On conjugation invariant norms, asymptotic cones, metric ultraproducts and contractibility
Abstract: In the present paper we prove lemmata on strong contractibility in asymptotic cones and metric ultraproducts which we apply to both the case of finitely generated word norms and the case of conjugation invariant norms. We recover classically known contractibility results on free products and prove the contractibility of the asymptotic cone of the infinite symmetric group $\Sym_\infty$ equipped wit… ▽ More

Aut-invariant quasimorphisms on graph products of abelian groups
Abstract: The present paper constructs unbounded quasimorphisms that are invariant under all automorphisms on free products of more than two factors and on graph products of finitely generated abelian groups. This includes many classes of right angled Artin and right angled Coxeter groups. We discuss various geometrically arising families of graphs as examples and deduce the non-triviality of an invariant a… ▽ More

Aut-invariant quasimorphisms on free products
Abstract: Let $G=A \ast B$ be a free product of freely indecomposable groups. We explicitly construct quasimorphisms on $G$ which are invariant with respect to all automorphisms of $G$. We also prove that the space of such quasimorphisms is infinite-dimensional whenever $G$ is not the infinite dihedral group. As an application we prove that an invariant analogue of stable commutator length recently introduc… ▽ More

Qualitative counting closed geodesics
Abstract: We investigate the geometry of word metrics on fundamental groups of manifolds associated with the generating sets consisting of elements represented by closed geodesics. We ask whether the diameter of such a metric is finite or infinite. The first answer we interpret as an abundance of closed geodesics, while the second one as their scarcity. We discuss examples for both cases.
