Group invariants for Feynman diagrams
Abstract: It is well-known that the symmetry group of a Feynman diagram can give important information on possible strategies for its evaluation, and the mathematical objects that will be involved. Motivated by ongoing work on multi-loop multi-photon amplitudes in quantum electrodynamics, here I will discuss the usefulness of introducing a polynomial basis of invariants of the symmetry group of a diagram in… ▽ More

New asymptotic techniques for the partial wave cut-off method for calculating the QED one loop effective action
Abstract: The Gel'fand-Yaglom theorem has been used to calculate the one-loop effective action in quantum field theory by means of the "partial-wave-cutoff method". This method works well for a wide class of background fields and is essentially exact. However, its implementation has been semi-analytical so far since it involves solving a non-linear ordinary differential equation for which solutions are in g… ▽ More

Non-perturbative Quantum Propagators in Bounded Spaces
Abstract: We outline a new approach to calculating the quantum mechanical propagator in the presence of geometrically non-trivial Dirichlet boundary conditions based upon a generalisation of an integral transform of the propagator studied in previous work (the so-called ``hit function''), and a convergent sequence of Padé approximants. In this paper the generalised hit function is defined as a many-point pr… ▽ More

Multiloop QED in the Euler-Heisenberg approach
Abstract: I summarize what is known about the Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian and its multiloop corrections for scalar and spinor QED, in various types of constant fields, and in various dimensions. Particular attention is given to the asymptotic properties of the weak-field expansion of the Lagrangian, which via Borel summation is related to Schwinger pair-creation, and the status of the "exponentiation conjec… ▽ More

Dihedral Invariant Polynomials in the effective Lagrangian of QED
Abstract: We present a new group-theoretical technique to calculate weak field expansions for some Feynman diagrams using invariant polynomials of the dihedral group. In particular we show results obtained for the first coefficients of the three loop effective lagrangian of 1+1 QED in an external constant field, where the dihedral symmetry appears. Our results suggest that a closed form involving rational n… ▽ More

Worldline formalism for a confined scalar field
Abstract: The worldline formalism is a useful scheme in quantum field theory which has also become a powerful tool for numerical computations. The key ingredient in this formalism is the first quantization of an auxiliary point-particle whose transition amplitudes correspond to the heat-kernel of the operator of quantum fluctuations of the field theory. However, to study a quantum field which is confined wi… ▽ More

Three-loop Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian in 1+1 QED, part 1: single fermion-loop part
Abstract: We study the three-loop Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian in spinor quantum electrodynamics in 1+1 dimensions. In this first part we calculate the one-fermion-loop contribution, applying both standard Feynman diagrams and the worldline formalism which leads to two different representations in terms of fourfold Schwinger-parameter integrals. Unlike the diagram calculation, the worldline approach allows o… ▽ More

Multiloop Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangians, Schwinger pair creation, and the QED N - photon amplitudes
Abstract: An update is given on our long-term effort to perform a three-loop check on the Affleck-Alvarez-Manton/Lebedev-Ritus exponentiation conjecture for the imaginary part of the Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian, using 1+1 dimensional QED as a toy model. After reviewing the history and significance of the conjecture, we present trigonometric integral representations for the single electron loop contributions… ▽ More

Asymptotic behavior of the QED perturbation series
Abstract: In this talk, I will summarize the present state of a long-term effort to obtain information on the high-order asymptotic behaviour of the QED perturbation series through the effective action. Starting with the constant-field case, I will discuss the Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian in various dimensions, and up to the three-loop level. Worldline Numerics for Energy-Momentum Tensors in Casimir Geometries
Abstract: We develop the worldline formalism for computations of composite operators such as the fluctuation induced energy-momentum tensor. As an example, we use a fluctuating real scalar field subject to Dirichlet boundary conditions. The resulting worldline representation can be evaluated by worldline Monte-Carlo methods in continuous spacetime. We benchmark this worldline numerical algorithm with the ai… ▽ More

A projective Dirac operator on $\mathbb{C}P^n$ and extended SUSY
Abstract: We construct a universal spin$_c$ Dirac operator on $\mathbb{C}P^n$ built by projecting $su(n+1)$ left actions and prove its equivalence to the standard right action Dirac operator on $\mathbb{C}P^n$. The eigenvalue problem is solved and the spinor space constructed thereof, showing that the proposed Dirac operator is universal, changing only its domain for different spin$_c$ structures. Scalar and Spinor Field Actions on Fuzzy $S^4$: fuzzy $CP^3$ as a $S^2_F$ bundle over $S^4_F$
Abstract: We present a manifestly Spin(5) invariant construction of squashed fuzzy $CP^3$ as a fuzzy $S^2$ bundle over fuzzy $S^4$. We develop the necessary projectors and exhibit the squashing in terms of the radii of the $S^2$ and $S^4$. Our analysis allows us give both scalar and spinor fuzzy action functionals whose low lying modes are truncated versions of those of a commutative $S^4$.

Polarization Tensors for the fuzzy Grassmannians $Gr_{2;n}^F$ and Grassmannian harmonics on $Gr_{2;n}$
Abstract: We explicitly construct the eigenfunctions of the Laplacian for the fuzzy Grassmannian spaces $Gr_{2;n}^F$. We calculate the spectrum and find it be a truncation of the continuum case. As a byproduct of our approach we find a novel expression for the Grassmannian harmonics in terms of Plucker coordinates which can be interpreted as free Schrodinger particle wave functions on $Gr_{2;n}$.

A projective Dirac operator on CP^2 within fuzzy geometry
Abstract: We propose an ansatz for the commutative canonical spin_c Dirac operator on CP^2 in a global geometric approach using the right invariant (left action-) induced vector fields from SU(3). This ansatz is suitable for noncommutative generalisation within the framework of fuzzy geometry. Along the way we identify the physical spinors and construct the canonical spin_c bundle in this formulation. The c… ▽ More

Three-loop Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian and asymptotic analysis in 1+1 QED
Abstract: In recent years, the Euler-Heisenberg Lagrangian has been shown to be a useful tool for the analysis of the asymptotic growth of the N-photon amplitudes at large N. A universal Dirac operator and noncommutative spin bundles over fuzzy complex projective spaces
Abstract: We present a universal Dirac operator for noncommutative spin and spin^c bundles over fuzzy complex projective spaces. We give an explicit construction of these bundles, which are described in terms of finite dimensional matrices, calculate the spectrum and explicitly exhibit the Dirac eigenspinors. To our knowledge the spin^c spectrum for CP^n with n>=3 is new.
