We perform a beat-frequency-resolved analysis for two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy using a high-speed and stable 2D electronic spectrometer and few-cycle visible laser pulses to disentangle the vibrational coherences in an artificial fluorescent protein. We develop a highly stable ultrashort light source that generates 5.3-fs visible pulses with a pulse energy of 4.7 uJ at a repetition rate of 10 kHz using multi-plate pulse compression and laser filamentation in a gas cell. The above-5.3-fs laser pulses together with a high-speed multichannel detector enable us to measure a series of 2D electronic spectra, which are resolved in terms of beat frequency related to vibrational coherence. We successfully extract the discrete vibrational peaks behind the inhomogeneous broadening in the absorption spectra and the vibrational quantum beats of the excited electronic state behind the strong stationary signal in the typical 2D electronic spectra.

A novel Lattice QCD (LQCD) method to determine the quark-diquark ($q$-$D$) interaction potential together with the diquark mass ($m_D$) is proposed. Similar to the HAL QCD method, $q$-$D$ potential is determined by demanding it to reproduce the $q$-$D$ equal-time Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter (NBS) wave function. To do this, it is necessary to use the masses of the quark and the diquark as inputs, which however are not straightforwardly obtained because of the color confinement of QCD. In this work, masses of quark and diquark are determined by demanding that the p-wave spectrums from the two-point correlators be reproduced by the potentials for $c$-$\bar{c}$ and $q$-$D$ sectors determined from the NBS wave functions. Numerical calculations are performed by using 2+1 flavor QCD gauge configurations with the pion mass $m_π\simeq 700$ MeV generated by PACS-CS collaboration. We apply our method to the $c$-$\bar c$ system and the charm-diquark system ($Λ_c$ baryon) to obtain the charm quark mass, diquark mass and the $c$-$D$ potential. Our preliminary analysis leads to the diquark mass $m_D \simeq 1.127$ GeV which is roughly consistent with a naive estimate based on the constituent quark picture, i.e., $m_{D} \simeq m_ρ \simeq 1.12$ GeV and $m_{D} \simeq 2m_N/3 \simeq 1.06$ GeV.

By using the HAL QCD method, the central $Δ$-$Δ$ potential in the ${}^7S_3$ channel is obtained from the lattice data with the lattice spacing $a\simeq 0.121$ fm and the lattice size $L\simeq 3.87$ fm. The resultant potential shows a strong short-range attraction, so that a quasi-bound state corresponding to $d^\ast (2380)$ is formed with the binding energy $25$-$40$ MeV below the $ΔΔ$ threshold for the heavy pion masses. The tensor part of the transition potential from $ΔΔ$ to $NN$ is also extracted to investigate the coupling strength between the $S$-wave $ΔΔ$ system with $J^P=3^+$ and the $D$-wave $NN$ system. Although the transition potential is strong at short distances, the decay width of $d^\ast (2380)$ to $NN$ in the $D$-wave is kinematically suppressed, which justifies our single-channel analysis at the range of the pion mass explored in this study.

We report optical parametric amplification (OPA) of low-frequency infrared pulses in the intermediate region between terahertz (THz) frequency and mid-infrared (MIR), i.e., from 16.9 to 44.8 THz. The 255-fs laser output of the Yb:KGW regenerative amplifier is compressed to 11-fs pulses using a multi-plate broadening scheme, which generates THz-to-MIR pulses with a spectrum extending to approximately 50 THz by intra-p1ulse differential frequency generation (DFG) in GaSe. The THz-to-MIR pulses are further amplified using a two-stage OPA in GaSe. The temporal dynamics and photocarrier effects during OPA are characterized in the time domain. Owing to the intra-pulse DFG, the long-term phase drift of the THz-to-MIR pulses after two-stage OPA is as small as 16 mrad during a 6-h operation without any active feedback. Our scheme using the intra-pulse DFG and post-amplification proposes a new route to intense THz-to-MIR light sources with extreme phase stability.

We experimentally study the field-intensity dependence of high-harmonic generation in bulk gallium arsenide in reflection geometry. We find the oscillatory behavior at high fields where a perturbative scaling law no longer holds. By constructing a theoretical framework based on the Luttinger-Kohn model, we succeed in reproducing the observed oscillatory behavior. The qualitative agreement between the experiment and theory indicates that field-induced dynamic band modification is crucial in the nonperturbative regime. We consider the origin of the oscillatory behavior in terms of dynamical localization based on the Floquet subband picture.

The $ΛΛ$ interaction at low energies shows only a weak attraction, which does not provide a bound or resonant dihyperon. The $NΞ$ interaction in the spin-singlet and isospin-singlet channel is most attractive and lead the $NΞ$ system near unitarity. Relevance to the strangeness=$-2$ hypernuclei as well as to two-baryon correlations in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions is also discussed.

Photo-excitation is a very powerful way to instantaneously drive a material into a novel quantum state without any fabrication, and variable ultrafast techniques have been developed to observe how electron-, lattice-, and spin-degrees of freedom change. One of the most spectacular phenomena is photo-induced superconductivity, and it has been suggested in cuprates that the transition temperature Tc can be enhanced from original Tc with significant lattice modulations. Here we show another photo-induced high-Tc superconducting state in the iron-based superconductor FeSe with semi-metallic hole and electron bands. The transient electronic state in the entire Brillouin zone is directly observed by the time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy using extreme ultraviolet pulses obtained from high harmonic generation. Our results of dynamical behaviors on timescales from 50 fs to 800 ps consistently support the favorable superconducting state after photo-excitation well above Tc. This finding demonstrates that multiband iron-based superconductors emerge as an alternative candidate for photo-induced superconductors.

Today, the twist angle Θ has become an important degree of freedom for exploring novel states of matters, i.e. two-dimensional superconductivity ( Θ = 1.1°)6, 7 and a two-dimensional quasicrystal (Θ = 30°)8, 9. We report herein experimental observation on the photo-induced ultrafast dynamics of Dirac fermions in the quasicrystalline 30° twisted bilayer graphene (QCTBG). We discover that hot carriers are asymmetrically distributed between the two graphene layers, followed by the opposing femtosecond relaxations, by using time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. The key mechanism involves the differing carrier transport between layers and the transient do** from the substrate interface. The ultrafast dynamics scheme continues after the Umklapp scattering, which is induced by the incommensurate interlayer stacking of the quasi-crystallinity. The dynamics in the atomic layer opens the possibility of new applications and creates interdisciplinary links in the optoelectronics of van der Waals crystals.

Femtosecond-to-attosecond transient absorption spectroscopy (TAS) using high-harmonic generation (HHG) with a photon energy below 300 eV has been a powerful tool to observe such electron and nuclear dynamics in a table-top manner. However, comprehensive measurements of the electronic, vibrational, and rotational molecular dynamics have not yet been achieved. Here, we demonstrate HHG-based TAS at the nitrogen K-edge (400 eV) for the first time, and observe all the electronic, vibrational, and rotational degrees of freedom in a nitric oxide molecule at attosecond to sub-picosecond time scales. This method of employing core-to-valence transitions offers an all-optical approach to reveal complete molecular dynamics in photochemical reactions with element and electronic state specificity.

There exist two methods to study two-baryon systems in lattice QCD: the direct method which extracts eigenenergies from the plateaux of the temporal correlator and the HAL QCD method which extracts observables from the non-local potential associated with the tempo-spatial correlator. Although the two methods should give the same results theoretically, qualitatively different results have been reported. Recently, we pointed out that the separation of the ground state from the excited states is crucial to obtain sensible results in the former, while both states provide useful signals in the latter. In this paper, we identify the contribution of each state in the direct method by decomposing the two-baryon correlators into the finite-volume eigenmodes obtained from the HAL QCD method. We consider the $ΞΞ$ system in the $^1$S$_0$ channel at $m_π= 0.51$ GeV in 2+1 flavor lattice QCD using the wall and smeared quark sources. We demonstrate that the "pseudo-plateau" at early time slices (t = 1~2 fm) from the smeared source in the direct method indeed originates from the contamination of the excited states, and the true plateau with the ground state saturation is realized only at t > 5~15 fm corresponding to the inverse of the lowest excitation energy. We also demonstrate that the two-baryon operator can be optimized by utilizing the finite-volume eigenmodes, so that (i) the finite-volume energy spectra from the HAL QCD method agree with those from the optimized temporal correlator and (ii) the correct spectra would be accessed in the direct method only if highly optimized operators are employed. Thus we conclude that the long-standing issue on the consistency between the Lüscher's finite volume method and the HAL QCD method for two baryons is now resolved: They are consistent with each other quantitatively only if the excited contamination is properly removed in the former.

The time-dependent HAL QCD method is employed to convert the lattice QCD data of the two-baryon correlation function to the baryon-baryon potential and eventually to the scattering observables. The $NΩ$($^5$S$_2$) potential, obtained under the assumption that its couplings to the D-wave octet-baryon pairs are small, is found to be attractive in all distances and to produce a quasi-bound state near unitarity: In this channel, the scattering length, the effective range and the binding energy from QCD alone read $a_0= 5.30(0.44)(^{+0.16}_{-0.01})$~fm, $r_{\rm eff} = 1.26(0.01)(^{+0.02}_{-0.01})$~fm, $B = 1.54(0.30)(^{+0.04}_{-0.10})$~MeV, respectively. Including the extra Coulomb attraction, the binding energy of $pΩ^-$($^5$S$_2$) becomes $B_{pΩ^-} = 2.46(0.34)(^{+0.04}_{-0.11})$~MeV. Such a spin-2 $pΩ^-$ state could be searched through two-particle correlations in $p$-$p$, $p$-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions.

Using light to manipulate materials into desired states is one of the goals in condensed matter physics, since light control can provide ultrafast and environmentally-friendly photonics devices. However, it is generally difficult to realise a photo-induced phase which is not merely a higher entropy phase corresponding to a high-temperature phase at equilibrium. Here, we report realization of photo-induced insulator-to-metal transitions in Ta2Ni(Se1-xSx)5 including the excitonic insulator phase using time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. From the dynamic properties of the system, we determine that screening of excitonic correlations plays a key role in the timescale of the transition to the metallic phase, which supports the existence of an excitonic-insulator phase at equilibrium. The non-equilibrium metallic state observed unexpectedly in the direct-gap excitonic insulator opens up a new avenue to optical band engineering in electron-hole coupled systems.

The $ΞΞ$ interaction in the $^1$S$_0$ channel is studied to examine the convergence of the derivative expansion of the non-local HAL QCD potential at the next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^2$LO). We find that (i) the leading order potential from the N$^2$LO analysis gives the scattering phase shifts accurately at low energies, (ii) the full N$^2$LO potential gives only small correction to the phase shifts even at higher energies below the inelastic threshold, and (iii) the potential determined from the wall quark source at the leading order analysis agrees with the one at the N$^2$LO analysis except at short distances, and thus, it gives correct phase shifts at low energies. We also study the possible systematic uncertainties in the HAL QCD potential such as the inelastic state contaminations and the finite volume artifact for the potential and find that they are well under control for this particular system.

In order to probe the entire Brillouin zone, we utilize extreme ultraviolet photons and observe photoemission intensity oscillation with the frequency of the A1g phonon which is antiphase between the zone-centered hole Fermi surfaces (FSs) and zone-cornered electron FSs. We attribute the antiphase behavior to the war** in one of the zone-centered hole FSs accompanying the displacement of the pnictogen height, and find that this displacement is the same direction as that induced by substitution of P for As, where superconductivity is induced by a structural modification without carrier do** in this system.

We discuss that the result is consistent with the heavy quark symmetry. No bound state is observed from the analysis of the scattering phase shift; however, this shall lead to a future search of the hidden-charm pentaquarks by considering channel-coupling effects.

In this contribution, we focus on the strangeness $S=-1$ channels of the hyperon interactions by means of HAL QCD method. Four sets of three potentials (the $^3S_1-^3D_1$ central, $^3S_1-^3D_1$ tensor, and the $^1S_0$ central potentials) are presented for the $ΣN - ΣN$ (the isospin $I=3/2$) diagonal, the $ΛN - ΛN$ diagonal, the $ΛN \rightarrow ΣN$ transition, and the $ΣN - ΣN$ ($I=1/2$) diagonal interactions. Scattering phase shifts for $ΣN$ $(I=3/2)$ system are presented.

Physical observables, such as the scattering phase shifts and the binding energies, calculated from the non-local HAL QCD potential do not depend on the sink operators used to define the potential. This is called the scheme independence of the HAL QCD method. In practical applications, the derivative expansion of the non-local potential is employed, so that physical observables may receive some scheme dependence at given order of the expansion. In this paper, we compare the $I=2$ $ππ$ scattering phase shifts obtained in the point-sink scheme (the standard scheme in the HAL QCD method) and the smeared-sink scheme (the LapH smearing newly introduced in the HAL QCD method). Although potentials in different schemes have different forms as expected, we find that, for reasonably small smearing size, the resultant scattering phase shifts agree with each other if the next-to-leading order (NLO) term is taken into account. We also find that the HAL QCD potential in the point-sink scheme has negligible NLO term for wide range of energies, which implies a good convergence of the derivative expansion in this case, while the potential in the smeared-sink scheme has non-negligible NLO contribution. Implication of this observation to the future studies of resonance channels (such as the $I=0$ and $1$ $ππ$ scatterings) with smeared all-to-all propagators is briefly discussed. All computations in this paper have been performed at the lattice spacing $a\simeq 0.12$ fm ($1/a \simeq 1.6$ GeV) on a $16^3\times 32$ lattice with the pion mass $m_π\simeq 870$ MeV.

We study the central potential in $^1S_0$ channel as well as central and tensor potentials in $^3S_1 - $$^3D_1$ channel, and find that the tensor potential for $Λ_c N$ is negligibly weak and central potentials in both $^1S_0$ and $^3S_1 - $$^3D_1$ channels are almost identical with each other except at short distances. Phase shifts and scattering lengths calculated with these potentials show that the interaction of $Λ_c N$ system is attractive and has a similar strength in $^1S_0$ and $^3S_1$ channels at low energies (i.e. the kinetic energy less than about $40$ MeV). While the attractions are not strong enough to form two-body bound states, our results lead to a possibility to form $Λ_c$ hypernuclei for sufficiently large atomic numbers ($A$). To demonstrate this, we derive a single-folding potential for $Λ_c$ hypernuclei from the $Λ_c$-nucleon potential obtained in lattice QCD, and find that $Λ_c$ hypernuclei can exist for $A \ge 12$ with the binding energies of a few MeV. We also estimate the Coulomb effect for the $Λ_c$ hypernuclei.

We give a formula to calculate a matrix element of a conserved current in the effective quantum mechanics defined by the wave function equivalent potentials proposed by HAL QCD collaboration. As a first step, a non-relativistic field theory with two channel coupling is considered as the original theory, with which a wave function equivalent HAL QCD potential is obtained in a closed analytic form. The external field method is used to derive the formula by demanding that the result should agree with the original theory. With this formula, the matrix element is obtained by sandwiching the effective current operator between the left and the right eigen functions of the effective Hamiltonian associated with the HAL QCD potential. In addition to the naive one-body current, the effective current operator contains an additional two-body term emerging from the degrees of freedom which has been integrated out.

Japanese Venus Climate Orbiter/AKATSUKI was proposed in 2001 with strong support by international Venus science community and approved as an ISAS (The Institute of Space and Astronautical Science) mission soon after the proposal. The mission life we expected was more than two Earth years in Venus orbit. AKATSUKI was successfully launched at 06:58:22JST on May 21, 2010, by H-IIA F17. After the separation from H-IIA, the telemetry from AKATSUKI was normally detected by DSN Goldstone station (10:00JST) and the solar cell paddles' deployment was confirmed. After a successful cruise, the malfunction happened on the propulsion system during the Venus orbit insertion (VOI) on Dec 7, 2010. The engine shut down before the planned reduction in speed to achieve. The spacecraft did not enter the Venus orbit, but entered an orbit around the Sun with a period of 203 days. Most of the fuel still had remained, but the orbital maneuvering engine was found to be broken and unusable. However, we have found an alternate way of achieving orbit by using only the reaction control system (RSC). We had adopted the alternate way for orbital maneuver and three minor maneuvers in Nov 2011 were successfully done so that AKATSUKI would meet Venus in 2015. We are considering several scenarios for VOI using only RCS.

On the basis of the Lüscher's finite volume formula, a simple test (consistency check or sanity check) is introduced and applied to inspect the recent claims of the existence of the nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) bound state(s) for heavy quark masses in lattice QCD. We show that the consistency between the scattering phase shifts at $k^2 > 0$ and/or $k^2 < 0$ obtained from the lattice data and the behavior of phase shifts from the effective range expansion (ERE) around $k^2=0$ exposes the validity of the original lattice data, otherwise such information is hidden in the energy shift $ΔE$ of the two nucleons on the lattice. We carry out this sanity check for all the lattice results in the literature claiming the existence of the $NN$ bound state(s) for heavy quark masses, and find that (i) some of the $NN$ data show clear inconsistency between the behavior of ERE at $k^2 > 0$ and that at $k^2 < 0$, (ii) some of the $NN$ data exhibit singular behavior of the low energy parameter (such as the divergent effective range) at $k^2<0$, (iii) some of the $NN$ data have the unphysical residue for the bound state pole in S-matrix, and (iv) the rest of the $NN$ data are inconsistent among themselves. Furthermore, we raise a caution of using the ERE in the case of the multiple bound states. Our finding, together with the fake plateau problem previously pointed out by the present authors, brings a serious doubt on the existence of the $NN$ bound states for pion masses heavier than 300 MeV in the previous studies.

The derivative expansion is generalized, and then applied to the energy-independent and non-local potentials. The expansion coefficients are determined from analytic solutions to the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave functions. The scattering phase shifts computed from these potentials are compared with the exact values to examine the convergence of the expansion. It is confirmed that the generalized derivative expansion converges in terms of the scattering phase shift rather than the functional structure of the non-local potentials. It is also found that the convergence can be improved by tuning either the choice of interpolating fields or expansion scale in the generalized derivative expansion.

Transient single-particle spectral function of BaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$, a parent compound of iron-based superconductors, has been studied by time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy with an extreme-ultraviolet laser generated by higher harmonics from Ar gas, which enables us to investigate the dynamics in the entire Brillouin zone. We observed electronic modifications from the spin-density-wave (SDW) ordered state within $\sim$ 1 ps after the arrival of a 1.5 eV pump pulse. We observed optically excited electrons at the zone center above $E_{F}$ at 0.12 ps, and their rapid decay. After the fast decay of the optically excited electrons, a thermalized state appears and survives for a relatively long time. From the comparison with the density-functional theory band structure for the paramagnetic and SDW states, we interpret the experimental observations as the melting of the SDW. Exponential decay constants for the thermalized state to recover back to the SDW ground state are $\sim$ 0.60 ps both around the zone center and the zone corner.

Single state saturation of the temporal correlation function is a key condition to extract physical observables such as energies and matrix elements of hadrons from lattice QCD simulations. A method commonly employed to check the saturation is to seek for a plateau of the observables for large Euclidean time. Identifying the plateau in the cases having nearby states, however, is non-trivial and one may even be misled by a fake plateau. Such a situation takes place typically for the system with two or more baryons. In this study, we demonstrate explicitly the danger from a possible fake plateau in the temporal correlation functions mainly for two baryons ($ΞΞ$ and $NN$), and three and four baryons ($^3{\rm He}$ and $^4{\rm He})$ as well, employing (2+1)-flavor lattice QCD at $m_π=0.51$ GeV on four lattice volumes with $L=$ 2.9, 3.6, 4.3 and 5.8 fm. Caution is given for drawing conclusion on the bound $NN$, $3N$ and $4N$ systems only based on the temporal correlation functions.

Abstract:
We describe an efficient algorithm to compute a large number of baryon-baryon interactions from $NN$ to $ΞΞ$ by means of HAL QCD method, which lays the groundwork for the nearly physical point lattice QCD calculation with volume $(96a)^4\approx$($8.2$fm)$^4$. Preliminary results of $ΛN$ potential calculated with quark masses corresponding to ($m_π$,$m_{K}$)$\approx$(146,525)MeV are presented.

The possible exotic meson $Z_{c}(3900)$, found in $e^+ e^-$ reactions, is studied by the method of coupled-channel scattering in lattice QCD. Semi-phenomenological analyses with the coupled-channel interaction are presented to confirm this conclusion.

Baryon forces are calculated from Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter (NBS) correlation functions using the time-dependent HAL QCD method. In this report, we first give the general overview of the theoretical frameworks essential to the physical point calculation of baryon forces. We then present the numerical results for the two-nucleon central and tensor forces in $^3S_1$-$^3D_1$ coupled channel and the central force in $^1S_0$ channel. In particular, a clear signal is obtained for the tensor force.

The $ΩΩ$ potential has a repulsive core at short distance and an attractive well at intermediate distance. Accordingly, the phase shift obtained from the potential shows moderate attraction at low energies. Our data indicate that the $ΩΩ$ system with the present quark masses may appear close to the unitary limit where the scattering length diverges.

The $ud$ and $s$ quark masses in our study correspond to $m_π= 875(1)$ MeV and $m_{K}= 916(1)$ MeV. At these parameter values, the central potential in the S-wave with the spin 2 shows attractions at all distances.By solving the Schrödinger equation with this potential, we find one bound state whose binding energy is $18.9(5.0)(^{+12.1}_{-1.8})$ MeV, where the first error is the statistical one, while the second represents the systematic error.

For the charm quark, the relativistic heavy quark action is employed to treat its dynamics on the lattice. Using the HAL QCD method, we extract the S-wave potentials in lattice QCD simulations, from which the meson-meson scattering phase shifts are calculated. The phase shifts in the isospin triplet ($I$=1) channels indicate repulsive interactions, while those in the $I=0$ channels suggest attraction, growing as $m_π$ decreases. This is particularly prominent in the $T_{cc} (J^P=1^+,I=0)$ channel, though neither bound state nor resonance are found in the range $m_π =410-700$ MeV. We make a qualitative comparison of our results with the phenomenological diquark picture.

We present a lattice QCD study of the phase shift of $I{=}2$ $ππ$ scattering on the basis of two different approaches: the standard finite volume approach by Luscher and the recently introduced HAL QCD potential method. Quenched QCD simulations are performed on lattices with extents $N_s{=}16,24,32,48$ and $N_t{=}128$ as well as lattice spacing $a{\sim}0.115\,\mathrm{fm}$ and a pion mass of $m_π{\sim}940\,\mathrm{MeV}$. The phase shift and the scattering length are calculated in these two methods. In the potential method, the error is dominated by the systematic uncertainty associated with the violation of rotational symmetry due to finite lattice spacing. In Luscher's approach, such systematic uncertainty is difficult to be evaluated and thus is not included in this work. A systematic uncertainty attributed to the quenched approximation, however, is not evaluated in both methods. In case of the potential method, the phase shift can be calculated for arbitrary energies below the inelastic threshold. The energy dependence of the phase shift is also obtained from Luscher's method using different volumes and/or nonrest-frame extension of it. The results are found to agree well with the potential method.

These potentials are constructed from the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave functions for J^P=0^-, 1^- and 2^-, which correspond to A1^-, T1^- and T2^- + E^- representation of the cubic group, respectively. We have found a large and attractive spin-orbit potential VLS(r) in the isospin-triplet channel, which is qualitatively consistent with the phenomenological determination from the experimental scattering phase shifts. The potentials obtained from lattice QCD are used to calculate the scattering phase shifts in 1P1, 3P0, 3P1 and 3P2-3F2 channels. The strong attractive spin-orbit force and a weak repulsive central force in spin-triplet P-wave channels lead to an attraction in the 3P2 channel, which is related to the P-wave neutron paring in neutron stars.
