Generation of tunable entanglement and violation of a Bell-like inequality between different degrees of freedom of a single photon
Abstract: We demonstrate a scheme to generate noncoherent and coherent correlations, i.e., a tunable degree of entanglement, between degrees of freedom of a single photon. Its nature is analogous to the tuning of the purity (first-order coherence) of a single photon forming part of a two-photon state by tailoring the correlations between the paired photons. Therefore, well-known tools such as the Clauser-Ho… ▽ More

Generation of polarization-entangled photon pairs in a Bragg reflection waveguide
Abstract: We demonstrate experimentally that spontaneous parametric down-conversion in an AlGaAs semiconductor Bragg reflection waveguide can make for paired photons highly entangled in the polarization degree of freedom at the telecommunication wavelength of 1550 nm. The pairs of photons show visibility higher than 90% in several polarization bases and violate a Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt Bell-like inequal… ▽ More

Bragg reflection waveguide as a source of wavelength-multiplexed polarization-entangled photon pairs
Abstract: We put forward a new highly efficient source of paired photons entangled in polarization with an ultra-large bandwidth. The photons are generated by means of a conveniently designed spontaneous parametric down-conversion process in a semiconductor type-II Bragg reflection waveguide. The proposed scheme aims at being a key element of an integrated source of polarization-entangled photon pairs highl… ▽ More

Experimental estimation of the dimension of classical and quantum systems
Abstract: An overwhelming majority of experiments in classical and quantum physics make a priori assumptions about the dimension of the system under consideration. However, would it be possible to assess the dimension of a completely unknown system only from the results of measurements performed on it, without any extra assumption? The concept of a dimension witness answers this question, as it allows one t… ▽ More

Cancelation of dispersion and temporal modulation with non-entangled frequency-correlated photons
Abstract: The observation of the so-called dispersion cancelation (Opt. Express 17, 19244, 2009) and temporal phase modulation (Phys. Rev. Lett. 103, 163601, 2009) of paired photons is generally attributed to the presence of frequency entanglement between two frequency anticorrelated photons. In this paper, it is shown that by introducing the appropriate amount of chromatic dispersion or phase modulation be… ▽ More

Generation of paired photons in a quantum separable state in Bragg reflection waveguides
Abstract: This work proposes and analyses a novel approach for the generation of separable (quantum uncorrelated) photon pairs based on spontaneous parametric down-conversion in Bragg reflection waveguides composed of semiconductor AlGaN layers. This platform allows the removal of any spectral correlation between paired photons that propagate in different spatial modes. The photons can be designed to show e… ▽ More

Photons with tunable spectral shapes: The transition from frequency anticorrelated to correlated photon pairs
Abstract: We present an experimental demonstration of the full control of the frequency correlations of entangled photon pairs. The joint spectrum of photon pairs is continuously varied from photons that exhibit anticorrelation in frequency to photons that exhibit correlation in frequency, passing through the case of uncorrelated photons. Highly entangled frequency-anticorrelated photon pairs were obtaine… ▽ More

Broadening the bandwidth of entangled photons: a step towards the generation of extremely short biphotons
Abstract: We demonstrate a technique that allows to fully control the bandwidth of entangled photons independently of the frequency band of interest and of the nonlinear crystal. We show that this technique allows to generate nearly transform-limited biphotons with almost one octave of bandwidth (hundreds of THz) which corresponds to correlation times of just a few femtoseconds. The presented method becom… ▽ More

Generation of indistinguishable and pure heralded single photons with tunable bandwidth
Abstract: We describe a new scheme to fully control the joint spectrum of paired photons generated in spontaneous parametric down-conversion. We show the capability of this method to generate frequency-uncorrelated photon pairs that are pure and indistinguishable, and whose bandwidth can be readily tuned. Importantly, the scheme we propose here can be implemented in any nonlinear crystal and frequency ban… ▽ More

Tunable control of the bandwidth and frequency correlations of entangled photons
Abstract: We demonstrate experimentally a new technique to control the bandwidth and the type of frequency correlations (correlation, anticorrelation, and even uncorrelation) of entangled photons generated by spontaneous parametric downconversion. The method is based on the control of the group velocities of the interacting waves. This technique can be applied in any nonlinear medium and frequency band of… ▽ More

Shape of the spatial mode function of photons generated in noncollinear spontaneous parametric downconversion
Abstract: We show experimentally how noncollinear geometries in spontaneous parametric downconversion induce ellipticity of the shape of the spatial mode function. The degree of ellipticity depends on the pump beam width, especially for highly focused beams. We also discuss the ellipticity induced by the spectrum of the pump beam.

Experimental verification of energy correlations in entangled photon pairs
Abstract: Properties of entangled photon pairs generated in spontaneous parametric down-conversion are investigated in interference experiments. Strong energy correlations are demonstrated in a direct way. If a signal photon is detected behind a narrow spectral filter, then interference appears in the Mach-Zehnder interferometer placed in the route of the idler photon, even if the path difference in the i… ▽ More

Simple optical measurement of the overlap and fidelity of quantum states: An experiment
Abstract: We present the experimental results of measurements of the overlap of both pure and mixed polarization states of photons. The fidelity and purity of mixed states were also measured. The experimental apparatus exploits the fact that a beam splitter can distinguish the singlet Bell state from the other Bell states, i.e., it realizes projections into the symmetric and antisymmetric subspaces of pho… ▽ More

Testing operational phase concepts in quantum optics
Abstract: An experimental comparison of several operational phase concepts is presented. In particular, it is shown that statistically motivated evaluation of experimental data may lead to a significant improvement in phase fitting upon the conventional Noh, Fouge'res and Mandel procedure. The analysis is extended to the asymptotic limit of large intensities, where a strong evidence in favor of multi--dim… ▽ More

Two identification protocols are devised. The first protocol can be applied when legitimate users have an… ▽ More
