Higher homotopy commutativity and cohomology of finite H-spaces
Abstract: We study connected mod p finite A_p-spaces admitting AC_n-space structures with n<p for an odd prime p. Our result shows that if n is greator than (p-1)/2, then the mod p Steenrod algebra acts on the mod p cohomology of such a space in a systematic way. Moreover, we consider A_p-spaces which are mod p homotopy equivalent to product spaces of odd dimensional spheres. Then we determine the largest… ▽ More

Retractions of H-spaces
Abstract: Stasheff showed that if a map between H-spaces is an H-map, then the suspension of the map is extendable to a map between cprojective planes of the H-spaces. Stahseff also proved the converse under the assumption that the multiplication of the target space of the map is homotopy associative. We show by giving an example that the assumption of homotopy associativity of the multiplication of the t… ▽ More

Development of a Laser Wire Beam Profile Monitor (I)
Abstract: A conceptual design work and a basic experimental study of a new beam profile monitor have been performed. The monitor will be used to measure emittance of an electron beam in the ATF dam** ring at KEK, in which the transverse beam size of about 10 micron is expected. It utilizes a CW laser and an optical cavity, instead of a material wire, to minimize interference with an electron beam. A las… ▽ More

Experimental search for the decay mode K_L -> pi^0 gamma e^+ e^-
Abstract: We report on results of a search for the decay mode K_L -> pi^0 gamma e^+ e^- conducted by the E162 experiment at KEK. We observed no events and set a 90% confidence level upper limit of Br(K_L -> pi^0 gamma e^+ e^-)< 7.1x10^{-7} for its branching ratio. This is the first published experimental result on this decay mode.

A handy method to monitor outputs from a pulsed light source and its application to photomultiplier's rate effect studies
Abstract: In order to study photomultiplier's short-term gain stability at high counting rate, we constructed an LED pulsed light source and its output monitor system. For the monitor system, we employed a photon counting method using a photomultiplier as a monitor photon detector. It is found that the method offers a simple way to monitor outputs from a pulsed light source and that, together with an LED… ▽ More

Observation of the decay mode K_L -> pi^+ pi^- e^+ e^-
Abstract: We report on results of an experimental search for the K_L -> pi^+ pi^- e^+ e^- decay mode. We found 13.5 +- 4.0 events and determined its branching ratio to be (4.4 +- 1.3(stat) +- 0.5(syst))*10^{-7}. The result agrees well with the theoretical prediction.
