Within the framework of the extended teleparallel gravity, a new class of boson stars has recently been constructed by introducing the nonminimal coupling of the scalar field to the torsion scalar. An interesting feature of these static, spherical, self-gravitating configurations of the massive complex scalar field is their central region with outwardly increasing energy density, surrounded by a thick shell within which the joining with the usual asymptotically Schwarzschild tail takes place. In this work we extend the original model with the $U(1)$ gauge field and we find that the combined effect of the charge and coupling of the field to torsion leads to a significant increase of the maximal mass and the particle number that can be supported against gravity. We also show that some charged configurations preserve the property of having the outwardly increasing energy density over the central region, regardless of the fact that charging the configurations affects the anisotropy of the pressures in the opposite way relative to that of the field-to-torsion coupling terms.

We study the nonminimally coupled complex scalar field within the framework of teleparallel gravity. Coupling of the field nonminimally to the torsion scalar destroys the Lorentz invariance of the theory in the sense that the resulting equations of motion depend on the choice of a tetrad. For the assumed static spherically symmetric spacetime, we find a tetrad which leads to a self-consistent set of equations, and we construct the self-gravitating configurations of the scalar field---boson stars. The resulting configurations develop anisotropic principal pressures and satisfy the dominant energy condition. An interesting property of the configurations obtained with sufficiently large field-to-torsion coupling constant is the outwardly increasing energy density, followed by an abrupt drop towards the usual asymptotic tail. This feature is not present in the boson stars with the field minimally or nonminimally coupled to the curvature scalar, and therefore appears to be a torsion--only effect.

In the context of gravitational lensing in the strong deflection regime, the presence of a photon sphere leads to an unbounded angle of deflection of light (multiple turns) and formation of relativistic images. In this paper, we show that photon spheres may form in some configurations of boson stars constructed with a free massive complex scalar field nonminimally coupled to gravity. Assuming that the boson star is transparent to light, photon spheres would give raise not only to phenomena in the realm of strong gravitational lensing, but also to considerably increased photon flux in the central region of the star, relative to the flux in its surroundings.

We show that even a rather minimal extension of the Einstein - Hilbert action by a nonminimal coupling of the scalar field to the Ricci curvature scalar results in configurations that resemble more the dark energy stars then the ordinary boson stars. Even though many of those configurations are endowed by negative principal pressures, the strong energy condition, as a signal of repulsive gravity, is not significantly violated in these configurations. When imposing restrictions on matter from energy conditions we find that the maximally allowed masses are shifted to the lower values due to the violation of the weak and dominant energy conditions. We also calculate the effective compactness and show that its maximum value is attained in the region of negative pressures, and is greater then that in ordinary boson stars. Moreover, we develop a universality technique which allows to efficiently map small configurations, that are easily solved by numerical methods, to large astrophysical objects.

In the class of theories whose actions are generated by Lagrangians of the form $f(R)=\sum α_{n}\,R^{n}$ we find parameters which allow for the existence of energy condition respecting throats, which do not exist in Einstein gravity. We also consider the effect of the modified action on the anisotropy of the models, and find that modified gravity can minimize the amount of anisotropy required to support the existence of a throat. In both these respects, the sector containing theories with positive $n$ is more promising than the negative $n$ sector in comparison to Einstein gravity alone, with large $n$ being most favorable

Radial stability of the continuous pressure gravastar is studied using the conventional Chandrasekhar method. The equation of state for the static gravastar solutions is derived and Einstein equations for small perturbations around the equilibrium are solved as an eigenvalue problem for radial pulsations. Within the model there exist a set of parameters leading to a stable fundamental mode, thus proving radial stability of the continuous pressure gravastar. It is also shown that the central energy density possesses an extremum in rho_c(R) curve which represents a splitting point between stable and unstable gravastar configurations. As such the rho_c(R) curve for the gravastar mimics the famous M(R) curve for a polytrope. Together with the former axial stability calculations this work completes the stability problem of the continuous pressure gravastar.

Quasi-local variables, i.e. quantities whose values can be derived from physics accessible within an arbitrarily small neighborhood of a spacetime point, are used to construct the equation of state (EoS) for the anisotropic fluid in the spherical symmetry. One parameter families of equilibrium solutions are obtained making it possible to assess stability properties by means of the standard M(R) method. Normal modes of radial pulsation are computed as well and are found to confirm the onset of instability as predicted by the M(R) method. As an example, a stable configuration with outwardly increasing energy density in the core is obtained with a simple quasi-local extension of the polytropic EoS. It is also found that the loss of stability occurs at higher surface compactness when the anisotropy of pressures is present.

The notion of a compact object immune to the horizon problem and comprising an anisotropic inhomogeneous fluid with a specific radial pressure behavior, i.e. the gravastar, is extended by introducing an electrically charged component. Einstein-Maxwell field equations are solved in the asymptotically de Sitter interior where a source of the electric field is coupled to the fluid energy density. Two different solutions which satisfy the dominant energy condition are given: one is the delta-shell model for which the analysis is carried out within Israel's thin shell formalism, the other approach - the continuous profile model - is solved numerically and the interior solutions have been (smoothly) joined with the Reissner-Nordstrom exterior. The effect of electric charge is considered, and the equation of state, the speed of sound and the surface redshift are calculated for both models.

We consider the gravastar model where the vacuum phase transition between the de Sitter interior and the Schwarzschild or Schwarzschild-de Sitter exterior geometries takes place at a single spherical delta-shell. We derive sharp analytic bounds on the surface compactness (2m/r) that follow from the requirement that the dominant energy condition (DEC) holds at the shell. In the case of Schwarzschild exterior, the highest surface compactness is achieved with the stiff shell in the limit of vanishing (dark) energy density in the interior. In the case of Schwarzschild-de Sitter exterior, in addition to the gravastar configurations with the shell under surface pressure, gravastar configurations with vanishing shell pressure (dust shells), as well as configurations with the shell under surface tension, are allowed by the DEC. Respective bounds on the surface compactness are derived for all cases. We also consider the speed of sound on the shell as derived from the requirement that the shell is stable against the radial perturbations. The causality requirement (sound speed not exceeding that of light) further restricts the space of allowed gravastar configurations.

Solutions for the static spherically symmetric extremally charged dust in the Majumdar--Papapetrou system have been found. For a certain amount of the allocated mass/charge, the solutions have singularities of a type which could render them physically unacceptable, since the corresponding physically relevant quantities are singular as well. These solutions, with a number of zero-nodes in the metric tensor, are regularized through the $δ$-shell formalism, thus redefining the mass/charge distributions. The bifurcating behaviour of regular solutions found before is no longer present in these singular solutions, but quantized-like behaviour in the total mass is observed. Spectrum of regularized solutions restores the equality of the Tolman--Whittaker and ADM mass, as well the equality of the net charge and ADM mass, which is the distinctive feature of Majumdar--Papapetrou systems.

We study the gravitational vacuum star (gravastar) configuration as proposed by other authors in a model where the interior de Sitter spacetime segment is continuously extended to the exterior Schwarzschild spacetime. The multilayered structure in previous papers is replaced by a continuous stress-energy tensor at the price of introducing anisotropy in the (fluid) model of the gravastar. Either with an ansatz for the equation of state connecting the radial $p_r$ and tangential $p_t$ pressure or with a calculated equation of state with non-homogeneous energy/fluid density, solutions are obtained which in all aspects satisfy the conditions expected for an anisotropic gravastar. Certain energy conditions have been shown to be obeyed and a polytropic equation of state has been derived. Stability of the solution with respect to possible axial perturbation is shown to hold.

A general shell model formalism for the nonmesonic weak decay of the hypernuclei has been developed. It involves a partial wave expansion of the emitted nucleon waves, preserves naturally the antisymmetrization between the esca** particles and the residual core, and contains as a particular case the weak $Λ$-core coupling formalism. The Extreme Particle-Hole Model and the Quasiparticle Tamm-Dancoff Approximation are explicitly worked out. It is shown that the nuclear structure manifests itself basically through Pauli Principle, and a very simple expression is derived for the neutron and proton induced decays rates, $Γ_n$ and $Γ_p$, which does not involve the spectroscopic factors. We use the standard strangeness-changing weak $ΛN\to NN$ transition potential which comprises the exchange of the complete pseudoscalar and vector meson octets ($π,η,K,ρ,ω,K^*$), taking into account some important parity violating transition operators that are systematically omitted in the literature. The interplay between different mesons in the decay of ${^{12}_ΛC}$ is carefully analyzed. With the commonly used parametrization in the One-Meson-Exchange Model (OMEM), the calculated rate $Γ_{NM}= Γ_n+Γ_p$ is of the order of the free $Λ$ decay rate $Γ^0(Γ_{NM}^{\rm th}\cong Γ^0)$ and is consistent with experiments. Yet, the measurements of $Γ_{n/p}=Γ_n/Γ_p$ and of $Γ_p$ are not well accounted for by the theory ($Γ_{n/p}^{\rm th}\lsim 0.42; Γ_p^{\rm th}\gsim 0.60 Γ^0$). It is suggested that, unless additional degrees of freedom are incorporated, the OMEM parameters should be radically modified.
