Abstract:
We have determined the local structure of photoexcited metastable WO$_3$ created 150 ps after 400 nm laser irradiation by the pulse pump--probe L$_3$-edge extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy and the constrained thorough search analysis. We have found a highly distorted octahedral local structure with one of the shortest W=O bonds being further shortened to 1.66 Åwhile the other f…

We have determined the local structure of photoexcited metastable WO$_3$ created 150 ps after 400 nm laser irradiation by the pulse pump--probe L$_3$-edge extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy and the constrained thorough search analysis. We have found a highly distorted octahedral local structure with one of the shortest W=O bonds being further shortened to 1.66 Åwhile the other five bonds were elongated even though theoretical calculations predicted the reverse change. We discuss this contradiction and propose a possible structure for the metastable state.

Abstract:
Reactivity of the [FeO]2+ group in the abstraction of hydrogen from methane is determined by metastable oxyl state FeIII-O* causing the negative spin polarization of the methyl moiety as was shown by quantum-chemical means with the use of model iron hydroxide species FeO(OH)2, Fe2O(OH)5, and Fe4O5(OH)3 as an example.

Cloud computing projects have many implications, including issues such as security, compliance, funding, cohesion with existing systems, operational resource requirements, and number of employees involved. In order to gain a better understanding of why businesses are interested in adopting cloud services in spite of these potential difficulties, we interviewed senior IT personnel at five different organizations about their processes related to cloud decisions, their thoughts before and during the process, and the outcome of their endeavor. Our results provide insights from their perspectives into the similarities and differences among the organizations and the implications of going into the cloud. We conclude with a list of recommended questions and areas to consider for use by other organizations looking into adopting cloud services. The ultimate goal is to help businesses considering a cloud computing project by providing advice from other organizations based on their experience.

Decoy state method quantum key distribution (QKD) is one of the promising practical solutions to BB84 QKD with coherent light pulses. In the real world, however, statistical fluctuations with the finite code length cannot be negligible, and the securities of theoretical and experimental researches of the decoy method state QKD so far are based on the asymptotic GLLP's formula which guarantees only that the limit of eavesdropper's information becomes zero as the code length approaches infinity. In this paper, we propose a substantially improved decoy state QKD in the framework of the finite code length and derive the upper bound of eavesdropper's information in the finite code length decoy state QKD with arbitrary number of decoy states of different intensities incorporating the finite statistics. We also show the performance of our decoy QKD and optimal values of parameters by numerical simulation.

Abstract:
This paper deals with graph colouring games, an example of pseudo-telepathy, in which two provers can convince a verifier that a graph $G$ is $c$-colourable where $c$ is less than the chromatic number of the graph. They win the game if they convince the verifier. It is known that the players cannot win if they share only classical information, but they can win in some cases by sharing entangleme…

This paper deals with graph colouring games, an example of pseudo-telepathy, in which two provers can convince a verifier that a graph $G$ is $c$-colourable where $c$ is less than the chromatic number of the graph. They win the game if they convince the verifier. It is known that the players cannot win if they share only classical information, but they can win in some cases by sharing entanglement. The smallest known graph where the players win in the quantum setting, but not in the classical setting, was found by Galliard, Tapp and Wolf and has 32,768 vertices. It is a connected component of the Hadamard graph $G_N$ with $N=c=16$. Their protocol applies only to Hadamard graphs where $N$ is a power of 2. We propose a protocol that applies to all Hadamard graphs. Combined with a result of Frankl, this shows that the players can win on any induced subgraph of $G_{12}$ having 1609 vertices, with $c=12$. Combined with a result of Frankl and Rodl, our result shows that all sufficiently large Hadamard graphs yield pseudo-telepathy games.

In this paper, we analyze the quantum counting under the decoherence, which can find the number of solutions satisfying a given oracle. We investigate probability distributions related to the first order term of the error rate on the quantum counting with the depolarizing channel. We also implement two circuits for the quantum counting -- the ascending-order circuit and the descending-order circuit -- by reversing ordering of application of controlled-Grover operations. By theoretical and numerical calculations for probability distributions, we reveal the difference of probability distributions on two circuits in the presence of decoherence and show that the ascending-order circuit is more robust against the decoherence than the descending-order circuit. This property of the robustness is applicable to the phase estimation such as the factoring.
