While Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) systems are widely used in many real-world applications, they often do not generalize well to new domains and need to be finetuned on data from these domains. However, target-domain data usually are not readily available in many scenarios. In this paper, we propose a new strategy for adapting ASR models to new target domains without any text or speech from those domains. To accomplish this, we propose a novel data synthesis pipeline that uses a Large Language Model (LLM) to generate a target domain text corpus, and a state-of-the-art controllable speech synthesis model to generate the corresponding speech. We propose a simple yet effective in-context instruction finetuning strategy to increase the effectiveness of LLM in generating text corpora for new domains. Experiments on the SLURP dataset show that the proposed method achieves an average relative word error rate improvement of $28\%$ on unseen target domains without any performance drop in source domains.

Auto-completing code enables developers to speed up coding significantly. Recent advances in transformer-based large language model (LLM) technologies have been applied to code synthesis. However, studies show that many of such synthesized codes contain vulnerabilities. We propose a novel vulnerability-constrained decoding approach to reduce the amount of vulnerable code generated by such models. Using a small dataset of labeled vulnerable lines of code, we fine-tune an LLM to include vulnerability labels when generating code, acting as an embedded classifier. Then, during decoding, we deny the model to generate these labels to avoid generating vulnerable code. To evaluate the method, we chose to automatically complete Ethereum Blockchain smart contracts (SCs) as the case study due to the strict requirements of SC security. We first fine-tuned the 6-billion-parameter GPT-J model using 186,397 Ethereum SCs after removing the duplication from 2,217,692 SCs. The fine-tuning took more than one week using ten GPUs. The results showed that our fine-tuned model could synthesize SCs with an average BLEU (BiLingual Evaluation Understudy) score of 0.557. However, many codes in the auto-completed SCs were vulnerable. Using the code before the vulnerable line of 176 SCs containing different types of vulnerabilities to auto-complete the code, we found that more than 70% of the auto-completed codes were insecure. Thus, we further fine-tuned the model on other 941 vulnerable SCs containing the same types of vulnerabilities and applied vulnerability-constrained decoding. The fine-tuning took only one hour with four GPUs. We then auto-completed the 176 SCs again and found that our approach could identify 62% of the code to be generated as vulnerable and avoid generating 67% of them, indicating the approach could efficiently and effectively avoid vulnerabilities in the auto-completed code.

The core-collapse supernova (CCSN) is considered one of the most energetic astrophysical events in the universe. The early and prompt detection of neutrinos before (pre-SN) and during the supernova (SN) burst presents a unique opportunity for multi-messenger observations of CCSN events. In this study, we describe the monitoring concept and present the sensitivity of the system to pre-SN and SN neutrinos at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), a 20 kton liquid scintillator detector currently under construction in South China. The real-time monitoring system is designed to ensure both prompt alert speed and comprehensive coverage of progenitor stars. It incorporates prompt monitors on the electronic board as well as online monitors at the data acquisition stage. Assuming a false alert rate of 1 per year, this monitoring system exhibits sensitivity to pre-SN neutrinos up to a distance of approximately 1.6 (0.9) kiloparsecs and SN neutrinos up to about 370 (360) kiloparsecs for a progenitor mass of 30 solar masses, considering both normal and inverted mass ordering scenarios. The pointing ability of the CCSN is evaluated by analyzing the accumulated event anisotropy of inverse beta decay interactions from pre-SN or SN neutrinos. This, along with the early alert, can play a crucial role in facilitating follow-up multi-messenger observations of the next galactic or nearby extragalactic CCSN.

The increasingly Large Language Models (LLMs) demonstrate stronger language understanding and generation capabilities, while the memory demand and computation cost of fine-tuning LLMs on downstream tasks are non-negligible. Besides, fine-tuning generally requires a certain amount of data from individual tasks whilst data collection cost is another issue to consider in real-world applications. In this work, we focus on Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning (PEFT) methods for few-shot Natural Language Generation (NLG), which freeze most parameters in LLMs and tune a small subset of parameters in few-shot cases so that memory footprint, training cost, and labeling cost are reduced while maintaining or even improving the performance. We propose a Scaled Prompt-Tuning (SPT) method which surpasses conventional PT with better performance and generalization ability but without an obvious increase in training cost. Further study on intermediate SPT suggests the superior transferability of SPT in few-shot scenarios, providing a recipe for data-deficient and computation-limited circumstances. Moreover, a comprehensive comparison of existing PEFT methods reveals that certain approaches exhibiting decent performance with modest training cost such as Prefix-Tuning in prior study could struggle in few-shot NLG tasks, especially on challenging datasets.

The absolute branching fraction of $Λ_{c}^{+}\to Σ^{-}K^{+}π^{+}$ is measured to be $(3.8\pm1.3_{\rm stat}\pm0.2_{\rm syst})\times 10^{-4}$ in a model-independent approach. This is the first observation of a Cabibbo-suppressed $Λ_{c}^{+}$ decay involving $Σ^-$ in the final state. The ratio of branching fractions between $Λ_{c}^{+}\to Σ^{-}K^{+}π^{+}$ and the Cabibbo-favored decay $Λ_{c}^{+}\to Σ^- π^+π^+$ is calculated to be $(0.4 \pm 0.1)s_{c}^{2}$, where $s_{c} \equiv \sinθ_c = 0.2248$ with $θ_c$ the Cabibbo mixing angle. This ratio significantly deviates from $1.0s_{c}^{2}$ and provides important information for the understanding of nonfactorization contributions in $Λ_{c}^{+}$ decays.

Fusing Radar and Lidar sensor data can fully utilize their complementary advantages and provide more accurate reconstruction of the surrounding for autonomous driving systems. Surround Radar/Lidar can provide 360-degree view sampling with the minimal cost, which are promising sensing hardware solutions for autonomous driving systems. However, due to the intrinsic physical constraints, the rotating speed of surround Radar, and thus the frequency to generate Radar data frames, is much lower than surround Lidar. Existing Radar/Lidar fusion methods have to work at the low frequency of surround Radar, which cannot meet the high responsiveness requirement of autonomous driving systems. This paper develops techniques to fuse surround Radar/Lidar with working frequency only limited by the faster surround Lidar instead of the slower surround Radar, based on the state-of-the-art object detection model MVDNet. The basic idea of our approach is simple: we let MVDNet work with temporally unaligned data from Radar/Lidar, so that fusion can take place at any time when a new Lidar data frame arrives, instead of waiting for the slow Radar data frame. However, directly applying MVDNet to temporally unaligned Radar/Lidar data greatly degrades its object detection accuracy. The key information revealed in this paper is that we can achieve high output frequency with little accuracy loss by enhancing the training procedure to explore the temporal redundancy in MVDNet so that it can tolerate the temporal unalignment of input data. We explore several different ways of training enhancement and compare them quantitatively with experiments.

One of the fundamental goals of particle physics is to gain microscopic understanding of the strong interaction. Electromagnetic form factors quantify the structure of hadrons in terms of charge and magnetization distributions. While the nucleon structure has been investigated extensively, data on hyperons is still scarce. It has recently been demonstrated that electron-positron annihilations into hyperon-antihyperon pairs provide a powerful tools to investigate their inner structure. We present a novel method useful for hyperon-antihyperon pairs of different types which exploits the cross section enhancement due to the vacuum polarization effect at the $J/ψ$ resonance. Using the 10 billion $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector, this allows a thorough determination of the hyperon structure . The result is essentially a precise snapshot of a $\barΛΣ^0$~($Λ\barΣ^0$) pair in the making, encoded in the form factor ratio and the phase. Their values are measured to be $R = 0.860\pm0.029({\rm stat.})\pm0.010({\rm syst.})$, $ΔΦ_1=(1.011\pm0.094({\rm stat.})\pm0.010({\rm syst.}))~\rm rad$ for $\barΛΣ^0$ and $ΔΦ_2=(2.128\pm0.094({\rm stat.})\pm0.010({\rm syst.}))~\rm rad$ for $Λ\barΣ^0$, respectively. Furthermore, charge-parity (CP) breaking is investigated for the first time in this reaction and found to be consistent with CP symmetry.

Training a generative model with limited number of samples is a challenging task. Current methods primarily rely on few-shot model adaption to train the network. However, in scenarios where data is extremely limited (less than 10), the generative network tends to overfit and suffers from content degradation. To address these problems, we propose a novel phasic content fusing few-shot diffusion model with directional distribution consistency loss, which targets different learning objectives at distinct training stages of the diffusion model. Specifically, we design a phasic training strategy with phasic content fusion to help our model learn content and style information when t is large, and learn local details of target domain when t is small, leading to an improvement in the capture of content, style and local details. Furthermore, we introduce a novel directional distribution consistency loss that ensures the consistency between the generated and source distributions more efficiently and stably than the prior methods, preventing our model from overfitting. Finally, we propose a cross-domain structure guidance strategy that enhances structure consistency during domain adaptation. Theoretical analysis, qualitative and quantitative experiments demonstrate the superiority of our approach in few-shot generative model adaption tasks compared to state-of-the-art methods. Stroke-based rendering aims to recreate an image with a set of strokes. Most existing methods render complex images using an uniform-block-dividing strategy, which leads to boundary inconsistency artifacts. To solve the problem, we propose Compositional Neural Painter, a novel stroke-based rendering framework which dynamically predicts the next painting region based on the current canvas, instead of dividing the image plane uniformly into painting regions. We start from an empty canvas and divide the painting process into several steps. At each step, a compositor network trained with a phasic RL strategy first predicts the next painting region, then a painter network trained with a WGAN discriminator predicts stroke parameters, and a stroke renderer paints the strokes onto the painting region of the current canvas. Moreover, we extend our method to stroke-based style transfer with a novel differentiable distance transform loss, which helps preserve the structure of the input image during stroke-based stylization. Extensive experiments show our model outperforms the existing models in both stroke-based neural painting and stroke-based stylization. Based on $4.4~\text{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ annihilation data collected at the center-of-mass energies between $4.60$ and $4.70~\text{GeV}$ with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the pure \textit{W}-boson-exchange decay $Λ_{c}^{+}\toΞ^{0}K^{+}$ is studied with a full angular analysis. The corresponding decay asymmetry is measured for the first time to be $α_{Ξ^{0}K^{+}}=0.01\pm0.16({\rm stat.})\pm0.03({\rm syst.})$. This result reflects the non-interference effect between the $S$- and $P$-wave amplitudes. The phase shift between $S$- and $P$-wave amplitudes has two solutions, which are $δ_{p}-δ_{s}=-1.55\pm0.25({\rm stat.})\pm0.05({\rm syst.})~\text{rad}$ or $1.59\pm0.25({\rm stat.})\pm0.05({\rm syst.})~\text{rad}$.

Owing to the trade-off between the accuracy and efficiency, machine-learning-potentials (MLPs) have been widely applied in the battery materials science, enabling atomic-level dynamics description for various critical processes. However, the challenge arises when dealing with complex transition metal (TM) oxide cathode materials, as multiple possibilities of d-orbital electrons localization often lead to convergence to different spin states (or equivalently local minimums with respect to the spin configurations) after ab initio self-consistent-field calculations, which causes a significant obstacle for training MLPs of cathode materials. In this work, we introduce a solution by incorporating an additional feature - atomic spins - into the descriptor, based on the pristine deep potential (DP) model, to address the above issue by distinguishing different spin states of TM ions. We demonstrate that our proposed scheme provides accurate descriptions for the potential energies of a variety of representative cathode materials, including the traditional Li$_x$TMO$_2$ (TM=Ni, Co, Mn, $x$=0.5 and 1.0), Li-Ni anti-sites in Li$_x$NiO$_2$ ($x$=0.5 and 1.0), cobalt-free high-nickel Li$_x$Ni$_{1.5}$Mn$_{0.5}$O$_4$ ($x$=1.5 and 0.5), and even a ternary cathode material Li$_x$Ni$_{1/3}$Co$_{1/3}$Mn$_{1/3}$O$_2$ ($x$=1.0 and 0.67). We highlight that our approach allows the utilization of all ab initio results as a training dataset, regardless of the system being in a spin ground state or not. Overall, our proposed approach paves the way for efficiently training MLPs for complex TM oxide cathode materials.

Ultrafast light-matter interaction has emerged as a powerful tool to control and probe the macroscopic properties of functional materials, especially two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides which can form different structural phases with distinct physical properties. However, it is often difficult to accurately determine the transient optical constants. In this work, we developed a near-infrared pump - terahertz to midinfrared (12-22 THz) probe system in transmission geometry to measure the transient optical conductivity in 2H-MoTe2 layered material. By performing separate measurements on bulk and thin-film samples, we are able to overcome issues related to nonuniform substrate thickness and penetration depth mismatch and to extract the transient optical constants reliably. Our results show that photoexcitation at 690 nm induces a transient insulator-metal transition, while photoexcitation at 2 um has a much smaller effect due to the photon energy being smaller than the band gap of the material. Combining this with a single-color pump-probe measurement, we show that the transient response evolves towards 1T' phase at higher flunece. Our work provides a comprehensive understanding of the photoinduced phase transition in the 2H-MoTe2 system.

Virtual content instability caused by device pose tracking error remains a prevalent issue in markerless augmented reality (AR), especially on smartphones and tablets. However, when examining environments which will host AR experiences, it is challenging to determine where those instability artifacts will occur; we rarely have access to ground truth pose to measure pose error, and even if pose error is available, traditional visualizations do not connect that data with the real environment, limiting their usefulness. To address these issues we present SiTAR (Situated Trajectory Analysis for Augmented Reality), the first situated trajectory analysis system for AR that incorporates estimates of pose tracking error. We start by develo** the first uncertainty-based pose error estimation method for visual-inertial simultaneous localization and map** (VI-SLAM), which allows us to obtain pose error estimates without ground truth; we achieve an average accuracy of up to 96.1% and an average F1 score of up to 0.77 in our evaluations on four VI-SLAM datasets. Next we present our SiTAR system, implemented for ARCore devices, combining a backend that supplies uncertainty-based pose error estimates with a frontend that generates situated trajectory visualizations. Finally, we evaluate the efficacy of SiTAR in realistic conditions by testing three visualization techniques in an in-the-wild study with 15 users and 13 diverse environments; this study reveals the impact both environment scale and the properties of surfaces present can have on user experience and task performance.

Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) are a powerful class of numerical solvers for partial differential equations, employing deep neural networks with successful applications across a diverse set of problems. However, their effectiveness is somewhat diminished when addressing issues involving singularities, such as point sources or geometric irregularities, where the approximations they provide often suffer from reduced accuracy due to the limited regularity of the exact solution. In this work, we investigate PINNs for solving Poisson equations in polygonal domains with geometric singularities and mixed boundary conditions. We propose a novel singularity enriched PINN (SEPINN), by explicitly incorporating the singularity behavior of the analytic solution, e.g., corner singularity, mixed boundary condition and edge singularities, into the ansatz space, and present a convergence analysis of the scheme. We present extensive numerical simulations in two and three-dimensions to illustrate the efficiency of the method, and also a comparative study with several existing neural network based approaches.

Abstract:
At $z \lesssim 1$, shock heating caused by large-scale velocity flows and possibly violent feedback from galaxy formation, converts a significant fraction of the cool gas ($T\sim 10^4$ K) in the intergalactic medium (IGM) into warm-hot phase (WHIM) with $T >10^5$K, resulting in a significant deviation from the previously tight power-law IGM temperature-density relationship,…

At $z \lesssim 1$, shock heating caused by large-scale velocity flows and possibly violent feedback from galaxy formation, converts a significant fraction of the cool gas ($T\sim 10^4$ K) in the intergalactic medium (IGM) into warm-hot phase (WHIM) with $T >10^5$K, resulting in a significant deviation from the previously tight power-law IGM temperature-density relationship, $T=T_0 (ρ/ {\barρ})^{γ-1}$. This study explores the impact of the WHIM on measurements of the low-$z$ IGM thermal state, $[T_0,γ]$, based on the $b$-$N_{H I}$ distribution of the Lyman-$α$ forest. Exploiting a machine learning-enabled simulation-based inference method trained on Nyx hydrodynamical simulations, we demonstrate that [$T_0$, $γ$] can still be reliably measured from the $b$-$N_{H I}$ distribution at $z=0.1$, notwithstanding the substantial WHIM in the IGM. To investigate the effects of different feedback, we apply this inference methodology to mock spectra derived from the IllustrisTNG and Illustris simulations at $z=0.1$. The results suggest that the underlying $[T_0,γ]$ of both simulations can be recovered with biases as low as $|Δ\log(T_0/\text{K})| \lesssim 0.05$ dex, $|Δγ| \lesssim 0.1$, smaller than the precision of a typical measurement. Given the large differences in the volume-weighted WHIM fractions between the three simulations (Illustris 38\%, IllustrisTNG 10\%, Nyx 4\%) we conclude that the $b$-$N_{H I}$ distribution is not sensitive to the WHIM under realistic conditions. Finally, we investigate the physical properties of the detectable Lyman-$α$ absorbers, and discover that although their $T$ and $Δ$ distributions remain mostly unaffected by feedback, they are correlated with the photoionization rate used in the simulation.

Background. Coronary artery calcium (CAC) is a powerful predictor of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). Traditional Agatston score simply sums the calcium, albeit in a non-linear way, leaving room for improved calcification assessments that will more fully capture the extent of disease.
Objective. To determine if AI methods using detailed calcification features (i.e., calcium-omics) can improve MACE prediction.
Methods. We investigated additional features of calcification including assessment of mass, volume, density, spatial distribution, territory, etc. We used a Cox model with elastic-net regularization on 2457 CT calcium score (CTCS) enriched for MACE events obtained from a large no-cost CLARIFY program (ClinicalTri-als.gov Identifier: NCT04075162). We employed sampling techniques to enhance model training. We also investigated Cox models with selected features to identify explainable high-risk characteristics.
Results. Our proposed calcium-omics model with modified synthetic down sampling and up sampling gave C-index (80.5%/71.6%) and two-year AUC (82.4%/74.8%) for (80:20, training/testing), respectively (sampling was applied to the training set only). Results compared favorably to Agatston which gave C-index (71.3%/70.3%) and AUC (71.8%/68.8%), respectively. Among calcium-omics features, numbers of calcifications, LAD mass, and diffusivity (a measure of spatial distribution) were important determinants of increased risk, with dense calcification (>1000HU) associated with lower risk. The calcium-omics model reclassified 63% of MACE patients to the high risk group in a held-out test. The categorical net-reclassification index was NRI=0.153.
Conclusions. AI analysis of coronary calcification can lead to improved results as compared to Agatston scoring. Our findings suggest the utility of calcium-omics in improved prediction of risk.

3D human generation from 2D images has achieved remarkable progress through the synergistic utilization of neural rendering and generative models. Existing 3D human generative models mainly generate a clothed 3D human as an undetectable 3D model in a single pass, while rarely considering the layer-wise nature of a clothed human body, which often consists of the human body and various clothes such as underwear, outerwear, trousers, shoes, etc. In this work, we propose HumanLiff, the first layer-wise 3D human generative model with a unified diffusion process. Specifically, HumanLiff firstly generates minimal-clothed humans, represented by tri-plane features, in a canonical space, and then progressively generates clothes in a layer-wise manner. In this way, the 3D human generation is thus formulated as a sequence of diffusion-based 3D conditional generation. To reconstruct more fine-grained 3D humans with tri-plane representation, we propose a tri-plane shift operation that splits each tri-plane into three sub-planes and shifts these sub-planes to enable feature grid subdivision. To further enhance the controllability of 3D generation with 3D layered conditions, HumanLiff hierarchically fuses tri-plane features and 3D layered conditions to facilitate the 3D diffusion model learning. Extensive experiments on two layer-wise 3D human datasets, SynBody (synthetic) and TightCap (real-world), validate that HumanLiff significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods in layer-wise 3D human generation. Data complexity analysis quantifies the hardness of constructing a predictive model on a given dataset. However, the effectiveness of existing data complexity measures can be challenged by the existence of irrelevant features and feature interactions in biological micro-array data. We propose a novel data complexity measure, depth, that leverages an evolutionary inspired feature selection algorithm to quantify the complexity of micro-array data. By examining feature subsets of varying sizes, the approach offers a novel perspective on data complexity analysis. Unlike traditional metrics, depth is robust to irrelevant features and effectively captures complexity stemming from feature interactions. On synthetic micro-array data, depth outperforms existing methods in robustness to irrelevant features and identifying complexity from feature interactions. Applied to case-control genotype and gene-expression micro-array datasets, the results reveal that a single feature of gene-expression data can account for over 90% of the performance of multi-feature model, confirming the adequacy of the commonly used differentially expressed gene (DEG) feature selection method for the gene expression data. Our study also demonstrates that constructing predictive models for genotype data is harder than gene expression data. The results in this paper provide evidence for the use of interpretable machine learning algorithms on microarray data.

Through genome-wide association studies (GWAS), disease susceptible genetic variables can be identified by comparing the genetic data of individuals with and without a specific disease. However, the discovery of these associations poses a significant challenge due to genetic heterogeneity and feature interactions. Genetic variables intertwined with these effects often exhibit lower effect-size, and thus can be difficult to be detected using machine learning feature selection methods. To address these challenges, this paper introduces a novel feature selection mechanism for GWAS, named Feature Co-selection Network (FCSNet). FCS-Net is designed to extract heterogeneous subsets of genetic variables from a network constructed from multiple independent feature selection runs based on a genetic algorithm (GA), an evolutionary learning algorithm. We employ a non-linear machine learning algorithm to detect feature interaction. We introduce the Community Risk Score (CRS), a synthetic feature designed to quantify the collective disease association of each variable subset. Our experiment showcases the effectiveness of the utilized GA-based feature selection method in identifying feature interactions through synthetic data analysis. Furthermore, we apply our novel approach to a case-control colorectal cancer GWAS dataset. The resulting synthetic features are then used to explain the genetic heterogeneity in an additional case-only GWAS dataset.

We present a new measurement of the positive muon magnetic anomaly, $a_μ\equiv (g_μ- 2)/2$, from the Fermilab Muon $g\!-\!2$ Experiment using data collected in 2019 and 2020. We have analyzed more than 4 times the number of positrons from muon decay than in our previous result from 2018 data. The systematic error is reduced by more than a factor of 2 due to better running conditions, a more stable beam, and improved knowledge of the magnetic field weighted by the muon distribution, $\tildeω'^{}_p$, and of the anomalous precession frequency corrected for beam dynamics effects, $ω_a$. From the ratio $ω_a / \tildeω'^{}_p$, together with precisely determined external parameters, we determine $a_μ= 116\,592\,057(25) \times 10^{-11}$ (0.21 ppm). Combining this result with our previous result from the 2018 data, we obtain $a_μ\text{(FNAL)} = 116\,592\,055(24) \times 10^{-11}$ (0.20 ppm). The new experimental world average is $a_μ(\text{Exp}) = 116\,592\,059(22)\times 10^{-11}$ (0.19 ppm), which represents a factor of 2 improvement in precision.

Adverse drug reaction (ADR) prediction plays a crucial role in both health care and drug discovery for reducing patient mortality and enhancing drug safety. Recently, many studies have been devoted to effectively predict the drug-ADRs incidence rates. However, these methods either did not effectively utilize non-clinical data, i.e., physical, chemical, and biological information about the drug, or did little to establish a link between content-based and pure collaborative filtering during the training phase. In this paper, we first formulate the prediction of multi-label ADRs as a drug-ADR collaborative filtering problem, and to the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to provide extensive benchmark results of previous collaborative filtering methods on two large publicly available clinical datasets. Then, by exploiting the easy accessible drug characteristics from non-clinical data, we propose ADRNet, a generalized collaborative filtering framework combining clinical and non-clinical data for drug-ADR prediction. Specifically, ADRNet has a shallow collaborative filtering module and a deep drug representation module, which can exploit the high-dimensional drug descriptors to further guide the learning of low-dimensional ADR latent embeddings, which incorporates both the benefits of collaborative filtering and representation learning. Extensive experiments are conducted on two publicly available real-world drug-ADR clinical datasets and two non-clinical datasets to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed ADRNet. The code is available at https://github.com/haoxuanli-pku/ADRnet.

Inspired by recent theoretical proposal on the interesting piezomagnetism and C-paired valley polarization in V2Se2O monolayer, we predict a stable antiferromagnetic Janus monolayer V2SeTeO with altermagnetic configuration using density functional theory calculations. It exhibits a novel multi-piezo effect combining piezoelectric, piezovalley and piezomagnetism. Most interestingly, the valley polarization and the net magnetization under strain in V2SeTeO exceed these in V2Se2O, along with the additional large piezoelectric coefficient of e31 (0.322*10-10 C m-1). The multi-piezo effect makes antiferromagnetic Janus monolayer V2SeTeO a tantalizing material for potential applications in nanoelectronics, optoelectronics, spintronics and valleytronics.

Using a fully differential angular description of the final state particles, both the relative magnitude and phase information of the $Σ^{+}$ electromagnetic form factors in the timelike region are extracted. The relative phase between the electric and magnetic form factors is determined to be $\sinΔΦ$ = -0.67~$\pm$~0.29~(stat)~$\pm$~0.18~(syst) at $\sqrt{s}$ = 2.3960 GeV, $ΔΦ$ = 55$^{\circ}$~$\pm$~19$^{\circ}$~(stat) $\pm$~14$^{\circ}$~(syst) at $\sqrt{s}$ = 2.6454 GeV, and 78$^{\circ}$~$\pm$~22$^{\circ}$~(stat) $\pm$~9$^{\circ}$~(syst) at $\sqrt{s}$ = 2.9000 GeV. For the first time, the phase of the hyperon electromagnetic form factors is explored in a wide range of four-momentum transfer. The evolution of the phase along with four-momentum transfer is an important input for understanding its asymptotic behavior and the dynamics of baryons.

In this paper, we investigate the problem of controlling multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to enclose a moving target in a distributed fashion based on a relative distance and self-displacement measurements. A relative localization technique is developed based on the recursive least square estimation (RLSE) technique with a forgetting factor to estimates both the ``UAV-UAV'' and ``UAV-target'' relative positions. The formation enclosing motion is planned using a coupled oscillator model, which generates desired motion for UAVs to distribute evenly on a circle. The coupled-oscillator-based motion can also facilitate the exponential convergence of relative localization due to its persistent excitation nature. Based on the generation strategy of desired formation pattern and relative localization estimates, a cooperative formation tracking control scheme is proposed, which enables the formation geometric center to asymptotically converge to the moving target. The asymptotic convergence performance is analyzed theoretically for both the relative localization technique and the formation control algorithm. Numerical simulations are provided to show the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. Experiments with three quadrotors tracking one target are conducted to evaluate the proposed target enclosing method in real platforms.

Furthermore, an $e^+e^-$ invariant-mass dependent transition form factor of $J/ψ\to e^+ e^-η(1405)$ is presented for the first time. The obtained result provides input for different theoretical models, and is valuable for the improved understanding the intrinsic structure of the $η(1405)$ meson.

By analyzing 7.33 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector, we report the observation of the semileptonic decay $D^+_s\to η^\prime μ^+ν_μ$, with a statistical significance larger than 10$σ$, and the measurements of the $D_s^+ \to ημ^+ν_μ$ and $D_s^+ \to η^\primeμ^+ν_μ$ decay dynamics for the first time. The branching fractions of $D_s^+ \to ημ^+ν_μ$ and $D_s^+ \to η^\primeμ^+ν_μ$ are determined to be $(2.235\pm0.051_{\rm stat}\pm0.052_{\rm syst})\%$ and $(0.801\pm0.055_{\rm stat}\pm0.028_{\rm syst})\%$, respectively, with precision improved by factors of 6.0 and 6.6 compared to the previous best measurements. Combined with the results for the decays $D_s^+ \to ηe^+ν_e$ and $D_s^+ \to η^\prime e^+ν_e$, the ratios of the decay widths are examined both inclusively and in several $\ell^+ν_\ell$ four-momentum transfer ranges. No evidence for lepton flavor universality violation is found within the current statistics. The products of the hadronic form factors $f_{+,0}^{η^{(\prime)}}(0)$ and the $c\to s$ Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cs}|$ are determined. The results based on the two-parameter series expansion are $f^η_{+,0}(0)|V_{cs}| = 0.452\pm0.010_{\rm stat}\pm0.007_{\rm syst}$ and $f^{η^{\prime}}_{+,0}(0)|V_{cs}| = 0.504\pm0.037_{\rm stat}\pm0.012_{\rm syst}$, which help to constrain present models on $f_{+,0}^{η^{(\prime)}}(0)$. The forward-backward asymmetries are determined to be $\langle A_{\rm FB}^η\rangle=-0.059\pm0.031_{\rm stat}\pm0.005_{\rm syst}$ and $\langle A_{\rm FB}^{η^\prime}\rangle=-0.064\pm0.079_{\rm stat}\pm0.006_{\rm syst}$ for the first time, which are consistent with the theoretical calculation.

Abstract:
The cross sections of the $e^{+}e^{-}\toφη'$ process at center-of-mass energies from 3.508 to 4.951 GeV are measured with high precision using 26.1 fb$^{-1}$ data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. The cross sections are of the order of a few picobarn, and decrease as the center-of-mass energy increases as $s^{-n/2}$ with $n=4.35\pm 0.14$. This result is in ag…

This result is in agreement with the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model prediction of $n=3.5\pm 0.9$. In addition, the charmless decay $ψ(3770)\toφη'$ is searched for by fitting the measured cross sections, yet no significant signal is observed. The upper limit of ${\cal B}(ψ(3770)\toφη')$ at the 90\% confidence level is determined to be $2.3\times 10^{-5}$.

Quantum computing has shown considerable promise for compute-intensive tasks in recent years. For instance, classification tasks based on quantum neural networks (QNN) have garnered significant interest from researchers and have been evaluated in various scenarios. However, the majority of quantum classifiers are currently limited to binary classification tasks due to either constrained quantum computing resources or the need for intensive classical post-processing. In this paper, we propose an efficient quantum multi-classifier called MORE, which stands for measurement and correlation based variational quantum multi-classifier. MORE adopts the same variational ansatz as binary classifiers while performing multi-classification by fully utilizing the quantum information of a single readout qubit. To extract the complete information from the readout qubit, we select three observables that form the basis of a two-dimensional Hilbert space. We then use the quantum state tomography technique to reconstruct the readout state from the measurement results. Afterward, we explore the correlation between classes to determine the quantum labels for classes using the variational quantum clustering approach. Next, quantum label-based supervised learning is performed to identify the map** between the input data and their corresponding quantum labels. Finally, the predicted label is determined by its closest quantum label when using the classifier. We implement this approach using the Qiskit Python library and evaluate it through extensive experiments on both noise-free and noisy quantum systems. Our evaluation results demonstrate that MORE, despite using a simple ansatz and limited quantum resources, achieves advanced performance.

We report the measurement of the inclusive cross sections for $e^+e^-$$\rightarrow$nOCH (where nOCH denotes non-open charm hadrons) with improved precision at center-of-mass (c.m.) energies from 3.645 to 3.871 GeV. We observe three resonances: $\mathcal R(3760)$, $\mathcal R(3780)$, and $\mathcal R(3810)$ with significances of $8.1σ$, $13.7σ$, and $8.8σ$, respectively. The $\mathcal R(3810)$ state is observed for the first time, while the $\mathcal R(3760)$ and $\mathcal R(3780)$ states are observed for the first time in the nOCH cross sections. Two sets of resonance parameters describe the energy-dependent line shape of the cross sections well. In set I [set II], the $\mathcal R(3810)$ state has mass $(3805.7 \pm 1.1 \pm 2.7)$ [$(3805.7 \pm 1.1 \pm 2.7)$] MeV/$c^2$, total width $(11.6 \pm 2.9 \pm 1.9)$ [$(11.5 \pm 2.8 \pm 1.9)$] MeV, and an electronic width multiplied by the nOCH decay branching fraction of $(10.9\pm 3.8\pm 2.5)$ [$(11.0\pm 3.4\pm 2.5)$] eV. In addition, we measure the branching fractions ${\mathcal B}[{\mathcal R}(3760)$$\rightarrow$nOCH$]=(25.2 \pm 16.1 \pm 30.4)\% [(6.4 \pm 4.8 \pm 7.7)\%]$ and ${\mathcal B}[\mathcal R(3780)$$\rightarrow$nOCH$]=(12.3 \pm 6.6 \pm 8.3)\% [(10.4 \pm 4.8 \pm 7.0)\%]$ for the first time. The $\mathcal R(3760)$ state can be interpreted as an open-charm (OC) molecular state, but containing a simple four-quark state component. The $\mathcal R(3810)$ state can be interpreted as a hadrocharmonium state.

In generative modeling, numerous successful approaches leverage a low-dimensional latent space, e.g., Stable Diffusion models the latent space induced by an encoder and generates images through a paired decoder. Although the selection of the latent space is empirically pivotal, determining the optimal choice and the process of identifying it remain unclear. In this study, we aim to shed light on this under-explored topic by rethinking the latent space from the perspective of model complexity. Our investigation starts with the classic generative adversarial networks (GANs). Inspired by the GAN training objective, we propose a novel "distance" between the latent and data distributions, whose minimization coincides with that of the generator complexity. The minimizer of this distance is characterized as the optimal data-dependent latent that most effectively capitalizes on the generator's capacity. Then, we consider parameterizing such a latent distribution by an encoder network and propose a two-stage training strategy called Decoupled Autoencoder (DAE), where the encoder is only updated in the first stage with an auxiliary decoder and then frozen in the second stage while the actual decoder is being trained. DAE can improve the latent distribution and as a result, improve the generative performance. Our theoretical analyses are corroborated by comprehensive experiments on various models such as VQGAN and Diffusion Transformer, where our modifications yield significant improvements in sample quality with decreased model complexity.

We study the process $e^{+}e^{-}\toΛ_{c}^{+}\barΛ_c^{-}$ at twelve center-of-mass energies from $4.6119$ to $4.9509~\mathrm{GeV}$ using data samples collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross sections and effective form factors ($|G_{\mathrm{eff}}|$) are determined with unprecedented precision after combining the single and double-tag methods based on the decay process $Λ_{c}^{+}\to pK^{-}π^{+}$. Flat cross sections around $4.63~\mathrm{GeV}$ are obtained and no indication of the resonant structure $Y(4630)$, as reported by Belle, is found. In addition, no oscillatory behavior is discerned in the $|G_{\mathrm{eff}}|$ energy-dependence of $Λ_{c}^{+}$, in contrast to what is seen for the proton and neutron cases. Analyzing the cross section together with the polar-angle distribution of the $Λ_{c}^{+}$ baryon at each energy point, the moduli of electric and magnetic form factors ($|G_{E}|$ and $|G_{M}|$) are extracted and separated. For the first time, the energy-dependence of the form factor ratio $|G_{E}/G_{M}|$ is observed, which can be well described by an oscillatory function.

Thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) based frequency doublers have been widely recognized as essential components for both classical and quantum optical communications. Nonetheless, the efficiency of these devices is hindered by imperfections present in the quasi-phase matching (QPM) spectrum. In this study, we present a thorough analysis of the spectral imperfections in TFLN frequency doublers with varying lengths, ranging from 5 mm to 15 mm. Employing a non-destructive diagnostic method based on scattered light imaging, we identify the sources and waveguide sections that contribute to the imperfections in the QPM spectrum. Furthermore, by map** the TFLN film thickness across the entire waveguiding regions, we successfully reproduce the QPM spectra numerically, thus confirming the prominent influence of film thickness variations on the observed spectral imperfections. This comprehensive investigation provides valuable insights into the identification and mitigation of spectral imperfections in TFLN-based frequency doublers, paving the way toward the realization of nonlinear optical devices with enhanced efficiency and improved spectral fidelity.

Large language models (LLMs) demonstrate remarkable ability to comprehend, reason, and generate following nature language instructions. However, the development of LLMs has been primarily focused on high-resource languages, such as English, thereby limiting their applicability and research in other languages. Consequently, we present PolyLM, a multilingual LLM trained on 640 billion (B) tokens, avaliable in two model sizes: 1.7B and 13B. To enhance its multilingual capabilities, we 1) integrate bilingual data into training data; and 2) adopt a curriculum learning strategy that increases the proportion of non-English data from 30% in the first stage to 60% in the final stage during pre-training. Further, we propose a multilingual self-instruct method which automatically generates 132.7K diverse multilingual instructions for model fine-tuning. To assess the model's performance, we collect several existing multilingual tasks, including multilingual understanding, question answering, generation, and translation. Extensive experiments show that PolyLM surpasses other open-source models such as LLaMA and BLOOM on multilingual tasks while maintaining comparable performance in English. Our models, alone with the instruction data and multilingual benchmark, are available at: \url{https://modelscope.cn/models/damo/nlp_polylm_13b_text_generation}.

The absolute branching fraction is measured as ${\mathcal B}(D^+_s\to φμ^+ν_μ) = (2.25\pm 0.09 \pm 0.07) \times10^{-2}$, the most precise measurement to date. Combining with the world average of ${\mathcal B}(D^+_s\to φe^+ν_e)$, the ratio of the branching fractions obtained is$\frac{{\mathcal B}(D^+_s\to φμ^+ν_μ)}{{\mathcal B}(D^+_s\to φe^+ν_e)} = 0.94\pm0.08$, in agreement with lepton universality. By performing a partial wave analysis, the hadronic form factor ratios at $q^{2}=0$ are extracted, finding $r_{V}=\frac{V(0)}{A_{1}(0)}=1.58\pm0.17\pm0.02$ and $r_{2}=\frac{A_{2}(0)}{A_{1}(0)}=0.71\pm0.14\pm0.02$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. No significant $S$-wave contribution from $f_0(980)\to K^+K^-$ is found. The upper limit $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\to f_0(980)μ^{+}ν_μ) \cdot{\mathcal B}(f_0(980)\to K^+K^-) < 5.45 \times 10^{-4}$ is set at 90\% confidence level.
