Non-involutive solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation of multipermutation level 2
Abstract: We study non-degenerate set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation of multipermutation level 2 which are not 2-reductive. We describe an effective way of constructing such solutions using square-free 2-reductive solutions and two bijections. We present an algorithm how to obtain all such finite solutions, up to isomorphism. Using this algorithm, we enumerate all solutions of multipermutat… ▽ More

Diagonals of solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation
Abstract: We study the diagonal map**s in non-involutive set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation. We show that, for non-degenerate solutions, they are commuting bijections. This gives the positive answer to the question: ``Is every non-degenerate solution bijective?'' of Cedó, Jespers and Verwimp. Additionally, we show that for a subclass of solutions called k-permutational, only one-sided non… ▽ More

Skew left braces and 2-reductive solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation
Abstract: We study 2-reductive non-involutive non-degenerate set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation. We give a combinatorial construction of any such solution of any (even infinite) size. We also prove that solutions associated to a skew left brace are 2-reductive if and only if the skew left brace is nilpotent of class 2. Moreover, all such skew left braces are actually bi-skew left braces. We… ▽ More

Tilt angle measurement with a Gaussian-shaped laser beam tracking
Abstract: We have addressed the challenge to carry out the angular tilt stabilization of a laser guiding mirror which is intended to route a laser beam with a high energy density. Such an application requires good angular accuracy as well as large operating range, long term stability and absolute positioning. We have designed an instrument for such a high precision angular tilt measurement based on a triang… ▽ More

Automatic unit for measuring refractive index of air based on Ciddor equation and its verification using direct interferometric measurement method
Abstract: In scanning probe microscopy laser interferometers are usually used for measuring the position of the probe tip with a metrological traceability. As the most of the AFM setups are designed to work under standard atmospheric conditions the changes of the refractive index of air have an influence to measured values of the length with 1.0e-4 relatively. In order to achieve better accuracies the refra… ▽ More

Degeneracy in epilepsy: Multiple Routes to Hyperexcitable Brain Circuits and their Repair
Abstract: Develo** effective therapies against epilepsy remains a challenge. The complex and multifaceted nature of this disease still fuels controversies about its origin. In this perspective article, we argue that conflicting hypotheses can be reconciled by taking into account the degeneracy of the brain, which manifests in multiple routes leading to similar function or dysfunction. Pareto optimality, economy-effectiveness trade-offs and ion channel degeneracy: Improving population models of neurons
Abstract: Nerve cells encounter unavoidable evolutionary trade-offs between multiple tasks. They must consume as little energy as possible (be energy-efficient or economical) but at the same time fulfil their functions (be functionally effective). Neurons displaying best performance for such multi-task trade-offs are said to be Pareto optimal. However, it is not understood how ion channel parameters contrib… ▽ More

Central nilpotency of skew braces
Abstract: Skew braces are algebraic structures related to the solutions of the set-theoretic quantum Yang-Baxter equation. We develop the central nilpotency theory for such algebraic structures in the sense of Freese-McKenzie \cite{comm} and we compare the universal algebraic notion of central nilpotency with the notion of right and left $*$-nilpotency developed in \cite{NilpotentType}.

In particular, we show that there is no one-to-one correspondence between indecomposable cocyclic solutions and cocyclic braces which contradicts recent results in \cite{Rump21}.

Abstract: We investigate a class of non-involutive solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation which generalize self-distributive (derived) solutions. In particular, we study generalized multipermutation solutions in this class. We show that the Yang-Baxter (permutation) groups of such solutions are nilpotent. We formulate the results in the language of biracks.

Nilpotency in automorphic loops of prime power order
Abstract: A loop is automorphic if its inner map**s are automorphisms. Using so-called associated operations, we show that every commutative automorphic loop of odd prime power order is centrally nilpotent. Starting with anisotropic planes in the vector space of $2\times 2$ matrices over the field of prime order $p$, we construct a family of automorphic loops of order $p^3$ with trivial center.
