A Refinement of the McCreight-Meyer Union Theorem
Abstract: Using properties of Blum complexity measures and certain complexity class operators, we exhibit a total computable and non-decreasing function $t_{\mathsf{poly}}$ such that for all $k$, $Σ_k\mathsf{P} = Σ_k\mathsf{TIME}(t_{\mathsf{poly}})$, $\mathsf{BPP} = \mathsf{BPTIME}(t_{\mathsf{poly}})$, $\mathsf{RP} = \mathsf{RTIME}(t_{\mathsf{poly}})$, $\mathsf{UP} = \mathsf{UTIME}(t_{\mathsf{poly}})$,… ▽ More

On a Weighted Series of the Hurwitz Zeta Function
Abstract: In this note we prove that for all $a \in \mathbb{N}$, $x \in \mathbb{R}_+ \cup \{0\}$, and $s \in \mathbb{C}$ with $\Re(s) > a + 2$, the (alternating) weighted series of the Hurwitz zeta function, $$ \sum_{k \geq 1} (\pm 1)^k (k + x)^aζ(s,k + x), $$ resolves into a finite combination of Hurwitz (Lerch) zeta functions. This applies in Marichal and Zenaïdi's theory on analogues of the Bohr-Mollerup… ▽ More

On the Ramsey Numbers of Odd-Linked Double Stars
Abstract: The linked double star $S_c(n,m)$, where $n \geq m \geq 0$, is the graph consisting of the union of two stars $K_{1,n}$ and $K_{1,m}$ with a path on $c$ vertices joining the centers. Its ramsey number $r(S_c(n,m))$ is the smallest integer $r$ such that every $2$-coloring of the edges of a $K_r$ admits a monochromatic $S_c(n,m)$. In this paper, we study the ramsey numbers of linked double stars whe… ▽ More

On Ramanujan Sums of a Real Variable and a New Ramanujan Expansion for the Divisor Function
Abstract: We show that the absolute convergence of a Ramanujan expansion does not guarantee the convergence of its real variable generalization, which is obtained by replacing the integer argument in the Ramanujan sums with a real number. We also construct a new Ramanujan expansion for the divisor function. While our expansion is amenable to a continuous and absolutely convergent real variable generalizatio… ▽ More
