Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) encompass a group of disorders affecting the heart and blood vessels, including conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, stroke, and hypertension. In cardiovascular diseases, heart failure is one of the main causes of death and also long-term suffering in patients worldwide. Prediction is one of the risk factors that is highly valuable for treatment and intervention to minimize heart failure. In this work, an attention learning-based heart failure prediction approach is proposed on EHR(electronic health record) cardiovascular data such as ejection fraction and serum creatinine. Moreover, different optimizers with various learning rate approaches are applied to fine-tune the proposed approach. Serum creatinine and ejection fraction are the two most important features to predict the patient's heart failure. The computational result shows that the RMSProp optimizer with 0.001 learning rate has a better prediction based on serum creatinine. On the other hand, the combination of SGD optimizer with 0.01 learning rate exhibits optimum performance based on ejection fraction features. Overall, the proposed attention learning-based approach performs very efficiently in predicting heart failure compared to the existing state-of-the-art such as LSTM approach.

In the dynamic and ever-changing domain of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), the utmost importance lies in guaranteeing resilient and lucid security measures. This study highlights the necessity of implementing a Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) to enhance the security of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), hence departing from conventional perimeter defences that may expose vulnerabilities. The Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) paradigm requires a rigorous and continuous process of authenticating all network entities and communications. The accuracy of our methodology in detecting and identifying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is 84.59\%. This is achieved by utilizing Radio Frequency (RF) signals within a Deep Learning framework, a unique method. Precise identification is crucial in Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA), as it determines network access. In addition, the use of eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) tools such as SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) and Local Interpretable Model-agnostic Explanations (LIME) contributes to the improvement of the model's transparency and interpretability. Adherence to Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) standards guarantees that the classifications of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are verifiable and comprehensible, enhancing security within the UAV field.

One of the most serious corneal disorders, keratoconus is difficult to diagnose in its early stages and can result in blindness. This illness, which often appears in the second decade of life, affects people of all sexes and races. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs), one of the deep learning approaches, have recently come to light as particularly promising tools for the accurate and timely diagnosis of keratoconus. The purpose of this study was to evaluate how well different D-CNN models identified keratoconus-related diseases. To be more precise, we compared five different CNN-based deep learning architectures (DenseNet201, InceptionV3, MobileNetV2, VGG19, Xception). In our comprehensive experimental analysis, the DenseNet201-based model performed very well in keratoconus disease identification in our extensive experimental research. This model outperformed its D-CNN equivalents, with an astounding accuracy rate of 89.14% in three crucial classes: Keratoconus, Normal, and Suspect. The results demonstrate not only the stability and robustness of the model but also its practical usefulness in real-world applications for accurate and dependable keratoconus identification. In addition, D-CNN DenseNet201 performs extraordinarily well in terms of precision, recall rates, and F1 scores in addition to accuracy. These measures validate the model's usefulness as an effective diagnostic tool by highlighting its capacity to reliably detect instances of keratoconus and to reduce false positives and negatives.

Quantum image computing draws a lot of attention due to storing and processing image data faster than classical. With increasing the image size, the number of connections also increases, leading to the circuit complex. Therefore, efficient quantum image representation and compression issues are still challenging. The encoding of images for representation and compression in quantum systems is different from classical ones. In quantum, encoding of position is more concerned which is the major difference from the classical. In this paper, a novel zero-discarded state connection novel enhance quantum representation (ZSCNEQR) approach is introduced to reduce complexity further by discarding '0' in the location representation information. In the control operational gate, only input '1' contribute to its output thus, discarding zero makes the proposed ZSCNEQR circuit more efficient. The proposed ZSCNEQR approach significantly reduced the required bit for both representation and compression. The proposed method requires 11.76\% less qubits compared to the recent existing method. The results show that the proposed approach is highly effective for representing and compressing images compared to the two relevant existing methods in terms of rate-distortion performance.

Quantum computing draws huge attention due to its faster computational capability compared to classical computing to represent and compress the classical image data into the quantum domain. The main idea of quantum domain representation is to convert pixel intensities and their coordinates i.e. state label preparation using quantum bits i.e. Qubits. For a bigger size image, the state label preparation takes more Qubits. To address more Qubits issues, a novel SCMNEQR (State Connection Modification Novel Enhanced Quantum Representation) approach has been proposed that uses fewer qubits to map the arbitrary size of the grayscale image using block-wise state label preparation. The proposed SCMNEQR approach introduces the state connection using a reset gate rather than repeating the use of the Toffoli gate used in the existing approach. The experimental results show that the proposed approach outperforms the existing methods in terms of compression.

Quantum image processing draws a lot of attention due to faster data computation and storage compared to classical data processing systems. Converting classical image data into the quantum domain and state label preparation complexity is still a challenging issue. The existing techniques normally connect the pixel values and the state position directly. Recently, the EFRQI (efficient flexible representation of the quantum image) approach uses an auxiliary qubit that connects the pixel-representing qubits to the state position qubits via Toffoli gates to reduce state connection. Due to the twice use of Toffoli gates for each pixel connection still it requires a significant number of bits to connect each pixel value. In this paper, we propose a new SCMFRQI (state connection modification FRQI) approach for further reducing the required bits by modifying the state connection using a reset gate rather than repeating the use of the same Toffoli gate connection as a reset gate. Moreover, unlike other existing methods, we compress images using block-level for further reduction of required qubits. The experimental results confirm that the proposed method outperforms the existing methods in terms of both image representation and compression points of view.

Human monkeypox disease syndromes are quite similar to chickenpox, and measles classic symptoms, with very intricate differences such as skin blisters, which come in diverse forms. Various deep-learning methods have shown promising performances in the image-based diagnosis of COVID-19, tumor cell, and skin disease classification tasks. In this paper, we try to integrate deep transfer-learning-based methods, along with a convolutional block attention module (CBAM), to focus on the relevant portion of the feature maps to conduct an image-based classification of human monkeypox disease. We implement five deep-learning models, VGG19, Xception, DenseNet121, EfficientNetB3, and MobileNetV2, along with integrated channel and spatial attention mechanisms, and perform a comparative analysis among them. The cover is the face of a book and is a point of attraction for the readers. Designing book covers is an essential task in the publishing industry. One of the main challenges in creating a book cover is representing the theme of the book's content in a single image. In this research, we explore ways to produce a book cover using artificial intelligence based on the fact that there exists a relationship between the summary of the book and its cover. Our key motivation is the application of text-to-image synthesis methods to generate images from given text or captions. We explore several existing text-to-image conversion techniques for this purpose and propose an approach to exploit these frameworks for producing book covers from provided summaries. We construct a dataset of English books that contains a large number of samples of summaries of existing books and their cover images. In this paper, we describe our approach to collecting, organizing, and pre-processing the dataset to use it for training models. We apply different text-to-image synthesis techniques to generate book covers from the summary and exhibit the results in this paper.

An economic zone requires continuous monitoring and controlling by an autonomous surveillance system for heightening its production competency and security. Wireless sensor network (WSN) has swiftly grown popularity over the world for uninterruptedly monitoring and controlling a system. Sensor devices, the main elements of WSN, are given limited amount of energy, which leads the network to limited lifespan. Therefore, the most significant challenge is to increase the lifespan of a WSN system. Topology control mechanism (TCM) is a renowned method to enhance the lifespan of WSN. This paper proposes an approach to extend the lifetime of WSN for an economic area, targeting an economic zone in Bangladesh. Observations are made on the performance of the network lifetime considering the individual combinations of the TCM protocols and comparative investigation between the time and energy triggering strategy of TCM protocols. Results reveal the network makes a better performance in the case of A3 protocol while using the topology maintenance protocols with both time and energy triggering methods. Moreover, the performance of the A3 and DGETRec is superior to the other combinations of TCM protocols. Hence, the WSN system can be able to serve better connectivity coverage in the target economic zone.

Electric Vehicles (EVs) are projected to be one of the major contributors to energy transition in the global transportation due to their rapid expansion. The EVs will play a vital role in achieving a sustainable transportation system by reducing fossil fuel dependency and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. However, high level of EVs integration into the distribution grid has introduced many challenges for the power grid operation, safety, and network planning due to the increase in load demand, power quality impacts and power losses. An increasing fleet of electric mobility requires the advanced charging systems to enhance charging efficiency and utility grid support. Innovative EV charging technologies are obtaining much attention in recent research studies aimed at strengthening EV adoption while providing ancillary services. Therefore, analysis of the status of EV charging technologies is significant to accelerate EV adoption with advanced control strategies to discover a remedial solution for negative grid impacts, enhance desired charging efficiency and grid support. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the current deployment of EV charging systems, international standards, charging configurations, EV battery technologies, architecture of EV charging stations, and emerging technical challenges. The charging systems require a dedicated converter topology, a control strategy and international standards for charging and grid interconnection to ensure optimum operation and enhance grid support. The combination of big data and deep learning is a world-shattering technology that can greatly impact any objective if used properly. With the availability of a large volume of health care datasets and progressions in deep learning techniques, systems are now well equipped to predict the future trend of any health problems. From the literature survey, we found the SVM was used to predict the heart failure rate without relating objective factors. Utilizing the intensity of important historical information in electronic health records (EHR), we have built a smart and predictive model utilizing long short-term memory (LSTM) and predict the future trend of heart failure based on that health record. Hence the fundamental commitment of this work is to predict the failure of the heart using an LSTM based on the patient's electronic medicinal information. We have analyzed a dataset containing the medical records of 299 heart failure patients collected at the Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology and the Allied Hospital in Faisalabad (Punjab, Pakistan). The patients consisted of 105 women and 194 men and their ages ranged from 40 and 95 years old. The dataset contains 13 features, which report clinical, body, and lifestyle information responsible for heart failure. We have found an increasing trend in our analysis which will contribute to advancing the knowledge in the field of heart stroke prediction.

In this study, we propose a clustering-based approach on time-series data to capture COVID-19 spread patterns in the early period of the pandemic. We analyze the spread dynamics based on the early and post stages of COVID-19 for different countries based on different geographical locations. Furthermore, we investigate the confinement policies and the effect they made on the spread. We found that implementations of the same confinement policies exhibit different results in different countries. Specifically, lockdowns become less effective in densely populated regions, because of the reluctance to comply with social distancing measures. Lack of testing, contact tracing, and social awareness in some countries forestall people from self-isolation and maintaining social distance. Large labor camps with unhealthy living conditions also aid in high community transmissions in countries depending on foreign labor. Distrust in government policies and fake news instigate the spread in both developed and under-developed countries. Large social gatherings play a vital role in causing rapid outbreaks almost everywhere. While some countries were able to contain the spread by implementing strict and widely adopted confinement policies, some others contained the spread with the help of social distancing measures and rigorous testing capacity. An early and rapid response at the beginning of the pandemic is necessary to contain the spread, yet it is not always sufficient.

Syringe pumps are widely used biomedical equipment which offer low-cost solutions to drive and control flow through microfluidic chips. However, they have been shown to transmit mechanical oscillations resulting from their stepper motors, into the flow, perturbing device performance. In this work, unlike previous studies at lower flow rates, we have uncovered that the relative pressure fluctuation plateau from 5mL/h onwards to approximately 2% of the average pressure. Furthermore, we find that absolute pressure fluctuations increase as a non-linear monotonic function of kinematic viscosity at flow rates in the 5-25 mL/h range, while the relative pressure fluctuations peak at 1.25 cSt. Using a novel low-cost coded compressive rotating mirror (CCRM) camera, we investigated the effect of fluctuations in a hydrodynamic microfluidic separation device based on a cell-free layer concept. Using this high-speed imaging set-up, we quantified the cell-free zone width fluctuations at bifurcations. We demonstrated that these fluctuations have the same frequency and amplitude than the syringe pump induced pressure oscillations. Finally, to illustrate that pressure fluctuations degrade the separation efficiency in such devices, we demonstrate using milk samples, instances of particles diverted to undesired outlets. This work provides an insight into the effect of syringe pump fluctuations on microfluidic separation, which will inform the design of microfluidic systems and improve their resilience to pulsating or fluctuating flow conditions.

The advancement of distributed generation technologies in modern power systems has led to a widespread integration of renewable power generation at customer side. However, the intermittent nature of renewable energy poses new challenges to the network operational planning with underlying uncertainties. This paper proposes a novel Bayesian probabilistic technique for forecasting renewable solar generation by addressing data and model uncertainties by integrating bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) neural networks while compressing the weight parameters using variational autoencoder (VAE). Existing Bayesian deep learning methods suffer from high computational complexities as they require to draw a large number of samples from weight parameters expressed in the form of probability distributions. The proposed method can deal with uncertainty present in model and data in a more computationally efficient manner by reducing the dimensionality of model parameters. The proposed method is evaluated using quantile loss, reconstruction error, and deterministic forecasting evaluation metrics such as root-mean square error. It is inferred from the numerical results that VAE-Bayesian BiLSTM outperforms other probabilistic and deterministic deep learning methods for solar power forecasting in terms of accuracy and computational efficiency for different sizes of the dataset.

Neural network-based WSD approaches rely on a sense-annotated corpus since they do not utilize lexical resources. In this study, we utilize both context and related gloss information of a target word to model the semantic relationship between the word and the set of glosses. We propose SensPick, a type of stacked bidirectional Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) network to perform the WSD task. The experimental evaluation demonstrates that SensPick outperforms traditional and state-of-the-art models on most of the benchmark datasets with a relative improvement of 3.5% in F-1 score. Substance abuse is the unrestrained and detrimental use of psychoactive chemical substances, unauthorized drugs, and alcohol. Continuous use of these substances can ultimately lead a human to disastrous consequences. As patients display a high rate of relapse, prevention at an early stage can be an effective restraint. We therefore propose a binary classifier to identify any individual's present vulnerability towards substance abuse by analyzing subjects' socio-economic environment. We have collected data by a questionnaire which is created after carefully assessing the commonly involved factors behind substance abuse. Pearson's chi-squared test of independence is used to identify key feature variables influencing substance abuse. Later we build the predictive classifiers using machine learning classification algorithms on those variables. Logistic regression classifier trained with 18 features can predict individual vulnerability with the best accuracy.

COVID-19 hits the world like a storm by arising pandemic situations for most of the countries around the world. The whole world is trying to overcome this pandemic situation. A better health care quality may help a country to tackle the pandemic. Making clusters of countries with similar types of health care quality provides an insight into the quality of health care in different countries. In the area of machine learning and data science, the K-means clustering algorithm is typically used to create clusters based on similarity. In this paper, we propose an efficient K-means clustering method that determines the initial centroids of the clusters efficiently. Based on this proposed method, we have determined health care quality clusters of countries utilizing the COVID-19 datasets. Experimental results show that our proposed method reduces the number of iterations and execution time to analyze COVID-19 while comparing with the traditional k-means clustering algorithm.

Energy forecasting has a vital role to play in smart grid (SG) systems involving various applications such as demand-side management, load shedding, and optimum dispatch. Managing efficient forecasting while ensuring the least possible prediction error is one of the main challenges posed in the grid today, considering the uncertainty and granularity in SG data. This paper presents a comprehensive and application-oriented review of state-of-the-art forecasting methods for SG systems along with recent developments in probabilistic deep learning (PDL) considering different models and architectures. Traditional point forecasting methods including statistical, machine learning (ML), and deep learning (DL) are extensively investigated in terms of their applicability to energy forecasting. In addition, the significance of hybrid and data pre-processing techniques to support forecasting performance is also studied. A comparative case study using the Victorian electricity consumption and American electric power (AEP) datasets is conducted to analyze the performance of point and probabilistic forecasting methods. The analysis demonstrates higher accuracy of the long-short term memory (LSTM) models with appropriate hyper-parameter tuning among point forecasting methods especially when sample sizes are larger and involve nonlinear patterns with long sequences. Furthermore, Bayesian bidirectional LSTM (BLSTM) as a probabilistic method exhibit the highest accuracy in terms of least pinball score and root mean square error (RMSE).

The demand for green energy increases day by day due to environmental concern and thermoelectric (TE) materials are one of the eco-friendly energy resources. Few authors reported high TE performance in TmCu$_3$Ch$_4$, reaching the figure of merit (ZT) above 2 at 1000K, from first-principles calculations neglecting electron-phonon scattering, spin-orbit coupling effect (SOC), and energy-dependent carrier lifetime. Here, thermoelectric transport properties of TmCu$_3$Ch$_4$ are reinvestigated through considering these parameters, and significant discrepancies are found. The ZT of p-type TaCu$_3$Te$_4$ can reach ~3 at 1000K among these compounds due to its low lattice thermal conductivity ($κ_l$) (0.38 W m-1 K-1). Interestingly, the value of $κ_l$ is reduced to 0.17 W m-1 K-1 through 1 GPa pressure while the power factor is slightly improved due to bandgap reduction, leading to an extraordinary ZT~5.5 at 1000K. Although the substitution of Se causes a slight reduction of $κ_l$ to ~0.3 W m-1 K-1, the power factor is reduced significantly due to the dramatic reduction of DOS near Fermi level, which leads to lower the Seebeck coefficient largely and increase electrical conductivity slightly.

Thermoelectric materials can generate electricity directly utilizing heat and thus, they are considered to be eco-friendly energy resources. The thermoelectric efficiency at low temperatures is impractically small, except only a few bulk materials (Bi$_2$Te$_3$ and its alloys). Here, I predict two new thermoelectric materials, LiBaSb and NaBaBi, with excellent transport properties at low-medium temperature by using the first-principles method. The relatively low density of states near Fermi level, highly non-parabolic bands, and almost two times wider bandgap of NaBaBi lead to almost two times higher anisotropic power factor at 300K than that of Bi2Te3. On the other side, almost similar phonon density of states and anharmonicity of NaBaBi cause almost identical lattice thermal conductivity (but it is much higher in LiBaSb). These effects make it a superior thermoelectric material, with a predicted cross-plane (in-plane) ZT ~2 (~1) at 300 K for both n- and p-type carriers, even higher (~2.5 for p-type) at 350K. On the other hand, the isotropic maximum ZT of NaBaBi is ~1.2 and 1.6 at 350K for n and p-type carriers, respectively. However, LiBaSb is less suitable for low-temperature TE applications, because of its relatively wider bandgap and high lattice thermal conductivity.

Thermoelectric materials based on earth-abundant and non-toxic elements are very useful in cost-effective and eco-friendly waste heat management systems. The constituents of SrGaSnH are earth-abundant and non-toxic, thus we have chosen SrSnGaH to study its structural stability and thermoelectric properties by using DFT, DFPT, and semi-classical Boltzmann transport theory. Our elastic and phonons calculations show that the compound has good structural stability. The electronic structure calculation discloses that it is an indirect bandgap (0.63 eV by mBJ+SOC) semiconductor. Light band hole effective mass leads to higher electrical conductivity along x-axis than that of along z-axis. On the other side, the weak phonon scattering leads to high lattice thermal conductivity ~10.5 W m-1K-1 at 300 K. Although the power factor (PF) is very high along the x-axis (above 10 mW m-1K-2 at 300 K), such large kl dramatically reduces ZT. The maximum values of in-plane and cross-plane ZT are ~1 (n-type), 0.8 (p-type) and 0.6 (n-type), (0.2 p-type) at 700 K, respectively. The present study has revealed that this compound has strong potential in eco-friendly TE applications.

Recently, Fang et al. have predicted a high ZT of 1.54 in TaSbRu alloys at 1200 K from first-principles without considering spin-orbit interaction, accurate electronic structure, details of phonon scattering, and energy-dependent holes relaxation time. Here, we report the details of structural stability and thermoelectric performance of Bi-Substituted p-type TaSbRu from first-principles calculations considering theses important parameters. This indirect bandgap semiconductor (Eg=0.8 eV by TB-mBJ+SOC) has highly dispersive and degenerate valence bands, which lead to a maximum power factor, 3.8 mWm-1K-2 at 300K. As Sb-5p has a small contribution to the bandgap formation, the substitution of Bi on the Sb site does not cause significant change to the electronic structure. Although the Seebeck coefficient increases by Bi due to slight changes in the bandgap, electrical conductivity, and hence, the power factor reduces to ~3 mW m-1K-2 at 300K (50% Bi). On the other side, lattice thermal conductivity drops effectively to 5 from 20 W/m K as Bi introduces a significant contribution in the acoustic phonon region and intensify phonon scattering. Thus, ZT value is improved through Bi-substitution, reaching 1.1 (50% Bi) at 1200 K from 0.45 (pure TaSbRu) only. Therefore, the present study suggests how to improve the TE performance of Sb-based half-Heusler compounds and TaSbRu (with 50% Bi) is a promising material for high-temperature applications.

New generation Indium based lead-free Cs2InAgCl6 is a promising halide material in photovoltaic applications due to its good air stability and non-toxic behavior. But its wide band gap (>3 eV) is not suitable for solar spectrum and hence reducing the photoelectronic efficiency for device applications. Here we report a significant band gap reduction from 3.3 eV to 0.6 eV by substitutional do** and its effect on opto-electronic and opto-thermoelectric properties from first-principles study. The results predict that Sn/Pb and Ga & Cu co-do** enhance the density of states significantly near the valence band maximum (VBM) and thus reduce the band gap by shifting the VBM upward while the alkali-metals (K/Rb) slightly increase the band gap. A strong absorption peak near Shockley-Queisser limit is observed in co-doped case while in Sn/Pb-doped case, we notice a peak in the middle of the visible region of solar spectrum. The nature of band gap is indirect with Cu-Ga/Pb/Sn do** with a significant reduction in the band gap. We observe a significant increase in the power factor (PF) (2.03 mW/mK2) for n-type carrier in Pb-dpoing, which is ~3.5 times higher than the pristine case (0.6 mW/mK2) at 500 K.

Digital images are becoming large in size containing more information day by day to represent the as is state of the original one due to the availability of high resolution digital cameras, smartphones, and medical tests images. Therefore, we need to come up with some technique to convert these images into smaller size without loosing much information from the actual. There are both lossy and lossless image compression format available and JPEG is one of the popular lossy compression among them. In this paper, we present the architecture and implementation of JPEG compression using VHDL (VHSIC Hardware Description Language) and compare the performance with some contemporary implementation. JPEG compression takes place in five steps with color space conversion, down sampling, discrete cosine transformation (DCT), quantization, and entropy encoding. The five steps cover for the compression purpose only. Additionally, we implement the reverse order in VHDL to get the original image back. We use optimized matrix multiplication and quantization for DCT to achieve better performance. Our experimental results show that significant amount of compression ratio has been achieved with very little change in the images, which is barely noticeable to human eye.

Smart grids are becoming ubiquitous in recent time. With the progress of automation in this arena, it needs to be diagnosed for better performance and less failures. There are several options for doing that but we have seen from the past research that using Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) as the diagnosis framework would be the most promising option due to its diverse benefits. Several challenges such as effect of noise, lower speed, selective node replacement, complexity of logistics, and limited battery lifetime arise while using WSN as the framework. Limited battery lifetime has become one of the most significant issues to focus on to get rid of it. This article provides a model for replenishing the battery charge of the sensor nodes of wireless sensor network. We will use the model for sensor battery recharging in an efficient way so that no nodes become out of service after a while. We will be using mobile charger for this purpose. So, there may be some scope for improving the recharge interval for the mobile charger as well. This will be satisfied using optimum path calculation for each time the charger travels to the nodes. Our main objectives are to maximize the nodes battery utilization, distribute power effectively from the energy harvester, and minimize the distance between power source and cluster head. The simulation results show that the proposed approach successfully maximizes the utilization of the nodes battery while minimizes the waiting time for the sensor nodes to get recharged from the energy harvester.

Thermoelectric materials create an electric potential when subject to a temperature gradient and vice versa hence they can be used to harvest waste heat into electricity and in thermal management applications. However, finding highly efficient thermoelectrics with high figures of merit, zT$\geq$1, is very challenging because the combination of high power factor and low thermal conductivity is rare in materials. Here, we use first-principles methods to analyze the thermoelectric properties of Li$_2$Sn$X_3$ ($X$=S,Se), a recently synthesized class of lithium fast-ion conductors presenting high thermal stability. In p-type Li$_2$Sn$X_3$, we estimate highly flat electronic valence bands that render high Seebeck coefficients exceeding 400 $μ$VK$^{-1}$ at 700K. In n-type Li$_2$Sn$X_3$, the electronic conduction bands are slightly dispersive however the accompanying weak electron-acoustic phonon scattering induces high electrical conductivity. The combination of high Seebeck coefficient and electrical conductivity gives rise to high power factors, reaching a maximum of 4 mWm$^{-1}$K$^{-2}$ in p-type Li$_2$SnS$_3$ and 8 mWm$^{-1}$K$^{-2}$ in n-type Li$_2$SnSe$_3$ at 300 K. Likewise, the thermal conductivity in Li$_2$Sn$X_3$ is low as compared to conventional thermoelectric materials, 2-5 Wm$^{-1}$K$^{-1}$ at room temperature. As a result, we estimate a maximum zT = 1.05 in p-type Li$_2$SnS$_3$ at 700 K and an extraordinary 3.07 (1.5) in n-type Li$_2$SnSe$_3$ at the same temperature (300 K). Our findings of huge zT in Li$_2$Sn$X_3$ suggest that lithium fast-ion conductors, typically employed as electrolytes in solid-state batteries, hold exceptional promise as thermoelectric materials.

From first-principles calculations, we predict four new intercalated hexagonal $X$BC ($X$=Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba) compounds to be dynamically stable and phonon-mediated superconductors. These compounds form a LiBC like structure but are metallic. The calculated superconducting critical temperature, $T{_c}$, of MgBC is 51 K. The strong attractive interaction between $σ$-bonding electrons and the B${_{1g}}$ phonon mode gives rise to a larger electron-phonon coupling constant (1.135) and hence high $T_c$; notably, higher than that of MgB$_2$. The other compounds have a low superconducting critical temperature (4-17 K) due to the interaction between $σ$-bonding electrons and low energy phonons (E${_{2u}}$ modes). The elastic, electronic and thermoelectric properties of indium-based double-perovskite halide, Cs2InAgCl6 have been studied by first principles study. The Cs2InAgCl6 is found to be elastically stable, ductile, anisotropic and relatively low hard material. The calculated direct bandgap 3.67 eV by TB-mBJ functional fairly agrees with the experimentally measured value 3.3 eV but PBE functional underestimates the bandgap by 1.483 eV. The relaxation time and lattice thermal conductivity have been calculated by using relaxation time approximation (RTA) within the supercell approach. The lattice thermal conductivity (\k{appa}l) is quite low (0.2 Wm-1K-1). The quite low phonon group velocity in the large weighted phase space, and high anharmonicity (large phonon scattering) are responsible for small \k{appa}l. The room temperature Seebeck coefficient is 199 μVK-1. Such high Seebeck coefficient arises from the combination of the flat conduction band and large bandgap. We obtain power factors at 300K by using PBE and TB-mBJ potentials are ~29 and ~31 mWm-1K-2, respectively and the corresponding thermoelectric figure of merit of Cs2BiAgCl6 are 0.71 and 0.72. However, the maximum ZT value obtained at 700K is ~0.74 by TB-mBJ potential. The obtained results implies that Cs2InAgCl6 is a promising material for thermoelectric device applications.

We have presented the structural, elastic, optoelectronic and transport properties of Sr3SnO under pressure by using first principles method. The application of hydrostatic pressure causes charge transfer from Sr(5s) orbital to Sn(5p) and O(2p) orbitals. The increasing trend of Pughs ratio under pressure implies that the material tends to be ductile at high pressure. The semiconductor-metal transition occurs at 14 GPa and the density of states at the Fermi level is significantly increased at this pressure. The refractive index, optical conductivity, and absorption of Sr3SnO have been found to be high and comparable to that for typical materials used in photovoltaic. The material becomes n-type from 12 GPa and Hall coefficient also confirm it. Large Seebeck coefficient obtained at 12 GPa. Thus, Sr3SnO is a potential thermoelectric material possessing both p- and n-type nature. The detail physics of these changes under pressure has been explained within the available theory.

We report 45% enhancement in the thermoelectric figure of merit, ZT of Sr3SnO via Ca substitution. First-principles calculations have been performed to study the electronic and thermoelectric transport properties of Ca substituted Sr3SnO (Sr3-xCaxSnO). The effects of Ca subtitution on bandgap are studied and detailed mechanisms are proposed to explain the obtained results. We have found that effective mass and thermopower of Sr3SnO redueces with the increase of hole concentration. The optimum hole concentration has been obtained for Sr2CaSnO and the corresponding Seebeck coefficient is 219 μV/K. The electrical conductivity of Sr3SnO and its alloys exhibits semiconducting nature which contradicts with experimental results in Ca3SnO. We have found that due to the Ca-deficiency, the Ca3SnO shows the metallic conductivity and removes this contradiction with our results. The lattice thermal conductivities (\kl) of Sr3SnO and Ca3SnO have been calculated by using both PBE and GW functionals. The lattice thermal conductivity obtained by PBE functional largely underestimates the experimental value for Ca3SnO. The total thermal conductivity (with kl obtained by GW) at 300K is 2.33 and 1.897 W/mK for Sr3SnO and Ca3SnO, respectively, with excellent agreement with experimental value 1.707 W/mK for Ca3SnO. The dimensionless figure of merit (ZT) for Sr2CaSnO at 500 K is 0.6 and making it promising for thermoelectric applications.

We have performed a comprehensive set of first principles calculations to study the structural, elastic, electronic, magnetic and transport properties of new quaternary Heusler compounds CoZrMnX (X =Al, Ga, Ge, In). The results showed that all the quaternary Heusler compounds were stable in Type(I) structure. CoZrMnX are elastically stable and relatively hard materials. CoZrMnAl, CoZrMnGa, and CoZrMnIn are found to be ductile and CoZrMnGe is brittle in nature. The calculated Debye temperatures of all compounds are relatively high. The electronic structure calculations reveal that CoZrMnAl is nearly half metallic, CoZrMnGa and CoZrMnIn are metallic, and CoZrMnGe is a narrow indirect bandgap semiconductor. The calculated magnetic properties implies that CoZrMnAl, CoZrMnGa, and CoZrMnIn are ferromagnetic while CoZrMnGe is non-magnetic material. The CoZrMnAl is highly spin-polarized (96%) and CoZrMnGe is non-spin-polarized. Seebeck coefficent (S) in CoZrMnGe is relatively high (-106 μV/K at 650K) due to its semiconducting nature. The calculated thermoelectric figure of merit CoZrMnGe is 0.1 at 600K and for CoZrMnIn it is also 0.1 at 900 K. We hope our interesting results will inspire experimentalist to synthesis the new quaternary Heusler compounds CoZrMnX (X =Al, Ga, Ge, In).

We have explored electronic and thermoelectric properties of bismuth-based double-perovskite halides Cs2BiAgX6 by using first principles calculations. The calculated indirect bandgaps 2.85 eV and 1.99 eV for Cs2BiAgCl6 and Cs2BiAgBr6, respectively well agree with the measured value (2.77 eV of Cs2BiAgCl6 and 2.19 eV of Cs2BiAgBr6). We have calculated the relaxation time and lattice thermal conductivity by using relaxation time approximation (RTA) within supercell approach. The lattice thermal conductivities for both compounds are remarkably low and the obtained values at 300K for Cs2BiAgCl6 and Cs2BiAgBr6 are 0.078 and 0.065 Wm-1K-1, respectively. Such quite low lattice thermal conductivity arises due to low phonon group velocity in the large weighted phase space and large phonon scattering. The large Seebeck coefficient obtained for both halides at 400K. We have obtained the maximum power factors at 700K and the corresponding thermoelectric figure of merit for Cs2BiAgCl6 and Cs2BiAgBr6 are 0.775 and 0.774, respectively. The calculated results reveal that both halides are potential thermoelectric materials.

A first-principles calculation has been performed to study elastic, electronic, thermodynamic, transport and superconducting properties of recently reported osmium based two superconductors, XOsSi (X=Nb, Ta). We have calculated elastic constants and elastic moduli of XOsSi for the first time. The calculated values of bulk, Youngs, shear moduli are reasonably larger than the average value obtained from the rule of mixtures of the constituents. NbOsSi and TaOsSi both compounds are found to be relatively hard material, elastically stable and ductile in nature. The obtained directional bulk modulus and shear anisotropic factors indicate that both compounds have high elastic anisotropy. The shear anisotropic factors show higher elastic anisotropy than the percentage anisotropy in these compounds. The Debye temperature and bulk modulus increases with pressure but decreases with temperature as usual for metals. The magnetic susceptibility of TaOsSi follow the Curie law but NaOsSi do not follow due to its delocalized magnetic moment and electronic specific heat slightly deviates from the linear relationship with temperature. The calculated band structures of XOsSi compounds show metallic nature. In both cases d-orbitals have the dominating contribution to the total density of states. The smaller electron-phonon coupling constant implies that XOsSi (X=Nb, Ta) are weakly coupled superconductors.

Optical pulling with tractor beams is so far highly dependent on (i) the property of embedding background or the particle itself , (ii) the number of the particles and/or (iii) the manual ram** of beam phase. A necessary theoretical solution of these problems is proposed here. This article demonstrates a novel active tractor beam for multiple fully immersed objects with its additional abilities of yielding a controlled rotation and a desired 3D trap**. Continuous and stable long distance levitation, controlled rotation and 3D trap** are demonstrated with a single optical set-up by using two coaxial, or even non-coaxial, superimposed non-diffracting higher order Bessel beams of reverse helical nature and different frequencies. The superimposed beam has periodic intensity variations both along and around the beam-axis because of the difference in longitudinal wave-vectors and beam orders, respectively. The difference in frequencies of two laser beams makes the intensity pattern move along and around the beam-axis in a continuous way without manual ram** of phase, which allows for either linear motion (forward or backward) or angular movement (clockwise or anticlockwise) of fully immersed multiple particles. As a major contribution, the condition for increasing the target binding regions is also proposed to manipulate multiple immersed objects of different sizes and shapes.

In this paper, we implemented both sequential and parallel version of fractal image compression algorithms using CUDA (Compute Unified Device Architecture) programming model for parallelizing the program in Graphics Processing Unit for medical images, as they are highly similar within the image itself. There are several improvement in the implementation of the algorithm as well. Fractal image compression is based on the self similarity of an image, meaning an image having similarity in majority of the regions. We take this opportunity to implement the compression algorithm and monitor the effect of it using both parallel and sequential implementation. Fractal compression has the property of high compression rate and the dimensionless scheme. Compression scheme for fractal image is of two kind, one is encoding and another is decoding. Encoding is very much computational expensive. On the other hand decoding is less computational. The application of fractal compression to medical images would allow obtaining much higher compression ratios. While the fractal magnification an inseparable feature of the fractal compression would be very useful in presenting the reconstructed image in a highly readable form. However, like all irreversible methods, the fractal compression is connected with the problem of information loss, which is especially troublesome in the medical imaging. A very time consuming encoding pro- cess, which can last even several hours, is another bothersome drawback of the fractal compression.

Wireless communications has become one of the fastest growing areas in our modern life and creates enormous impact on nearly every feature of our daily life. In this paper, the performance of M-ary modulations schemes (MPSK, MQAM, MFSK) based wireless communication system on audio signal transmission over Additive Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel are analyzed in terms of bit error probability as a function of SNR. Based on the results obtained in the present study, MPSK and MQAM are showing better performance for lower modulation order whereas these are inferior with higher M. The BER value is smaller in MFSK for higher M, but it is worse due to the distortion in the reproduce signal at the receiver end. The lossless reproduction of recorded voice signal can be achieved at the receiver end with a lower modulation order.

This paper introduces a novel method for human face detection with its orientation by using wavelet, principle component analysis (PCA) and redial basis networks. The input image is analyzed by two-dimensional wavelet and a two-dimensional stationary wavelet. The common goals concern are the image clearance and simplification, which are parts of de-noising or compression. We applied an effective procedure to reduce the dimension of the input vectors using PCA. Radial Basis Function (RBF) neural network is then used as a function approximation network to detect where either the input image is contained a face or not and if there is a face exists then tell about its orientation. We will show how RBF can perform well then back-propagation algorithm and give some solution for better regularization of the RBF (GRNN) network. Compared with traditional RBF networks, the proposed network demonstrates better capability of approximation to underlying functions, faster learning speed, better size of network, and high robustness to outliers.

Speech recognition and speaker identification are important for authentication and verification in security purpose, but they are difficult to achieve. Speaker identification methods can be divided into text-independent and text-dependent. This paper presents a technique of text-dependent speaker identification using MFCC-domain support vector machine (SVM). In this work, melfrequency cepstrum coefficients (MFCCs) and their statistical distribution properties are used as features, which will be inputs to the neural network. This work firstly used sequential minimum optimization (SMO) learning technique for SVM that improve performance over traditional techniques Chunking, Osuna. The cepstrum coefficients representing the speaker characteristics of a speech segment are computed by nonlinear filter bank analysis and discrete cosine transform. The speaker identification ability and convergence speed of the SVMs are investigated for different combinations of features. Extensive experimental results on several samples show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
