We examine the subtleties of regularization schemes in four-dimensional space ($4S$), related in particular to the introduction of the $γ_5$ matrix. To illustrate we use a "Bumblebee" model featuring dynamically induced Lorentz symmetry violation. The analysis centers on how different regularization methods affect the solutions to the gap equation in this model. We highlight the resolution of ambiguities associated with the $γ_5$ matrix in ultraviolet divergent integrals by employing an enhanced Implicit Regularization (IREG) method. This method extends IREG to a quasi-four-dimensional space, $Q4S = 4S \oplus X$, drawing parallels with the consistent approach of Dimensional Reduction (DRED). Comparative analysis is conducted against results from the 't Hooft-Veltman regularization scheme, conventional IREG in strict $4S$, and sharp momentum cutoff techniques. Our results illustrate a scheme to compute $γ_5$ interactions in physical dimension of divergent amplitudes, confirming the approach in [1].

Higgs decay using an effective Higgs-Yang-Mills interaction in terms of a dimension five operator as well as usual QCD interactions is revisited in the context of Implicit Regularization (IReg) and compared with conventional dimensional regularization (CDR), four dimensional helicity (FDH) and dimensional reduction (DRED) schemes. The decay rate for $H \rightarrow gg(g)$ is calculated in this strictly four-dimensional set-up to $α_s^3$ order in the strong coupling. Moreover we include joint processes that contribute at the same perturbative order in the real emission channels consisting of 3 gluons as well as gluon quark-antiquark final states with light (zero mass) quarks. Unambiguous identification and separation of UV from IR divergences is achieved putting at work the renormalization group scale relation inherent to the method. UV singularities are removed as usual by renormalization, the IR divergences are cancelled due to the method's compliance with the Kinoshita-Lee-Nauenberg (KLN) theorem. Most importantly, we verify that no evanescent fields such as $ε$-scalars need be introduced as required by some mixed regularizations that operate partially in the physical dimension.

We consider a general quantum field relativistic scattering involving two half spin fermions, $A$ and $B$, which are initially entangled with another fermion $C$ that does not participate in the scattering dynamics. We construct general expressions for the reduced spin matrices for the out-state considering a general tripartite spin-entangled state. In particular we study an inelastic QED process at tree-level, namely $e^-e^+\rightarrow μ^- μ^+$ and a half spin fermion $C$ as an spectator particle which can be entangled to the $AB$ system in the following ways: W state, GHZ state, $|\text{A}^α\rangle \otimes |Ψ^{\pm} \rangle_{\text{BC}}$ and $|\text{A}^α\rangle \otimes |Φ^{\pm} \rangle_{\text{BC}}$, where $\{|Ψ^{\pm} \rangle,|Φ^{\pm} \rangle\}$ are the Bell basis states and $|\text{A}^α\rangle$ is a spin superposition state of system $A$. We calculate the von-Neumann entropy variation before and after the scattering for the particle $C$ and show that spin measurements in $C$ contain numerical information about the total cross section of the process. We compare the initial states W and GHZ as well as study the role played by the parameter $α$ in the evaluation of the entropy variations and the cross section encoded in the spectator particle.

Quantum Field Theory, as the keystone of particle physics, has allowed great insights to deciphering the core of Nature. Despite its striking success, by adhering to local interactions, Quantum Field Theory suffers from the appearance of divergent quantities in intermediary steps of the calculation, which encompasses the need for some regularization/renormalization prescription. As an alternative to traditional methods, based on the analytic extension of space-time dimension, frameworks that stay in the physical dimension have emerged, Implicit Regularization is one among them. We briefly review the method, aiming to illustrate how Implicit Regularization complies with the BPHZ theorem, which implies that it respects unitarity and locality to arbitrary loop order.

We consider a double Gaussian approximation to describe the wavefunction of twin photons (also called a biphoton) created in a nonlinear crystal via a type-I spontaneous parametric downconversion (SPDC) process. We find that the wavefunction develops a Gouy phase while it propagates, being dependent of the two-photon correlation through the Rayleigh length. We evaluate the covariance matrix and show that the logarithmic negativity, useful in quantifying entanglement in Gaussian states, although Rayleigh-dependent, does not depend on the propagation distance. In addition, we show that the two-photon entanglement can be connected to the biphoton Gouy phase as these quantities are Rayleigh-length-related. Then, we focus the double Gaussian biphoton wavefunction using a thin lens and calculate a Gouy phase that is in reasonable agreement with the experimental data of D. Kawase et al. published in Ref. We compute the two-loop $β$-function of scalar and spinorial quantum electrodynamics as well as pure Yang-Mills and quantum chromodynamics using the background field method in a fully quadridimensional setup using Implicit Regularization (IREG). Moreover, a thorough comparison with dimensional approaches such as conventional dimensional regularization (CDR) and dimensional reduction (DRED) is presented. Subtleties related to Lorentz algebra contractions/symmetric integrations inside divergent integrals as well as renormalisation schemes are carefully discussed within IREG where the renormalisation constants are fully defined as basic divergent integrals to arbitrary loop order. Moreover, we confirm the hypothesis that momentum routing invariance in the loops of Feynman diagrams implemented via setting well-defined surface terms to zero deliver non-abelian gauge invariant amplitudes within IREG just as it has been proven for abelian theories.

At the heart of the solution is the presence of a $γπ{\bar q} q $ vertex which is absent in the conventional treatment of diagonalization and leads to a deviation from the vector meson dominance (VMD) picture. It contributes to a gauge invariant anomalous tri-axial (AAA) vertex as a pure surface term.

We reconsider the contribution due to $πa_1$-mixing to the anomalous $γ\toπ^+π^0π^-$ amplitude from the standpoint of the low-energy theorem $F^π=e f_π^2 F^{3π}$, which relates the electromagnetic form factor $F_{π^0\toγγ}=F^π$ with the form factor $F_{γ\toπ^+π^0π^-}=F^{3π}$ both taken at vanishing momenta of mesons. Our approach is based on a recently proposed covariant diagonalization of $πa_1$-mixing within a standard effective QCD-inspired meson Lagrangian obtained in the framework of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. We show that the two surface terms appearing in the calculation of the anomalous triangle quark diagrams or AVV- and AAA-type amplitudes are uniquely fixed by this theorem. As a result, both form factors $F^π$ and $F^{3π}$ are not affected by the $πa_1$-mixing, but the concept of vector meson dominance (VMD) fails for $γ\toπ^+π^0π^-$.

We consider a QED scattering ($AB\rightarrow AB$), in which $B$ is initially entangled with a third particle ($C$) that does not participate directly in the scattering. The effect of the scattering over $C$'s final state is evaluated and we note coherence (off-diagonal) terms are created, which lead to non null values for $\langle σ_x\rangle$ and $\langle σ_y\rangle$ that are, in principle, measurable in a Stern-Gerlach apparatus. We chose a particular QED scattering ($e^+e^-\rightarrowμ^+μ^-$) and found that $\langle σ_x\rangle$ and $\langle σ_y\rangle$ are proportional to the total cross section ($σ_{\text{total}}$) of the $AB$ scattering, besides being maximal if $BC$'s initial state is taken as a Bell basis. Furthermore, we calculated the initial and final mutual informations $I_{AC}$ and $I_{BC}$, and noticed an increase (decrease) in $I_{AC}$ ($I_{BC}$), which indicates that, after $AB$ interact, the total amount of correlations (quantum $+$ classical) are distributed among the $3$ subsystems.

A realization of the composite Higgs scenario in the context of the effective model with the $SU(2)_L\times U(1)_R$ symmetric four-Fermi interactions proposed by Miransky, Tanabashi and Yamawaki is studied. The model implements Nambu's mechanism of dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking leading to the formation of $\bar tt$ and $\bar bb$ quark condensates. We explore the vacuum structure and spectrum of the model by using the Schwinger proper-time method. As a direct consequence of this mechanism, the Higgs acquires a mass in accord with its experimental value. The present prediction essentially differs from the known overestimated value, $m_χ= 2m_t$, making more favourable the top condensation scenario presented here. The mass formulas for the members of the second Higgs doublet are also obtained. The Nambu sum rule is discussed. It is shown that the anomalous $U(1)_A$ symmetry breaking modifies this rule at next to leading order in $1/N_c$.

The framework is a known extension of the three flavor Nambu Jona Lasinio model, which includes the full set of explicit chiral symmetry breaking interactions (ESB) up to the same order in large $N_c$ counting as the 't Hooft flavor mixing terms and eight quark interactions. It is shown that the ESB terms are relevant for the description of a soft region in the system's speed of sound and overall slope behavior of the observables computed. For the sake of simplicity, we take a zero mass gauge field multiplet interacting with a massless Majorana spin-$1/2$ field in the adjoint representation of $SU(2)$. We shed light on a long-standing controversy regarding the perturbative evaluation of the supercurrent anomaly in connection with gauge and superconformal symmetry in different frameworks. We find that only superconformal symmetry is unambiguously broken using an invariant four dimensional regularization and compare with the triangle AVV anomaly. Subtleties related to momentum routing invariance in the loops of diagrams and Clifford algebra evaluation inside divergent integrals are also discussed in connection with finite and undetermined quantities in Feynman amplitudes.

We have recently extended the scalar-pseudoscalar sector of a generalized NJL Lagrangian that includes all NLO non derivative interactions in Nc counting (including explicit symmetry breaking ones) in order to incorporate the spin 1 mesons in the low-lying ground state of QCD [1]. Upon bosonization, the well known mixing of the scalar-vector and of the pseudoscalar- axial-vector fields occurs in the quadratic part of the Lagrangian. We show that a linearized diagonalization of these terms can be effected in a completely general way without compromising the underlying symmetries of the Lagrangian [2]. The resulting spin 1 mass spectra evidence a relation involving only the vector and axial-vector meson masses and the constituent quark masses. We discuss the dominant role of this relation in the fits and we show that the model may be fitted to accommodate to a very good accuracy the 4 low-lying meson spectra.

Extensions of the NJL model which go beyond the original 4-quark interaction, which drives the dynamical mass generation, have proven to be quite successful in describing low energy hadronic phenomenology. The inclusion of 8-quark interaction terms solved a metastability problem of the effective potential introduced by the inclusion of the 6-quark 't Hooft determinant term in the 3-flavor version of the model (needed to eliminate the unwanted U(1) axial symmetry) . This model, that has proven to be quite powerful and feature-rich, has been expanded to include all the spin-0 terms, without and with explicit chiral symmetry breaking, which are of the same order as the 't Hooft flavor determinant in a 1/Nc expansion resulting in an unprecedented success in reproducing the low lying scalar and pseudoscalar meson spectra. This success can be seen as a result of the inclusion of the full chiral symmetry breaking pattern. The two critical endpoints which are obtained in the temperature/chemical potential phase diagram are shifted to lower chemical potential and higher temperature when the effect of magnetic field is taken into account. For the studied magnetic field strengths (in the range $eH=0-0.4~GeV^2$) no significant extra transitions are seen to appear.

It is generally assumed that in order to preserve Bose symmetry in the left- (or right-chiral) current it is necessary to equally distribute the chiral anomaly between the vectorial and the axial Ward identities, requiring the use of counterterms to restore consistency. In this work, we show how to calculate the quantum breaking of the left- and right-chiral currents in a way that allows to preserve Bose symmetry independently of the chiral anomaly, using the Implicit Regularization method.

A new mathematical framework for the diagonalization of the nondiagonal vector--scalar and axial-vector--pseudoscalar mixing in the effective meson Lagrangian is described. This procedure has unexpected connections with the Hadamard product of $n\times n$ matrices describing the couplings, masses, and fields involved. The approach is shown to be much more efficient as compared with the standard methods employed previously. The difference is especially noticeable if the chiral symmetry is broken explicitly. The paper ends with an illustrative application to the chiral model with broken $SU(3)_L\times SU(3)_R$ symmetry.

The aim of this article is to study the effect of an Event Horizon on the entanglement of the Quantum Vacuum and how entanglement, together with the Holographic Principle, may explain the current value of the Cosmological Constant, in light of recent theories. Entanglement is tested for vacuum states very near and very far from the Horizon of a de Sitter Universe, using the Peres-Horodecki (PPT) criterion. A scalar vacuum field ($\hatφ$) is averaged inside two boxes of volume $V$ in different spatial positions such that it acquires the structure of a bipartite Quantum Harmonic Oscillator, for which the PPT criterion is a necessary but not sufficient condition of separability. Entanglement is found between states obtained from boxes shaped as spherical shells with thickness of the order of one Planck distance ($l_p$), when one of the states is near the Horizon, and the other state is anywhere in the Universe. Entanglement disappears when the distance of the state near the horizon and the Horizon increases to around $5l_p$. If we consider the Horizon not as a surface but as a spherical shell of thickness $l_p$, then this means that there is entanglement between the states in the Horizon and the rest of the Universe. When both states are at distances larger than $\sim 5 l_p$ from the Horizon, no entanglement is found.

We address the subject of chiral anomalies in two and four dimensional theories. Ambiguities associated with the $γ_5$ algebra within divergent integrals are identified, even though the physical dimension is not altered in the process of regularization. We present a minimal prescription that leads to unique results and apply it to a series of examples. For the particular case of abelian theories with effective chiral vertices, we show: 1- Its implication on the way to display the anomalies democratically in the Ward identities. 2- The possibility to fix an arbitrary surface term in such a way that a momentum routing independent result emerges. This leads to a reinterpretation of the role of momentum routing in the process of choosing the Ward identity to be satisfied in an anomalous process. 3- Momentum Routing Invariance (MRI) is a necessary and sufficient condition to assure vectorial gauge invariance of effective chiral Abelian gauge theories. We also briefly discuss the case of complete chiral theories, using the Chiral Schwinger Model as an example.

We investigate some peculiarities in the calculation of the two-loop beta-function of $N=1$ supersymmetric models which are intimately related to the so-called "Anomaly Puzzle". There is an apparent paradox when the computation is performed in the framework of the covariant derivative background field method. In this formalism, it is obtained a finite two-loop effective action, although a non-null coefficient for the beta-function is achieved by means of the renormalized two-point function in the background field. We show that if the standard background field method is used, this two-point function has a divergent part which allows for the calculation of the beta-function via the renormalization constants, as usual. Therefore, we conjecture that this paradox has its origin in the covariant supergraph formalism itself, possibly being an artifact of the rescaling anomaly.

By relaxing the traditional uniformity assumptions and considering a modulated light quark condensate background we investigate the possible existence of non-uniform phases in this region of the phase diagram. The effects of changes in the coupling strengths of the model are studied and it is shown that the inclusion of flavour mixing combined with the finite current mass of the strange quark catalyses the appearance of the non-uniform phases, extending the domain for their existence.

We investigate the isospin symmetry breaking effects within a recently derived Nambu-Jona-Lasinio related model by fitting the measured pseudoscalar meson masses and weak decay couplings $f_π$, $f_K$. Our model contains the next to leading order terms in the $1/N_c$ expansion of the effective multi-quark Lagrangian, including the ones that break the chiral symmetry explicitly. We show the important phenomenological role of these interactions: (1) they lead to an accurate fit of the low-lying pseudoscalar nonet characteristics; (2) they account for a very good agreement of the current quark masses with the present PDG values; (3) they reduce by $40\%$ the ratio $ε/ε'$ of the $π_0-η$ and $π_0-η'$ mixing angles, as compared to the case that contemplates explicit breaking only in the leading order, bringing it in consonance with the quoted values in the literature. The conventional NJL-type models fail in the joint description of these parameters.

The bosonized Lagrangian at meson tree level describes accurately the empirical ordering and magnitude of the splitting of states in the low lying pseudoscalar and scalar meson nonets, for which the explicit symmetry breaking terms turn out to be essential. The strong interaction and radiative decays of the scalar mesons are understood in terms of the underlying microscopic multi-quark states, which are probed differently by the strong and the electromagnetic interactions. We also obtain that the anomalous two photon decays of the pseudoscalars are in very good agreement with data.

In this contribution, we present a new perspective on the control of quadratic divergences in quantum field theory, in general, and in the Higgs naturalness problem, in particular. Our discussion is essentially based on an approach where UV divergences are parameterized, after being reduced to basic divergent integrals (BDI) in one internal momentum, as functions of a cutoff and a renormalization group scale $λ$. We illustrate our proposal with well-known examples, such as the gluon vacuum self energy of QCD and the Higgs decay in two photons within this approach. We also discuss frameworks in effective low-energy QCD models, where quadratic divergences are indeed fundamental.

It is shown that a first order transition associated with a jump in the strange quark mass appears in a generalized 3 flavour Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) treatment of quark matter. The generalization of the Lagrangian displays the complete set of spin 0 interactions at leading and subleading orders (LO and NLO) in $\frac{1}{N_c}$counting, including the recently derived NLO explicit chiral symmetry breaking interactions which are of the same order as the 't Hooft flavour determinant. The parameters of the model are tightly constrained by the low energy characteristics in both the pseudoscalar and scalar meson sectors. The transition occurs in a moderate chemical potential region ($μ\simeq 400~\mathrm{MeV}$ for zero temperature) in addition to the usual chiral transition associated with the light quark sector. This feature has at its root the inclusion of the explicit chiral symmetry breaking interactions, which therefore can be seen to act as a catalyst in the production of strange quark matter when compared to the conventional version of the model that takes only into account the 't Hooft interaction in the NLO. It can be traced back to the effect of the interactions which do not violate the Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka rule (OZI), without which the empirical ordering of the scalars ($m_{K^\star}< m_{a_0}\approx m_{f_0}$) is not reproduced.

It is shown that flavor mixing of the strange and light quarks allows for existence of a much larger baryonic chemical potential window for the formation of a stable dual chiral-wave state as compared to the well known two flavor case. In addition, strangeness catalyzes the occurrence of a new branch of non-homogeneous solutions at moderate densities. This case study is addressed at zero temperature within the SU(3) flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with the 't Hooft determinantal flavor mixing interaction. The modulation of the chiral condensates in the light quark sector is taken to be one-dimensional, while strangeness is embedded as a homogeneous condensate in the spontaneously broken phase of chiral symmetry. A finite current quark mass for the strange quark is incorporated, while the up and down current masses are set to zero. In that case the modulation considered provides an exact analytic solution for the system. Despite the simplicity of the \textit{ansatz}, the emerging phase diagram displays a very rich structure.

In a long distance Lagrangian approach to the low lying meson phenomenology we present and discuss the most general spin zero multi-quark interaction vertices of non-derivative type which include a set of effective interactions proportional to the current quark masses, breaking explicitely the chiral SU(3)_L X SU(3)_R and U_A(1) symmetries. These vertices are of the sameorder in Nc counting as the 't Hooft flavor determinant interaction and the 8 quark interactions which extend the original leading in Nc four quark interaction Lagrangian of Nambu and Jona-Lasinio. The Nc assignements match the counting rules based on arguments set by the scale of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking. With path integral bosonization techniques which take appropriately into account the quark mass differences we derive the mesonic Lagrangian up to 3-point mesonic vertices. We demonstrate that explicit symmetry breaking effects in interactions are essential to obtain the correct empirical ordering and magnitude of the splitting of certain states such as m_K < m_eta for the pseudoscalars and m{kappa(800)} < m{a0(980)} m{f0(980)} in the scalar sector, and achieve total agreement with the empirical low lying meson mass spectra. With all parameters of the model fixed by the spectra we analyze further a bulk of two body decays at tree level of the bosonic Lagrangian: the strong decays of the scalars sigma->pi pi, f0->pi pi, kappa->pi K, a0(980)->pi eta, as well as the two photon decays of a0, f0 and sigma mesons and the anomalous decays of the pseudoscalars {pi,eta,eta'}-> 2 photons. Our results for the strong decays are within the current expectations and the pseudoscalar radiative decays are in very good agreement with data. The radiative decays of the scalars are smaller than the observed values for the f0 and the sigma, but reasonable for the a0. A detailed discussion accompanies all the results.

The $N_c$ classification scheme matches the counting rules based on arguments set by the scale of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking. Together with the leading in $N_c$ four quark Nambu-Jona-Lasinio Lagrangian and current quark mass matrix, the model is apt to account for the correct empirical ordering and magnitude of the splitting of states in the low lying mass spectra of spin zero mesons. The new terms turn out to be essential for the ordering $m_K < m_η$ in the pseudoscalar sector and $m_{κ_0} < m_{a_0}\sim m_{f0}$ for the scalars.

Arbitrary regularization dependent parameters in Quantum Field Theory are usually fixed on symmetry or phenomenology grounds. We verify that the quadratically divergent behavior responsible for the lack of naturalness in the Standard Model (SM) is intrinsically arbitrary and regularization dependent. While quadratic divergences are welcome for instance in effective models of low energy QCD, they pose a problem in the SM treated as an effective theory in the Higgs sector. Being the very existence of quadratic divergences a matter of debate, a plausible scenario is to search for a symmetry requirement that could fix the arbitrary coefficient of the leading quadratic behavior to the Higgs boson mass to zero. We show that this is possible employing consistency of scale symmetry breaking by quantum corrections. Besides eliminating a fine-tuning problem and restoring validity of perturbation theory, this requirement allows to construct bounds for the Higgs boson mass in terms of $δm^2/m^2_H$ (where $m_H$ is the renormalized Higgs mass and $δm^2$ is the 1-loop Higgs mass correction). Whereas $δm^2/m^2_H<1$ (perturbative regime) in this scenario allows the Higgs boson mass around the current accepted value, the inclusion of the quadratic divergence demands $δm^2/m^2_H$ arbitrarily large to reach that experimental value.

Abstract:
We suggest and discuss in detail a multi-quark three flavor Lagrangian of the Nambu -- Jona-Lasinio type, which includes a set of effective interactions proportional to the current quark masses. It is shown that within the dynamical chiral symmetry breaking regime, the masses of the pseudo Goldstone bosons and their chiral partners, members of the low lying scalar nonet, are in perfect agreement w…

It is shown that within the dynamical chiral symmetry breaking regime, the masses of the pseudo Goldstone bosons and their chiral partners, members of the low lying scalar nonet, are in perfect agreement with current phenomenological expectations. The role of the new interactions is analyzed.

We illustrate with examples that quantum symmetry breakings in perturbation theory are connected to breakdown of momentum routing invariance (MRI) in the loops of a Feynman diagram. We illustrate with examples that quantum symmetry breakings in perturbation theory are connected to breakdown of momentum routing invariance (MRI) in the loops of a Feynman diagram. We show that MRI is a necessary and sufficient condition to preserve abelian gauge symmetry at arbitrary loop order. We adopt the implicit regularization framework in which surface terms that are directly connected to momentum routing can be constructed to arbitrary loop order. The interplay between momentum routing invariance, surface terms and anomalies is discussed. We also illustrate that MRI is important to preserve supersymmetry. For theories with poor symmetry content, such as scalar field theories, MRI is shown to be important in the calculation of renormalization group functions.

Abstract:
The extension of the Nambu-Jona-Lasino Model with six and eight quark interactions to include the Polyakov loop is analysed. Several interesting features are determined to be an effect of the choice of the regularization procedure. The use of a Pauli-Villars covariant regularization enables a coherent and correct description of several quantities.
