Abstract:
This paper presents exact Semi-Definite Program (SDP) reformulations for infinite-dimensional moment optimization problems involving a new class of piecewise Sum-of-Squares (SOS)-convex functions and projected spectrahedral support sets. These reformulations show that solving a single SDP finds the optimal value and an optimal probability measure of the original moment problem. This is done by est…

This is done by establishing an SOS representation for the non-negativity of a piecewise SOS-convex function over a projected spectrahedron. Finally, as an application and a proof-of-concept illustration, the paper presents numerical results for the Newsvendor and revenue maximization problems with higher-order moments by solving their equivalent SDP reformulations. These reformulations promise a flexible and efficient approach to solving these models. The main novelty of the present work in relation to the recent research lies in finding the solution to moment problems, for the first time, with piecewise SOS-convex functions from their numerically tractable exact SDP reformulations.

Abstract:
The Super $τ$-Charm facility (STCF) is an electron-positron collider proposed by the Chinese particle physics community. It is designed to operate in a center-of-mass energy range from 2 to 7 GeV with a peak luminosity of $0.5\times 10^{35}{\rm cm}^{-2}{\rm s}^{-1}$ or higher. The STCF will produce a data sample about a factor of 100 larger than that by the present $τ$-Charm factory -- the BEPCII,…

It is designed to operate in a center-of-mass energy range from 2 to 7 GeV with a peak luminosity of $0.5\times 10^{35}{\rm cm}^{-2}{\rm s}^{-1}$ or higher. The STCF will produce a data sample about a factor of 100 larger than that by the present $τ$-Charm factory -- the BEPCII, providing a unique platform for exploring the asymmetry of matter-antimatter (charge-parity violation), in-depth studies of the internal structure of hadrons and the nature of non-perturbative strong interactions, as well as searching for exotic hadrons and physics beyond the Standard Model. The STCF project in China is under development with an extensive R\&D program. This document presents the physics opportunities at the STCF, describes conceptual designs of the STCF detector system, and discusses future plans for detector R\&D and physics case studies.

We propose a hybrid silicon waveguide scheme to avoid the impact of noise photons induced by pump lights in application scenarios of quantum photonic circuits with quantum light sources. The scheme is composed of strip waveguide and shallow-ridge waveguide structures. It utilizes the difference of biphoton spectra generated by spontaneous four wave mixing (SFWM) in these two waveguides. By proper pum** setting and signal/idler wavelength selection, the generation of desired photon pairs is confined in the strip waveguide. The impact of noise photons generated by SFWM in the shallow-ridge waveguide could be avoided. Hence, the shallow-ridge waveguide could be used to realize various linear operation devices for pump light and quantum state manipulations. The feasibility of this scheme is verified by theoretical analysis and primary experiment. Two applications are proposed and analyzed, showing its great potential on silicon-based quantum photonic circuits.

Abstract:
This paper employs a simple model, considering just geometry and linear or quadratic limb darkening, to fit Kepler transit data via a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methodology for Kepler-1b, 5b, 8b, 12b, 77b, 428b, 491b, 699b, 706b, and 730b. Additional fits were made of the systems using the more sophisticated modeller Winfitter, which gives results in general agreement with the simpler model.…

Additional fits were made of the systems using the more sophisticated modeller Winfitter, which gives results in general agreement with the simpler model. Analysis of data with longer integration times showed biasing of the derived parameters, as expected from the literature,} leading to larger estimates for radii and reducing estimates of the system inclination.
