Hearing loss (HL) simulators, which allow normal hearing (NH) listeners to experience HL, have been used in speech intelligibility experiments, but not in sound quality experiments due to perceptible distortion. If they produced less distortion, they might be useful for NH listeners to evaluate the sound quality of, for example, hearing aids. We conducted perceptual sound quality experiments to compare the Cambridge version of HL simulator (CamHLS) and the Wakayama version of the HL simulator (WHIS), which has the two algorithms of filterbank analysis synthesis (FBAS) and direct time-varying filter (DTVF). The experimental results showed that WHIS with DTVF produces less perceptible distortion in speech sounds than CamHLS and WHIS with FBAS, even when the nonlinear process is working. This advantage is mainly due to the use of the DTVF algorithm, which could be applied to various signal synthesis applications with filterbank analysis.

This paper corresponds to Section 8 of arXiv:1912.05774v3 [math.GT]. The contents until Section 7 are published in Annali di Matematica Pura ed Applicata as a separate paper. In that paper, it is proved that for any positive flow-spine P of a closed, oriented 3-manifold M, there exists a unique contact structure supported by P up to isotopy. In particular, this defines a map from the set of isotopy classes of positive flow-spines of M to the set of isotopy classes of contact structures on M. In this paper, we show that this map is surjective. As a corollary, we show that any flow-spine can be deformed to a positive flow-spine by applying first and second regular moves successively.

We propose an automatic method for pose and motion estimation against a ground surface for a ground-moving robot-mounted monocular camera. The framework adopts a semi-dense approach that benefits from both a feature-based method and an image-registration-based method by setting multiple patches in the image for displacement computation through a highly accurate image-registration technique. To improve accuracy, we introduce virtual inverse perspective map** (IPM) in the refinement step to eliminate the perspective effect on image registration. The pose and motion are jointly and robustly estimated by a formulation of geometric bundle adjustment via virtual IPM. Unlike conventional visual odometry methods, the proposed method is free from cumulative error because it directly estimates pose and motion against the ground by taking advantage of a camera configuration mounted on a ground-moving robot where the camera's vertical motion is ignorable compared to its height within the frame interval and the nearby ground surface is approximately flat. We conducted experiments in which the relative mean error of the pitch and roll angles was approximately 1.0 degrees and the absolute mean error of the travel distance was 0.3 mm, even under camera shaking within a short period.

A shadowed polyhedron is a simple polyhedron equipped with half integers on regions, called gleams, which represents a compact, oriented, smooth 4-manifold. The polyhedron is embedded in the 4-manifold and it is called a shadow of that manifold. A subpolyhedron of a shadow represents a possibly singular subsurface in the 4-manifold. In this paper, we focus on contractible shadows obtained from the unit disk by attaching annuli along generically immersed closed curves on the disk. In this case, the 4-manifold is always a 4-ball. Milnor fibers of plane curve singularities and complexified real line arrangements can be represented in this way. We give a presentation of the fundamental group of the complement of a subpolyhedron of such a shadow in the 4-ball. The method is very similar to the Wirtinger presentation of links in knot theory.

In the previous paper (J. Combin. Theory Ser. A, 120, 2013, 1263--1284) H. Tagawa and the two authors proposed an algebraic method to compute certain Pfaffians whose form resemble to Hankel determinants associated with moment sequences of the classical orthogonal polynomials. At the end of the paper they offered several conjectures. In this work we employ a completely different method to evaluate this type of Pfaffians. The idea is to apply certain de Bruijn type formula and convert the evaluation of the Pfaffians to the certain Selberg type integrals. This approach works not only for Pfaffians but also for hyperpfaffians. Hence it enables us to establish much more generalized identities than those conjectured in the previous paper. We also investigate some Pfaffians related to classical $q$-orthogonal polynomials.

We developed a CANDLES-III system to study the neutrino-less double beta (0$νββ$) decay of $^{48}$Ca. The proposed system employs 96 CaF$_{2}$ scintillation crystals (305 kg) with natural Ca ($^{\rm nat.}$Ca) isotope which corresponds 350\,g of $^{48}$Ca. External backgrounds were rejected using a 4$π$ active shield of a liquid scintillator surrounding the CaF$_2$ crystals. The internal backgrounds caused by the radioactive impurities within the CaF$_2$ crystals can be reduced effectively through analysis of the signal pulse shape. We analyzed the data obtained in the Kamioka underground for a live-time of 130.4\,days to evaluate the feasibility of the low background measurement with the CANDLES-III detector. Using Monte Carlo simulations, we estimated the background rate from the radioactive impurities in the CaF$_{2}$ crystals and the rate of high energy $γ$-rays caused by the (n, $γ$) reactions induced by environmental neutrons. The expected background rate was in a good agreement with the measured rate, i.e., approximately 10$^{-3}$ events/keV/yr/(kg of $^{\rm nat.}$Ca), in the 0$νββ$ window. In conclusion, the background candidates were estimated properly by comparing the measured energy spectrum with the background simulations. With this measurement method, we performed the first search for 0$νββ$ decay in a low background condition using a detector with a Ca isotope, in which the Ca present was not enriched, in a scale of hundreds of kg. The $^{48}$Ca isotope has a high potential for use in 0$νββ$ decay search, and is expected to be useful for the development of a next-generation detector for highly sensitive measurements.

We additionally assume that the 1-form $β$ defining a foliation on a branched simple polyhedron $P$ satisfies $dβ>0$, which means that the foliation is a characteristic foliation of a contact form whose Reeb flow is transverse to $P$. In this paper, we show that if there exists a 1-form $β$ on $P$ with $dβ>0$ then we can find a 1-form with the same property and additionally being S-stable. A flow-spine of a 3-manifold is a spine admitting a flow that is transverse to the spine, where the flow in the complement of the spine is diffeomorphic to a constant flow in an open ball. We say that a contact structure on a closed, connected, oriented 3-manifold is supported by a flow-spine if it has a contact form whose Reeb flow is a flow of the flow-spine. It is known by Thurston and Winkelnkemper that any open book decomposition of a closed oriented 3-manifold supports a contact structure. In this paper, we introduce a notion of positivity for flow-spines and prove that any positive flow-spine of a closed, connected, oriented 3-manifold supports a contact structure uniquely up to isotopy. The positivity condition is critical to the existence of the unique, supported contact structure, which is also proved in the paper.

In this system, the mosaicked image captured by the MSFA is demosaicked to reconstruct multispectral images (MSIs). We focus on the spectral sensitivity design of a MSFA in this paper and propose a pathology-specific MSFA. The proposed method optimizes the MSFA by minimizing the reconstruction error between training data of a pathological tissue and a demosaicked MSI under a cost function. Firstly, the spectral sensitivities of the filter array are set randomly, and the mosaicked image is obtained from the training data and the filter array. Then, a reconstructed image is obtained by Wiener estimation. The spectral sensitivities of the filter array are optimized iteratively by an interior-point approach to minimize the reconstruction error. We show the effectiveness of the proposed MSFA by comparing the recovered spectrum and RGB image with a conventional method.

A capturing system with multispectral filter array (MSFA) technology is proposed for shortening the capture time and reducing costs. Therein, a mosaicked image captured using an MSFA is demosaicked to reconstruct multispectral images (MSIs). Joint optimization of the spectral sensitivity of the MSFAs and demosaicking is considered, and pathology-specific multispectral imaging is proposed. This optimizes the MSFA and the demosaicking matrix by minimizing the reconstruction error between the training data of a hematoxylin and eosin-stained pathological tissue and a demosaicked MSI using a cost function. Initially, the spectral sensitivity of the filter array is set randomly and the mosaicked image is obtained from the training data. Subsequently, a reconstructed image is obtained using Wiener estimation. To minimize the reconstruction error, the spectral sensitivity of the filter array and the Wiener estimation matrix are optimized iteratively through an interior-point approach. When the crystal orientation of the spin-transport channel in LSVs is changed from $\langle$110$\rangle$, which is a conventional cleavage direction, to $\langle$100$\rangle$, the maximum magnitude of the spin signals is markedly enhanced. From the analyses based on the one-dimensional spin diffusion model, we can understand that the spin injection/detection efficiency in Si$\langle$100$\rangle$ LSVs is larger than that in Si$\langle$110$\rangle$ ones. We infer that, in Si-based LSVs, the spin detection efficiency of the pure spin current is related to the crystallographic orientation of the valley structures of the conduction band in Si.

Notably, the peak X-ray luminosity of 5(3-9)*10^33 ergs s-1 in the 2-20 keV band was detected in one of the flares on II Peg, which is one of the, or potentially the, largest ever observed in stellar flares. X-ray flares were detected from GT Mus, V841 Cen, SZ Psc, and TWA-7 for the first time in this survey. Whereas most of our detected sources are multiple-star systems, two of them are single stars (YZ CMi and TWA-7). Among the stellar sources within 100 pc distance, the MAXI/GSC sources have larger rotation velocities than the other sources. This suggests that the rapid rotation velocity may play a key role in generating large flares. Combining the X-ray flare data of nearby stars and the sun, taken from literature and our own data, we discovered a universal correlation of tau~L_X^0.2 for the flare duration tau and the intrinsic X-ray luminosity L_X in the 0.1-100 keV band, which holds for 5 and 12 orders of magnitude in tau and L_X, respectively. The MAXI/GSC sample is located at the highest ends on the correlation.

Artifact metrics is an information security technology that uses the intrinsic characteristics of a physical object for authentication and clone resistance. Here, we demonstrate nano-artifact metrics based on silicon nanostructures formed via an array of resist pillars that randomly collapse when exposed to electron-beam lithography. The proposed technique uses conventional and scalable lithography processes, and because of the random collapse of resist, the resultant structure has extremely fine-scale morphology with a minimum dimension below 10 nm, which is less than the resolution of current lithography capabilities. By evaluating false match, false non-match and clone-resistance rates, we clarify that the nanostructured patterns based on resist collapse satisfy the requirements for high-performance security applications.

Monitor of all-sky image (MAXI) Gas Slit Camera (GSC) detects gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) including the bursts with soft spectra, such as X-ray flashes (XRFs). MAXI/GSC is sensitive to the energy range from 2 to 30 keV. This energy range is lower than other currently operating instruments which is capable of detecting GRBs. Since the beginning of the MAXI operation on August 15, 2009, GSC observed 35 GRBs up to the middle of 2013. One third of them are also observed by other satellites. The rest of them show a trend to have soft spectra and low fluxes. Because of the contribution of those XRFs, the MAXI GRB rate is about three times higher than those expected from the BATSE log N - log P distribution. When we compare it to the observational results of the Wide-field X-ray Monitor on the High Energy Transient Explorer 2, which covers the the same energy range to that of MAXI/GSC, we find a possibility that many of MAXI bursts are XRFs with Epeak lower than 20 keV. We discuss the source of soft GRBs observed only by MAXI. The MAXI log N - log S distribution suggests that the MAXI XRFs distribute in closer distance than hard GRBs. Since the distributions of the hardness of galactic stellar flares and X-ray bursts overlap with those of MAXI GRBs, we discuss a possibility of a confusion of those galactic transients with the MAXI GRB samples.

A detailed quantitative analysis of the specific heat in the $1.8-300$ K temperature range for L-cysteine and L-cystine amino acids was presented. We observed not extended but a sharp transition at $\sim 76$ K for L-cysteine. This transition was associated to the thiol group ordering and the order-disorder transition was adequately modeled by a 2D Ising model. The energy difference among two thiol configurations was found to be $-J=\varepsilon_{A}-\varepsilon_{B}=-66.6$ cal/mole. Besides, we conducted a study of phonon and rotor contributions to the specific heat and we proposed a generalization of Debye model. It was possible to evaluate the exponent of the $g(ω)$, leading to the result that it corresponds to the Debye model for L-cysteine, which implies that the boson peak in this system is due to a maximum in the $C_{coup}(ω)$ and also that the plane wave of wave-vector $\vec{q}$ is a good approximation to describe the phonons. On the other hand the origin of the boson peak for L-cystine correlates to a peak in $g(ω)$ and phonons in L-cystine could be well represented by strongly attenuated plane waves or localized vibrations. Lastly, the analysis at very low temperature ($T<3$ K) indicated that L-cysteine presented a nearly temperature independent behaviour which is opposite to which is widely observed in systems with glassy characteristics within the Two-Level System (TLS) framework.

The magnetoresistance (MR) ratio is modified by the DG term through an interface electric field. We have also carried out spin injection and detection measurements using four-terminal Si devices. The local measurement shows that the MR ratio changes depending on the current direction. We show that the change of the MR ratio depending on the current direction comes from the DG term regarding the asymmetry of the two interface electronic structures.

In the present work is shown that quantum fluctuations play a fundamental role on describing the glassy state of biomolecules, specially at lower hydration levels. It is reported a remarkable linear dependence on the quantumness and the slope of the Boson peak frequency temperature dependence which would be used to classify de degree of quantum contributions to the glassy state by glasses in general. Finally, it is shown that the Boson peak two-bands spectral structure observed in some cases could be direct linked to the anisotropy of the material elastic properties.

It is exposed to the CERN Neutrinos to Gran Sasso beam, with a baseline of 730 km and a mean energy of 17 GeV. The observation of the first $ν_τ$ candidate event and the analysis of the 2008-2009 neutrino sample have been reported in previous publications. This work describes substantial improvements in the analysis and in the evaluation of the detection efficiencies and backgrounds using new simulation tools. The analysis is extended to a sub-sample of 2010 and 2011 data, resulting from an electronic detector-based pre-selection, in which an additional $ν_τ$ candidate has been observed. The significance of the two events in terms of a $ν_μ\to ν_τ$ oscillation signal is of 2.40 $σ$.

We present the catalog of high Galactic-latitude ($|b|>10^{\circ}$) X-ray sources detected in the first 37-month data of Monitor of All-sky X-ray Image (MAXI) / Gas Slit Camera (GSC). To achieve the best sensitivity, we develop a background model of the GSC that well reproduces the data based on the detailed on-board calibration. Source detection is performed through image fit with the Poisson likelihood algorithm. The catalog contains 500 objects detected in the 4--10 keV band with significance of $s_{\rm D, 4-10 keV} \geq 7$. The limiting sensitivity is $\approx 7.5\times10^{-12}$ ergs cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ ($\approx 0.6$ mCrab) in the 4--10 keV band for 50% of the survey area, which is the highest ever achieved as an all-sky survey mission covering this energy band. We summarize the statistical properties of the catalog and results from cross matching with the Swift/BAT 70-month catalog, the meta-catalog of X-ray detected clusters of galaxies, and the MAXI/GSC 7-month catalog. Our catalog lists the source name (2MAXI), position and its error, detection significances and fluxes in the 4--10 keV and 3--4 keV bands, their hardness ratio, and basic information of the likely counterpart available for 296 sources.

We investigate the topological aspect of the spin-triplet $f$-wave superconductor UPt$_3$ through microscopic calculations of edge- and vortex-bound states based on the quasiclassical Eilenberger and Bogoliubov-de Gennes theories. It is shown that a gapless and linear dispersion exists at the edge of the $ab$-plane. This forms a Majorana valley, protected by the mirror chiral symmetry. We also demonstrate that, with increasing magnetic field, vortex-bound quasiparticles undergo a topological phase transition from topologically trivial states in the double-core vortex to zero-energy states in the normal-core vortex. As long as the $d$-vector is locked into the $ab$-plane, the mirror symmetry holds the Majorana property of the zero-energy states, and thus UPt$_3$ preserves topological crystalline superconductivity that is robust against the crystal field and spin-orbit interaction.

The source was discovered on 2011 January 11 (MJD=55572) by MAXI Gas Slit Camera all-sky survey at (l,b)=(238.9deg, -25.2deg), relatively away from the Galactic plane. Swift/XRT follow-up observations identified it with a previously uncatalogued bright X-ray source and led to optical identification. For more than one year since its appearance, MAXI J0556-332 has been X-ray active, with a 2-10 keV intensity above 30 mCrab. The MAXI/GSC data revealed rapid X-ray brightening in the first five days, and a hard-to-soft transition in the meantime. For the following ~ 70 days, the 0.5-30 keV spectra, obtained by the Swift/XRT and the RXTE/PCA on an almost daily basis, show a gradual hardening, with large flux variability. These spectra are approximated by a cutoff power-law with a photon index of 0.4-1 and a high-energy exponential cutoff at 1.5-5 keV, throughout the initial 10 months where the spectral evolution is mainly represented by a change of the cutoff energy. To be more physical, the spectra are consistently explained by thermal emission from an accretion disk plus a Comptonized emission from a boundary layer around a neutron star. This supports the source identification as a neutron-star X-ray binary. The obtained spectral parameters agree with those of neutron-star X-ray binaries in the soft state, whose luminosity is higher than 1.8x10^37 erg s^-1. This suggests a source distance of >17 kpc.

Motivated by the Gaussian symplectic ensemble, Mehta and Wang evaluated the $n$ by $n$ determinant $\det((a+j-i)Γ(b+j+i))$ in 2000. When $a=0$, Ciucu and Krattenthaler computed the associated Pfaffian $\Pf((j-i)Γ(b+j+i))$ with an application to the two dimensional dimer system in 2011. Recently we have generalized the latter Pfaffian formula with a $q$-analogue by replacing the Gamma function by the moment sequence of the little $q$-Jacobi polynomials. On the other hand, Nishizawa has found a $q$-analogue of the Mehta--Wang formula. Our purpose is to generalize both the Mehta-Wang and Nishizawa formulae by using the moment sequence of the little $q$-Jacobi polynomials. It turns out that the corresponding determinant can be evaluated explicitly in terms of the Askey-Wilson polynomials.

Spin injection and detection are very sensitive to the interface properties between ferromagnet and semiconductor. Because the interface properties such as a tunneling resistance can be chosen independently between the injection and detection sides, the magnetic transport properties are considered to depend on the asymmetry of the two interfaces. We theoretically investigate the effect of the asymmetric interfaces of the injection side and the detection side on both the local and non-local magnetoresistance measurements. The results show the magnetoresistance ratio of local measurement structure has its maximum at the symmetric structure, and the effect of the asymmetry is very weak for the non-local measurement structure.

We report on the first observation of an X-ray outburst of a Be/X-ray binary pulsar LS V +44 17/RX J0440.9+4431, and the discovery of an absorption dip structure in the pulse profile. An outburst of this source was discovered by MAXI GSC in 2010 April. It was the first detection of the transient activity of LS V +44 17 since the source was identified as a Be/X-ray binary in 1997. From the data of the follow-up RXTE observation near the peak of the outburst, we found a narrow dip structure in its pulse profile which was clearer in the lower energy bands. The pulse-phase-averaged energy spectra in the 3$-$100 keV band can be fitted with a continuum model containing a power-law function with an exponential cutoff and a blackbody component, which are modified at low energy by an absorption component. A weak iron K$α$ emission line is also detected in the spectra. From the pulse-phase-resolved spectroscopy we found that the absorption column density at the dip phase was much higher than those in the other phases. The dip was not seen in the subsequent RXTE observations at lower flux levels. These results suggest that the dip in the pulse profile originates from the eclipse of the radiation from the neutron star by the accretion column.

A variation of Zeilberger's holonomic ansatz for symbolic determinant evaluations is proposed which is tailored to deal with Pfaffians. The method is also applicable to determinants of skew-symmetric matrices, for which the original approach does not work. As Zeilberger's approach is based on the Laplace expansion (cofactor expansion) of the determinant, we derive our approach from the cofactor expansion of the Pfaffian. To demonstrate the power of our method, we prove, using computer algebra algorithms, some conjectures proposed in the paper "Pfaffian decomposition and a Pfaffian analogue of q-Catalan Hankel determinants" by Ishikawa, Tagawa, and Zeng. A minor summation formula related to partitions and Motzkin paths follows as a corollary.

We present the results of monitoring the Galactic black hole candidate GX 339-4 with the Monitor of All-sky X-ray Image (MAXI) / Gas Slit Camera (GSC) in the high/soft state during the outburst in 2010. All the spectra throughout the 8-month period are well reproduced with a model consisting of multi-color disk (MCD) emission and its Comptonization component, whose fraction is <= 25% in the total flux. In spite of the flux variability over a factor of 3, the innermost disk radius is constant at R_in = 61 +/- 2 km for the inclination angle of i = 46 deg and the distance of d=8 kpc. This R_in value is consistent with those of the past measurements with Tenma in the high/soft state. Assuming that the disk extends to the innermost stable circular orbit of a non-spinning black hole, we estimate the black hole mass to be M = 6.8 +/- 0.2 M_sun for i = 46 deg and d = 8 kpc, which is consistent with that estimated from the Suzaku observation of the previous low/hard state. Further combined with the mass function, we obtain the mass constraint of 4.3 M_sun < M < 13.3 M_sun for the allowed range of d = 6-15 kpc and i < 60 deg. We also discuss the spin parameter of the black hole in GX 339-4 by applying relativistic accretion disk models to the Swift/XRT data.

We report on the X-ray spectral analysis of the black hole candidate XTE\ J1752--223 in the 2009--2010 outburst, utilizing data obtained with the MAXI/Gas Slit Camera (GSC), the Swift/XRT, and Suzaku, which work complementarily. As already reported by Nakahira et al. (2010) MAXI monitored the source continuously throughout the entire outburst for about eight months. All the MAXI/GSC energy spectra in the high/soft state lasting for 2 months are well represented by a multi-color disk plus power-law model. The innermost disk temperature changed from $\sim$0.7 keV to $\sim$0.4 keV and the disk flux decreased by an order of magnitude. Nevertheless, the innermost radius is constant at $\sim$41 $D_{3.5}(\cos{\it i})^{-1/2}$ km, where $D_{3.5}$ is the source distance in units of 3.5 kpc and $i$ the inclination. The multi-color disk parameters obtained with the MAXI/GSC are consistent with those with the Swift/XRT and Suzaku. The Suzaku data also suggests a possibility that the disk emission is slightly Comptonized, which could account for broad iron-K features reported previously. Assuming that the obtained innermost radius represents the innermost stable circular orbit for a non-rotating black hole, we estimate the mass of the black hole to be 5.51$\pm$0.28 $M_{\odot}$ $D_{3.5}(\cos{\it i})^{-1/2}$, where the correction for the stress-free inner boundary condition and color hardening factor of 1.7 are taken into account. If the inclination is less than 49$^{\circ}$ as suggested from the radio monitoring of transient jets and the soft-to-hard transition in 2010 April occurred at 1--4% of Eddignton luminosity, the fitting of the Suzaku spectra with a relativistic accretion-disk model derives constraints on the mass and the distance to be 3.1--55 $M_{\odot}$ and 2.3--22 {\rm kpc}, respectively. This confirms that the compact object in XTE J1752--223 is a black hole.

We construct a new X-ray (2--10 keV) luminosity function of Compton-thin active galactic nuclei (AGNs) in the local universe, using the first MAXI/GSC source catalog surveyed in the 4--10 keV band. The sample consists of 37 non-blazar AGNs at $z=0.002-0.2$, whose identification is highly ($>97%$) complete. We confirm the trend that the fraction of absorbed AGNs with $N_{\rm H} > 10^{22}$ cm$^{-2}$ rapidly decreases against luminosity ($L_{\rm X}$), from 0.73$\pm$0.25 at $L_{\rm X} = 10^{42-43.5}$ erg s$^{-1}$ to 0.12$\pm0.09$ at $L_{\rm X} = 10^{43.5-45.5}$ erg s$^{-1}$. The obtained luminosity function is well fitted with a smoothly connected double power-law model whose indices are $γ_1 = 0.84$ (fixed) and $γ_2 = 2.0\pm0.2$ below and above the break luminosity, $L_{*} = 10^{43.3\pm0.4}$ ergs s$^{-1}$, respectively. While the result of the MAXI/GSC agrees well with that of HEAO-1 at $L_{\rm X} \gtsim 10^{43.5}$ erg s$^{-1}$, it gives a larger number density at the lower luminosity range. Comparison between our luminosity function in the 2--10 keV band and that in the 14--195 keV band obtained from the Swift/BAT survey indicates that the averaged broad band spectra in the 2--200 keV band should depend on luminosity, approximated by $Γ\sim1.7$ for $L_{\rm X} \ltsim 10^{44}$ erg s$^{-1}$ while $Γ\sim 2.0$ for $L_{\rm X} \gtsim 10^{44}$ erg s$^{-1}$. This trend is confirmed by the correlation between the luminosities in the 2--10 keV and 14--195 keV bands in our sample. We argue that there is no contradiction in the luminosity functions between above and below 10 keV once this effect is taken into account.

At the scan transit, we observed a high X-ray-to-bolometric luminosity ratio, log $L_{\rm X}/L_{\rm bol}$ = $-0.1^{+0.2}_{-0.3}$; i.e., the X-ray luminosity is comparable to the bolometric luminosity. Since TWA-7 has neither an accreting disk nor a binary companion, the observed event implies that none of those are essential to generate such big flares in T Tauri stars.

We develop an analysis procedure to detect faint sources from the MAXI data, utilizing a maximum likelihood image fitting method, where the image response, background, and detailed observational conditions are taken into account. The catalog consists of 143 X-ray sources above 7 sigma significance level with a limiting sensitivity of $\sim1.5\times10^{-11}$ ergs cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ (1.2 mCrab) in the 4--10 keV band. Among them, we identify 38 Galactic/LMC/SMC objects, 48 galaxy clusters, 39 Seyfert galaxies, 12 blazars, and 1 galaxy. Other 4 sources are confused with multiple objects, and one remains unidentified. The log $N$ - log $S$ relation of extragalactic objects is in a good agreement with the HEAO-1 A-2 result, although the list of the brightest AGNs in the entire sky has significantly changed since that in 30 years ago.

Combining the microscopic Eilenberger theory with the first principles band calculation, we investigate the stable flux line lattice (FLL) for a field applied to the four-fold axis; $H\parallel [001]$ in cubic Nb. The observed FLL transformation along $H_{c2}$ is almost perfectly explained without adjustable parameter, including the tilted square, scalene triangle with broken mirror symmetry, and isosceles triangle lattices upon increasing $T$. We construct a minimum Fermi surface model to understand those morphologies, in particular the stability of the scalene triangle lattice attributed to the lack of the mirror symmetry about the Fermi velocity maximum direction in k-space.
