This paper proposes a new task called spatial voice conversion, which aims to convert a target voice while preserving spatial information and non-target signals. Traditional voice conversion methods focus on single-channel waveforms, ignoring the stereo listening experience inherent in human hearing. Our baseline approach addresses this gap by integrating blind source separation (BSS), voice conversion (VC), and spatial mixing to handle multi-channel waveforms. Through experimental evaluations, we organize and identify the key challenges inherent in this task, such as maintaining audio quality and accurately preserving spatial information. Our results highlight the fundamental difficulties in balancing these aspects, providing a benchmark for future research in spatial voice conversion. The proposed method's code is publicly available to encourage further exploration in this domain.

The observation of time-reversal symmetry breaking and large residual density of states in tetragonal FeSe$_{1-x}$S$_x$ suggests a novel type of ultranodal superconducting state with Bogoliubov Fermi surfaces (BFSs). Although such BFSs in centrosymmetric superconductors are expected to be topologically protected, the impurity effect of this exotic superconducting state remains elusive experimentally. Here, we investigate the impact of controlled defects introduced by electron irradiation on the superconducting state of tetragonal FeSe$_{1-x}$S$_x$ ($0.18\le x\le 0.25$). The temperature dependence of magnetic penetration depth is initially consistent with a model with BFSs in the pristine sample. After irradiation, we observe a nonmonotonic evolution of low-energy excitations with impurity concentrations. This nonmonotonic change indicates a transition from nodal to nodeless, culminating in gapless with Andreev bound states, reminiscent of the nodal $s_\pm$ case. This points to the accidental nature of the possible BFSs in tetragonal FeSe$_{1-x}$S$_x$, which are susceptible to disruption by the disorder.

To detect and track structural changes in atomic nuclei, the systematic study of nuclear levels with firm spin-parity assignments is important. While linear polarization measurements have been applied to determine the electromagnetic character of gamma-ray transitions, the applicable range is strongly limited due to the low efficiency of the detection system. The multi-layer Cadmium-Telluride (CdTe) Compton camera can be a state-of-the-art gamma-ray polarimeter for nuclear spectroscopy with the high position sensitivity and the detection efficiency. We demonstrated the capability to operate this detector as a reliable gamma-ray polarimeter by using polarized 847-keV gamma rays produced by the $^{56}\rm{Fe}({\it p},{\it p'}γ)$ reaction. By combining the experimental data and simulated calculations, the modulation curve for the gamma ray was successfully obtained. A remarkably high polarization sensitivity was achieved, compatible with a reasonable detection efficiency. Based on the obtained results, a possible future gamma-ray polarimetery is discussed.

The layered honeycomb magnet $α$-RuCl$_3$ is the most promising candidate for a Kitaev quantum spin liquid (KQSL) that can host charge-neutral Majorana fermions. Recent studies have shown significant sample dependence of thermal transport properties, which are a key probe of Majorana quasiparticles in the KQSL state, highlighting the importance of preparing high-quality single crystals of $α$-RuCl$_3$. Here, we present a relatively simple and reliable method to grow high-quality single crystals of $α$-RuCl$_3$. We use a two-step crystal growth method consisting of a purification process by chemical vapor transport (CVT) and a main crystal growth process by sublimation. The obtained crystals exhibit a distinct first-order structural phase transition from the monoclinic ($C2/m$) to the rhombohedral ($R\bar{3}$) structure at $\sim150$ K, which is confirmed by the nuclear quadrupole resonance spectra with much sharper widths than previously reported. The Raman spectra show the absence of defect-induced modes, supporting the good crystallinity of our samples. The jumps in the thermal expansion coefficient and specific heat at the antiferromagnetic (AFM) transition at 7.6-7.7 K are larger and sharper than those of previous samples grown by the CVT and Bridgman methods and do not show any additional AFM transitions at 10-14 K due to stacking faults. The longitudinal thermal conductivity in the AFM phase is significantly larger than previously reported, indicating a very long mean free path of heat carriers. All the results indicate that our single crystals are of superior quality with good crystallinity and few stacking faults, which provides a suitable platform for studying the Kitaev physics.

The excitations in the Kitaev spin liquid (KSL) can be described by Majorana fermions, which have characteristic field dependence of bulk gap and topological edge modes. In the high-field state of layered honeycomb magnet $α$-RuCl$_3$, experimental results supporting these Majorana features have been reported recently. However, there are challenges due to sample dependence and the impact of inevitable disorder on the KSL is poorly understood. Here we study how low-energy excitations are modified by introducing point defects in $α$-RuCl$_3$ using electron irradiation, which induces site vacancies and exchange randomness. High-resolution measurements of the temperature dependence of specific heat $C(T)$ under in-plane fields $H$ reveal that while the field-dependent Majorana gap is almost intact, additional low-energy states with $C/T=A(H)T$ are induced by introduced defects. At low temperatures, we obtain the data collapse of $C/T\sim H^{-γ}(T/H)$ expected for a disordered quantum spin system, but with an anomalously large exponent $γ$. This leads us to find a power-law relationship between the coefficient $A(H)$ and the field-sensitive Majorana gap. These results are consistent with the picture that the disorder induces low-energy linear Majorana excitations, which may be considered as a weak localization effect of Majorana fermions in the KSL.

In this paper, we propose algorithms for handling non-integer strides in sampling-frequency-independent (SFI) convolutional and transposed convolutional layers. The SFI layers have been developed for handling various sampling frequencies (SFs) by a single neural network. They are replaceable with their non-SFI counterparts and can be introduced into various network architectures. However, they could not handle some specific configurations when combined with non-SFI layers. For example, an SFI extension of Conv-TasNet, a standard audio source separation model, cannot handle some pairs of trained and target SFs because the strides of the SFI layers become non-integers. This problem cannot be solved by simple rounding or signal resampling, resulting in the significant performance degradation. To overcome this problem, we propose algorithms for handling non-integer strides by using windowed sinc interpolation. The proposed algorithms realize the continuous-time representations of features using the interpolation and enable us to sample instants with the desired stride. Experimental results on music source separation showed that the proposed algorithms outperformed the rounding- and signal-resampling-based methods at SFs lower than the trained SF.

The field-induced quantum disordered state of layered honeycomb magnet $α$-RuCl$_3$ is a prime candidate for Kitaev spin liquids hosting Majorana fermions and non-Abelian anyons. Recent observations of anomalous planar thermal Hall effect demonstrate a topological edge mode, but whether it originates from Majorana fermions or bosonic magnons remains controversial. Here we distinguish these origins from low-temperature measurements of high-resolution specific heat and thermal Hall conductivity with rotating in-plane fields. In the honeycomb bond direction, a distinct closure of the low-energy bulk gap is observed concomitantly with the sign reversal of the Hall effect. General discussions of topological bands show that this is the hallmark of an angle-rotation-induced topological transition of fermions, providing conclusive evidence for the Majorana-fermion origin of the thermal Hall effect in $α$-RuCl$_3$.

The paramagnetic spin-triplet superconductor UTe$_2$ has attracted significant attention because of its exotic superconducting properties including an extremely high upper critical field and possible chiral superconducting states. Recently, ultraclean single crystals of UTe$_2$ have become available, and thus measurements on these crystals are crucial to elucidate the intrinsic superconducting properties. Here, we report the thermodynamic critical field $H_{\rm c}$, the lower critical field $H_{\rm c1}$, and the upper critical field $H_{\rm c2}$ at low fields of these high-quality single crystals. From the comparison of the anisotropies in $H_{\rm c1}$ and $H_{\rm c2}$, we find that the experimental $H_{\rm c1}$ values with the magnetic field along $b$- and $c$-axes are anomalously enhanced, showing unusual low-temperature upturns. We propose an effect of the strong Ising-like ferromagnetic fluctuations on the vortex line energy as the origin of the anisotropic enhancement of $H_{\rm c1}$.

Multilingual pretrained models are effective for machine translation and cross-lingual processing because they contain multiple languages in one model. However, they are pretrained after their tokenizers are fixed; therefore it is difficult to change the vocabulary after pretraining. When we extend the pretrained models to new languages, we must modify the tokenizers simultaneously. In this paper, we add new subwords to the SentencePiece tokenizer to apply a multilingual pretrained model to new languages (Inuktitut in this paper). In our experiments, we segmented Inuktitut sentences into subwords without changing the segmentation of already pretrained languages, and applied the mBART-50 pretrained model to English-Inuktitut translation.

The development of ultrahigh quality factor (Q) microresonators has been driving such technologies as cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED), high-precision sensing, optomechanics, and optical frequency comb generation. Here we report ultrahigh-Q crystalline microresonator fabrication with a Q exceeding $10^8$, for the first time, achieved solely by computer-controlled ultraprecision machining. Our fabrication method readily achieved the dispersion engineering and size control of fabricated devices via programmed machine motion. Moreover, in contrast to the conventional polishing method, our machining fabrication approach avoids the need for subsequent careful polishing, which is generally required to ensure that surface integrity is maintained, and this enabled us to realize an ultrahigh-Q. We carefully addressed the cutting condition and crystal anisotropy to overcome the large surface roughness that has thus far been the primary cause of the low-Q in the machining process. Our result paves the way for future mass-production with a view to various photonic applications utilizing ultrahigh-Q crystalline microresonators.

This paper proposes a novel multilingual multistage fine-tuning approach for low-resource neural machine translation (NMT), taking a challenging Japanese--Russian pair for benchmarking. Although there are many solutions for low-resource scenarios, such as multilingual NMT and back-translation, we have empirically confirmed their limited success when restricted to in-domain data. We therefore propose to exploit out-of-domain data through transfer learning, by using it to first train a multilingual NMT model followed by multistage fine-tuning on in-domain parallel and back-translated pseudo-parallel data. Our approach, which combines domain adaptation, multilingualism, and back-translation, helps improve the translation quality by more than 3.7 BLEU points, over a strong baseline, for this extremely low-resource scenario.

We present visible and near-infrared observations of a near-Earth object (NEO), 2012 $\mathrm{TC_4}$. The NEO 2012 $\mathrm{TC_4}$ approached close to the Earth at a distance of about 50,000 km in October 2017. This close approach provided a practical exercise for planetary defense. This apparition was also an appropriate opportunity to investigate 2012 $\mathrm{TC_4}$, which is a monolithic asteroid \citep{Polishook13}. We conducted the observation campaign of 2012 $\mathrm{TC_4}$ using six small- and medium-sized telescopes. The multiband photometry analysis showed that the taxonomic class of 2012 $\mathrm{TC_4}$ to be an X-type. In particular, we successfully obtained the high time resolution lightcurve of 2012 $\mathrm{TC_4}$ with the Tomo-e Gozen camera, which is the world's first wide-field CMOS camera, mounted on the 1.05 m Schmidt telescope at Kiso Observatory. The shape and rotational motion models of 2012 $\mathrm{TC_4}$ were derived from the lightcurve. When 2012 $\mathrm{TC_4}$ was assumed to be a triaxial ellipsoid, the rotational and precession periods were 8.47 $\pm$ 0.01 min and 12.25 $\pm$ 0.01 min, respectively, with the long axis mode. This indicates that 2012 $\mathrm{TC_4}$ is a tumbling and monolithic asteroid. The shape models showed that the plausible axial lengths to be 6.2 $\times$ 8.0 $\times$ 14.9~m or 3.3 $\times$ 8.0 $\times$ 14.3~m. The flattened and elongated shape indicates that 2012 $\mathrm{TC_4}$ is a fragment produced by a impact event. We also estimated the excitation timescale, which implied that the impact event happened within $\sim$3 $\times$ 10$^{5}$ yr and 2012 $\mathrm{TC_4}$ has a fresh surface.

We study nearly degenerate four-wave mixing using a two-photon-allowed vibrational transition of parahydrogen. A signal photon is generated by a trigger photon and coherence among parahydrogen, which is prepared by two counterpropagating pump pulses. The dependence of the signal pulse energy on the trigger frequency are investigated. The measured spectra vary depending on the geometry. They shift depending on the direction of the signal pulse and on the small angle formed by the counterpropagating pump pulses. Furthermore, the dependence of signal pulse energy on the incident time of the trigger pulse is investigated. The measured signal pulse energy is high if the trigger pulse is slightly delayed with respect to the pump pulses. We demonstrate that these geometry-dependent spectra and coherent-transient response can be explained by using simple models.

Exotic nuclei are characterized by a number of neutrons (or protons) in excess relative to stable nuclei. Their shell structure, which represents single-particle motion in a nucleus, may vary due to nuclear force and excess neutrons, in a phenomenon called shell evolution. This effect could be counterbalanced by collective modes causing deformations of the nuclear surface. Here, we study the interplay between shell evolution and shape deformation by focusing on the magnetic moment of an isomeric state of the neutron-rich nucleus 75Cu. We measure the magnetic moment using highly spin-controlled rare-isotope beams and achieving large spin alignment via a two-step reaction scheme that incorporates an angular-momentum-selecting nucleon removal. By combining our experiments with numerical simulations of many-fermion correlations, we find that the low-lying states in 75Cu are, to a large extent, of single-particle nature on top of a correlated 74Ni core. We elucidate the crucial role of shell evolution even in the presence of the collective mode, and within the same framework, we consider whether and how the double magicity of the 78Ni nucleus is restored, which is also of keen interest from the perspective of nucleosynthesis in explosive stellar processes.

A single narrow-linewidth laser source was used to excite the parahydrogen molecules and induce the two-photon emission process. We measured how the signal energy depended on the detuning, target gas pressure, and input pulse energies. These results are qualitatively consistent with those obtained by numerical simulations based on the Maxwell-Bloch equations with one spatial dimension and one temporal dimension. Continuing the project described by Kato et al. (2009, arXiv:0905.1757), we collected times of superhump maxima for 102 SU UMa-type dwarf novae observed mainly during the 2014-2015 season and characterized these objects. Our project has greatly improved the statistics of the distribution of orbital periods, which is a good approximation of the distribution of cataclysmic variables at the terminal evolutionary stage, and confirmed the presence of a period minimum at a period of 0.053 d and a period spike just above this period. The number density monotonically decreased toward the longer period and there was no strong indication of a period gap. We detected possible negative superhumps in Z Cha. It is possible that normal outbursts are also suppressed by the presence of a disk tilt in this system. There was no indication of enhanced orbital humps just preceding the superoutburst, and this result favors the thermal-tidal disk instability as the origin of superoutbursts. We detected superhumps in three AM CVn-type dwarf novae. Our observations and recent other detections suggest that 8% of objects showing dwarf nova-type outbursts are AM CVn-type objects. AM CVn-type objects and EI Psc-type object may be more abundant than previously recognized. OT J213806, a WZ Sge-type object, exhibited a remarkably different feature between the 2010 and 2014 superoutbursts. Although the 2014 superoutburst was much fainter the plateau phase was shorter than the 2010 one, the course of the rebrightening phase was similar. This object indicates that the O-C diagrams of superhumps can be indeed variable at least in WZ Sge-type objects. Four deeply eclipsing SU UMa-type dwarf novae (ASASSN-13cx, ASASSN-14ag, ASASSN-15bu, NSV 4618) were identified. We studied long-term trends in supercycles in MM Hya and CY UMa and found systematic variations of supercycles of ~20%.

Continuing the project described by Kato et al. We detected negative superhumps in VW Hyi and indicated that the low number of normal outbursts in some supercycle can be interpreted as a result of the disk tilt. This finding, combined with the Kepler observation of V1504 Cyg and V344 Lyr, suggests that the disk tilt is responsible for modulating the outburst pattern in SU UMa-type dwarf novae. We also studied the deeply eclipsing WZ Sge-type dwarf nova MASTER OT J005740.99+443101.5 and found evidence of a sharp eclipse during the phase of early superhumps. The profile can be reproduced by a combination of the eclipse of the axisymmetric disk and the uneclipsed light source of early superhumps. This finding confirms the lack of evince of a greatly enhanced hot spot during the early stage of WZ Sge-type outburst. We detected growing (stage A) superhumps in MN Dra and give a suggestion that some of SU UMa-type dwarf novae situated near the critical condition of tidal instability may show long-lasting stage A superhumps. The large negative period derivatives reported in such systems can be understood a result of the combination of stage A and B superhumps. The WZ Sge-type dwarf novae AL Com and ASASSN-13ck showed a long-lasting (plateau-type) rebrightening. In the early phase of the rebrightening, both objects showed a precursor-like outburst, suggesting that the long-lasting rebrightening is triggered by a precursor outburst.

We carried out the photometric observations of the SU UMa-type dwarf nova ER UMa during 2011 and 2012, which showed the existence of persistent negative superhumps even during the superoutburst. We performed two-dimensional period analysis of its light curves by using a method called "least absolute shrinkage and selection operator" (Lasso) and "phase dispersion minimization" (PDM) analysis, and we found that the period of negative superhumps systematically changed between a superoutburst and the next superoutburst. The trend of the period change can beinterpreted as reflecting the change of the disk radius. This change of the disk radius is in good agreement with the predicted change of the disk radius by the thermal-tidal instability (TTI) model. The normal outbursts within a supercycle showed a general trend that the rising rate to maximum becomes slower as the next superoutburst approaches. The change can be interpreted as the consequence of the increased gas-stream flow onto the inner region of the disk as the result of the tilted disk. Some of the superoutbursts were found to be triggered by a precursor normal outburst when the positive superhumps appeared to develop. The positive and negative superhumps co-existed during the superoutburst. The positive superhumps were prominent only during four or five days after the supermaximum, while the signal of the negative superhumps became strong after the middle phase of the superoutburst plateau. A simple combination of the positive and negative superhumps was found to be insufficient in reproducing the complex profile variation. We were able to detect the develo** phase of positive superhumps (stage A superhumps) for the first time in ER UMa-type dwarf novae. Using the period of stage A superhumps, we obtained a mass ratio of 0.100(15), which indicates that ER UMa is on the ordinary evolutional track of CVs.

We found three objects (V444 Peg, CSS J203937 and MASTER J212624) having strongly positive period derivatives despite the long orbital period (Porb). By using the period of growing stage (stage A) superhumps, we obtained mass ratios for six objects. We characterized nine new WZ Sge-type dwarf novae. We made a pilot survey of the decline rate of slowly fading part of SU UMa-type and WZ Sge-type outbursts. The decline time scale was found to generally follow the expected Porb^(1/4) dependence and WZ Sge-type outbursts also generally follow this trend. There are some objects which show slower decline rates, and we consider these objects good candidates for period bouncers. We also studied unusual behavior in some objects, including BK Lyn which made a transition from an ER UMa-type state to the novalike (standstill) state in 2013 and unusually frequent occurrence of superoutbursts in NY Ser and CR Boo. We applied least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso) power spectral analysis, which has been proven to be very effective in analyzing the Kepler data, to ground-based photometry of BK Lyn and detected the dramatic disappearance of the signal of negative superhumps in 2013. We suggested that the mass-transfer rates did not vary strongly between the ER UMa-type state and novalike state in BK Lyn, and this transition was less likely caused by a systematic variation of the mass-transfer rate.

We present our observational results of the recurrent nova T Pyxidis at its early stage of 2011 outburst, using a low-resolution spectrograph ($R\approx400$) attached to a 28cm telescope. Total nights of our observation are 11, among which 9 nights are during the pre-maximum stage. As a result we have obtained a detailed evolutional feature of this recurrent nova on the way to its maximum light. At first, on the earliest three nights ($-25 \sim -21$ days before maximum), broad and prominent emission lines such as Balmer series, He I, He II, N II, N III and O I together with P Cygni profile are seen on the spectra. The blueshifted absorption minima of H$α$ yields a maximum expansion velocity of approximately 2200 km s$^{-1}$, and the velocity gradually decreases. Then, Helium and Nitrogen lines are weakened day by day. After that (18 days before maximum light), Fe II (multiplets) lines emerge on the spectra. These lines are then strengthened day by day, and the P Cygni profiles also become more prominent. Accordingly, the expansion velocities turns to be gradual increase. In addition, during the pre-maximum stage, nova spectral type of T Pyx is thought to evolve from He/N type to Fe II one.

Continuing the project described by Kato et al. (2009, arXiv:0905.1757), we studied 86 SU UMa-type dwarf novae. We confirmed the general trends such as the relation between period derivatives and orbital periods. There are some systems showing positive period derivatives despite the long orbital periods. We observed the 2011 outburst of the WZ Sge-type dwarf nova BW Scl, and recorded an O-C diagram similar to those of previously known WZ Sge-type dwarf novae. The WZ Sge-type dwarf nova OT J184228.1+483742 showed an unusual pattern of double outbursts composed of an outburst with early superhumps and one with ordinary superhumps. We propose an interpretation that a very small growth rate of the 3:1 resonance due to an extremely low mass-ratio led to a quenching of the superoutburst before the ordinary superhumps appeared. We studied ER UMa-type dwarf novae and found that V1159 Ori showed positive superhumps similar to ER UMa in the 1990s. The recently recognized ER UMa-type object BK Lyn dominantly showed negative superhumps, and its behavior was very similar to the present-day state of ER UMa. The pattern of period variations in AM CVn-type objects were very similar to short-period hydrogen-rich SU UMa-type dwarf novae, making them helium analogue of hydrogen-rich SU UMa-type dwarf novae. SBS 1108+574, a peculiar hydrogen-rich dwarf nova below the period minimum, showed a very similar pattern of period variations to those of short-period SU UMa-type dwarf novae. The mass-ratio derived from the detected orbital period suggests that this secondary is a somewhat evolved star whose hydrogen envelope was mostly stripped during the mass-exchange. CC Scl, MASTER OT J072948.66+593824.4 and OT J173516.9+154708 showed only low-amplitude superhumps with complex profiles. These superhumps are likely a combination of closely separated two periods.

We report on a discovery of "negative" superhumps during the 2011 January superoutburst of ER UMa. During the superoutburst which started on 2011 January 16, we detected negative superhumps having a period of 0.062242(9) d, shorter than the orbital period by 2.2%. No evidence of positive superhumps was detected during this observation. This finding indicates that the disk exhibited retrograde precession during this superoutburst, contrary to all other known cases of superoutbursts. The duration of this superoutburst was shorter than those of ordinary superoutbursts and the intervals of normal outbursts were longer than ordinary ones. We suggest a possibility that such unusual outburst properties are likely a result of the disk tilt, which is supposed to be a cause of negative superhumps: the tilted disk could prevent the disk from being filled with materials in the outmost region which is supposed to be responsible for long-duration superoutbursts in ER UMa-type dwarf novae. The discovery signifies the importance of the classical prograde precession in sustaining long-duration superoutbursts. Furthermore, the presence of pronounced negative superhumps in this system with a high mass-transfer rate favors the hypothesis that hydrodynamical lift is the cause of the disk tilt.

A report on the spectroscopic and multi-color photometric observations of high galactic latitude classical nova KT Eridani (Nova Eridani 2009) is presented. After 12.2 days from maximum light, broad and prominent emission lines of Balmer series, He I, He II, N II, N III and O I can be seen on the spectra. The FWHM of H$α$ line yields an expansion velocity of approximately 3400 km s$^{-1}$. After 279.4 days from maximum light, we can see prominent emission lines of He II and [O III] on the spectrum. Among them, [O III] (4959, 5007) lines show multiple peaks. From the obtained light curve, KT Eri is classified to be a very fast nova, with a decline rate by two magnitude of $6.2 \pm 0.3$ days and three of $14.3 \pm 0.7$ days. We tried to estimate the absolute magnitude ($M_V$) using the Maximum Magnitude versus Rate of Decline relationship and distance of KT Eri. The calculated $M_V$ is approximately -9. Accordingly, the distance and galactic height are approximately 7 kpc and 4 kpc, respectively. Hence, KT Eri is concluded to be located outside of the galactic disk.

(2010, PASJ 62, 1525, arXiv:1009.5444), the long-period system GX Cas showed an exceptionally large positive period derivative. An analysis of public Kepler data of V344 Lyr and V1504 Cyg yielded less striking stage transitions. In V344 Lyr, there was prominent secondary component growing during the late stage of superoutbursts, and the component persisted at least for two more cycles of successive normal outbursts. We also investigated the superoutbursts of two conspicuous eclipsing objects: HT Cas and the WZ Sge-type object SDSS J080434.20+510349.2. Strong beat phenomena were detected in both objects, and late-stage superhumps in the latter object had an almost constant luminosity during the repeated rebrightenings. The WZ Sge-type object SDSS J133941.11+484727.5 showed a phase reversal around the rapid fading from the superoutburst. The object showed a prominent beat phenomenon even after the end of the superoutburst. A pilot study of superhump amplitudes indicated that the amplitudes of superhumps are strongly correlated with orbital periods, and the dependence on the inclination is weak in systems with inclinations smaller than 80 deg.

The newly obtained data confirmed the basic findings reported in Kato et al. (2009): the presence of stages A-C, as well as the predominance of positive period derivatives during stage B in systems with superhump periods shorter than 0.07 d. There was a systematic difference in period derivatives for systems with superhump periods longer than 0.075 d between this study and Kato et al. (2009). We suggest that this difference is possibly caused by the relative lack of frequently outbursting SU UMa-type dwarf novae in this period regime in the present study. We recorded a strong beat phenomenon during the 2009 superoutburst of IY UMa. The close correlation between the beat period and superhump period suggests that the changing angular velocity of the apsidal motion of the elliptical disk is responsible for the variation of superhump periods. We also described three new WZ Sge-type objects with established early superhumps and one with likely early superhumps. We also suggest that two systems, VX For and EL UMa, are WZ Sge-type dwarf novae with multiple rebrightenings. The O-C variation in OT J213806.6+261957 suggests that the frequent absence of rebrightenings in very short-Porb objects can be a result of sustained superoutburst plateau at the epoch when usual SU UMa-type dwarf novae return to quiescence preceding a rebrightening. We also present a formulation for a variety of Bayesian extension to traditional period analyses.

We successfully obtained time-series spectra at $t_{\rm d}=$0.37--0.44~d, where $t_{\rm d}$ denotes the time from the discovery of the present outburst. This is the first time-resolved spectroscopy on the first night of U Sco outbursts. At $t_{\rm d}\sim 0.4$~d the H$α$ line consists of a blue-shifted ($-5000$ km s$^{-1}$) narrow absorption component and a wide emission component having triple peaks, a blue ($\sim -3000$ km s$^{-1}$), a central ($\sim 0$ km s$^{-1}$) and a red ($\sim +3000$ km s$^{-1}$) ones. The blue and red peaks developed more rapidly than the central one during the first night. This rapid variation would be caused by the growth of aspherical wind produced during the earliest stage of the outburst. At $t_{\rm d}=1.4$~d the H$α$ line has a nearly flat-topped profile with weak blue and red peaks at $\sim \pm 3000$ km s$^{-1}$. This profile can be attributed to a nearly spherical shell, while the asphericity growing on the first night still remains. The wind asphericity is less significant after $t_{\rm d}=9$ d.

We systematically surveyed period variations of superhumps in SU UMa-type dwarf novae based on newly obtained data and past publications. In many systems, the evolution of superhump period are found to be composed of three distinct stages: early evolutionary stage with a longer superhump period, middle stage with systematically varying periods, final stage with a shorter, stable superhump period. During the middle stage, many systems with superhump periods less than 0.08 d show positive period derivatives. Contrary to the earlier claim, we found no clear evidence for variation of period derivatives between superoutburst of the same object. We present an interpretation that the lengthening of the superhump period is a result of outward propagation of the eccentricity wave and is limited by the radius near the tidal truncation. We interpret that late stage superhumps are rejuvenized excitation of 3:1 resonance when the superhumps in the outer disk is effectively quenched. Many of WZ Sge-type dwarf novae showed long-enduring superhumps during the post-superoutburst stage having periods longer than those during the main superoutburst. The period derivatives in WZ Sge-type dwarf novae are found to be strongly correlated with the fractional superhump excess, or consequently, mass ratio. WZ Sge-type dwarf novae with a long-lasting rebrightening or with multiple rebrightenings tend to have smaller period derivatives and are excellent candidate for the systems around or after the period minimum of evolution of cataclysmic variables (abridged).

Abstract:
We derive radial and vertical distributions of HI and H2 gas densities in our Galaxy by using the terminal velocity method. We calculate the molecular fraction (f_mol) defined as the ratio of the molecular hydrogen to total hydrogen gas density at galactic longitude l= 33 to 64 deg and galactic latitude b=-2 to +2 deg. The thickness of the molecular dominant region f_mol > 0.8 is approximately constant (109 +/- 12 pc) at galactocentric distance R = 4.7 to 7.2 kpc. The molecular fraction decreases suddenly at a critical height from the galactic plane, below which the gas disk is almost totally molecular, while it is almost atomic beyond this height. We show that the vertical f_mol variation can be reproduced by a model which takes into account the phase transition between HI and H2 gases in the interstellar matter. Key words: Atomic Hydrogen --- the Galaxy --- Interstellar Matter --- Molecular Hydrogen
