Dynamic operation of biological processes, such as anaerobic digestion (AD), requires reliable process monitoring to guarantee stable operating conditions at all times. Unscented Kalman filters (UKF) are an established tool for nonlinear state estimation, and there exist numerous variants of UKF implementations, treating state constraints, improvements of numerical performance and different noise cases. So far, however, a unified comparison of proposed methods emphasizing the algorithmic details is lacking. The present study thus examines multiple unconstrained and constrained UKF variants, addresses aspects crucial for direct implementation and applies them to a simplified AD model. The constrained UKF considering additive noise delivered the most accurate state estimations. The long run time of the underlying optimization could be vastly reduced through pre-calculated gradients and Hessian of the associated cost function, as well as by reformulation of the cost function as a quadratic program. However, unconstrained UKF variants showed lower run times at competitive estimation accuracy. This study provides useful advice to practitioners working with nonlinear Kalman filters by paying close attention to algorithmic details and modifications crucial for successful implementation.

Dynamic operation of anaerobic digestion plants requires advanced process monitoring and control. Different simplifications of the Anaerobic Digestion Model No. 1 (ADM1) have been proposed recently, which appear promising for model-based process automation and state estimation. As a fundamental requirement, observability and identifiability of these models are analyzed in this work, which was pursued through algebraic and geometric analysis. Manual algebraic assessment was successfull for small models such as the ADM1-R4 and simplified versions of the ADM1-R3, which were derived in this context. However, for larger model classes the algebraic approach showed to be insufficient. By contrast, the geometric approach, implemented in the STRIKE_GOLDD toolbox, allowed to show observability for more complex models (including ADM1-R4 and ADM1-R3), employing two independent algorithms. The present study lays the groundwork for state observer design, parameter estimation and advanced control resting upon ADM1-based models.

A backward computation method has been developed to accelerate modelling of the critical state magnetization current in a staggered-array bulk high-temperature superconducting (HTS) undulator. The key concept is as follows: i) a large magnetization current is first generated on the surface of the HTS bulks after rapid field-cooling (FC) magnetization; ii) the magnetization current then relaxes inwards step-by-step obeying the critical state model; iii) after tens of backward iterations the magnetization current reaches a steady state. The simulation results show excellent agreement with the H-formulation method for both the electromagnetic and electromagnetic-mechanical coupled analyses, but with significantly faster computation speed. Solving the FEA model with 1.8 million degrees of freedom (DOFs), the backward computation method takes less than 1.4 hours, an order of magnitude or higher faster than other state-of-the-art numerical methods. Finally, the models are used to investigate the influence of the mechanical stress on the distribution of the critical state magnetization current and the undulator field along the central axis.

In this work we will introduce the A-V-A formulation based iterative algorithm method (IAM) for simulating the magnetization current of high temperature superconductors. This new method embedded in ANSYS can simulate the critical state model by forcing the trapped current density to the critical current density Jc for all meshed superconducting elements after each iterative load step, as well as simulate the flux creep model by updating the E-J power law based resistivity values. The simulation results of a disk-shaped ReBCO bulk during zero field cooling (ZFC) or field cooling (FC) magnetization agree well with the simulation results from using the H-formulation in COMSOL. The computation time is shortened by using the A-V formulation in superconductor areas and the A-formulation in non-superconductor areas. This iterative method is further proved friendly for adding ferromagnetic materials into the FEA model or taking into account the magnetic field-dependent or mechanical strain-related critical current density of the superconductors. The influence factors for the magnetization simulation, including the specified iterative load steps, the initial resistivity, the ram** time and the updating coefficient, are discussed in detail. The A-V-A formulation based IAM, implemented in ANSYS, shows its unique advantages in adjustable computation time, multi-frame restart analysis and easy-convergence.

In the past decade, the DBpedia community has put significant amount of effort on develo** technical infrastructure and methods for efficient extraction of structured information from Wikipedia. These efforts have been primarily focused on harvesting, refinement and publishing semi-structured information found in Wikipedia articles, such as information from infoboxes, categorization information, images, wikilinks and citations. Nevertheless, still vast amount of valuable information is contained in the unstructured Wikipedia article texts. In this paper, we present DBpedia NIF - a large-scale and multilingual knowledge extraction corpus. The aim of the dataset is two-fold: to dramatically broaden and deepen the amount of structured information in DBpedia, and to provide large-scale and multilingual language resource for development of various NLP and IR task. The dataset provides the content of all articles for 128 Wikipedia languages. We describe the dataset creation process and the NLP Interchange Format (NIF) used to model the content, links and the structure the information of the Wikipedia articles. The dataset has been further enriched with about 25% more links and selected partitions published as Linked Data. Finally, we describe the maintenance and sustainability plans, and selected use cases of the dataset from the TextExt knowledge extraction challenge.

This paper presents a simple approach to increase the normal zone propagation velocity in (RE)BaCuO thin films grown on a flexible metallic substrate, also called superconducting tapes. The key idea behind this approach is to use a specific geometry of the silver thermal stabilizer that surrounds the superconducting tape. More specifically, a very thin layer of silver stabilizer is deposited on top of the superconductor layer, typically less than 100 nm, while the remaining stabilizer (still silver) is deposited on the substrate side. Normal zone propagation velocities up to 170 cm/s have been measured experimentally, corresponding to a stabilizer thickness of 20 nm on top of the superconductor layer. This is one order of magnitude faster than the speed measured on actual commercial tapes. Our results clearly demonstrate that a very thin stabilizer on top of the superconductor layer leads to high normal zone propagation velocities. The experimental values are in good agreement with predictions realized by finite element simulations. Furthermore, the propagation of the normal zone during the quench was recorded in situ and in real time using a high-speed camera. Due to high Joule losses generated on both edges of the tape sample, a "U-shaped" profile could be observed at the boundaries between the superconducting and the normal zones, which matches very closely the profile predicted by the simulations.

It provides structured data for more than 100 Wikipedia language editions as well as Wikimedia Commons, has a mature ontology and a stable and thorough Linked Data publishing lifecycle. Wikidata, on the other hand, has recently emerged as a user curated source for structured information which is included in Wikipedia. In this paper, we present how Wikidata is incorporated in the DBpedia ecosystem. Enriching DBpedia with structured information from Wikidata provides added value for a number of usage scenarios. We outline those scenarios and describe the structure and conversion process of the DBpediaWikidata dataset.

Femtosecond time-resolved core-level photoemission spectroscopy with a free-electron laser is used to measure the atomic-site specific charge-order dynamics in the charge-density-wave/Mott insulator 1T-TaS2. After strong photoexcitation, a prompt loss of charge order and subsequent fast equilibration dynamics of the electron-lattice system are observed. On the time scale of electron-phonon thermalization, about 1 ps, the system is driven across a phase transition from a long-range charge ordered state to a quasi-equilibrium state with domain-like short-range charge and lattice order. The experiment opens the way to study the nonequilibrium dynamics of condensed matter systems with full elemental, chemical, and atomic site selectivity.

The broadening and the shift of a gold Fermi edge as a function of spot size, laser power, and emission angle are characterized for pulse lengths of 6 ps and 6 eV photon energy. The results are used as a benchmark for an $N$-body numerical simulation and are compared to different regimes used in photoemission spectroscopy. These results provide an important reference for the design of time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy setups and next-generation light sources.
