We have performed Compton scattering measurements on as-grown and reduced single crystals of the electron-doped T'-cuprate Pr1.3-xLa0.7CexCuO4 (x = 0.10) to investigate the effect of reduction annealing on the electronic state. The obtained results have revealed that the numbers of electrons in the O2p orbital in the Zhang-Rice singlet band, the Cu3dx2-y2 orbital, and the Cu3d3z2-r2 orbital are increased by reduction annealing. The increase in the number of Cu3d3z2-r2 electrons suggests the existence of Cu3d3z2-r2 holes in the as-grown single crystal. This is spectroscopic evidence of local hole do** into the Cu3d3z2-r2 orbital around the excess oxygen, as suggested by transport measurements [T. Adachi et al., J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 82, 063713 (2013)].

The on-site Coulomb potential, U, and the covalent state of electronic orbitals play key roles for the Cooper pair symmetry and exotic electromagnetic properties of high-Tc superconducting cuprates. In this paper, we demonstrate a way to determine the value of U and present the whole picture of the covalent state of Cu spins in the mother system of the La-based high-Tc superconducting cuprate, La2CuO4, by combining the muon spin rotation (μSR) and the density functional theory (DFT) calculation. We reveal local deformations of the CuO6 octahedron followed by changes in Cu-spin distributions caused by the injected muon. Adjusting the DFT and muSR results, U and the minimum charge-transfer energy between the upper Hubbard band and the O 2p band were optimized to be 4.87(4) and 1.24(1) eV, respectively.

We have measured the temperature dependences of the thermal conductivity of Ba$_2$Cu$_{3-x}M_x$O$_4$Cl$_2$ ($M$ = Pd, Ni, Co; $x$ = 0, 0.03) single crystals including two-dimensional (2D) Cu$_3$O$_4$ planes consisting of a strong 2D spin network of CuA$^{2+}$ spins and a weak 2D spin network of CuB$^{2+}$ spins. It has been found that the thermal conductivity due to spins, $κ_{\mathrm{spin}}$, exists in the thermal conductivity parallel to the Cu$_3$O$_4$ plane owing to the strong 2D spin network of CuA$^{2+}$ spins and exhibits a broad peak around room temperature. The maximum value of $κ_{\mathrm{spin}}$ is ~7 W/Km and comparable with that in Nd$_2$CuO$_4$ with almost the same 2D spin network of Cu$^{2+}$ spins. The $κ_{\mathrm{spin}}$ has been found to be suppressed by 1% impurities on account the decrease in the mean free path of magnetic excitations, suggesting that $κ_{\mathrm{spin}}$ is expected to be enhanced in 2D quantum spin systems such as Ba$_2$Cu$_3$O$_4$Cl$_2$ by reducing the amount of impurities in a single crystal. Moreover, it has concluded that the frustration between CuA$^{2+}$ and CuB$^{2+}$ spins little affects the existence of $κ_{\mathrm{spin}}$.

The ruthenium halide $α$-RuCl$_{3}$ is a promising candidate for a Kitaev spin liquid. However, the microscopic model describing $α$-RuCl$_{3}$ is still debated partly because of a lack of analogue materials for $α$-RuCl$_{3}$, which prevents tracking of electronic properties as functions of controlled interaction parameters. Here, we report a successful synthesis of RuBr$_{3}$. The material RuBr$_{3}$~possesses BiI$_3$-type structure (space group: $R\overline{3}$) where Ru$^{3+}$ form an ideal honeycomb lattice. Although RuBr$_{3}$ has a negative Weiss temperature, it undergoes a zigzag antiferromagnetic transition at $T_\mathrm{N}=34$ K, as does $α$-RuCl$_{3}$. Our analyses indicate that the Kitaev and non-Kitaev interactions can be modified in ruthenium trihalides by changing the ligand sites, which provides a new platform for exploring Kitaev spin liquids.

We investigated Fe-substitution effects on ferromagnetic fluctuations in the superconducting overdoped and non-superconducting heavily overdoped regimes of the Bi-2201 cuprates by the magnetization and electrical-resistivity measurements. It was found that the spin-glass state was induced at low temperatures by the Fe substitution. The Curie constant and the effective Bohr magneton, estimated from the magnetic susceptibility, as well as the dimensionality of the ferromagnetic fluctuations from the resistivity, suggest the enhancement of the ferromagnetic fluctuations owing to the Fe substitution. A ferromagnetic spin-cluster model is proposed in the heavily overdoped regime of Bi-2201, while an antiferromagnetic spin-cluster model has been proposed in the overdoped regime of Bi-2201 [Hiraka et al., Phys. Abstract:
New superconductors, Li$_x$(C$_n$H$_{2n+3}$N)$_y$Fe$_{1-z}$Se ($n$ = 6, 8, 18), have been synthesized via the co-intercalation of linear monoamines together with Li into FeSe. The distance between neighboring Fe layers expands up to 55.7 Å for n = 18, which is much larger than the previous record of 19 Å in the FeSe-based intercalation superconductors. Tc remains saturated at $\sim$42 K.

We present a combined soft x-ray and high-resolution vacuum-ultraviolet angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy study of the electron-overdoped cuprate Pr$_{1.3-x}$La$_{0.7}$Ce$_{x}$CuO$_4$ (PLCCO). Demonstration of its highly two-dimensional band structure enabled precise determination of the in-plane self-energy dominated by electron-electron scattering. Through analysis of this self-energy and the Fermi-liquid cut-off energy scale, we find -- in contrast to hole-doped cuprates -- a momentum isotropic and comparatively weak electron correlation in PLCCO. Yet, the self-energies extracted from multiple oxide systems combine to demonstrate a logarithmic divergent relation between the quasiparticle scattering rate and mass. This constitutes a spectroscopic version of the Kadowaki-Woods relation with an important merit -- the demonstration of Fermi liquid quasiparticle lifetime and mass being set by a single energy scale.

Recently, bulk single crystals of Pr1.3-xLa0.7CexCuO4-δ (PLCCO) prepared by the protect annealing method have been studied extensively and revealed many intriguing properties that were different from those obtained from samples annealed by the conventional methods. Here, we report on a systematic angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy study of PLCCO single crystals after protect annealing. The results indicate that the actual electron concentration (nFS ) estimated from the Fermi-surface area is significantly larger than the Ce concentration x and the new nFS-based SC dome of PLCCO is more extended towards the overdoped side than the x-based SC dome derived for samples prepared using the conventional annealing method.

We performed Cu {\it K}-edge X-ray absorption fine structure measurements on T'-type La$_{1.8}$Eu$_{0.2}$CuO$_4$ (LECO) and Nd$_2$CuO$_4$ (NCO) to investigate the variation in the electronic state associated with the emergence of superconductivity due to annealing. The X-ray absorption near-edge structure spectra of as-sintered (AS) LECO are quite similar to those of AS NCO, indicating that the ground state of AS T'-type LECO is a Mott insulator. We found a significant variation of the electronic state at the Cu sites in LECO due to annealing. The electron density after annealing ($n_{\rm AN}$) was evaluated for both superconducting LECO and non-superconducting NCO and found to be 0.40 and 0.05 electrons per Cu, respectively. In LECO but not in NCO, extended X-ray absorption fine structure analysis revealed a softening in the strength of the Cu-O bond in the CuO$_2$ plane due to annealing, which is consistent with the screening effect on phonons in the metallic state. Since the amounts of oxygen loss due to annealing ($δ$) for LECO and NCO are comparable with each other, these results suggest distinct electron-do** processes in the two compounds. That electron-do** in NCO approximately follows the relation $n_{\rm AN}=2δ$ can be understood if electrons are doped through oxygen deficiency, but the anneal-induced metallic nature and large $n_{\rm AN}$ of LECO suggest a variation of the electronic band structure causes self-do** of carriers. The origin of the difference in do** processes due to annealing is discussed in connection with the size of the charge transfer gap.

The dome-like dependence of Tc on the doped carrier concentration in the T'-type (La,Eu)-based cuprates is explained in terms of the pairing mediated by spin fluctuations based on the d-p model calculation [K. It has been found that the thermal conductivity is nearly isotropic and very large in zero field and that the thermal conductivity due to phonons is dominant in CuB2O4. The temperature and field dependences of kc and k110 have markedly changed at phase boundaries in the magnetic phase diagram, which has been understood to be due to the change of the mean free path of phonons caused by the change of the phonon-spin scattering rate at the phase boundaries. It has been concluded that thermal conductivity measurements are very effective for detecting magnetic phase boundaries.

Using light polarization analysis, the $e_g$ and $t_{2g}$ bands are identified across these materials. A clear correlation between the $d_{3z^2-r^2}$ band energy and the apical oxygen distance $d_\mathrm{A}$ is demonstrated. Moreover, the compound dependence of the $d_{x^2-y^2}$ band bottom and the $t_{2g}$ band top is revealed. Direct comparison to density functional theory (DFT) calculations employing hybrid exchange-correlation functionals demonstrates excellent agreement. We thus conclude that the DFT methodology can be used to describe the global band structure of overdoped single layer cuprates on both the hole and electron doped side.

We demonstrate the presence of ferromagnetic (FM) fluctuations in the superconducting and non-superconducting heavily overdoped regimes of high-temperature superconducting copper oxides, using (Bi,Pb)_2_Sr_2_CuO_6+delta_ (Bi-2201) single crystals. Magnetization curves exhibit a tendency to be saturated in high magnetic fields at low temperatures in the heavily overdoped crystals, which is probably a precursor phenomenon of a FM transition at a lower temperature. Muon spin relaxation detects the enhancement of spin fluctuations at high temperatures below 200 K. Correspondingly, the ab-plane resistivity follows a 4/3 power law in a wide temperature range, which is characteristic of metals with two-dimensional FM fluctuations due to itinerant electrons. As the Wilson ratio evidences the enhancement of spin fluctuations with hole do** in the heavily overdoped regime, it is concluded that two-dimensional FM fluctuations reside in the heavily overdoped Bi-2201 cuprates, which is probably related to the decrease in the superconducting transition temperature in the heavily overdoped cuprates.

We have succeeded in synthesizing new intercalation superconductors Lix(C2H8N2)yMoSe2 and Lix(C6H16N2)yMoSe2 with Tc = 4.2 and 3.8-6.0 K, respectively, via the co-intercalation of lithium and ethylenediamine or hexamethylenediamine into semiconducting 2H-MoSe2. It has been found that the Tc values are related not to the interlayer spacing between MoSe2 layers so much but to the electronic density of states (EDOS) at the Fermi level. Moreover, only Li-intercalated LixMoSe2 with a small interlayer spacing has been found to be non-superconducting. Accordingly, it has been concluded that not only a sufficient amount of EDOS at the Fermi level due to the charge transfer from intercalated Li to MoSe2 layers but also the enhancement of the two-dimensionality of the crystal structure and/or electronic structure due to the expansion of the interlayer spacing between MoSe2 layers is necessary for the appearance of superconductivity in MoSe2-based intercalation superconductors. The pairing mechanism and the analogy to the superconductivity in the electric double-layer transistors of 2H-MoX2 (X = S, Se, Te) are discussed.

We report the first observation of superconductivity in heterostructure consisting of an insulating ferroelectric film (Ba$_{0.8}$Sr$_{0.2}$TiO$_3$) grown on an insulating parent compound of La$_2$CuO$_4$ with [001] orientation. The heterostructure was prepared by magnetron sputtering on a non-atomically-flat surface with inhomogeneities of the order of 1-2 nm. The measured superconducting transition temperature T$_c$ is about 30K. We have shown that superconductivity is confined near the interface region. Application of a weak magnetic field perpendicular to the interface leads to the appearance of the finite resistance. That confirms the quasi-two-dimensional nature of the superconductive state. The proposed concept promises ferroelectrically controlled interface superconductivity which offers the possibility of novel design of electronic devices.

We determined the magnetic structure of CuCr$_2$O$_4$ using neutron diffraction and irreducible representation analysis. The measurements identified a new phase between 155 K and 125 K as nearly collinear magnetic ordering in the Cr pyrochlore lattice. Below 125 K, a Cu-Cr ferrimagnetic component develops the noncollinear order. Along with the simultaneously obtained O positions and the quantum effect of spin-orbit coupling, the magnetic structure is understood to involve spin-orbit ordering, accompanied by an appreciably deformed orbital of presumably spin-only Cu and Cr.

In this review article, we show our recent results relating to the undoped (Ce-free) superconductivity in the electron-doped high-Tc cuprates with the so-called T' structure. For an introduction, we briefly mention the characteristics of the electron-doped T'-cuprates, including the reduction annealing, conventional phase diagram and undoped superconductivity. Then, our transport and magnetic results and results relating to the superconducting pairing symmetry of the undoped and underdoped T'-cuprates are shown. Collaborating spectroscopic and nuclear magnetic resonance results are also shown briefly. It has been found that, through the reduction annealing, a strongly localized state of carriers accompanied by an antiferromagnetic pseudogap in the as-grown samples changes to a metallic and superconducting state with a short-range magnetic order in the reduced superconducting samples. The formation of the short-range magnetic order due to a very small amount of excess oxygen in the reduced superconducting samples suggests that the T'-cuprates exhibiting the undoped superconductivity in the parent compounds are regarded as strongly correlated electron systems, as well as the hole-doped high-Tc cuprates. We show our proposed electronic structure model to understand the undoped superconductivity. Finally, unsolved future issues of the T'-cuprates are discussed.

Spin liquid is a state of electron spins in which quantum fluctuation breaks magnetic ordering while maintaining spin correlation. It has been a central topic in magnetism because of its relevance to high-Tc superconductivity and topological states. However, utilizing spin liquid has been quite difficult. Typical spin liquid states are realized in one-dimensional spin systems, called quantum spin chains. Here, we show that a spin liquid in a spin-1/2 quantum chain generates and carries spin current via its long-range spin fluctuation. This is demonstrated by observing an anisotropic negative spin Seebeck effect along the spin chains in Sr2CuO3. The results show that spin current can flow even in an atomic channel owing the spin liquid state, which can be used for atomic spin-current wiring.

These $d$ values are the largest among those of the FeSe-based intercalation compounds and are understood to be due to the intercalation of two molecules of 2-phenethylamine in series perpendicular to the FeSe layers. It appears that the relationship between $T_\mathrm{c}$ and $d$ in the FeSe-based intercalation superconductors is not domic but $T_\mathrm{c}$ is saturated at ~ 45 K, which is comparable to the $T_\mathrm{c}$ values of single-layer FeSe films, for $d$ $\geq$ 9 Å.

Both Li and HMDA have been co-intercalated stably up to $x$ = 2 roughly in the molar ratio of $x : y = 2 : 1$. In the case of $T_i$ = 45$^\circ$C, it has been found that both Li and HMDA are co-intercalated locally at the edge of FeSe crystals, indicating that both Li and HMDA are hard to diffuse into the inside of FeSe crystals at 45$^\circ$C. In the case of $T_i$ = 100$^\circ$C, on the other hand, it has been found that both Li and HMDA diffuse into the inside of FeSe crystals, so that $T_c$ tends to increase with increasing $x$ from ~30 K at $x$ = 1 up to 38 K at $x$ = 2 owing to the increase of electron carriers doped from Li into the FeSe layers.

In order to investigate the spin state of azurite, Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2, we have measured the thermal conductivity along the c-axis, $κ$c, perpendicular to the spin diamond-chains. It has been found that the temperature dependence of $κ$c shows a broad peak at ~ 100 K, which is explained as being due to the strong phonon-scattering by the strong spin-fluctuation owing to the spin frustration at low temperatures below ~ 100 K. Furthermore, it has been found that the temperature dependence of $κ$c shows another peak at low temperatures below 20 K and that $κ$c is suppressed by the application of magnetic field along the c-axis at low temperatures below ~ 35 K. In high magnetic fields above ~ 8 T at low temperatures below ~ 6 K, it has been found that $κ$c increases with increasing field. The present results have indicated that both spin-singlet dimers with a spin gap of ~ 35 K and antiferromagnetically correlated spin-chains with the antiferromagnetic exchange interaction of ~ 5.4 K are formed at low temperatures, which is consistent with the recent conclusion by Jeschke et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 106, 217201 (2011)] that the ground state of spins in azurite in zero field is a spin-fluid one. In addition, a new quantum critical line in magnetic fields at temperatures above 3 K has been proposed to exist.

We have measured the thermal conductivity in the ab-plane, $κ$ab, and along the c-axis, $κ$c, of single crystals of the S = 1/2 triangular-lattice antiferromagnet Ba3CoSb2O9 in zero field and magnetic fields. In zero field, it has been found that both $κ$ab and $κ$c show a similar broad peak around 40 K, suggesting that the thermal conductivity due to phonons is dominant in this compound and that the mean free path of phonons is suppressed so much by strong magnetic-fluctuations due to the magnetic frustration. It has also been found that both $κ$ab and $κ$c show a kink at the antiferromagnetic transition temperature TN. In magnetic fields parallel to the ab-plane up to 14 T, magnetic-field dependences of both $κ$ab and $κ$c at temperatures below and above TN have been found to be understood taking into account the phonon-magnon scattering in the so-called 120$°$ structure phase and the up-up-down (UUD) phase, while the minima of $κ$ab and $κ$c observed in the middle of the UUD phase have not been understood. This suggests the occurrence of some change of the magnetic state in the middle of the UUD phase.

A contribution of the thermal conductivity due to spins has been observed in the thermal conductivity along the spin chains. The thermal conductivity due to phonons, $κ_{\rm phonon}$, has been found to decrease by the application of a magnetic field, which has been explained as being due to the reduction in the spin gap originating from the spin-singlet dimers. Moreover, it has been found that $κ_{\rm phonon}$ increases with increasing field in high fields above ~7 T at low temperatures. This suggests the existence of a novel field-induced spin state and is discussed in terms of the possible spin-chirality ordering in a frustrated Mott insulator.

The c-axis lengths of Ax(C2H8N2)yFe2-zSe2 (A = Li, Na) are 20.74(7) Å and 21.9(1) Å, respectively, and are about 50 % larger than that of KxFe2Se2, indicating that not only alkaline metal but also ethylenediamine is intercalated between the Se-Se layers of FeSe. It seems that the high-Tc of Ax(C2H8N2)yFe2-zSe2 (A = Li, Na) is caused by the possible two-dimensional electronic structure due to the large c-axis length. Through the post-annealing in an evacuated glass tube, it has been found that Tc decreases with increasing post-annealing temperature and that deintercalation of EDA from the as-intercalated sample takes place at low temperatures below 250 °C.

In order to investigate details of the superconducting (SC) gap in the iron-chalcogenide superconductors, the specific heat, C, of FeSe_1-x_Te_x_ with x=0.6-1 has been measured in magnetic fields. Using the two-gap model, it has been found that the smaller SC gap is significantly depressed by the application of magnetic field, resulting in the increase of the slope of the C/T vs T^2^ plot at low temperatures. From the specific-heat measurements at very low temperatures down to 0.4 K, it has been found that the enhancement of the residual electronic-specific-heat-coefficient in the ground state, gamma_0_, by the application of magnetic field is much smaller than that expected for superconductors with the typical s-wave or d-wave SC paring symmetry, which is in sharp contrast to the significant enhancement of gamma_0 observed in the iron-pnictide superconductors. These results are discussed in relation to the multi-band effect in the iron-based superconductors.

Thermal conductivity measurements have been carried out for single crystals of the onedimensional (1D) antiferromagnetic (AF) Ising-like spin system ACoX3 (A = Rb, Cs; X = Cl, Br). A shoulder originating from the thermal conductivity due to spin excitations, \k{appa}?spin, has been observed around 60 K in the temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity along the c-axis parallel to spin chains for every ACoX3. To our knowledge, this is the first observation of ?\k{appa}spin in 1D AF Ising-like spin systems. It has been found that the magnitude of ?\k{appa}spin in ACoX3 is a little smaller than those in 1D AF Heisenberg spin systems. The reason is discussed in terms of the Heisenberg-like character in ACoX3.

The maximum value of the thermal conductivity due to spinons is ~14 W/Km along the [10-1] direction, supporting the empirical law that the magnitude of the thermal conductivity due to spinons is roughly proportional to the antiferromagnetic interaction between the nearest neighboring spins.

The asymmetry time spectra taken at RIKEN-RAL pulsed muon facility show a drastic change at $T_{\rm N}$. At low temperatures the weakly beating oscillation caused by the static internal magnetic fields in the antiferromagnetic phase was observed in Cu$_{3}$Mo$_{2}$O$_{9}$ and the lightly ($0.5\%$) Zn-doped sample. From the fitting of the oscillating term, we obtain the order parameter in these samples: ferromagnetic moment in two sublattices of antiferromagnet. In the heavily ($5.0\%$) Zn-doped sample, the muon-spin oscillation is rapidly damped. The frequency-domain spectrum of this sample suggests a formation of magnetic superstructure.

Thermal conductivity measurements in magnetic fields have been carried out for FeSe$_{0.3}$Te$_{0.7}$ single crystals as-grown and annealed at 400 {\degree}C for 100 h in vacuum ($\sim$ 10$^{-4}$ Pa). It has been found that the thermal conductivity in the {\it ab}-plane, {\kab}, of the annealed crystal shows an enhancement at low temperatures just below the superconducting transition temperature, {\tc}, owing to the thermal conductivity due to quasiparticles, while {\kab} of the as-grown crystal does not. This suggests that FeSe$_{1-x}$Te$_{x}$ is a strongly correlated electron system. It has also been found that both the degree of the enhancement of {\kab} just below {\tc} and the behavior of the suppression of {\kab} by the application of magnetic field for the annealed crystal depend on the thickness of the crystal. These results indicate that bulk superconductivity is absent in the as-grown crystal, appears only in the surface area in the annealed-thick crystal and appears in the almost whole region in the annealed-thin crystal. It has been concluded that the excess Fe included in the as-grown crystal is removed from the surface through the vacuum-annealing.

Small, large and very small suppression of Tc have been observed through the Co, Ni and Zn substitution, respectively. The magnitude of the suppression rate is hardly explained in terms of the pair-breaking effect due to potential scattering calculated based on the Abrikosov-Gor'kov theory, even if errors in the estimation of the carrier concentration, effective mass and ρ_0 were taken into account. Accordingly, these results suggest that the superconducting symmetry is the s++-wave in FeSe1-xTex.

The y dependence of the electronic specific heat coefficient gamma can basically be understood by using the rigid-band picture, where Ni ions provide 2 electrons to the host conduction bands and behave as nonmagnetic impurities. The superconducting transition temperature Tc of LaFe1-yNiyAsO0.89F0.11 becomes zero, as the carrier density p (=2y+0.11) doped to LaFeAsO reaches its critical value p_c_ ~0.2. This p_c_ value of ~0.2 is commonly observed for LaFe1-yCoyAsO0.89F0.11 and LaFeAsO0.89-xF0.11+x systems, in which the relations p = x+0.11 and p = y+0.11 hold, respectively. As we pointed out previously, the critical value corresponds to the disappearance of the hole-Fermi surface. These results indicate that the carrier number solely determines the Tc value. We have not observed appreciable effects of pair breaking, which originates from the nonmagnetic impurity scattering of conduction electrons and strongly suppresses T_c_ values of systems with sign-reversing of the order parameter over the Fermi surface(s). On the basis of the results, the so-called s_+-_ symmetry of the order parameter with the sign-reversing is excluded.

The value of kappa_c around 50K, where large contribution of the thermal conductivity due to spinons, kappa_spinon, is observed, is markedly enhanced by both the increase of the purity of raw materials and the O_2-annealing. Therefore, the increase of kappa_c implies that kappa_spinon is enhanced due to the decrease of spin defects caused by impurities in raw materials and by oxygen defects. The mean free path of spinons is as large as about 24000 angstrom at low temperatures in the O_2-annealed single-crystal grown from raw materials with 4N purity.

A systematic muon-spin-relaxation study in Bi-2201 high-Tc cuprates has revealed for the first time that the Cu-spin correlation (CSC) is developed at low temperatures below 2 K in a wide range of hole concentration where superconductivity appears. The CSC tends to become weak gradually with increasing hole-concentration. Moreover, CSC has been enhanced through the 3% substitution of Zn for Cu. These results are quite similar to those observed in La-214 high-Tc cuprates. Accordingly, it has been suggested that the intimate relation between the so-called spin-charge stripe correlations and superconductivity is a universal feature in hole-doped high-Tc cuprates. Furthermore, apparent development of CSC, which is suppressed through the Zn substitution oppositely, has been observed in non-superconducting heavily overdoped samples, being argued in the context of a recently proposed ferromagnetic state in heavily overdoped cuprates.

With increasing field at 3 K, it has been found that both $kappa_{\|[101]}$ and $kappa_{\perp[101]}$ are suppressed in the gapped normal state in low fields. In the BEC state of field-induced triplons in high fields, on the other hand, $kappa_{\|[101]}$ is enhanced with increasing field, while $kappa_{\perp[101]}$ is suppressed. That is, the thermal conductivity along the direction, where the magnetic interaction is strong, is markedly enhanced in the BEC state. Accordingly, our results suggest that the enhancement of $kappa_{\|[101]}$ in the BEC state is caused by the enhancement of the thermal conductivity due to triplons on the basis of the two-fluid model, as in the case of the superfluid state of liquid 4He.

In order to investigate the electronic state in the normal state of high-Tc cuprates in a wide range of temperature and hole-concentration, specific-heat, electrical-resistivity, magnetization and muon-spin-relaxation (muSR) measurements have been performed in non-superconducting Ni-substituted La2-xSrxCu1-yNiyO4 where the superconductivity is suppressed through the partial substitution of Ni for Cu without disturbing the Cu-spin correlation in the CuO2 plane so much. In the underdoped regime, it has been found that there exist both weakly localized holes around Ni and itinerant holes at high temperatures. With decreasing temperature, all holes tend to be localized, followed by the occurrence of variable-range hop** conduction at low temperatures. Finally, in the ground state, it has been found that each Ni2+ ion traps a hole strongly and that a magnetically ordered state appears. In the overdoped regime, on the other hand, it has been found that a Kondo-like state is formed around each Ni2+ spin at low temperatures. In conclusion, the ground state of non-superconducting La2-xSrxCu1-yNiyO4 changes upon hole do** from a magnetically ordered state with the strong hole-trap** by Ni2+ to a metallic state with Kondo-like behavior due to Ni2+ spins, and the quantum phase transition is crossover-like due to the phase separation into short-range magnetically ordered and metallic regions.

We carried out zero-field muon-spin-rotation (ZF-$μ$SR) measurements in hydrostatic pressures in impurity-doped quantum spin gap system Tl(Cu$_{0.985}$Mg$_{0.015}$)Cl$_3$ to investigate microscopic magnetic properties of the pressure-induced phase. The spontaneous muon spin precession, which indicates the existence of a long-range coherent order, is observed in pressures. With decreasing temperature in 3.1 kbar, the internal static magnetic field at the muon sites {\it H}$_{\rm int}$ tends to saturate to 280 Oe around 4 K, however, decreases to 240 Oe at 2.3 K. These results suggest a rearrangement of ordered spins, and we speculate that the oblique antiferromagnetic phase, which is observed in the pressure of 14 kbar on the pure TlCuCl$_3$, appears in the Mg-doped system in lower pressures.
