We report two fundamental inequalities in the Stoner-Wohlfarth model. Specifically, we investigate the theoretical limit for the initial magnetic susceptibility in a system described by the Stoner-Wohlfarth approach. We also find analytical solutions for the magnetization in the low-field regime and obtain the borderline value for the uniaxial anisotropy constant in such an ideal Stoner-Wohlfarth system. We go beyond and introduce a general mean-field theory for interacting Stoner-Wohlfarth-like systems, thus estimating how the initial magnetic susceptibility is affected by the dipolar and exchange interactions inside the system. By means of a simple insight from a fundamental inequality for the magnetic susceptibility of an ideal Stoner-Wohlfarth system, we show its violation is a signature of the existence of exchange interactions between nanoparticles in an interacting Stoner-Wohlfarth-like system.

We report a simple, efficient manner to assess magnetic interactions, more specifically the exchange interaction, in systems as blocked magnetic nanoparticles. Specifically, we investigate what is the theoretical limit for the external magnetic susceptibility in a system described by the plain old Stoner-Wohlfarth model. We go beyond and introduce a general mean field theory for interacting systems, thus estimating how the magnetic susceptibility is affected due to the dipolar and exchange interactions inside the system. We disclose a fundamental inequality for the magnetic susceptibility and show its violation is an unambiguous signature of the existence of exchange interactions between nanoparticles in a collective system. To test the robustness of our theoretical achievements, we examine magnetization measurements and Henkel plots for blocked magnetic nanopowders. The agreement between experiment and theory provides evidence to confirm the validity of our findings.

We investigate the magnetic nanoparticles (fluid) hyperthermia in non-adiabatic conditions through the calorimetric method. Specifically, we propose a theoretical approach to magnetic hyperthermia from a thermodynamic point of view. To test the robustness of the approach, we perform hyperthermia experiments and analyze the thermal behavior of magnetite and magnesium ferrite magnetic nanoparticles dispersed in water submitted to an alternating magnetic field. From our findings, besides estimating the specific loss power value from a non-adiabatic process, thus enhancing the accuracy in the determination of this quantity, we provide physical meaning to parameters found in literature that still remained not fully understood, and bring to light how they can be obtained experimentally.

The impact of online reviews on businesses has grown significantly during last years, being crucial to determine business success in a wide array of sectors, ranging from restaurants, hotels to e-commerce. Unfortunately, some users use unethical means to improve their online reputation by writing fake reviews of their businesses or competitors. Previous research has addressed fake review detection in a number of domains, such as product or business reviews in restaurants and hotels. However, in spite of its economical interest, the domain of consumer electronics businesses has not yet been thoroughly studied. This article proposes a feature framework for detecting fake reviews that has been evaluated in the consumer electronics domain. The contributions are fourfold: (i) Construction of a dataset for classifying fake reviews in the consumer electronics domain in four different cities based on scra** techniques; (ii) definition of a feature framework for fake review detection; (iii) development of a fake review classification method based on the proposed framework and (iv) evaluation and analysis of the results for each of the cities under study. We have reached an 82% F-Score on the classification task and the Ada Boost classifier has been proven to be the best one by statistical means according to the Friedman test.

Abstract:
Recent R-matrix calculations claim to produce a significant enhancement in the opacity of Fe XVII due to atomic core excitations [S. N. Nahar & A.K. Pradhan, Phys. Rev. Letters 116, 235003 (2016), arXiv:1606.02731] and assert that this enhancement is consistent with recent measurements of higher-than-predicted iron opacities [J. E. E. Bailey et al., Nature 517, 56 (2015)]. This comment shows that the standard opacity models which have already been directly compared with experimental data produce photon absorption cross-sections for Fe XVII that are effectively equivalent to (and in fact larger than) the new R-matrix opacities. Thus, the new R-matrix results cannot be expected to significantly impact the existing discrepancies between theory and experiment because they produce neither a "large enhancement" nor account for "missing continuum plasma opacity" relative to standard models.

The discovery of almost 2000 exoplanets has revealed an unexpectedly diverse planet population. Observations to date have shown that our Solar System is certainly not representative of the general population of planets in our Milky Way. The key science questions that urgently need addressing are therefore: What are exoplanets made of? Why are planets as they are? What causes the exceptional diversity observed as compared to the Solar System?
EChO (Exoplanet Characterisation Observatory) has been designed as a dedicated survey mission for transit and eclipse spectroscopy capable of observing a large and diverse planet sample within its four-year mission lifetime. EChO can target the atmospheres of super-Earths, Neptune-like, and Jupiter-like planets, in the very hot to temperate zones (planet temperatures of 300K-3000K) of F to M-type host stars. Over the next ten years, several new ground- and space-based transit surveys will come on-line (e.g. NGTS, CHEOPS, TESS, PLATO), which will specifically focus on finding bright, nearby systems. The current rapid rate of discovery would allow the target list to be further optimised in the years prior to EChO's launch and enable the atmospheric characterisation of hundreds of planets. Placing the satellite at L2 provides a cold and stable thermal environment, as well as a large field of regard to allow efficient time-critical observation of targets randomly distributed over the sky. A 1m class telescope is sufficiently large to achieve the necessary spectro-photometric precision. The spectral coverage (0.5-11 micron, goal 16 micron) and SNR to be achieved by EChO, thanks to its high stability and dedicated design, would enable a very accurate measurement of the atmospheric composition and structure of hundreds of exoplanets.

Magnetic materials for specific applications require an accurate control and complete comprehension of their magnetic properties. In particular, nanoparticles embedded in a polycrystalline matrix emerge as good candidates for applications due to the possibility of tuning the magnetic properties through interface interaction effects. Here, iron/wüstite composite is prepared using high energy mechanical milling from iron powder and water. The sample is analyzed by X-ray diffraction, dynamic laser light scattering, Mössbauer spectroscopy, field cooling and zero field cooling curves, magnetization curves, and magnetic hyperthermia. Based on the results, we identify that the produced sample is like Fe nanoparticles embedded in a wüstite matrix, with high stability in time, and shows noticeable features such as exchange bias effect at low temperatures and promising temperatures reached in a short time interval when considered magnetic hyperthermia, $\sim 46\,^\circ$C, becoming an interesting candidate for biological applications, such as the one employed for cancer therapy.

Thus, it should be taken into account for the proper interpretation of EUV/soft-X-ray observations of the thermal radiation from neutron stars.
