We investigated multilayer plates made by exfoliation from a high-quality MoS$_2$ crystal and reveal that they represent a new object - van der Waals homostructure consisting of a bulk core and a few detached monolayers on its surface. This architecture comprising elements with different electron band structure leads to specific luminescence, when the broad emission band from the core is cut by the absorption peaks of strong exciton resonances in the surface monolayers. The exfoliated flakes exhibit strong optical anisotropy. We have observed a conversion of normally incident light polarization to $15\%$ in transmission geometry. This background effect is due to fluctuations of the c axis relative to the normal, whereas the pronounced resonance contribution is explained by the polarization anisotropy of excitons localized in the stripes of dissected surface monolayers.

Using a magneto-optical pump-probe technique with micrometer spatial resolution we show that magnetization precession can be launched in individual magnetic domains imprinted in a Co$_{40}$Fe$_{40}$B$_{20}$ (CoFeB) layer by elastic coupling to ferroelectric domains in a BaTiO$_{3}$ substrate. The dependence of the precession parameters on external magnetic field strength and orientation reveal that by laser-induced ultrafast partial quenching of the magnetoelastic coupling parameter of CoFeB by $\approx$27% along with 10% ultrafast demagnetization trigger the magnetization precession. The relation between the laser-induced reduction of the magnetoelastic coupling and the demagnetization is approximated by the $n(n+1)/2$-law with n$\approx$2. This correspondence confirms the thermal origin of the laser-induced anisotropy change. Based on the analysis and modeling of the excited precession we find signatures of laser-induced precessional switching, which occurs when the magnetic field is applied along the hard magnetization axis and its value is close to the effective magnetoelastic anisotropy field. The precession excitation process in an individual magnetoelastic domain is found to be unaffected by neighboring domains. This makes laser-induced changes of magnetoelastic anisotropy a promising tool for driving magnetization dynamics and switching in composite multiferroics with spatial selectivity.

We propose a modelling framework for the optimal selection of crypto assets. Crypto assets differ by two essential features: security (technological) and stability (governance). Investors make choices over crypto assets similarly to how they make choices by using a recommender app: the app presents each investor with a pair of crypto assets with certain security-stability characteristics to be compared. Each investor submits its preference for adopting one of the two assets to the app. The app, in turn, provides a recommendation on whether the proposed adoption is sensible given the assets' essential features, information about the adoption choices of all other investors, and expected future economic benefits of adoption. Investors continue making their adoption choices over all pairs of crypto assets until their expected future economic benefits can no longer be improved upon. This constitutes an optimal selection decision. We simulate optimal selection decisions considering the behaviour of different types of investors, driven by their attitudes towards assets' features. We find a variety of possible emergent outcomes for the investments in the crypto-ecosystem and the future adoption of the crypto assets.

We study the optical properties of MoS$_2$ nanotubes (NTs) with walls comprising dozens of monolayers. We reveal strong peaks in micro-photoluminescence ($μ$-PL) spectra when detecting the light polarized along the NT axis. We develop a model describing the optical properties of the nanotubes acting as optical resonators which support the quantization of whispering gallery modes inside the NT wall. The experimental observation of the resonances in $μ$-PL allows one to use them as a contactless method of the estimation of the wall width. Our findings open a way to use such NTs as polarization-sensitive components of nanophotonic devices.

In this paper we propose a method for ultrafine fractionation of nanodiamonds using the differential centrifugation in the fields up to 215000g. The developed protocols yield 4-6 nm fraction giving main contribution to the light scattering intensity. The desired 4-6 nm fraction can be obtained from various types of initial nanodiamonds: three types of detonation nanodiamonds differing in purifying methods, laser synthesis nanodiamonds and nanodiamonds made by milling. The characterization of the obtained hydrosols was conducted with Dynamic Light Scattering, Zeta potential measurements, powder XRD and TEM. According to powder XRD and TEM data ultracentrifugation also leads to a further fractionation of the primary diamond nanocrystallites in the hydrosols from 4 to 2 nm.

We study structural and chemical transformations induced by focused laser beam in GaAs nanowires with axial zinc-blende/wurtzite (ZB/WZ) heterostucture. The experiments are performed using a combination of transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Raman scattering, and photoluminescence spectroscopy. For the both components of heterostructure, laser irradiation under atmospheric air is found to produce a double surface layer which is composed of crystalline arsenic and of amorphous GaO$_{x}$. The latter compound is responsible for appearance of a peak at 1.76 eV in photoluminescence spectra of GaAs nanowires. Under increased laser power density, due to sample heating, evaporation of the surface crystalline arsenic and formation of $β$-Ga$_{2}$O$_{3}$ nanocrystals proceed on surface of the zinc-blende part of nanowire. The formed nanocrystals reveal a photoluminescence band in visible range of 1.7-2.4 eV. At the same power density for wurtzite part of the nanowire, total amorphization with formation of $β$-Ga$_{2}$O$_{3}$ nanocrystals occurs. Observed transformation of WZ-GaAs to $β$-Ga$_{2}$O$_{3}$ nanocrystals presents an available way for creation of axial and radial heterostuctures ZB-GaAs/$β$-Ga$_{2}$O$_{3}$ for optoelectronic and photonic applications.

We report on study of electrical and structural properties of InSb/GaAs(001) heteroepitaxial layers in [110] and [1-10] crystallographic directions. Strong anisotropy of electron transport parameters measured at a low magnetic field has been found, whereas the electrical transport through the InSb bulk layer studied by Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations is shown to be independent of the crystallographic directions. The low-field electrical anisotropy of the InSb films appears to be governed by two competitive anisotropic effects: influence of spontaneously formed In nanoclusters inhomogeneously distributed within the InSb layers and conductivity through the near-interface layer with high anisotropic density of extended defects.

New phenomenon is experimentally identified: ferroelectrical spin wave resonance (FE SWR), which consist in characteristic splitting of vibration (electronic-vibration) levels in optical spectra of interacting localized centers. Spectral positions of ESWR lines are determined in linear approach by quadratic dispersion law. It has been found that the values of resonance mode amplitudes are inversely proportional to mode numbers (by low excitation level). The prediction that Raman-ESWR and IR-ESWR are characterized by splitting constants with different values has been confirmed. Their ratio is approximately equal two (by the frequencies of zero modes reduced to the same value). It is independent argument for FE SWR identification.
