We analyze the chiral separation effect (CSE) in QCD by using the gauge/gravity duality. In QCD, this effect arises from a combination of chiral anomalies and the axial $U(1)$ anomaly. Due to the axial gluon anomaly, the value of the CSE conductivity is not determined by the anomalies of QCD but receives radiative corrections, which leads to nontrivial dependence on temperature and density. To analyze this dependence, we use different variants of V-QCD, a complex holographic model, carefully fitted to QCD data. We find our results for the anomalous CSE conductivity at small chemical potential and nonzero temperature to be in good qualitative agreement with recent results from lattice QCD simulations. We furthermore give predictions for the behavior of the conductivity at finite (vectorial and axial) chemical potentials.

Our approach is inspired by previously known effective theories found in the limit of high number of dimensions. We argue that the new approach can accurately describe phase transitions in a wide class of theories, such as the Yang-Mills and other nearly critical field theories. As an application, we analyze the interface between confining and deconfining phases in holographic Yang-Mills theory.

We investigate fluctuations of hot and dense QCD plasma by using the gauge/gravity duality. To this end, we carry out a comprehensive classification and analysis of quasinormal modes of charged black holes in the holographic V-QCD model. It turns out that the Chern-Simons term determined by the flavor anomalies of QCD is strong enough to drive a modulated instability. While such an instability is expected at high densities, we find that the unstable phase extends to surprisingly low densities and high temperatures, close to the region where data from lattice simulations is available. We also analyze the limit of small temperature which is controlled by a quantum critical AdS$_2$ point. We study in detail the signatures of the critical point in the quasinormal mode spectrum, focusing on the interplay between the hydrodynamic modes and other modes.

We investigate quark-gluon plasma at nonzero density by using two holographic models for QCD based on either brane or Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton actions. We determine the parameters of these models through a systematic statistical fitting procedure to lattice QCD data, which encompasses the equation of state (through the entropy density) and the two lowest baryon number susceptibilities. The predictions from the two models for the higher-order susceptibilities and the equation of state at nonzero density are strikingly similar. In particular, both models suggest the presence of a critical point on the $(μ_B,T)$-phase diagram near $μ_B/T \approx 6$. The results for the equation of state are in agreement with lattice data for higher-order susceptibilities and experimental data for the cumulants of the net-proton number from the Beam Energy Scan program at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider.

We study energy-momentum and charge transport in strongly interacting holographic quantum field theories in an anisotropic thermal state by contrasting three different holographic methods to compute transport coefficients: standard holographic calculation of retarded Greens functions, a method based on the null-focusing equation near horizon and the novel method based on background variations. Employing these methods we compute anisotropic shear and bulk viscosities and conductivities with anisotropy induced externally, for example by an external magnetic field. We show that all three methods yield consistent results. The novel method allows us to read off the transport coefficients from the horizon data and express them in analytic form from which we derive universal relations among them. Furthermore we extend the method based on the null-focusing equation to Gauss-Bonnet theory to compute higher derivative corrections to the aforementioned transport coefficients.

We carry out an in-depth analysis of the prompt-collapse behaviour of binary neutron star (BNS) mergers. To this end, we perform more than $80$ general relativistic BNS merger simulations using a family of realistic Equations of State (EOS) with different stiffness, which feature a first order deconfinement phase transition between hadronic and quark matter. From these simulations we infer the critical binary mass $M_{\rm crit}$ that separates the prompt from the non-prompt collapse regime. We show that the critical mass increases with the stiffness of the EOS and obeys a tight quasi-universal relation, $M_{\rm crit}/M_{\rm TOV}\approx 1.41\pm 0.06$, which links it to the maximum mass $M_{\rm TOV}$ of static neutron stars, and therefore provides a straightforward estimate for the total binary mass beyond which prompt collapse becomes inevitable. In addition, we introduce a novel gauge independent definition for a one-parameter family of threshold masses in terms of curvature invariants of the Riemann tensor which characterizes the development toward a more rapid collapse with increasing binary mass. Using these diagnostics, we find that the amount of matter remaining outside the black hole sharply drops in supercritical mass mergers compared to subcritical ones and is further reduced in mergers where the black hole collapse is induced by the formation of a quark matter core. This implies that $M_{\rm crit}$, particularly for merger remnants featuring quark matter cores, imposes a strict upper limit on the emission of any detectable electromagnetic counterpart in BNS mergers.

Modern hydrodynamic simulations of core-collapse supernovae and neutron-star mergers require knowledge not only of the equilibrium properties of strongly interacting matter, but also of the system's response to perturbations, encoded in various transport coefficients. Using perturbative and holographic tools, we derive here an improved weak-coupling and a new strong-coupling result for the most important transport coefficient of unpaired quark matter, its bulk viscosity. These results are combined in a simple analytic pocket formula for the quantity that is rooted in perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics at high densities but takes into account nonperturbative holographic input at neutron-star densities, where the system is strongly coupled. This expression can be used in the modeling of unpaired quark matter at astrophysically relevant temperatures and densities.

We introduce a novel and effective method to compute transport coefficients in strongly interacting plasma states in holographic QFTs. Our method is based on relating the IR limit of fluctuations on a gravitational background to its variations providing a previously overlooked connection between boundary and near horizon data. We use this method to derive analytic formulas for the viscosities of an ansiotropic plasma state in the presence of an external magnetic field or another isotropy breaking external source. The masses of all composite states, except the Nambu-Goldstone bosons like dilaton, are bounded by the infrared scale or the dynamical mass. The parametric dependence of the dilaton mass is controlled by the closeness of the anomalous dimension of the quark bilinear, that breaks spontaneously the scale symmetry, to the conformality. We also show in the holographic dual that under certain assumptions, the dilaton saturates at low energy the anomalous Ward identity for the dilatation currents.

We propose weaker monogamy relations for dual entanglement measures, which lead to a new lower bound on EWCS. The structure of the five-dimensional Tachyon-Chern-Simons action and its relevance to single-baryon states in the context of the V-QCD models for holographic QCD with backreacting flavor are analyzed. The most general form of the Tachyon-Chern-Simons 5-form, compatible with symmetries and flavor anomalies is determined. It is the sum of a non-trivial gauge-invariant 5-dimensional form and a non-invariant closed 5-form that reproduces the flavor anomalies. Single-baryon solutions of the gravity theory, arising from the DBI plus Tachyon-Chern-Simons actions are considered. The baryon is realised as a bulk axial instanton. The baryon ansatz and the field equations are derived and the boundary conditions are determined, which ensure that the solution has finite boundary energy and unit baryon charge. The boundary baryon number, which is computed from the universal (closed) part of the Tachyon-Chern-Simons action, is shown to coincide with the bulk axial instanton number.

Using full 3+1 dimensional general-relativistic hydrodynamic simulations of equal- and unequal-mass neutron-star binaries with properties that are consistent with those inferred from the inspiral of GW170817, we perform a detailed study of the quark-formation processes that could take place after merger. We use three equations of state consistent with current pulsar observations derived from a novel finite-temperature framework based on V-QCD, a non-perturbative gauge/gravity model for Quantum Chromodynamics. In this way, we identify three different post-merger stages at which mixed baryonic and quark matter, as well as pure quark matter, are generated. A phase transition triggered collapse already $\lesssim 10\,\rm{ms}$ after the merger reveals that the softest version of our equations of state is actually inconsistent with the expected second-long post-merger lifetime of GW170817. Our results underline the impact that multi-messenger observations of binary neutron-star mergers can have in constraining the equation of state of nuclear matter, especially in its most extreme regimes.

We present a novel framework for the equation of state of dense and hot Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), which focuses on the region of the phase diagram relevant for neutron star mergers and core-collapse supernovae. The model combines predictions from the gauge/gravity duality with input from lattice field theory, QCD perturbation theory, chiral effective theory and statistical modeling. It is therefore, by construction, in good agreement with theoretical constraints both at low and high densities and temperatures. The main ingredients of our setup are the non-perturbative V-QCD model based on the gauge/gravity duality, a van der Waals model for nucleon liquid, and the DD2 version of the Hempel-Schaffner-Bielich statistical model of nuclear matter. By consistently combining these models, we also obtain a description for the nuclear to quark matter phase transition and its critical endpoint. The parameter dependence of the model is represented by three (soft, intermediate and stiff) variants of the equation of state, all of which agree with observational constraints from neutron stars and their mergers. We discuss resulting constraints for the equation of state, predictions for neutron stars and the location of the critical point.

Fluctuations around critical behavior of a holographic charged plasmas are investigated by studying quasi-normal modes of the corresponding black branes in 5D Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton gravity. The near horizon geometry of black branes approaches the well-known 2D charged string black hole in the critical limit, for which a world-sheet description is available, and the corresponding quasi-normal modes can be obtained analytically from the reflection amplitude of the 2D black hole geometry. We find two distinct set of modes: a purely imaginary ``decoupled'' set, directly following from the reflection amplitude, and a ``non-decoupled'' set that was already identified in the neutral holographic plasma in \cite{Betzios:2018kwn}. In the extremal limit, the former set of imaginary quasi-normal modes coalesce on a branch cut starting from the the origin, signaling breakdown of hydrodynamic approximation. We further complete the black brane geometry with a slice of AdS near the boundary, to allow for a holographic construction, and find another set of modes localized in the UV. Finally, we develop an alternative WKB method to obtain the quasi-normal modes in the critical limit and apply this method to study the spectrum of hyperscaling-violating Lifshitz black branes. The critical limit of the plasma we consider in this paper is in one-to-one correspondence with the large D limit of Einstein's gravity which allows for an alternative interesting interpretation of our findings.

We analyze families of hybrid equations of state of cold QCD matter, which combine input from gauge/gravity duality and from various ab initio methods for nuclear matter at low density, and predict that all neutron stars are fully hadronic without quark matter cores. We focus on constraints from recent measurements by the NICER telescope on the radius and mass of the millisecond pulsar PSR J0740+6620. These results are found to be consistent with our approach: they set only mild constraints on the hybrid equations of state, and favor the most natural models which are relatively stiff at low density. Adding an upper bound on the maximal mass of neutron stars, as suggested by the analysis of the GW170817 neutron star merger event, tightens the constraints considerably. We discuss updated predictions on observables such as the transition density and latent heat of the nuclear to quark matter transition as well as the masses, radii, and tidal deformabilities of neutron stars.

Dense nuclear matter is modeled in V-QCD through a homogeneous non-Abelian bulk gauge field. Feasible "hybrid" equations of state for cold nuclear (and quark) matter can be constructed by using traditional methods (e.g., effective field theory) at low densities and the holographic V-QCD model at higher densities. I discuss the constraints from this approach to the properties of the nuclear to quark matter transition as well as to properties of neutron stars. Using such hybrid equations of state as an input for numerical simulations of neutron star mergers, I also derive predictions for the spectrum of produced gravitational waves.

We calculate the effect of magnetic fields on the magnetic dipole moment of leptons up to the quadratic order in the magnetic field, including the QCD contributions. Since the leading contribution, which is linear in the magnetic field, depends on the spin, its effect is not measurable directly in the Penning trap experiment for the electron dipole moment. In the muon anomaly, however, we find that the electrons decayed from muons are refracted linearly in the magnetic field. This effect, though quite small, changes the distribution of the detected electrons in the muon $g-2$ experiment and could be measurable, improving the experimental uncertainties. We also discuss the general field-dependent form factors and the Ward-Takahashi identity under the external magnetic fields.

Specializing to the case of unpaired quark matter in beta equilibrium, we approach the problem through the machinery of holography, in particular the V-QCD and D3-D7 models, and derive results for the electrical and thermal conductivities and the shear and bulk viscosities. In addition we compare the bulk to shear viscosity ratio to the speed of sound and find that it violates the so-called Buchel bound. Our results differ dramatically from earlier predictions of perturbative QCD, the root causes and implications of which we analyze in detail.

In the context of theories with a first order phase transition, we propose a general covariant description of coexisting phases separated by domain walls using an additional order parameter-like degree of freedom. In the case of a holographic Witten model with a confining and deconfined phase, the resulting model extends hydrodynamics and has a simple formulation in terms of a spacetime action with corresponding expressions for the energy-momentum tensor. The proposed description leads to simple analytic profiles of domain walls, including expressions for surface tension density, which agree nicely with holographic numerical solutions, despite the apparent complexity of those gravitational backgrounds.

With this setting, we fit the masses of the mesons with spins $J=2$, $3$, and $4$,as well as the experimental data of the total cross-sections $σ(γγ\to X)$, $σ(γp \to X)$ and $σ(p p \to X)$. We investigate the combined effects of anisotropy and a magnetic field in strongly interacting gauge theories by the gauge/gravity correspondence. Our main motivation is the quark-gluon plasma produced in off-central heavy-ion collisions which exhibits large anisotropy in pressure gradients as well as large external magnetic fields. We explore two different configurations, with the anisotropy either parallel or perpendicular to the magnetic field, focusing on the competition and interplay between the two. A detailed study of the RG flow in the ground state reveals a rich structure where depending on which of the two, anisotropy or magnetic field, is stronger, intermediate geometries with approximate AdS$_4\times \mathbb{R}$ and AdS$_3\times \mathbb{R}^2$ factors arise. This competition is also manifest in the phase structure at finite temperature, specifically in the dependence of the chiral transition temperature on anisotropy and magnetic field, from which we infer the presence of inverse magnetic and anisotropic catalyses of the chiral condensate. Finally, we consider other salient observables in the theory, including the quark-antiquark potential, shear viscosity, entanglement entropy and the butterfly velocity. We demonstrate that they serve as good probes of the theory, in particular, distinguishing between the effects of the magnetic field and anisotropy in the ground and plasma states. We also find that the butterfly velocity, which codifies how fast information propagates in the plasma, exhibits a rich structure as a function of temperature, anisotropy and magnetic field, exceeding the conformal value in certain regimes.

Nuclear matter at large number of colors is necessarily in a solid phase. In particular holographic nuclear matter takes the form of a crystal of instantons of the flavor group. In this article we initiate the analysis of the three-dimensional crystal structures and the orientation patterns for the two-body potential that follows from holographic duality. The outcome of the analysis includes several unexpected results. We perform simulations of ensembles of O(10000) instantons whereby we identify the lattice structure and orientations for the different values of the weight factors of the non-Abelian orientation terms in the two-body potential. The resulting phase diagram is surprisingly complex, including a variety of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic crystals with various global orientation patterns, and various "non-Abelian" crystals where orientations have no preferred direction. The latter include variants of face-centered-cubic, hexagonal, and simple cubic crystals which may have remarkably large or small aspect ratios. The simulation results are augmented by analytic analysis of the long-distance divergences, and numerical computation of the (divergence free) energy differences between the non-Abelian crystals, which allows us to precisely determine the structure of the phase diagram.

We study rapidly spinning compact stars with equations of state featuring a first order phase transition between strongly coupled nuclear matter and deconfined quark matter by employing the gauge/gravity duality. We consider a family of models, which allow purely hadronic uniformly rotating stars with masses up to approximately $2.9\, \mathrm{M}_\odot$, and are therefore compatible with the interpretation that the secondary component ($2.59^{+0.08}_{-0.09}\, \mathrm{M}_\odot$) in GW190814 is a neutron star. These stars have central densities several times the nuclear saturation density so that strong coupling and non-perturbative effects become crucial. We construct models where the maximal mass of static (rotating) stars $M_{\mathrm{TOV}}$ ($M_{\mathrm{max}}$) is either determined by the secular instability or a phase transition induced collapse. We find largest values for $M_{\mathrm{max}}/M_{\mathrm{TOV}}$ in cases where the phase transition determines $M_{\mathrm{max}}$, which shifts our fit result to $M_{\mathrm{max}}/M_{\mathrm{TOV}} = 1.227^{+0.031}_{-0.016}$, a value slightly above the Breu-Rezzolla bound $1.203^{+0.022}_{-0.022}$ inferred from models without phase transition.

Ab initio methods using weakly interacting nucleons give a good description of condensed nuclear matter up to densities comparable to the nuclear saturation density. At higher densities palpable strong interactions between overlap** nucleons become important; we propose that the interactions will continuously switch over to follow a holographic model in this region. In order to implement this, we construct hybrid equations of state (EoSs) where various models are used for low density nuclear matter, and the holographic V-QCD model is used for non-perturbative high density nuclear matter as well as for quark matter. We carefully examine all existing constraints from astrophysics of compact stars and discuss their implications for the hybrid EoSs. Thanks to the stiffness of the V-QCD EoS for nuclear matter, we obtain a large family of viable hybrid EoSs passing the constraints. We find that quark matter cores in neutron stars are unstable due to the strongly first order deconfinement transition, and predict bounds on the tidal deformability as well as on the radius of neutron stars. By relying on universal relations, we also constrain characteristic peak frequencies of gravitational waves produced in neutron star mergers.

Depending on the transition density the characteristic frequencies in the spectrum produced from the hybrid EoSs are shifted to significantly lower values as compared to the pure nuclear matter EoS. The highest rest-mass density reached outside a possible black hole horizon is approximately $1.1 \cdot 10^{15}$ g/cm$^3$, which for the holographic model is below the density of the deconfined quark matter phase.

Among the possible CP-odd couplings of the axion to ordinary matter, the most relevant ones for phenomenology are the Yukawa couplings to nucleons. We analyze such non-derivative couplings within three different approaches: standard effective field theory, the Skyrme model and holographic QCD. In all the cases, the couplings can be related to the CP-odd non-derivative couplings to nucleons of the low-lying mesons and the $η'$. Using the effective field theory approach we discuss how to derive the expressions for the CP-odd interaction terms as functions of the parameters of the effective Lagrangian at generic number of colors $N_c$ and flavors $N_f$. Then, we compute the CP-odd couplings to nucleons of the axion, the $η'$ and the pseudo-Goldstone mesons in both the Skyrme and the holographic QCD model with $N_f=2,3$. We present model-independent expressions for the coefficients of the non-derivative axion-nucleon couplings. This allows us to provide quantitative estimates of these couplings.

This is obtained by including the baryons using simple approximation schemes in the V-QCD model, which also includes the backreaction of the quark matter to the dynamics of pure Yang-Mills. We examine two approaches for homogeneous baryon matter: baryons as a thin layer of noninteracting matter in the holographic bulk, and baryons with a homogeneous bulk gauge field. We find that the second approach exhibits phenomenologically reasonable features. At zero temperature, the vacuum, baryon, and quark matter phases are separated by strongly first order transitions as the chemical potential varies. The equation of state in the baryonic phase is found to be stiff, i.e., the speed of sound clearly exceeds the value $c_s^2=1/3$ of conformal plasmas at high baryon densities.

We investigate the effects of anisotropy on the chiral condensate in a holographic model of QCD with a fully backreacted quark sector at vanishing chemical potential. The high temperature deconfined phase is a neutral and anisotropic plasma showing different pressure gradients along different spatial directions, similar to the state produced in noncentral heavy-ion collisions. We find that the chiral transition occurs at a lower temperature in the presence of anisotropy. Equivalently, we find that anisotropy acts destructively on the chiral condensate near the transition temperature. These are precisely the same footprints as the "inverse magnetic catalysis" i.e. the destruction of the condensate with increasing magnetic field observed earlier on the lattice, in effective field theory models and in holography. Based on our findings we suggest, in accordance with the conjecture of [1], that the cause for the inverse magnetic catalysis may be the anisotropy caused by the presence of the magnetic field instead of the charge dynamics created by it. We conclude that the weakening of the chiral condensate due to anisotropy is more general than that due to a magnetic field and we coin the former "inverse anisotropic catalysis". Finally, we observe that any amount of anisotropy changes the IR physics substantially: the geometry is $\text{AdS}_4 \times \mathbb{R}$ up to small corrections, confinement is present only up to a certain scale, and the particles acquire finite widths.

We demonstrate that the resulting pressure in V-QCD matches well with a family of neutron-star-matter EoSs that interpolate between state-of-the-art theoretical results for low and high density QCD. After implementing the astrophysical constraints, i.e., the largest known neutron star mass and the recent LIGO/Virgo results for the tidal deformability, we analyse the phase transition between the baryonic and quark matter phases. We find that the baryon density $n_B$ at the transition is at least 2.9 times the nuclear saturation density $n_s$. The transition is of strongly first order at low and intermediate densities, i.e., for $n_B/n_s \lesssim 7.5$.

We continue the study initiated in [arXiv:1708.02252] of the fluctuations of a strongly-coupled non-conformal plasma described holographically by Einstein gravity coupled to a dilaton with an exponential potential. The plasma approaches a critical point of a continuous phase transition in a specific limit, where the metric becomes a linear-dilaton background. This results to an analytic description of the quasi-normal mode spectrum, that can be extended perturbatively in the deviation away from the critical point. In the previous paper we showed that at criticality the quasinormal frequencies coalesce into a branch cut on the real axis. In this paper we give a more extended and complete discussion of these results. We compare in detail the numerical and analytical approximations in order to confirm their validity; we study (numerically and in a WKB approximation) the momentum dependence of the modes, in order to determine the cross-over scale that limits the validity of the hydrodynamic approximation, and which becomes arbitrarily low at the critical point; and we discuss in detail the procedure we use to complete the theory in the UV by gluing a slice of AdS geometry, and the extent to which it should provide a good approximation to a smooth UV-complete situation.

In particular we calculate the quasi-normal mode spectrum of black hole backgrounds that approach to Chamblin-Reall plasmas in the IR. In a specific limit, related to the exact linear-dilaton background in string theory, we observe that the plasma approaches criticality and we obtain the quasi-normal spectrum analytically. We regulate the critical limit by gluing the IR geometry that corresponds to the non-conformal plasma to a part of AdS space-time in the UV. Near criticality, we find two sets of quasi-normal modes, related to the IR and UV parts of the geometry. In the critical limit, the quasi-normal modes accumulate to form a branch cut in the correlators of the energy-momentum tensor on the real axis of the complex frequency plane.

We provide a detailed account of both DC and AC conductivities in a defect CFT with spontaneous stripe order. The spatial symmetry is broken at large chemical potential and the resulting ground state is a combination of a spin and charge density wave. An infinitesimal applied electric field across the stripes will cause the stripes to slide over the underlying density of smeared impurities, a phenomenon which can be associated with the Goldstone mode for the spontaneously broken translation symmetry. We show that the presence of a spatially modulated background magnetization current thwarts the expression of some DC conductivities in terms of horizon data.

We study the dependence of the chiral condensate on external magnetic field in the context of holographic QCD at large number of flavors. We consider a holographic QCD model where the flavor degrees of freedom fully backreact on the color dynamics. Perturbative QCD calculations have shown that $B$ acts constructively on the chiral condensate, a phenomenon called "magnetic catalysis". In contrast, recent lattice calculations show that, depending on the number of flavors and temperature, the magnetic field may also act destructively, which is called "inverse magnetic catalysis". Here we show that the holographic theory is capable of both behaviors depending on the choice of parameters. For reasonable choice of the potentials entering the model we find qualitative agreement with the lattice expectations. Our results provide insight for the physical reasons behind the inverse magnetic catalysis. In particular, we argue that the backreaction of the flavors to the background geometry decatalyzes the condensate.

An unprecedented analysis of the CP-odd physics is performed going beyond the level of effective field theories. The structure of holographic saddle-points at finite $θ$ is determined, as well as its interplay with chiral symmetry breaking. Many observables (vacuum energy and higher-order susceptibilities, singlet and non-singlet masses and mixings) are computed as functions of $θ$ and the quark mass $m$. Wherever applicable the results are compared to those of chiral Lagrangians, finding agreement. In particular, we recover the Witten-Veneziano formula in the small $x\to 0$ limit, we compute the $θ$-dependence of the pion mass and we derive the hyperscaling relation for the topological susceptibility in the conformal window in terms of the quark mass.

Holography and the conformal window in the Veneziano limit
Authors:

Abstract:
We discuss holographic QCD in the Veneziano limit (the V-QCD models), concentrating on phenomena near the "conformal" phase transition taking place at a critical value of the ratio x = N_f/N_c. In particular, we review the results for the S-parameter, the technidilaton, and the masses of the mesons.

We determine analytically the dependence of the approach to thermal equilibrium of strongly coupled plasmas on the breaking of scale invariance. The theories we consider are the holographic duals to Einstein gravity coupled to a scalar with an exponential potential. The coefficient in the exponent, $X$, is the parameter that controls the deviation from the conformally invariant case. For these models we obtain analytic solutions for the plasma expansion in the late-time limit, under the assumption of boost-invariance, and we determine the scaling behaviour of the energy density, pressure, and temperature as a function of time. We find that the temperature decays as a function of proper time as $T\sim τ^{-s/4}$ with $s$ determined in terms of the non-conformality parameter $X$ as $s=4(1-4X^2)/3$. This agrees with the result of Janik and Peschanski, $s=4/3$, for the conformal plasmas and generalizes it to non-conformal plasmas with $X\neq 0$. We also consider more realistic potentials where the exponential is supplemented by power-law terms. Even though in this case we cannot have exact solutions, we are able under certain assumptions to determine the scaling of the energy, that receives logarithmic corrections.

Massive holographic QCD in the Veneziano limit

Abstract:
QCD at finite, flavor independent quark mass is analyzed by using bottom-up holography in the Veneziano limit, where the backreaction of quarks to the gluon dynamics is fully included. The dependence on the quark mass of observables such as the bound state masses, the chiral condensate, the S-parameter, and the critical temperatures is studied. Many of the results are argued to be universal, i.e., independent of the details of the holographic model, and compared to explicit computations in the V-QCD models. The effect of adding four-fermion operators in QCD is also discussed.
