This study aims to explore different pre-trained models offered in the Torchvision package which is available in the PyTorch library. And investigate their effectiveness on fine-grained images classification. Transfer Learning is an effective method of achieving extremely good performance with insufficient training data. In many real-world situations, people cannot collect sufficient data required to train a deep neural network model efficiently. Transfer Learning models are pre-trained on a large data set, and can bring a good performance on smaller datasets with significantly lower training time. Torchvision package offers us many models to apply the Transfer Learning on smaller datasets. Therefore, researchers may need a guideline for the selection of a good model. We investigate Torchvision pre-trained models on four different data sets: 10 Monkey Species, 225 Bird Species, Fruits 360, and Oxford 102 Flowers. These data sets have images of different resolutions, class numbers, and different achievable accuracies. We also apply their usual fully-connected layer and the Spinal fully-connected layer to investigate the effectiveness of SpinalNet. The Spinal fully-connected layer brings better performance in most situations. We apply the same augmentation for different models for the same data set for a fair comparison. This paper may help future Computer Vision researchers in choosing a proper Transfer Learning model.

Biomolecular motor proteins that generate forces by consuming chemical energy obtained from ATP hydrolysis are pivotal for organizing broad cytoskeletal structures in living cells. The control of such cytoskeletal structures benefits programmable protein patterning; however, our current knowledge is limited owing to the underdevelopment of an engineering approach for controlling pattern formation. Here, we demonstrate the tailoring of assembled patterns of microtubules (MTs) driven by kinesin motors by designing the boundary shape in fabricated microwells. We found an MT bundle structure along the microwell wall and a bridging structure perpendicular to the wall. Corroborated by the theory of self-propelled rods, we further showed that the alignment of MTs defined by the boundary shape determined the transition of the assembled patterns, providing a blueprint to reconstruct bridge structures in microchannels. Our findings provide a geometric rule to tailor the self-organization of cytoskeletons and motor proteins for nanotechnological applications.

This expeditious growth of misinformation creates adverse effects on the people living in the society. Researchers are trying their best to mitigate this problem using different approaches based on Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning (DL), and Natural Language Processing (NLP). This survey aims to study different approaches of misinformation detection on COVID-19 in recent literature to help the researchers in this domain. More specifically, we review the different methods used for COVID-19 misinformation detection in their research with an overview of data pre-processing and feature extraction methods to get a better understanding of their work. We also summarize the existing datasets which can be used for further research. Finally, we discuss the limitations of the existing methods and highlight some potential future research directions along this dimension to combat the spreading of misinformation during a pandemic.

The objectives of this research are analysing the performance of the state-of-the-art machine learning techniques for classifying COVID-19 from cough sound and identifying the model(s) that consistently perform well across different cough datasets. Different performance evaluation metrics (such as precision, sensitivity, specificity, AUC, accuracy, etc.) make it difficult to select the best performance model. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose an ensemble-based multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) method for selecting top performance machine learning technique(s) for COVID-19 cough classification. We use four cough datasets, namely Cambridge, Coswara, Virufy, and NoCoCoDa to verify the proposed method. At first, our proposed method uses the audio features of cough samples and then applies machine learning (ML) techniques to classify them as COVID-19 or non-COVID-19. Then, we consider a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) method that combines ensemble technologies (i.e., soft and hard) to select the best model. In MCDM, we use the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) for ranking purposes, while entropy is applied to calculate evaluation criteria weights. In addition, we apply the feature reduction process through recursive feature elimination with cross-validation under different estimators. The results of our empirical evaluations show that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art models.

The STAR collaboration presents jet substructure measurements related to both the momentum fraction and the opening angle within jets in \pp and \AuAu collisions at \sqrtsn $= 200$ GeV. The substructure observables include SoftDrop groomed momentum fraction (\zg), groomed jet radius (\rg), and subjet momentum fraction (\zsj) and opening angle (\tsj). The latter observable is introduced for the first time. Fully corrected subjet measurements are presented for \pp collisions and are compared to leading order Monte Carlo models. The subjet \tsj~distributions reflect the jets leading opening angle and are utilized as a proxy for the resolution scale of the medium in \AuAu collisions. We compare data from \AuAu collisions to those from \pp which are embedded in minimum-bias \AuAu events in order to include the effects of detector smearing and the heavy-ion collision underlying event. The subjet observables are shown to be more robust to the background than \zg~and \rg.
We observe no significant modifications of the subjet observables within the two highest-energy, back-to-back jets, resulting in a distribution of opening angles and the splittings that are vacuum-like. We also report measurements of the differential di-jet momentum imbalance ($A_{\rm{J}}$) for jets of varying \tsj. We find no qualitative differences in energy loss signatures for varying angular scales in the range $0.1 < $ \tsj $ < 0.3$, leading to the possible interpretation that energy loss in this population of high momentum di-jet pairs, is due to soft medium-induced gluon radiation from a single color-charge as it traverses the medium.

Understanding gluon density distributions and how they are modified in nuclei are among the most important goals in nuclear physics. In recent years, diffractive vector meson production measured in ultra-peripheral collisions (UPCs) at heavy-ion colliders has provided a new tool for probing the gluon density. In this Letter, we report the first measurement of $J/ψ$ photoproduction off the deuteron in UPCs at the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}=200~\rm GeV$ in d$+$Au collisions. The differential cross section as a function of momentum transfer $-t$ is measured. In addition, data with a neutron tagged in the deuteron-going Zero-Degree Calorimeter is investigated for the first time, which is found to be consistent with the expectation of incoherent diffractive scattering at low momentum transfer. Theoretical predictions based on the Color Glass Condensate saturation model and the gluon shadowing model are compared with the data quantitatively. A better agreement with the saturation model has been observed. With the current measurement, the results are found to be directly sensitive to the gluon density distribution of the deuteron and the deuteron breakup, which provides insights into the nuclear gluonic structure.

Shannon's Index of Difficulty ($ID$), reputable for quantifying the perceived difficulty of pointing tasks as a logarithmic relationship between movement-amplitude ($A$) and target-width ($W$), is used for modelling the corresponding observed movement-times ($MT_O$) in such tasks in controlled experimental setup. However, real-life pointing tasks are both spatially and temporally uncontrolled, being influenced by factors such as - human aspects, subjective behavior, the context of interaction, the inherent speed-accuracy trade-off where, emphasizing accuracy compromises speed of interaction and vice versa, and so on. Effective target-width ($W_e$) is considered as spatial adjustment for compensating accuracy. However, no significant adjustment exists in the literature for compensating speed in different contexts of interaction in these tasks. As a result, without any temporal adjustment, the true difficulty of an uncontrolled pointing task may be inaccurately quantified using Shannon's ID. To verify this, we propose the ANTASID (A Novel Temporal Adjustment to Shannon's ID) formulation with detailed performance analysis. We hypothesized a temporal adjustment factor ($t$) as a binary logarithm of $MT_O$, compensating for speed due to contextual differences and minimizing the non-linearity between movement-amplitude and target-width. Considering spatial and/or temporal adjustments to ID, we conducted regression analysis using our own and Benchmark datasets in both controlled and uncontrolled scenarios of pointing tasks with a generic mouse.ANTASID formulation showed significantly superior fitness values and throughput in all the scenarios while reducing the standard error. Furthermore, the quantification of ID with ANTASID varied significantly compared to the classical formulations of Shannon's ID, validating the purpose of this study.

Stroke patients with Upper Limb Disability (ULD) are re-acclimated to their lost motor capability through therapeutic interventions, following assessment by Physiotherapists (PTs) using various qualitative assessment protocols. However, the assessments are often biased and prone to errors. Real-time visualization and quantitative analysis of various Performance Metrics (PMs) of patient's motion data, such as - Range of Motion (RoM), Repetition Rate (RR), Velocity (V), etc., may be vital for proper assessment. In this study, we present Renovo, a wearable inertial sensor-based therapeutic system, which assists PTs with real-time visualization and quantitative patient assessment, while providing patients with progress feedback. We showcase the results of a three-week pilot study on the rehabilitation of ULD patients (N=16), in 3 successive sessions at one-week interval, following evaluation both by Renovo and PTs (N=5). Results suggest that sensor-based quantitative assessment reduces the possibility of human error and bias, enhancing efficiency of rehabilitation.

Objective: This study aims to identify the social determinants of mental health among undergraduate students in Bangladesh, a develo** nation in South Asia. Our goal is to identify the broader social determinants of mental health among this population, study the manifestation of these determinants in their day-to-day life, and explore the feasibility of self-monitoring tools in hel** them identify the specific factors or relationships that impact their mental health. Methods: We conducted a 21-day study with 38 undergraduate students from seven universities in Bangladesh. We conducted two semi-structured interviews: one pre-study and one post-study. During the 21-day study, participants used an Android application to self-report and self-monitor their mood after each phone conversation. The app prompted participants to report their mood after each phone conversation and provided graphs and charts so that participants could independently review their mood and conversation patterns.
Results: Our results show that academics, family, job and economic condition, romantic relationships, and religion are the major social determinants of mental health among undergraduate students in Bangladesh. Our app helped the participants pinpoint the specific issues related to these factors as participants could review the pattern of their moods and emotions from past conversation history. Although our app does not provide any explicit recommendation, participants took certain steps on their own to improve their mental health (e.g., reduced the frequency of communication with certain persons).
Conclusions: Overall, the findings from this study would provide better insights for the researchers to design better solutions to help the younger population from this part of the world.

To ensure global food security and the overall profit of stakeholders, the importance of correctly detecting and classifying plant diseases is paramount. In this connection, the emergence of deep learning-based image classification has introduced a substantial number of solutions. However, the applicability of these solutions in low-end devices requires fast, accurate, and computationally inexpensive systems. This work proposes a lightweight transfer learning-based approach for detecting diseases from tomato leaves. It utilizes an effective preprocessing method to enhance the leaf images with illumination correction for improved classification. Our system extracts features using a combined model consisting of a pretrained MobileNetV2 architecture and a classifier network for effective prediction. Traditional augmentation approaches are replaced by runtime augmentation to avoid data leakage and address the class imbalance issue. Evaluation on tomato leaf images from the PlantVillage dataset shows that the proposed architecture achieves 99.30% accuracy with a model size of 9.60MB and 4.87M floating-point operations, making it a suitable choice for real-life applications in low-end devices. Our codes and models are available at https://github.com/redwankarimsony/project-tomato.

The chiral magnetic effect (CME) is predicted to occur as a consequence of a local violation of $\cal P$ and $\cal CP$ symmetries of the strong interaction amidst a strong electro-magnetic field generated in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Experimental manifestation of the CME involves a separation of positively and negatively charged hadrons along the direction of the magnetic field. Previous measurements of the CME-sensitive charge-separation observables remain inconclusive because of large background contributions. In order to better control the influence of signal and backgrounds, the STAR Collaboration performed a blind analysis of a large data sample of approximately 3.8 billion isobar collisions of $^{96}_{44}$Ru+$^{96}_{44}$Ru and $^{96}_{40}$Zr+$^{96}_{40}$Zr at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=200$ GeV. Prior to the blind analysis, the CME signatures are predefined as a significant excess of the CME-sensitive observables in Ru+Ru collisions over those in Zr+Zr collisions, owing to a larger magnetic field in the former. A precision down to 0.4% is achieved, as anticipated, in the relative magnitudes of the pertinent observables between the two isobar systems. Observed differences in the multiplicity and flow harmonics at the matching centrality indicate that the magnitude of the CME background is different between the two species. No CME signature that satisfies the predefined criteria has been observed in isobar collisions in this blind analysis.

The photon beam polarization asymmetry, similar to the beam-spin asymmetry in Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering, is sensitive to the imaginary part of the Compton Form Factors and provides a way to test the universality of the Generalized Parton Distributions. The angular asymmetry of the decay leptons accesses the real part of the Compton Form Factors and thus the D-term in the parametrization of the Generalized Parton Distributions.

The purpose of this study is to systematically review, assess, and synthesize research articles that have used different machine learning techniques to detect and diagnose COVID-19 from chest X-ray and CT scan images. A structured literature search was conducted in the relevant bibliographic databases to ensure that the survey solely centered on reproducible and high-quality research. We selected papers based on our inclusion criteria. In this survey, we reviewed $98$ articles that fulfilled our inclusion criteria. We have surveyed a complete pipeline of chest imaging analysis techniques related to COVID-19, including data collection, pre-processing, feature extraction, classification, and visualization. We have considered CT scans and X-rays as both are widely used to describe the latest developments in medical imaging to detect COVID-19. This survey provides researchers with valuable insights into different machine learning techniques and their performance in the detection and diagnosis of COVID-19 from chest imaging. The $φ$ mesons and $Ξ^{-}$ hyperons are measured through hadronic decay channels, $φ\rightarrow K^+K^-$ and $Ξ^-\rightarrow Λπ^-$. Collision centrality and rapidity dependence of the transverse momentum spectra for these strange hadrons are presented. The $4π$ yields and ratios are compared to thermal model and hadronic transport model predictions. At this collision energy, thermal model with grand canonical ensemble (GCE) under-predicts the $φ/K^-$ and $φ/Ξ^-$ ratios while the result of canonical ensemble (CE) calculations reproduce $φ/K^-$, with the correlation length $r_c \sim 2.7$\,fm, and $φ/Ξ^-$, $r_c \sim 4.2$\,fm, for the 0-10\% central collisions. Hadronic transport models including high mass resonance decays could also describe the ratios. While thermal calculations with GCE work well for strangeness production in high energy collisions, the change to CE at $\rm{3\,GeV}$ implies a rather different medium property at high baryon density.

We report on the measurements of directed flow $v_1$ and elliptic flow $v_2$ for hadrons ($π^{\pm}$, $K^{\pm}$, $K_{S}^0$, $p$, $φ$, $Λ$ and $Ξ^{-}$) from Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 3\,GeV and $v_{2}$ for ($π^{\pm}$, $K^{\pm}$, $p$ and $\overline{p}$) at 27 and 54.4\,GeV with the STAR experiment. While at the two higher energy midcentral collisions the number-of-constituent-quark (NCQ) scaling holds, at 3\,GeV the $v_{2}$ at midrapidity is negative for all hadrons and the NCQ scaling is absent. In addition, the $v_1$ slopes at midrapidity for almost all observed hadrons are found to be positive, implying dominant repulsive baryonic interactions. The features of negative $v_2$ and positive $v_1$ slope at 3\,GeV can be reproduced with a baryonic mean-field in transport model calculations. These results imply that the medium in such collisions is likely characterized by baryonic interactions.

The recent discovery of magnetic ordering in two-dimension has lead to colossal efforts to find atomically thin materials that order at high temperatures. However, due to fundamental spin fluctuation in reduced dimension, the room-temperature ferromagnetism remains elusive. Here, we report a dramatic manipulation of magnetic ordering up to room temperature in the monolayer CrBr$_3$, within the first-principles Heisenberg XXZ model. The exchange and anisotropic magnetic interactions are externally modulated by a gate-induced charge carrier do** that triggers a nontrivial phase diagram. High-temperature ferromagnetism is associated with a substantial increase in both effective ferromagnetic exchange and overall magnetic anisotropy under experimentally attainable hole do**. In contrast, electron do** quickly switches the magnetic easy axis. The gate-tuneable room temperature ferromagnetism in CrBr$_3$ presents new possibilities in electrically controlled spintronic and magnetoelectric devices based on atomically thin crystals.

Global hyperon polarization, $\overline{P}_\mathrm{H}$, in Au+Au collisions over a large range of collision energy, $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}$, was recently measured and successfully reproduced by hydrodynamic and transport models with intense fluid vorticity of the quark-gluon plasma. While naïve extrapolation of data trends suggests a large $\overline{P}_\mathrm{H}$ as the collision energy is reduced, the behavior of $\overline{P}_\mathrm{H}$ at small $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}<7.7$ GeV is unknown. Operating the STAR experiment in fixed-target mode, we measured the polarization of $Λ$ hyperons along the direction of global angular momentum in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}=3$ GeV. The observation of substantial polarization of $4.91\pm0.81(\rm stat.)\pm0.15(\rm syst.)$% in these collisions may require a reexamination of the viscosity of any fluid created in the collision, of the thermalization timescale of rotational modes, and of hadronic mechanisms to produce global polarization.

Recent realizations of intrinsic magnetic order in truly two-dimensional materials have opened new avenues in the fundamental knowledge and spintronic applications. Here we develop an anisotropic Heisenberg model with relativistic exchange interactions that are obtained from the first-principles calculations. We demonstrate the crucial importance of magnetic interactions beyond the first-neighbour to qualitatively and quantitatively reproduce the experimental results. Once we ascertain the predictive capacity of the model for chromium trihalides and CrGeTe$_3$, we investigate the feasibility of tuning the magnetic ordering by electrical means in these materials. A remarkable five-fold increase in the ferromagnetic Curie temperature is predicted in monolayer CrI$_3$ within experimentally obtainable hole density. The elusive microscopic mechanism behind the do**-dependent Curie temperature is illustrated. Further, in the present context, the effects of biaxial strain and chemical do** are also addressed. The results should trigger further experimental attention to test the present conclusions.

In this paper we present one of the winning solutions for the Recommendation task of the SIGIR 2021 Workshop on E-commerce Data Challenge. Our solution was inspired by NLP techniques and consists of an ensemble of two Transformer architectures - Transformer-XL and XLNet - trained with autoregressive and autoencoding approaches. To leverage most of the rich dataset made available for the competition, we describe how we prepared multi-model features by combining tabular events with textual and image vectors. We also present a model prediction analysis to better understand the effectiveness of our architectures for the session-based recommendation.

The objectives of this study are understanding the requirements of a CSA education app, identifying the limitations of existing apps, and providing a guideline for better app design. An electronic search across three major app stores(Google Play, Apple, and Microsoft) is conducted and the selected apps are rated by three independent raters. Total 191 apps are found and finally, 14 apps are selected for review based on defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. An app rating scale for CSA education apps is devised by modifying existing scales and used to evaluate the selected 14 apps. Our rating scale evaluates essential features, criteria, and software quality characteristics that are necessary for CSA education apps, and determined their effectiveness for potential use as CSA education programs for children. The internal consistency of the rating scale and the inter and intra-rater reliability among the raters are also calculated. User comments from the app stores are collected and analyzed to understand their expectations and views. After analyzing the feasibility of reviewed apps, CSA app design considerations are proposed that highlight game-based teaching approaches. Evaluation results showed that most of the reviewed apps are not suitable for being used as CSA education programs. While a few may be able to teach children and parents individually, only the apps "Child Abuse Prevention" (rate 3.89 out of 5) and "Orbit Rescue" (rate 3.92 out of 5) could be deemed suitable for a school-based CSA education program. However, all those apps need to be improved both their software qualities and CSA-specific features for being considered as potential CSA education programs. This study provides the necessary knowledge to developers and individuals regarding essential features and software quality characteristics for designing and develo** CSA education apps.

The chiral magnetic effect (CME) refers to charge separation along a strong magnetic field due to imbalanced chirality of quarks in local parity and charge-parity violating domains in quantum chromodynamics. The experimental measurement of the charge separation is made difficult by the presence of a major background from elliptic azimuthal anisotropy. This background and the CME signal have different sensitivities to the spectator and participant planes, and could thus be determined by measurements with respect to these planes. We report such measurements in Au+Au collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 200 GeV at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider. It is found that the charge separation, with the flow background removed, is consistent with zero in peripheral (large impact parameter) collisions. Some indication of finite CME signals is seen in mid-central (intermediate impact parameter) collisions. Significant residual background effects may, however, still be present.

The primary goal of this paper is to examine the motorcyclists' activities during the overtaking period, as well as to develop a model of total overtaking time. For the experimental study, instrumented motorcycles were used to collect data and design an overall overtaking period model. The possibility of death during an attempt to overtake is maximum for people walking on rural roads, mainly identified by a scarcity of pathways and higher speeds of vehicles. It is important to recognize and prototype driver actions during the overtaking moves to set up collision avoidance strategies in order to prevent these collisions, such that device adjustments are acceptable as they occur beyond the comfort zone of the drivers. The purpose of this research is to address both vehicle overtaking movements along urban roads and to develop a collision avoidance system. This research, based on tests performed and instrumented driving information, may lead to the discovery of advanced driver assistance systems, analyzing driver behavior during overtaking. A total of 500 overtaking movements were registered with 50 motorcycles set up with a high-resolution camera and GPS system implemented by 50 professional bikers in India in an undivided one-way road. A technique was developed to collect data explaining the actions of the motorcyclists, based on video and GPS analyses. The overall overtaking period was designed using a risk-based model, which indicates the span of the overtaking based on several coefficients. The proposed model is useful to analyze the behavior during overtaking moves, as well as to develop road and vehicle safety systems to reduce the chances of accidents.

According to first principle Lattice QCD calculations, the transition from quark-gluon plasma to hadronic matter is a smooth crossover in the region $μ_{\rm B}\leq T_{c}$. In this range the ratio, $C_{6}/C_{2}$, of net-baryon distributions are predicted to be negative. In this paper, we report the first measurement of the midrapidity net-proton $C_{6}/C_{2}$ from 27, 54.4 and 200 GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC. The dependence on collision centrality and kinematic acceptance in ($p_{T}$, $y$) are analyzed. While for 27 and 54.4 GeV collisions the $C_{6}/C_{2}$ values are close to zero within uncertainties, it is observed that for 200 GeV collisions, the $C_{6}/C_{2}$ ratio becomes progressively negative from peripheral to central collisions. Transport model calculations without critical dynamics predict mostly positive values except for the most central collisions within uncertainties. These observations seem to favor a smooth crossover in the high energy nuclear collisions at top RHIC energy.

Semantic relationships, such as hyponym-hypernym, cause-effect, meronym-holonym etc. between a pair of entities in a sentence are usually reflected through syntactic patterns. Automatic extraction of such patterns benefits several downstream tasks, including, entity extraction, ontology building, and question answering. Unfortunately, automatic extraction of such patterns has not yet received much attention from NLP and information retrieval researchers. In this work, we propose an attention-based supervised deep learning model, ASPER, which extracts syntactic patterns between entities exhibiting a given semantic relation in the sentential context. We validate the performance of ASPER on three distinct semantic relations -- hyponym-hypernym, cause-effect, and meronym-holonym on six datasets. Experimental results show that for all these semantic relations, ASPER can automatically identify a collection of syntactic patterns reflecting the existence of such a relation between a pair of entities in a sentence. In comparison to the existing methodologies of syntactic pattern extraction, ASPER's performance is substantially superior.

We present the first inclusive measurements of the invariant and SoftDrop jet mass in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV at STAR. The measurements are fully corrected for detector effects, and reported differentially in both the jet transverse momentum and jet radius parameter. We compare the measurements to established leading-order Monte Carlo event generators and find that STAR-tuned PYTHIA-6 reproduces the data, while LHC tunes of PYTHIA-8 and HERWIG-7 do not agree with the data, providing further constraints on parameter tuning. Finally, we observe that SoftDrop grooming, for which the contribution of wide-angle non-perturbative radiation is suppressed, shifts the jet mass distributions into closer agreement with the partonic jet mass as determined by both PYTHIA-8 and a next-to-leading-logarithmic accuracy perturbative QCD calculation. These measurements complement recent LHC measurements in a different kinematic region, as well as establish a baseline for future jet mass measurements in heavy-ion collisions at RHIC.

Transverse momentum ($p_{\text{T}}$) dependence of flow coefficients ($v_{2}$, $v_{3}$, and $v_{4}$) is presented for minimum bias collisions and three different centrality intervals. Number of constituent quark scaling of the measured flow coefficients in U + U collisions is discussed. We also present the ratio of $v_{n}$ scaled by the participant eccentricity ($\varepsilon_{n}\left\lbrace 2 \right\rbrace$) to explore system size dependence and collectivity in U + U collisions. The magnitude of $v_{2}/\varepsilon_{2}$ is found to be smaller in U + U collisions than that in central Au + Au collisions contradicting naive eccentricity scaling. Furthermore, the ratios between various flow harmonics ($v_{3}/v_{2}^{3/2}$, $v_{4}/v_{2}^{4/2}$) are studied and compared with hydrodynamic and transport model calculations.

We report high-precision measurements of the longitudinal double-spin asymmetry, $A_{LL}$, for midrapidity inclusive jet and dijet production in polarized $pp$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=200\,\mathrm{GeV}$. The new inclusive jet data are sensitive to the gluon helicity distribution, $Δg(x,Q^2)$, for gluon momentum fractions in the range from $x \simeq 0.05$ to $x \simeq 0.5$, while the new dijet data provide further constraints on the $x$ dependence of $Δg(x,Q^2)$. The results are in good agreement with previous measurements at $\sqrt{s}=200\,\mathrm{GeV}$ and with recent theoretical evaluations of prior world data. Our new results have better precision and thus strengthen the evidence that $Δg(x,Q^2)$ is positive for $x > 0.05$.

Automatically detecting violence from surveillance footage is a subset of activity recognition that deserves special attention because of its wide applicability in unmanned security monitoring systems, internet video filtration, etc. In this work, we propose an efficient two-stream deep learning architecture leveraging Separable Convolutional LSTM (SepConvLSTM) and pre-trained MobileNet where one stream takes in background suppressed frames as inputs and other stream processes difference of adjacent frames. We employed simple and fast input pre-processing techniques that highlight the moving objects in the frames by suppressing non-moving backgrounds and capture the motion in-between frames. As violent actions are mostly characterized by body movements these inputs help produce discriminative features. SepConvLSTM is constructed by replacing convolution operation at each gate of ConvLSTM with a depthwise separable convolution that enables producing robust long-range Spatio-temporal features while using substantially fewer parameters. We experimented with three fusion methods to combine the output feature maps of the two streams. Evaluation of the proposed methods was done on three standard public datasets. Our model outperforms the accuracy on the larger and more challenging RWF-2000 dataset by more than a 2% margin while matching state-of-the-art results on the smaller datasets. Our experiments lead us to conclude, the proposed models are superior in terms of both computational efficiency and detection accuracy.

Action quality assessment (AQA) aims at automatically judging human action based on a video of the said action and assigning a performance score to it. The majority of works in the existing literature on AQA divide RGB videos into short clips, transform these clips to higher-level representations using Convolutional 3D (C3D) networks, and aggregate them through averaging. These higher-level representations are used to perform AQA. We find that the current clip level feature aggregation technique of averaging is insufficient to capture the relative importance of clip level features. In this work, we propose a learning-based weighted-averaging technique. Using this technique, better performance can be obtained without sacrificing too much computational resources. We call this technique Weight-Decider(WD). We also experiment with ResNets for learning better representations for action quality assessment. We assess the effects of the depth and input clip size of the convolutional neural network on the quality of action score predictions. We achieve a new state-of-the-art Spearman's rank correlation of 0.9315 (an increase of 0.45%) on the MTL-AQA dataset using a 34 layer (2+1)D ResNet with the capability of processing 32 frame clips, with WD aggregation.

We detail the method used to ensure the exclusivity of the measured reactions, in particular the upgrade of CLAS with a radial time projection chamber to detect the low-energy recoiling $^4$He nuclei and an inner calorimeter to extend the photon detection acceptance at forward angles. Our results confirm the theoretically predicted enhancement of the coherent ($e^4$He$~\to~e'$$^4$He$'γ'$) beam spin asymmetries compared to those observed on the free proton, while the incoherent ($e^4$He$~\to~e'$p$'γ'$X$'$) asymmetries exhibit a 30$\%$ suppression. From the coherent data, we were able to extract, in a model-independent way, the real and imaginary parts of the only $^4$He Compton form factor, $\cal H_A$, leading the way toward 3D imaging of the partonic structure of nuclei.

Java platform provides various APIs to facilitate secure coding. However, correctly using security APIs is usually challenging for developers who lack cybersecurity training. Prior work shows that many developers misuse security APIs; such misuses can introduce vulnerabilities into software, void security protections, and present security exploits to hackers. To eliminate such API-related vulnerabilities, this paper presents SEADER -- our new approach that detects and repairs security API misuses. Given an exemplar, insecure code snippet, and its secure counterpart, SEADER compares the snippets and conducts data dependence analysis to infer the security API misuse templates and corresponding fixing operations. Based on the inferred information, given a program, SEADER performs inter-procedural static analysis to search for any security API misuse and to propose customized fixing suggestions for those vulnerabilities.
To evaluate SEADER, we applied it to 25 <insecure, secure> code pairs, and SEADER successfully inferred 18 unique API misuse templates and related fixes. With these vulnerability repair patterns, we further applied SEADER to 10 open-source projects that contain in total 32 known vulnerabilities. Our experiment shows that SEADER detected vulnerabilities with 100% precision, 84% recall, and 91% accuracy. Additionally, we applied SEADER to 100 Apache open-source projects and detected 988 vulnerabilities; SEADER always customized repair suggestions correctly. Based on SEADER's outputs, we filed 60 pull requests. Up till now, developers of 18 projects have offered positive feedbacks on SEADER's suggestions. Our results indicate that SEADER can effectively help developers detect and fix security API misuses. Whereas prior work either detects API misuses or suggests simple fixes, SEADER is the first tool to do both for nontrivial vulnerability repairs.

Automated detection of breast tumor in early stages using B-Mode Ultrasound image is crucial for preventing widespread breast cancer specially among women. This paper is primarily focusing on the classification of breast tumors through statistical modelling such as Rician inverse Gaussian (RiIG) pdf of contourlet transformed B-Mode image of breast tumors which is not reported yet in other earlier works. The suitability of RiIG distribution in modeling the contourlet coefficients is illustrated and compared with that of Nakagami distribution. The proposed method consists of pre-processing to remove the speckle noise, segmentation of the lesion region, contourlet transform on the B-Mode Ultrasound image and using the corresponding contourlet sub-band coefficients and the RiIG parameters, production of contourlet parametric (CP) images and weighted contourlet parametric (WCP) images. A number of geometrical, statistical, and texture features are calculated from B-Mode and the contourlet parametric images. In order to classify the features, seven different classifiers are employed. The proposed approach is applied to two different datasets (Mendeley Data and Dataset B) those are available publicly. It is shown that with parametric images, accuracies in the range of 94-97% are achieved for different classifiers. Specifically, with the support vector machine and k-nearest-neighbor classifier, very high accuracies of 97.2% and 97.55% can be obtained for the Mendeley Data and Dataset B,respectively, using the weighted contourlet parametric images. The reported classification performance is also compared with that of other works using the datasets employed in this paper. It is seen that the proposed approach using weighted contourlet parametric images can provide a superior performance.

The $C_{n}$ and $κ_n$ are presented as a function of collision energy, centrality and kinematic acceptance in rapidity, $y$, and transverse momentum, $p_{T}$. The data were taken during the first phase of the Beam Energy Scan (BES) program (2010 -- 2017) at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) facility. The measurements are carried out at midrapidity ($|y| <$ 0.5) and transverse momentum 0.4 $<$ $p_{\rm T}$ $<$ 2.0 GeV/$c$, using the STAR detector at RHIC. We observe a non-monotonic energy dependence ($\sqrt{s_{\mathrm {NN}}}$ = 7.7 -- 62.4 GeV) of the net-proton $C_{4}$/$C_{2}$ with the significance of 3.1$σ$ for the 0-5\% central Au+Au collisions. This is consistent with the expectations of critical fluctuations in a QCD-inspired model. Thermal and transport model calculations show a monotonic variation with $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm {NN}}}$. For the multiparticle correlation functions, we observe significant negative values for a two-particle correlation function, $κ_2$, of protons and antiprotons, which are mainly due to the effects of baryon number conservation. Furthermore, it is found that the four-particle correlation function, $κ_4$, of protons plays a role in determining the energy dependence of proton $C_4/C_1$ below 19.6 GeV, which cannot be understood by the effect of baryon number conservation.

We report on the first measurement of charm-strange meson $D_s^{\pm}$ production at midrapidity in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{\rm NN}}}$ = 200 GeV from the STAR experiment. The yield ratio between strange ($D_{s}^{\pm}$) and non-strange ($D^{0}$) open-charm mesons is presented and compared to model calculations. A significant enhancement, relative to a PYTHIA simulation of $p$+$p$ collisions, is observed in the $D_{s}^{\pm}/D^0$ yield ratio in Au+Au collisions over a large range of collision centralities. Model calculations incorporating abundant strange-quark production in the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) and coalescence hadronization qualitatively reproduce the data. The transverse-momentum integrated yield ratio of $D_{s}^{\pm}/D^0$ at midrapidity is consistent with a prediction from a statistical hadronization model with the parameters constrained by the yields of light and strange hadrons measured at the same collision energy. These results suggest that the coalescence of charm quarks with strange quarks in the QGP plays an important role in $D_{s}^{\pm}$ meson production in heavy-ion collisions.

Object classification is a significant task in computer vision. It has become an effective research area as an important aspect of image processing and the building block of image localization, detection, and scene parsing. Object classification from low-quality images is difficult for the variance of object colors, aspect ratios, and cluttered backgrounds. The field of object classification has seen remarkable advancements, with the development of deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs). Deep neural networks have been demonstrated as very powerful systems for facing the challenge of object classification from high-resolution images, but deploying such object classification networks on the embedded device remains challenging due to the high computational and memory requirements. Using high-quality images often causes high computational and memory complexity, whereas low-quality images can solve this issue. Hence, in this paper, we investigate an optimal architecture that accurately classifies low-quality images using DCNNs architectures. To validate different baselines on lowquality images, we perform experiments using webcam captured image datasets of 10 different objects. In this research work, we evaluate the proposed architecture by implementing popular CNN architectures. The experimental results validate that the MobileNet architecture delivers better than most of the available CNN architectures for low-resolution webcam image datasets.

Global polarization of $Ξ$ and $Ω$ hyperons has been measured for the first time in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}$ = 200 GeV. The measurements of the $Ξ^-$ and $\barΞ^+$ hyperon polarization have been performed by two independent methods, via analysis of the angular distribution of the daughter particles in the parity violating weak decay $Ξ\rightarrowΛ+π$, as well as by measuring the polarization of the daughter $Λ$-hyperon, polarized via polarization transfer from its parent. The polarization, obtained by combining the results from the two methods and averaged over $Ξ^-$ and $\barΞ^+$, is measured to be $\langle P_Ξ\rangle = 0.47\pm0.10~({\rm stat.})\pm0.23~({\rm syst.})\,\%$ for the collision centrality 20\%-80\%. The $\langle P_Ξ\rangle$ is found to be slightly larger than the inclusive $Λ$ polarization and in reasonable agreement with a multi-phase transport model (AMPT). The $\langle P_Ξ\rangle$ is found to follow the centrality dependence of the vorticity predicted in the model, increasing toward more peripheral collisions. The global polarization of $Ω$, $\langle P_Ω\rangle = 1.11\pm0.87~({\rm stat.})\pm1.97~({\rm syst.})\,\%$ was obtained by measuring the polarization of daughter $Λ$ in the decay $Ω\rightarrow Λ+ K$, assuming the polarization transfer factor $C_{ΩΛ}=1$.

The STAR Collaboration reports measurements of the transverse single-spin asymmetry (TSSA) of inclusive $π^0$ at center-of-mass energies ($\sqrt s$) of 200 GeV and 500 GeV in transversely polarized proton-proton collisions in the pseudo-rapidity region 2.7 to 4.0. The results at the two different energies show a continuous increase of the TSSA with Feynman-$x$, and, when compared to previous measurements, no dependence on $\sqrt s$ from 19.4 GeV to 500 GeV is found. To investigate the underlying physics leading to this large TSSA, different topologies have been studied. $π^0$ with no nearby particles tend to have a higher TSSA than inclusive $π^0$. The TSSA for inclusive electromagnetic jets, sensitive to the Sivers effect in the initial state, is substantially smaller, but shows the same behavior as the inclusive $π^0$ asymmetry as a function of Feynman-$x$. To investigate final-state effects, the Collins asymmetry of $π^0$ inside electromagnetic jets has been measured. The Collins asymmetry is analyzed for its dependence on the $π^0$ momentum transverse to the jet thrust axis and its dependence on the fraction of jet energy carried by the $π^0$. The asymmetry was found to be small in each case for both center-of-mass energies. All the measurements are compared to QCD-based theoretical calculations for transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions and fragmentation functions. Some discrepancies are found, which indicates new mechanisms might be involved.

The STAR Collaboration reports a measurement of the transverse single-spin asymmetries, $A_{N}$, for neutral pions produced in polarized proton collisions with protons ($pp$), with aluminum nuclei ($p\rm{Al}$) and with gold nuclei ($p\rm{Au}$) at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 200 GeV. Neutral pions are observed in the forward direction relative to the transversely polarized proton beam, in the pseudo-rapidity region $2.7<η<3.8$. Results are presented for $π^0$s observed in the STAR FMS electromagnetic calorimeter in narrow Feynman x ($x_F$) and transverse momentum ($p_T$) bins, spanning the range $0.17<x_F<0.81$ and $1.7<p_{T}<6.0$ GeV/$c$. For fixed $x_F<0.47$, the asymmetries are found to rise with increasing transverse momentum. For larger $x_F$, the asymmetry flattens or falls as ${p_T}$ increases. Parametrizing the ratio $r(A) \equiv A_N(pA)/A_N(pp)=A^P$ over the kinematic range, the ratio $r(A)$ is found to depend only weakly on $A$, with ${\langle}P{\rangle} = -0.027 \pm 0.005$. No significant difference in $P$ is observed between the low-$p_T$ region, $p_T<2.5$ GeV/$c$, where gluon saturation effects may play a role, and the high-$p_T$ region, $p_T>2.5$ GeV/$c$. It is further observed that the value of $A_N$ is significantly larger for events with a large-$p_T$ isolated $π^0$ than for events with a non-isolated $π^0$ accompanied by additional jet-like fragments. The nuclear dependence $r(A)$ is similar for isolated and non-isolated $π^0$ events.

A disease that limits a plant from its maximal capacity is defined as plant disease. From the perspective of agriculture, diagnosing plant disease is crucial, as diseases often limit plants' production capacity. However, manual approaches to recognize plant diseases are often temporal, challenging, and time-consuming. Therefore, computerized recognition of plant diseases is highly desired in the field of agricultural automation. Due to the recent improvement of computer vision, identifying diseases using leaf images of a particular plant has already been introduced. Nevertheless, the most introduced model can only diagnose diseases of a specific plant. Hence, in this chapter, we investigate an optimal plant disease identification model combining the diagnosis of multiple plants. Despite relying on multi-class classification, the model inherits a multilabel classification method to identify the plant and the type of disease in parallel. For the experiment and evaluation, we collected data from various online sources that included leaf images of six plants, including tomato, potato, rice, corn, grape, and apple. In our investigation, we implement numerous popular convolutional neural network (CNN) architectures. The experimental results validate that the Xception and DenseNet architectures perform better in multi-label plant disease classification tasks. Through architectural investigation, we imply that skip connections, spatial convolutions, and shorter hidden layer connectivity cause better results in plant disease classification.

The cross sections and their ratios are sensitive to quark and antiquark parton distribution functions. In particular, at leading order, the $W$ cross-section ratio is sensitive to the $\bar{d}/\bar{u}$ ratio. These measurements were taken at high $Q^2 \sim M_W^2,M_Z^2$ and can serve as input into global analyses to provide constraints on the sea quark distributions. The results presented here combine three STAR data sets from 2011, 2012, and 2013, accumulating an integrated luminosity of 350 pb$^{-1}$. We also assess the expected impact that our $W^+/W^-$ cross-section ratios will have on various quark distributions, and find sensitivity to the $\bar{u}-\bar{d}$ and $\bar{d}/\bar{u}$ distributions.

The measured transparency was consistent with no $Q^2$ dependence, up to proton momenta of 8.5~GeV/c, ruling out the quantum chromodynamics effect of color transparency at the measured $Q^2$ scales in exclusive $(e,e'p)$ reactions. These results impose strict constraints on models of color transparency for protons.

Software behavioral models have proven useful for emulating and testing software systems. Many techniques have been proposed to infer behavioral models of software systems from their interaction traces. The quality of the inferred model is critical to its successful use. While generalization is necessary to deduce concise behavioral models, existing techniques of inferring models, in general, overgeneralize what behavior is valid. Imprecise models include many spurious behaviors, and thus compromise the effectiveness of their use. In this paper, we propose a novel technique that increases the accuracy of the behavioral model inferred from interaction traces. The essence of our approach is a heuristic-based generalization and truthful minimization. The set of heuristics include patterns to match input traces and generalize them towards concise model representations. Furthermore, we adopt a truthful minimization technique to merge these generalized traces. The key insight of our approach is to infer a concise behavioral model without compromising its accuracy. We present an empirical evaluation of how our approach improves upon the state-of-the-art specification inference techniques. The results show that our approach mines model with 100% precision and recall with a limited computation overhead.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), which is a neuro development disorder, is often accompanied by sensory issues such an over sensitivity or under sensitivity to sounds and smells or touch. Although its main cause is genetics in nature, early detection and treatment can help to improve the conditions. In recent years, machine learning based intelligent diagnosis has been evolved to complement the traditional clinical methods which can be time consuming and expensive. The focus of this paper is to find out the most significant traits and automate the diagnosis process using available classification techniques for improved diagnosis purpose. We have analyzed ASD datasets of Toddler, Child, Adolescent and Adult. We determine the best performing classifier for these binary datasets using the evaluation metrics recall, precision, F-measures and classification errors. Our finding shows that Sequential minimal optimization (SMO) based Support Vector Machines (SVM) classifier outperforms all other benchmark machine learning algorithms in terms of accuracy during the detection of ASD cases and produces less classification errors compared to other algorithms. Also, we find that Relief Attributes algorithm is the best to identify the most significant attributes in ASD datasets.

Abstract:
We report a comprehensive investigation of the triple perovskite iridate Ba$_{3}$CoIr$_{2}$O$_{9}$. Stabilizing in the hexagonal $P6_{3}/mmc$ symmetry at room temperature, this system transforms to a monoclinic $C2/c$ symmetry at the magnetic phase transition. On further reduction in temperature, the system partially distorts to an even lower symmetry ($P2/c$), with both these structurally dispara…

On further reduction in temperature, the system partially distorts to an even lower symmetry ($P2/c$), with both these structurally disparate phases coexisting down to the lowest measured temperatures. The magnetic structure as determined from neutron diffraction data indicates a weakly canted antiferromagnetic structure, which is also supported by first-principles calculations. Theory indicates that the Ir$^{5+}$ carries a finite magnetic moment, which is also consistent with the neutron data. This suggests that the putative $J=0$ state is avoided. Measurements of heat capacity, electrical resistance noise and dielectric susceptibility all point towards the stabilization of a highly correlated ground state in the Ba$_{3}$CoIr$_{2}$O$_{9}$ system.

Mental health is a global epidemic, affecting close to half a billion people worldwide. Chronic shortage of resources hamper detection and recovery of affected people. Effective sensing technologies can help fight the epidemic through early detection, prediction, and resulting proper treatment. Existing and novel technologies for sensing mental health state could address the aforementioned concerns by activating granular tracking of physiological, behavioral, and social signals pertaining to problems in mental health. Our paper focuses on the available methods of sensing mental health problems through direct and indirect measures. We see how active and passive sensing by technologies as well as reporting from relevant sources can contribute toward these detection methods. We also see available methods of therapeutic treatment available through digital means. We highlight a few key intervention technologies that are being developed by researchers to fight against mental illness issues.

This paper proposed an ensemble of deep convolutional neural networks (CNN) based on EfficientNet, named ECOVNet, to detect COVID-19 using a large chest X-ray data set. At first, the open-access large chest X-ray collection is augmented, and then ImageNet pre-trained weights for EfficientNet is transferred with some customized fine-tuning top layers that are trained, followed by an ensemble of model snapshots to classify chest X-rays corresponding to COVID-19, normal, and pneumonia. The predictions of the model snapshots, which are created during a single training, are combined through two ensemble strategies, i.e., hard ensemble and soft ensemble to ameliorate classification performance and generalization in the related task of classifying chest X-rays.
