Abstract:
The $τ^- \to π^-ην_τ$ decay is forbidden in the Standard Model in the limit of exact $G$-parity, it becomes a rare decay due to isospin symmetry breaking and it is very sensitive to the effects of effective scalar interactions. Since the parameters driving isospin breaking, $(m_d-m_u)/(m_s-\bar{m})$ and $α$, are of the same order, one may expect their $G$-parity breaking effects in this decay can…

The $τ^- \to π^-ην_τ$ decay is forbidden in the Standard Model in the limit of exact $G$-parity, it becomes a rare decay due to isospin symmetry breaking and it is very sensitive to the effects of effective scalar interactions. Since the parameters driving isospin breaking, $(m_d-m_u)/(m_s-\bar{m})$ and $α$, are of the same order, one may expect their $G$-parity breaking effects in this decay can be of similar magnitudes. In this work, we evaluate the effects of isospin-breaking amplitudes originated from a virtual photon at one-loop in a resonance dominance model to describe photon-hadron interactions. We find that these effects can shift the leading SM predictions based on the $u-d$ quark mass difference by roughly $12\%$, and should be taken into consideration in a precision comparison of theory and experiment in order to draw meaningful conclusions on New Physics. The effects in the rate of the analogous $τ^- \to π^-η'ν_τ$ decay can be larger ($\sim$ $78\%$), under the approximations assumed in this model.

We focus on the correlation between the current limits from the search of the $μ\to eγ$ lepton flavor violating decay and the non-standard effects associated with the presence of new heavy neutrino states. Unlike what we would expect from an inverse seesaw model, we present a structure for the neutrinos mass matrices in which the rates of charged lepton flavor-violating processes are negligible. While neutrinoless nuclear double beta decays are the most promising tool to look for di-electron signals of $ΔL=2$, searches of di-lepton channels with other flavors are far less limited by statistics. We revisit the calculation of $ΔL=2$ decays of hyperons $B^-_i\to B^+_f\ell^-\ell'^-$. We compute the rates of these decays by including the hyperon form factors, which yields finite results in the one-loop model mechanism involving Majorana neutrinos (long-range contributions). In addition, we study the short-range contributions to these kinds of processes in two appealing scenarios. First, we consider the effects of heavy Majorana neutrinos in low-scale seesaw models that involve a minimal parametrization with only two heavy Majorana states. Second, we study an alternative model where $ΔL=2$ decays are induced by a scalar boson coupled to di-leptons to provide additional predictions.

Here we study the possibility to detect a neutrino interaction in down-going atmospheric events at km$^3$ telescopes. The neutrino signal will always appear together with a muon bundle that reveals its atmospheric origin and, generically, it implies an increase in the detector activity with the slant depth. We propose a simple algorithm that could separate these events from regular muon bundles.

Here we revisit these Higgs decays in the most generic extension of the neutrino sector, focusing on large values of $y_{i}$. We show that decoupling effects and a cancellation between the two dominant contributions to these processes makes the amplitude about one hundred times smaller than anticipated. We find that perturbative values of $y_{i}$ giving an acceptable contribution to the $ρ$ parameter imply ${\cal B}(H^0\to \bar{\ell}_i\ell_j)<10^{-8}$ for any lepton flavors, a rate that is not accessible at current colliders.

In contrast with the prediction in \cite{Pham:1998fq}, our results are strongly suppressed and in good agreement with the approximation done in ref.~\cite{Petcov:1976ff}, where masses and momenta of the external particles were neglected in order to deal with the loop integrals. However, as a result of kee** external momenta and masses in the computation of the dominant penguin and box diagrams- we even find slightly smaller branching fractions. Therefore, we confirm that any future observation of such processes would be an unambiguous manifestation of new physics beyond the Standard Model

The search for Flavons with a mass of $\mathcal{O}$(1) TeV at current and future colliders might probe low-scale flavor models. We are interested in the simplest model that invokes the Froggatt-Nielsen (FN) mechanism with an Abelian flavor symmetry, which includes a Higgs doublet and a FN complex singlet. Assuming a CP conserving scalar potential, there are a $CP$-even $H_F$ and a $CP$-odd $A_F$ Flavons with lepton flavor violating (LFV) couplings. The former can mix with the standard-model-like Higgs boson, thereby inducing tree-level LFV Higgs interactions that may be at the reach of the LHC. We study the constraints on the parameter space of the model from low-energy LFV processes, which are then used to evaluate the Flavon decay widths and the $gg\to φ\to τμ$ ($φ=H_F,\,A_F$) production cross section at hadron colliders. After imposing several kinematic cuts to reduce the SM main background, we find that for $m_{H_F}$ about 200-350 GeV, the decay $H_F \to τμ$ might be at the reach of the LHC for a luminosity in the range 1-3 ab$^{-1}$, however, a luminosity of the order of 10 ab$^{-1}$ would be required to detect the $A_F \to τμ$ decay. On the other hand a future 100 TeV $pp$ collider could probe masses as high as $\mathcal{O}$(10) TeV if it reaches an integrated luminosity of at least 20 ab$^{-1}$. Therefore, the 100 TeV Collider could work as a Flavon factory.

The analytic expressions are presented in terms of both parametric integrals and Passarino-Veltman scalar functions. Among the new contributions, there are those arising from the vertices of the type $φ^\pm W^\mp Z$ and $Z φ_iφ_j$ ($i\ne j$), along with contributions from doubly charged scalar bosons. Both $a_τ$ and $d_τ^W$ are evaluated in several scenarios , first in a model independent way and then within some popular models, such as two-Higgs doublet models (THDMs), multiple-Higgs doublet models and Higgs triplet models. As far as $a_τ^W$ is concerned, its real part reaches values as high as $10^{-10}-10^{-9}$ for masses of the new scalar bosons in the 200 GeV range, whereas the imaginary part is one or two orders of magnitude below. On the other hand, the most promising scenario for a nonvanishing WEDM is offered by a $CP$-violating THDM in a scenario where the heavy neutral scalar bosons are a mixture of $CP$ eigenstates. It is found that the real part of $d_τ^W$ is of the order of $10^{-24}$ ecm and its imaginary part can reach the $10^{-26}$ ecm level for masses of the new scalar bosons of the order of a few hundred of GeVs. Both the tau AWMDM and WEDM decrease dramatically as the scalar boson masses increase.

We obtain analytical expressions, both in terms of parametric integrals and Passarino-Veltman scalar functions, for the one-loop contributions to the anomalous weak magnetic dipole moment (AWMDM) of a charged lepton in the framework of the simplest little Higgs model (SLHM). Our results are general and can be useful to compute the weak properties of a charged lepton in other extensions of the standard model (SM). As a by-product we obtain generic contributions to the anomalous magnetic dipole moment (AMDM), which agree with previous results. We then study numerically the potential contributions from this model to the $τ$ lepton AMDM and AWMDM for values of the parameter space consistent with current experimental data. It is found that they depend mainly on the energy scale $f$ at which the global symmetry is broken and the $t_β$ parameter, whereas there is little sensitivity to a mild change in the values of other parameters of the model. While the $τ$ AMDM is of the order of $10^{-9}$, the real (imaginary) part of its AWMDM is of the order of $10^{-9}$ ($10^{-10}$). These values seem to be out of the reach of the expected experimental sensitivity of future experiments.

General expressions for the one-loop contributions to $Δκ'_V$ and $ΔQ_V$ arising from neutral, singly and doubly charged scalar bosons are obtained in terms of both parametric integrals and Passarino-Veltman scalar functions, which can be numerically evaluated. It is found that the GMM yields 15 (28) distinct contributions to $Δκ'_γ$ and $ΔQ_γ$ ($Δκ'_Z$ and $ΔQ_Z$), though several of them are naturally suppressed. A numerical analysis is done in the region of parameter space still consistent with current experimental data and it is found that the largest contributions to $Δκ'_V$ arise from Feynman diagrams with two nondegenerate scalar bosons in the loop, with values of the order of $a=g^2/(96π^2)$ reached when there is a large splitting between the masses of these scalar bosons. As for $ΔQ_V$, it reaches values as large as $10^{-2}a$ for the lightest allowed scalar bosons, but it decreases rapidly as one of the masses of the scalar bosons becomes large. Among the new contributions of the GMM to the $Δκ'_V$ and $ΔQ_V$ form factors are those induced by the $H_5^\pm W^\mp Z$ vertex, which arises at the tree-level and is a unique prediction of this model.

We explore the possibility that the 750 GeV diphoton resonance recently reported at the LHC13, could be identified with a low-scale Higgs-flavon field $H_F$ and find the region of the parameter space consistent with CMS and ATLAS data. It is found that the extra vector-like fermions of the ultraviolet completion of the FN mechanism are necessary in order to reproduce the observed signal. We consider a standard model (SM) extension that contains two Higgs doublets (a standard one and an inert one) and one complex FN singlet. The inert doublet includes a stable neutral boson, which provides a viable dark matter candidate, while the mixing of the standard doublet and the FN singlet induces flavor violation in the Higgs sector at the tree-level. Constraints on the parameters of the model are derived from the LHC Higgs data, which include the search for the lepton flavor violating decay of the SM Higgs boson $h\to \barμτ$. It is also found that in some region of the parameter space the model may give rise to a large branching ratio for the $H_F \to hh$ decay, of the order of 0.1, which could be searched for at the LHC.

These models also predict new charged gauge and scalar bosons, together with three new quarks, which can be exotic (with electric charges of -4/3e and 5/3e) or standard model like. Apart from the contribution of the W boson, the $t\to cγ$ decay receives contributions induced by the extra gauge boson and the neutral scalar boson, which are generic for 331 models. In the so-called minimal 331 model, there are additional contributions from the new charged gauge and scalar bosons accompanied by the exotic quarks. We present analytical results for the most general $t-> cγ$ amplitude in terms of transcendental functions. For the numerical analysis we focus on the minimal 331 model: the current bounds on the model parameters are examined and a particular scenario is discussed in which the corresponding branching ratio could be of the order of 10^{-6}, with the dominant contributions arising from the charged gauge bosons and a relatively light neutral scalar boson with flavor-changing couplings, whereas the Z' contribution would be of the order of 10^{-9} for m_{Z'}>2 TeV. However, a further suppression could be expected due to a potential suppression of the values of the flavor-changing coupling constants. Under the same assumptions, in 331 models without exotic quarks, the $t-> cγ$ branching ratio would receive the dominant contribution from the neutral scalar boson, which could be of the order of 10^{-7} for a Higgs mass of a few hundreds of GeVs.
