Let $(\mathcal{A,B})$ be a GP-admissible pair and $(\mathcal{Z,W})$ be a GI-admissible pair of classes of objects in an abelian category $\mathcal{C}$, and consider the class $π\mathcal{GP}_{(ω,\mathcal{B},1)}$ of $1$-periodic $(ω,\mathcal{B})$-Gorenstein projective objects, where $ω:= \mathcal{A} \cap \mathcal{B}$ and $ν:= \mathcal{Z} \cap \mathcal{W}$. We claimed in \cite[Lem. 8.1]{HMP2023m} that the $(\mathcal{Z,W})$-Gorenstein injective dimension of $π\mathcal{GP}_{(ω,\mathcal{B},1)}$ is bounded by the $(\mathcal{Z,W})$-Gorenstein injective dimension of $ω$, provided that: (1) $ω$ is closed under direct summands, (2) $\mathrm{Ext}^1(π\mathcal{GP}_{(ω,\mathcal{B},1)},ν) = 0$, and (3) every object in $π\mathcal{GP}_{(ω,\mathcal{B},1)}$ admits a $\mathrm{Hom}(-,ν)$-acyclic $ν$-coresolution. These conditions are their duals are part of what we called ``Setup 1''. Moreover, if we replace $π\mathcal{GP}_{(ω,\mathcal{B},1)}$ by the class $\mathcal{GP}_{(\mathcal{A,B})}$ of $(\mathcal{A,B})$-Gorenstein projective objects, the resulting inequality is claimed to be true under a set of conditions named ``Setup 2''.
The proof we gave for the claims $\mathrm{Gid}_{(\mathcal{Z,W})}(π\mathcal{GP}_{(ω,\mathcal{B},1)}) \leq \mathrm{Gid}_{(\mathcal{Z,W})}(ω)$ and $\mathrm{Gid}_{(\mathcal{Z,W})}(\mathcal{GP}_{(\mathcal{A,B})}) \leq \mathrm{Gid}_{(\mathcal{Z,W})}(ω)$ is incorrect, and the purpose of this note is to exhibit a corrected proof of the first inequality, under the additional assumption that every object in $π\mathcal{GP}_{(ω,\mathcal{B},1)}$ has finite injective dimension relative to $\mathcal{Z}$. Setup 2 is no longer required, and as a result the second inequality was removed. We also fix those results in §\ 8 of \cite{HMP2023m} affected by Lemma 8.1, and comment some applications and examples.

In this work we study how to extend the concept of \emph{"reduction,"} given for rigid and functorially finite subcategories in an extriangulated category $\mathcal{C}$, to $(n+2)$-rigid ones. We define the reduction of such subcategories as the intersection of orthogonal complements when certain orthogonal condition is satisfied and we prove that this reduction depends mainly on the subcategory itself beyond the type of extriangulated category for which belongs to. Specifically, we show that some results proven for Frobenius extriangulated categories can be carried to extriangulated categories in general. We also study its properties among we can mention: weakly idempotent completeness, existence of enough $\mathbb{E}$-projectives and $\mathbb{E}$-injectives, and conditions to be Frobenius. That generalization covers the usual case and for the general case (for $n\geq 0$), we provide several examples. Finally, we extend a well-known result given for the reduction in stably $2$-Calabi Yau Frobenius extriangulated categories related with $2$-cluster tilting subcategories.

These well-separated binaries are the last stars of our sample that we observed with the TIGRE telescope obtaining intermediate-resolution spectra of R = 20,000. We applied the same method as described in our previous publication of this series. For the analysis of the radial velocity curves, we used the toolkit RadVel, which allowed us to determine all orbital parameters. Recently published orbital solutions of some systems from Gaia DR3 agree with our results. However, our solutions have much smaller uncertainties. We determined the basic stellar parameters of the primary stars with our automatic script using iSpec. The parameter determination allowed us to place all nine stars in the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram. We found that all stars have already evolved to the giant phase. A comparison with stellar evolution tracks of the Eggleton code was applied to determine the stellar masses and ages. As a result of our analysis, we were able to estimate the masses of the secondary stars and the orbital inclinations of the binary systems.

We also prove (under mild conditions) that each one is equivalent to a suitable subcategory of the category of functors of the stable category of $\mathcal{X}_{n}^{\vee}$ and the co-stable category of $\mathcal{X}_{n}^{\wedge}$, respectively. Moreover, it can be induced an exact structure through these equivalences and we analyze when such quotients are weakly idempotent complete, Krull-Schmidt or abelian. The above discussion is also considered in the particular case of an $(n+2)$-cluster tilting subcategory of $\mathcal{C}$ since in this case we know that $\mathcal{X}_{n+1}^{\vee}=\mathcal{C}=\mathcal{X}_{n+1}^{\wedge}.$ Finally, by considering the category of conflations of a exact category, we show that it is possible to get an abelian category from these quotients.

In this article, we extend our study on a new class of modular Hamiltonians on an interval attached to the origin on the semi-infinite line, introduced in a recent work dedicated to scalar fields. Here, we shift our attention to fermions and similarly to the scalar case, we investigate the modular Hamiltonians of theories which are obtained through dimensional reduction, this time, of a free massless Dirac field in $d$ dimensions. By following the same methodology, we perform dimensional reduction on both the physical and modular Hamiltonians. This process enables us to establish a correspondence: we identify the modular Hamiltonian in an interval connected to the origin to the one obtained from the reduction of the modular Hamiltonian pertaining to the conformal parent theory on a sphere. Intriguingly, although the resulting one-dimensional theories lack conformal symmetry due to the presence of a term proportional to $1/r$, the corresponding modular Hamiltonians are local functions in the energy density. This phenomenon mirrors the well known behaviour observed in the conformal case and indicates the existence of a residual symmetry, characterized by a subset of the original conformal group.
Furthermore, through an analysis of the spectrum of the modular Hamiltonians, we derive an analytic expression for the associated entanglement entropy. Our findings also enable us to successfully recover the conformal anomaly coefficient from the universal piece of the entropy in even dimensions, as well as the universal constant $F$ term in $d=3$, by extending the radial regularization scheme originally introduced by Srednicki to perform the sum over angular modes.

We focus our attention on the one dimensional scalar theories that result from dimensionally reducing the free scalar field theory in arbitrary d dimensions. As is well known, after integrating out the angular coordinates, the free scalar theory can be expressed as an infinite sum of theories living in the semi-infinite line, labeled by the angular modes $\{l, \vec{m}\}$. We show that their modular Hamiltonian in an interval attached to the origin is, in turn, the one obtained from the dimensional reduction of the modular Hamiltonian of the conformal parent theory in a sphere. Remarkably, this is a local expression in the energy density, as happens in the conformal case, although the resulting one dimensional theories are clearly not conformal. We support this result by analyzing the symmetries of these theories, which turn out to be a portion of the original conformal group, and proving that the reduced modular Hamiltonian is in fact the operator generating the modular flow in the interval. By studying the spectrum of these modular Hamiltonians, we also provide an analytic expression for the associated entanglement entropy. Finally, extending the radial regularization scheme originally introduced by Srednicki, we sum over the angular modes to successfully recover the conformal anomaly in the entropy logarithmic coefficient in even dimensions, as well as the universal constant $F$ term in $d = 3$.

The role of symmetries in what concerns entanglement entropy has been extensively explored in the last years and revealed a profound connection with the quantum field theory's algebraic structure. Recently, it was found that some universal contributions to the entanglement entropy and mutual information may be non uniquely defined in theories with generalized symmetries. Here, we study this issue in detail in the particular case of the entanglement entropy of the Maxwell theory in $(2+1)$ dimensions for rotationally symmetric regions. In this setup, the problem can be dimensionally reduced to a half-line. We find that the only difference between the reduced problem for the Maxwell field and the reduced scalar free field stems from the Fourier angular $n=0$ mode. This simplification allows us to check explicitly the many issues that characterize models with broken global symmetries. Namely, we manifestly show that the additive algebras break Haag duality, and single out the non-local operators which are responsible for the failure of this property. More interestingly, we present concrete lattice realizations that confirm that the logarithmic "universal" term of the Maxwell entanglement entropy for disks depends on the details of the algebra assignation. This ambiguity hinders the identification of possible topological contributions characteristic of models with generalized symmetries and tarnishes its universal character. We further calculate the Maxwell mutual information for two nearly complementary concentric disks. We obtain the expected universal contribution with a log-log dependence and check that, unlike entropy, this is stable. Accordingly, this supports mutual information as the appropriate probe to sense additivity-duality breaking and the consequent universal topological contributions.

We present a spectroscopic characterisation and a new orbital solution for the binary system beta Cyg Aa/Ac (MCA 55), the primary component (beta Cyg A) of the well-known wide double star Albireo. By matching evolutionary tracks to the physical parameters of all three Albireo stars (beta Cyg Aa, Ac and B) as obtained from a spectroscopic analysis of TIGRE and IUE spectra, we confirm that they are likely coeval. Our final orbit solution is based on radial-velocity measurements taken over a baseline exceeding $120$ years, combined with relative astrometry from speckle interferometric observations and the absolute astrometry from the Hipparcos and Gaia missions. Our final orbit solution has a period of $121.65^{+3.34}_{-2.90}$ years with an eccentricity of $0.20^{+0.01}_{-0.02}$. Thanks to the inclusion of the absolute astrometry, we find a mass ratio of $q = 1.25^{+0.19}_{-0.17}$, and a total mass of $9.47_{-3.24}^{+5.88}$ M$_\odot$, indicating that the secondary (Ac) is the more massive of the pair. These results strongly suggest the presence of a fourth, unseen, member of the Albireo system. Given the current photometric data it is likely that beta Cyg A is itself a hierarchical triple. We also derive the systemic proper motion, line-of-sight velocity, and an orbital parallax of the beta Cyg A system, allowing us to quantitatively assess the hypothesis that Albireo A and B form a physically bound and genealogically connected system. Finally, we find four potential members of a common proper motion group with Albireo, though none anywhere as close by as the Albireo components A to B.

We propose entropic order parameters that capture the physics of generalized symmetries and phases in QFT's. We do it through an analysis of simple properties (additivity and Haag duality) of the net of operator algebras attached to space-time regions. We observe that different types of symmetries are associated with the breaking of these properties in regions of different non-trivial topologies. When such topologies are connected, we show that the non locally generated operators generate an Abelian symmetry group, and their commutation relations are fixed. The existence of order parameters with area law, like the Wilson loop for the confinement phase, or the 't Hooft loop for the dual Higgs phase, is shown to imply the existence of more than one possible choice of algebras for the same underlying theory. A natural entropic order parameter arises by this non-uniqueness. We display aspects of the phases of theories with generalized symmetries in terms of these entropic order parameters. In particular, the connection between constant and area laws for dual order and disorder parameters is transparent in this approach, new constraints arising from conformal symmetry are revealed, and the algebraic origin of the Dirac quantization condition (and generalizations thereof) is described. A novel tool in this approach is the entropic certainty relation satisfied by dual relative entropies associated with complementary regions, which quantitatively relates the statistics of order and disorder parameters.

Spatial Atomic Layer Deposition (SALD) is a recent approach that is up to two orders of magnitude faster than conventional ALD, and that can be performed at atmospheric pressure and even in the open air. Previous works have exploited these assets to focus on the possibility of high-rate, large-area deposition for scaling up into mass production. Conversely, here we show that SALD indeed represents an ideal platform for the selective deposition of functional materials by proper design and miniaturization of SALD close-proximity heads. In particular, we have used the potential offered by 3D printing to fabricate custom close-proximity SALD injection heads. By using 3D printing, the heads can be easily designed and readily modified to obtain different deposition areas, free-form patterns, and even complex multimaterial structures. The heads can be printed in different materials to adjust to the chemistry of the precursors and the deposition conditions used. Polymeric heads can be used as cheap (even disposable) heads that are both used for performing deposition and for prototy** and optimization purposes. Finally, by designing a miniaturized head with circular concentric gas channels, 3D printing of functional materials can be performed with nanometric resolution in Z. This constitutes a new 3D printing approach based on gaseous precursors. Because the selective deposition strategies presented here are based on the SALD process, conformal and continuous thin films of functional materials can be printed at low temperatures and with high deposition rate in the open air. Our approach represents a new versatile way of printing functional materials and devices with spatial and topological control, thus extending the potential of SALD and ALD in general, and opening a new avenue in the field of area-selective deposition of functional materials.

We elucidate the mismatch between the $A$-anomaly coefficient and the coefficient of the logarithmic term in the entanglement entropy of a Maxwell field. In contrast to the usual assumptions about the protection of renormalization group charges at the infrared, the logarithmic term is different for a free Maxwell field and a Maxwell field interacting with heavy charges. This is possible because of the presence of superselection sectors in the IR theory. However, the correction due to the coupling with charged vacuum fluctuations, that restores the anomaly coefficient, is independent of the precise UV dynamics. The problem is invariant under electromagnetic duality, and the solution requires both the existence of electric charges and magnetic monopoles. We use a real-time operator approach but we also show how the results for the free and interacting fields are translated into an effective correction to the four-sphere partition function.

Some quantum field theories show, in a fundamental or an effective manner, an alternative between a loss of duality for algebras of operators corresponding to complementary regions, or a loss of additivity. In this latter case, the algebra contains some operator that is not generated locally, in the former, the entropies of complementary regions do not coincide. Typically, these features are related to the incompleteness of the operator content of the theory, or, in other words, to the existence of superselection sectors. We review some aspects of the mathematical literature on superselection sectors aiming attention to the physical picture and focusing on the consequences for entanglement entropy (EE). For purposes of clarity, the whole discussion is divided into two parts according to the superselection sectors classification: The present part I is devoted to superselection sectors arising from global symmetries, and the forthcoming part II will consider those arising from local symmetries. Under this perspective, here restricted to global symmetries, we study in detail different cases such as models with finite and Lie group symmetry as well as with spontaneous symmetry breaking or excited states. We illustrate the general results with simple examples. As an important application, we argue the features of holographic entanglement entropy correspond to a picture of a sub-theory with a large number of superselection sectors and suggest some ways in which this identification could be made more precise.

Motivated by some properties satisfied by Gorenstein projective and Gorenstein injective modules over an Iwanaga-Gorenstein ring, we present the concept of left and right $n$-cotorsion pairs in an abelian category $\mathcal{C}$. Two classes $\mathcal{A}$ and $\mathcal{B}$ of objects of $\mathcal{C}$ form a left $n$-cotorsion pair $(\mathcal{A,B})$ in $\mathcal{C}$ if the orthogonality relation $\mathsf{Ext}^i_{\mathcal{C}}(\mathcal{A,B}) = 0$ is satisfied for indexes $1 \leq i \leq n$, and if every object of $\mathcal{C}$ has a resolution by objects in $\mathcal{A}$ whose syzygies have $\mathcal{B}$-resolution dimension at most $n-1$. This concept and its dual generalise the notion of complete cotorsion pairs, and has an appealing relation with left and right approximations, especially with those having the so called unique map** property.
The main purpose of this paper is to describe several properties of $n$-cotorsion pairs and to establish a relation with complete cotorsion pairs. We also give some applications in relative homological algebra, that will cover the study of approximations associated to Gorenstein projective, Gorenstein injective and Gorenstein flat modules and chain complexes, as well as $m$-cluster tilting subcategories.

We calculate the analytic form of the vacuum modular Hamiltonian for a two interval region and the algebra of a current $j(x)=\partial φ(x)$ corresponding to a chiral free scalar $φ$ in $d=2$. We also compute explicitly the mutual information between the intervals. This model shows a failure of Haag duality for two intervals that translates into a loss of a symmetry property for the mutual information usually associated with modular invariance. Contrary to the case of a free massless fermion, the modular Hamiltonian turns out to be completely non local. The calculation is done diagonalizing the density matrix by computing the eigensystem of a correlator kernel operator. These eigenvectors are obtained by a novel method that involves solving an equivalent problem for an holomorphic function in the complex plane where multiplicative boundary conditions are imposed on the intervals. Using the same technique we also re-derive the free fermion modular Hamiltonian in a more transparent way.

The relative entropy between very high energy localized excitations and the vacuum, where both states are reduced to a spatial region, gives place to a precise definition of a local temperature produced by vacuum entanglement across the boundary. This generalizes the Unruh temperature of the Rindler wedge to arbitrary regions. The local temperatures can be read off from the short distance leading terms in the modular Hamiltonian. For free scalar and fermion fields they have a universal geometric expression that follows by solving a particular eikonal type equation in Euclidean space. This equation generalizes to any dimension the holomorphic property that holds in two dimensions. For regions of arbitrary shapes the local temperatures at a point are direction dependent. We compute their explicit expression for the geometry of a wall or strip.

We show there are analogues to the Unruh temperature that can be defined for any quantum field theory and region of the space. These local temperatures are defined using relative entropy with localized excitations. We show important restrictions arise from relative entropy inequalities and causal propagation between Cauchy surfaces. These suggest a large amount of universality for local temperatures, specially the ones affecting null directions. For regions with any number of intervals in two space-time dimensions the local temperatures might arise from a term in the modular Hamiltonian proportional to the stress tensor. We argue this term might be universal, with a coefficient that is the same for any theory, and check analytically and numerically this is the case for free massive scalar and Dirac fields. In dimensions $d\ge 3$ the local terms in the modular Hamiltonian producing these local temperatures cannot be formed exclusively from the stress tensor. For a free scalar field we classify the structure of the local terms.

We compute the logarithmic coefficient of the entanglement entropy on a sphere for a Maxwell field in $d=4$ dimensions. In spherical coordinates the problem decomposes into one dimensional ones along the radial coordinate for each angular momentum. We show the entanglement entropy of a Maxwell field is equivalent to the one of two identical massless scalars from which the mode of $l=0$ has been removed. This shows the relation $c^M_{\log}=2 (c^S_{\log}-c^{S_{l=0}}_{\log})$ between the logarithmic coefficient in the entropy for a Maxwell field $c^M_{\log}$, the one for a $d=4$ massless scalar $c_{\log}^S$, and the logarithmic coefficient $c^{S_{l=0}}_{\log}$ for a $d=2$ scalar with Dirichlet boundary condition at the origin. Using the accepted values for these coefficients $c_{\log}^S=-1/90$ and $c^{S_{l=0}}_{\log}=1/6$ we get $c^M_{\log}=-16/45$, which coincides with Dowker's calculation, but does not match the coefficient $-\frac{31}{45}$ in the trace anomaly for a Maxwell field. We have numerically evaluated these three numbers $c^M_{\log}$, $c^S_{\log}$ and $c^{S_{l=0}}_{\log}$, verifying the relation, as well as checked they coincide with the corresponding logarithmic term in mutual information of two concentric spheres.

Leveraging Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) has been widely acknowledged as a valuable approach to software and system design that have promoted the acceleration of products and services development by allowing the decoupling of interface design from service implementation details. Many organizations in the news and journalism industry have adopted and promoted this API oriented approach. In the first part of this paper, we provide a survey of the most significant recent work around traditional news and journalistic open APIs and how these have been influenced by and impacted the news product landscape. In the second part of the paper, we identify two disruptive technology trends that we believe will impact the role and value of news/journalism products in the future: API-first development methodologies, and the increased role of news-supported automatic knowledge extraction and analytic services. We anticipate that these two driving forces will create a new wave of adoption, open collaboration, standardization and overall progress in news content adoption in knowledge platforms. A coefficient in the mutual information between concentric circular entangling surfaces gives a precise universal prescription for the monotonous quantity in the c-theorem for d=3. We re-analyzed the 9 observations performed on 2006 by XMM-Newton and Chandra in the 0.3 to 10 keV energy band of NGC 3516 (Seyfert 1.5). The best fit model of these observations consists of a continuum emission absorbed by four ionized components and ten narrow emission lines. Three ionized absorbing components produce features in the soft X-ray band. The fourth ionization component produces FeXXV-XXVI in the hard- energy band. We study the absorbers time response to well detect changes in the X-ray luminosity of this source, only two components show clear opacity changes consistent with gas close to photoionization equilibrium. The other two components do not seem to respond to continuum variations. This response time allows us to constrain their location. One outflowing component must be located within the obscuring torus, at a distance 2.7X10^17 cm from the central engine, likely originated in the accretion disk. The three remaining outflowing components are at distances larger than 10^{16-17} cm. Two of them have similar outflow velocities and locations, these may be in pressure equilibrium, forming a multi-phase medium, if the gas has metallicity larger than the solar one (5 times). We find no correlation between the change in covering factor of the absorbers and the flux of the source. This, in connection with the observed variability of the ionized absorbers, suggests that the changes in flux are not produced by this material. If the variations are indeed produced by obscuring clumps of gas, these must be located much closer in to the central source.

We study entanglement entropy (EE) for a Maxwell field in 2+1 dimensions. We do numerical calculations in two dimensional lattices. This gives a concrete example of the general results of our recent work on entropy for lattice gauge fields using an algebraic approach. To evaluate the entropies we extend the standard calculation methods for the entropy of Gaussian states in canonical commutation algebras to the more general case of algebras with center and arbitrary numerical commutators. We find that while the entropy depends on the details of the algebra choice, mutual information has a well defined continuum limit. We study several universal terms for the entropy of the Maxwell field and compare with the case of a massless scalar field. We find some interesting new phenomena: An "evanescent" logarithmically divergent term in the entropy with topological coefficient which does not have any correspondence with ultraviolet entanglement in the universal quantities, and a non standard way in which strong subadditivity is realized. Based on the results of our calculations we propose a generalization of strong subadditivity for the entropy on some algebras that are not in tensor product.

In gauge theories the presence of constraints can obstruct expressing the global Hilbert space as a tensor product of the Hilbert spaces corresponding to degrees of freedom localized in complementary regions. In algebraic terms, this is due to the presence of a center --- a set of operators which commute with all others --- in the gauge invariant operator algebra corresponding to finite region. A unique entropy can be assigned to algebras with center, giving place to a local entropy in lattice gauge theories. However, ambiguities arise on the correspondence between algebras and regions. In particular, it is always possible to choose (in many different ways) local algebras with trivial center, and hence a genuine entanglement entropy, for any region. These choices are in correspondence with maximal trees of links on the boundary, which can be interpreted as partial gauge fixings. This interpretation entails a gauge fixing dependence of the entanglement entropy. In the continuum limit however, ambiguities in the entropy are given by terms local on the boundary of the region, in such a way relative entropy and mutual information are finite, universal, and gauge independent quantities.

The path integral representation for the Renyi entanglement entropies of integer index n implies these information measures define operator correlation functions in QFT. We analyze whether the limit $n\rightarrow 1$, corresponding to the entanglement entropy, can also be represented in terms of a path integral with insertions on the region's boundary, at first order in $n-1$. This conjecture has been used in the literature in several occasions, and specially in an attempt to prove the Ryu-Takayanagi holographic entanglement entropy formula. We show it leads to conditional positivity of the entropy correlation matrices, which is equivalent to an infinite series of polynomial inequalities for the entropies in QFT or the areas of minimal surfaces representing the entanglement entropy in the AdS-CFT context. We check these inequalities in several examples. No counterexample is found in the few known exact results for the entanglement entropy in QFT. The inequalities are also remarkable satisfied for several classes of minimal surfaces but we find counterexamples corresponding to more complicated geometries. We develop some analytic tools to test the inequalities, and as a byproduct, we show that positivity for the correlation functions is a local property when supplemented with analyticity. We also review general aspects of positivity for large N theories and Wilson loops in AdS-CFT.

We show, using strong subadditivity and Lorentz covariance, that in three dimensional space-time the entanglement entropy of a circle is a concave function. This implies the decrease of the coefficient of the area term and the increase of the constant term in the entropy between the ultraviolet and infrared fixed points. This is in accordance with recent holographic c-theorems and with conjectures about the renormalization group flow of the partition function of a three sphere (F-theorem). The irreversibility of the renormalization group flow in three dimensions would follow from the argument provided there is an intrinsic definition for the constant term in the entropy at fixed points. We discuss the difficulties in generalizing this result for spheres in higher dimensions.

We calculate explicitly its spectral decomposition. The imaginary powers of the density matrix is a unitary operator implementing an internal time flow (the modular flow). We show that in the case of more than one interval this evolution is non-local, producing both, advance in the causal structure and "teleportation" between the disjoint intervals. However, it only mixes the fields on a finite number of trajectories, one for each interval. As an application of these results we compute the entanglement entropy for the massive multi-interval case in the small mass limit.

Two young stars demonstrate that this test is not sufficient to rule out starspots as a cause of radial velocity variations. As part of our survey for substellar companions to T Tauri stars, we identified the ~2 Myr old planet host candidates DN Tau and V836 Tau. In both cases, visible light radial velocity modulation appears periodic and is uncorrelated with line bisector span variations, suggesting close companions of several M_Jup in these systems. However, high-resolution, infrared spectroscopy shows that starspots cause the radial velocity variations. We also report unambiguous results for V827 Tau, identified as a spotted star on the basis of both visible light and infrared spectroscopy. Our results suggest that infrared follow up observations are critical for determining the source of radial velocity modulation in young, spotted stars.

Our search is motivated by an interest in detecting massive young planets, as well as investigating the origin of the brown dwarf desert. As part of this survey, we discovered large-amplitude, periodic, radial velocity variations in the spectrum of the weak line T Tauri star LkCa 19. Using line bisector analysis and a new simulation of the effect of star spots on the photometric and radial velocity variability of T Tauri stars, we show that our measured radial velocities for LkCa19 are fully consistent with variations caused by the presence of large star spots on this rapidly rotating young star. These results illustrate the level of activity-induced radial velocity noise associated with at least some very young stars. This activity-induced noise will set lower limits on the mass of a companion detectable around LkCa 19, and similarly active young stars.

The trace of integer powers of the local density matrix corresponding to the vacuum state reduced to a region V can be formally expressed in terms of a functional integral on a manifold with conical singularities. Recently, some progress has been made in explicitly evaluating this type of integrals for free fields. However, finding the associated geometric entropy remained in general a difficult task involving an analytic continuation in the conical angle. In this paper, we obtain this analytic continuation explicitly exploiting a relation between the functional integral formulas and the Chung-Peschel expressions for the density matrix in terms of correlators. The result is that the entropy is given in terms of a functional integral in flat Euclidean space with a cut on V where a specific boundary condition is imposed. As an example we get the exact entanglement entropies for massive scalar and Dirac free fields in 1+1 dimensions in terms of the solutions of a non linear differential equation of the Painleve V type.

We present a review of precursor observing programs for the SIM PlanetQuest Key project devoted to detecting Jupiter mass planets around young stars. In order to ensure that the stars in the sample are free of various sources of astrometric noise that might impede the detection of planets, we have initiated programs to collect photometry, high contrast images, interferometric data and radial velocities for stars in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres. We have completed a high contrast imaging survey of target stars in Taurus and the Pleiades and found no definitive common proper motion companions within one arcsecond (140 AU) of the SIM targets. Our radial velocity surveys have shown that many of the target stars in Sco-Cen are fast rotators and a few stars in Taurus and the Pleiades may have sub-stellar companions. Interferometric data of a few stars in Taurus show no signs of stellar or sub-stellar companions with separations of <5 mas. The photometric survey suggests that approximately half of the stars initially selected for this program are variable to a degree (1 sigma>0.1 mag) that would degrade the astrometric accuracy achievable for that star. While the precursor programs are still a work in progress, we provide a comprehensive list of all targets ranked according to their viability as a result of the observations taken to date. By far, the observable that moves the most targets from the SIM-YSO program is photometric variability.

We show that the entanglement entropy and alpha entropies corresponding to spatial polygonal sets in $(2+1)$ dimensions contain a term which scales logarithmically with the cutoff. Its coefficient is a universal quantity consisting in a sum of contributions from the individual vertices. For a free scalar field this contribution is given by the trace anomaly in a three dimensional space with conical singularities located on the boundary of a plane angular sector. We find its analytic expression as a function of the angle. This is given in terms of the solution of a set of non linear ordinary differential equations. For general free fields, we also find the small-angle limit of the logarithmic coefficient, which is related to the two dimensional entropic c-functions. The calculation involves a reduction to a two dimensional problem, and as a byproduct, we obtain the trace of the Green function for a massive scalar field in a sphere where boundary conditions are specified on a segment of a great circle. This also gives the exact expression for the entropies for a scalar field in a two dimensional de Sitter space.

We find the analytic expression of the trace of powers of the reduced density matrix on an interval of length L, for a massive boson field in 1+1 dimensions. This is given exactly (except for a non universal factor) in terms of a finite sum of solutions of non linear differential equations of the Painlevé V type. Our method is a generalization of one introduced by Myers and is based on the explicit calculation of quantities related to the Green function on a plane, where boundary conditions are imposed on a finite cut. It is shown that the associated partition function is related to correlators of exponential operators in the Sine-Gordon model in agreement with a result by Delfino et al. We also compute the short and long distance leading terms of the entanglement entropy. We find that the bosonic entropic c-function interpolates between the Dirac and Majorana fermion ones given in a previous paper. Finally, we study some universal terms for the entanglement entropy in arbitrary dimensions which, in the case of free fields, can be expressed in terms of the two dimensional entropy functions.

We first find the trace of powers of the density matrix in a novel fashion, which involves the correlators of suitable operators in the sine-Gordon model. These, in turn, can be written exactly in terms of the solutions of non-linear differential equations of the Painlevé V type. Equipped with the previous results, we find the leading terms for the entanglement entropy, both for short and long distances, and showing that in the intermediate regime it can be expanded in a series of multiple integrals. The previous results have been checked by direct numerical calculations on the lattice, finding perfect agreement. Finally, we comment on a possible generalization of the entanglement entropy c-theorem to the alpha-entropies.

As expected, photospheric lines such as Li I 6707 clearly split into two components as the primary and secondary orbit one another, as did the permitted line He I 5876. Unlike the photospheric features, the forbidden lines of [O I] 6300 and [O I] 5577, retain the same shape throughout the orbit. Therefore these lines must originate outside of the immediate vicinity of the two stars and any circumstellar disks that participate in the orbital motion of the stars.

The trace over the degrees of freedom located in a subset of the space transforms the vacuum state into a mixed density matrix with non zero entropy. This is usually called entanglement entropy, and it is known to be divergent in quantum field theory (QFT). However, it is possible to define a finite quantity F(A,B) for two given different subsets A and B which measures the degree of entanglement between their respective degrees of freedom. We show that the function F(A,B) is severely constrained by the Poincare symmetry and the mathematical properties of the entropy. In particular, for one component sets in two dimensional conformal field theories its general form is completely determined. Moreover, it allows to prove an alternative entropic version of the c-theorem for 1+1 dimensional QFT. We propose this well defined quantity as the meaningfull entanglement entropy and comment on possible applications in QFT and the black hole evaporation problem.
