The reciprocity approach is a powerful method to determine the expected signal power of axion haloscopes in a model-independent way. Especially for open and broadband setups like the MADMAX dielectric haloscope the sensitivity to the axion field is difficult to calibrate since they do not allow discrete eigenmode analysis and are optically too large to fully simulate. The central idea of the reciprocity approach is to measure a reflection-induced test field in the setup instead of trying to simulate the axion-induced field. In this article, the reciprocity approach is used to determine the expected signal power of a dish antenna and a minimal dielectric haloscope directly from measurements. The results match expectations from simulation but also include important systematic effects that are too difficult to simulate. In particular, the effect of antenna standing waves and higher order mode perturbations can be quantified for the first time in a dielectric haloscope.

Abstract:
We discuss first results from hidden photon dark matter searches made with a prototype of the Broadband Radiometric Axion/ALPs Search Setup (BRASS-p) in the range of particle mass of 49.63-74.44 $μ$eV (frequency range of 12-18 GHz). We discuss first results from hidden photon dark matter searches made with a prototype of the Broadband Radiometric Axion/ALPs Search Setup (BRASS-p) in the range of particle mass of 49.63-74.44 $μ$eV (frequency range of 12-18 GHz). The conceptual design of BRASS and a detailed description of its present prototype, BRASS-p, are given, with a view of the potential application of such setups to hidden photon, axion, and axion-like particle (ALP) dark matter searches using heterodyne detectors in the range of particle mass from 40$μ$eV to 4000$μ$eV (10 GHz to 1 THz). Pioneering measurements made with BRASS-p achieve the record sensitivity of (0.3--1.0)$\times$$10^{-13}$ to the kinetic mixing between the normal and hidden photons, assuming the dark matter is made entirely of unpolarized hidden photons. Based on these results, a discussion of further prospects for dark matter searches using the BRASS-p apparatus is presented.

High-resolution far-infrared and sub-millimetre spectroscopy of water lines is an important tool to understand the physical and chemical properties of cometary atmospheres. We present observations of several rotational ortho- and para-water transitions in comet C/2008 Q3 (Garradd) performed with HIFI on Herschel. These observations have provided the first detection of the 2_{12}-1_{01} (1669 GHz) ortho and 1_{11}-0_{00} (1113 GHz) para transitions of water in a cometary spectrum. In addition, the ground-state transition 1_{10}-1_{01} at 557 GHz is detected and mapped. By detecting several water lines quasi-simultaneously and map** their emission we can constrain the excitation parameters in the coma. Synthetic line profiles are computed using excitation models which include excitation by collisions, solar infrared radiation, and radiation trap**. We obtain the gas kinetic temperature, constrain the electron density profile, and estimate the coma expansion velocity by analyzing the map and line shapes. We derive water production rates of 1.7-2.8 x 10^{28} s^{-1} over the range r_h = 1.83-1.85 AU.
