Improved measurement of the branching fractions for $J/ψ\toγπ^0$, $γη$ and $γη^\prime$

Abstract: Using a data sample of $(1.0087\pm 0.0044)\times 10^{10}$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector, the decays of $J/ψ\toγπ^{0} (η, η^\prime)\toγγγ$ are studied. Newly measured branching fractions are $\mathcal{B}$$(J/ψ\toγπ^{0})$=$(3.34\pm 0.02\pm 0.09)\times 10^{-5}$, $\mathcal{B}$$(J/ψ\toγη)$=$(1.096\pm 0.001\pm0.019)\times 10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}$$(J/ψ\toγη^\prime)$=… ▽ More Using a data sample of $(1.0087\pm 0.0044)\times 10^{10}$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector, the decays of $J/ψ\toγπ^{0} (η, η^\prime)\toγγγ$ are studied. Abstract: We present a study of the process $e^{+}e^{-}\toηφ$ using data samples collected with the BESIII detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 15.03 fb$^{-1}$ at 23 center-of-mass energies from 3.773 to 4.600 GeV. Using a fully differential angular description of the final state particles, both the relative magnitude and phase information of the $Σ^{+}$ electromagnetic form factors in the timelike regio… ▽ More Based on data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the process $e^{+}e^{-} \to Σ^{+}\barΣ^{-}$ is studied at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}$ = 2.3960, 2.6454, and 2.9000 GeV. Using a fully differential angular description of the final state particles, both the relative magnitude and phase information of the $Σ^{+}$ electromagnetic form factors in the timelike region are extracted. The relative phase between the electric and magnetic form factors is determined to be $\sinΔΦ$ = -0.67~$\pm$~0.29~(stat)~$\pm$~0.18~(syst) at $\sqrt{s}$ = 2.3960 GeV, $ΔΦ$ = 55$^{\circ}$~$\pm$~19$^{\circ}$~(stat) $\pm$~14$^{\circ}$~(syst) at $\sqrt{s}$ = 2.6454 GeV, and 78$^{\circ}$~$\pm$~22$^{\circ}$~(stat) $\pm$~9$^{\circ}$~(syst) at $\sqrt{s}$ = 2.9000 GeV. For the first time, the phase of the hyperon electromagnetic form factors is explored in a wide range of four-momentum transfer. Observation of the decay $J/ψ\to e^+ e^- η(1405)$ with $η(1405) \to π^0 f_0(980)$

Based on this, the product of the $D_s^+$ decay constant $f_{D_s^+}$ and the magnitude of the $c\to s$ quark mixing matrix element $|V_{cs}|$ is determined to be $f_{D_s^+}|V_{cs}|=241.8\pm2.5_{\rm stat}\pm2.2_{\rm syst}~\mathrm{MeV}$. Using the value of $|V_{cs}|$ given by the global standard model fit, $f_{D_s^+}$ is found to be $248.4\pm2.5_{\rm stat}\pm2.2_{\rm syst}$\,MeV. Abstract: By analyzing 7.33 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector, we report the observation of the semileptonic decay $D^+_s\to η^\prime μ^+ν_μ$, with a statistical significance larger than 10$σ$, and the measurements of the $D_s^+ \to ημ^+ν_μ$ and $D_s^+ \to η^\primeμ^+ν_μ$ decay dynamics for the first time. The br… ▽ More By analyzing 7.33 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector, we report the observation of the semileptonic decay $D^+_s\to η^\prime μ^+ν_μ$, with a statistical significance larger than 10$σ$, and the measurements of the $D_s^+ \to ημ^+ν_μ$ and $D_s^+ \to η^\primeμ^+ν_μ$ decay dynamics for the first time. The branching fractions of $D_s^+ \to ημ^+ν_μ$ and $D_s^+ \to η^\primeμ^+ν_μ$ are determined to be $(2.235\pm0.051_{\rm stat}\pm0.052_{\rm syst})\%$ and $(0.801\pm0.055_{\rm stat}\pm0.028_{\rm syst})\%$, respectively, with precision improved by factors of 6.0 and 6.6 compared to the previous best measurements. Combined with the results for the decays $D_s^+ \to ηe^+ν_e$ and $D_s^+ \to η^\prime e^+ν_e$, the ratios of the decay widths are examined both inclusively and in several $\ell^+ν_\ell$ four-momentum transfer ranges. No evidence for lepton flavor universality violation is found within the current statistics. The products of the hadronic form factors $f_{+,0}^{η^{(\prime)}}(0)$ and the $c\to s$ Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cs}|$ are determined. The results based on the two-parameter series expansion are $f^η_{+,0}(0)|V_{cs}| = 0.452\pm0.010_{\rm stat}\pm0.007_{\rm syst}$ and $f^{η^{\prime}}_{+,0}(0)|V_{cs}| = 0.504\pm0.037_{\rm stat}\pm0.012_{\rm syst}$, which help to constrain present models on $f_{+,0}^{η^{(\prime)}}(0)$. The forward-backward asymmetries are determined to be $\langle A_{\rm FB}^η\rangle=-0.059\pm0.031_{\rm stat}\pm0.005_{\rm syst}$ and $\langle A_{\rm FB}^{η^\prime}\rangle=-0.064\pm0.079_{\rm stat}\pm0.006_{\rm syst}$ for the first time, which are consistent with the theoretical calculation. △ Less

The cross sections are of the order of a few picobarn, and decrease as the center-of-mass energy increases as $s^{-n/2}$ with $n=4.35\pm 0.14$. First Observation of a Three-Resonance Structure in $e^+e^-\rightarrow$Nonopen Charm Hadrons

Abstract: We report the measurement of the inclusive cross sections for $e^+e^-$$\rightarrow$nOCH (where nOCH denotes non-open charm hadrons) with improved precision at center-of-mass (c.m.) energies from 3.645 to 3.871 GeV. We observe three resonances: $\mathcal R(3760)$, $\mathcal R(3780)$, and $\mathcal R(3810)$ with significances of $8.1σ$, $13.7σ$, and $8.8σ$, respectively. The $\mathcal R(3810)$ state… ▽ More We report the measurement of the inclusive cross sections for $e^+e^-$$\rightarrow$nOCH (where nOCH denotes non-open charm hadrons) with improved precision at center-of-mass (c.m.) energies from 3.645 to 3.871 GeV. We observe three resonances: $\mathcal R(3760)$, $\mathcal R(3780)$, and $\mathcal R(3810)$ with significances of $8.1σ$, $13.7σ$, and $8.8σ$, respectively. The $\mathcal R(3810)$ state is observed for the first time, while the $\mathcal R(3760)$ and $\mathcal R(3780)$ states are observed for the first time in the nOCH cross sections. Two sets of resonance parameters describe the energy-dependent line shape of the cross sections well. In set I [set II], the $\mathcal R(3810)$ state has mass $(3805.7 \pm 1.1 \pm 2.7)$ [$(3805.7 \pm 1.1 \pm 2.7)$] MeV/$c^2$, total width $(11.6 \pm 2.9 \pm 1.9)$ [$(11.5 \pm 2.8 \pm 1.9)$] MeV, and an electronic width multiplied by the nOCH decay branching fraction of $(10.9\pm 3.8\pm 2.5)$ [$(11.0\pm 3.4\pm 2.5)$] eV. In addition, we measure the branching fractions ${\mathcal B}[{\mathcal R}(3760)$$\rightarrow$nOCH$]=(25.2 \pm 16.1 \pm 30.4)\% [(6.4 \pm 4.8 \pm 7.7)\%]$ and ${\mathcal B}[\mathcal R(3780)$$\rightarrow$nOCH$]=(12.3 \pm 6.6 \pm 8.3)\% [(10.4 \pm 4.8 \pm 7.0)\%]$ for the first time. The $\mathcal R(3760)$ state can be interpreted as an open-charm (OC) molecular state, but containing a simple four-quark state component. The branching fractions of $Λ_{c}^{+}\to pη$ and $Λ_{c}^{+}\to pω$ are determined to be $(1.57\pm0.11_{\rm {stat}}\pm0.04_{\rm{syst}})\times10^{-3}$ and $(1.11\pm0.20_{\rm{stat}}\pm0.07_{\rm{syst}})\times10^{-3}$, with a statistical significance of greater than 10 $σ$ and 5.7 $σ$, respectively. In addition, no oscillatory behavior is discerned in the $|G_{\mathrm{eff}}|$ energy-dependence of $Λ_{c}^{+}$, in contrast to what is seen for the proton and neutron cases. Analyzing the cross section together with the polar-angle distribution of the $Λ_{c}^{+}$ baryon at each energy point, the moduli of electric and magnetic form factors ($|G_{E}|$ and $|G_{M}|$) are extracted and separated. Abstract: The $D^+_s\to K^+K^-μ^+ν_μ$ decay is studied based on 7.33 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies in the range from 4.128 to 4.226 GeV. The absolute branching fraction is measured as ${\mathcal B}(D^+_s\to φμ^+ν_μ) = (2.25\pm 0.09 \pm 0.07) \times10^{-2}$, the most precise measurement to date. Combining with the world average of… ▽ More The $D^+_s\to K^+K^-μ^+ν_μ$ decay is studied based on 7.33 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies in the range from 4.128 to 4.226 GeV. The absolute branching fraction is measured as ${\mathcal B}(D^+_s\to φμ^+ν_μ) = (2.25\pm 0.09 \pm 0.07) \times10^{-2}$, the most precise measurement to date. Combining with the world average of ${\mathcal B}(D^+_s\to φe^+ν_e)$, the ratio of the branching fractions obtained is$\frac{{\mathcal B}(D^+_s\to φμ^+ν_μ)}{{\mathcal B}(D^+_s\to φe^+ν_e)} = 0.94\pm0.08$, in agreement with lepton universality. By performing a partial wave analysis, the hadronic form factor ratios at $q^{2}=0$ are extracted, finding $r_{V}=\frac{V(0)}{A_{1}(0)}=1.58\pm0.17\pm0.02$ and $r_{2}=\frac{A_{2}(0)}{A_{1}(0)}=0.71\pm0.14\pm0.02$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. No significant $S$-wave contribution from $f_0(980)\to K^+K^-$ is found. The upper limit $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\to f_0(980)μ^{+}ν_μ) \cdot{\mathcal B}(f_0(980)\to K^+K^-) < 5.45 \times 10^{-4}$ is set at 90\% confidence level. △ Less

Combining these results with the $\mathcal{B}(D^+\toηe^+ ν_e)$ and $\mathcal{B}(D^+\toη^\prime e^+ ν_e)$ obtained from previous BESIII measurements, the $η-η^\prime$ mixing angle in the quark flavor basis is determined to be $φ_{\rm P} = (40.0\pm2.0_{\rm stat}\pm0.6_{\rm syst})^\circ$. Moreover, from the fits to the partial decay rates of $D_s^+ \to ηe^+ ν_e$ and $D_s^+ \to η^\prime e^+ ν_e$, the products of the hadronic transition form factors $f_+^{η^{(\prime)}}(0)$ and the modulus of the $c\to s$ Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cs}|$ are determined by using different hadronic transition form factor parametrizations. Based on the two-parameter series expansion, the products $f^η_+(0)|V_{cs}| = 0.4519\pm0.0071_{\rm stat}\pm0.0065_{\rm syst}$ and $f^{η^\prime}_+(0)|V_{cs}| = 0.525\pm0.024_{\rm stat}\pm0.009_{\rm syst}$ are extracted. All results determined in this work supersede those measured in the previous BESIII analyses based on the 3.19 fb$^{-1}$ subsample of data at 4.178 GeV. △ Less

Improving Long Context Document-Level Machine Translation

Many works have been published on the topic of document-level NMT, but most restrict the system to only local context, typically including just the one or two preceding sentences as additional information. This might be enough to resolve some ambiguous inputs, but it is probably not sufficient to capture some document-level information like the topic or style of a conversation. When increasing the context size beyond just the local context, there are two challenges: (i) the~memory usage increases exponentially (ii) the translation performance starts to degrade. We argue that the widely-used attention mechanism is responsible for both issues. Therefore, we propose a constrained attention variant that focuses the attention on the most relevant parts of the sequence, while simultaneously reducing the memory consumption. For evaluation, we utilize targeted test sets in combination with novel evaluation techniques to analyze the translations in regards to specific discourse-related phenomena. We find that our approach is a good compromise between sentence-level NMT vs attending to the full context, especially in low resource scenarios. △ Less

On Search Strategies for Document-Level Neural Machine Translation

There are many works on document-level NMT, mostly focusing on modifying the model architecture or training strategy to better accommodate the additional context-input. On the other hand, in most works, the question on how to perform search with the trained model is scarcely discussed, sometimes not mentioned at all. In this work, we aim to answer the question how to best utilize a context-aware translation model in decoding. We start with the most popular document-level NMT approach and compare different decoding schemes, some from the literature and others proposed by us. In the comparison, we are using both, standard automatic metrics, as well as specific linguistic phenomena on three standard document-level translation benchmarks. We find that most commonly used decoding strategies perform similar to each other and that higher quality context information has the potential to further improve the translation. △ Less

It has been shown that an external language model, trained on additional target-side monolingual data, can help improve translation quality. However, there has always been the assumption that the translation model also learns an implicit target-side language model during training, which interferes with the external language model at decoding time. Recently, some works on automatic speech recognition have demonstrated that, if the implicit language model is neutralized in decoding, further improvements can be gained when integrating an external language model. In this work, we transfer this concept to the task of machine translation and compare with the most prominent way of including additional monolingual data - namely back-translation. We find that accounting for the implicit language model significantly boosts the performance of language model fusion, although this approach is still outperformed by back-translation. △ Less

The branching fraction of the decay is measured to be $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\rightarrow Λμ^+ν_μ)=(3.48\pm0.14_{\rm stat.}\pm0.10_{\rm syst.})\%$, three times more precise than the prior world average result. Tests of lepton flavor universality using $Λ_c^+\rightarrow Λ\ell^+ν_{\ell}$ ($\ell=e, μ$) decays are reported for the first time, based on measurements of the differential decay rates and the forward-backward asymmetries in separate four-momentum transfer regions. The results are compatible with Standard Model predictions. Production of nuclei and hypernuclei in pion-induced reactions near threshold energies

Abstract: The Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics model is employed to simulate $π^-+\mathrm{C}$ and $π^-+\mathrm{W}$ collisions at p$_\mathrm{lab}=1.7$ GeV motivated by the recent HADES results. The resulting multiplicities suggest that the pion beam experiment can produce a substantial amount of ${}^{3}_Λ$H, especially in $π^-+\mathrm{W}$ collisions due to the stop** of the $Λ$ inside the large tungsten nucleus. The findings are supplemented by a statistical multi-fragmentation analysis suggesting that even larger hyper-fragments are produced copiously. It is suggested that even double strange hypernuclei are in reach and might be studied in more detail using a slightly higher pion beam momentum. △ Less

The simultaneously determined decay parameters allow the first precision $C\!P$ symmetry test for any hyperon decay with a neutron in the final state with the measurement of $A_{C\!P}=(α_{+}+\barα_{-})/(α_{+}-\barα_{-})=-0.080\pm0.052_{\rm stat}\pm0.028_{\rm syst}$. Assuming $C\!P$ conservation, the average decay parameter is determined as $\left< α_{+}\right>=(α_{+}- \barα_{-})/2 = -0.0506\pm0.0026_{\rm stat}\pm0.0019_{\rm syst}$, while the ratios $α_{+}/α_{0}$ and $\barα_{-}/\barα_{0}$ are $-0.0490\pm0.0032_{\rm stat}\pm0.0021_{\rm syst}$ and $-0.0571\pm0.0053_{\rm stat}\pm0.0032_{\rm syst}$, where $α_{0}$ and $\barα_{0}$ are the decay parameters of the decays $Σ^{+} \to p π^{0}$ and $\barΣ^{-} \to \bar{p} π^{0}$, respectively. △ Less

The branching fraction of ${D_s^{*+}\to e^+ν_e}$ is measured to be $(2.1{^{+1.2}_{-0.9}}_{\rm stat.}\pm0.2_{\rm syst.})\times 10^{-5}$, corresponding to an upper limit of $4.0\times10^{-5}$ at the 90\% confidence level. Taking the total width of the $D_s^{*+}$~(($0.070\pm0.028$) keV) predicted by lattice quantum chromodynamics as input, the decay constant of the $D^{*+}_s$ is determined to be $f_{D_s^{*+}}=(213.6{^{+61.0}_{-45.8}}_{\rm stat.}\pm43.9_{\rm syst.})$ MeV, corresponding to an upper limit of 353.8 MeV at the 90\% confidence level. △ Less

Abstract: Based on 4.5 fb$^{-1}$ data taken at seven center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.600 to 4.699 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the branching fractions of $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrowΣ^{+}+hadrons$ relative to $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrow Σ^+ π^+ π^-$. Combining with the world average branching fraction of $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrow Σ^+ π^+ π^-$, their branching fractions are measured… ▽ More Based on 4.5 fb$^{-1}$ data taken at seven center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.600 to 4.699 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the branching fractions of $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrowΣ^{+}+hadrons$ relative to $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrow Σ^+ π^+ π^-$. Combining with the world average branching fraction of $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrow Σ^+ π^+ π^-$, their branching fractions are measured to be $(0.377\pm0.042\pm0.018\pm0.021)\%$ for $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrowΣ^{+} K^{+} K^{-}$, $(0.200\pm0.023\pm0.010\pm0.011)\%$ for $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrowΣ^{+} K^{+} π^{-}$, $(0.414\pm0.080\pm0.029\pm0.023)\%$ for $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrowΣ^{+}φ$ and $(0.197\pm0.036\pm0.008\pm0.011)\%$ for $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrowΣ^{+}K^{+} K^{-}$(non-$φ$). In all the above results, the first uncertainties are statistical, the second are systematic and the third are from external input of the branching fraction of $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrow Σ^+ π^+ π^-$. Abstract: This paper reports the study of $D_s^+\to τ^+ν$ via $τ^+\toπ^+\barν_τ$ using a boosted decision tree method, with $7.33$ fb$^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data collected by the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between $4.128$ and $4.226$~GeV. The branching fraction of $D_s^+\to τ^+ν_τ$ is determined to be $(5.44\pm0.17_{\rm stat}\pm0.13_{\rm syst})\%$. The product of the $D_s^+$ decay constant $f_{D_s^+}$ and the CKM matrix element $|V_{cs}|$ is $f_{D_s^+}|V_{cs}| = (248.3\pm3.9_{\rm stat}\pm3.1_{\rm syst}\pm1.0_{\rm input})~\mathrm{MeV}$. Combining with the $|V_{cs}|$ value obtained from the Standard Model global fit or the $f_{D_s^+}$ from the lattice quantum chromodynamics, we determine $|V_{cs}| = 0.993\pm0.015_{\rm stat}\pm0.012_{\rm syst}\pm0.004_{\rm input}$ and $f_{D_s^+} = (255.0\pm4.0_{\rm stat}\pm3.2_{\rm syst}\pm1.0_{\rm input})~\text{MeV}$. The first uncertainty is statistical, the second one is systematic and the third one is due to the input parameters, mainly the lifetime of $D_s^+$. Combining this branching fraction with the world averages of the measurements of the masses of $τ^+$ and $D_s^+$ as well as the lifetime of $D_s^+$, we extract the product of the decay constant of $D_s^+$ and the $c\to s$ Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element to be $f_{D_s^+}|V_{cs}|=(246.2\pm3.7_{\rm stat}\pm2.5_{\rm syst})~\mathrm{MeV}$. Taking $|V_{cs}|$ from a global fit in the standard model we obtain $f_{D_s^+}=(252.7\pm3.8_{\rm stat}\pm2.6_{\rm syst})$ MeV. Abstract: By analyzing 2.93 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data taken at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, the branching fractions of the inclusive decays $D^+\to K^0_S X$ and $D^0\to K^0_S X$ are measured to be $(32.78\pm 0.13\pm 0.27)\%$ and $(20.54\pm 0.12\pm 0.18)\%$, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. Its decay asymmetry parameter is determined to be $-0.652 \pm 0.056_{\rm stat.}\pm 0.020_{\rm syst.}$. First simultaneous measurement of $Ξ^0$ and $\barΞ^0$ asymmetry parameters in $ψ(3686)$ decay

Abstract: The $Ξ^0$ asymmetry parameters are measured using entangled quantum $Ξ^0$-$\barΞ^0$ pairs from a sample of $(448.1 \pm 2.9) \times 10^6$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII. In addition, the $CP$ asymmetry observables are determined to be $A^{Ξ^0}_{CP} = (α_{Ξ^0} + α_{\barΞ^0})/(α_{Ξ^0} - α_{\barΞ^0})$ $= -0.007$ $\pm$ 0.082 $\pm$ 0.025 and $Δφ^{Ξ^0}_{CP} = (φ_{Ξ^0} + φ_{\barΞ^0})/2$ $= -0.079$ $\pm$ 0.082 $\pm$ 0.010 rad, which are consistent with $CP$ conservation. △ Less

The matrix elements for both channels are in reasonable agreement with previo… ▽ More A precision measurement of the matrix elements for $η\toπ^+π^-π^0$ and $η\toπ^0π^0π^0$ decays is performed using a sample of $(10087\pm44)\times10^6$ $J/ψ$ decays collected with the BESIII detector. The decay $J/ψ\to γη$ is used to select clean samples of 631,686 $η\toπ^+π^-π^0$ decays and 272,322 $η\toπ^0π^0π^0$ decays. The matrix elements for both channels are in reasonable agreement with previous measurements. The non-zero $gX^2Y$ term for the decay mode $η\toπ^+π^-π^0$ is confirmed, as reported by the KLOE Collaboration, while the other higher-order terms are found to be insignificant. Dalitz plot asymmetries in the $η\toπ^+π^-π^0$ decay are also explored and are found to be consistent with charge conjugation invariance. In addition, a cusp effect is investigated in the $η\toπ^0π^0π^0$ decay, and no obvious structure around the $π^+π^-$ mass threshold is observed. △ Less
