On the small-$x$ behavior of the orbital angular momentum distributions in QCD
Abstract: We present the numerical solution of the leading order QCD evolution equation for the orbital angular momentum distributions of quarks and gluons and discuss its implications for the nucleon spin sum rule. We observe that at small-$x$, the gluon helicity and orbital angular momentum distributions are roughly of the same magnitude but with opposite signs, indicating a significant cancellation betwe… ▽ More

Classical and quantum entropy of parton distributions
Abstract: We introduce the semiclassical Wehrl entropy for the nucleon as a measure of complexity of the multiparton configuration in phase space. This gives a new perspective on the nucleon tomography. We evaluate the entropy in the small-$x$ region and compare with the quantum von Neumann entropy. We also discuss the growth of entropy at small-$x$ and argue that it eventually saturates due to the Pomeron… ▽ More

Resumming double non-global logarithms in the evolution of a jet
Abstract: We consider the Banfi-Marchesini-Smye (BMS) equation which resums non-global energy logarithms in the QCD evolution of the energy lost by a pair of jets via soft radiation at large angles. We identify a new physical regime where, besides the energy logarithms, one has to also resum (anti)collinear logarithms. Such a regime occurs when the jets are highly collimated (boosted) and the relative angle… ▽ More

Abstract: It has been argued that high-multiplicity proton-proton collisions at the LHC may exhibit collective phenomena usually studied in the context of heavy-ion collisions, such as elliptic flow. We study this issue using DIPSY - a Monte Carlo event generator based on the QCD dipole model. We calculate the eccentricity of the transverse area defined by the spatial distribution of produced gluons. The re… ▽ More

Soft photon anomaly and gauge/string duality
Abstract: Motivated by the recent DELPHI report on the anomalous photon production in e^+e^- annihilation, we exactly calculate the inclusive cross section of soft photons in the strong coupling limit of N=4 super Yang-Mills. We find that the energy distribution is that of the Bremsstrahlung, while the angular distribution is spherical. Our result elucidates a new non-perturbative source of soft photons n… ▽ More

Odderon in baryon-baryon scattering from the AdS/CFT correspondence
Abstract: Based on the AdS/CFT correspondence, we present a holographic description of various C-odd exchanges in high energy baryon-baryon and baryon-antibaryon scattering, and calculate their respective contributions to the difference in the total cross sections. We predict that, due to the warp factor of AdS_5, the total cross section in pp collisions is larger than in p\bar{p} collisions at asymptotic… ▽ More

Jet energy flow at the LHC
Abstract: We present a quantitative study of energy flow away from jets by numerically solving the evolution equation derived by Banfi, Marchesini and Smye (BMS), and apply the result to two processes at the LHC: Discriminating high-p_t jets originating from decays of heavy electroweak bosons from the QCD background, and the survival probability of BFKL-initiated dijet rapidity gaps. As a byproduct, we fi… ▽ More

Polarized DIS in N=4 SYM: Where is spin at strong coupling?
Abstract: Using the AdS/CFT correspondence, we calculate the polarized structure functions in strongly coupled N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory deformed in the infrared. We find that the flavor singlet contribution to the g_1 structure function is vanishingly small, while the flavor non-singlet contribution shows the Regge behavior at small-x with an intercept slightly less than 1. We explicitly check… ▽ More

Soft gluons away from jets: distribution and correlation
Abstract: Recently, an exact conformal map** between soft gluons emitted from jets at large angle in e+e- annihilation and those in the BFKL evolution of a high energy hadron has been proposed. We elucidate some remarkable aspects of this correspondence and use them to analytically compute the distribution and correlation of gluons in the interjet region. We also establish the timelike counterpart of Mu… ▽ More

Relating $e^+e^-$ annihilation to high energy scattering at weak and strong coupling
Abstract: We explore the correspondence between the final state in e^+e^- annihilation and the small-x hadronic wavefunction in the transverse plane both in weakly coupled QCD and strongly coupled N=4 SYM. At strong coupling, the virtual and static photon produced in e^+e^- annihilation can be treated as a shock wave propagating in AdS space leaving spherical energy and charge distributions on the boundar… ▽ More

Quantitative study of the transverse correlation of soft gluons in high energy QCD
Abstract: We examine both analytically and numerically the validity of factorization for the double dipole scattering amplitude T^{(2)} which appears on the right hand side of the BK--JIMWLK equation. We demonstrate that, if one uses a dilute object (e.g., a proton in DIS) as the initial condition, the correlation in the transverse plane induced by the leading order BFKL evolution is generally strong, res… ▽ More
