We present our optical photometric observations of the 2022 eruption of the recurrent nova U Scorpii (U Sco) using 49,152 data points over 70 d following the optical peak. We have also analyzed its soft X-ray (0.3--1 keV) light curve by the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory. During the 2022 eruption, the optical plateau stage started 13.8--15.0 d and ended 23.8--25.0 d after the optical peak. The soft X-ray stage started 14.6--15.3 d and ended 38.7--39.5 d after the optical peak. Both stages started later and had shorter durations, and the soft X-ray light curve peaked earlier and was less luminous compared to those during the U Sco 2010 eruption. These points suggest that there were differences in the envelope mass between the different cycles of the nova eruption. Furthermore, we have analyzed the optical eclipses during the 2022 eruption. The primary eclipse was first observed 10.4--11.6 d after the optical peak, earlier than the beginning of the optical plateau stage. This sequence of events can be explained by the receding ejecta photosphere associated with the expanding nova ejecta. We have determined the ingress and egress phases of the primary eclipses and estimated the outer radius of the optical light source centered at the white dwarf (WD). During the optical plateau stage, the source radius remained $\sim$1.2 times larger than the Roche volume radius of the primary WD, being close to the L1 point. When the optical plateau stage ended, the source radius drastically shrank to the tidal truncation radius within a few orbital periods. This previously unresolved phenomenon can be interpreted as a structural change in U Sco where the temporarily expanded accretion disk due to the nova wind returned to a steady state.

We analyzed Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS), Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) and All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) data of MASTER OT J055845.55+391533.4 and found that this object repeats superoutburst with a dip in the middle of the outburst followed by long and sometimes oscillating rebrightening, just like a WZ Sge-type dwarf nova or an AM CVn-type object. The mean supercycle was 298(8) d, too short for a WZ Sge star, but with only a few normal outbursts. We also observed the 2023 February-March superoutburst and established the superhump period of 0.05509(2) d. This period appears to exclude the possibility of an AM CVn star. Although the 2023 observations could not detect superhumps after the dip, the 2014, 2016 and 2021 data seem to suggest that low-amplitude superhumps were present during the rebrightening phase. We note that a dip during a superoutburst is a feature common to the unusual SU UMa-type dwarf nova MASTER OT J172758.09+380021.5 during some of its superoutbursts. These objects may comprise a new class of rebrightening phenomenon in SU UMa-type dwarf novae.

Superoutbursts in WZ Sge-type dwarf novae (DNe) are characterized by both early superhumps and ordinary superhumps originating from the 2:1 and 3:1 resonances, respectively. However, some WZ Sge-type DNe show a superoutburst lacking early superhumps; it is not well established how these differ from superoutbursts with an early superhump phase. We report time-resolved photometric observations of the WZ Sge-type DN V627 Peg during its 2021 superoutburst. The detection of ordinary superhumps before the superoutburst peak highlights that this 2021 superoutburst of V627 Peg, like that {in} 2014, did not feature an early superhump phase. The duration of stage B superhumps was slightly longer in the 2010 superoutburst accompanying early superhumps than that in the 2014 and 2021 superoutbursts which lacked early superhumps. This result suggests that an accretion disk experiencing the 2:1 resonance may have a larger mass at the inner part of the disk and hence take more time for the inner disk to become eccentric. The presence of a precursor outburst in the 2021 superoutburst suggests that the maximum disk radius should be smaller than that of the 2014 superoutburst, even though the duration of quiescence was longer than that before the 2021 superoutburst. This could be accomplished if the 2021 superoutburst was triggered as an inside-out outburst or if the mass transfer rate in quiescence changes by a factor of two, suggesting that the outburst mechanism and quiescence state of WZ Sge-type DNe may have more variety than ever thought.

This paper presents a fully-automated method for the identification of suspicious regions of a coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on chest CT volumes. One major role of chest CT scanning in COVID-19 diagnoses is identification of an inflammation particular to the disease. This task is generally performed by radiologists through an interpretation of the CT volumes, however, because of the heavy workload, an automatic analysis method using a computer is desired. Most computer-aided diagnosis studies have addressed only a portion of the elements necessary for the identification. In this work, we realize the identification method through a classification task by using a 2.5-dimensional CNN with three-dimensional attention mechanisms. We visualize the suspicious regions by applying a backpropagation based on positive gradients to attention-weighted features. We perform experiments on an in-house dataset and two public datasets to reveal the generalization ability of the proposed method. The proposed architecture achieved AUCs of over 0.900 for all the datasets, and mean sensitivity $0.853 \pm 0.036$ and specificity $0.870 \pm 0.040$. The method can also identify notable lesions pointed out in the radiology report as suspicious regions.

We theoretically study the tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) effect in (111)-oriented magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) with SrTiO$_{3}$ barriers, Co/SrTiO$_{3}$/Co(111) and Ni/SrTiO$_{3}$/Ni(111). Our analysis combining the first-principles calculation and the Landauer formula shows that the Co-based MTJ has a high TMR ratio over 500%, while the Ni-based MTJ has a smaller value (290%). Since the in-plane lattice periodicity of SrTiO$_{3}$ is about twice that of the primitive cell of fcc Co (Ni), the original bands of Co (Ni) are folded in the $k_x$-$k_y$ plane corresponding to the $ab$ plane of the MTJ supercell. We find that this band folding gives a half-metallic band structure in the $Λ_1$ state of Co (Ni) and the coherent tunneling of such a half-metallic $Λ_1$ state yields a high TMR ratio. We also reveal that the difference in the TMR ratio between the Co- and Ni-based MTJs can be understood by different $s$-orbital weights in the $Λ_1$ band at the Fermi level.

In the first days of WZ Sge-type dwarf nova (DN) outbursts, the 2:1 resonance induces a spiral arm structure in the accretion disk, which is observed as early superhumps in optical light curves. This paper reports our optical observations of an eclipsing WZ Sge-type DN PNV J00444033+4113068 during its 2021 superoutburst with the 3.8m Seimei telescope and through VSNET collaboration. The eclipse analysis gave its orbital period as 0.055425534(1) d. Our observations confirmed early superhumps with an amplitude of 0.7 mag, the largest amplitude among known WZ Sge-type DNe. More interestingly, its early superhumps became the reddest around their secondary minimum, whereas other WZ Sge-type DNe show the reddest color around the early superhump maximum. The spectrum around the peak of the outburst showed the double-peaked emission lines of He II 4686Å~ and H$α$ with a peak separation of $\ge 700$ km/s, supporting a very high-inclination system. With the early superhump map**, the unique profile and color of the early superhump of PNV J00444033+4113068 are successfully reproduced by the accretion disk with vertically extended double arm structure. Therefore, the large amplitude and unique color behavior of the early superhumps in PNV J00444033+4113068 can be explained by the 2:1 resonance model along with other WZ Sge-type DNe.

In a honeycomb-lattice spin-orbit assisted Mott insulator α-RuCl3, an ultrafast magnetization is induced by circularly polarized excitation below the Mott gap. Photo-carriers play an important role, which are generated by turning down the synergy of the on-site Coulomb interaction and the spin-orbit interaction realizing the insulator state. An ultrafast 6- fs measurement of photo-carrier dynamics and a quantum mechanical analysis clarify the mechanism, according to which the magnetization emerges from a coherent charge motion between different t2g orbitals (dyz-dxz-dxy) of Ru3+ ions. This ultrafast magnetization is weakened in the antiferromagnetic (AF) phase, which is opposite to the general tendency that the inverse Faraday effect is larger in AF compounds than in paramagnetic ones. This temperature dependence indicates that the interorbital charge motion is affected by pseudo-spin rotational symmetry breaking in the AF phase.

(2022, arXiv/2109.14514) recently published time-resolved optical spectroscopy, X-ray observations and long- and short-term optical variations. Although their results were correct in many parts, they classified ASAS J071404+7004.3 as a VY Scl-type novalike object. By comparing the ASAS-SN data of this object and the IW And-type object HO Pup, we showed that their type classification was incorrect. ASAS J071404+7004.3 showed outbursts from a standstill followed by shallow dips, which is the defining characteristic of an IW And star. This object predominantly showed states with low-amplitude dwarf nova-type oscillations, some of which could be identified as the "heartbeat"-type state as a variety of the IW And-type phenomenon. The low state described by Inight et al. (2022) was not a true low state of a VY Scl star, but a dwarf nova-type state with increased outburst amplitudes. Both ground-based (our campaign) and TESS observations detected orbital variations whose periods [0.136589(5) d by the ground-based campaign and 0.1366476(3) d by the TESS data] are in very good agreement with the one obtained by radial-velocity studies by Inight et al. (2022). The standstill in 2019-2020 in ASAS J071404+7004.3 was not brighter than its dwarf nova-type states. The brightest moment of this object occurred when the amplitudes of dwarf nova-type variations were large, which challenges the widely accepted interpretation that standstills in Z Cam stars occur when the mass-transfer rates are high.

We propose a depth estimation method from a single-shot monocular endoscopic image using Lambertian surface translation by domain adaptation and depth estimation using multi-scale edge loss. We employ a two-step estimation process including Lambertian surface translation from unpaired data and depth estimation. The texture and specular reflection on the surface of an organ reduce the accuracy of depth estimations. We apply Lambertian surface translation to an endoscopic image to remove these texture and reflections. Then, we estimate the depth by using a fully convolutional network (FCN). During the training of the FCN, improvement of the object edge similarity between an estimated image and a ground truth depth image is important for getting better results. We introduced a muti-scale edge loss function to improve the accuracy of depth estimation. We quantitatively evaluated the proposed method using real colonoscopic images. The estimated depth values were proportional to the real depth values. Furthermore, we applied the estimated depth images to automated anatomical location identification of colonoscopic images using a convolutional neural network. The identification accuracy of the network improved from 69.2% to 74.1% by using the estimated depth images.

This object showed two post-superoutburst rebrightenings both in the 2019 and 2021 superoutbursts. These observations have established that ASASSN-19ax belongs to a group of long-period SU UMa-type dwarf novae which show multiple rebrightenings. This phenomenon probably arises from premature quenching of the superoutburst due to the weak 3:1 resonance near the stability border of the resonance, resulting in a considerable amount of disk mass after the superoutburst. We noted that ASASSN-19ax is very similar to QZ Ser, an SU UMa-type dwarf nova with an orbital period of 0.08316 d and an anomalously hot, bright secondary star, in that both objects showed multiple post-superoutburst rebrightenings at least once and that they are bright in quiescence. We expect that the core of the secondary in ASASSN-19ax may be evolved as in QZ Ser.

How a black hole accretes matter and how this process is regulated are fundamental but unsolved questions in astrophysics. In transient black-hole binaries, a lot of mass stored in an accretion disk is suddenly drained to the central black hole because of thermal-viscous instability. This phenomenon is called an outburst and is observable at various wavelengths (Frank et al., 2002). During the outburst, the accretion structure in the vicinity of a black hole shows dramatical transitions from a geometrically-thick hot accretion flow to a geometrically-thin disk, and the transition is observed at X-ray wavelengths (Remillard, McClintock, 2006; Done et al., 2007). However, how that X-ray transition occurs remains a major unsolved problem (Dunn et al., 2008). Here we report extensive optical photometry during the 2018 outburst of ASASSN-18ey (MAXI J1820$+$070), a black-hole binary at a distance of 3.06 kpc (Tucker et al., 2018; Torres et al., 2019) containing a black hole and a donor star of less than one solar mass. We found optical large-amplitude periodic variations similar to superhumps which are well observed in a subclass of white-dwarf binaries (Kato et al., 2009). In addition, the start of the stage transition of the optical variations was observed 5 days earlier than the X-ray transition. This is naturally explained on the basis of our knowledge regarding white dwarf binaries as follows: propagation of the eccentricity inward in the disk makes an increase of the accretion rate in the outer disk, resulting in huge mass accretion to the black hole. Moreover, we provide the dynamical estimate of the binary mass ratio by using the optical periodic variations for the first time in transient black-hole binaries. This paper opens a new window to measure black-hole masses accurately by systematic optical time-series observations which can be performed even by amateur observers.

SS Cyg has long been recognized as the prototype of a group of dwarf novae that show only outbursts. However, this object has entered a quite anomalous event in 2021, which at first appeared to be standstill, i.e., an almost constant luminosity state, observed in Z Cam-type dwarf novae. This unexpected event gives us a great opportunity to reconsider the nature of standstill in cataclysmic variables. We have observed this anomalous event and its forerunner, a gradual and simultaneous increase in the optical and X-ray flux during quiescence, through many optical telescopes and the X-ray telescopes NICER and NuSTAR. We have not found any amplification of the orbital hump during quiescence before the anomalous event, which suggests that the mass transfer rate did not significantly fluctuate on average. The estimated X-ray flux was not enough to explain the increment of the optical flux during quiescence via X-ray irradiation of the disk and the secondary star. It would be natural to consider that viscosity in the quiescent disk was enhanced before the anomalous event, which increased mass accretion rates in the disk and raised not only the optical flux but also the X-ray flux. We suggest that enhanced viscosity also triggered the standstill-like phenomenon in SS Cyg, which is considered to be a series of small outbursts. The inner part of the disk would always stay in the outburst state and only its outer part would be unstable against the thermal-viscous instability during this phenomenon, which is consistent with the observed optical color variations. This scenario is in line with our X-ray spectral analyses which imply that the X-ray emitting inner accretion flow became hotter than usual and vertically expanded and that it became denser and was cooled down after the onset of the standstill-like state.

IW And stars are a recently recognized subgroup of dwarf novae which are characterized by (often repetitive) slowly rising standstills terminated by brightening, but the exact mechanism for this variation is not yet identified. We have identified BO Cet, which had been considered as a novalike cataclysmic variable, as a new member of IW And stars based on the behavior in 2019-2020. In addition to this, the object showed dwarf nova-type outbursts in 2020-2021, and superhumps having a period 7.8% longer than the orbital one developed at least during one long outburst. This object has been confirmed as an SU UMa-type dwarf nova with an exceptionally long orbital period (0.1398 d). BO Cet is thus the first cataclysmic variable showing both SU UMa-type and IW And-type features. We obtained a mass ratio (q) of 0.31-0.34 from the superhumps in the growing phase (stage A superhumps). At this q, the radius of the 3:1 resonance, responsible for tidal instability and superhumps, and the tidal truncation radius are very similar. We interpret that in some occasions this object showed IW And-type variation when the disk size was not large enough, but that the radius of the 3:1 resonance could be reached as the result of thermal instability. We also discuss that there are SU UMa-type dwarf novae above q=0.30, which is above the previously considered limit (q~0.25) derived from numerical simulations and that this is possible since the radius of the 3:1 resonance is inside the tidal truncation radius. We constrained the mass of the white dwarf larger than 1.0Msol, which may be responsible for the IW And-type behavior and the observed strength of the He II emission. The exact reason, however, why this object is unique in that it shows both SU UMa-type and IW And-type features is still unsolved.

These results illustrate that Seimei telescope has the capability to conduct quick follow-up observations of unknown transients. Our photometric observations yielded that 11 objects are WZ Sge-type dwarf novae and their candidates, and the other six objects are SU UMa-type dwarf novae and their candidates. The He II 4686Å~ emission line was clearly detected among ASASSN-19ado, TCP J06073081-0101501 and MASTER OT J213908.79+161240.2, whose association with a spiral arm structure in an accretion disk has been suggested in the previous studies. Our result suggests that a higher-inclination system shows a stronger emission line of He II 4686Å, as well as larger-amplitude early superhumps.

We report photometric and spectroscopic observations of the eclipsing SU UMa-type dwarf nova ASASSN-18aan. We observed the 2018 superoutburst with 2.3 mag brightening and found the orbital period ($P_{\rm orb}$) to be 0.149454(3) d, or 3.59 hr. This is longward of the period gap, establishing ASASSN-18aan as one of a small number of long-$P_{\rm orb}$ SU UMa-type dwarf novae. The estimated mass ratio, ($q=M_2/M_1 = 0.278(1)$), is almost identical to the upper limit of tidal instability by the 3:1 resonance. From eclipses, we found that the accretion disk at the onset of the superoutburst may reach the 3:1 resonance radius, suggesting that the superoutburst of ASASSN-18aan results from the tidal instability. Considering the case of long-$P_{\rm orb}$ WZ Sge-type dwarf novae, we suggest that the tidal dissipation at the tidal truncation radius is enough to induce SU UMa-like behavior in relatively high-$q$ systems such as SU UMa-type dwarf novae, but that this is no longer effective in low-$q$ systems such as WZ Sge-type dwarf novae. The unusual nature of the system extends to the secondary star, for which we find a spectral type of G9, much earlier than typical for the orbital period, and a secondary mass $M_2$ of around 0.18 M$_{\odot}$, smaller than expected for the orbital period and the secondary's spectral type. We also see indications of enhanced sodium abundance in the secondary's spectrum. Anomalously hot secondaries are seen in a modest number of other CVs and related objects. These systems evidently underwent significant nuclear evolution before the onset of mass transfer. In the case of ASASSN-18aan, this apparently resulted in a mass ratio lower than typically found at the system's $P_{\rm orb}$, which may account for the occurrence of a superoutburst at this relatively long period.

We report on the multi-wavelength photometry of the 2018 superoutburst in EG Cnc. We have detected stage A superhumps and long-lasting late-stage superhumps via the optical photometry and have constrained the binary mass ratio and its possible range. The median value of the mass ratio is 0.048 and the upper limit is 0.057, which still implies that EG Cnc is one of the possible candidates for the period bouncer. This object also showed multiple rebrightenings in this superoutburst, which are the same as those in its previous superoutburst in 1996--1997 despite the difference in the main superoutburst. This would represent that the rebrightening type is inherent to each object and is independent of the initial disk mass at the beginning of superoutbursts. We also found that $B-I$ and $J-K_{\rm S}$ colors were unusually red just before the rebrightening phase and became bluer during the quiescence between rebrightenings, which would mean that the low-temperature mass reservoir at the outermost disk accreted with time after the main superoutburst. Also, the ultraviolet flux was sensitive to rebrightenings as well as the optical flux, and the $U-B$ color became redder during the rebrightening phase, which would indicate that the inner disk became cooler when this object repeated rebrightenings. Our results thus basically support the idea that the cool mass reservoir in the outermost disk is responsible for rebrightenings.

We demonstrate a recognition and feature visualization method that uses a deep convolutional neural network for Raman spectrum analysis. The visualization is achieved by calculating important regions in the spectra from weights in pooling and fully-connected layers. The method is first examined for simple Lorentzian spectra, then applied to the spectra of pharmaceutical compounds and numerically mixed amino acids. We investigate the effects of the size and number of convolution filters on the extracted regions for Raman-peak signals using the Lorentzian spectra. It is confirmed that the Raman peak contributes to the recognition by visualizing the extracted features. A near-zero weight value is obtained at the background level region, which appears to be used for baseline correction. Common component extraction is confirmed by an evaluation of numerically mixed amino acid spectra. High weight values at the common peaks and negative values at the distinctive peaks appear, even though the model is given one-hot vectors as the training labels (without a mix ratio). This proposed method is potentially suitable for applications such as the validation of trained models, ensuring the reliability of common component extraction from compound samples for spectral analysis.

Charge acceleration during an intense light field application to solids attracts much attention as elementary processes in high-harmonic generation and photoelectron emission [1-7]. For manipulating such attosecond dynamics of charge, carrier-envelope-phase (CEP:relative phase between carrier oscillation of light field and its envelope function) control has been employed in insulators, nanometal and graphene [8-10]. In superconducting materials, collective control of charge motion is expected because of its strongly coherent nature of quasi-particles.
Here, in a layered organic superconductor, second harmonic generation (SHG) is observed by using a single-cycle 6 femtosecond near infrared pulse, which is in contrast to the common belief that even harmonics are forbidden in the centrosymmetric system. The SHG shows a CEP sensitive nature and an enhancement near the superconducting temperature. The result and its quantum many-body analysis indicate that a polarized current is induced by non-dissipative acceleration of charge, which is amplified by superconducting fluctuations. This will lead to petahertz functions of superconductors and of strongly correlated systems.

We study the tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) effect and magnetocrystalline anisotropy in a series of magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) with $L1_1$-ordered fcc ferromagnetic alloys and MgO barrier along the [111] direction. Considering the (111)-oriented MTJs with different $L1_1$ alloys, we calculate their TMR ratios and magnetocrystalline anisotropies on the basis of the first-principles calculations. The analysis shows that the MTJs with Co-based alloys (CoNi, CoPt, and CoPd) have high TMR ratios over 2000$\%$. These MTJs have energetically favored Co-O interfaces where interfacial antibonding between Co $d$ and O $p$ states is formed around the Fermi level. We find that the resonant tunneling of the antibonding states, called the interface resonant tunneling, is the origin of the obtained high TMR ratios. Our calculation of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy shows that many $L1_1$ alloys have large perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA). In particular, CoPt has the largest value of anisotropy energy $K_{\rm u} \approx 10\,{\rm MJ/m^3}$. We further conduct a perturbation analysis of the PMA with respect to the spin-orbit interaction and reveal that the large PMA in CoPt and CoNi mainly originates from spin-conserving perturbation processes around the Fermi level.

This object showed a 9-mag superoutburst with early superhumps and ordinary superhumps, which are the features of WZ Sge-type dwarf novae. Five rebrightenings were observed after the main superoutburst. The spectra during the post-superoutburst stage showed the Balmer, He I and possible sodium doublet features. The mass ratio is derived as 0.0880(9) from the period of the superhump. During the third and fifth rebrightenings, growing superhumps and superoutbursts were observed, which have never been detected during a rebrightening phase among WZ Sge-type dwarf novae with multiple rebrightenings. To induce a superoutburst during the brightening phase, the accretion disk was needed to expand beyond the 3:1 resonance radius of the system again after the main superoutburst. These peculiar phenomena can be explained by the enhanced viscosity and large radius of the disk suggested by the higher luminosity and the presence of late-stage superhumps during the post-superoutburst stage, plus by more mass supply from the cool mass reservoir and/or from the secondary because of the enhanced mass transfer than those of other WZ Sge-type dwarf novae.

The high TMR ratio is attributed to the interfacial resonance effect: The interfacial $d$-$p$ antibonding states are formed close to the Fermi level in the majority-spin channel and these states in both interfaces resonate with each other. This differs essentially from the conventional coherent tunneling mechanism of high TMR ratios in Fe(Co)/MgO/Fe(Co)(001).

This paper presents a visualization method of intestine (the small and large intestines) regions and their stenosed parts caused by ileus from CT volumes. Since it is difficult for non-expert clinicians to find stenosed parts, the intestine and its stenosed parts should be visualized intuitively. Furthermore, the intestine regions of ileus cases are quite hard to be segmented. The proposed method segments intestine regions by 3D FCN (3D U-Net). Intestine regions are quite difficult to be segmented in ileus cases since the inside the intestine is filled with fluids. These fluids have similar intensities with intestinal wall on 3D CT volumes. We segment the intestine regions by using 3D U-Net trained by a weak annotation approach. Weak-annotation makes possible to train the 3D U-Net with small manually-traced label images of the intestine. This avoids us to prepare many annotation labels of the intestine that has long and winding shape. Each intestine segment is volume-rendered and colored based on the distance from its endpoint in volume rendering. Stenosed parts (disjoint points of an intestine segment) can be easily identified on such visualization. In the experiments, we showed that stenosed parts were intuitively visualized as endpoints of segmented regions, which are colored by red or blue.

IW And stars are a recently recognized group of dwarf novae which are characterized by a repeated sequence of brightening from a standstill-like phase with dam** oscillations followed by a deep dip. Kimura et al. (2019) recently proposed a model based on thermal-viscous disk instability in a tilted disk to reproduce the IW And-type characteristics. IM Eri experienced the IW And-type phase in 2018 and we recorded three cycles of the (dam**) oscillation phase terminated by brightening. We identified two periods during the IW And-type state: 4-5 d small-amplitude (often dam**) oscillations and a 34-43 d long cycle. This behavior is typical for an IW And-type star. The object gradually brightened within the long cycle before the next brightening which terminated the (dam**) oscillation phase. This observation agrees with the increasing disk mass during the long cycle predicted by a model of thermal-viscous disk instability in a tilted disk (Kimura et al. 2019). We, however, did not succeed in detecting negative superhumps, which are considered to be the signature of a tilted disk.

It was observed with 18 telescopes at 15 sites during ~70 nights within a three-month interval. Observations covered the main outburst, six rebrightenings and 50-d decline to a near-quiescent state. We identify ASASSN-18fk as WZ Sge-type dwarf nova with multiple rebrightenings and show the evolution of the 0.06-d superhump period over all stages of the superoutburst. A strong 22-min brightness modulation that superimposed on superhumps is found during rebrightenings and decline. Some evidence of this modulation in a form of a sideband signal is detected during the very onset of the outburst. We interpret the 22-min modulation as a spin period of the white dwarf and suggest that ASASSN-18fk is a good candidate for a superhum** intermediate polar.

We have demonstrated transient charge localization effects with a driving high-frequency field of 7-fs, 1.5-cycle near infrared light in correlated organic conductors. In a layered organic conductor alpha-(BEDT-TTF)2I3 (BEDT-TTF: bis[ethylenedithio]-tetrathiafulvalene), a transient short-range charge order (CO) state is induced in a metallic phase. In contrast to such drastic change in the electronic state from the metal to the transient CO in alpha-(BEDT-TTF)2I3, dynamics of a field-induced reduction of a transfer integral are captured as a red shift of the plasma-like reflectivity edge in a quasi-one-dimensional organic conductor (TMTTF)2AsF6 (TMTTF: tetramethyltetrathiafulvalene). These studies on the field-induced charge localization have been motivated by the theory of dynamical localization on the basis of tight-binding models with no electron correlation under a strong continuous field. However, the results of pump-probe transient reflectivity measurements using nearly single-cycle 7-fs, 11 MV/cm pulses and the theoretical studies which are presented in this review indicate that the pulsed field contributes to the similar phenomenon with the help of a characteristic lattice structure and Coulomb repulsion.

Intense light-field application to solids produces enormous/ultrafast non-linear phenomena such as high-harmonic generations 1, 2 and attosecond charge dynamics 3, 4. They are distinct from conventional photonics. However, main targets have been limited to insulators and semiconductors, although theoretical approaches have been made also for correlated metals and superconductors 5. Here, in a layered organic superconductor, a non-linear charge oscillation driven by a nearly single-cycle strong electric field of >10 megavolts /cm is observed as a stimulated emission. The charge oscillation is different from a linear response and ascribed to a polar charge oscillation with a period of 6 fs. This non-linear polar charge oscillation is enhanced by critical fluctuations near a superconducting transition temperature and a critical end point of first order Mott transitions. Its observation on an ultrafast timescale of 10 fs clarifies that the Coulomb repulsion plays an essential role in superconductivity of organic superconductors.

There are several peculiar long-period dwarf-nova like objects, which show rare, low-amplitude outbursts with highly ionized emission lines. 1SWASP J162117$+$441254, BD Pav, and V364 Lib belong to this kind of objects. Some researchers even doubt whether 1SWASP J1621 and V364 Lib have the same nature as normal dwarf novae. We studied the peculiar outbursts in these three objects via our optical photometry and spectroscopy, and performed numerical modeling of their orbital variations to investigate their properties. We found that their outbursts lasted for a long interval (a few tens of days), and that slow rises in brightness were commonly observed during the early stage of their outbursts. Our analyses and numerical modeling suggest that 1SWASP J1621 has a very high inclination, close to 90 deg, plus a faint hot spot. Although BD Pav seems to have a slightly lower inclination ($\sim$75 deg), the other properties are similar to those in 1SWASP J1621. On the other hand, V364 Lib appears to have a massive white dwarf, a hot companion star, and a low inclination ($\sim$35 deg). In addition, these three objects possibly have low transfer rate and/or large disks originating from the long orbital periods. We find that these properties of the three objects can explain their infrequent and low-amplitude outbursts within the context of the disk instability model in normal dwarf novae without strong magnetic field. In addition, we suggest that the highly-ionized emission lines in outburst are observed due to a high inclination and/or a massive white dwarf. More instances of this class of object may be unrecognized, since their unremarkable outbursts can be easily overlooked.

We present optical photometry of superoutbursts in 2016 of two WZ Sge-type dwarf novae (DNe), ASASSN-16dt and ASASSN-16hg. Their light curves showed a dip in brightness between the first plateau stage with no ordinary superhumps (or early superhumps) and the second plateau stage with ordinary superhumps. We find that the dip is produced by slow evolution of the 3:1 resonance tidal instability and that it would be likely observed in low mass-ratio objects. The estimated mass ratio ($q \equiv M_{2}/M_{1}$) from the period of develo** (stage A) superhumps (0.06420(3) d) was 0.036(2) in ASASSN-16dt. Additionally, its superoutburst has many properties similar to those in other low-$q$ WZ Sge-type DNe: long-lasting stage A superhumps, small superhump amplitudes, long delay of ordinary superhump appearance, and slow decline rate in the plateau stage with superhumps. The very small mass ratio and observational characteristics suggest that this system is one of the best candidates for a period bouncer -- a binary accounting for the missing population of post-period minimum cataclysmic variables. Although it is not clearly verified due to the lack of detection of stage A superhumps, ASASSN-16hg might be a possible candidate for a period bouncer on the basis of the morphology of its light curves and the small superhump amplitudes. Many outburst properties of period-bouncer candidates would originate from the small tidal effects by their secondary stars.

We detected superhumps with a period of 0.061181(42) d between the precursor and main superoutburst. Based on analyses of period changes and amplitudes of superhumps, the observed superhumps were identified as growing superhumps (stage A superhumps). The duration of stage A superhumps was about 5 d, unusually long for SU UMa-type dwarf novae. Using the obtained stage A superhump period, we estimated the mass ratio of QZ Vir to be 0.108(3). This value suggests that QZ Vir is an SU UMa-type dwarf nova evolving toward the period minimum. Based on the present and the previous observations regarding long-lasting stage A superhumps, a time scale of stage A superhumps is likely to be determined by the mass ratio of the system and the temperature of the accretion disk.

Classical novae are runaway thermonuclear burning events on the surfaces of accreting white dwarfs in close binary star systems, sometimes appearing as new naked-eye sources in the night sky. The standard model of novae predicts that their optical luminosity derives from energy released near the hot white dwarf which is reprocessed through the ejected material. Recent studies with the Fermi Large Area Telescope have shown that many classical novae are accompanied by gigaelectronvolt gamma-ray emission. This emission likely originates from strong shocks, providing new insights into the properties of nova outflows and allowing them to be used as laboratories to study the unknown efficiency of particle acceleration in shocks. Here we report gamma-ray and optical observations of the Milky Way nova ASASSN-16ma, which is among the brightest novae ever detected in gamma-rays. The gamma-ray and optical light curves show a remarkable correlation, implying that the majority of the optical light comes from reprocessed emission from shocks rather than the white dwarf. The ratio of gamma-ray to optical flux in ASASSN-16ma directly constrains the acceleration efficiency of non-thermal particles to be ~0.005, favouring hadronic models for the gamma-ray emission. The need to accelerate particles up to energies exceeding 100 gigaelectronvolts provides compelling evidence for magnetic field amplification in the shocks.

We report on our photometric observations of the 2016 superoutburst of ASASSN-16eg. This object showed a WZ Sge-type superoutburst with prominent early superhumps with a period of 0.075478(8) d and a post-superoutburst rebrightening. During the superoutburst plateau, it showed ordinary superhumps with a period of 0.077880(3) d and a period derivative of 10.6(1.1) $\times$ 10$^{-5}$ in stage B. The orbital period ($P_{\rm orb}$), which is almost identical with the period of early superhumps, is exceptionally long for a WZ Sge-type dwarf nova. The mass ratio ($q$ = $M_2/M_1$) estimated from the period of develo** (stage A) superhumps is 0.166(2), which is also very large for a WZ Sge-type dwarf nova. This suggests that the 2:1 resonance can be reached in such high-$q$ systems, contrary to our expectation. Such conditions are considered to be achieved if the mass-transfer rate is much lower than those in typical SU UMa-type dwarf novae that have comparable orbital periods to ASASSN-16eg and a resultant accumulation of a large amount of matter on the disk is realized at the onset of an outburst. We examined other candidates of long-period WZ Sge-type dwarf novae for their supercycles, which are considered to reflect the mass-transfer rate, and found that V1251 Cyg and RZ Leo have longer supercycles than those of other WZ Sge-type dwarf novae. This result indicates that these long-period objects including ASASSN-16eg have a low mass-transfer rate in comparison to other WZ Sge-type dwarf novae.

We present optical multi-colour photometry of V404 Cyg during the outburst from December, 2015 to January, 2016 together with the simultaneous X-ray data. This outburst occurred less than 6 months after the previous outburst in June-July, 2015. These two outbursts in 2015 were of a slow rise and rapid decay-type and showed large-amplitude ($\sim$2 mag) and short-term ($\sim$10 min-3 hours) optical variations even at low luminosity (0.01-0.1$L_{\rm Edd}$). We found correlated optical and X-ray variations in two $\sim$1 hour time intervals and performed Bayesian time delay estimations between them. In the previous version, the observation times of X-ray light curves were measured at the satellite and their system of times was Terrestrial Time (TT), while those of optical light curves were measured at the Earth and their system of times was Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). In this version, we have corrected the observation times and obtained a Bayesian estimate of an optical delay against the X-ray emission, which is $\sim$30 s, during those two intervals. In addition, the relationship between the optical and X-ray luminosity was $L_{\rm opt} \propto L_{\rm X}^{0.25-0.29}$ at that time. These features can be naturally explained by disc reprocessing.

(2009, arXiv:0905.1757), we collected times of superhump maxima for 127 SU UMa-type dwarf novae observed mainly during the 2016--2017 season and characterized these objects. We provide updated statistics of relation between the orbital period and the variation of superhumps, the relation between period variations and the rebrightening type in WZ Sge-type objects. We obtained the period minimum of 0.05290(2)d and confirmed the presence of the period gap above the orbital period ~0.09d. We note that four objects (NY Her, 1RXS J161659.5+620014, CRTS J033349.8-282244 and SDSS J153015.04+094946.3) have supercycles shorter than 100d but show infrequent normal outbursts. We consider that these objects are similar to V503 Cyg, whose normal outbursts are likely suppressed by a disk tilt. These four objects are excellent candidates to search for negative superhumps. DDE 48 appears to be a member of ER UMa-type dwarf novae. We identified a new eclipsing SU UMa-type object MASTER OT J220559.40-341434.9. We observed 21 WZ Sge-type dwarf novae during this interval and reported 18 out of them in this paper. Among them, ASASSN-16js is a good candidate for a period bouncer. ASASSN-16ia showed a precursor outburst for the first time in a WZ Sge-type superoutburst. ASASSN-16kg, CRTS J000130.5+050624 and SDSS J113551.09+532246.2 are located in the period gap. We have newly obtained 15 orbital periods, including periods from early superhumps.

Dependences of transient reflectivity spectra on polarizations of the 7-fs pump and probe lights indicate that a short-range charge order (CO) is efficiently induced from the metallic phase for the pump polarization perpendicular to the 1010-type CO axis. Numerical solution of a time-dependent Schrodinger equation clarified that the 1010-CO is induced by field-induced re-distribution of charges cooperating with competing inter-site Coulomb repulsions in the triangular lattice.

It showed superhump evolution similar to short-period SU UMa-type dwarf novae. We could constrain the mass ratio to less than 0.15 (most likely between 0.10 and 0.15) by using superhump periods in the early and post-superoutburst stages. These results suggest the possibility that OT J002656.6+284933 has an anomalously undermassive secondary and it should have passed a different evolutionary track from the standard one.

In this outburst, we observed early superhumps and growing (stage A) superhumps with periods of 0.050454(2) and 0.051809(13) d, respectively. We estimated that the mass ratio of secondary to primary ($q$) is 0.0699(8) by using $P_{\rm orb}$ and a superhump period $P_{\rm SH}$ of stage A. ASASSN-15po [$P_{\rm orb} \sim$ 72.6 min] is the first DN with the orbital period between 67--76 min. Although the theoretical predicted period minimum $P_{\rm min}$ of hydrogen-rich cataclysmic variables (CVs) is about 65--70 min, the observational cut-off of the orbital period distribution at 80 min implies that the period minimum is about 82 min, and the value is widely accepted. We suggest the following four possibilities: the object is (1) a theoretical period minimum object (2) a binary with a evolved secondary (3) a binary with a metal-poor (Popullation II) seconday (4) a binary which was born with a brown-dwarf donor below the period minimum.

We observed RZ LMi, which is renowned for the extremely (~19d) short supercycle and is a member of a small, unusual class of cataclysmic variables called ER UMa-type dwarf novae, in 2013 and 2016. In 2016, the supercycles of this object substantially lengthened in comparison to the previous measurements to 35, 32, 60d for three consecutive superoutbursts. We consider that the object virtually experienced a transition to the novalike state (permanent superhumper). This observed behavior extremely well reproduced the prediction of the thermal-tidal instability model. We detected a precursor in the 2016 superoutburst and detected growing (stage A) superhumps with a mean period of 0.0602(1)d in 2016 and in 2013. Combined with the period of superhumps immediately after the superoutburst, the mass ratio is not as small as in WZ Sge-type dwarf novae, having orbital periods similar to RZ LMi. By using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso) two-dimensional power spectra, we detected possible negative superhumps with a period of 0.05710(1)d. We estimated the orbital period of 0.05792d, which suggests a mass ratio of 0.105(5). This relatively large mass ratio is even above ordinary SU UMa-type dwarf novae, and it is also possible that the exceptionally high mass-transfer rate in RZ LMi may be a result of a stripped core evolved secondary which are evolving toward an AM CVn-type object.

Continuing the project described by Kato et al. (2009, arXiv:0905.1757), we collected times of superhump maxima for 128 SU UMa-type dwarf novae observed mainly during the 2015-2016 season and characterized these objects. The data have improved the distribution of orbital periods, the relation between the orbital period and the variation of superhumps, the relation between period variations and the rebrightening type in WZ Sge-type objects. Coupled with new measurements of mass ratios using growing stages of superhumps, we now have a clearer and statistically greatly improved evolutionary path near the terminal stage of evolution of cataclysmic variables. Three objects (V452 Cas, KK Tel, ASASSN-15cl) appear to have slowly growing superhumps, which is proposed to reflect the slow growth of the 3:1 resonance near the stability border. ASASSN-15sl, ASASSN-15ux, SDSS J074859.55+312512.6 and CRTS J200331.3-284941 are newly identified eclipsing SU UMa-type (or WZ Sge-type) dwarf novae. ASASSN-15cy has a short (~0.050 d) superhump period and appears to belong to EI Psc-type objects with compact secondaries having an evolved core. ASASSN-15gn, ASASSN-15hn, ASASSN-15kh and ASASSN-16bu are candidate period bouncers with superhump periods longer than 0.06 d. We have newly obtained superhump periods for 79 objects and 13 orbital periods, including periods from early superhumps. In order that the future observations will be more astrophysically beneficial and rewarding to observers, we propose guidelines how to organize observations of various superoutbursts.

We report on two superoutbursts of the AM CVn-type object CR Boo in 2014 April--March and 2015 May--June. A precursor outburst acompanied both of these superoutbursts. During the rising branch of the main superoutburst in 2014, we detected growing superhumps (stage A superhumps) whose period was $0.017669(24)$ d. Assuming that this period reflects the dynamical precession rate at the radius of the 3:1 resonance, we could estimate the mass ratio ($q=M_2/M_1$) of 0.101(4) by using the stage A superhump period and the orbital one of 0.0170290(6) d. This mass ratio is consistent with that expected by the theoretical evolutionary model of AM CVn-type objects. The detection of precursor outbursts and stage A superhumps is the second case in AM CVn-type objects. There are two interpretations of the outbursts of AM CVn-type objects. One is a dwarf nova (DN) outbursts analogy, which is caused by thermal and tidal instabilities. Another is the VY Scl-type variation, which is caused by the variation of the mass-transfer rate of the secondary. This detection of the superhump variations strongly suggests the former interpretation.

We present optical photometry of a WZ Sge-type dwarf nova (DN), ASASSN-15jd. Its light curve showed a small dip in the middle of the superoutburst in 2015 for the first time among WZ Sge-type DNe. The unusual light curve implies a delay in the growth of the 3:1 resonance tidal instability. Also, the light curve is similar to those of other two WZ Sge-type stars, SSS J122221.7$-$311523 and OT J184228.1$+$483742, which are believed to be the best candidates for a period bouncer on the basis of their small values of the mass ratio ($q \equiv M_{2}/M_{1}$). Additionally, the small mean superhump amplitude ($<$ 0.1 mag) and the long duration of no ordinary superhumps at the early stage of the superoutburst are common to the best candidates for a period bouncer. The average superhump period was $P_{\rm sh}$ = 0.0649810(78) d and no early superhumps were detected. Although we could not estimate the mass ratio of ASASSN-15jd with high accuracy, this object is expected to be a candidate for a period bouncer, a binary accounting for the missing population of post-period minimum cataclysmic variables, based on the above characteristics.

We observed the first-ever recorded outburst of PM J03338+3320, the cataclysmic variable selected by proper-motion survey. The outburst was composed of a precursor and the main superoutburst. The precursor outburst occurred at least 5 d before the maximum of the main superoutburst. Despite this separation, long-period superhumps were continuously seen between the precursor and main superoutburst. The period of these superhumps is longer than the orbital period by 6.0(1)% and can be interpreted to reflect the dynamical precession rate at the 3:1 resonance for a mass ratio of 0.172(4). These superhumps smoothly evolved into those in the main superoutburst. These observations provide the clearest evidence that the 3:1 resonance is triggered by the precursor outburst, even if it is well separated, and the resonance eventually causes the main superoutburst as predicted by the thermal-tidal instability model. The presence of superhumps well before the superoutburst cannot be explained by alternative models (the enhanced mass-transfer model and the pure thermal instability model) and the present observations give a clear support to the thermal-tidal instability model.

The strong light-field effect of (TMTTF)2AsF6 was investigated utilizing 1.5-cycle, 7-fs infrared pulses. The ultarfast (20 fs) and large (40%) response of the plasma-like reflectivity edge (0.7 eV) was analyzed by the changes in omega_p=sqrt(ne2/(epsilon_0*epsilon(infty)*m)} (n: number of charges in the 1/4 filled-band, m: mass of charge, epsilon(infty): dielectric constants for high-frequency and vacuum, e: elementary charge). The 3% reduction in omega_p is attributed to the 6% increase in m. Furthermore, 20 fs oscillation of omega_p in the time domain indicates that the plasma-like edge is affected by the charge gap (0.2 eV) nature. Theoretical calculations suggest that the Coulomb repulsion plays an important role in the increase in m.

We observed the 2015 July-August long outburst of V1006 Cyg and established this object to be an SU UMa-type dwarf nova in the period gap. Our observations have confirmed that V1006 Cyg is the second established object showing three types of outbursts (normal, long normal and superoutbursts) after TU Men. We have succeeded in recording the growing stage of superhumps (stage A superhumps) and obtained a mass ratio of 0.26-0.33, which is close to the stability limit of tidal instability. This identification of stage A superhumps demonstrated that superhumps indeed slowly grow in systems near the stability limit, the idea first introduced by Kato et al. 2014, arXiv:1406.6428). The superoutburst showed a temporary dip followed by a rebrightening. The moment of the dip coincided with the stage transition of superhumps, and we suggest that stage C superhumps is related to the start of the cooling wave in the accretion disk. We interpret that the tidal instability was not strong enough to maintain the disk in the hot state when the cooling wave started. We propose that the properties commonly seen in the extreme ends of mass ratios (WZ Sge-type objects and long-period systems) can be understood as a result of weak tidal effect.

Continuing the project described by Kato et al. (2009, arXiv:0905.1757), we collected times of superhump maxima for 102 SU UMa-type dwarf novae observed mainly during the 2014-2015 season and characterized these objects. Our project has greatly improved the statistics of the distribution of orbital periods, which is a good approximation of the distribution of cataclysmic variables at the terminal evolutionary stage, and confirmed the presence of a period minimum at a period of 0.053 d and a period spike just above this period. The number density monotonically decreased toward the longer period and there was no strong indication of a period gap. We detected possible negative superhumps in Z Cha. It is possible that normal outbursts are also suppressed by the presence of a disk tilt in this system. There was no indication of enhanced orbital humps just preceding the superoutburst, and this result favors the thermal-tidal disk instability as the origin of superoutbursts. We detected superhumps in three AM CVn-type dwarf novae. Our observations and recent other detections suggest that 8% of objects showing dwarf nova-type outbursts are AM CVn-type objects. AM CVn-type objects and EI Psc-type object may be more abundant than previously recognized. OT J213806, a WZ Sge-type object, exhibited a remarkably different feature between the 2010 and 2014 superoutbursts. Although the 2014 superoutburst was much fainter the plateau phase was shorter than the 2010 one, the course of the rebrightening phase was similar. This object indicates that the O-C diagrams of superhumps can be indeed variable at least in WZ Sge-type objects. Four deeply eclipsing SU UMa-type dwarf novae (ASASSN-13cx, ASASSN-14ag, ASASSN-15bu, NSV 4618) were identified. We studied long-term trends in supercycles in MM Hya and CY UMa and found systematic variations of supercycles of ~20%.

Dynamical localization, i.e., reduction of the intersite electronic transfer integral t by an alternating electric field, E(omega) , is a promising strategy for controlling strongly correlated systems with a competing energy balance between t and the Coulomb repulsion energy. Here we describe a charge localization induced by the 9.3 MV/cm instantaneous electric field of a 1.5 cycle (7 fs) infrared pulse in an organic conductor alpha-(bis[ethylenedithio]-tetrathiafulvelene)_2I_3. A large reflectivity change of > 25% and a coherent charge oscillation along the time axis reflect the opening of the charge ordering gap in the metallic phase. This optical freezing of charges, which is the reverse of the photoinduced melting of electronic orders, is attributed to the 10% reduction of t driven by the strong, high-frequency (omega>t/h_bar) electric field.

These objects showed a very long growing stage of the superhump (stage A) and a large period decrease in stage A-B transition. The long stage A suggests slow evolution of the superhump due to very small mass ratios of these objects. The decline rates during the plateau phase in the superoutburst of these objects were lower than those of SU UMa-type DNe with a similar superhump period. These properties were similar to those of SSS J122221.7-311523, the best candidate for the period bouncer. Therefore, these two DNe are regarded as good candidates for the period bouncer. We estimated the number density of period bouncers roughly from our observations in the recent five years. There is a possibility that these WZ Sge-type dwarf novae with unusual outburst properties can account for the missing population of the period bouncer expected from the evolutionary scenario.

During the rising branch of the main superoutburst, we detected growing superhumps (stage A superhumps) with a period of 0.03409(1) d. During the plateau phase of the superoutburst, superhumps with a shorter period (stage B superhumps) were observed. Using the orbital period and the period of the stage A superhumps, we were able to measure the dynamical precession rate of the accretion disk at the 3:1 resonance, and obtained a mass ratio (q) of 0.041(7). This is the first successful measurement of the mass ratio in an AM CVn-type object using the recently developed stage A superhump method. The value is generally in good agreement with the theoretical evolutionary model. The orbital period of J0902 is the longest among the outbursting AM CVn-type objects, and the borderline between the outbursting systems and systems with stable cool disks appears to be longer than had been supposed.

Continuing the project described by Kato et al. We detected negative superhumps in VW Hyi and indicated that the low number of normal outbursts in some supercycle can be interpreted as a result of the disk tilt. This finding, combined with the Kepler observation of V1504 Cyg and V344 Lyr, suggests that the disk tilt is responsible for modulating the outburst pattern in SU UMa-type dwarf novae. We also studied the deeply eclipsing WZ Sge-type dwarf nova MASTER OT J005740.99+443101.5 and found evidence of a sharp eclipse during the phase of early superhumps. The profile can be reproduced by a combination of the eclipse of the axisymmetric disk and the uneclipsed light source of early superhumps. This finding confirms the lack of evince of a greatly enhanced hot spot during the early stage of WZ Sge-type outburst. We detected growing (stage A) superhumps in MN Dra and give a suggestion that some of SU UMa-type dwarf novae situated near the critical condition of tidal instability may show long-lasting stage A superhumps. The large negative period derivatives reported in such systems can be understood a result of the combination of stage A and B superhumps. The WZ Sge-type dwarf novae AL Com and ASASSN-13ck showed a long-lasting (plateau-type) rebrightening. In the early phase of the rebrightening, both objects showed a precursor-like outburst, suggesting that the long-lasting rebrightening is triggered by a precursor outburst.

We carried out the photometric observations of the SU UMa-type dwarf nova ER UMa during 2011 and 2012, which showed the existence of persistent negative superhumps even during the superoutburst. We performed two-dimensional period analysis of its light curves by using a method called "least absolute shrinkage and selection operator" (Lasso) and "phase dispersion minimization" (PDM) analysis, and we found that the period of negative superhumps systematically changed between a superoutburst and the next superoutburst. The trend of the period change can beinterpreted as reflecting the change of the disk radius. This change of the disk radius is in good agreement with the predicted change of the disk radius by the thermal-tidal instability (TTI) model. The normal outbursts within a supercycle showed a general trend that the rising rate to maximum becomes slower as the next superoutburst approaches. The change can be interpreted as the consequence of the increased gas-stream flow onto the inner region of the disk as the result of the tilted disk. Some of the superoutbursts were found to be triggered by a precursor normal outburst when the positive superhumps appeared to develop. The positive and negative superhumps co-existed during the superoutburst. The positive superhumps were prominent only during four or five days after the supermaximum, while the signal of the negative superhumps became strong after the middle phase of the superoutburst plateau. A simple combination of the positive and negative superhumps was found to be insufficient in reproducing the complex profile variation. We were able to detect the develo** phase of positive superhumps (stage A superhumps) for the first time in ER UMa-type dwarf novae. Using the period of stage A superhumps, we obtained a mass ratio of 0.100(15), which indicates that ER UMa is on the ordinary evolutional track of CVs.
