This study explores the potential of using ride-hailing vehicles (RVs) for integrated passenger and freight transport based on shared mobility. In this crowd-sourced mode, ride-hailing platforms can profit from parcel delivery services, and logistics companies can reduce operational costs by utilizing the capacities of RVs. The Share-a-Ride problem with ride-hailing and logistic vehicles (SARP-RL) determines the number of logistic vehicles (LVs) and the assignment of passenger/parcel requests to RVs and LVs, aiming at maximizing the total RV profits and minimizing logistic costs. An exact solution framework is proposed by (1) generating a feasible trip that serves a given set of requests at maximal profits; (2) generating all feasible trips for the entire set of passenger and parcel requests via an efficient enumeration method; and (3) finding all Pareto-optimal solutions of the bi-objective problem via an $\varepsilon$-constraint method. Not only is the proposed method exact, it also converts the NP-hard problem to a simple vehicle-trip matching problem. More importantly, the total computational time can be compressed to an arbitrary degree via straightforward parallelization. A case study of the Manhattan network demonstrates the solution characteristics of SARP-RL. The results indicate that: (i) Coordinating RV and LV operations to serve passenger and parcel requests (SARP-RL) can simultaneously reduce logistic costs and increase RV profits. (ii) Key factors influencing the performance of SARP-RL include the RV fleet size, spatial distribution of parcel requests, passenger/parcel request ratio, and unit price of transport service, which are quantitatively analyzed to offer managerial insights for real-world implementation.

We report a first study of the semileptonic decay $D^0\rightarrow K^-π^0μ^{+}ν_μ$ by analyzing an $e^+e^-$ annihilation data sample of $7.9~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector. The absolute branching fraction of $D^0\to K^-π^0μ^{+}ν_μ$ is measured for the first time to be $(0.729 \pm 0.014_{\rm stat} \pm 0.011_{\rm syst})\%$. Based on an amplitude analysis, the $S\text{-}{\rm wave}$ contribution is determined to be $(5.76 \pm 0.35_{\rm stat} \pm 0.29_{\rm syst})\%$ of the total decay rate in addition to the dominated $K^{*}(892)^-$ component. The branching fraction of $D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ$ is given to be $(2.062 \pm 0.039_{\rm stat} \pm 0.032_{\rm syst})\%$, which improves the precision of the world average by a factor of 5. Combining with the world average of ${\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-e^+ν_e)$, the ratio of the branching fractions obtained is $\frac{{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ)}{{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-e^+ν_e)} = 0.96\pm0.08$, in agreement with lepton flavor universality. Furthermore, assuming single-pole dominance parameterization, the most precise hadronic form factor ratios for $D^0\to K^{*}(892)^{-} μ^+ν_μ$ are extracted to be $r_{V}=V(0)/A_1(0)=1.37 \pm 0.09_{\rm stat} \pm 0.03_{\rm syst}$ and $r_{2}=A_2(0)/A_1(0)=0.76 \pm 0.06_{\rm stat} \pm 0.02_{\rm syst}$.

Oriented object detection has been rapidly developed in the past few years, but most of these methods assume the training and testing images are under the same statistical distribution, which is far from reality. In this paper, we propose the task of domain generalized oriented object detection, which intends to explore the generalization of oriented object detectors on arbitrary unseen target domains. Learning domain generalized oriented object detectors is particularly challenging, as the cross-domain style variation not only negatively impacts the content representation, but also leads to unreliable orientation predictions. To address these challenges, we propose a generalized oriented object detector (GOOD). After style hallucination by the emerging contrastive language-image pre-training (CLIP), it consists of two key components, namely, rotation-aware content consistency learning (RAC) and style consistency learning (SEC). The proposed RAC allows the oriented object detector to learn stable orientation representation from style-diversified samples. The proposed SEC further stabilizes the generalization ability of content representation from different image styles. Extensive experiments on multiple cross-domain settings show the state-of-the-art performance of GOOD. Source code will be publicly available.

While random forests are commonly used for regression problems, existing methods often lack adaptability in complex situations or lose optimality under simple, smooth scenarios. In this study, we introduce the adaptive split balancing forest (ASBF), capable of learning tree representations from data while simultaneously achieving minimax optimality under the Lipschitz class. To exploit higher-order smoothness levels, we further propose a localized version that attains the minimax rate under the Hölder class $\mathcal{H}^{q,β}$ for any $q\in\mathbb{N}$ and $β\in(0,1]$. Rather than relying on the widely-used random feature selection, we consider a balanced modification to existing approaches. Our results indicate that an over-reliance on auxiliary randomness may compromise the approximation power of tree models, leading to suboptimal results. Conversely, a less random, more balanced approach demonstrates optimality. Additionally, we establish uniform upper bounds and explore the application of random forests in average treatment effect estimation problems. Through simulation studies and real-data applications, we demonstrate the superior empirical performance of the proposed methods over existing random forests.

The branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(η'\rightarrowπ^+π^-e^+e^-)=(2.45\pm0.02(\rm{stat.})\pm0.08(\rm{syst.})) \times10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(η'\rightarrowπ^+π^-μ^+μ^-)=(2.16\pm0.12(\rm{stat.})\pm0.06(\rm{syst.}))\times10^{-5}$, and the ratio is $\frac{\mathcal{B}(η'\rightarrowπ^{+}π^{-}e^{+}e^{-})}{\mathcal{B}(η'\rightarrowπ^{+}π^{-}μ^{+}μ^{-})} = 113.4\pm0.9(\rm{stat.})\pm3.7(\rm{syst.})$. In addition, by combining the $η'\rightarrowπ^+π^-e^+e^-$ and $η'\rightarrowπ^+π^-μ^+μ^-$ decays, the slope parameter of the electromagnetic transition form factor is measured to be $b_{η'}=1.30\pm0.19\ (\mathrm{GeV}/c^{2})^{-2}$, which is consistent with previous measurements from BESIII and theoretical predictions from the VMD model. The asymmetry in the angle between the $π^+π^-$ and $l^+l^-$ decay planes, which has the potential to reveal the $CP$-violation originating from an unconventional electric dipole transition, is also investigated. The asymmetry parameters are determined to be $\mathcal{A}_{CP}(η'\rightarrowπ^+π^-e^+e^-)=(-0.21\pm0.73(\rm{stat.})\pm0.01(\rm{syst.}))\%$ and $\mathcal{A}_{CP}(η'\rightarrowπ^+π^-μ^+μ^-)=(0.62\pm4.71(\rm{stat.})\pm0.08(\rm{syst.}))\%$, implying that no evidence of $CP$-violation is observed at the present statistics. Finally, an axion-like particle is searched for via the decay $η'\rightarrowπ^+π^-a, a\rightarrow e^+e^-$, and upper limits of the branching fractions are presented for the mass assumptions of the axion-like particle in the range of $0-500\ \mathrm{MeV}/c^{2}$.

The $D^+\to f_0(500)μ^+ν_μ$ decay is observed for the first time. By analyzing simultaneously the differential decay rates of $D^+\to f_0(500) μ^+ν_μ$ and $D^+\to f_0(500) e^+ν_e$ in different $\ell^+ν_\ell$ four-momentum transfer intervals, the product of the relevant hadronic form factor $f^{f_0}_{+}(0)$ and the magnitude of the $c\to d$ Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cd}|$ is determined to be $f_{+}^{f_0} (0)|V_{cd}|=0.0787\pm0.0060_{\rm stat}\pm0.0033_{\rm syst}$ for the first time. With the input of $|V_{cd}|$ from the global fit in the standard model, we determine $f_{+}^{f_0} (0)=0.350\pm0.027_{\rm stat}\pm0.015_{\rm syst}$. The absolute branching fractions of $D^+\to f_0(500)_{(π^+π^-)}μ^+ν_μ$ and $D^+\to ρ^0_{(π^+π^-)} μ^+ν_μ$ are determined as $(0.72\pm0.13_{\rm stat}\pm0.10_{\rm syst})\times10^{-3}$ and $(1.64\pm0.13_{\rm stat}\pm0.11_{\rm syst})\times 10^{-3}$. Combining these results with those of previous BESIII measurements on their semielectronic counterparts from the same data sample, we test lepton flavor universality by measuring the branching fraction ratios ${\mathcal B}_{D^+\to ρ^0 μ^+ν_μ}/{\mathcal B}_{D^+\to ρ^0 e^+ν_e}=0.88\pm0.10$ and ${\mathcal B}_{D^+\to f_0(500) μ^+ν_μ}/{\mathcal B}_{D^+\to f_0(500) e^+ν_e}=1.14\pm0.28$, which are compatible with the standard model expectation.

The robust generalization of deep learning models in the presence of inherent noise remains a significant challenge, especially when labels are subjective and noise is indiscernible in natural settings. This problem is particularly pronounced in many practical applications. In this paper, we address a special and important scenario of monitoring suicidal ideation, where time-series data, such as photoplethysmography (PPG), is susceptible to such noise. Current methods predominantly focus on image and text data or address artificially introduced noise, neglecting the complexities of natural noise in time-series analysis. To tackle this, we introduce a novel neural network model tailored for analyzing noisy physiological time-series data, named TNANet, which merges advanced encoding techniques with confidence learning, enhancing prediction accuracy. Another contribution of our work is the collection of a specialized dataset of PPG signals derived from real-world environments for suicidal ideation prediction. Employing this dataset, our TNANet achieves the prediction accuracy of 63.33% in a binary classification task, outperforming state-of-the-art models. Furthermore, comprehensive evaluations were conducted on three other well-known public datasets with artificially introduced noise to rigorously test the TNANet's capabilities. These tests consistently demonstrated TNANet's superior performance by achieving an accuracy improvement of more than 10% compared to baseline methods.

The measurements are performed at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.510 to 4.951 GeV. No significant evidence for the decay of the charmonium(-like) states, $ψ(3770)$, $ψ(4040)$, $ψ(4160)$, $Y(4230)$, $Y(4360)$, $ψ(4415)$, and $Y(4660)$, into a $Σ^{+}\barΣ^{-}$ final state is observed. Consequently, upper limits for the products of the branching fractions and the electronic partial widths at the 90% confidence level are reported for these decays.

The branching fractions of $η\rightarrowγe^+e^-$ and $η'\rightarrowγe^+e^-$ are measured to be $(7.07 \pm 0.05 \pm 0.23)\times10^{-3}$ and $(4.83\pm0.07\pm0.14)\times10^{-4}$, respectively. Within the single pole model, the parameter of electromagnetic transition form factor for $η\rightarrowγe^+e^-$ is determined to be $Λ_η=(0.749 \pm 0.027 \pm 0.007)~ {\rm GeV}/c^{2}$. Within the multi-pole model, we extract the electromagnetic transition form factors for $η'\rightarrowγe^+e^-$ to be $Λ_{η'} = (0.802 \pm 0.007\pm 0.008)~ {\rm GeV}/c^{2}$ and $γ_{η'} = (0.113\pm0.010\pm0.002)~ {\rm GeV}/c^{2}$. The results are consistent with both theoretical predictions and previous measurements. The characteristic sizes of the interaction regions for the $η$ and $η'$ are calculated to be $(0.645 \pm 0.023 \pm 0.007 )~ {\rm fm}$ and $(0.596 \pm 0.005 \pm 0.006)~ {\rm fm}$, respectively. In addition, we search for the dark photon in $η/η^\prime\rightarrowγe^{+}e^{-}$, and the upper limits of the branching fractions as a function of the dark photon are given at 90\% confidence level.

Clear signals are observed for the two reactions. The cross sections in $-0.9\leq\rm{cos}θ_{Λ/\barΛ}\leq0.9$ are measured to be $σ(Λp\rightarrowΛp)=(12.2\pm1.6_{\rm{stat}}\pm1.1_{\rm{sys}})$ mb and $σ(\barΛ p\rightarrow\barΛ p)=(17.5\pm2.1_{\rm{stat}}\pm1.6_{\rm{sys}})$ mb at the $Λ/\barΛ$ momentum of $1.074$ GeV/$c$ within a range of $\pm0.017$ GeV/$c$, where the $θ_{Λ/\barΛ}$ are the scattering angles of the $Λ/\barΛ$ in the $Λp/\barΛp$ rest frames. Furthermore, the differential cross sections of the two reactions are also measured, where there is a slight tendency of forward scattering for $Λp\rightarrowΛp$, and a strong forward peak for $\barΛp\rightarrow\barΛp$. We present an approach to extract the total elastic cross sections by extrapolation. The study of $\barΛp\rightarrow\barΛp$ represents the first study of antihyperon-nucleon scattering, and these new measurements will serve as important inputs for the theoretical understanding of the (anti)hyperon-nucleon interaction.

High-quality annotation of fine-grained visual categories demands great expert knowledge, which is taxing and time consuming. Alternatively, learning fine-grained visual representation from enormous unlabeled images (e.g., species, brands) by self-supervised learning becomes a feasible solution. However, recent researches find that existing self-supervised learning methods are less qualified to represent fine-grained categories. The bottleneck lies in that the pre-text representation is built from every patch-wise embedding, while fine-grained categories are only determined by several key patches of an image. In this paper, we propose a Cross-level Multi-instance Distillation (CMD) framework to tackle the challenge. Our key idea is to consider the importance of each image patch in determining the fine-grained pre-text representation by multiple instance learning. To comprehensively learn the relation between informative patches and fine-grained semantics, the multi-instance knowledge distillation is implemented on both the region/image crop pairs from the teacher and student net, and the region-image crops inside the teacher / student net, which we term as intra-level multi-instance distillation and inter-level multi-instance distillation. Extensive experiments on CUB-200-2011, Stanford Cars and FGVC Aircraft show that the proposed method outperforms the contemporary method by upto 10.14% and existing state-of-the-art self-supervised learning approaches by upto 19.78% on both top-1 accuracy and Rank-1 retrieval metric.

The design and optimization of cryogenic propellant storage tanks for NASA's future space missions require fast and accurate long-term fluid behavior simulations. CFD codes offer high fidelity but face prohibitive computational costs, whereas nodal codes are oversimplified and inadequate in scenarios involving prominent three-dimensional phenomenon, such as thermal stratification. Hence, an equation-free based data-driven coupling (EFD) approach is developed to couple CFD and nodal codes for efficient and accurate integrated analysis. The EFD approach, as a concurrent coupling scheme, modifies the equation-free modeling and adapted the data-driven approaches. It utilizes the CFD simulation results within a short co-solved period to generate equation-free correlations through the data-driven approach. The nodal code then solves the problem with the obtained correlations, producing "CFD-like" solutions. This paper implements the EFD approach using the ANSYS Fluent and the CRTech SINDA/FLUINT to investigate two-phase cryogenic tank self-pressurization and periodic mixing problems. The EFD approach diminishes the stratified temperature predictions errors in the top region by 89.1% and 98.9%, reducing computational time by 70% and 52%, respectively. The EFD minimizes the risks of numerical instability and inherent correlation loss compared to previous coupling methods, making it a flexible and easy-to-apply approach for CFD and nodal code integrated analysis.

A quantum limit on the measurement of magnetic field has been recently pointed out, stating that the so-called Energy Resolution $E_\mathrm{R}$ is bounded to $E_\mathrm{R} \gtrsim \hbar$. This limit holds indeed true for the vast majority of existing quantum magnetometers, including SQUIDs, solid state spins and optically pumped atomic magnetometers. However, it can be surpassed by highly correlated spin systems, as recently demonstrated with a single-domain spinor Bose-Einstein Condensate. Here we show that similar and potentially much better resolution can be achieved with a hard ferromagnet levitated above a superconductor at cryogenic temperature. We demonstrate $E_\mathrm{R}=\left( 0.064 \pm 0.010 \right) \, \hbar$ and anticipate that $E_\mathrm{R}<10^{-3} \, \hbar$ is within reach with near-future improvements. This finding opens the way to new applications in condensed matter, biophysics and fundamental science. In particular, we propose an experiment to search for axionlike dark matter and project a sensitivity orders of magnitude better than in previous searches.

Interpersonal relationship quality is pivotal in social and occupational contexts. Existing analysis of interpersonal relationships mostly rely on subjective self-reports, whereas objective quantification remains challenging. In this paper, we propose a novel social relationship analysis framework using spatio-temporal patterns derived from dyadic EEG signals, which can be applied to quantitatively measure team cooperation in corporate team building, and evaluate interpersonal dynamics between therapists and patients in psychiatric therapy. First, we constructed a dyadic-EEG dataset from 72 pairs of participants with two relationships (stranger or friend) when watching emotional videos simultaneously. Then we proposed a deep neural network on dyadic-subject EEG signals, in which we combine the dynamic graph convolutional neural network for characterizing the interpersonal relationships among the EEG channels and 1-dimension convolution for extracting the information from the time sequence. To obtain the feature vectors from two EEG recordings that well represent the relationship of two subjects, we integrate deep canonical correlation analysis and triplet loss for training the network. Experimental results show that the social relationship type (stranger or friend) between two individuals can be effectively identified through their EEG data.

Develo** superior quantum sensing strategies ranging from ultra-high precision measurement to complex structural analysis is at the heart of quantum technologies. While strategies using quantum resources, such as entanglement among sensors, to enhance the sensing precision have been abundantly demonstrated, the signal correlation among quantum sensors is rarely exploited. Here we develop a novel sensing paradigm exploiting the signal correlation among multiple quantum sensors to resolve overlap** signals from multiple targets that individual sensors can't resolve and complex structural construction struggles with. With three nitrogen-vacancy centers as a quantum electrometer system, we demonstrate this multi-sensor paradigm by resolving individual defects' fluctuating electric fields from ensemble signals. We image the three-dimensional distribution of 16 dark electronic point-defects in diamond with accuracy approaching 1.7 nm via a GPS-like localization method. Furthermore, we obtain the real-time charge dynamics of individual point defects and visualize how the dynamics induce the well-known optical spectral diffusion. The multi-sensor paradigm extends the quantum sensing toolbox and offers new possibilities for structural analysis.

The complex correlated charge density wave (CDW) phases of 1T-TaS2 have attracted great attention due to their emergent quantum states, such as intricate CDW phase, Mott-Hubbard state, superconductivity and quantum spin liquid. The delicate interplay among the complex intra-/inter-layer electron-electron and electron-lattice interactions is the fundamental prerequisite of these exotic quantum states. Here, we report a real-space titration-like investigation of correlated CDW state in 1T-TaS2 upon hole-do** via low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (LT-STM). The gradual increased hole-do** results in the sequential emergence of electron voids, phase domains, stacking disordering and mixed phase/chiral domains attributed to the reduced electron correlations. The achiral intermediate ring-like clusters and nematic CDW states emerge at the intralayer chiral domain wall and interlayer heterochiral stacking regions via the chiral-overlap** configurations. The local reversible CDW manipulation is further realized by the non-equilibrium transient charge-injections of STM field-emission spectra. Our results provide an in-depth insight of this intricate correlated CDW state, and pave a way to realize exotic quantum states via the accurate tuning of interior interactions in correlated materials.

Resonance fluorescence (RF) of a two-level emitter displays persistently anti-bunching irrespective of the excitation intensity, but inherits the driving laser's linewidth under weak excitation. These properties are commonly explained disjoinedly as the emitter's single photon saturation or passively scattering light, until a recent theory attributes anti-bunching to the laser-like spectrum's interference with the incoherently scattered light. However, the theory implies higher-order scattering processes, and led to an experiment purporting to validate an atom's simultaneous scattering of two photons. If true, it could complicate RF's prospects in quantum information applications. Here, we propose a unified model that treats all RF photons as spontaneous emission, one at a time, and can explain simultaneously both the RF's spectral and correlation properties. We theoretically derive the excitation power dependencies, with the strongest effects measurable at the single-photon incidence level, of the first-order coherence of the whole RF and super-bunching of the spectrally filtered, followed by experimental confirmation on a semiconductor quantum dot micro-pillar device. Furthermore, our model explains peculiar coincidence bunching observed in phase-dependent two-photon interference experiments. Our work provides novel understandings of coherent light-matter interaction and may stimulate new applications.

Revealing the essence of dark matter (DM) and dark energy is essential for understanding our universe. Ultralight (rest energy $<$10 eV) bosonic particles, including pseudoscalar axions and axion-like particles (ALPs) have emerged among leading candidates to explain the composition of DM and searching for them has become an important part of precision-measurement science. Ultrahigh-sensitivity alkali-noble-gas based comagnetometers and magnetometers are being used as powerful haloscopes, i.e., devices designed to search for DM present in the galactic halo. A broad variety of such devices include clock-comparison comagnetometers, self-compensating comagnetometers, hybrid-spin-resonance magnetometer, spin-exchange-relaxation-free magnetometers, nuclear magnetic-resonance magnetometers, Floquet magnetometers, masers, as well as devices like the cosmic axion spin-precession experiment (CASPEr) using liquid $^{129}$Xe, prepolarized via spin-exchange optical pum** with rubidium atoms. The combination of alkali metal and noble gas allows one to take the best advantage of the complementary properties of the two spin systems. This review summarizes the operational principles, experimental setups and the successful explorations of new physics using these haloscopes. Additionally, some limiting factors are pointed out for further improvement.

Non-zero cross sections are observed very close to the production threshold. The measured Born cross sections of $e^+e^-\to Λ_{c}^+ \barΛ_{c}(2625)^- + \rm{c.c.}$ are about $2\sim3$ times greater than those of $e^+e^-\to Λ_{c}^+ \barΛ_{c}(2595)^- + \rm{c.c.}$, thereby indicating that the exotic structure potentially exists in the excited charmed baryons. The Born cross sections are $15.6\pm3.1\pm0.9$ pb and $29.4\pm3.7\pm2.7$ pb for $e^+e^-\to Λ_{c}^+ \barΛ_{c}(2595)^- + \rm{c.c.}$, and are $43.4\pm4.0\pm4.1$ pb and $76.8\pm6.5\pm4.2$ pb for $e^+e^-\to Λ_{c}^+ \barΛ_{c}(2625)^- +\rm{c.c.}$ at $\sqrt s=4918.0$ and 4950.9 MeV, respectively. Based on the polar angle distributions of the $\barΛ_{c}(2625)^-$ and $Λ_{c}(2625)^+$, the form-factor ratios $\sqrt{|G_{E}|^2 + 3|G_{M}|^2}/|G_{C}|$ are determined for $e^+e^-\to Λ_{c}^+ \barΛ_{c}(2625)^- + \rm{c.c.}$ for the first time, which are $5.95\pm4.07\pm0.15$ and $0.94\pm0.32\pm0.02$ at $\sqrt s=4918.0$ and 4950.9 MeV, respectively. All of these first uncertainties are statistical and second systematic.

Carbon stars are excellent kinematic tracers of galaxies and play important roles in understanding the evolution of the Galaxy. Therefore, it is worthwhile to search for them in a large amount of spectra. In this work, we build a new carbon star catalog based on the LAMOST DR7 spectra. The catalog contains 4542 spectra of 3546 carbon stars, identified through line index and near-infrared color-color diagrams. Through visual inspection of the spectra, we further subclassify them into 925 C--H, 384 C--R, 608 C--N, and 1292 Ba stars. However, 437 stars could not be sub-classified due to their low signal-to-noise. Moreover, by comparing with LAMOST DR7 pipeline we find 567 more carbon stars and visually sub-classify them. We find that on the $J-H$ vs. $H-K_{\rm s}$ two-color diagram, C--N stars can be reliably distinguished from the other three sub-types. Additionally, by utilizing the Gaia distance, we study the distribution of carbon stars in the H-R diagram and identify 258 dwarf carbon stars by the criterion $M_{\rm G}>$5.0\,mag. Finally, we present the spatial distribution in Galactic coordinates of the 3546 carbon stars. The majority of C-N, C-R, and Ba stars are distributed at low Galactic latitudes, while most C--H and dC stars distribute at high Galactic latitudes.

Highly ambitious initiatives aspire to propel a miniature spacecraft to a neighboring star within a human generation, leveraging the radiation pressure of lasers for propulsion. One of the main challenges to achieving this enormous feat is to build a meter-scale, ultra-low mass lightsail with broadband reflectivity. In this work, we present the design and fabrication of such a lightsail composed of two distinct dielectric layers and patterned with a photonic crystal structure covering a 4" wafer. We overcome the crucial challenge of achieving broad band reflection of >70% spanning over the full Doppler-shifted laser wavelength range during spacecraft acceleration, in combination with low total mass in the range of a few grams when scaled to meter size. Furthermore, we find new paths to reliably fabricate these sub-wavelength structures over macroscopic areas and then systematically characterize their optical performance, confirming their suitability for future lightsail applications. Our innovative device design and precise nanofabrication approaches represent a significant leap toward interstellar exploration.

With the obtained amplitude model, the $CP$-even fractions of $D^0\to π^+π^-π^+π^-$ and $D^0\toπ^+π^-π^0π^0$(non-$η$) are determined to be $(75.2\pm1.1_{\rm stat.}\pm1.5_{\rm syst.})\%$ and $(68.9\pm1.5_{\rm stat.}\pm 2.4_{\rm syst.})\%$, respectively. The branching fractions of $D^0\to π^+π^-π^+π^-$ and $D^0\toπ^+π^-π^0π^0$(non-$η$) are measured to be $(0.688\pm0.010_{\rm stat.}\pm 0.010_{\rm syst.})\%$ and $(0.951\pm0.025_{\rm stat.}\pm 0.021_{\rm syst.})\%$, respectively. Many exotic electronic states were discovered in moire superlattices hosted in twisted homo-bilayers in the past decade, including unconventional superconductivity and correlated insulating states. However, it is technically challenging to precisely and orderly stack two or more layers into certain twisting angles. Here, we presented a theoretical strategy that introduces moire superlattices in untwisted homo-bilayers by applying different in-plane strains on the two layers of a graphene homo-bilayer, respectively. Our density functional theory calculations indicate that the graphene bilayer exhibits substantial out-of-plane corrugations that form a coloring-triangular structure in each moire supercell under gradient in-plane strains. Such structure leads to a set of kagome bands, namely one flat-band and, at least, one Dirac band, develo** along the M-K path after band-folding. For comparison, uniformly applied in-plane strain only yields a nearly flat band within path K-G, which is originated from local quantum confinement. These findings highlight the gradient strain as a route to feasibly fabricate exotic electronic states in untwisted flexible homo-bilayers.

Vehicle-based mobile sensing, also known as drive-by sensing, efficiently surveys urban environments at low costs by leveraging the mobility of urban vehicles. While recent studies have focused on drive-by sensing for fleets of a single type, our work explores the sensing power and cost-effectiveness of a mixed fleet that consists of vehicles with distinct and complementary mobility patterns. We formulate the drive-by sensing coverage (DSC) problem, proposing a method to quantify sensing utility and an optimization procedure that determines fleet composition, sensor allocation, and vehicle routing for a given budget. Our air quality sensing case study in Longquanyi District (Chengdu, China) demonstrates that using a mixed fleet enhances sensing utilities and achieves close approximations to the target sensing distribution at a lower cost. Generalizing these insights to two additional real-world networks, our regression analysis uncovers key factors influencing the sensing power of mixed fleets. This research provides quantitative and managerial insights into drive-by sensing, showcasing a positive externality of urban transport activities.

Here we report the discovery of an unconventional 2D vdW multiferroic with out-of-plane ferroelectric polarization and long-range magnetic orders in trilayer NiI2 device from 10 K to 295 K. The evolutions of magnetic domains with magnetic field, and the evolutions between ferroelectric and antiferroelectric phase have been unambiguously observed. More significantly, we realize a robust mutual control of magnetism and ferroelectricity at room temperature. The magnetic domains are manipulated by a small voltage ranging from 1 V to 6 V at 0 T and 295 K. This work opens opportunities for exploring multiferroic physics at the limit of few atomic layers.

Visual programming, a modular and generalizable paradigm, integrates different modules and Python operators to solve various vision-language tasks. Unlike end-to-end models that need task-specific data, it advances in performing visual processing and reasoning in an unsupervised manner. Current visual programming methods generate programs in a single pass for each task where the ability to evaluate and optimize based on feedback, unfortunately, is lacking, which consequentially limits their effectiveness for complex, multi-step problems. Drawing inspiration from benders decomposition, we introduce De-fine, a general framework that automatically decomposes complex tasks into simpler subtasks and refines programs through auto-feedback. This model-agnostic approach can improve logical reasoning performance by integrating the strengths of multiple models. Our experiments across various visual tasks show that De-fine creates more accurate and robust programs, setting new benchmarks in the field.

Navigating drones through natural language commands remains challenging due to the dearth of accessible multi-modal datasets and the stringent precision requirements for aligning visual and textual data. To address this pressing need, we introduce GeoText-1652, a new natural language-guided geo-localization benchmark. This dataset is systematically constructed through an interactive human-computer process leveraging Large Language Model (LLM) driven annotation techniques in conjunction with pre-trained vision models. GeoText-1652 extends the established University-1652 image dataset with spatial-aware text annotations, thereby establishing one-to-one correspondences between image, text, and bounding box elements. We further introduce a new optimization objective to leverage fine-grained spatial associations, called blending spatial matching, for region-level spatial relation matching. Extensive experiments reveal that our approach maintains a competitive recall rate comparing other prevailing cross-modality methods. This underscores the promising potential of our approach in elevating drone control and navigation through the seamless integration of natural language commands in real-world scenarios.

The development of large language models (LLMs) has greatly advanced the field of multimodal understanding, leading to the emergence of large multimodal models (LMMs). In order to enhance the level of visual comprehension, recent studies have equipped LMMs with region-level understanding capabilities by representing object bounding box coordinates as a series of text sequences (pix2seq). In this paper, we introduce a novel paradigm for object location modeling called pix2emb method, where we ask the LMM to output the location embeddings and then decode them with different decoders. This paradigm allows us to use different location formats (such as bounding boxes and masks) in multimodal conversations. Leveraging the proposed pix2emb method, we train an LMM named NExT-Chat and demonstrate its capability of handling multiple tasks like visual grounding, region captioning, and grounded reasoning. Comprehensive experiments show the effectiveness of our NExT-Chat on various tasks, e.g., NExT-Chat (87.7) vs. Shikra (86.9) on POPE-Random, NExT-Chat (68.9) vs. LISA (67.9) on referring expression segmentation task, and NExT-Chat (79.6) vs. Kosmos-2 (62.3) on region caption task. We study the magnetic field structures in six giant filaments associated with the spiral arms of the Milky Way by applying the Velocity Gradient technique (VGT) to the 13CO spectroscopic data from GRS, Fugin, and SEDIGSM surveys. Compared to dust polarized emission, the VGT allows us to separate the foreground and background using the velocity information, from which the orientation of the magnetic field can be reliably determined. We find that in most cases, the magnetic fields stay aligned with the filament bodies, which are parallel to the disk midplane. Among these, G29, G47, and G51 exhibit smooth magnetic fields, and G24, G339, and G349 exhibit discontinuities. The fact that most filaments have magnetic fields that stay aligned with the Galactic disk midplane suggests that Galactic shear can be responsible for sha** the filaments. The fact that the magnetic field can stay regular at the resolution of our analysis (<= 10 pc) where the turbulence crossing time is short compared to the shear time suggests that turbulent motion can not effectively disrupt the regular orientation of the magnetic field. The discontinuities found in some filaments can be caused by processes including filament reassembly, gravitational collapse, and stellar feedback.

Multi-agent systems driven by large language models (LLMs) have shown promising abilities for solving complex tasks in a collaborative manner. This work considers a fundamental problem in multi-agent collaboration: consensus seeking. When multiple agents work together, we are interested in how they can reach a consensus through inter-agent negotiation. To that end, this work studies a consensus-seeking task where the state of each agent is a numerical value and they negotiate with each other to reach a consensus value. It is revealed that when not explicitly directed on which strategy should be adopted, the LLM-driven agents primarily use the average strategy for consensus seeking although they may occasionally use some other strategies. Moreover, this work analyzes the impact of the agent number, agent personality, and network topology on the negotiation process. The findings reported in this work can potentially lay the foundations for understanding the behaviors of LLM-driven multi-agent systems for solving more complex tasks. Furthermore, LLM-driven consensus seeking is applied to a multi-robot aggregation task. This application demonstrates the potential of LLM-driven agents to achieve zero-shot autonomous planning for multi-robot collaboration tasks. The reasoning capabilities of LLM (Large Language Model) are widely acknowledged in recent research, inspiring studies on tool learning and autonomous agents. LLM serves as the "brain" of the agent, orchestrating multiple tools for collaborative multi-step task solving. Unlike methods invoking tools like calculators or weather APIs for straightforward tasks, multi-modal agents excel by integrating diverse AI models for complex challenges. However, current multi-modal agents neglect the significance of model selection: they primarily focus on the planning and execution phases, and will only invoke predefined task-specific models for each subtask, making the execution fragile. Meanwhile, other traditional model selection methods are either incompatible with or suboptimal for the multi-modal agent scenarios, due to ignorance of dependencies among subtasks arising by multi-step reasoning. To this end, we identify the key challenges therein and propose the $\textit{M}^3$ framework as a plug-in with negligible runtime overhead at test-time. This framework improves model selection and bolsters the robustness of multi-modal agents in multi-step reasoning. In the absence of suitable benchmarks, we create MS-GQA, a new dataset specifically designed to investigate the model selection challenge in multi-modal agents. Our experiments reveal that our framework enables dynamic model selection, considering both user inputs and subtask dependencies, thereby robustifying the overall reasoning process. Many causal estimands are only partially identifiable since they depend on the unobservable joint distribution between potential outcomes. Stratification on pretreatment covariates can yield sharper partial identification bounds; however, unless the covariates are discrete with relatively small support, this approach typically requires consistent estimation of the conditional distributions of the potential outcomes given the covariates. Thus, existing approaches may fail under model misspecification or if consistency assumptions are violated. In this study, we propose a unified and model-agnostic inferential approach for a wide class of partially identified estimands, based on duality theory for optimal transport problems. In randomized experiments, our approach can wrap around any estimates of the conditional distributions and provide uniformly valid inference, even if the initial estimates are arbitrarily inaccurate. Also, our approach is doubly robust in observational studies. Notably, this property allows analysts to use the multiplier bootstrap to select covariates and models without sacrificing validity even if the true model is not included. Furthermore, if the conditional distributions are estimated at semiparametric rates, our approach matches the performance of an oracle with perfect knowledge of the outcome model. Finally, we propose an efficient computational framework, enabling implementation on many practical problems in causal inference.

Radiation hardening of the MOSFET is of the highest priority for sustaining high-power systems in the space radiation environment. SiC-based power electronics are being looked at as a strong alternative for high power spaceborne power electronic systems. The SiC MOSFET has been shown to be most prone to SEB of the radiation effects. The knowledge of SiC MOSFET device degradation and failure mechanisms are reviewed. Additionally, the viability of rad-tolerant SiC MOSFET designs and the methods of SEB simulation are evaluated. A merit system is proposed to consider the performance of radiation tolerance and nominal electrical performance. Criteria needed for high-fidelity SEB simulation are also reviewed. This paper stands as a necessary analytical review to intercede the development of rad-hard power devices for space and extreme environment applications.

Panoptic Scene Graph Generation (PSG) involves the detection of objects and the prediction of their corresponding relationships (predicates). However, the presence of biased predicate annotations poses a significant challenge for PSG models, as it hinders their ability to establish a clear decision boundary among different predicates. This issue substantially impedes the practical utility and real-world applicability of PSG models. To address the intrinsic bias above, we propose a novel framework to infer potentially biased annotations by measuring the predicate prediction risks within each subject-object pair (domain), and adaptively transfer the biased annotations to consistent ones by learning invariant predicate representation embeddings. Experiments show that our method significantly improves the performance of benchmark models, achieving a new state-of-the-art performance, and shows great generalization and effectiveness on PSG dataset.

The $Σ^{+}$ hyperons are produced by the collisions of $Λ$ hyperons from $J/ψ$ decays with nuclei in the material of the BESIII detector. The total cross section of $Λ+ ^{9}{\rm Be} \rightarrow Σ^+ + X$ is measured to be $σ= (37.3 \pm 4.7 \pm 3.5)~{\rm mb}$ at $Λ$ beam momenta within $[1.057, 1.091]~{\rm GeV}/c$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. This analysis is the first study of $Λ$-nucleon interactions at an $e^+ e^-$ collider, providing information and constraints relevant for the strong-interaction potential, the origin of color confinement, the unified model for baryon-baryon interactions, and the internal structure of neutron stars.

Referring Image Understanding (RIS) has been extensively studied over the past decade, leading to the development of advanced algorithms. However, there has been a lack of research investigating how existing algorithms should be benchmarked with complex language queries, which include more informative descriptions of surrounding objects and backgrounds (\eg \textit{"the black car."} vs. \textit{"the black car is parking on the road and beside the bus."}). Given the significant improvement in the semantic understanding capability of large pre-trained models, it is crucial to take a step further in RIS by incorporating complex language that resembles real-world applications. To close this gap, building upon the existing RefCOCO and Visual Genome datasets, we propose a new RIS benchmark with complex queries, namely \textbf{RIS-CQ}. The RIS-CQ dataset is of high quality and large scale, which challenges the existing RIS with enriched, specific and informative queries, and enables a more realistic scenario of RIS research. Besides, we present a nichetargeting method to better task the RIS-CQ, called dual-modality graph alignment model (\textbf{\textsc{DuMoGa}}), which outperforms a series of RIS methods.

Experiments aimed at detecting ultralight dark matter typically rely on resonant effects, which are sensitive to the dark matter mass that matches the resonance frequency. In this study, we investigate the nucleon couplings of ultralight axion dark matter using a magnetometer operating in a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) mode. Our approach involves the use of a $^{21}$Ne spin-based sensor, which features the lowest nuclear magnetic moment among noble-gas spins. This configuration allows us to achieve an ultrahigh sensitivity of 0.73 fT/Hz$^{1/2}$ at around 5 Hz, corresponding to energy resolution of approximately 1.5$\times
10^{-23}\,\rm{eV/Hz^{1/2}}$. Our analysis reveals that under certain conditions it is beneficial to scan the frequency with steps significantly larger than the resonance width. The analytical results are in agreement with experimental data and the scan strategy is potentially applicable to other resonant searches. Further, our study establishes stringent constraints on axion-like particles (ALP) in the 4.5--15.5 Hz Compton-frequency range coupling to neutrons and protons, improving on prior work by several-fold. Within a band around 4.6--6.6 Hz and around 7.5 Hz, our laboratory findings surpass astrophysical limits derived from neutron-star cooling. Hence, we demonstrate an accelerated resonance search for ultralight dark matter, achieving an approximately 30-fold increase in scanning step while maintaining competitive sensitivity.

Identifying intrinsic noncollinear magnetic order in monolayer van der Waals (vdW) crystals is highly desirable for understanding the delicate magnetic interactions at reduced spatial constraints and miniaturized spintronic applications, but remains elusive in experiments. Here, we achieved spin-resolved imaging of helimagnetism at atomic scale in monolayer NiI2 crystals, that were grown on graphene-covered SiC(0001) substrate, using spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy. Our experiments identify the existence of a spin spiral state with canted plane in monolayer NiI2. The spin modulation Q vector of the spin spiral is determined as (0.2203, 0, 0), which is different from its bulk value or its in-plane projection, but agrees well with our first principles calculations. The spin spiral surprisingly indicates collective spin switching behavior under magnetic field, whose origin is ascribed to the incommensurability between the spin spiral and the crystal lattice. Our work unambiguously identifies the helimagnetic state in monolayer NiI2, paving the way for illuminating its expected type-II multiferroic order and develo** spintronic devices based on vdW magnets.

While recently Multimodal Large Language Models (MM-LLMs) have made exciting strides, they mostly fall prey to the limitation of only input-side multimodal understanding, without the ability to produce content in multiple modalities. As we humans always perceive the world and communicate with people through various modalities, develo** any-to-any MM-LLMs capable of accepting and delivering content in any modality becomes essential to human-level AI. To fill the gap, we present an end-to-end general-purpose any-to-any MM-LLM system, NExT-GPT. We connect an LLM with multimodal adaptors and different diffusion decoders, enabling NExT-GPT to perceive inputs and generate outputs in arbitrary combinations of text, images, videos, and audio. By leveraging the existing well-trained highly-performing encoders and decoders, NExT-GPT is tuned with only a small amount of parameter (1%) of certain projection layers, which not only benefits low-cost training and also facilitates convenient expansion to more potential modalities. Moreover, we introduce a modality-switching instruction tuning (MosIT) and manually curate a high-quality dataset for MosIT, based on which NExT-GPT is empowered with complex cross-modal semantic understanding and content generation. Overall, our research showcases the promising possibility of building an AI agent capable of modeling universal modalities, paving the way for more human-like AI research in the community. We present the dynamics study toward the G326.611+0.811 (G326) hub-filament-system (HFS) cloud using the new APEX observations of both $^{13}$CO and C$^{18}$O (J = 2-1). The G326 HFS cloud constitutes a central hub and at least four hub-composing filaments that are divided into a major branch of filaments (F1, and F2) and a side branch (F3-F5). The cloud holds ongoing high-mass star formation as characterised by three massive dense clumps (i.e., 370-1100 $M_{\odot}$ and 0.14-0.16 g cm$^{-2}$ for C1-C3) with the high clump-averaged mass infalling rates ($>10^{-3}$ $M_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$) within in the major filament branch, and the associated point sources bright at 70 $μ$m typical of young protostars. Along the five filaments, the velocity gradients are found in both $^{13}$CO and C$^{18}$O (J = 2-1) emission, suggesting that the filament-aligned gravitational collapse toward the central hub (i.e., C2) is being at work for high-mass star formation therein. Moreover, a periodic velocity oscillation along the major filament branch is revealed in both $^{13}$CO and C$^{18}$O (J = 2-1) emission with a characteristic wavelength of $\sim$3.5 pc and an amplitude of $\sim$0.31-0.38 km s$^{-1}$. We suggest that this pattern of velocity oscillation in G326 could arise from the clump-forming gas motions induced by gravitational instability. Taking into account the prevalent velocity gradients, the fragmentation of the major branch of filaments, and the ongoing collapse of the three massive dense clumps, it is indicative that G326 is a HFS undergoing global collapse.
