Power duality in Feynman's path integral formulation of quantum mechanics is investigated. The power duality transformation consists of a change in coordinate and time variables, an exchange of energy and coupling, and a classical angular momentum replacement. Two physical systems connected by the transformation form a power-dual pair. The propagator (Feynman's kernel) expressed by Feynman's path integral cannot be form-invariant under the transformation, whereas the promotor constructed by modifying Feynman's path integral is found form-invariant insofar as the angular momentum is classical. Upon angular quantization, the power duality breaks down. To save the notion of power duality, the idea of quasi power duality is proposed, which constitutes of an ad hoc angular momentum replacement. The power-dual invariant promotor leads to the quasi-dual invariant Green function. A formula is proposed, which determines the Green function for one of a dual pair by knowing the Green function for the other. As examples, the Coulomb-Hooke dual pair and a family of two-term confinement potentials for a zero-energy state are discussed.

The Newton--Hooke duality and its generalization to arbitrary power laws in classical, semiclassical and quantum mechanics are discussed. We pursue a view that the power-law duality is a symmetry of the action under a set of duality operations. The power dual symmetry is defined by invariance and reciprocity of the action in the form of Hamilton's characteristic function. We find that the power-law duality is basically a classical notion and breaks down at the level of angular quantization. We propose an ad hoc procedure to preserve the dual symmetry in quantum mechanics. The energy-coupling exchange maps required as part of the duality operations that take one system to another lead to an energy formula that relates the new energy to the old energy. The transformation property of {the} Green function satisfying the radial Schrödinger equation yields a formula that relates the new Green function to the old one. The energy spectrum of the linear motion in a fractional power potential is semiclassically evaluated. We find a way to show the Coulomb--Hooke duality in the supersymmetric semiclassical action. We also study the confinement potential problem with the help of the dual structure of a two-term power potential.

The resolvent of supersymmetric Dirac Hamiltonian is studied in detail. Due to supersymmetry the squared Dirac Hamiltonian becomes block-diagonal whose elements are in essence non-relativistic Schrödinger-type Hamiltonians. This enables us to find a Feynman-type path-integral representation of the resulting Green's functions. In addition, we are also able to express the spectral properties of the…

This enables us to find a Feynman-type path-integral representation of the resulting Green's functions. In addition, we are also able to express the spectral properties of the supersymmetric Dirac Hamiltonian in terms of those of the non-relativistic Schrödinger Hamiltonians. The methods are explicitly applied to the free Dirac Hamiltonian, the so-called Dirac oscillator and a generalization of it. The general approach is applicable to systems with good and broken supersymmetry.

Two examples having the symmetry of a non-compact Lie group are considered. The first is the free quantum motion of a particle on a space of constant negative curvature. The system has a group SO(d,1) associated with the geometrical structure, to which the technique of harmonic analysis on a homogeneous space is applied. As an example of a system having a non-compact dynamical symmetry, the d-dimensional harmonic oscillator is chosen, which has the non-compact dynamical group SU(1,1) besides its geometrical symmetry SO(d). The radial path integral is seen as a convolution of the matrix functions of a compact group element of SU(1,1) on the continuous basis.

We show that it is possible to flip the spin by inducing a geometric phase on the spin state of a quantum dot. We estimate the geometric spin flip time (approximately 2 pico-sec) which turned out to be much shorter than the experimentally reported decoherence time (approx. 100 nano-sec) that would provide an alternative means of fli** the spin before reaching decoherence. It is important that both the Rashba coupling and the Dresselhaus coupling are present for inducing a phase necessary for spin flip. If one of them is absent, the induced phase is trivial and irrelevant for spin-flip.

The spin of a single electron in an electrically defined quantum dot in a 2DEG can be manipulated by moving the quantum dot adiabatically in a closed loop in the 2D plane under the influence of applied gate potentials. In this paper we present analytical expressions and numerical simulations for the spin-flip probabilities during the adiabatic evolution in the presence of the Rashba and Dresselhaus linear spin-orbit interactions. We use the Feynman disentanglement technique to determine the non-Abelian Berry phase and we find exact analytical expressions for three special cases: (i) the pure Rashba spin-orbit coupling, (ii) the pure Dresselhause linear spin-orbit coupling, and (iii) the mixture of the Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit couplings with equal strength. For a mixture of the Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit couplings with unequal strengths, we obtain simulation results by solving numerically the Riccati equation originating from the disentangling procedure. We find that the spin-flip probability in the presence of the mixed spin-orbit couplings is generally larger than those for the pure Rashba case and for the pure Dresselhaus case, and that the complete spin-flip takes place only when the Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit couplings are mixed symmetrically.

It is further shown that the radial path integral in conical space can be reduced to a form identical with that in flat space when the discrete angular momentum of each partial wave is replaced by a specific non-integral angular momentum. The effective potential is found proportional to the squared mean curvature of the conical surface embedded in Euclidean space. The path integral calculation is compatible with the Schrödinger equation modified with the Gaussian and the mean curvature.

By gauging $SO(2) \otimes T(1)$, first, we derive the metric, curvature, and torsion of the medium of dispiration. Then we carry out explicitly path integration for the propagator of a particle moving in the non-Euclidean medium under the influence of a scalar potential and a vector potential. We obtain also the winding number representation of the propagator by taking the non-trivial topological structure of the medium into account. We extract the energy spectrum and the eigenfunctions from the propagator. Finally we make some remarks for special cases. Particularly, paying attention to the difference between the result of the path integration and the solution of Schrödinger's equation in the case of disclination, we suggest that Schrödinger equation may have to be modified by a curvature term.

First, classical mechanics of a supersymmetric system is considered. Solutions of the classical equations of motion are given and their properties are discussed in some detail. The corresponding quantum model is constructed by canonical quantization. The quantum model is analyzed by Feynman's path integral within a stationary-phase approximation. A quasi-classical quantization rule is derived, which is applicable when supersymmetry is exact or spontaneously broken.

{}From Feynman's path integral, we derive quasi-classical quantization rules in supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSY-QM). First, we derive a SUSY counterpart of Gutzwiller's formula, from which we obtain the quantization rule of Comtet, Bandrauk and Campbell when SUSY is good. When SUSY is broken, we arrive at a new quantization formula, which is found as good as and even sometime better than the WKB formula in evaluating energy spectra for certain one-dimensional bound state problems. The wave functions in the stationary phase approximation are also derived for SUSY and broken SUSY cases. Insofar as a broken SUSY case is concerned, there are strong indications that the new quasi-classical approximation formula always overestimates the energy eigenvalues while WKB always underestimates.
