We report on $^{75}$As-NMR measurements in single crystalline BaFe$_{2}$(As$_{0.96}$P$_{0.04}$)$_{2}$ for magnetic fields parallel to the orthorhombic $[110]_{\rm o}$ and $[100]_{\rm o}$ directions above the structural transition temperature $T_{\rm S}\simeq121$ K. A large difference in the linewidth between the two field directions reveals in-plane anisotropy of the electric field gradient, even in the tetragonal phase. This provides microscopic evidence of population imbalance between As-$4p_{x}$ and $4p_{y}$ orbitals, which reaches $|n_x-n_y|/|n_x+n_y| \sim 15$\% at $T\rightarrow T_{\rm S}$ and is a natural consequence of the orbital ordering of Fe-3$d_{xz}$ and $d_{yz}$ electrons. Surprisingly, this orbital polarization is found to be already static near room temperature, suggesting that it arises from the pinning of anisotropic orbital fluctuations by disorder. The effect is found to be stronger below $\sim 160$ K, which coincides with the appearance of nematicity in previous torque and photoemission measurements. These results impose strong constraints on microscopic models of the nematic state.

The nature of the tetragonal-to-orthorhombic structural transition at $T_s\approx90$ K in single crystalline FeSe is studied using shear-modulus, heat-capacity, magnetization and NMR measurements. The transition is shown to be accompanied by a large shear-modulus softening, which is practically identical to that of underdoped Ba(Fe,Co)$_2$As$_2$, suggesting very similar strength of the electron-lattice coupling. On the other hand, a spin-fluctuation contribution to the spin-lattice relaxation rate is only observed below $T_s$. This indicates that the structural, or "nematic", phase transition in FeSe is not driven by magnetic fluctuations.

We performed $^{31}$P-NMR measurements on LaFe(As$_{1-x}$P$_{x}$)O to investigate the relationship between antiferromagnetism and superconductivity. The antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering temperature $T_{\rm N}$ and the moment $μ_{\rm ord}$ are continuously suppressed with increasing P content $x$ and disappear at $x = 0.3$ where bulk superconductivity appears. At this superconducting $x = 0.3$, quantum critical AFM fluctuations are observed, indicative of the intimate relationship between superconductivity and low-energy AFM fluctuations associated with the quantum-critical point in LaFe(As$_{1-x}$P$_{x}$)O. The relationship is similar to those observed in other isovalent-substitution systems, e.g., BaFe$_{2}$(As$_{1-x}$P$_{x}$)$_{2}$ and SrFe$_{2}$(As$_{1-x}$P$_{x}$)$_{2}$, with the "122" structure. Moreover, the AFM order reappears with further P substitution ($x > 0.4$). The variation of the ground state with respect to the P substitution is considered to be linked to the change in the band character of Fe-3$d$ orbitals around the Fermi level.

The NMR results in iron pnictides BaFe2(As1-xPx)2 and Ba(Fe1-xCox)2As2 are analyzed based on the self-consistent renormalization (SCR) spin fluctuation theory. The temperature dependence of the NMR relaxation rate (T_1)^{-1} as well as the electrical resistivity is well reproduced by a SCR model where two-dimensional antiferromagnetic (AF) spin fluctuations are dominant. The successful description of the crossover feature from non-Fermi liquid to Fermi liquid behavior strongly suggests that low-lying spin fluctuations in BaFe2(As1-xPx)2 and Ba(Fe1-xCox)2As2 possess an itinerant AF nature, and that chemical substitution in the two compounds tunes the distance of these systems to an AF quantum critical point. The close relationship between spin fluctuations and superconductivity is discussed compared with the other unconventional superconductors, cuprate and heavy fermion superconductors. In addition, it is suggested that magnetism and lattice instability in these pnictides are strongly linked via orbital degrees of freedom.

$^{75}$As and $^{139}$La NMR results of LaFeAs(O$_{1-x}$F$_x$) ($x$=0, 0.025, and 0.04) were reported. Upon F-do**, the tetragonal-to-orthorhombic structural phase transition temperature $T_S$, antiferromagnetic transition temperature $T_N$ and internal magnetic field $μ_0H_{\rm int}$ are gradually reduced for $x<0.04$. However, at $x=0.04$, $T_N$ is abruptly suppressed to be 30 K along with a tiny $μ_0H_{\rm int}$, which is distinct from the continuous disappearance of the ordered phases in the Ba122 systems of Ba(Fe,Co)$_2$As$_2$ and BaFe$_2$(As,P)$_2$. The anisotropy of the spin-lattice relaxation rate $T_1^{-1}$, $(T_1)^{-1}_{H\parallel ab}/(T_1)^{-1}_{H\parallel c}$, in the paramagnetic phase of $x = 0$ and 0.025 is constant ($\sim 1.5$), but increases abruptly below $T_S$ due to the enhancement of $(T_1)^{-1}_{H\parallel ab}$ by the slowing down of magnetic fluctuations. This indicates that the tetragonal-to-orthorhombic structural distortion enhances the anisotropy in the spin space via magnetoelastic coupling and/or spin-orbit interaction.

In this report, we show the results of the STM/STS study on the Bi2223 single crystals whose do** levels were ranging from an optimally doped to an underdoped region. Bi2223 single crystals were grown by a TSFZ method and their do** levels were adjusted with annealing in an oxygen deficient atmosphere. Single crystals were cleaved in an UHV at around 77 K and STM/STS measurements were carried out in the same conditions. We successfully obtained the tunneling spectrum maps as well as topographic images. We found that the superconducting gap was much more homogeneous than in the case of the Bi2212 in optimal do**, but becomes inhomogeneous with decreasing a do** level. This suggests the decoupling of the three Cu-O layers in terms of the SC correlation. More importantly, we found a new periodic modulation in the LDOS map with periods about 2a0, which was almost dispersion-less and observed only in the underdoped TC=85 K sample. This modulation is possibly related to the charge/spin order in the inner plane, which is supposed to be highly undrerdoped.

The coexistence of magnetism and superconductivity in the isovalent-P-substituted BaFe$_2$(As$_{1-x}$P$_x$)$_2$ has been investigated microscopically by $^{31}$P-NMR measurements. We found that superconducting (SC) transition occurs in a magnetic region with static ordered moments and that the moments are reduced below the SC transition temperature $T_{\rm c}$ in the samples near the phase boundary of magnetism and superconductivity. Our results indicate that magnetism and superconductivity coexist spatially but compete with each other on the same Fermi surfaces. The coexistence state is qualitatively different from that observed in other unconventional superconductors and gives a strict constraint on the theoretical model for superconductivity in BaFe$_2$(As$_{1-x}$P$_x$)$_2$.

Our results suggest that the suppression of superconductivity by Zn substitution is not due to the change of the normal-state properties, but due to strong non-magnetic pair-breaking effect to superconductivity.

These results provide clear-cut evidence for a quantum-critical point (QCP), suggesting that the AF fluctuations associated with the QCP play a central role in the high-$T_c$ superconductivity.

While the temperature dependence of the normal-state $1/T_1T$ in the superconducting (SC) $x = 0.07$ is different from that in the SC $x = 0.11$, their anisotropy of $1/T_1$, $R \equiv (1/T_{1})_{H \parallel ab}/(1/T_{1})_{H \parallel c}$ in the normal state is almost the same ($\simeq$ 1.5). The observed anisotropy is ascribable to the presence of the local stripe correlations with $Q = (π, 0)$ or $(0, π)$. In contrast, $1/T_1$ is isotropic and $R$ is approximately 1 in the overdoped $x = 0.14$ sample, where superconductivity is almost suppressed. These results suggest that the presence of the local stripe correlations originating from the nesting between hole and electron Fermi surfaces is linked to high-$T_c$ superconductivity in iron pnictides.

The nuclear-spin-lattice relaxation rate T_1^{-1} and the Knight shift in the normal state indicate the development of antiferromagnetic fluctuations, and T_1^{-1} in the superconducting (SC) state decreases without a coherence peak just below T_c, as observed in (Ba_{1-x}K_{x})Fe_2As_2. In contrast to other iron arsenide superconductors, the T_1^{-1} \propto T behavior is observed below 4K, indicating the presence of a residual density of states at zero energy. Our results suggest that strikingly different SC gaps appear in BaFe_2(As_{1-x}P_{x})_2 despite a comparable T_c value, an analogous phase diagram, and similar Fermi surfaces to (Ba_{1-x}K_{x})Fe_2As_2.
