In this paper, we scrutinize a radiatively generated QCD $θ$ parameter at the two-loop level based on both full analytical loop functions with the Fock-Schwinger gauge method and the effective field theory approach, using simplified models. We observe that the radiatively generated $θ$ parameters at the low energy scale precisely match between them. It provides validity to perturbative loop calculations of the QCD $θ$ parameter with the Fock-Schwinger gauge method. Furthermore, it is also shown that the ordinary Fujikawa method for the radiative $θ$ parameter by using $\barθ= - arg det M_q^{loop}$ does not cover all contributions in the simplified models. But, we also find that when there is a scale hierarchy in $CP$-violating sector, evaluation of the Fujikawa method is numerically sufficient. As an application, we calculate the radiative $θ$ parameter at the two-loop level in a slightly extended Nelson-Barr model, where the spontaneous $CP$ violation occurs to solve the strong $CP$ problem. It is found a part of the radiative $θ$ parameters cannot be described by the Fujikawa method.

We consider electrically neutral complex vector particles $V$ below the GeV mass scale that, from a low energy perspective, couple to the photon via higher dimensional form factor interactions. We derive ensuing astrophysical constraints by considering the anomalous energy loss from the Sun, Horizontal Branch, and Red Giant stars as well as from SN1987A that arise from vector pair-production in these environments. Under the assumption that the dark states $V$ constitute dark matter, the bounds are then complemented by direct and indirect detection as well as cosmological limits. The relic density from freeze-out and freeze-in mechanisms is also computed. On the basis of a UV-complete model that realizes the considered effective couplings, we also discuss the naturalness of the constrained parameter space, and provide an analysis of the zero mass limit of $V$.

When the QCD axion is absent in full theory, the strong $CP$ problem has to be explained by an additional mechanism, e.g., the left-right symmetry. Even though tree-level QCD $\barθ$ parameter is restricted by the mechanism, radiative corrections to $\barθ$ are mostly generated, which leads to a dangerous neutron electric dipole moment (EDM). The ordinary method for calculating the radiative $\barθ$ utilizes an equation $\bar θ= - \text{arg}\, \text{det}\, m_q^{\rm loop}$ based on the chiral rotations of complex quark masses. In this paper, we point out that when full theory includes extra heavy quarks, the ordinary method is unsettled for the extra quark contributions and does not contain its full radiative corrections. We formulate a novel method to calculate the radiative corrections to $\barθ$ through a direct loop-diagrammatic approach, which should be more robust than the ordinary one. As an application, we investigate the radiative $\barθ$ in the minimal left-right symmetric model. We first confirm a seminal result that two-loop level radiative $\barθ$ completely vanishes (corresponding to one-loop corrections to the quark mass matrices). Furthermore, we estimate the size of a non-vanishing radiative $\barθ$ at three-loop level. It is found that the resultant induced neutron EDM is comparable to the current experimental bound, and the expected size is restricted by the perturbative unitarity bound in the minimal left-right model.

In this model, $Z_2$-odd spin-1 particles including a DM candidate have the SU(2)$_L$ triplet-like features, and the Sommerfeld enhancement is relevant in the annihilation processes. We derive the annihilation cross sections contributing to the photon emission and compare with the SU(2)$_L$ triplet fermions, such as Wino DM in the supersymmetric Standard Model. The Sommerfeld enhancement factor is approximately the same in both systems, while our spin-1 DM predicts the larger annihilation cross sections into $γγ/ Z γ$ modes than those of the Wino by $\frac{38}{9}$. This is because a spin-1 DM pair forms not only $J=0$ but also $J=2$ partial wave states where $J$ denotes the total spin angular momentum. Our spin-1 DM also has a new annihilation mode into $Z_2$-even extra heavy vector and photon, $Z' γ$. For this mode, the photon energy depends on the masses of DM and the heavy vector, and thus we have a chance to probe the mass spectrum. The latest gamma-ray line search in the Galactic Center region gives a strong constraint on our spin-$1$ DM. We can probe the DM mass for $\lesssim 25.3~$TeV by the Cherenkov Telescope Array experiment even if we assume a conservative DM density profile.

In this paper, we derive a simplified formula of electric dipole moments (EDMs) of a fermion. In the Standard Model, it is well-known that non-trivial cancellations between some rainbow-type diagrams induced by $W$ boson exchanges occur in the calculation of the neutron EDM at the two-loop level due to the gauge symmetry. The fermion self-energy and the vertex correction are related through the Ward-Takahashi identity, and this relation causes the exact cancellation of the EDM. We derive EDM formulas for a more general setup by introducing the form factors for the fermion self-energy and the vertex correction so that the derived formulas can be applicable to a larger class of models. We conclude that the non-zero EDM contributions are induced from rainbow-type diagrams with the chirality flip** effects for internal fermions. We also discuss the other possible generalization of the EDM calculation which is applicable to the other classes of models.

We show that the hybrid model with one singlet and one triplet fermions predicts an electron EDM larger than the other models in both normal and inverted neutrino mass hierarchy. We find some parameter space has already been ruled out by the current upper bound of the electron EDM and further parameter space can be explored by future experiments.

Dark matter particles, even if they are electrically neutral, could interact with the Standard Model particles via their electromagnetic multipole moments. In this paper, we focus on the electromagnetic properties of the complex vector dark matter candidate, which can be described by means of seven form factors. We calculate the differential scattering cross-section with nuclei due to the interactions of the dark matter and nuclear multipole moments, and we derive upper limits on the former from the non-observation of dark matter signals in direct detection experiments. We also present a model where the dark matter particle is a gauge boson of a dark $SU(2)$ symmetry, and which contains heavy new fermions, charged both under the dark $SU(2)$ symmetry and under the electromagnetic $U(1)$ symmetry. The new fermions induce at the one loop level electromagnetic multipole moments, which could lead to detectable signals in direct detection experiments.

We propose an electroweakly interacting spin-1 dark matter (DM) model. The electroweak gauge symmetry, SU(2)$_L\times$U(1)$_Y$, is extended into SU(2)$_0\times$SU(2)$_1 \times $SU(2)$_2 \times$U(1)$_Y$. A discrete symmetry exchanging SU(2)$_0$ and SU(2)$_2$ is imposed. This discrete symmetry stabilizes the DM candidate. The spin-1 DM particle ($V^0)$ and its SU(2)$_L$ partners ($V^\pm$) interact with the Standard Model (SM) electroweak gauge bosons without any suppression factors. Consequently, pairs of DM particles efficiently annihilate into the SM particles in the early universe, and the measured value of the DM energy density is easily realized by the thermal freeze-out mechanism. The model also predicts a heavy vector triplet ($W'^\pm$ and $Z'$) in the visible sector. They contribute to the DM annihilation processes. The mass ratio of $Z'$ and $V^0$ determines values of various couplings, and constraints on $W'$ and $Z'$ restrict regions of the parameter space that are viable for DM physics. We investigate the constraints from perturbative unitarity of scalar and gauge couplings, the Higgs signal strength, $W'$ search at the LHC, and DM direct detection experiments. It is found that the relic abundance of $V^0$ explains the right amount of the DM energy density for 3 TeV $\lesssim m_{V^0} \lesssim$ 19 TeV.

We investigate the maximum value of the spin-independent cross section ($σ_\text{SI}$) in a dark matter (DM) model called the two-Higgs doublet model + a (THDM+a). This model can explain the measured value of the DM energy density by the freeze-out mechanism. Also, $σ_\text{SI}$ is suppressed by the momentum transfer at the tree level, and loop diagrams give the leading contribution to it. The model prediction of $σ_\text{SI}$ highly depends on values of $c_1$ and $c_2$ that are the quartic couplings between the gauge singlet CP-odd state ($a_0$) and Higgs doublet fields ($H_1$ and $H_2$), $c_1 a_0^2 H_1^\dagger H_1$ and $c_2 a_0^2 H_2^\dagger H_2$. We discuss the upper and lower bounds on $c_1$ and $c_2$ by studying the stability of the electroweak vacuum, the condition for the potential bounded from the below, and the perturbative unitarity. We find that the condition for the stability of the electroweak vacuum gives upper bounds on $c_1$ and $c_2$. The condition for the potential to be bounded from below gives lower bounds on $c_1$ and $c_2$. It also constrains the mixing angle between the two CP-odd states. The perturbative unitarity bound gives the upper bound on the Yukawa coupling between the dark matter and $a_0$ and the quartic coupling of $a_0$. Under these theoretical constraints, we find that the maximum value of the $σ_\text{SI}$ is $\sim 5\times 10^{-47}$ cm$^2$ for $m_A = $ 600 GeV, and the LZ and XENONnT experiments can see the DM signal predicted in this model near future.

Dark matter (DM) simplified models are by now commonly used by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations to interpret searches for missing transverse energy ($E_T^\mathrm{miss}$). The coherent use of these models sharpened the LHC DM search program, especially in the presentation of its results and their comparison to DM direct-detection (DD) and indirect-detection (ID) experiments. However, the community has been aware of the limitations of the DM simplified models, in particular the lack of theoretical consistency of some of them and their restricted phenomenology leading to the relevance of only a small subset of $E_T^\mathrm{miss}$ signatures. This document from the LHC Dark Matter Working Group identifies an example of a next-generation DM model, called $\textrm{2HDM+a}$, that provides the simplest theoretically consistent extension of the DM pseudoscalar simplified model. A comprehensive study of the phenomenology of the $\textrm{2HDM+a}$ model is presented, including a discussion of the rich and intricate pattern of mono-$X$ signatures and the relevance of other DM as well as non-DM experiments. Based on our discussions, a set of recommended scans are proposed to explore the parameter space of the $\textrm{2HDM+a}$ model through LHC searches. The exclusion limits obtained from the proposed scans can be consistently compared to the constraints on the $\textrm{2HDM+a}$ model that derive from DD, ID and the DM relic density.

If dark matter (DM) is a fermion and its interactions with the standard model particles are mediated by pseudoscalar particles, the tree-level amplitude for the DM-nucleon elastic scattering is suppressed by the momentum transfer in the non-relativistic limit. At the loop level, on the other hand, the spin-independent contribution to the cross section appears without such suppression. Thus, the loop corrections are essential to discuss the sensitivities of the direct detection experiments for the model prediction. The one-loop corrections were investigated in the previous works. However, the two-loop diagrams give the leading order contribution to the DM-gluon effective operator ($\barχ χG^{a}_{μν} G^{a μν} $) and have not been correctly evaluated yet. Moreover, some interaction terms which affect the scattering cross section were overlooked. In this paper, we show the cross section obtained by the improved analysis and discuss the region where the cross section becomes large.

We present the physics program of the Belle II experiment, located on the intensity frontier SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. Belle II collected its first collisions in 2018, and is expected to operate for the next decade. It is anticipated to collect 50/ab of collision data over its lifetime. This book is the outcome of a joint effort of Belle II collaborators and theorists through the Belle II theory interface platform (B2TiP), an effort that commenced in 2014. The aim of B2TiP was to elucidate the potential impacts of the Belle II program, which includes a wide scope of physics topics: B physics, charm, tau, quarkonium, electroweak precision measurements and dark sector searches. It is composed of nine working groups (WGs), which are coordinated by teams of theorist and experimentalists conveners: Semileptonic and leptonic B decays, Radiative and Electroweak penguins, phi_1 and phi_2 (time-dependent CP violation) measurements, phi_3 measurements, Charmless hadronic B decay, Charm, Quarkonium(like), tau and low-multiplicity processes, new physics and global fit analyses. This book highlights "golden- and silver-channels", i.e. those that would have the highest potential impact in the field. Theorists scrutinised the role of those measurements and estimated the respective theoretical uncertainties, achievable now as well as prospects for the future. Experimentalists investigated the expected improvements with the large dataset expected from Belle II, taking into account improved performance from the upgraded detector.

If we assume the hierarchical structure for soft masses of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) scalar fields and extra scalars, the light stop and the observed Higgs boson can be realized. While the stau is the lightest SUSY particle (LSP) in broad parameter space, we have found that the neutralino LSP is realized in the case that the non-zero soft parameters for the MSSM Higgs doublets or the non-universal gaugino masses are assumed.

In this paper, we investigate predictions of the SO(10) Grand Unified Theory (GUT), where an extra U(1)$^\prime$ gauge symmetry remains up to the supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking scale. The minimal setup of SO(10) GUT unifies quarks and leptons into a ${\bf 16}$-representational field in each generations. The setup, however, suffers from the realization of the realistic Yukawa couplings at the electroweak scale. In order to solve this problem, we introduce ${\bf 10}$-representational matter fields, and then the two kinds of matter fields mix with each other at the SUSY breaking scale, where the extra U(1)$^\prime$ gauge symmetry breaks down radiatively. One crucial prediction is that the Standard Model quarks and leptons are given by the linear combinations of the fields with two different U(1)$^\prime$ charges. The mixing also depends on the flavor. Consequently, the U(1)$^\prime$ interaction becomes flavor violating, and the flavor physics is the smoking-gun signal of our GUT model. The flavor violating $Z'$ couplings are related to the fermion masses and the CKM matrix, so that we can derive some explicit predictions in flavor physics. We especially discuss $K$-$\overline{K}$ mixing, $B_{(s)}$-$\overline{B_{(s)}}$ mixing, and the (semi)leptonic decays of $K$ and $B$ in our model. We also study the flavor violating $μ$ and $τ$ decays and discuss the correlations among the physical observables in this SO(10) GUT framework.

We calculate the high and low scale threshold corrections to the D=6 proton decay mode in supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified theories with higher-dimensional representation Higgs multiplets. In particular, we focus on a missing-partner model in which the grand unified group is spontaneously broken by the 75-dimensional Higgs multiplet and the doublet-triplet splitting problem is solved. We find that in the missing-partner model the D=6 proton decay rate gets suppressed by about 60%, mainly due to the threshold effect at the GUT scale, while the SUSY-scale threshold corrections are found to be less prominent when sfermions are heavy.

In particular, the emphasis is on the structure of the CP-violating interactions and dependences of the BAU and EDMs on masses of the relevant particles. In a concrete mode, we investigate a relationship between the BAU and the electron EDM for a typical parameter set. As long as the BAU-related CP violation predominantly exists, the electron EDM has a strong power in probing electroweak baryogenesis. However, once a BAU-unrelated CP violation comes into play, the direct correlation between the BAU and electron EDM can be lost. Even in such a case, we point out that verifiability of the scenario still remains with the help of Higgs physics.

The electric dipole moments (EDMs) of electron and nucleons are promising probes of the new physics. In generic high-scale supersymmetric (SUSY) scenarios such as models based on mixture of the anomaly and gauge mediations, gluino has an additional contribution to the nucleon EDMs. In this paper, we studied the effect of the $CP$-violating gluon Weinberg operator induced by the gluino chromoelectric dipole moment in the high-scale SUSY scenarios, and we evaluated the nucleon and electron EDMs in the scenarios. We found that in the generic high-scale SUSY models, the nucleon EDMs may receive the sizable contribution from the Weinberg operator. Thus, it is important to compare the nucleon EDMs with the electron one in order to discriminate among the high-scale SUSY models.

In this paper, we study interpretations of the signal and its implication to physics beyond the Standard Model. We find that the resonance could be regarded as a leptophobic vector particle, which could explain a part of the observed excesses without conflict with the present constraints from other direct searches for heavy vector bosons at the LHC as well as the electroweak precision measurements.

We complete the calculation of the wino-nucleon scattering cross section up to the next-to-leading order in $α_s$. We assume that the other sparticles are decoupled and wino interacts with the Standard Model particles via the weak interaction. As a result, the uncertainties coming from the perturbative QCD are significantly reduced to be smaller than those from the nucleon matrix elements. The resultant scattering cross section is found to be larger than the leading-order one by about 70%, which is well above the neutrino background. In the limit of large wino mass the spin-independent scattering cross section with proton turns out $σ_{\text{SI}}^p = 2.3~{}^{+0.2}_{-0.3}~{}^{+0.5}_{-0.4}\times 10^{-47}~ \text{cm}^2$ (errors come from perturbative calculation and input parameters, respectively). The computation for a generic SU(2)$_L$ multiplet dark matter is also presented.

For the precise prediction of the nucleon lifetime induced by the gauge bosons associated with the unified gauge group, it is important to include the renormalization effects on the Wilson coefficients of the dimension-six baryon number violating operators. In this study, we have derived the threshold corrections to these coefficients at the one-loop level in the minimal supersymmetric SU(5) GUT and the extended one with additional SU(5) vector-like pairs. As a result, it is found that the nucleon decay rate is enhanced about 5% in the minimal setup, and then the enhancement could become smaller in the vector-like matter extensions.

One big issue in the SO(10) GUTs is how to realize realistic Yukawa couplings. In our model, not only ${\bf 16}$-dimensional but also ${\bf 10}$-dimensional matter fields are introduced to predict the observed fermion masses and mixings. The Standard-Model quarks and leptons are linear combinations of the ${\bf 16}$- and ${\bf 10}$-dimensional fields so that the $U(1)_{X}$ gauge interaction may be flavor-violating. We investigate the current constraints on the flavor-violating $Z'$ interaction from the flavor physics and discuss prospects for future experiments.

We reformulate the calculation of the dark matter-nucleon scattering cross sections based on the method of effective field theories. We assume that the scatterings are induced by the exchange of colored mediators, and construct the effective theories by integrating out the colored particles. All of the leading order matching conditions as well as the renormalization group equations are presented. We consider a Majorana fermion, and real scalar and vector bosons for the dark matter and show the results for each case. The treatment for the twist-2 operators is discussed in detail, and it is shown that the scale of evaluating their nucleon matrix elements does not have to be the hadronic scale. The effects of the QCD corrections are evaluated on the assumption that the masses of the colored mediators are much heavier than the electroweak scale. Our formulation is systematic and model-independent, and thus suitable to be implemented in numerical packages, such as micrOMEGAs and DarkSUSY.

We study phenomenology of electroweak-interacting fermionic dark matter (DM) with a mass of $\mathcal{O}(100)$ GeV. Constructing the effective Lagrangian that describes the interactions between the Higgs boson and the SU(2)$_L$ isospin multiplet fermion, we evaluate the electric dipole moment (EDM) of electron, the signal strength of Higgs boson decay to two photons and the spin-independent elastic-scattering cross section with proton. As representative cases, we consider the SU(2)$_L$ triplet fermions with zero/nonzero hypercharges and SU(2)$_L$ doublet fermion. It is found that the electron EDM gives stringent constraints on those model parameter spaces. In the cases of the triplet fermion with zero hypercharge and the doublet fermion, the Higgs signal strength does not deviate from the standard model prediction by more than a few % once the current DM direct detection constraint is taken into account, even if the CP violation is suppressed. On the contrary, $\mathcal{O}(10$-$20)$ % deviation may occur in the case of the triplet fermion with nonzero hypercharge. Our representative scenarios may be tested by the future experiments.

Recent results from the LHC experiments, both for the Higgs mass measurement and the direct search for supersymmetric (SUSY) particles, might indicate that the SUSY breaking scale is much higher than the electroweak scale. Although it is difficult to investigate such a scenario at collider experiments, the measurement of the hadronic electric dipole moments is one of promising ways to detect the effects of the SUSY particles. These effects are expressed in terms of the CP-violating effective operators defined at the SUSY breaking scale, which involve quarks, gluons, photons, and gluinos. In this paper, we discuss the QCD corrections to the effective operators in the high-scale SUSY scenario. To appropriately evaluate the radiative corrections in the presence of large mass hierarchy among the SUSY particles, we exploit an effective theoretical approach based on the renormalization-group equations. As a result, it is found that the low-energy quark electric and chromoelectric dipole moments may differ from those evaluated in previous works by O(100) % and O(10) %, respectively.

Although the model has been believed to be excluded due to the too short lifetime of proton, we have found that it is possible to evade the experimental constraints on the proton decay rate if the supersymmetric particles have masses much heavier than the electroweak scale. With such heavy sfermions, the 126GeV Higgs boson is naturally explained, while they do not spoil the gauge coupling unification and the existence of dark matter candidates. Since the resultant proton lifetime lies in the regions which may be reached in the future experiments, proton decay searches may give us a chance to verify the scenario as well as the supersymmetric grand unified models.

We study a possibility of the Higgs boson, which consists of an SU(2) doublet and a septet. The vacuum expectation value of a septet with hypercharge Y=2 is known to preserve the electroweak rho parameter unity at the tree level. Therefore, the septet can give significant contribution to the electroweak symmetry breaking. Due to the mixing with the septet, the gauge coupling of the standard-model-like Higgs boson is larger than that in the standard model. We show the sizable VEV of the Higgs septet can be allowed under the constraint from the electroweak precision data. The signal strengths of the Higgs boson for the diphoton and a pair of weak gauge boson decay channels at the LHC are enhanced, while those for the fermonic decay modes are suppressed. The mass of additional neutral Higgs boson is also bounded by the current LHC data for the standard model Higgs boson. We discussed the phenomenology of the multiply charged Higgs bosons, which come from the septet.

It is found that the OPE calculation is robust when exploiting a particular interpolating field for neutron, while there exist some uncertainties on the phenomenological side. By using input parameters obtained from the lattice calculation, we derive a conservative limit for the contributions of the CP violating operators. We also show the detail of the derivation of the sum rules.

In this Letter we explore the direct detection of the dark matter in the universe, assuming the dark matter particles are degenerate in mass with new colored particles below TeV scale. The scenario with such a mass spectrum is difficult to be confirmed or excluded by the present analysis at the LHC experiments because the QCD jets in the cascade decay of the new particles produced in the proton-proton collision are too soft to be triggered in the event selection. It is shown that both of the spin-independent and spin-dependent couplings of the dark matter with a nucleon are enhanced and the scattering cross section may reach even the current bound of the direct detection experiments. Then such a degenerate scenario may be tested in the direct detection experiments.

Abstract:
A fourth generation of quarks, if it exist, may provide sufficient CP violation for the baryon asymmetry of the Universe. We estimate the neutron electric dipole moment in the presence of a fourth generation, and find it would be dominated by the strange quark chromoelectric dipole moment, assuming it does not get wiped out by a Peccei-Quinn symmetry. We estimate the neutron electric dipole moment in the presence of a fourth generation, and find it would be dominated by the strange quark chromoelectric dipole moment, assuming it does not get wiped out by a Peccei-Quinn symmetry. Both the three electroweak loop and the two-loop electroweak/one-loop gluonic contributions are considered. With m_{b'}, m_{t'} at 500 GeV or so that can be covered at the LHC, and with a Jarlskog CPV factor that is consistent with hints of New Physics in b to s transitions, the neutron EDM is found around 10^{-31}e cm, still far below the 10^{-28}e cm reach of the new experiments being planned or under construction.

Assuming that the lightest neutral component in an SU(2)L gauge multiplet is the main ingredient of dark matter in the universe, we calculate the elastic scattering cross section of the dark matter with nucleon, which is an important quantity for the direct detection experiments. When the dark matter is a real scalar or a Majorana fermion which has only electroweak gauge interactions, the scattering with quarks and gluon are induced through one- and two-loop quantum processes, respectively, and both of them give rise to comparable contributions to the elastic scattering cross section. We evaluate all of the contributions at the leading order and find that there is an accidental cancellation among them. As a result, the spin-independent cross section is found to be O(10^-(46-48)) cm^2, which is far below the current experimental bounds.

Abstract:
We derive cosmological constraints on the annihilation cross section of dark matter with velocity-dependent structure, motivated by annihilating dark matter models through Sommerfeld or Breit-Wigner enhancement mechanisms. In models with annihilation cross section increasing with decreasing dark matter velocity, big-bang nucleosynthesis and cosmic microwave background give stringent constraints.

As an application of our formulae, the direct detection of the first Kaluza-Klein photon in the minimal universal extra dimension model is discussed. It is found that the cross section is larger than those in the previous works by up to a factor of ten.

However, too large left-right mixing is not acceptable since the electroweak-breaking vacuum becomes metastable. In this paper the vacuum transition rate is evaluated by using semiclassical techniques, and constraints on parameters of the model are shown. In the calculation the bounce solution is derived in the multifield space. These constraints are also applied to the case of the low-energy minimal gauge mediation model.

In this article we have calculated the spin-independent cross section of nucleon-dark matter scattering process at loop level, which is relevant to dark matter direct detection. Paying particular attention to the scattering of gluon with dark matter, which contributes as leading order in the perturbation, we have systematically evaluated loop diagrams with tracking the characteristic loop momentum which dominates in the loops. Here loop diagrams whose typical loop momentum scales are the masses of quarks and other heavier particles are separately presented. Then, we have properly taken into account each contribution to give the cross section. We assume that the dark matter is pure bino or wino in the supersymmetric models. The application to other models is straightforward.
