We propose a novel signature with four-photon final states to probe CP-violating (CPV) extended Higgs sectors via $f \bar{f} \to Z^* \to H_1H_2 \to 4 γ$ processes with $H_{1,2}$ being additional neutral Higgs bosons. We focus on the nearly Higgs alignment scenario, in which the discovered Higgs boson almost corresponds to a neutral scalar state belonging to the isospin doublet field with the vacuum expectation value $v \simeq 246$ GeV. We show that the branching ratios of $H_{1,2} \to γγ$ can simultaneously be sizable when CPV phases in the Higgs potential are of order one due to the enhancement of charged-Higgs boson loops. Such branching ratios can be especially significant when the fermiophobic scenario is taken into account. As a simple example, we consider the general two Higgs doublet model, and demonstrate that the cross section for the four-photon process can be 0.1 fb at LHC with the masses of $H_{1,2}$ to be a few 100 GeV in the Higgs alignment limit under the constraints from electric dipole moments (EDMs) and LHC Run-II data. We also illustrate that the searches for EDMs and di-photon resonances at high-luminosity LHC play complementary roles to explore CPV extended Higgs sectors.

The isospin doublet scalar field with hypercharge 3/2 is introduced in some new physics models such as tiny neutrino masses. Detecting the doubly charged scalar bosons from the doublet field can be a good probe of such models. However, their collider phenomenology has not been examined sufficiently. We investigate collider signatures of the doubly and singly charged scalar bosons at the LHC for the high-luminosity upgraded option (HL-LHC) by looking at transverse mass distributions etc. With the appropriate kinematical cuts we demonstrate the background reduction in the minimal model in the following two cases depending on the mass of the scalar bosons. (1) The main decay mode of the singly charged scalar bosons is the tau lepton and missing (as well as charm and strange quarks). (2) That is into a top bottom pair. In the both cases, we assume that the doubly charged scalar boson is heavier than the singly charged ones. We conclude that the scalar doublet field with $Y = 3/2$ is expected to be detectable at the HL-LHC unless the mass is too large.

Lifshitz transition, a change in Fermi surface topology, is likely to greatly influence exotic correlated phenomena in solids, such as high-temperature superconductivity and complex magnetism. However, since the observation of Fermi surfaces is generally difficult in the strongly correlated systems, a direct link between the Lifshitz transition and quantum phenomena has been elusive so far. Here, we report a marked impact of the pressure-induced Lifshitz transition on thermoelectric performance for SnSe, a promising thermoelectric material without strong electron correlation. By applying pressure up to 1.6 GPa, we have observed a large enhancement of thermoelectric power factor by more than 100% over a wide temperature range (10-300 K). Furthermore, the high carrier mobility enables the detection of quantum oscillations of resistivity, revealing the emergence of new Fermi pockets at ~0.86 GPa. The observed thermoelectric properties linked to the multi-valley band structure are quantitatively reproduced by first-principles calculations, providing novel insight into designing the SnSe-related materials for potential valleytronic as well as thermoelectric applications.

The magnetic field dependence of electronic transport, magnetic, and elastic properties in single crystals of PbTe were investigated in high magnetic fields up to 55 T. The magnetoresistance, magnetization, ultrasonic attenuation, and sound velocity showed clear quantum oscillations with pronounced Zeeman-splitting, which causes a large second harmonic in the frequency spectra. The ratio of the Zeeman to the cyclotron energy, which is regarded as an index of `Diracness' [H. Hayasaka and Y. Fuseya, J. Phys.: Condens. Matter \textbf{28,} 31LT01 (2016).], was determined to be 0.52 and 0.57 in samples with different carrier densities. We also pointed out that the effect of Zeeman-splitting seriously affects the Landau-level fan diagram analysis, which is widely used to extract the nontrivial Berry's phase from the quantum oscillations.

We have systematically investigated the variation of the exchange parameters and the ground state in the $S = 1/2$ kagome-lattice antiferromagnet (Rb$_{1-x}$Cs$_{x}$)$_2$Cu$_3$SnF$_{12}$, via magnetic measurements using single crystals. One of the parent compounds, Rb$_2$Cu$_3$SnF$_{12}$, which has a distorted kagome lattice accompanied by four sorts of nearest-neighbor exchange interaction, has a disordered ground state described by a pinwheel valence-bond-solid state. The other parent compound, Cs$_2$Cu$_3$SnF$_{12}$, which has a uniform kagome lattice at room temperature, has an ordered ground state with the $q$ = 0 spin structure. The analysis of magnetic susceptibilities shows that with increasing cesium concentration $x$, the exchange parameters increase with the tendency to be uniform. It was found that the ground state is disordered for $x$ < 0.53 and ordered for $x$ > 0.53. The pseudogap observed for $x$ < 0.53 and the Néel temperature for $x$ > 0.53 approach zero at $x_{\rm c}$ $\simeq$ 0.53. This is indicative of the occurrence of a quantum phase transition at $x_{\rm c}$.

Magnetic excitations in the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ distorted kagome lattice antiferromagnet Cs$_2$Cu$_3$SnF$_{12}$, which has an ordered ground state owing to the strong Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction, were studied using inelastic neutron scattering. Although the spin-wave dispersion can be qualitatively understood in terms of linear spin-wave theory (LSWT), the excitation energies are renormalized by a factor of approximately 0.6 from those calculated by LSWT, almost irrespective of the momentum transfer. This inadequacy of LSWT, which is attributed to quantum fluctuations, provides evidence of negative quantum renormalization in the spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ kagome lattice antiferromagnet.

We report the detailed electronic structure of a hole-doped delafossite oxide CuCr_{1-x}Mg_{x}O_{2} (0 <= x <= 0.03) studied by photoemission spectroscopy (PES), soft x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), and band-structure calculations within the local-density approximation +U (LDA+U) scheme. Cr/Cu 3p-3d resonant PES reveals that the near-Fermi-level leading structure has primarily the Cr 3d character with a minor contribution from the Cu 3d through Cu 3d-O 2p-Cr 3d hybridization, having good agreement with the band-structure calculations. This indicates that a doped hole will have primarily the Cr 3d character. Cr 2p PES and L-edge XAS spectra exhibit typical Cr^{3+} features for all x, while the Cu L-edge XAS spectra exhibited a systematic change with x. This indicates now that the Cu valence is monovalent at x=0 and the doped hole should have Cu 3d character. Nevertheless, we surprisingly observed two types of charge-transfer satellites that should be attributed to Cu^{+} (3d^{10}) and Cu^{2+} (3d^{9}) like initial states in Cu 2p-3d resonant PES spectrum for at x=0, while Cu 2p PES spectra with no doubt shows the Cu^{+} character even for the lightly doped samples. We propose that these contradictory results can be understood by introducing no only the Cu 4s state, but also finite Cu 3d,4s-Cr 3d charge transfer via O 2p states in the ground-state electronic configuration.

We report $^{123}$Sb nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements of the filled skutterudite heavy-fermion superconductor PrOs$_4$Sb$_{12}$ under high pressure. The temperature dependence of NQR frequency and the spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$ indicate that the crystal-electric-field splitting $Δ_{\rm CEF}$ between the ground state $Γ_1$ singlet and the first excited state $Γ_4^{(2)}$ triplet decreases with increasing pressure. Ac-susceptibility measurements indicate that the superconducting transition temperature ($T_{\rm c}$) also decreases with increasing pressure. However, above $P$ $\sim$ 2 GPa, both $Δ_{\rm CEF}$ and $T_{\rm c}$ do not depend on external pressure up to $P$ = 3.82 GPa. These pressure dependences of $Δ_{\rm CEF}$ and $T_{\rm c}$ suggest an intimate relationship between quadrupole excitations associated with the $Γ_4^{(2)}$ level and unconventional superconductivity in PrOs$_4$Sb$_{12}$. In the superconducting state, 1/$T_1$ below $T_{\rm c}$ = 1.55 and 1.57 K at $P$ = 1.91 and 2.63 GPa shows a power-law temperature variations and are proportional to $T^5$ at temperatures considerably below $T_{\rm c}$. These data can be well fitted by the gap model $Δ(θ) = Δ_0\sinθ$ with $Δ_0$ = 3.08 $k_{\rm B}T_{\rm c}$ and 3.04 $k_{\rm B}T_{\rm c}$ for $P$ = 1.91 and 2.63 GPa, respectively. The results indicate there exists point nodes in the gap function.

Three-dimensional Yang-Mills theory is investigated in the Hamiltonian formalism based on the Karabali-Nair variable. A new algorithm is developed to obtain the renormalized Hamiltonian by identifying local counterterms in Lagrangian with the use of fictitious holomorphic symmetry existing in the framework with the KN variable. Our algorithm is totally algebraic and enables one to calculate the ground state wave functional recursively in gauge potentials. In particular, the Gaussian part thus calculated is shown to coincide with that obtained by Leigh et al. Higher-order corrections to the Gaussian part are also discussed.
