Truncated Conformal Space Approach (TCSA) is a highly efficient method to compute spectra, operator matrix elements and time evolution in quantum field theories defined as relevant perturbations of 1+1-dimensional conformal field theories. However, similarly to other exact diagonalisation methods, TCSA is ridden with the "curse of dimensionality": the dimension of the Hilbert space increases exponentially with the (square root of the) truncation level, limiting its precision by the available memory resources. Here we describe an algorithm which exploits the chiral factorisation property of conformal field theory with periodic boundary conditions to achieve a substantial improvement in the truncation level. The Chirally Factorised TCSA (CFTCSA) algorithm presented here works with inputs describing the necessary CFT data in a specified format. It makes possible much more precise calculations with given computing resources and extends the reach of the method to problems requiring large Hilbert space dimensions. In fact, it has already been used in a number of recent works ranging from determination of form factors, through studying confinement of topological excitations to non-equilibrium dynamics. Besides the description of the algorithm, a MATLAB implementation of the algorithm is also provided as an ancillary file package, supplemented with example codes computing spectra, matrix elements and time evolution, and with CFT data for three different quantum field theories. We also give a detailed how-to guide for constructing the required CFT data for Virasoro minimal models with central charge c<1, and for the massless free boson with c=1.

When the quantum critical transverse-field Ising chain is perturbed by a longitudinal field, a quantum integrable model emerges in the scaling limit with massive excitations described by the exceptional $E_{8}$ Lie algebra. Using the corresponding analytical form factors of the quantum $E_{8}$ integrable model, we systematically study the spin dynamic structure factor of the perturbed quantum critical Ising chain, where particle channels with total energy up to 5$m_1$ ($m_1$ being the mass of the lightest $E_{8}$ particle) are exhausted. In addition to the significant single-particle contributions to the dynamic spectrum, each two-particle channel with different masses is found to exhibit an edge singularity at the threshold of the total mass and decays with an inverse square root of energy, which is attributed to the singularity of the two-particle density of states at the threshold. The singularity is absent for particles with equal masses due to a cancellation mechanism involving the structure of the form factors. As a consequence, the dynamic structure factor displays a cascade of bum** peaks in the continuum region with clear singular features which can serve as a solid guidance for the material realization of the quantum $E_{8}$ model.

The Kibble-Zurek mechanism captures universality when a system is driven through a continuous phase transition. Here we study the dynamical aspect of quantum phase transitions in the Ising Field Theory where the critical point can be crossed in different directions in the two-dimensional coupling space leading to different scaling laws. Using the Truncated Conformal Space Approach, we investigate the microscopic details of the Kibble-Zurek mechanism in a genuinely interacting field theory. We demonstrate dynamical scaling in the non-adiabatic time window and provide analytic and numerical evidence for specific scaling properties of various quantities, including higher cumulants of the excess heat.

We report $^{51}$V nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and inelastic neutron scattering (INS) measurements on a quasi-1D antiferromagnet BaCo$_2$V$_2$O$_8$ under transverse field along the [010] direction. The scaling behavior of the spin-lattice relaxation rate above the Néel temperatures unveils a 1D quantum critical point (QCP) at $H_c^{1D}\approx 4.7$ T, which is masked by the 3D magnetic order. With the aid of accurate analytical analysis and numerical calculations, we show that the zone center INS spectrum at $H_c^{1D}$ is precisely described by the pattern of the 1D quantum Ising model in a magnetic field, a class of universality described in terms of the exceptional $E_8$ Lie algebra. These excitations keep to be non-diffusive over a certain field range when the system is away from the 1D QCP. Our results provide an unambiguous experimental realization of the massive $E_8$ phase in the compound, and open new experimental route for exploring the dynamics of quantum integrable systems as well as physics beyond integrability.

In analytic descriptions of quantum quenches, the overlaps between the initial pre-quench state and the eigenstates of the time evolving Hamiltonian are crucial ingredients. We construct perturbative expansions of these overlaps in quantum field theories where either the pre-quench or the post-quench Hamiltonian is integrable. Using the $E_8$ Ising field theory for concrete computations, we give explicit expressions for the overlaps up to second order in the quench size, and verify our results against numerical results obtained using the Truncated Conformal Space Approach. We demonstrate that the expansion using the post-quench basis is very effective, but find some serious limitations for the alternative approach using the pre-quench basis.

We numerically simulate the time evolution of the Ising field theory after quenches starting from the $E_8$ integrable model using the Truncated Conformal Space Approach. The results are compared with two different analytic predictions based on form factor expansions in the pre-quench and post-quench basis, respectively. Our results clarify the domain of validity of these expansions and suggest directions for further improvement. We show for quenches in the $E_8$ model that the initial state is not of the integrable pair state form. We also construct quench overlap functions and show that their high-energy asymptotics are markedly different from those constructed before in the sinh/sine-Gordon theory, and argue that this is related to properties of the ultraviolet fixed point.
