We compute three families of two-loop six-point massless Feynman integrals in dimensional regularization, namely the double-box, the pentagon-triangle, and the hegaxon-bubble family. This constitutes the first analytic computation of two-loop master integrals with eight scales. We use the method of canonical differential equations. We describe the corresponding integral basis with uniform transcendentality, the relevant function alphabet, and analytic boundary values at a particular point in the Euclidean region up to the fourth order in the regularization parameter $ε$. The results are expressed as one-fold integrals over classical polylogarithms suitable for fast and high-precision evaluation.

The Amplituhedron provides, via geometric means, the all-loop integrand of scattering amplitudes in maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. Unfortunately, dimensional regularization, used conventionally for integration, breaks the beautiful geometric picture. This motivates us to propose a 'deformed' Amplituhedron. Focusing on the four-particle amplitude, we introduce two deformation parameters, which can be interpreted as particle masses. We provide evidence that the mass pattern corresponds to a specific choice of vacuum expectation values on the Coulomb branch. The deformed amplitude is infrared finite, making the answer well-defined in four dimensions. Leveraging four-dimensional integration techniques based on differential equations, we compute the amplitude up to two loops. In the limit where the deformation parameters are taken to zero, we recover the known Bern-Dixon-Smirnov amplitude. In the limit where only one deformation parameter is taken to zero, we find a connection to the angle-dependent cusp anomalous dimension.

The general structure of infrared divergences in the scattering of massive particles is captured by the soft anomalous dimension matrix. The latter can be computed from a correlation function of multiple Wilson lines. The state-of-the-art two-loop result has a tantalizingly simple structure that is not manifest in the calculations. We argue that the complexity in intermediate steps of the known calculations comes from spurious, regulator-dependent terms. Based on this insight we propose a different infrared regulator that is associated to only one of the Wilson lines. We demonstrate that this streamlines obtaining the two-loop result: computing the required Feynman integrals via the differential equations method, only multiple polylogarithmic functions appear (to all orders in the dimensional regulator), as opposed to elliptic polylogarithms. We show that the new method is promising for higher-loop applications by computing a three-loop diagram of genuine complexity, and provide the answer in terms of multiple polylogarithms. The relatively simple symbol alphabet we obtain may be of interest for bootstrap approaches.

A detailed interpretation of scanning tunneling spectra obtained on unconventional superconductors enables one to gain information on the pairing boson. Decisive for this approach are inelastic tunneling events. Due to the lack of momentum conservation in tunneling from or to the sharp tip, those are enhanced in the geometry of a scanning tunneling microscope compared to planar tunnel junctions. This work extends the method of obtaining the bosonic excitation spectrum by deconvolution from tunneling spectra to nodal $d$-wave superconductors. In particular, scanning tunneling spectra of slightly underdoped $\mathrm{Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+δ}}$ with a $T_c$ of $82\,\mathrm{K}$ and optimally doped $\mathrm{YBa_2Cu_3O_{6+x}}$ with a $T_c$ of $92\,\mathrm{K}$ reveal a resonance mode in their bosonic excitation spectrum at $Ω_\mathrm{res} \approx 63\,\mathrm{meV}$ and $Ω_\mathrm{res} \approx 61\,\mathrm{meV}$ respectively. In both cases, the overall shape of the bosonic excitation spectrum is indicative of predominant spin scattering with a resonant mode at $Ω_\mathrm{res}<2Δ$ and overdamped spin fluctuations for energies larger than $2Δ$. To perform the deconvolution of the experimental data, we implemented an efficient iterative algorithm that significantly enhances the reliability of our analysis.

We study, in the context of the three-dimensional ${\cal N}=6$ Chern-Simons-matter (ABJM) theory, the infrared-finite functions that result from performing $L-1$ loop integrations over the $L$-loop integrand of the logarithm of the four-particle scattering amplitude. Our starting point are the integrands obtained from the recently proposed all-loop projected amplituhedron for the ABJM theory. Organizing them in terms of negative geometries ensures that no divergences occur upon integration if at least one loop variable is left unintegrated. We explicitly perform the integrations up to $L=3$, finding both parity-even and -odd terms. Moreover, we discuss a prescription to compute the cusp anomalous dimension $Γ_{\rm cusp}$ of ABJM in terms of the integrated negative geometries, and we use it to reproduce the first non-trivial order of $Γ_{\rm cusp}$. Finally, we show that the leading singularities that characterize the integrated results are conformally invariant.

Recently, progress has been made in understanding the precise canonical form for Feynman integrals involving elliptic polylogarithms. In this article, we make use of an algorithmic approach that proves powerful to find canonical forms for these cases. To illustrate the method, we reproduce several known canonical forms from the literature and present examples where a canonical form is deduced for the first time. Null Wilson loops in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills are dual to planar scattering amplitudes. This duality implies hidden symmetries for both objects. We consider closely related infrared finite observables, defined as the Wilson loop with a Lagrangian insertion, normalized by the Wilson loop itself. Unlike ratio and remainder functions studied in the literature, this observable is non-trivial already for four scattered particles and bears close resemblance to (finite parts of) scattering processes in non-supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. We study the general structure of the Wilson loop with a Lagrangian insertion, focusing in particular on its leading singularities and their (hidden) symmetry properties. We find evidence that the leading singularities can be written as certain Grassmannian integrals. The latter are manifestly dual conformal. They also have a conformal symmetry, up to total derivatives. We find that, surprisingly, the conformal symmetry becomes an invariance in the frame where the Lagrangian insertion point is sent to infinity. Furthermore, we use integrability methods to study how higher Yangian charges act on the Grassmannian integral. We evaluate the $n$-particle observable both at tree- and at one-loop level, finding compact analytic formulas. These results are explicitly written in the form of conformal leading singularities, multiplied by transcendental functions. We then compare these formulas to known expressions for all-plus amplitudes in pure Yang-Mills theory. We find a remarkable new connection: the Wilson loop with Lagrangian insertion in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills appears to predict the maximal weight terms of the planar pure Yang-Mills all-plus amplitude. We test this relationship for the two-loop $n$-point Yang-Mills amplitude, as well as for the three-loop four-point amplitude.

Feynman integrals in quantum field theory evaluate to special functions and numbers that are usefully described by the notion of transcendental weight. In this paper, we propose a way of projecting a given dimensionally-regularised Feynman integral, for example contributing to a scattering amplitudes, onto its maximal weight part. The method uses insights into the singularity structure of space-time loop integrands, and is complementary to usual generalised unitarity approaches. We describe the method and give a proof-of-principle application to the two-loop scattering amplitudes $gg \to H$ in the heavy top-quark mass limit, which involves both planar and non-planar Feynman integrals. We also comment on further possible applications and discuss subtleties related to evanescent integrand terms.

We initiate the study of cluster algebras in Feynman integrals in dimensional regularization. We provide evidence that four-point Feynman integrals with one off-shell leg are described by a $C_{2}$ cluster algebra, and we find cluster adjacency relations that restrict the allowed function space. By embedding $C_{2}$ inside the $A_3$ cluster algebra, we identify these adjacencies with the extended Steinmann relations for six-particle massless scattering. The cluster algebra connection we find restricts the functions space for vector boson or Higgs plus jet amplitudes, and for form factors recently considered in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills. We explain general procedures for studying relationships between alphabets of generalized polylogarithmic functions and cluster algebras, and use them to provide various identifications of one-loop alphabets with cluster algebras. In particular, we show how one can obtain one-loop alphabets for five-particle scattering from a recently discussed dual conformal eight-particle alphabet related to the $G(4,8)$ cluster algebra.

The angle-dependent cusp anomalous dimension governs divergences coming from soft gluon exchanges between heavy particles, such as top quarks. We focus on the matter-dependent contributions and compute the first truly non-planar terms. They appear at four loops and are proportional to a quartic Casimir operator in color space. Specializing our general gauge theory result to U(1), we obtain the full QED four-loop angle-dependent cusp anomalous dimension. While more complicated functions appear at intermediate steps, the analytic answer depends only on multiple polylogarithms with singularities at fourth roots of unity. It can be written in terms of four rational structures, and contains functions of up to maximal transcendental weight seven. Despite this complexity, we find that numerically the answer is tantalizingly close to the appropriately rescaled one-loop formula, over most of the kinematic range. We take several limits of our analytic result, which serves as a check and allows us to obtain new, power-suppressed terms. In the anti-parallel lines limit, which corresponds to production of two massive particles at threshold, we find that the subleading power correction vanishes. Finally, we compute the quartic Casimir contribution for scalars in the loop. Taking into account a supersymmetric decomposition, we derive the first non-planar corrections to the quark anti-quark potential in maximally supersymmetric gauge theory.

The maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory (${\mathcal N}=4$ sYM) shares with QCD the gluon sector, which contains the most complicated Feynman graphs, but at the same time has many special properties, and is believed to be solvable exactly. It is natural to ask what we can learn from advances in ${\mathcal N}=4$ sYM for addressing difficult problems in QCD. With this in mind, we review here several remarkable developments and highlights of recent results in ${\mathcal N}=4$ sYM. This includes all-order results for certain scattering amplitudes, novel symmetries, surprising geometrical structures of loop integrands, novel tools for the calculation of Feynman integrals, and bootstrap methods. While several insights and tools have already been carried over to QCD and have contributed to state-of-the-art calculations for LHC physics, we argue that there is a host of further fascinating ideas waiting to be explored.

We present the results from four stellar occultations by (486958) Arrokoth, the flyby target of the New Horizons extended mission. Three of the four efforts led to positive detections of the body, and all constrained the presence of rings and other debris, finding none. Twenty-five mobile stations were deployed for 2017 June 3 and augmented by fixed telescopes. There were no positive detections from this effort. The event on 2017 July 10 was observed by SOFIA with one very short chord. Twenty-four deployed stations on 2017 July 17 resulted in five chords that clearly showed a complicated shape consistent with a contact binary with rough dimensions of 20 by 30 km for the overall outline. A visible albedo of 10% was derived from these data. Twenty-two systems were deployed for the fourth event on 2018 Aug 4 and resulted in two chords. The combination of the occultation data and the flyby results provides a significant refinement of the rotation period, now estimated to be 15.9380 $\pm$ 0.0005 hours. The occultation data also provided high-precision astrometric constraints on the position of the object that were crucial for supporting the navigation for the New Horizons flyby. This work demonstrates an effective method for obtaining detailed size and shape information and probing for rings and dust on distant Kuiper Belt objects as well as being an important source of positional data that can aid in spacecraft navigation that is particularly useful for small and distant bodies.

In maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, this ratio is a finite function of a cross-ratio and the coupling constant. We compute it to three loops, including the full colour dependence. Integrating over the position of the Lagrangian insertion gives the four-loop Wilson loop. We extract its leading divergence, which determines the four-loop cusp anomalous dimension. Finally, we employ a supersymmetric decomposition to derive the last missing ingredient in the corresponding QCD result.

These are relevant for the NNLO corrections to inclusive Higgs production and for the NLO corrections to Higgs production in association with a jet, in QCD. The computation of the integrals is performed with the method of differential equations. We provide a choice of basis for the polylogarithmic sectors, that puts the system of differential equations in canonical form. Solutions up to weight 2 are provided in terms of logarithms and dilogarithms, and 1-fold integral solutions are provided at weight 3 and 4. There are two elliptic sectors in the family, which are computed by solving their associated set of differential equations in terms of generalized power series. The resulting series may be truncated to obtain numerical results with high precision. The series solution renders the analytic continuation to the physical region straightforward. Moreover, we show how the series expansion method can be used to obtain accurate numerical results for all the master integrals of the family in all kinematic regions.

Our results display a remarkable degree of simplicity and represent an important step** stone in the exploration of the structure of scattering amplitudes. In particular, we observe that to this loop order the four graviton amplitude is given by uniform weight $2L$ functions, where $L$ is the loop order.

We compute the fermionic contributions to the cusp anomalous dimension in QCD at four loops as an expansion for small cusp angle. As a byproduct we also obtain the respective terms of the four-loop HQET wave function anomalous dimension. Our new results at small angles provide stringent tests of a recent conjecture for the exact angle dependence of the matter terms in the four-loop cusp anomalous dimension. We find that the conjecture does not hold for two of the seven fermionic color structures, but passes all tests for the remaining terms. This provides strong support for the validity of the corresponding conjectured expressions with full angle dependence. Taking the limit of large Minkowskian angle, we extract novel analytic results for certain terms of the light-like cusp anomalous dimension. They agree with the known numerical results. Finally, we study the anti-parallel lines limit of the cusp anomalous dimension. In a conformal theory, the latter is proportional to the static quark-antiquark potential. We use the new four-loop results to determine parts of the conformal anomaly term.

We compute for the first time the two-loop five-particle amplitude in $\mathcal{N}=8$ supergravity. Starting from the known integrand, we perform an integration-by-parts reduction and express the answer in terms of uniform weight master integrals. The latter are known to evaluate to non-planar pentagon functions, described by a 31-letter symbol alphabet. We express the final result for the amplitude in terms of uniform weight four symbols, multiplied by a small set of rational factors. The amplitude satisfies the expected factorization properties when one external graviton becomes soft, and when two external gravitons become collinear. We verify that the soft divergences of the amplitude exponentiate, and extract the finite remainder function. The latter depends on fewer rational factors, and is independent of one of the symbol letters. By analyzing identities involving rational factors and symbols we find a remarkably compact representation in terms of a single seed function, summed over all permutations of external particles. Finally, we work out the multi-Regge limit, and present explicitly the leading logarithmic terms in the limit. The full symbol of the IR-subtracted hard function is provided as an ancillary file.

We compute analytically the matter-dependent contributions to the quartic Casimir term of the four-loop light-like cusp anomalous dimension in QCD, with $n_f$ fermion and $n_s$ scalar flavours. The result is extracted from the double pole of a scalar form factor. We adopt a new strategy for the choice of master integrals with simple analytic and infrared properties, which significantly simplifies our calculation. To this end we first identify a set of integrals whose integrands have a dlog form, and are hence expected to have uniform transcendental weight. We then perform a systematic analysis of the soft and collinear regions of loop integration and build linear combinations of integrals with a simpler infrared pole structure. In this way, only integrals with ten or fewer propagators are needed for obtaining the cusp anomalous dimension. These integrals are then computed via the method of differential equations through the addition of an auxiliary scale. Combining our result with that of a parallel paper, we obtain the complete $n_{f}$ dependence of the four-loop cusp anomalous dimension in QCD. Finally, using known numerical results for the gluonic contributions, we obtain an improved numerical prediction for the cusp anomalous dimension in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory.

We evaluate analytically all previously unknown nonplanar master integrals for massless five-particle scattering at two loops, using the differential equations method. A canonical form of the differential equations is obtained by identifying integrals with constant leading singularities, in $D$ space-time dimensions. These integrals evaluate to $\mathbb{Q}$-linear combinations of multiple polylogarithms of uniform weight at each order in the expansion in the dimensional regularization parameter, and are in agreement with previous conjectures for nonplanar pentagon functions. Our results provide the complete set of two-loop Feynman integrals for any massless $2\to 3$ scattering process, thereby opening up a new level of precision collider phenomenology.

We initiate a systematic study of the consequences of (super)conformal symmetry of massless scattering amplitudes. The classical symmetry is potentially broken at the quantum level by infrared and ultraviolet effects. We study its manifestations on the finite hard part of the scattering process. The conformal Ward identities in momentum space are second-order differential equations, difficult to analyze. We prefer to study superconformal symmetry whose generators are first-order in the momenta. Working in a massless N=1 supersymmetric Wess-Zumino model, we derive on-shell superconformal Ward identities. They contain an anomaly due to collinear regions of loop momenta. It is given by an integral with one loop less than the original graph, with an extra integral over a collinear splitting parameter. We discuss the relation to the holomorphic anomaly that was previously studied in tree-level amplitudes and at the level of unitarity cuts. We derive and solve Ward identities for various scattering processes in the model. We classify the on-shell superamplitudes according to their Grassmann degree, in close analogy with the helicity classification of gluon amplitudes. We focus on MHV-like and NMHV-like amplitudes with up to six external particles, at one and two loops. Interestingly, the superconformal generator acting on the bosonic part of the amplitudes is Witten's twistor collinearity operator. We find that the first-order differential equations, together with physically motivated boundary conditions, uniquely fix the answer. All the cases considered give rise to uniform weight functions. Our most interesting example is a five-point non-planar hexa-box integral with an off-shell leg. It gives first indications on the function space needed for Higgs plus two jet production at next-to-next-to leading order.

We fix the boundary constants of the differential equations by exploiting constraints from the absence of unphysical singularities. The solution of the differential equations in the Euclidean region is expressed in terms of iterated integrals. We cross-check the latter against previously known results in the literature, as well as with independent Mellin-Barnes calculations.

Recently, Bern et al observed that a certain class of next-to-planar Feynman integrals possess a bonus symmetry that is closely related to dual conformal symmetry. It corresponds to a projection of the latter along a certain lightlike direction. Previous studies were performed at the level of the loop integrand, and a Ward identity for the integral was formulated. We investigate the implications of the symmetry at the level of the integrated quantities. In particular, we focus on the phenomenologically important case of five-particle scattering. The symmetry simplifies the four-variable problem to a three-variable one. In the context of the recently proposed space of pentagon functions, the symmetry is much stronger. We find that it drastically reduces the allowed function space, leading to a well-known space of three-variable functions. Furthermore, we show how to use the symmetry in the presence of infrared divergences, where one obtains an anomalous Ward identity. We verify that the Ward identity is satisfied by the leading and subleading poles of several nontrivial five-particle integrals. Finally, we present examples of integrals that possess both ordinary and dual conformal symmetry.

Beyond the leading power approximation, corrections to the eikonal picture have to be taken into account. In this paper, we study such corrections in a model of massive scattering amplitudes in N = 4 super Yang-Mills, in the planar limit, where the mass is generated through a Higgs mechanism. Using known three-loop analytic expressions for the scattering amplitude, we find that the first power suppressed term has a very simple form, equal to a single power law. We propose that its exponent is governed by the anomalous dimension of a Wilson loop with a scalar inserted at the cusp, and we provide perturbative evidence for this proposal. We also analyze other limits of the amplitude and conjecture an exact formula for a total cross-section at high energies.

These are relevant for the NNLO corrections to fully inclusive Higgs production and to the NLO corrections to Higgs production in association with a jet, in the full theory. The computation is performed using the differential equations method. Whenever possible, a basis of master integrals that are pure functions of uniform weight is used. The result is expressed in terms of one-fold integrals of polylogarithms and elementary functions up to transcendental weight four. Two integral sectors are expressed in terms of elliptic functions. We show that by introducing a one-dimensional parametrization of the integrals the relevant second order differential equation can be readily solved, and the solution can be expressed to all orders of the dimensional regularization parameter in terms of iterated integrals over elliptic kernels. We express the result for the elliptic sectors in terms of two and three-fold iterated integrals, which we find suitable for numerical evaluations. This is the first time that four-point multiscale Feynman integrals have been computed in a fully analytic way in terms of elliptic functions.

Our result is the first complete computation of a non-planar four-particle scattering amplitude to three loops in four-dimensional gauge theory and consequently provides highly non-trivial data for the study of non-planar scattering amplitudes. We present the amplitude as a Laurent expansion in the dimensional regulator to finite order, with coefficients composed of harmonic poly-logarithms of uniform transcendental weight, and simple rational prefactors. Our computation provides an independent check of a recent result for three-loop corrections to the soft anomalous dimension matrix that predicts the general infrared singularity structure of massless gauge theory scattering amplitudes. Taking the Regge limit of our result, we determine the three-loop gluon Regge trajectory. We also find agreement with very recent predictions for sub-leading logarithms.

The three-loop result in the latter theory is new and confirms a conjecture made in our previous paper. We study various physical limits of the cusp anomalous dimension and discuss its relation to the quark-antiquark potential including the effects of broken conformal symmetry in QCD. We find that the cusp anomalous dimension viewed as a function of the cusp angle and the new effective coupling given by light-like cusp anomalous dimension reveals a remarkable universality property -- it takes the same form in QCD and its supersymmetric extensions, to three loops at least. We exploit this universality property and make use of the known result for the three-loop quark-antiquark potential to predict the special class of nonplanar corrections to the cusp anomalous dimensions at four loops. Finally, we also discuss in detail the computation of all necessary Wilson line integrals up to three loops using the method of leading singularities and differential equations.

Over the last year significant progress was made in the understanding of the computation of Feynman integrals using differential equations. These lectures give a review of these developments, while not assuming any prior knowledge of the subject. After an introduction to differential equations for Feynman integrals, we point out how they can be simplified using algorithms available in the mathematical literature. We discuss how this is related to a recent conjecture for a canonical form of the equations. We also discuss a complementary approach that allows based on properties of the space-time loop integrands, and explain how the ideas of leading singularities and d-log representations can be used to find an optimal basis for the differential equations. Finally, as an application of the differential equations method we show how single-scale integrals can be bootstrapped using the Drinfeld associator of a differential equation.

Abstract:
We present the full analytic result for the three-loop angle-dependent cusp anomalous dimension in QCD. With this result, infrared divergences of planar scattering processes with massive particles can be predicted to that order. Moreover, we define a closely related quantity in terms of an effective coupling defined by the light-like cusp anomalous dimension. We find evidence that this quantity is…

We find evidence that this quantity is universal for any gauge theory, and use this observation to predict the non-planar $n_{f}$-dependent terms of the four-loop cusp anomalous dimension.

Abstract:
Knowledge of two-loop QCD amplitudes for processes $q\bar q \to V_1 V_2 \to (l_1\bar l'_1)(l_2 \bar l'_2)$ is important for improving the theoretical description of four-lepton production in hadron collisions. In this paper we compute these helicity amplitudes for all intermediate vector bosons, $V_1 V_2 = γ^*γ^*, WW, ZZ, WZ, W γ^*$, including off-shell effects and decays to leptons.

Solvable Relativistic Hydrogenlike System in Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theory
Authors:

Abstract:
The classical Kepler problem, as well as its quantum mechanical version, the Hydrogen atom, enjoy a well-known hidden symmetry, the conservation of the Laplace-Runge-Lenz vector, which makes these problems superintegrable. Is there a relativistic quantum field theory extension that preserves this symmetry? In this Letter we show that the answer is positive: in the non-relativistic limit, we identi…

In this Letter we show that the answer is positive: in the non-relativistic limit, we identify the dual conformal symmetry of planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills with the well-known symmetries of the Hydrogen atom. We point out that the dual conformal symmetry offers a novel way to compute the spectrum of bound states of massive $W$ bosons in the theory. We perform nontrivial tests of this setup at weak and strong coupling, and comment on the possible extension to arbitrary values of the coupling.

Remarkably, it is parametrized by the same simple functions appearing in analogous anomalous dimensions in ${\mathcal N}=4$ SYM at one and two loops. We also compute all required master integrals using a recently proposed refinement of the differential equation method. The analytic results are expressed in terms of harmonic polylogarithms of uniform weight.

We present the calculation of all non-planar master integrals that are needed to describe production of two off-shell vector bosons in collisions of two massless partons through NNLO in perturbative QCD. The integrals are computed analytically using differential equations in external kinematic variables and expressed in terms of Goncharov polylogarithms. These results provide the last missing ingredient needed for the computation of two-loop amplitudes that describe the production of two gauge bosons with different invariant masses in hadron collisions.
