Measurement of the branching fraction of the decay $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η$

Abstract: A high precision measurement of the branching fraction of the decay $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η$ is performed using $(10 087 \pm 44) \times 10^6$ $J/ψ$ events recorded by the {BESIII} detector at the {BEPCII} storage ring. The branching fractions of the two decays $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to γγ)$ and $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to π^+ π^- π^0)$ are measured individually to be… ▽ More A high precision measurement of the branching fraction of the decay $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η$ is performed using $(10 087 \pm 44) \times 10^6$ $J/ψ$ events recorded by the {BESIII} detector at the {BEPCII} storage ring. The branching fractions of the two decays $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to γγ)$ and $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to π^+ π^- π^0)$ are measured individually to be $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to γγ)) = (1.480 \pm 0.001 \pm 0.024)\times\,10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to π^+ π^- π^0)) = (1.557 \pm 0.003 \pm 0.038)\times\,10^{-3}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Both results are compatible within their uncorrelated systematic uncertainties. The combined result is $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η)=(1.495 \pm 0.001 \pm 0.023)\times\,10^{-3}$ where the first uncertainty is the combined statistical uncertainty and the second one the combined systematic uncertainty of both analyses, incorporating correlations between them. In addition, the $p \bar{p}$ threshold region is investigated for a potential threshold enhancement, and no evidence for one is observed. △ Less

Obtaining $(ε,δ)$-differential privacy guarantees when using a Poisson mechanism to synthesize contingency tables

Abstract: We show that differential privacy type guarantees can be obtained when using a Poisson synthesis mechanism to protect counts in contingency tables. Specifically, we show how to obtain $(ε, δ)$-probabilistic differential privacy guarantees via the Poisson distribution's cumulative distribution function. Abstract: Analyzing $e^+e^-$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $7.33~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226~GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the branching fraction of the semileptonic decay $D^+_{s}\to K^0 e^+ν_e$ to be $(2.98\pm0.23\pm0.12)\times10^{-3}$. The $D_s^+\to K^0$ hadronic form factor is determined from the differential decay rate of $D^+_s\to K^0 e^+ν_e$ to be $f^{K^0}_+(0)=0.636\pm0.049\pm0.013$. For both measurements, the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. Using graph neural networks to reconstruct charged pion showers in the CMS High Granularity Calorimeter

Abstract: A novel method to reconstruct the energy of hadronic showers in the CMS High Granularity Calorimeter (HGCAL) is presented. The HGCAL is a sampling calorimeter with very fine transverse and longitudinal granularity. The active media are silicon sensors and scintillator tiles readout by SiPMs and the absorbers are a combination of lead and Cu/CuW in the electromagnetic section, and steel in the hadr… ▽ More A novel method to reconstruct the energy of hadronic showers in the CMS High Granularity Calorimeter (HGCAL) is presented. The HGCAL is a sampling calorimeter with very fine transverse and longitudinal granularity. The active media are silicon sensors and scintillator tiles readout by SiPMs and the absorbers are a combination of lead and Cu/CuW in the electromagnetic section, and steel in the hadronic section. The shower reconstruction method is based on graph neural networks and it makes use of a dynamic reduction network architecture. It is shown that the algorithm is able to capture and mitigate the main effects that normally hinder the reconstruction of hadronic showers using classical reconstruction methods, by compensating for fluctuations in the multiplicity, energy, and spatial distributions of the shower's constituents. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated using test beam data collected in 2018 prototype of the CMS HGCAL accompanied by a section of the CALICE AHCAL prototype. The capability of the method to mitigate the impact of energy leakage from the calorimeter is also demonstrated. △ Less

Observation of $η_{c}$(1S, 2S) and $χ_{cJ}$ decays to 2$(π^{+}π^{-})η$ via $ψ$(3686) radiative transitions

Abstract: Based on $2.7 \times 10^9~ψ(3686)$ decays collected with the BESIII detector, the radiative decay $ψ(3686)\to\gamma2(π^{+}π^{-})η$ is investigated to measure properties of S- and P-wave charmonium states. The branching fraction of the decay $η_{c}(1S) \to 2(π^{+}π^{-})η$, which is found to have a strong dependence on the interference pattern between $η_c(1S)$ and non-$η_c(1S)$ processes, is measur… ▽ More Based on $2.7 \times 10^9~ψ(3686)$ decays collected with the BESIII detector, the radiative decay $ψ(3686)\to\gamma2(π^{+}π^{-})η$ is investigated to measure properties of S- and P-wave charmonium states. The branching fraction of the decay $η_{c}(1S) \to 2(π^{+}π^{-})η$, which is found to have a strong dependence on the interference pattern between $η_c(1S)$ and non-$η_c(1S)$ processes, is measured in both destructive and constructive interference scenarios for the first time. The mass and width of the $η_{c}(1S)$ are measured to be $M=(2984.14 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.38)$ MeV/$c^{2}$ and $Γ=(28.82 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.82)$ MeV, respectively. Clear signals for the decays of the $χ_{cJ}(J=0,1,2)$ and the $η_{c}(2S)$ to $2(π^{+}π^{-})η$ are also observed for the first time, and the corresponding branching fractions are measured. The ratio of the branching fractions between the $η_{c}(2S)$ and $η_{c}(1S)$ decays is significantly lower than the theoretical prediction, which might suggest different dynamics in their decays. △ Less

An Effective-Efficient Approach for Dense Multi-Label Action Detection

To address this challenging task, it is necessary to simultaneously learn (i) temporal dependencies and (ii) co-occurrence action relationships. Recent approaches model temporal information by extracting multi-scale features through hierarc… ▽ More Unlike the sparse label action detection task, where a single action occurs in each timestamp of a video, in a dense multi-label scenario, actions can overlap. To address this challenging task, it is necessary to simultaneously learn (i) temporal dependencies and (ii) co-occurrence action relationships. Recent approaches model temporal information by extracting multi-scale features through hierarchical transformer-based networks. However, the self-attention mechanism in transformers inherently loses temporal positional information. We argue that combining this with multiple sub-sampling processes in hierarchical designs can lead to further loss of positional information. Preserving this information is essential for accurate action detection. In this paper, we address this issue by proposing a novel transformer-based network that (a) employs a non-hierarchical structure when modelling different ranges of temporal dependencies and (b) embeds relative positional encoding in its transformer layers. Furthermore, to model co-occurrence action relationships, current methods explicitly embed class relations into the transformer network. However, these approaches are not computationally efficient, as the network needs to compute all possible pair action class relations. We also overcome this challenge by introducing a novel learning paradigm that allows the network to benefit from explicitly modelling temporal co-occurrence action dependencies without imposing their additional computational costs during inference. We evaluate the performance of our proposed approach on two challenging dense multi-label benchmark datasets and show that our method improves the current state-of-the-art results. △ Less

Strong and weak $CP$ tests in sequential decays of polarized $Σ^0$ hyperons

Abstract: We present a measurement of the integrated luminosity of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at a center-of-mass energy of $E_{\rm cm} = 3.773$~GeV. Abstract: Based on $(2712.4\pm 14.3)\times10^{6}$ $ψ(3686)$ events, we investigate four hadronic decay modes of the $P$-wave charmonium spin-singlet state $h_c(^1P_1) \to h^+ h^- π^0/η$ ($h=π$ or $K$) via the process $ψ(3686) \to π^{0}h_c$ at BESIII. The $h_c \to π^+ π^- π^0$ decay is observed with a significance of 9.6$σ$ after taking into account systematic uncertainties. The branching fractions of these decays are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(h_c \to π^+ π^- π^0)=(1.36\pm0.16\pm0.14)\times10^{-3}$, $\mathcal{B}(h_c \to K^+ K^- π^0)=(3.26\pm0.84\pm0.36)\times10^{-4}$, and $\mathcal{B}(h_c \to K^+ K^- η)=(3.13\pm1.08\pm0.38)\times10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. Audio-Visual Talker Localization in Video for Spatial Sound Reproduction

In many media production use cases, both cameras and microphones are employed to make recordings, and the human voice is often a key element. In this research, we detect and locate the active speaker in the video, facilitating the automatic extraction of the positional metadata of the talker relative to the camera's reference frame. With the integration of the visual modality, this study expands upon our previous investigation focused solely on audio-based active speaker detection and localization. Our experiments compare conventional audio-visual approaches for active speaker detection that leverage monaural audio, our previous audio-only method that leverages multichannel recordings from a microphone array, and a novel audio-visual approach integrating vision and multichannel audio. We found the role of the two modalities to complement each other. Multichannel audio, overcoming the problem of visual occlusions, provides a double-digit reduction in detection error compared to audio-visual methods with single-channel audio. The combination of multichannel audio and vision further enhances spatial accuracy, leading to a four-percentage point increase in F1 score on the Tragic Talkers dataset. Future investigations will assess the robustness of the model in noisy and highly reverberant environments, as well as tackle the problem of off-screen speakers. △ Less

The branching fractions of $h_c\rightarrowγη^\prime$ and $h_c\rightarrowγη$ are measured to be $(1.40\pm0.11\pm0.04\pm0.10)\times10^{-3}$ and $(3.77\pm0.55\pm0.13\pm0.26)\times10^{-4}$, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second systematic, and the third from the branching fraction of $ψ(3686)\rightarrowπ^{0}h_c$. The ratio $R_{h_c}=\frac{\mathscr{B}(h_c\rightarrowγη)}{\mathscr{B}(h_c\rightarrowγη^\prime)}$ is calculated to be $(27.0\pm4.4\pm1.0)\%$. The measurements are consistent with the previous results with improved precision by a factor of 2. The results are valuable for gaining a deeper understanding of $η-η^\prime$ mixing, and its manifestation within quantum chromodynamics. No significant signal is found for the decay $h_c\rightarrowγπ^{0}$, and an upper limit is placed on its branching fraction of $\mathscr{B}(h_c\rightarrowγπ^{0})<5.0\times10^{-5}$, at the 90\% confidence level. △ Less

CoLeaF: A Contrastive-Collaborative Learning Framework for Weakly Supervised Audio-Visual Video Parsing

Abstract: Weakly supervised audio-visual video parsing (AVVP) methods aim to detect audible-only, visible-only, and audible-visible events using only video-level labels. Existing approaches tackle this by leveraging unimodal and cross-modal contexts. However, we argue that while cross-modal learning is beneficial for detecting audible-visible events, in the weakly supervised scenario, it negatively impacts… ▽ More Weakly supervised audio-visual video parsing (AVVP) methods aim to detect audible-only, visible-only, and audible-visible events using only video-level labels. Existing approaches tackle this by leveraging unimodal and cross-modal contexts. However, we argue that while cross-modal learning is beneficial for detecting audible-visible events, in the weakly supervised scenario, it negatively impacts unaligned audible or visible events by introducing irrelevant modality information. In this paper, we propose CoLeaF, a novel learning framework that optimizes the integration of cross-modal context in the embedding space such that the network explicitly learns to combine cross-modal information for audible-visible events while filtering them out for unaligned events. Additionally, as videos often involve complex class relationships, modelling them improves performance. However, this introduces extra computational costs into the network. Our framework is designed to leverage cross-class relationships during training without incurring additional computations at inference. Furthermore, we propose new metrics to better evaluate a method's capabilities in performing AVVP. Our extensive experiments demonstrate that CoLeaF significantly improves the state-of-the-art results by an average of 1.9% and 2.4% F-score on the LLP and UnAV-100 datasets, respectively. △ Less

Abstract: Using 9.0 $\rm fb^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected at center-of-mass energies from 4.178 to 4.278 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we perform the first search for the radiative transition $χ_{c1}(3872)\toγψ_2(3823)$. Fast \textit{ab initio} design of high-entropy magnetic thin films

Abstract: We show that the magnetic properties of high-entropy alloys (HEAs) can be captured by \textit{ab initio} calculations within the coherent potential approximation, where the atomic details of the high-entropy mixing are considered as an effective medium that possesses the translational symmetry of the lattice. This is demonstrated using the face-centered cubic (FCC) phase of $\textrm{FeCoNiMnCu}$ a… ▽ More We show that the magnetic properties of high-entropy alloys (HEAs) can be captured by \textit{ab initio} calculations within the coherent potential approximation, where the atomic details of the high-entropy mixing are considered as an effective medium that possesses the translational symmetry of the lattice. This is demonstrated using the face-centered cubic (FCC) phase of $\textrm{FeCoNiMnCu}$ and the $L1_0$ phase of $\textrm{(FeCoNiMnCu)Pt}$ by comparing the density functional theory (DFT) results with the experimental values. Working within the first Brillouin zone and the primitive unit cell, we show that DFT can capture the smooth profile of magnetic properties such as the saturation magnetization, the Curie temperature and the magnetic anisotropy, using only a sparse set of sampling points in the vast compositional space. The smooth profiles given by DFT indeed follow the experimental trend, demonstrating the promising potential of using machine learning to explore the magnetic properties of HEAs, by establishing reasonably large datasets with high-throughput calculations using density-functional theory. △ Less

With the $e^+e^-\toωX(3872)$ process, the branching fraction ratio $R\equiv\frac{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\toγJ/ψ)}{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\toπ^+π^- J/ψ)}$ is measured to be $0.38\pm0.20_\text{stat.}\pm0.01_\text{syst.}$ ($R< 0.83$ at 90\% confidence level). In addition, we measure the ratio of the average cross section of $e^+e^-\toωX(3872)$ to $e^+e^-\toωχ_{c1}(ωχ_{c2})$ to be $σ_{ωX(3872)}/σ_{ωχ_{c1}}~(σ_{ωX(3872)}/σ_{ωχ_{c2}})=5.2\pm1.0_\text{stat.}\pm1.9_\text{syst.}~ (5.5\pm1.1_\text{stat.}\pm2.4_\text{syst.})$. Finally, we search for the process of $e^+e^-\toγX(3872)$, and no obvious signal is observed. The study site is dominated by dynamic grassland vegetation and is thus visually ambiguous and liable to drastic appearance change over the course of a day and especially through the growing season. This dynamism and complexity in appearance seriously impact the stability of the robotics platform, as localisation is a foundational part of that control loop, and so routes must be carefully taught and retaught until autonomy is robust and repeatable. Our system is demonstrated over a 6-week period monitoring the response of grass species to experimental climate change manipulations. Abstract: We report the first amplitude analysis of the decays $D^{0} \to π^{+} π^{-} η$ and $D^{+} \rightarrow π^{+}π^{0}η$ using a data sample taken with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.9 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$. The contribution from the process $D^{0(+)} \to a_{0}(980)^{+} π^{-(0)}$ is significantly larger than the… ▽ More We report the first amplitude analysis of the decays $D^{0} \to π^{+} π^{-} η$ and $D^{+} \rightarrow π^{+}π^{0}η$ using a data sample taken with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.9 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$. The contribution from the process $D^{0(+)} \to a_{0}(980)^{+} π^{-(0)}$ is significantly larger than the $D^{0(+)} \to a_{0}(980)^{-(0)} π^{+}$ contribution. The ratios $\mathcal{B}(D^{0} \rightarrow a_{0}(980)^{+}π^{-})/\mathcal{B}(D^{0} \rightarrow a_{0}(980)^{-}π^{+})$ and $\mathcal{B}(D^{+} \rightarrow a_{0}(980)^{+}π^{0})/\mathcal{B}(D^{+} \rightarrow a_{0}(980)^{0}π^{+})$ are measured to be $7.5^{+2.5}_{-0.8\,\mathrm{stat.}}\pm1.7_{\mathrm{syst.}}$ and $2.6\pm0.6_{\mathrm{stat.}}\pm0.3_{\mathrm{syst.}}$, respectively. The measured $D^{0}$ ratio disagrees with the theoretical predictions by orders of magnitudes, thus implying a substantial contribution from final-state interactions. △ Less

By requiring the $e^{+}e^{-}$ invariant mass to be consistent with a $φ(1020)$, $0.98<M(e^{+}e^{-})<1.04$ ~GeV/$c^2$, the decay… ▽ More Using 7.33~fb$^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data collected by the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies in the range of $\sqrt{s}=4.128 - 4.226$~GeV, we search for the rare decays $D_{s}^+\to h^+(h^{0})e^{+}e^{-}$, where $h$ represents a kaon or pion. By requiring the $e^{+}e^{-}$ invariant mass to be consistent with a $φ(1020)$, $0.98<M(e^{+}e^{-})<1.04$ ~GeV/$c^2$, the decay $D_s^+\toπ^+φ,φ\to e^{+}e^{-}$ is observed with a statistical significance of 7.8$σ$, and evidence for the decay $D_s^+\toρ^+φ,φ\to e^{+}e^{-}$ is found for the first time with a statistical significance of 4.4$σ$. The decay branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\toπ^+φ, φ\to e^{+}e^{-} )=(1.17^{+0.23}_{-0.21}\pm0.03)\times 10^{-5}$, and $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\toρ^+φ, φ\to e^{+}e^{-} )=(2.44^{+0.67}_{-0.62}\pm 0.16)\times 10^{-5}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. No significant signal for the three four-body decays of $D_{s}^{+}\to π^{+}π^{0}e^{+}e^{-},\ D_{s}^{+}\to K^{+}π^{0}e^{+}e^{-}$, and $D_{s}^{+}\to K_{S}^{0}π^{+}e^{+}e^{-}$ is observed. For $D_{s}^{+}\to π^{+}π^{0}e^{+}e^{-}$, the $φ$ mass region is vetoed to minimize the long-distance effects. The 90$\%$ confidence level upper limits set on the branching fractions of these decays are in the range of $(7.0-8.1)\times 10^{-5}$. △ Less

The branching fraction of $h_c\to K_S^0 K^+π^- +c.c.$ is measured to be $(7.3\pm0.8\pm1.8)\times10^{-4}$, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Abstract: Six $C$-even states, denoted as $X$, with quantum numbers $J^{PC}=0^{-+}$, $1^{\pm+}$, or $2^{\pm+}$, are searched for via the $e^+e^-\toγD_{s}^{\pm}D_{s}^{*\mp}$ process using $(1667.39\pm8.84)~\mathrm{pb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring at center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=(4681.92\pm0.30)~\mathrm{MeV}$. Abstract: We report a first study of the semileptonic decay $D^0\rightarrow K^-π^0μ^{+}ν_μ$ by analyzing an $e^+e^-$ annihilation data sample of $7.9~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector. The absolute branching fraction of $D^0\to K^-π^0μ^{+}ν_μ$ is measured for the first time to be $(0.729 \pm 0.014_{\rm stat} \pm 0.011_{\rm syst})\%$. Based on an a… ▽ More We report a first study of the semileptonic decay $D^0\rightarrow K^-π^0μ^{+}ν_μ$ by analyzing an $e^+e^-$ annihilation data sample of $7.9~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector. The absolute branching fraction of $D^0\to K^-π^0μ^{+}ν_μ$ is measured for the first time to be $(0.729 \pm 0.014_{\rm stat} \pm 0.011_{\rm syst})\%$. Based on an amplitude analysis, the $S\text{-}{\rm wave}$ contribution is determined to be $(5.76 \pm 0.35_{\rm stat} \pm 0.29_{\rm syst})\%$ of the total decay rate in addition to the dominated $K^{*}(892)^-$ component. The branching fraction of $D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ$ is given to be $(2.062 \pm 0.039_{\rm stat} \pm 0.032_{\rm syst})\%$, which improves the precision of the world average by a factor of 5. Combining with the world average of ${\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-e^+ν_e)$, the ratio of the branching fractions obtained is $\frac{{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ)}{{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-e^+ν_e)} = 0.96\pm0.08$, in agreement with lepton flavor universality. Furthermore, assuming single-pole dominance parameterization, the most precise hadronic form factor ratios for $D^0\to K^{*}(892)^{-} μ^+ν_μ$ are extracted to be $r_{V}=V(0)/A_1(0)=1.37 \pm 0.09_{\rm stat} \pm 0.03_{\rm syst}$ and $r_{2}=A_2(0)/A_1(0)=0.76 \pm 0.06_{\rm stat} \pm 0.02_{\rm syst}$. △ Less

[O I] line emission from the bubble's PDR reveals self-absorption features. Toward a FIR-bright protostar, both [O I] and [C II] show an absorption feature at a velocity of $-18$ km/s, the same velocity as an unrelated foreground molecular cloud. Since the gas density in typical molecular clouds is well below the [O I] and [C II] critical densities, the excitation temperatures for both lines are low (~20 K). The Meudon models demonstrate that the surface of a molecular cloud, externally illuminated by a standard G_0 = 1 interstellar radiation field, can produce absorption features in both transitions. Thus, the commonly observed [O I] and [C II] self-absorption and absorption features plausibly arise from the subthermally excited, externally illuminated, photodissociated envelopes of molecular clouds. The luminous young stellar object AGAL337.916-00.477, located precisely where the expanding bubble strikes the Nessie filament, is associated with two shock tracers: NH3 (3,3) maser emission and SiO 2-1 emission, indicating interaction between the bubble and the filament. The interaction of the expanding bubble with its parental dense filament has triggered star formation. △ Less

Electronic structure and magnetism in P4/nmm KCoO2

Abstract: KCoO2 has been found in 1975 to exist in a unique structure with P4/nmm spacegroup with Co in a square pyramidal coordination with the Co atoms in the plane linked by O in a square arrangement reminiscent of the cuprates but its electronic structure has not been studied until now. Unlike Co atoms in LiCoO2 and NaCoO2 in octahedral coordination, which are non-magnetic band structure insulators, the unusual coordination of d6 Co^{3+} in KCoO2 is here shown to lead to a magnetic stabilization of an insulating structure with high magnetic moments of 4μB per Co. The electronic band structure is calculated using the quasiparticle self-consistent (QS)GW method and the basic formation of magnetic moments is explained in terms of the orbital decomposition of the bands. The optical dielectric function is calculated using the Bethe-Salpeter equation including only transitions between equal spin bands. The magnetic moments are shown to prefer an antiferromagnetic ordering along the [110] direction. Exchange interactions are calculated from the transverse spin susceptibility and a rigid spin approximation. The Néel temperature is estimated using the mean-field and Tyablikov methods and found to be between approximately 100 and 250 K. The band structure in the AFM ordering can be related to the FM ordering by band folding effects. The optical spectra are similar in both structures and show evidence of excitonic features below the quasiparticle gap of about 4 eV. △ Less
