Nowadays, pulmonary Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) is the main tool for detecting Pulmonary Embolism (PE). However, manual interpretation of CTA volume requires a radiologist, which is time-consuming and error-prone due to the specific conditions of lung tissue, large volume of data, lack of experience, and eye fatigue. Therefore, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems are used as a second opinion for the diagnosis of PE. The purpose of this article is to review, evaluate, and compare the performance of deep learning and traditional-based CAD system for diagnosis PE and to help physicians and researchers in this field. In this study, all articles available in databases such as IEEE, ScienceDirect, Wiley, Springer, Nature, and Wolters Kluwer in the field of PE diagnosis were examined using traditional and deep learning methods. From 2002 to 2023, 23 papers were studied to extract the articles with the considered limitations. Each paper presents an automatic PE detection system that we evaluate using criteria such as sensitivity, False Positives (FP), and the number of datasets. This research work includes recent studies, state-of-the-art research works, and a more comprehensive overview compared to previously published review articles in this research area.

Fault detection and reconfiguration in fault-tolerant converters may complicated and necessitate using all-purpose microprocessors and high-speed sensors to guarantee the satisfactory performance of power converters. Therefore, providing fault-clearing feature without increasing the processing and sensing burdens and reducing the transition time between faulty to normal state are of great importance. This research proposes a new redundant-switch configuration to address the mentioned challenges. The proposed configuration uses one diode and two fuses to eliminate the faulty switch and replace the reserve one, spontaneously. Open-circuit fault in the proposed configuration is clarified instantly. Moreover, the short-circuit fault is dealt as an open-circuit fault by using a fuse. Thus, the fault-tolerant feature of the proposed switch configuration is achieved without using a complex, versatile and multifaceted fault managing unit. Resultant behaviors of the case studies are derived using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Also, steady-state thermal distribution of power switches which are implemented on a monolith heat sink, analyzed in COMSOL Multi-physics environment. Finally, the viability of the proposed configuration is demonstrated by a laboratory-scaled prototype.

In this paper, a non-isolated high step-up DC-DC converter has been proposed for renewable energy applications. The proposed structure converter has been derived from the fundamental Zeta converter, in both of which only a single switch is employed. The voltage gain ratio has considerably enhanced in this converter with the absence of using switched capacity. To magnify voltage gain of the converter, a coupled-inductor has adopted. Increase and decrease of gain by changing the ratio of coupled-inductor assist the duty cycle. The number of components is low in this structure. The operating principle and evaluation of the proposed converter, considering designing approaches for elements, are discussed in detail. To verify the feasibility of the proposed converter, simulation results have been provided and evaluated.

Today, power waste is one of the most crucial problems which power stations across the world are facing. One of the recent trends of the energy system is the lean management technique. When lean management is indicated by the system, customer value is increased and the waste process in industry or in a power station is reduced. In this paper, first of all, we propose mathematical modeling to reduce the cost of production, and then the simulation technique applies to electricity transmission distribution systems. Furthermore, we consider two criteria for comparison including the different costs of the system and the rate of energy waste during the transmission. The primary approach is to use both of the models in order to draw a comparison between simulation results and mathematical models. Finally, the analysis of the test results done by the CPLEX toolbox of MATLAB Software 2019 leads to a remarkable decrease in the costs of energy demand in the electricity transmitting network distribution system.

In this work, the room temperature polar vapor sensing behavior of two dimentional (2D) heterojunction Graphene-TiS3 materials and TiS3 nanoribbons is investigated. TiS3 nanoribbons were synthesized via chemical vapor transport (CVT) and their structure was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), energy dispersive X- ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) analysis. The gas sensing performance of the TiS3 nanoribbons was assessed through the observed changes in their electronic behavior. Sensing devices were fabricated with gold contacts and with lithographically patterned graphene (Gr) electrodes in a 2D heterojunction Gr-TiS3-Gr architecture.. It is observed that the gold contacted TiS3 device has a rather linear I-V behavior while the Gr-TiS3-Gr heterojunction forms a contact with a higher Schottky barrier (250 meV). I-V responses of the sensors were recorded at room temperature with a relative humidity of 55% and for different ethanol vapor concentrations (varying from 2 to 20 ppm). I-V plots indicated an increase in the resistance of Gr-TiS3-Gr by the adsorption of water and ethanol molecules with relatively high sensing response (~3353% at 2 ppm). Our results reveal that selective and stable responses to a low concentration of ethanol vapor (2 ppm) can be achieved at room temperature with transient response and recovery times of around 6 s and 40 s, respectively. Our proposed design demonstrate a new approach for selective molecular recognition using polar interactions between analyte vapors and heterojunctions of 2D-materials.

Pursuing three important elements including economic, safety, and traffic are the overall objective of decision evaluation across all transport projects. In this study, we investigate the feasibility of the development of city interchanges and road connections for network users. To achieve this goal, a series of minor goals are required to be met in advance including determining benefits, costs of implement-ing new highway interchanges, quantifying the effective parameters, the increase in fuel consumption, the reduction in travel time, and finally influence on travel speed. In this study, geometric advancement of Hakim highway, and Yadegar-e-Emam Highway were investigated in the Macro view from the cloverleaf inter-section with a low capacity to a three-level directional intersection of the enhanced cloverleaf. For this purpose, the simulation was done by EMME software of INRO Company. The results of the method were evaluated by the objective of net present value (NPV), and the benefit and cost of each one was stated precisely in different years. At the end, some suggestion has been provided.

A population-based optimization algorithm was designed, inspired by two main thinking modes in philosophy, both based on dialectic concept and thesis-antithesis paradigm. They impose two different kinds of dialectics. Idealistic and materialistic antitheses are formulated as optimization models. Based on the models, the population is coordinated for dialectical interactions. At the population-based context, the formulated optimization models are reduced to a simple detection problem for each thinker (particle). According to the assigned thinking mode to each thinker and her/his measurements of corresponding dialectic with other candidate particles, they deterministically decide to interact with a thinker in maximum dialectic with their theses. The position of a thinker at maximum dialectic is known as an available antithesis among the existing solutions. The dialectical interactions at each ideological community are distinguished by meaningful distributions of step-sizes for each thinking mode. In fact, the thinking modes are regarded as exploration and exploitation elements of the proposed algorithm. The result is a delicate balance without any requirement for adjustment of step-size coefficients. Main parameter of the proposed algorithm is the number of particles appointed to each thinking modes, or equivalently for each kind of motions. An additional integer parameter is defined to boost the stability of the final algorithm in some particular problems. The proposed algorithm is evaluated by a testbed of 12 single-objective continuous benchmark functions. Moreover, its performance and speed were highlighted in sparse reconstruction and antenna selection problems, at the context of compressed sensing and massive MIMO, respectively. The results indicate fast and efficient performance in comparison with well-known evolutionary algorithms and dedicated state-of-the-art algorithms.

We propose a swarm-based optimization algorithm inspired by air currents of a tornado. Two main air currents - spiral and updraft - are mimicked. Spiral motion is designed for exploration of new search areas and updraft movements is deployed for exploitation of a promising candidate solution. Assignment of just one search direction to each particle at each iteration, leads to low computational complexity of the proposed algorithm respect to the conventional algorithms. Regardless of the step size parameters, the only parameter of the proposed algorithm, called tornado diameter, can be efficiently adjusted by randomization. Numerical results over six different benchmark cost functions indicate comparable and, in some cases, better performance of the proposed algorithm respect to some other metaheuristics.

Compressed sensing (CS) theory considers the restricted isometry property (RIP) as a sufficient condition for measurement matrix which guarantees the recovery of any sparse signal from its compressed measurements. The RIP condition also preserves enough information for classification of sparse symbols, even with fewer measurements. In this work, we utilize RIP bound as the cost function for training a simple neural network in order to exploit the near optimal measurements or equivalently near optimal features for classification of a known set of sparse symbols. As an example, we consider demodulation of pulse position modulation (PPM) signals. The results indicate that the proposed method has much better performance than the random measurements and requires less samples than the optimum matched filter demodulator, at the expense of some performance loss. Further, the proposed approach does not need equalizer for multipath channels in contrast to the conventional receiver.

We propose a new technique for adaptive identification of sparse systems based on the compressed sensing (CS) theory. We manipulate the transmitted pilot (input signal) and the received signal such that the weights of adaptive filter approach the compressed version of the sparse system instead of the original system. To this end, we use random filter structure at the transmitter to form the measurement matrix according to the CS framework. The original sparse system can be reconstructed by the conventional recovery algorithms. As a result, the denoising property of CS can be deployed in the proposed method at the recovery stage. The experiments indicate significant performance improvement of proposed method compared to the conventional LMS method which directly identifies the sparse system. Furthermore, at low levels of sparsity, our method outperforms a specialized identification algorithm that promotes sparsity.

We propose a new algorithm for recovery of sparse signals from their compressively sensed samples. The proposed algorithm benefits from the strategy of gradual movement to estimate the positions of non-zero samples of sparse signal. We decompose each sample of signal into two variables, namely "value" and "detector", by a weighted exponential function. We update these new variables using gradient descent method. Like the traditional compressed sensing algorithms, the first variable is used to solve the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (Lasso) problem. As a new strategy, the second variable participates in the regularization term of the Lasso (l1 norm) that gradually detects the non-zero elements. The presence of the second variable enables us to extend the corresponding vector of the first variable to matrix form. This makes possible use of the correlation matrix for a heuristic search in the case that there are correlations among the samples of signal. We compare the performance of the new algorithm with various algorithms for uncorrelated and correlated sparsity. The results indicate the efficiency of the proposed methods.

This paper addresses the problem of controlling a variable-speed wind turbine with a Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG), modeled as an electromechanically-coupled nonlinear system with rotor voltages and blade pitch angle as its inputs, active and reactive powers as its outputs, and most of the aerodynamic and mechanical parameters as its uncertainties. Using a blend of linear and nonlinear control strategies (including feedback linearization, pole placement, uncertainty estimation, and gradient-based potential function minimization) as well as time-scale separation in the dynamics, we develop a controller that is capable of maximizing the active power in the Maximum Power Tracking (MPT) mode, regulating the active power in the Power Regulation (PR) mode, seamlessly switching between the two modes, and simultaneously adjusting the reactive power to achieve a desired power factor. The controller consists of four cascaded components, uses realistic feedback signals, and operates without knowledge of the C_p-surface, air density, friction coefficient, and wind speed. Finally, we show the effectiveness of the controller via simulation with a realistic wind profile.
