As Smart Meters are collecting and transmitting household energy consumption data to Retail Energy Providers (REP), the main challenge is to ensure the effective use of fine-grained consumer data while ensuring data privacy. In this manuscript, we tackle this challenge for energy load consumption forecasting in regards to REPs which is essential to energy demand management, load switching and infrastructure development. Specifically, we note that existing energy load forecasting is centralized, which are not scalable and most importantly, vulnerable to data privacy threats. Besides, REPs are individual market participants and liable to ensure the privacy of their own customers. To address this issue, we propose a novel horizontal privacy-preserving federated learning framework for REPs energy load forecasting, namely FedREP. We consider a federated learning system consisting of a control centre and multiple retailers by enabling multiple REPs to build a common, robust machine learning model without sharing data, thus addressing critical issues such as data privacy, data security and scalability. For forecasting, we use a state-of-the-art Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network due to its ability to learn long term sequences of observations and promises of higher accuracy with time-series data while solving the vanishing gradient problem. Finally, we conduct extensive data-driven experiments using a real energy consumption dataset. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed federated learning framework can achieve sufficient performance in terms of MSE ranging between 0.3 to 0.4 and is relatively similar to that of a centralized approach while preserving privacy and improving scalability.

We took advantage of a monitoring campaign performed with NuSTAR, Swift/XRT, AstroSat and NICER, to follow the Be/X-ray Binary 2S 1553-542 along one of its rare outbursts and trace its spectral and timing evolution. We report the discovery of a luminosity-dependent cyclotron line energy for the first time in this source. The pulse profiles and pulsed fraction also show variability along the outburst, consistently with the interpretation that the source transitions from the sub-critical to the super-critical accretion regime, separated by a critical luminosity of L$_{crit}\approx4\times10^{37}$ erg/s.

With the proliferation of smart devices and revolutions in communications, electrical distribution systems are gradually shifting from passive, manually-operated and inflexible ones, to a massively interconnected cyber-physical smart grid to address the energy challenges of the future. However, the integration of several cutting-edge technologies has introduced several security and privacy vulnerabilities due to the large-scale complexity and resource limitations of deployments. Recent research trends have shown that False Data Injection (FDI) attacks are becoming one of the most malicious cyber threats within the entire smart grid paradigm. Therefore, this paper presents a comprehensive survey of the recent advances in FDI attacks within active distribution systems and proposes a taxonomy to classify the FDI threats with respect to smart grid targets. The related studies are contrasted and summarized in terms of the attack methodologies and implications on the electrical power distribution networks. Finally, we identify some research gaps and recommend a number of future research directions to guide and motivate prospective researchers.

We have synthesized MoS$_{2}$ incorporated $α$-Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$/ZnO nanocomposites by the hydrothermal process. The effect of incorporating ultrasonically exfoliated MoS$_{2}$ on the photocatalytic performance of $α$-Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$/ZnO nanocomposites has been demonstrated. Structural, morphological and optical characteristics of the nanomaterials are investigated by performing Rietveld refinement of powder X-ray diffraction patterns, field emission scanning electron microscopy and UV-visible spectroscopy. The photoluminescence spectra of the nanocomposites show that the recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs is suppressed due to incorporating MoS$_{2}$ nanosheets. The ultrasonicated MoS$_{2}$ incorporated $α$-Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$/ZnO nanocomposite shows 91% and 83% efficiency to degrade RhB dye and antibiotic ciprofloxacin under solar illumination. Active species trap** experiments reveal that the hydroxyl radicals play a significant role in RhB degradation. Likewise, the dye degradation efficiency, the amount of hydrogen produced by this nanocomposite via photocatalytic water splitting is also higher as compared to non-ultrasonicated MoS$_{2}$ incorporated $α$-Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$/ZnO and $α$-Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$/ZnO nanocomposites as well as Degussa P25 titania nanoparticles. This indicates the promising potential of the incorporation of ultrasonicated MoS$_{2}$ with $α$-Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$/ZnO nanocomposite for generation of carbon-free hydrogen by water splitting. The substantial increase in the photocatalytic efficiency of $α$-Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$/ZnO after incorporation of ultrasonicated MoS$_{2}$ can be attributed to its favorable band structure, large surface to volume ratio, effective segregation and migration of photogenerated electron-hole pairs at the interface of heterojunction and the active edge sites provided by few-layer MoS$_{2}$ nanosheets.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shaken the world and limited work/personal life activities. Besides the loss of human lives and agony faced by humankind, the pandemic has badly hit different sectors economically, including the travel industry. Special arrangements, including COVID test before departure and on arrival, and voluntary quarantine, were enforced to limit the risk of transmission. However, the hope for returning to a normal (pre-COVID) routine relies on the success of the current COVID vaccination drives administered by different countries. To open for tourism and other necessary travel, a need is realized for a universally accessible proof of COVID vaccination, allowing travelers to cross the borders without any hindrance. This paper presents an architectural framework for a GDPR-compliant blockchain-based COVID vaccination passport (VacciFi), whilst considering the relevant developments, especially in the European Union region.

Pulmonary embolism (PE) represents a thrombus ("blood clot"), usually originating from a lower extremity vein, that travels to the blood vessels in the lung, causing vascular obstruction and in some patients, death. This disorder is commonly diagnosed using CT pulmonary angiography (CTPA). Deep learning holds great promise for the computer-aided CTPA diagnosis (CAD) of PE. However, numerous competing methods for a given task in the deep learning literature exist, causing great confusion regarding the development of a CAD PE system. To address this confusion, we present a comprehensive analysis of competing deep learning methods applicable to PE diagnosis using CTPA at the both image and exam levels. At the image level, we compare convolutional neural networks (CNNs) with vision transformers, and contrast self-supervised learning (SSL) with supervised learning, followed by an evaluation of transfer learning compared with training from scratch. At the exam level, we focus on comparing conventional classification (CC) with multiple instance learning (MIL). Our extensive experiments consistently show: (1) transfer learning consistently boosts performance despite differences between natural images and CT scans, (2) transfer learning with SSL surpasses its supervised counterparts; (3) CNNs outperform vision transformers, which otherwise show satisfactory performance; and (4) CC is, surprisingly, superior to MIL. Compared with the state of the art, our optimal approach provides an AUC gain of 0.2\% and 1.05\% for image-level and exam-level, respectively.

During the last three decades, shrimp has remained one of the major export items in Bangladesh. It contributes to the development of this country by enhancing export earnings and promoting employment. However, coastal wetlands and agricultural lands are used for shrimp culture, which reduces agricultural opportunity and peasants income, and destroys the mangroves and coastal eco-system. These are the external environmental costs that are not reflected in farmers price and output decisions. This study has aimed to estimate those external environmental costs through the contingent valuation method. The calculated environmental cost of shrimp farming is USD 13.66 per acre per year. Findings suggest that current shrimp production and shrimp price will no longer be optimal once the external costs are internalized. Thus alternative policy recommendations have been proposed so that shrimp farming becomes a sustainable and equitable means of aquaculture.

This paper formulates the problem of dynamically identifying key topics with proper labels from COVID-19 Tweets to provide an overview of wider public opinion. Nowadays, social media is one of the best ways to connect people through Internet technology, which is also considered an essential part of our daily lives. In late December 2019, an outbreak of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19 was reported, and the World Health Organization declared an emergency due to its rapid spread all over the world. The COVID-19 epidemic has affected the use of social media by many people across the globe. Twitter is one of the most influential social media services, which has seen a dramatic increase in its use from the epidemic. Thus dynamic extraction of specific topics with labels from tweets of COVID-19 is a challenging issue for highlighting conversation instead of manual topic labeling approach. In this paper, we propose a framework that automatically identifies the key topics with labels from the tweets using the top Unigram feature of aspect terms cluster from Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) generated topics. Our experiment result shows that this dynamic topic identification and labeling approach is effective having the accuracy of 85.48\% with respect to the manual static approach.

Nanoelectronic devices emulating neuro-synaptic functionalities through their intrinsic physics at low operating energies is imperative toward the realization of brain-like neuromorphic computers. In this work, we leverage the non-linear voltage dependent partial polarization switching of a ferroelectric field effect transistor to mimic plasticity characteristics of biological synapses. We provide experimental measurements of the synaptic characteristics for a $28nm$ high-k metal gate technology based device and develop an experimentally calibrated device model for large-scale system performance prediction. Decoupled read-write paths, ultra-low programming energies and the possibility of arranging such devices in a cross-point architecture demonstrate the synaptic efficacy of the device. Our hardware-algorithm co-design analysis reveals that the intrinsic plasticity of the ferroelectric devices has potential to enable unsupervised local learning in edge devices with limited training data.

Gradient-free optimization methods, such as surrogate based optimization (SBO) methods, and genetic (GAs), or evolutionary (EAs) algorithms have gained popularity in the field of constrained optimization of expensive black-box functions. However, constraint-handling methods, by both classes of solvers, do not usually guarantee strictly feasible candidates during optimization. This can become an issue in applied engineering problems where design variables must remain feasible for simulations to not fail. We propose a constraint-handling method for computationally inexpensive constraint functions which guarantees strictly feasible candidates when using a surrogate-based optimizer. We compare our method to other SBO, GA/EA and gradient-based algorithms on two (relatively simple and relatively hard) analytical test functions, and an applied fully-resolved Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) problem concerned with optimization of an undulatory swimming of a fish-like body, and show that the proposed algorithm shows favorable results while guaranteeing feasible candidates.

Single crystals of the three-dimensional frustrated magnet and spin liquid candidate compound PbCuTe$_2$O$_6$ were grown using both the Travelling Solvent Floating Zone (TSFZ) and the Top-Seeded Solution Growth (TSSG) techniques. The growth conditions were optimized by investigating the thermal properties. The quality of the crystals was checked by polarized optical microscopy, X-ray Laue and X-ray powder diffraction, and compared to the polycrystalline samples. Excellent quality crystals were obtained by the TSSG method. Magnetic measurements of these crystals revealed a small anisotropy for different crystallographic directions in comparison with the previously reported data. The heat capacity of both single crystal and powder samples reveal a transition anomaly around 1 K. Curiously the position and magnitude of the transition are strongly dependent on the crystallite size and it is almost entirely absent for the smallest crystallites. A structural transition is suggested which accompanies the reported ferroelectric transition, and a scenario whereby it becomes energetically unfavourable in small crystallites is proposed.

In magnetic Cataclysmic Variables (mCVs), X-ray radiation originates from the shock heated multi-temperature plasma in the post-shock region near the white dwarf surface. These X-rays are modified by a complex distribution of absorbers in the pre-shock region. The presence of photo-ionized lines and warm absorber features in the soft X-ray spectra of these mCVs suggests that these absorbers are ionized. We developed the ionized complex absorber model zxipab, which is represented by a power-law distribution of ionized absorbers in the pre-shock flow. Using the ionized absorber model zxipab along with a cooling flow model and a reflection component, we model the broadband Chandra/HETG and NuSTAR spectra of two IPs: NY Lup and V1223 Sgr. We find that this model describes well many of the H and He like emission lines from medium Z elements, which arises from the collisionally excited plasma. However the model fails to account for some of the He like triplets from medium Z elements, which points towards its photo-ionization origin. We do not find a compelling evidence for a blackbody component to model the soft excess seen in the residuals of the Chandra/HETG spectra, which could be due to the uncertainties in estimation of the interstellar absorption of these sources using Chandra/HETG data and/or excess fluxes seen in some photo-ionized emission lines which are not accounted by the cooling flow model. We describe the implications of this model with respect to the geometry of the pre-shock region in these two IPs.

The magnetic Hamiltonian of the Heisenberg quantum antiferromagnet SrCuTe$_{2}$O$_{6}$ is studied by inelastic neutron scattering technique on powder and single crystalline samples above and below the magnetic transition temperatures at 8 K and 2 K. The high temperature spectra reveal a characteristic diffuse scattering corresponding to a multi-spinon continuum confirming the dominant quantum spin-chain behavior due to the third neighbour interaction J$_{intra}$ = 4.22 meV (49 K). The low temperature spectra exhibits sharper excitations at energies below 1.25 meV which can be explained by considering a combination of weak antiferromagnetic first nearest neighbour interchain coupling J$_1$ = 0.17 meV (1.9 K) and even weaker ferromagnetic second nearest neighbour J$_2$ = -0.037 meV (-0.4 K) or a weak ferromagnetic J$_2$ = -0.11 meV (-1.3 K) and antiferromagnetic J$_6$ = 0.16 meV (1.85 K) giving rise to the long-range magnetic order and spin-wave excitations at low energies. These results suggest that SrCuTe$_{2}$O$_{6}$ is a highly one-dimensional Heisenberg system with three mutually perpendicular spin-chains coupled by a weak ferromagnetic J$_2$ in addition to the antiferromagnetic J$_1$ or J$_6$ presenting a contrasting scenario from the highly frustrated hyper-hyperkagome lattice (equally strong antiferromagnetic J$_1$ and J$_2$) found in the iso-structural PbCuTe$_{2}$O$_{6}$.

The distribution of hot interstellar medium in early-type galaxies bears the imprint of the various astrophysical processes it underwent during its evolution. The X-ray observations of these galaxies have identified various structural features related to AGN and stellar feedback and environmental effects such as merging and sloshing. In our XMM-Newton Galaxy Atlas (NGA) project, we analyze archival observations of 38 ETGs, utilizing the high sensitivity and large field of view of XMM-Newton to construct spatially resolved 2D spectral maps of the hot gas halos. To illustrate our NGA data products in conjunction with the Chandra Galaxy Atlas (Kim et al. 2019), we describe two distinct galaxies - NGC 4636 and NGC 1550, in detail. We discuss their evolutionary history with a particular focus on the asymmetric distribution of metal-enriched, low-entropy gas caused by sloshing and AGN- driven uplift. We will release the NGA data products to a dedicated website, which users can download to perform further analyses.

The $S=1$ Haldane state is constructed from a product of local singlet dimers in the bulk and topological states at the edges of a chain. It is a fundamental representative of topological quantum matter. Its well-known representative, the quasi-one-dimensional SrNi$_2$V$_2$O$_8$ shows both conventional as well as unconventional magnetic Raman scattering. The former is observed as one- and two-triplet excitations with small linewidths and energies corresponding to the Haldane gap $Δ_H$ and the exchange coupling $J_c$ along the chain, respectively. Well-defined magnetic quasiparticles are assumed to be stabilized by interchain interactions and uniaxial single-ion anisotropy. Unconventional scattering exists as broad continua of scattering with an intensity $I(T)$ that shows a mixed bosonic / fermionic statistic. Such a mixed statistic has also been observed in Kitaev spin liquids and could point to a non-Abelian symmetry. As the ground state in the bulk of SrNi$_2$V$_2$O$_8$ is topologically trivial, we suggest its fractionalization to be due to light-induced interchain exchange processes. These processes are supposed to be enhanced due to a proximity to an Ising ordered state with a quantum critical point. A comparison with SrCo$_2$V$_2$O$_8$, the $S=1/2$ analogue to our title compound, supports these statements.

In this work, we investigate the evolution and settling of magnon condensation in the spin-1/2 dimer system Sr$_{3}$Cr$_{2}$O$_{8}$ using a combination of magnetostriction in pulsed fields and inelastic neutron scattering in a continuous magnetic field. The magnetic structure in the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) phase was probed by neutron diffraction in pulsed magnetic fields up to 39~T. The magnetic structure in this phase was confirmed to be an XY-antiferromagnetic structure validated by irreducible representational analysis. The magnetic phase diagram as a function of an applied magnetic field for this system is presented. Furthermore, zero-field neutron diffraction results indicate that dimerization plays an important role in stabilizing the low-temperature crystal structure.

The Bangla language is the seventh most spoken language, with 265 million native and non-native speakers worldwide. However, English is the predominant language for online resources and technical knowledge, journals, and documentation. Consequently, many Bangla-speaking people, who have limited command of English, face hurdles to utilize English resources. To bridge the gap between limited support and increasing demand, researchers conducted many experiments and developed valuable tools and techniques to create and process Bangla language materials. Many efforts are also ongoing to make it easy to use the Bangla language in the online and technical domains. There are some review papers to understand the past, previous, and future Bangla Natural Language Processing (BNLP) trends. The studies are mainly concentrated on the specific domains of BNLP, such as sentiment analysis, speech recognition, optical character recognition, and text summarization. There is an apparent scarcity of resources that contain a comprehensive review of the recent BNLP tools and methods. Therefore, in this paper, we present a thorough analysis of 75 BNLP research papers and categorize them into 11 categories, namely Information Extraction, Machine Translation, Named Entity Recognition, Parsing, Parts of Speech Tagging, Question Answering System, Sentiment Analysis, Spam and Fake Detection, Text Summarization, Word Sense Disambiguation, and Speech Processing and Recognition. Previous work showed that reCAPTCHA v2's image challenges could be solved by automated programs armed with Deep Neural Network (DNN) image classifiers and vision APIs provided by off-the-shelf image recognition services. In response to emerging threats, Google has made significant updates to its image reCAPTCHA v2 challenges that can render the prior approaches ineffective to a great extent. In this paper, we investigate the robustness of the latest version of reCAPTCHA v2 against advanced object detection based solvers. We propose a fully automated object detection based system that breaks the most advanced challenges of reCAPTCHA v2 with an online success rate of 83.25%, the highest success rate to date, and it takes only 19.93 seconds (including network delays) on average to crack a challenge. We also study the updated security features of reCAPTCHA v2, such as anti-recognition mechanisms, improved anti-bot detection techniques, and adjustable security preferences. Our extensive experiments show that while these security features can provide some resistance against automated attacks, adversaries can still bypass most of them. Our experimental findings indicate that the recent advances in object detection technologies pose a severe threat to the security of image captcha designs relying on simple object detection as their underlying AI problem.

Although blockchain-based digital services promise trust, accountability, and transparency, multiple paradoxes between blockchains and GDPR have been highlighted in the recent literature. Some of the recent literature also proposed possible solutions to these paradoxes. This article aims to conduct a systematic literature review on GDPR compliant blockchains and synthesize the findings. In particular, the goal was to identify 1) the GDPR articles that have been explored in prior literature; 2) the relevant research domains that have been explored, and 3) the research gaps. Our findings synthesized that the blockchains relevant GDPR articles can be categorized into six major groups, namely data deletion and modification (Article 16, 17, and 18), protection by design by default (Article 25), responsibilities of controllers and processors (Article 24, 26, and 28), consent management (Article 7), data processing principles and lawfulness (Article 5,6 and 12), and territorial scope (Article 3). We also found seven research domains where GDPR compliant blockchains have been discussed, which include IoT, financial data, healthcare, personal identity, online data, information governance, and smart city. From our analysis, we have identified a few key research gaps and present a future research direction.

Geometrical frustration among interacting spins combined with strong quantum fluctuations destabilize long-range magnetic order in favour of more exotic states such as spin liquids. By following this guiding principle, a number of spin liquid candidate systems were identified in quasi-two-dimensional (quasi-2D) systems. For 3D, however, the situation is less favourable as quantum fluctuations are reduced and competing states become more relevant. Here we report a comprehensive study of thermodynamic, magnetic and dielectric properties on single crystalline and pressed-powder samples of PbCuTe$_2$O$_6$, a candidate material for a 3D frustrated quantum spin liquid featuring a hyperkagome lattice. Whereas the low-temperature properties of the powder samples are consistent with the recently proposed quantum spin liquid state, an even more exotic behaviour is revealed for the single crystals. These crystals show ferroelectric order at $T_{\text{FE}} \approx 1\,\text{K}$, accompanied by strong lattice distortions, and a modified magnetic response -- still consistent with a quantum spin liquid -- but with clear indications for quantum critical behaviour.

Computer vision approaches are widely used by autonomous robotic systems to sense the world around them and to guide their decision making as they perform diverse tasks such as collision avoidance, search and rescue, and object manipulation. High accuracy is critical, particularly for Human-on-the-loop (HoTL) systems where decisions are made autonomously by the system, and humans play only a supervisory role. Failures of the vision model can lead to erroneous decisions with potentially life or death consequences. In this paper, we propose a solution based upon adaptive autonomy levels, whereby the system detects loss of reliability of these models and responds by temporarily lowering its own autonomy levels and increasing engagement of the human in the decision-making process. Our solution is applicable for vision-based tasks in which humans have time to react and provide guidance. When implemented, our approach would estimate the reliability of the vision task by considering uncertainty in its model, and by performing covariate analysis to determine when the current operating environment is ill-matched to the model's training data. We provide examples from DroneResponse, in which small Unmanned Aerial Systems are deployed for Emergency Response missions, and show how the vision model's reliability would be used in addition to confidence scores to drive and specify the behavior and adaptation of the system's autonomy. This workshop paper outlines our proposed approach and describes open challenges at the intersection of Computer Vision and Software Engineering for the safe and reliable deployment of vision models in the decision making of autonomous systems.

The advancement of distributed generation technologies in modern power systems has led to a widespread integration of renewable power generation at customer side. However, the intermittent nature of renewable energy poses new challenges to the network operational planning with underlying uncertainties. This paper proposes a novel Bayesian probabilistic technique for forecasting renewable solar generation by addressing data and model uncertainties by integrating bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) neural networks while compressing the weight parameters using variational autoencoder (VAE). Existing Bayesian deep learning methods suffer from high computational complexities as they require to draw a large number of samples from weight parameters expressed in the form of probability distributions. The proposed method can deal with uncertainty present in model and data in a more computationally efficient manner by reducing the dimensionality of model parameters. The proposed method is evaluated using quantile loss, reconstruction error, and deterministic forecasting evaluation metrics such as root-mean square error. It is inferred from the numerical results that VAE-Bayesian BiLSTM outperforms other probabilistic and deterministic deep learning methods for solar power forecasting in terms of accuracy and computational efficiency for different sizes of the dataset.

Since the last 50 years, Neutrino physics has been a source of limelight in modern physics because of the incredible characteristics of this elusive particle. According to the basic postulates of the Standard Model of particle physics neutrinos were assumed to be massless, but the results inferred from the experiments conducted in the past few years in the field of neutrino physics have concluded that neutrinos have a finite mass. In this paper we have discussed the various experiments conducted in the past which have tried to set an experimental limit on the absolute neutrino masses. Further, the future experiments which are expected to bring these limits to sub eV regime are also discussed.

We investigate the structural and magnetic properties of the new quantum magnet BaCuTe$_2$O$_6$. This compound is synthesized for the first time in powder and single crystal form. Synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction reveal a cubic crystal structure (P4$_1$32) where the magnetic Cu$^{2+}$ ions form a complex network. Physical properties measurements suggest the presence of antiferromagnetic interactions with a Curie-Weiss temperature of -33K, while long-range magnetic order occurs at the much lower temperature of ~6.3K. The magnetic structure, solved using neutron diffraction, reveals antiferromagnetic order along chains parallel to the a, b and c crystal axes. This is consistent with the magnetic excitations which resemble the multispinon continuum typical of the spin-1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain. A consistent intrachain interaction value of ~34K is achieved from the various techniques. Finally the magnetic structure provides evidence that the chains are coupled together in a non-colinear arrangement by a much weaker antiferromagnetic, frustrated hyperkagome interaction.

In this work, we aim to translate cartoon images to photo-realistic images using GAN. We apply several state-of-the-art models to perform this task; however, they fail to perform good quality translations. We observe that the shallow difference between these two domains causes this issue. Based on this idea, we propose a method based on CycleGAN model for image translation from cartoon domain to photo-realistic domain. To make our model efficient, we implemented Spectral Normalization which added stability in our model. We demonstrate our experimental results and show that our proposed model has achieved the lowest Frechet Inception Distance score and better results compared to another state-of-the-art technique, UNIT.

Using low-cost piezoelectric sensors to sense structural vibration exhibits great potential in augmenting structural engineering, which is yet to be explored in the literature to the best of our knowledge. Examples of such unexplored augmentation include classifying diverse structures (such as building, flyover, foot over-bridge, etc.), and relating the extent of vibration generated at different height of a structure and the associated height. Accordingly, to explore these cases, we develop a low-cost piezoelectric sensor-based vibration sensing system aiming to remotely collect real vibration data from diversified civil structures. We dig into our collected sensed data to classify five different types of structures through rigorous statistical and machine-learning-based analyses. Our analyses achieve a classification accuracy of up to 97% with an F1 score of 0.97. Nonetheless, in the rarely explored time domain, our analyses reveal a novel modality of relation between vibration generated at different heights of a structure and the associated height, which was explored in the frequency domain earlier in the literature with expensive sensors.

We investigate the critical properties of the spin-$1$ honeycomb antiferromagnet BaNi$_2$V$_2$O$_8$, both below and above the ordering temperature $T_N$ using neutron diffraction and muon spin rotation measurements. Our results characterize BaNi$_2$V$_2$O$_8$ as a two-dimensional (2D) antiferromagnet across the entire temperature range, displaying a series of crossovers from 2D Ising-like to 2D XY and then to 2D Heisenberg behavior with increasing temperature. In particular, the extracted critical exponent of the order parameter reveals a narrow temperature regime close to $T_N$, in which the system behaves as a 2D XY antiferromagnet. Above $T_N$, evidence for Berezinsky-Kosterlitz-Thouless behavior driven by vortex excitations is obtained from the scaling of the correlation length. Our experimental results are in accord with classical and quantum Monte Carlo simulations performed for microscopic magnetic model Hamiltonians for BaNi$_2$V$_2$O$_8$.

Energy forecasting has a vital role to play in smart grid (SG) systems involving various applications such as demand-side management, load shedding, and optimum dispatch. Managing efficient forecasting while ensuring the least possible prediction error is one of the main challenges posed in the grid today, considering the uncertainty and granularity in SG data. This paper presents a comprehensive and application-oriented review of state-of-the-art forecasting methods for SG systems along with recent developments in probabilistic deep learning (PDL) considering different models and architectures. Traditional point forecasting methods including statistical, machine learning (ML), and deep learning (DL) are extensively investigated in terms of their applicability to energy forecasting. In addition, the significance of hybrid and data pre-processing techniques to support forecasting performance is also studied. A comparative case study using the Victorian electricity consumption and American electric power (AEP) datasets is conducted to analyze the performance of point and probabilistic forecasting methods. The analysis demonstrates higher accuracy of the long-short term memory (LSTM) models with appropriate hyper-parameter tuning among point forecasting methods especially when sample sizes are larger and involve nonlinear patterns with long sequences. Furthermore, Bayesian bidirectional LSTM (BLSTM) as a probabilistic method exhibit the highest accuracy in terms of least pinball score and root mean square error (RMSE).

In this paper, a non-isolated high step-up dc-dc converter is presented. The proposed converter is composed of an interleaved structure and diode-capacitor multiplier cells for interfacing low-voltage renewable energy sources to high-voltage distribution buses. The aforementioned topology can provide a very high voltage gain due to employing the coupled inductors and the diode-capacitor cells. The coupled inductors are connected to the diode-capacitor multiplier cells to achieve the interleaved energy storage in the output side. Furthermore, the proposed topology provides continuous input current with low voltage stress on the power devices. The reverse recovery problem of the diodes is reduced. This topology can be operated at a reduced duty cycle by adjusting the turn ratio of the coupled inductors. Moreover, the performance comparison between the proposed topology and other converters are introduced. The design considerations operation principle, steady-state analysis, simulation results, and experimental verifications are presented. Therefore, a 500-W hardware prototype with an input voltage of 30-V and an output voltage of 1000-V is built to verify the performance and the theoretical analysis.

The magnetocaloric effect, measured under adiabatic conditions, reveals details of the field-temperature ($H,T$) phase diagram, a dome characterized by critical magnetic fields $H_{c1}$ = 30.4 T, $H_{c2}$ = 62 T, and a single maximum ordering temperature $T_{\rm max}(45~$T$)\simeq$8 K. The sample temperature was observed to drop significantly as the magnetic field is increased, even for initial temperatures above $T_{\rm max}$, indicating a significant magnetic entropy associated to the field-induced closure of the spin gap. The ultrasound and magnetostriction experiments probe the coupling between the lattice degrees of freedom and the magnetism in Sr$_3$Cr$_2$O$_8$. Our experimental results are qualitatively reproduced by a minimalistic phenomenological model of the exchange-striction by which sound waves renormalize the effective exchange couplings.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd neighbor interactions respectively couple Cu$^{2+}$ moments into a network of isolated triangles, a highly frustrated hyperkagome lattice consisting of corner sharing triangles and antiferromagnetic chains. Of these, the chain interaction dominates in SrCuTe$_2$O$_6$ while the other two interactions lead to frustrated inter-chain coupling giving rise to long range magnetic order at suppressed temperatures. In this paper, we investigate the magnetic properties in SrCuTe$_2$O$_6$ using muon relaxation spectroscopy and neutron diffraction and present the low temperature magnetic structure.

X-ray binaries exhibit a wide range of properties but there are few accepted methods to determine the nature of the compact object. Color-Color-Intensity diagrams have been suggested as a means of distinguishing between systems containing black holes from those containing neutron stars. However, this technique has been verified with data from only one instrument (RXTE/ASM) with a single set of X-ray colors defined using data available only in pre-determined energy bands. We test a selection of X-ray colors with a more sensitive instrument to determine the reliability of this method. We use data from the MAXI Gas Slit Camera, which allows users to specify energy-bands. We test X-ray colors that have been previously defined in the literature as well as ones that we define specifically in this paper. A representative set of systems are used to construct Color-Color-Intensity diagrams in each set of colors to determine which are best for separating different classes. For studying individual sources certain bands are more effective than others. For a specified energy range, the separation of soft states in black hole binaries was possible only where both soft and hard colors included information from the lowest energy band. We confirm that Color-Color-Intensity diagrams can distinguish between systems containing black holes or neutron stars in all X-ray colors tested; this suggests an universality in the accretion processes governing these different classes. We suggest possible physical processes driving different classes of X-ray binaries to different locations in Color-Color-Intensity diagrams.

The objective of this paper is to synthesize the digital interventions initiatives to fight against COVID-19 in Bangladesh and compare with other countries. In order to obtain our research objective, we conducted a systematic review of the online content. We first reviewed the digital interventions that have been used to fight against COVID-19 across the globe. We then reviewed the initiatives that have been taken place in Bangladesh. Thereafter, we present a comparative analysis between the initiatives taken in Bangladesh and the other countries. Our findings show that while Bangladesh is capable to take benefits of the digital intervention approaches, tighter cooperation between government and private organizations as well as universities would be needed to get the most benefits. Furthermore, the government needs to make sure that the privacy of its citizens are protected.

An accurate and prompt diagnosis of pediatric pneumonia is imperative for successful treatment intervention. One approach to diagnose pneumonia cases is using radiographic data. In this article, we propose a novel parsimonious scalar-on-image classification model adopting the ideas of functional data analysis. Our main idea is to treat images as functional measurements and exploit underlying covariance structures to select basis functions; these bases are then used in approximating both image profiles and corresponding regression coefficient. We re-express the regression model into a standard generalized linear model where the functional principal component scores are treated as covariates. We apply the method to (1) classify pneumonia against healthy and viral against bacterial pneumonia patients, and (2) test the null effect about the association between images and responses. Extensive simulation studies show excellent numerical performance in terms of classification, hypothesis testing, and efficient computation.

Software development has been changing rapidly. This development process can be influenced through changing developer friendly approaches. We can save time consumption and accelerate the development process if we can automatically guide programmer during software development. There are some approaches that recommended relevant code snippets and APIitems to the developer. Some approaches apply general code, searching techniques and some approaches use an online based repository mining strategies. But it gets quite difficult to help programmers when they need particular type conversion problems. More specifically when they want to adapt existing interfaces according to their expectation. One of the familiar triumph to guide developers in such situation is adapting collections and arrays through automated adaptation of object ensembles. But how does it help to a novice developer in real time software development that is not explicitly specified? In this paper, we have developed a system that works as a plugin-tool integrated with a particular Data Mining Integrated environment (DMIE) to recommend relevant interface while they seek for a type conversion situation. We have a mined repository of respective adapter classes and related APIs from where developer, search their query and get their result using the relevant transformer classes. The system that recommends developers titled automated objective ensembles (AOE plugin). From the investigation as we have ever made, we can see that our approach much better than some of the existing approaches.

Modifying the facial images with desired attributes is important, though challenging tasks in computer vision, where it aims to modify single or multiple attributes of the face image. Some of the existing methods are either based on attribute independent approaches where the modification is done in the latent representation or attribute dependent approaches. The attribute independent methods are limited in performance as they require the desired paired data for changing the desired attributes. Secondly, the attribute independent constraint may result in the loss of information and, hence, fail in generating the required attributes in the face image. In contrast, the attribute dependent approaches are effective as these approaches are capable of modifying the required features along with preserving the information in the given image. However, attribute dependent approaches are sensitive and require a careful model design in generating high-quality results. To address this problem, we propose an attribute dependent face modification approach. The proposed approach is based on two generators and two discriminators that utilize the binary as well as the real representation of the attributes and, in return, generate high-quality attribute modification results. Experiments on the CelebA dataset show that our method effectively performs the multiple attribute editing with preserving other facial details intactly.

The World Health Organization have emphasised that misinformation - spreading rapidly through social media - poses a serious threat to the COVID-19 response. Drawing from theories of health perception and cognitive load, we develop and test a research model hypothesizing why people share unverified COVID-19 information through social media. Our findings suggest a person's trust in online information and perceived information overload are strong predictors of unverified information sharing. Furthermore, these factors, along with a person's perceived COVID-19 severity and vulnerability influence cyberchondria. Females were significantly more likely to suffer from cyberchondria, however, males were more likely to share news without fact checking their source. Our findings suggest that to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 misinformation and cyberchondria, measures should be taken to enhance a healthy skepticism of health news while simultaneously guarding against information overload.

Background: Lack of usability can be a major barrier for the rapid adoption of mobile services. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the usability of Mobile Health applications in Bangladesh.
Method: We followed a 3-stage approach in our research. First, we conducted a keyword-based application search in the popular app stores. We followed the affinity diagram approach and clustered the found applications into nine groups. Second, we randomly selected four apps from each group (36 apps in total) and conducted a heuristic evaluation. Finally, we selected the highest downloaded app from each group and conducted user studies with 30 participants.
Results: We found 61% usability problems are catastrophe or major in nature from heuristic inspection. The most (21%) violated heuristic is aesthetic and minimalist design. The user studies revealed low System Usability Scale (SUS) scores for those apps that had a high number of usability problems based on the heuristic evaluation. Thus, the results of heuristic evaluation and user studies complement each other.
Conclusion: Overall, the findings suggest that the usability of the mobile health apps in Bangladesh is not satisfactory in general and could be a potential barrier for wider adoption of mobile health services.

In this paper, we develop an elasto-viscoplastic (EVP) model for clay using the non-associated flow rule. This is accomplished by using a modified form of the Perzyna's overstressed EVP theory, the critical state soil mechanics, and the multi-surface theory. The new model includes six parameters, five of which are identical to those in the critical state soil mechanics model. The other parameter is the generalized nonlinear secondary compression index. The EVP model was implemented in a nonlinear coupled consolidated code using a finite-element numerical algorithm (AFENA). We then tested the model for different clays, such as the Osaka clay, the San Francisco Bay Mud clay, the Kaolin clay, and the Hong Kong Marine Deposit clay. The numerical results show good agreement with the experimental data.

The orbital profile of the High Mass X-ray binary IGR J16393-4643 shows a dip in its X-ray intensity, which was previously interpreted as an eclipse. Unlike most eclipsing HMXBs, where the X-ray eclipses are about two orders of magnitude fainter compared to the out of eclipse emission, this particular eclipse like feature is narrow and partial, casting doubt if it is indeed an eclipse. To further investigate the nature of this low intensity orbital phase, we use a large number of observations with Swift-XRT, covering the entire orbital phase. The soft X-ray observations also show this low intensity phase, which is about 30% of the intensity during rest of the orbit. We also carried out orbital phase resolved spectroscopy to compare the change in the spectral parameters inside and outside of this low intensity state. The results indicate that this low intensity state might not be an eclipse, as previously thought but absorption in the stellar corona. We have also provided the inclination angle of the binary for grazing eclipse caused by the stellar corona.

A high step up dc dc converter based on an isolated dc dc converter with voltage multiplier cells for photovoltaic systems is essentially introduced in this paper. The proposed converter can provide a high step up voltage gain. The switch voltage stress and losses on semiconductors are significantly reduced through this work. Furthermore, the proposed converter can reliably offer and provide continuous input current which can be basically used for integrating photovoltaic systems to convert 30 V to 480 V dc bus. The ripple on the input current is minimized due to the isolated converter, and the proposed converter is fed by a single input voltage. The operation modes and the characteristics of the aforementioned converter are thoroughly analyzed. The components selection, simulation results and experiment results are mainly verified by using MATALB Simulink. Consequently, a 360 W hardware prototype is implemented to validate the design and the theory.
