Hypergeometric viable models in $f(R)$ gravity
Abstract: A cosmologically viable hypergeometric model in the modified gravity theory $f(R)$ is found from the need for asintoticity towards $Λ$CDM, the existence of an inflection point in the $f(R)$ curve, and the conditions of viability given by the phase space curves $(m, r)$, where $m$ and $r$ are characteristic functions of the model. To analyze the constraints associated with the viability requirement… ▽ More

Benchmarking TinyML Systems: Challenges and Direction
Abstract: Recent advancements in ultra-low-power machine learning (TinyML) hardware promises to unlock an entirely new class of smart applications. However, continued progress is limited by the lack of a widely accepted benchmark for these systems. Benchmarking allows us to measure and thereby systematically compare, evaluate, and improve the performance of systems and is therefore fundamental to a field re… ▽ More

Spherically symmetric and static solutions in $f(R)$ gravity coupled with EM fields
Abstract: Solutions of field equations in $f(R)$ gravity are found for a spherically symmetric and static spacetime in the Born-Infeld (BI) non-linear electrodynamics. It is found that the models supported in this configuration must have the parametric form $f'(R)|_{r}=m+n r$, with $m,n$ constants, whose value and sign have a strong impact on the solutions, as well as in the form and range of $f(R)$. When… ▽ More

Scalar-field potential for viable models in $f(R)$ theory
Abstract: The $f(R)$ theory of gravity can be expressed as a scalar tensor theory with a scalar degree of freedom $φ$. By a conformal transformation, the action and its Gibbons-York-Hawking boundary term are written in the Einstein frame and the field equations are found. An effective potential is defined from part of the trace of the field equations in such a way that it can be calculated as an integral of… ▽ More

Learning neutrino effects in Cosmology with Convolutional Neural Networks
Abstract: Measuring the sum of the three active neutrino masses, $M_ν$, is one of the most important challenges in modern cosmology. Massive neutrinos imprint characteristic signatures on several cosmological observables in particular on the large-scale structure of the Universe. In order to maximize the information that can be retrieved from galaxy surveys, accurate theoretical predictions in the non-linea… ▽ More

Interplay between musical practices and tuning in the marimba de chonta music
Abstract: In the Pacific Coast of Colombia there is a type of marimba called marimba de chonta, which provides the melodic and harmonic contour for traditional music with characteristic chants and dances. The tunings of this marimba are based on the voice of female singers and allows musical practices, as a transposition that preserves relative distances between bars. Here we show that traditional tunings a… ▽ More

Brownian Thermal Noise in Functional Optical Surfaces
Abstract: We present a formalism to compute Brownian thermal noise in functional optical surfaces such as grating reflectors, photonic crystal slabs or complex metamaterials. Such computations are based on a specific readout variable, typically a surface integral of a dielectric interface displacement weighed by a form factor. This paper shows how to relate this form factor to Maxwell's stress tensor comput… ▽ More

Tonal consonance parameters link microscopic and macroscopic properties of music exposing a hidden order in melody
Abstract: Consonance is related to the perception of pleasantness arising from a combination of sounds and has been approached quantitatively using mathematical relations, physics, information theory, and psychoacoustics. Tonal consonance is present in timbre, musical tuning, harmony, and melody, and it is used for conveying sensations, perceptions, and emotions in music. It involves the physical properties… ▽ More

Several Multiplexes in the same City: The role of wealth differences in urban mobility
Abstract: In this work we analyze the architecture of real urban mobility networks from the multiplex perspective. In particular, based on empirical data about the mobility patterns in the cities of Bogotá and Medellín, each city is represented by six multiplex networks, each one representing the origin-destination trips performed by a subset of the population corresponding to a particular socioeconomic sta… ▽ More

Gravitational Lensing by Spherical Lenses
Abstract: In this work we introduced a new proposal to study the gravitational lensing theory by spherical lenses, starting from its surface mass density $Σ(x)$ written in terms of a decreasing function $f$ of a dimensionless coordinate $x$ on the lens plane. The main result is the use of the function $f(x)$ to find directly the lens properties, at the same time that the lens problem is described by a first… ▽ More

Is the Pentaquark the Only Justification for Research on KN Physics ?
Abstract: The talk is intended to motivate the use of DA$Φ$NE--2 running at the $φ$ peak as an intense, clean source of low--momentum charged and neutral kaons. It covers a few open problems still unsolved after more than twenty--five years and the physics (some of it still novel) that could be learned only in this way. And, of course, the answer to the above question is {\sl NO}.

Higgs boson decay in the large N limit
Abstract: The Equivalence Theorem is commonly used to calculate perturbatively amplitudes involving gauge bosons at energy scales higher than gauge boson masses. However, when the scalar sector is strongly interacting the theory is non-perturbative. We show that the Equivalence Theorem holds in the large N limit at next-to-leading order by calculating the decay widths h -> W^{+}W^{-} and h->π^{+}π^{-}. We… ▽ More

Can large fermion chemical potentials suppress the electroweak phase transition ?
Abstract: We calculate the critical temperature $(T_c$) of the electroweak phase transition in the minimal standard model considering simultaneously temperature ($T$) and fermion chemical potential ($μ_f$) effects over the effective potential. The calculation is performed in the one-loop approximation to the effective potential at non-zero temperature using the real time formalism of the thermal field the… ▽ More

Dispersion relations at finite temperature and density for nucleons and pions
Abstract: We calculate the nucleonic and pionic dispersion relations at finite temperature T and non-vanishing chemical potentials $(μ_f)$ in the context of an effective chiral theory that describes the strong and electromagnetic interactions for nucleons and pions. The dispersion relations are calculated in the broken chiral symmetry phase, where the nucleons are massive and pions are taken as massless.… ▽ More

Dispersion relations in Kbar N - pi Y coupled channel analyses
Abstract: Rapidly convergent, unsubtracted dispersion relations have been used to test coupled channel analyses of low-energy S = -1 meson-baryon pi Y --> pi Y' channels. We conclude that the low-energy S = -1 meson-baryon sector is less well known than currently believed, and that it deserves more accurate experiments and analyses.

Abstract: We present results from a dispersion--relation investigation on a coupled--channel analysis of $\bar{K}N$--initiated processes in the low-- and intermediate--energy region. The analysis demonstrates both the effectiveness of these relations to constrain the parameters of the unmeasurable $πY$ channels and the need for better data in the low--energy region, such as could be provided at a $φ$--fac… ▽ More
