The solution for any n-particle toy model is presented as a contour integral, through Mellin trasnformation. The method of solving the contour integral is discussed. A nontrivial symmetry of this toy model, the invariance on initial position of the particles, is observed.

However, the average cross sectional volume cannot be maximized unless the cross sections pass through the centroid of the shape. Therefore, we focus on the shapes with stationary values of average cross section. A novel formula for average cross section in any dimension is presented. The equation of the stationary shape is derived and the general characteristics are discussed through algebraic solution, numerical analysis, and interpretation with graphical display. The special properties of the stationary shapes in 2, 3, and 5 dimension is examined.

Here, we correlate the nanoscale morphology and chemical composition of solid electrolyte interphases (SEI) with the electrochemical property of graphite-based composite electrodes. Using electrochemical strain microscopy (ESM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), changes of chemical composition and morphology (Li and F distribution) in SEI layers on the electrodes as a function of solid electrolyte contents are analyzed. As a result, we find a strong correlation between morphological variations on the electrode, Li and F distribution in SEI layer, and Coulomb efficiency. This correlation determines the optimum composition of the composite electrode surface that can maximize the physical and chemical uniformity of the solid electrolyte on the electrode, which is a key parameter to increase electrochemical performance in solid-state batteries.

In develo** photovoltaic devices with high efficiencies, quantitative determination of the carrier loss is crucial. In conventional solar-cell characterization techniques, however, photocurrent reduction originating from parasitic light absorption and carrier recombination within the light absorber cannot be assessed easily. Here, we develop a general analysis scheme in which the optical and recombination losses in submicron-textured solar cells are evaluated systematically from external quantum efficiency (EQE) spectra. In this method, the optical absorption in solar cells is first deduced by imposing the anti-reflection condition in the calculation of the absorptance spectrum, and the carrier extraction from the light absorber layer is then modeled by considering a carrier collection length from the absorber interface. Our analysis method is appropriate for a wide variety of photovoltaic devices, including kesterite solar cells [Cu2ZnSnSe4, Cu2ZnSnS4, and Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4], zincblende CdTe solar cells, and hybrid perovskite (CH3NH3PbI3) solar cells, and provides excellent fitting to numerous EQE spectra reported earlier. Based on the results obtained from our EQE analyses, we discuss the effects of parasitic absorption and carrier recombination in different types of solar cells.

We present stellar parameters of 19 K-type giants and their abundances of 13 chemical elements (Al, Ba, Ca, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, Sc, Si, Ti and V), selected from two moving groups, covering the metallicity range of -0.6 < [Fe/H] < 0.2, based on high resolution spectra. Most elemental abundances show similar trends with previous studies except for Al, Na and Ba, which are affected by evolution seriously. The abundance ratios of [Na/Mg] increase smoothly with higher [Mg/H] and [Al/Mg] decrease slightly with increasing [Mg/H]. [Mg/Ba] show distinction between these two moving groups which is mainly induced by chemical evolution and partly by kinematic effects. The inhomogeneous metallicity of each star from the moving groups demonstrate that these stars have different chemical origins before they were kinematically aggregated and favor the dynamical resonant theory.

Aims: Our primary goal is to search for planets around intermediate mass stars. We are also interested in studying the nature of radial velocity (RV) variations of K giant stars.
Methods: We selected about 55 early K giant (K0 - K4) stars brighter than fifth magnitude that were observed using BOES, a high resolution spectrograph attached to the 1.8 m telescope at BOAO (Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory). BOES is equipped with $I_2$ absorption cell for high precision RV measurements.
Results: We detected a periodic radial velocity variations in the K0 III star \gam1leo with a period of P = 429 days. An orbital fit of the observed RVs yields a period of P = 429 days, a semi-amplitude of K = 208 \mps, and an eccentricity of e = 0.14. To investigate the nature of the RV variations, we analyzed the photometric, CaII $λ$ 8662 equivalent width, and line-bisector variations of \gam1leo. We conclude that the detected RV variations can be best explained by a planetary companion with an estimated mass of m $\sin i = 8.78 M_{Jupiter}$ and a semi-major axis of $a = 1.19$ AU, assuming a stellar mass of 1.23 \Msun.

To maximize the number of planet detections, current microlensing follow-up observations are focusing on high-magnification events which have a higher chance of being perturbed by central caustics. In this paper, we investigate the properties of central caustics and the perturbations induced by them. We derive analytic expressions of the location, size, and shape of the central caustic as a function of the star-planet separation, $s$, and the planet/star mass ratio, $q$, under the planetary perturbative approximation and compare the results with those based on numerical computations. While it has been known that the size of the planetary caustic is \propto \sqrt{q}, we find from this work that the dependence of the size of the central caustic on $q$ is linear, i.e., \propto q, implying that the central caustic shrinks much more rapidly with the decrease of $q$ compared to the planetary caustic. The central-caustic size depends also on the star-planet separation. If the size of the caustic is defined as the separation between the two cusps on the star-planet axis (horizontal width), we find that the dependence of the central-caustic size on the separation is \propto (s+1/s). While the size of the central caustic depends both on $s$ and q, its shape defined as the vertical/horizontal width ratio, R_c, is solely dependent on the planetary separation and we derive an analytic relation between R_c and s. Due to the smaller size of the central caustic combined with much more rapid decrease of its size with the decrease of q, the effect of finite source size on the perturbation induced by the central caustic is much more severe than the effect on the perturbation induced by the planetary caustic. Abridged.
