Quantum study of supersymmetric theories on Euclidean two dimensional anti-de Sitter space (EAdS$_2$) requires complexified spectrum. For a chiral multiplet, we showed that the spectrum of the Dirac operator acquires a universal shift of $\text{i}/2$ from the real spectrum to make the supersymmetry between boson and fermion manifest, where both the bosonic and fermionic eigenfunctions are normalizable using an appropriate definition of Euclidean inner product. We extend this analysis to the vector multiplet, where we show that the gaugino requires both $+\text{i}/2$ and $-\text{i}/2$ shift from the real spectrum, and there is additional isolated point at vanishing spectral parameter which is mapped by supersymmetry to the boundary zero modes of the vector field. Furthermore, this spectral analysis shows that not every bosonic fields in the vector multiplet can satisfy normalizable boundary condition. Nevertheless, aided by a reorganization of fields into a cohomological form, we find the supersymmetry map** between bosons and fermions in terms of the expansion coefficients with respect to the newly constructed basis.

Compact and robust frequency-stabilized laser sources are critical for a variety of fields that require stable frequency standards, including field spectroscopy, radio astronomy, microwave generation, and geophysical monitoring. In this work, we applied a simple and compact fiber ring-resonator configuration that can stabilize both a continuous-wave laser and a self-referenced optical frequency comb to a vibration-insensitive optical fiber delay-line. We could achieve a thermal-noise-limited frequency noise level in the 10 Hz - 1 kHz offset frequency range for both the continuous-wave laser and the optical frequency comb with the minimal frequency instability of 2.7x10-14 at 0.03-s and 2.6x10-14 at 0.01-s averaging time, respectively, in non-vacuum condition. The optical fiber spool, working as a delay reference, is designed to be insensitive to external vibration, with a vibration sensitivity of sub-10-10 [1/g] and volume of 32 mL. Finally, the ring-resonator setup is packaged in a palm-sized aluminum case with 171-mL volume with a vibration-insensitive spool, as well as an even smaller 97-mL-volume case with an ultra-compact 9-mL miniaturized fiber spool.

Quantum study of supersymmetric theories on Euclidean two dimensional anti-de Sitter space (AdS$_2$) is invalid if we use the standard normalizable functional basis due to its incompatibility with supersymmetry. We cure this problem by demonstrating that supersymmetry requires complexified spectrum and constructing the supersymmetric basis for scalar and spinor fields. Our new basis is free of fermionic zero modes, delta-function normalizable with respect to a newly defined inner product, and compatible with the supersymmetric asymptotic boundary condition. We also explore the one-loop evaluation using this basis and show that it agrees with the standard nonsupersymmetric basis up to a global contribution arising from the fermion zero mode.

Application of the supersymmetric localization method to theories on anti-de Sitter spacetime has received recent interest, yet still remains as a challenging problem. In this paper, we focus on (global) Euclidean AdS$_2$, on which we consider an Abelian ${\cal N}=(2,2)$ theory and implement localization computation to obtain the exact partition function. For comparison, we also revisit the theory on S$^2$ and perform a parallel computation. We refine the notion of equivariant supersymmetry and use appropriate functional integration measure. For AdS$_2$ we choose a supersymmetric boundary condition which is compatible with the principle of variation. To evaluate the 1-loop determinant about the localization saddle, we use index theory and fixed point formula, where we pay attention to the effect of zero modes and their superpartners. The existence of fermionic superpartner of 1-form boundary zero modes is proven. Obtaining the 1-loop determinant requires expansion of the index that presents an ambiguity, which we resolve using boundary condition. The resulting partition function reveals an overall dependence on the size of the background manifold, AdS$_2$ as well as S$^2$, as a sum of two types of contributions: a local one from local conformal anomaly through the index computation and a global one coming from zero modes. This overall size dependence is confirmed by the perturbative 1-loop evaluation using heat kernel method.

We begin to develop the formalism of localization for the functional integral of supergravity on $AdS_3 \times S^2$. We show how the condition of supersymmetry in the Euclidean $\mathbb{H}^3/\mathbb{Z} \times S^2$ geometry naturally leads to a twist of the S$^2$ around the time direction of $AdS_3$. The twist gives us a five-dimensional Euclidean supergravity background dual to the elliptic genus of $(0,4)$ SCFT$_2$ at the semiclassical level. On this background we set up the off-shell BPS equations for one of the Killing spinors, such that the functional integral of five-dimensional Euclidean supergravity on $\mathbb{H}^3/\mathbb{Z} \times S^2$ localizes to its space of solutions. We obtain a class of solutions to these equations by lifting known off-shell BPS solutions of 4-dimensional supergravity on $AdS_2 \times S^2$. In order to do this consistently, we construct and use a Euclidean version of the off-shell 4d/5d lift of arxiv:1112.5371, which could be of independent interest.

Robust multi-level spin memory with the ability to write information electrically is a long-sought capability in spintronics, with great promise for applications. Here we achieve nonvolatile and highly energy-efficient magnetization switching in a single-material device formed of van-der-Waals topological ferromagnet Fe3GeTe2, whose magnetic information can be readily controlled by a tiny current. Furthermore, the switching current density and power dissipation are about 400 and 4000 times smaller than those of the existing spin-orbit-torque magnetic random access memory based on conventional magnet/heavy-metal systems. Most importantly, we also demonstrate multi-level states, switched by electrical current, which can dramatically enhance the information capacity density and reduce computing costs. Thus, our observations combine both high energy efficiency and large information capacity density in one device, showcasing the potential applications of the emerging field of van-der-Waals magnets in the field of spin memory and spintronics.

We use localization to compute the partition function of a four dimensional, supersymmetric, abelian gauge theory on a hemisphere coupled to charged matter on the boundary. Our theory has eight real supercharges in the bulk of which four are broken by the presence of the boundary. The main result is that the partition function is identical to that of ${\mathcal N}=2$ abelian Chern-Simons theory on a three-sphere coupled to chiral multiplets, but where the quantized Chern-Simons level is replaced by an arbitrary complexified gauge coupling $τ$. The localization reduces the path integral to a single ordinary integral over a real variable. This integral in turn allows us to calculate the scaling dimensions of certain protected operators and two-point functions of abelian symmetry currents at arbitrary values of $τ$. Because the underlying theory has conformal symmetry, the current two-point functions tell us the zero temperature conductivity of the Lorentzian versions of these theories at any value of the coupling. We comment on S-dualities which relate different theories of supersymmetric graphene. We identify a couple of self-dual theories for which the complexified conductivity associated to the U(1) gauge symmetry is $τ/2$.

Extending the concept of steerability for quantum states, channel steerability is an ability to remotely control the given channel from a coherently extended party. Verification of channel steering can be understood as certifying coherence of the channel in an one-sided-device-independent manner with respect to a bystander. Here we propose a method to verify channel steering in a measurement-device-independent way. To do this, we first obtain Choi matrices from given channels and use canonical method of measurement-device-independent verification of quantum steering. As a consequence, exploiting channel-state duality which interconverts steerability of channels and that of states, channel steering is verified. We further analyze the effect of imperfect preparation of entangled states used in the verification protocol, and find that threshold of the undesired noise that we can tolerate is bounded from below by steering robustness.

A heat capacity Schottky anomaly is present over the whole do** range. For the samples with $x > 0.5$, these Schottky anomaly peaks shift to lower temperature with increasing $H_{\textrm{ext}}$. We argue that this behavior reflects the antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering of the Eu moments, as the AFM transition is suppressed by $H_{\textrm{ext}}$. The Schottky peaks in the samples with $x \leq 0.5$ shift to higher temperatures with increasing magnetic field, signaling the presence of an internal magnetic field due to short-range AFM correlations induced by magnetic moments of neighboring Eu sites. In low $H_{\textrm{ext}}$, the Schottky gaps show a non-linear relationship with $H_{\textrm{ext}}$ as the magnetic moments become weakly magnetized. In high $H_{\textrm{ext}}$, the magnetic moments of Eu sites become completely aligned with $H_{\textrm{ext}}$. Thus, increasing $H_{\textrm{ext}}$ does not further increase the magnetization, hence the Schottky gaps increase linearly with $H_{\textrm{ext}}$

We propose a method to verify quantum steering for two qubit states with an arbitrary amount of null results when both the steering and steered parties cannot be trusted. We converted the steering inequality proposed in a recent article [Phys.~Rev.~X {\bf 2}, 031003 (2012)] to a corresponding measurement-device-independent steering criterion that depends on the heralding efficiency of the steering party, number of measurement settings, and imperfection of the state preparation. As a result, for a relative frequency of valid measurement outcomes $η_H$, the steering can be verified using a number of different measurement settings larger than $1/η_H$ and maximally entangled states. Furthermore, steerability is guaranteed as long as the measurement efficiency of the steered party is non-zero. Our result is useful for loss-tolerant and measurement-device-independent steering tasks.

We develop the formalism of supersymmetric localization in supergravity using the deformed BRST algebra defined in the presence of a supersymmetric background as recently formulated in arxiv:1806.03690. The gravitational functional integral localizes onto the cohomology of a global supercharge $Q_\text{eq}$, obeying $Q_\text{eq}^2=H$, where $H$ is a global symmetry of the background. Our construction naturally produces a twisted version of supergravity whenever supersymmetry can be realized off-shell. We present the details of the twisted graviton multiplet and ghost fields for the superconformal formulation of four-dimensional N=2 supergravity. As an application of our formalism, we systematize the computation of the exact quantum entropy of supersymmetric black holes. In particular, we compute the one-loop determinant of the $Q_\text{eq} \mathcal{V}$ deformation operator for the off-shell fluctuations of the Weyl multiplet around the $AdS_2 \times S^2$ saddle. This result, which is consistent with the corresponding large-charge on-shell analysis, is needed to complete the first-principles computation of the quantum entropy.

Motivated by current research efforts towards exploring the interplay between magnetism and superconductivity in multiband electronic systems, we have investigated the effects of Eu substitution through thermodynamic measurements on the superconducting filled skutterudite alloys Pr$_{1-x}$Eu$_x$Pt$_4$Ge$_{12}$. An increase in Eu concentration leads to a suppression of the superconducting transition temperature consistent with an increase of magnetic entropy due to Eu local moments. While the low-temperature heat capacity anomaly is present over the whole do** range, we find that in alloys with $x\leq0.5$ the Schottky peaks in the heat capacity in the superconducting state appear to be due to Zeeman splitting by an internal magnetic field. Our theoretical modeling suggests that this field is a result of the short-range antiferromagnetic correlations between the europium ions. Electrical resistivity measurements on non-fluorinated La$_{0.80}$Ti$_{0.20}$OBiS$_2$ and La$_{0.85}$Th$_{0.15}$OBiS$_2$ superconductors were performed between $\sim$1.5 K and 300 K and under pressure up to 2.4 GPa. For both compounds, the superconducting transition temperature $T_c$, which is $\sim$2.9 K at ambient pressure, gradually increases with pressure to 3.2-3.7 K at $\sim$1 GPa, above which it is suppressed and the superconducting transitions become very broad. Measurements of the normal state electrical resistivity of the two compounds reveal discontinuous changes of the resistivity as a function of pressure at $\sim$0.6 GPa. Surprisingly, above 1.3 GPa, semiconducting-like behavior reappears in La$_{0.80}$Ti$_{0.20}$OBiS$_2$. This study reveals a new high-pressure phase of La$_{1-x}$$M$$_x$OBiS$_2$ containing the tetravalent ions $M$ = Ti, Th which does not favor superconductivity. In contrast, application of pressure to fluorinated LaO$_0.5$F$_0.5$BiS$_2$ produces an abrupt tetragonal-monoclinic transition to a metallic phase with an enhanced $T_c$. These results demonstrate that the response of the normal and superconducting properties of LaOBiS$_2$-based compounds depends strongly on the atomic site where the electron donor ions are substituted.

We find that an increase in Ce concentration leads to a suppression of the superconducting transition temperature from $T_{c}\sim 7.9$ K for $x=0$ to $T_c\sim 0.6$ K for $x=0.14$. Our analysis of the specific heat data for $x\leq 0.07$ reveals that superconductivity must develop in at least two bands: the superconducting order parameter has nodes on one Fermi pocket and remains fully gapped on the other. Both the nodal and nodeless gap values decrease, with the nodal gap being suppressed more strongly, with Ce substitution. Ultimately, the higher Ce concentration samples ($x>0.07$) display a nodeless gap only.

Prominent lattice-commensurate low-energy excitations characteristic of the HO phase vanish in the AFM phase. The magnetic scattering is dominated by strong excitations along the Brillouin zone edges, underscoring the important role of electron hybridization to both HO and AFM phases, and the similarity of the underlying electronic structure. Our results show that the paramagnetic (PM) to HO and LMAFM phase transitions are manifested differently in the thermal expansion coefficient. For Fe concentrations near the boundary between the HO and LMAFM phases at $x_c$ ~ 0.1, we observe two features in the thermal expansion upon cooling, one that appears to be associated with the transition from the PM to the HO phase and another one at lower temperature that may be due to the transition from the HO to the LMAFM phase. These two features have not been observed in other measurements such as specific heat or neutron scattering. In addition, the uniaxial pressure derivative of the transition temperature, based on a calculation using thermal expansion and specific heat data, changes dramatically when crossing from the HO to the LMAFM phase.

We report a study of the superconducting and normal-state properties of the filled-skutterudite system PrPt$_{4}$Ge$_{12-x}$Sb$_x$. Polycrystalline samples with Sb concentrations up to $x =$ 5 were synthesized and investigated by means of x-ray diffraction, electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat measurements. We observed a suppression of superconductivity with increasing Sb substitution up to $x =$ 4, above which, no signature of superconductivity was observed down to 140 mK. The Sommerfeld coefficient, $γ$, of superconducting specimens decreases with increasing $x$ up to $x =$ 3, suggesting that superconductivity may depend on the density of electronic states in this system. The specific heat for $x =$ 0.5 exhibits an exponential temperature dependence in the superconducting state, reminiscent of a nodeless superconducting energy gap. We observed evidence for a weak "rattling" mode associated with the Pr ions, characterized by an Einstein temperature $Θ_{\mathrm{E}} \sim$ 60 K for 0 $\leq x \leq$ 5; however, the rattling mode may not play any role in suppressing superconductivity.

In a completely systematic and geometric way, we derive maximal and half-maximal supersymmetric gauged double field theories in lower than ten dimensions. To this end, we apply a simple twisting ansatz to the $D=10$ ungauged maximal and half-maximal supersymmetric double field theories constructed previously within the so-called semi-covariant formalism. The twisting ansatz may not satisfy the section condition. Nonetheless, all the features of the semi-covariant formalism, including its complete covariantizability, are still valid after the twist under alternative consistency conditions. The twist allows gaugings as supersymmetry preserving deformations of the $D=10$ untwisted theories after Scherk-Schwarz-type dimensional reductions. The maximal supersymmetric twist requires an extra condition to ensure both the Ramond-Ramond gauge symmetry and the $32$ supersymmetries unbroken.

We use the techniques of supersymmetric localization to compute the BPS black hole entropy in N=2 supergravity. We focus on the n_v+1 vector multiplets on the black hole near horizon background which is AdS_2 x S^2 space. We find the localizing saddle point of the vector multiplets by solving the localization equations, and compute the exact one loop partition function on the saddle point. Furthermore, we propose the appropriate functional integration measure. Through this measure, the one loop determinant is written in terms of the radius of the physical metric, which depends on the localizing saddle point value of the vector multiplets. The result for the one loop determinant is consistent with the logarithmic corrections to the BPS black hole entropy from vector multiplets.

We present the effect of yttrium substitution on superconductivity in the La$_{1-\textit{x}}$Y$_{\textit{x}}$O$_{0.5}$F$_{0.5}$BiS$_{2}$ system. Polycrystalline samples with nominal Y concentrations up to 40% were synthesized and characterized via electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, and specific heat measurements. Y substitution reduces the lattice parameter \textit{a} and unit cell volume \textit{V}, and a correlation between the lattice parameter \textit{c}, the La-O-La bond angle, and the superconducting critical temperature $T_c$ is observed. The chemical pressure induced by Y substitution for La produces neither the high-$T_c$ superconducting phase nor the structural phase transition seen in LaO$_{0.5}$F$_{0.5}$BiS$_{2}$ under externally applied pressure.

Measurements of electrical resistivity were performed between 3 and 300 K at various pressures up to 2.8 GPa on the BiS2-based superconductors LnO0.5F0.5BiS2 (Ln = Pr, Nd). At lower pressures, PrO0.5F0.5BiS2 and NdO0.5F0.5BiS2 exhibit superconductivity with critical temperatures Tc of 3.5 and3.9 K, respectively. As pressure is increased, both compounds undergo a transition at a pressure Pt from a low Tc superconducting phase to a high Tc superconducting phase in which Tc reaches maximum values of 7.6 and 6.4 K for PrO0.5F0.5BiS2 and NdO0.5F0.5BiS2, respectively. The pressure-induced transition is characterized by a rapid increase in Tc within a small range in pressure of ~0.3 GPa for both compounds. In the normal state of PrO0.5F0.5BiS2, the transition pressure Pt correlates with the pressure where the suppression of semiconducting behaviour saturates. In the normal state of NdO0.5F0.5BiS2, Pt is coincident with a semiconductor-metal transition. This behaviour is similar to the results recently reported for the LnO0.5F0.5BiS2 (Ln = La, Ce) compounds. We observe that Pt and the size of the jump in Tc between the two superconducting phases both scale with the lanthanide element in LnO0.5F0.5BiS2 (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Nd).

We consider periodic arrays of M2-branes in the ABJM model in the spirit of a circle compactification to D2-branes in type IIA string theory. The result is a curious formulation of three-dimensional maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in terms of fermions, seven transverse scalars, a non-dynamical gauge field and an additional scalar `dual gluon'. Upon further T-duality on a transverse torus we obtain a non-manifest-Lorentz-invariant description of five-dimensional maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills. Here the additional scalar field can be thought of as the components of a two-form along the torus. This action can be viewed as an M-theory description of M5-branes on ${\mathbb T}^3$.

They feature a pair of vielbeins corresponding to the same spacetime metric, and hence enjoy double local Lorentz symmetries. In a manifestly covariant manner --with regard to O(D,D) T-duality, diffeomorphism, B-field gauge symmetry and the pair of local Lorentz symmetries-- we incorporate R-R potentials into double field theory. We take them as a single object which is in a bi-fundamental spinorial representation of the double Lorentz groups. We identify cohomological structure relevant to the field strength. A priori, the R-R sector as well as all the fermions are O(D,D) singlet. Yet, gauge fixing the two vielbeins equal to each other modifies the O(D,D) transformation rule to call for a compensating local Lorentz rotation, such that the R-R potential may turn into an O(D,D) spinor and T-duality can flip the chirality exchanging type IIA and IIB supergravities.

For each kind, we construct corresponding covariant Dirac operators. Further, we develop a corresponding vielbein formalism and gauge the internal symmetry which is given by a direct product of two local Lorentz groups, SO(1,D-1) times SO(1,D-1). We comment that the notion of cosmological constant naturally changes.

We investigate the isobar of an ideal Bose gas confined in a cubic box within the grand canonical ensemble, for a large yet finite number of particles, N. After solving the equation of the spinodal curve, we derive precise formulae for the supercooling and the superheating temperatures which reveal an N^{-1/3} or N^{-1/4} power correction to the known Bose-Einstein condensation temperature in the thermodynamic limit. Numerical computations confirm the accuracy of our analytical approximation, and further show that the isobar zigzags on the temperature-volume plane if N is greater than or equal to 14393. In particular, for the Avogadro's number of particles, the volume expands discretely about 10^5 times. Our results quantitatively agree with a previous study on the canonical ensemble within 0.1% error.

In terms of undoubled component fields, it couples a usual Yang-Mills gauge field to an additional one-form field and also to the closed string background fields which consist of a dilaton, graviton and a two-form gauge field. As elementary objects they are all 1/2-BPS, and multiple intersections of $n$-branes generically break the supersymmetry into $1/2^n$, as it is well known. But a particular composite of M-branes can preserve from 1/16 up to 3/4 of the original ${\cal N}=8$ supersymmetries as previously discovered. In this paper we provide the M-theory interpretation for various BPS equations, and also present explicit solutions to some 1/2-BPS equations.
