To understand physical properties of the interstellar medium (ISM) on various scales, we investigate it at parsec resolution on the kiloparsec scale. Here, we report on the sub-kpc scale Gas Density Histogram (GDH) of the Milky Way. The GDH is a density probability distribution function (PDF) of the gas volume density. Using this method, we are free from an identification of individual molecular clouds and their spatial structures. We use survey data of $^{12}$CO and $^{13}$CO ($J$=1-0) emission in the Galactic plane ($l = 10^{\circ}$-$50^{\circ}$) obtained as a part of the FOREST Unbiased Galactic plane Imaging survey with the Nobeyama 45m telescope (FUGIN). We make a GDH for every channel map of $2^{\circ} \times 2^{\circ}$ area, including the blank sky component, and without setting cloud boundaries. This is a different approach from previous works for molecular clouds. The GDH fits well to a single or double log-normal distribution, which we name the low-density log-normal (L-LN) and high-density log-normal (H-LN) components, respectively. The multi-log-normal components suggest that the L-LN and H-LN components originate from two different stages of structure formation in the ISM. Moreover, we find that both the volume ratios of H-LN components to total ($f_{\mathrm{H}}$) and the width of the L-LN along the gas density axis ($σ_{\rm{L}}$) show coherent structure in the Galactic-plane longitude-velocity diagram. It is possible that these GDH parameters are related to strong galactic shocks and other weak shocks in the Milky Way.

Recent research has revealed remarkable properties of the two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals layered crystal CrSBr, which is both a semiconductor and an A-type antiferromagnet. Here we show the role of strong magnetoelastic coupling in the generation and propagation of coherent magnons in CrSBr. Time and spatially resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect (tr-MOKE) microscopy reveals two time-varying transient strain fields induced by out-of-plane transverse and in-plane longitudinal lattice displacements. These transient strain fields launch coherent wavepackets of magnons, optical and acoustic at 24.6 GHz and 33.4 GHz, respectively. These findings suggest mechanisms for controlling and manipulating coherent magnons from distinct magnetoelastic couplings in this 2D van der Waals magnetic semiconductor.

In observational studies of infrared dark clouds, the number of detections of CO freeze-out onto dust grains (CO depletion) at pc-scale is extremely limited, and the conditions for its occurrence are, therefore, still unknown. We report a new object where pc-scale CO depletion is expected. As a part of Kagoshima Galactic Object survey with Nobeyama 45-m telescope by Map** in Ammonia lines (KAGONMA), we have made map** observations of NH3 inversion transition lines towards the star-forming region associated with the CMa OB1 including IRAS 07077-1026, IRAS 07081-1028, and PGCC G224.28-0.82. By comparing the spatial distributions of the NH3 (1,1) and C18O (J=1-0), an intensity anti-correlation was found in IRAS 07077-1026 and IRAS 07081-1028 on the ~1 pc scale. Furthermore, we obtained a lower abundance of C18O at least in IRAS 07077-1026 than in the other parts of the star-forming region. After examining high density gas dissipation, photodissociation, and CO depletion, we concluded that the intensity anti-correlation in IRAS 07077-1026 is due to CO depletion. On the other hand, in the vicinity of the centre of PGCC G224.28-0.82, the emission line intensities of both the NH3 (1,1) and C18O (J=1-0) were strongly detected, although the gas temperature and density were similar to IRAS 07077-1026. This indicates that there are situations where C18O (J=1-0) cannot trace dense gas on the pc scale and implies that the conditional differences that C18O (J=1-0) can and cannot trace dense gas are unclear.

Ferroelectricity, a spontaneous and reversible electric polarization, is found in certain classes of van der Waals (vdW) material heterostructures. The discovery of ferroelectricity in twisted vdW layers provides new opportunities to engineer spatially dependent electric and optical properties associated with the configuration of moiré superlattice domains and the network of domain walls. Here, we employ near-field infrared nano-imaging and nano-photocurrent measurements to study ferroelectricity in minimally twisted WSe2. The ferroelectric domains are visualized through the imaging of the plasmonic response in a graphene monolayer adjacent to the moiré WSe2 bilayers. Specifically, we find that the ferroelectric polarization in moiré domains is imprinted on the plasmonic response of the graphene. Complementary nano-photocurrent measurements demonstrate that the optoelectronic properties of graphene are also modulated by the proximal ferroelectric domains. Our approach represents an alternative strategy for studying moiré ferroelectricity at native length scales and opens promising prospects for (opto)electronic devices.

The pair density wave (PDW) is a novel superconducting state in which Cooper pairs carry center-of-mass momentum in equilibrium, leading to the breaking of translational symmetry. Experimental evidence for such a state exists in high magnetic field and in some materials that feature density wave orders that explicitly break translational symmetry. However, evidence for a zero-field PDW state that exists independent of other spatially ordered states has so far been elusive. Here, we show that such a state exists in the iron pnictide superconductor EuRbFe4As4 (Eu-1144), a material that features coexisting superconductivity (Tc ~ 37K) and magnetism (Tm ~ 15 K). We show from the Spectroscopic Imaging Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (SI-STM) measurements that the superconducting gap at low temperature has long-range, unidirectional spatial modulations with an incommensurate period of ~8 unit cells. Upon raising the temperature above Tm, the modulated superconductor disappears, but a uniform superconducting gap survives to Tc. When an external magnetic field is applied, gap modulations disappear inside the vortex halo. The SI-STM and bulk measurements show the absence of other density wave orders, showing that the PDW state is a primary, zero-field superconducting state in this compound. Both four-fold rotational symmetry and translation symmetry are recovered above Tm, indicating that the PDW is a smectic order.

Since the seminal work on MoS2 monolayers, photoexcitation in atomically-thin transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) has been assumed to result in excitons with large binding energies (~ 200-600 meV). Because the exciton binding energies are order-of-magnitude larger than thermal energy at room temperature, it is puzzling that photocurrent and photovoltage generation have been observed in TMDC-based devices, even in monolayers with applied electric fields far below the threshold for exciton dissociation. Here, we show that the photoexcitation of TMDC monolayers results in a substantial population of free charges. Performing ultrafast terahertz (THz) spectroscopy on large-area, single crystal WS2, WSe2, and MoSe2 monolayers, we find that ~10% of excitons spontaneously dissociate into charge carriers with lifetimes exceeding 0.2 ns. Scanning tunnelling microscopy reveals that photo-carrier generation is intimately related to mid-gap defect states, likely via trap-mediated Auger scattering. Only in state-of-the-art quality monolayers14, with mid-gap trap densities as low as 10^9 cm^-2, does intrinsic exciton physics start to dominate the THz response. Our findings reveal that excitons or excitonic complexes are only the predominant quasiparticles in photo-excited TMDC monolayers at the limit of sufficiently low defect densities.

We studied the H$_2$ column density probability distribution function (N-PDF) based on molecular emission lines using the Nobeyama 45-m Cygnus X CO survey data. Using the DENDROGRAM and SCIMES algorithms, we identified 124 molecular clouds in the $^{13}$CO data. From these identified molecular clouds, an N-PDF was constructed for 11 molecular clouds with an extent of more than 0.4 deg$^2$. From the fitting of the N-PDF, we found that the N-PDF could be well-fitted with one or two log-normal distributions. These fitting results provided an alternative density structure for molecular clouds from a conventional picture. We investigated the column density, dense molecular cloud cores, and radio continuum source distributions in each cloud and found that the N-PDF shape was less correlated with the star-forming activity over a whole cloud. Furthermore, we found that the log-normal N-PDF parameters obtained from the fitting showed two impressive features. First, the log-normal distribution at the low-density part had the same mean column density ($\sim$ 10$^{21.5}$ cm$^{-2}$) for almost all the molecular clouds. Second, the width of the log-normal distribution tended to decrease with an increasing mean density of the structures. These correlations suggest that the shape of the N-PDF reflects the relationship between the density and turbulent structure of the whole molecular cloud but is less affected by star-forming activities.

We have carried out the NH$_3$ $(J,K)=(1,1),(2,2),$ and $(3,3)$ map** observations toward the Galactic infrared bubble N49 (G28.83-0.25) using the Nobeyama 45 m telescope. Three NH$_3$ clumps (A, B, and C) were discovered along the molecular filament with the radial velocities of $\sim$ 96, 87, and 89 km s$^{-1}$, respectively. The kinetic temperature derived from the NH$_3$ (2,2)/NH$_3$ (1,1) shows $T_{\rm kin} = 27.0 \pm 0.6$ K enhanced at Clump B in the eastern edge of the bubble, where position coincides with massive young stellar objects (MYSOs) associated with the 6.7 GHz class II methanol maser source. This result shows the dense clump is locally heated by stellar feedback from the embedded MYSOs. The NH$_3$ Clump B also exists at the 88 km s$^{-1}$ and 95 km s$^{-1}$ molecular filament intersection. We therefore suggest that the NH$_3$ dense gas formation in Clump B can be explained by a filament-filament interaction scenario. On the other hand, NH$_3$ Clump A and C at the northern and southern side of the molecular filament might be the sites of spontaneous star formation because these clumps are located $\sim$5$-$10 pc away from the edge of the bubble.

Many crystalline solids possess strongly anharmonic soft phonon modes characterized by diminishing frequency as temperature approaches a critical point associated with a symmetry breaking phase transition. While electron-soft phonon coupling can introduce unique scattering channels for charge carriers in ferroelectrics, recent studies on the non-ferroelectric lead halide perovskites have also suggested the central role of anharmonic phonons bearing resemblance to soft modes in charge carrier screening. Here we apply coherent phonon spectroscopy to directly study electron coupling to the soft transverse optical (TO) phonon mode in a ferroelectric semiconductor SbSI. Photo-generated charge carriers in SbSI are found to be exceptionally long lived and are associated with a transient electro-optical effect that can be explained by interactions between charge carriers and thermally stimulated soft-phonon excitations. These results provide strong evidence for the role of electron-soft phonon coupling in the efficient screening of charge carriers and in reducing charge recombination rates, both desirable properties for optoelectronics.

NH$_3$ (1,1) has an intensity peak at the cluster S255 N, is distributed over 3 pc $\times$ 2 pc and is located between two HII regions. The kinetic temperature derived from the NH$_3 (2,2)/(1,1)$ ratio was $\sim 35$ K near the massive cluster S255 IR. These clusters also show emission with a large line width of $\sim$ 3-4 km s$^{-1}$. Based on the reported data we suggest that NH$_3$ gas in these regions is affected by stellar feedback from embedded YSO clusters in S255 IR and S255 N. We also detected NH$_3$ (1,1) emission in a region west of the main gas clump at the location of a concentration of Class II YSOs adjacent to the HII regions Sh 2-254. The presence of Class II YSOs implies $\sim$ 2 Myr of star formation, younger than Sh 2-254 ($\sim 5$ Myr), thus we suggest that star formation in the western region could be influenced by the older HII region Sh 2-254.

We present the results of NH3 (1,1), (2,2) and (3,3) and H2O maser simultaneous map** observations toward the high-mass star-forming region W33 with the Nobeyama 45-m radio telescope. W33 has six dust clumps and one of which, W33 Main, is associated with a compact HII region. To investigate star-forming feedback activity on its surroundings, the spatial distribution of the physical parameters was established. The distribution of the rotational temperature shows a systematic change from west to east in our observed region. The high-temperature region obtained in the region near W33 Main is consistent with interaction between the compact HII region and the periphery molecular gas. The size of the interaction area is estimated to be approximately 1.25 pc. NH3 absorption features are detected toward the centre of the HII region. Interestingly, the absorption feature was detected only in the NH3 (1,1) and (2,2) transitions, with no absorption feature seen in the (3,3) transition. These complex profiles in NH3 are difficult to explain by a simple model and may suggest that the gas distribution around the HII region is highly complicated.

Molecular clouds are distributed over $\sim 100$ pc, with local peaks at the Sh 2-86, Sh 2-87, and Sh 2-88 high-mass star-forming regions in the Vulpecula complex. The molecular gas is associated with the Local Spur, which corresponds to the nearest inter-arm region located between the Local Arm and the Sagittarius Arm. We discovered new giant molecular filaments (GMFs) in Sh 2-86, with a length of $\sim 30$ pc, width of $\sim 5$ pc, and molecular mass of $\sim 4\times 10^4\ M_{\odot}$. We also found that Sh 2-86 contains the three velocity components at 22, 27, and 33 km s$^{-1}$. These clouds and GMFs are likely to be physically associated with Sh 2-86 because they have high $^{12}$CO $J =$ 2-1 to $J =$ 1-0 intensity ratios and coincide with the infrared dust emission. The open cluster NGC 6823 exists at the common intersection of these clouds. We argue that the multiple cloud interaction scenario, including GMFs, can explain cluster formation in the Vulpecula OB association.

We present the first astrometry catalog from the Japanese VLBI (very long baseline interferometer) project VERA (VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry). We have compiled all the astrometry results from VERA, providing accurate trigonometric annual parallax and proper motion measurements. In total, 99 maser sources are listed in the VERA catalog. Among them, 21 maser sources are newly reported while the rest of 78 sources are referred to previously published results or those in preparation for forthcoming papers. The accuracy in the VERA astrometry are revisited and compared with those from the other VLBI astrometry projects such as BeSSeL (The Bar and Spiral Structure Legacy) Survey and GOBELINS (the Gould's Belt Distances Survey) with the VLBA (Very Long Baseline Array). We have confirmed that most of the astrometry results are consistent with each other, and the largest error sources are due to source structure of the maser features and their rapid variation, along with the systematic calibration errors and different analysis methods. Combined with the BeSSeL results, we estimate the up-to-date fundamental Galactic parameter of $R_{0}=7.92\pm0.16_{\rm{stat.}}\pm0.3_{\rm{sys.}}$~kpc and $Ω_{\odot}=30.17\pm0.27_{\rm{stat.}}\pm0.3_{\rm{sys.}}$~km~s$^{-1}$~kpc$^{-1}$, where $R_{0}$ and $Ω_{\odot}$ are the distance from the Sun to the Galactic center and the Sun's angular velocity of the Galactic circular rotation, respectively.

Star formation is thought to be driven by two groups of mechanisms; spontaneous collapse and triggered collapse. Triggered star formation mechanisms further diverge into cloud-cloud collision (CCC), "collect and collapse" (C\&C) and shock induced collapse of pre-existing, gravitationally stable cores, or 'radiation driven implosion' (RDI). To evaluate the contributions of these mechanisms and establish whether these processes can occur together within the same star forming region we performed map** observations of radio frequency ammonia, and water maser emission lines in the S235 massive star forming region. Via spectral analyses of main, hyperfine and multi-transitional ammonia lines we explored the distribution of temperature and column density in the dense gas in the S235 and S235AB star forming region. The most remarkable result of the map** observations is the discovery of high density gas in inter-core bridges which physically link dense molecular cores that house young proto-stellar clusters. The presence of dense gas implies the potential for future star formation within the system of cores and gas bridges. Cluster formation implies collapse and the continuous physical links, also seen in re-imaged archival CS and $^{13}$CO maps, suggests a common origin to the molecular cores housing these clusters, i.e the structure condensed from a single, larger parent cloud, brought about by the influence of a local expanding H${\rm II}$ region. An ammonia absorption feature co-locating with the center of the extended H${\rm II}$ region may be attributed to an older gas component left over from the period prior to formation of the H${\rm II}$ region. Our observations also detail known and new sites of water maser emission, highlighting regions of active ongoing star formation.

The FOREST Unbiased Galactic plane Imaging survey with the Nobeyama 45-m telescope (FUGIN) project is one of the legacy projects using the new multi-beam FOREST receiver installed on the Nobeyama 45-m telescope. This project aims to investigate the distribution, kinematics, and physical properties of both diffuse and dense molecular gas in the Galaxy at once by observing 12CO, 13CO, and C18O J=1-0 lines simultaneously. The map** regions are a part of the 1st quadrant (10d < l < 50d, |b| < 1d) and the 3rd quadrant (198d < l <236d, |b| < 1d) of the Galaxy, where spiral arms, bar structure, and the molecular gas ring are included. This survey achieves the highest angular resolution to date (~20") for the Galactic plane survey in the CO J=1-0 lines, which makes it possible to find dense clumps located farther away than the previous surveys. FUGIN will provide us with an invaluable dataset for investigating the physics of the galactic interstellar medium (ISM), particularly the evolution of interstellar gas covering galactic scale structures to the internal structures of giant molecular clouds, such as small filament/clump/core. We present an overview of the FUGIN project, observation plan, and initial results, which reveal wide-field and detailed structures of molecular clouds, such as entangled filaments that have not been obvious in previous surveys, and large-scale kinematics of molecular gas such as spiral arms.

We measured the absolute proper motions of all the newly detected maser spots (30 spots) and presented two pictures describing the possible spatial distribution of the water maser as the morphology marks out an arc of masers whose average proper motion velocity in the jet direction was 14.26 km s$^{-1}$. As revealed by the ALLWISE composite image, and by applying the colour-colour method of YSO identification and classification on photometric archived data, we identified the driving source of the north maser group to be a class I, young stellar object. To further probe the nature of the progenitor, we used the momentum rate maximum value (1.2$\times$10$^{-4}$ M$_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$ km s$^{-1}$) of the outflow to satisfy that the progenitor under investigation is a low mass young stellar object concurrently forming alongside an intermediate-mass YSO $\sim 60,000$ au ($\sim 37$ arcsecs) away from it.

Proper motion and line of sight velocities reveal the 3D kinematics of masers in this region, most of which associate with millimeter sources from the literature. In particular we find remarkable bipolar bowshocks expanding from the most massive member, AFGL 5142 MM1, which are used to investigate the physical properties of its protostellar jet. We attempt to link the known outflows in this region to possible progenitors by considering a precessing jet scenario and we discuss the episodic nature of ejections in AFGL 5142.

We investigated the star formation activities in the AFGL333 region, which is in the vicinity of the W4 expanding bubble, by conducting NH3 (1,1), (2,2), and (3,3) map** observations with the 45 m Nobeyama Radio Telescope at an angular resolution of 75". The morphology of the NH3 (1,1) map shows a bow-shape structure with the size of 2.0 x 0.6 pc as seen in the dust continuum. At the interface between the W4 bubble and the dense NH3 cloud, the compact HII region G134.2+0.8, associated with IRAS02245+6115, is located. Interestingly, just north and south of G134.2+0.8 we found NH3 emission exhibiting large velocity widths of ~ 2.8 km/s, compared to 1.8 km/s at the other positions. As the possibility of mechanical energy injection through the activity of YSO(s) is low, we considered the origin of the large turbulent gas motion as indication of interaction between the compact HII region and the periphery of the dense molecular cloud. We also found expanding motion of the CO emission associated with G134.2+0.8. The overall structure of the AFGL333-Ridge might have been formed by the expanding bubble of W4. However, the small velocity widths observed west of IRAS02245+6115, around the center of the dense molecular cloud, suggest that interaction with the compact HII region is limited. Therefore the YSOs (dominantly Class 0/I) in the core of the AFGL333-Ridge dense molecular cloud most likely formed in quiescent mode. As has been previously suggested for the large scale star formation in the W3 giant molecular cloud, our results show an apparent coexistence of induced and quiescent star formation in this region. It appears that star formation in the AFGL333 region has proceeded without significant external triggers, but accompanying stellar feedback environment.

Aims. To confirm the presence of a molecular counterpart to the jet and to further study the molecular environment in in S235AB. Methods. We search for velocity wings in the line emission of thermal SiO (J=2-1, v=0), a tracer of shocked gas, which would indicate the presence of jet activity. Utilising other lines detected in our survey we use the relative intensities of intra species transitions, isotopes and hyperfine transitions to derive opacities, temperatures, column densities and abundances of various molecular species in S235AB.
Results. The SiO (J=2-1, v=0) emission exhibits velocity wing of up to 75 km/s above and below the velocity of the star, indicating the presence of a jet. The molecular environment describes an evolutionary stage resemblant of a hot molecular core.

Water masers trace a jet of diameter 15 au which exhibits a definite radial velocity gradient perpendicular to its axis. 3D maser kinematics were well modelled by a rotating cylinder with physical parameters: v_out = 45+-2 km/s, v_rot = 22+-3 km/s, i = 12+-2 degrees, which are the outflow velocity, tangential rotation velocity and line-of-sight inclination, respectively. One maser feature exhibited steady acceleration which may be related to the jet rotation. During our 15 month VLBI programme there were three `maser burst' events caught `in the act' which were caused by the overlap** of masers along the line of sight.

We have developed a near-infrared camera called ANIR (Atacama Near-InfraRed camera) for the University of Tokyo Atacama Observatory 1.0m telescope (miniTAO) installed at the summit of Cerro Chajnantor (5640 m above sea level) in northern Chile. The camera provides a field of view of 5'.1 $\times$ 5'.1 with a spatial resolution of 0".298 /pixel in the wavelength range of 0.95 to 2.4 $μ$m. Taking advantage of the dry site, the camera is capable of hydrogen Paschen-$α$ (Pa$α$, $λ=$1.8751 $μ$m in air) narrow-band imaging observations, at which wavelength ground-based observations have been quite difficult due to deep atmospheric absorption mainly from water vapor. We have been successfully obtaining Pa$α$ images of Galactic objects and nearby galaxies since the first-light observation in 2009 with ANIR. The throughputs at the narrow-band filters ($N1875$, $N191$) including the atmospheric absorption show larger dispersion (~10%) than those at broad-band filters (a few %), indicating that they are affected by temporal fluctuations in Precipitable Water Vapor (PWV) above the site. We evaluate the PWV content via the atmospheric transmittance at the narrow-band filters, and derive that the median and the dispersion of the distribution of the PWV are 0.40+/-0.30 mm for $N1875$ and 0.37+/-0.21 mm for $N191$, which are remarkably smaller (49+/-38% for $N1875$ and 59+/-26% for $N191$) than radiometry measurements at the base of Cerro Chajnantor (5100 m alt.). The decrease in PWV can be explained by the altitude of the site when we assume that the vertical distribution of the water vapor is approximated at an exponential profile with scale heights within 0.3-1.9 km (previously observed values at night). We thus conclude that miniTAO/ANIR at the summit of Cerro Chajnantor indeed provides us an excellent capability for a "ground-based" Pa$α$ observation.

Luminous infrared galaxies (LIRGs) are enshrouded by a large amount of dust, produced by their active star formation, and it is difficult to measure their activity in the optical wavelength. We have carried out Pa$α$ narrow-band imaging observations of 38 nearby star-forming galaxies including 33 LIRGs listed in $IRAS$ RBGS catalog with the Atacama Near InfraRed camera (ANIR) on the University of Tokyo Atacama Observatory (TAO) 1.0 m telescope (miniTAO). Star formation rates (SFRs) estimated from the Pa$α$ fluxes, corrected for dust extinction using the Balmer Decrement Method (typically $A_V$ $\sim$ 4.3 mag), show a good correlation with those from the bolometric infrared luminosity of $IRAS$ data within a scatter of 0.27 dex. This suggests that the correction of dust extinction for Pa$α$ flux is sufficient in our sample. We measure the physical sizes and the surface density of infrared luminosities ($Σ_{L(\mathrm{IR})}$) and $SFR$ ($Σ_{SFR}$) of star-forming region for individual galaxies, and find that most of the galaxies follow a sequence of local ultra luminous or luminous infrared galaxies (U/LIRGs) on the $L(\mathrm{IR})$-$Σ_{L(\mathrm{IR})}$ and $SFR$-$Σ_{SFR}$ plane. We confirm that a transition of the sequence from normal galaxies to U/LIRGs is seen at $L(\mathrm{IR})=8\times10^{10}$ $L_{\odot}$. Also, we find that there is a large scatter in physical size, different from those of normal galaxies or ULIRGs. Considering the fact that most of U/LIRGs are merging or interacting galaxies, this scatter may be caused by strong external factors or differences of their merging stage.

Using our distance we re-evaluate past observations to reveal IRAS 20056+3350 as a site of massive star formation at a young stage of evolution. This result is consistent with the spectral energy distribution of the source evaluated with published photometric data from UKIDSS, WISE, AKARI, IRAS and sub-millimetre continuum. Both analytical approaches reveal the luminosity of the region to be 2.4 x 10^4 Lo, and suggest that IRAS 20056+3350 is forming an embedded star of 16 Mo. We estimated the proper motion of IRAS 20056+3350 to be ($μ_α\cosδ$, $μ_δ$) = ($-2.62\pm0.33$, $-5.65\pm0.52$) mas yr$^{-1}$ from the group motion of H$_{2}$O masers, and use our results to estimate the angular velocity of Galactic rotation at the Galactocentric distance of the Sun, $Ω_{0} = 28.71\pm0.63$ km s$^{-1}$ kpc$^{-1}$, which is consistent with the values obtained for other tangent point and Solar circle objects.

We computed the peculiar motion of \r22 to be $(U_{src}, V_{src}, W_{src}) = (4\pm4, -32\pm6, 8\pm6)$~\kms, where $U_{src}$, $V_{src}$, and $W_{src}$ are directed toward the Galactic center, in the direction of Galactic rotation and toward the Galactic north pole, respectively. \r22, NGC\,7538 and Cepheus A lie along the same line of sight, and are within 2$^{\circ}$ on the sky. We compared the kinematic distances of \iras, \ga, \gb, \gc, \gd, \cepa, \ngc, \ge, \gf~and \r22~derived with flat and non-flat rotation curve with its parallax distance and found the kinematic distance derived from the non-flat rotation assumption ($-$5 to $-$39 \kms~lag) to be consistent with the parallax distance.

By tracking masers for a period of over two years we measured a trigonometric parallax of $π= 0.367 \pm 0.037$ mas, corresponding to a source distance of $D = 2.72 ^{+0.31}_{-0.25}$ kpc and placing it in the Local spiral arm. Our trigonometric distance is just 60% of the previous estimation based on radial velocity, significantly impacting the astrophysics of the source. We measured proper motions of $-2.99 \pm 0.16$ mas yr$^{-1}$ and $-4.37 \pm 0.43$ mas yr$^{-1}$ in R.A. and Decl. respectively, which were used to estimate the peculiar motion of the source as $(U_{s},V_{s},W_{s}) = (-0.9 \pm 2.9, -8.5 \pm 1.6, +8.0 \pm 4.3)$ km s$^{-1}$ for $R_0=8$ kpc and $Θ_0=221$ km s$^{-1}$, and $(U_{s},V_{s},W_{s}) = (-1.0 \pm 2.9, -9.3 \pm 1.5, +8.0 \pm 4.3)$ km s$^{-1}$ for $R_0=8.5$ kpc and $Θ_0=235$ km s$^{-1}$. IRAS 20143+3634 was found to be located near the tangent point in the Cygnus direction. Using our observations we derived the angular velocity of Galactic rotation of the local standard of rest (LSR), $Ω_{0} = 27.3 \pm 1.6$ km s$^{-1}$ kpc$^{-1}$, which is consistent with previous values derived using VLBI astrometry of SFRs at the tangent points and Solar circle. It is higher than the value recommended by the IAU of $Ω_{0} = 25.9$ km s$^{-1}$ kpc$^{-1}$ which was calculated using the Galactocentric distance of the Sun and circular velocity of the LSR.

We conducted phase referencing VLBI observations of the Mira variable T~Lepus (T~Lep) using VERA, from 2003 to 2006. The distance to the source was determined from its annual parallax which was measured to be 3.06$\pm$0.04 mas, corresponding to a distance of 327$\pm$4\,pc. Our observations revealed the distribution and internal kinematics of H$_2$O masers in T~Lep, and we derived a source systemic motions of 14.60$\pm$0.50 mas yr$^{-1}$ and $-$35.43$\pm$0.79 mas yr$^{-1}$ in right ascension and declination, respectively. We also determined a LSR velocity of $V_\mathrm{LSR}^{\ast} = -$27.63 km s$^{-1}$. Comparison of our result with an image recently obtained from the VLTI infrared interferometer reveals a linear scale picture of the circumstellar structure of T~Lep. Analysis of the source systemic motion in the Galacto-centric coordinate frame indicates a large peculiar motion, which is consistent with the general characteristics of AGB stars. This source makes a contribution to the calibration of the period-luminosity relation of Galactic Mira variables. From the compilation of data for nearby Mira variables found in the literature, whose distances were derived from astrometric VLBI observations, we have calibrated the Galactic Mira period-luminosity relation to a high degree of accuracy.

Rotational transition lines of CO play a major role in molecular radio astronomy and in particular in the study of star formation and the Galactic structure. Although a wealth of data exists in the Galactic plane and some well-known molecular clouds, there is no available CO high sensitivity all-sky survey to date.
Such all-sky surveys can be constructed using the \Planck\ HFI data because the three lowest CO rotational transition lines at 115, 230 and 345 GHz significantly contribute to the signal of the 100, 217 and 353 GHz HFI channels respectively. Two different component separation methods are used to extract the CO maps from Planck HFI data. The maps obtained are then compared to one another and to existing external CO surveys. From these quality checks the best CO maps in terms of signal to noise and/or residual foreground contamination are selected. Three sets of velocity-integrated CO emission maps are produced: Type 1 maps of the CO (1-0), (2-1), and (3-2) rotational transitions with low foreground contamination but moderate signal-to-noise ratio; Type 2 maps for the (1-0) and (2-1) transitions with a better signal-to-noise ratio; and one Type 3 map, a line composite map with the best signal-to-noise ratio in order to locate the faintest molecular regions. The maps are described in detail. They are shown to be fully compatible with previous surveys of parts of the Galactic Plane and also of fainter regions out of the Galactic plane. The Planck HFI velocity-integrated CO maps for the (1-0), (2-1), and (3-2) rotational transitions provide an unprecedented all-sky CO view of the Galaxy. These maps are also of great interest to monitor potential CO contamination on CMB \Planck\ studies.

We present analyses to determine the fundamental parameters of the Galaxy based on VLBI astrometry of 52 Galactic maser sources obtained with VERA, VLBA and EVN. We model the Galaxy's structure with a set of parameters including the Galaxy center distance R_0, the angular rotation velocity at the LSR Omega_0, mean peculiar motion of the sources with respect to Galactic rotation (U_src, V_src, W_src), rotation-curve shape index, and the V component of the Solar peculiar motions V_sun. Based on a Markov chain Monte Carlo method, we find that the Galaxy center distance is constrained at a 5% level to be R_0 = 8.05 +/- 0.45 kpc, where the error bar includes both statistical and systematic errors. We also find that the two components of the source peculiar motion U_src and W_src are fairly small compared to the Galactic rotation velocity, being U_src = 1.0 +/- 1.5 km/s and W_src = -1.4 +/- 1.2 km/s. Also, the rotation curve shape is found to be basically flat between Galacto-centric radii of 4 and 13 kpc. On the other hand, we find a linear relation between V_src and V_sun as V_src = V_sun -19 (+/- 2) km/s, suggesting that the value of V_src is fully dependent on the adopted value of V_sun. Regarding the rotation speed in the vicinity of the Sun, we also find a strong correlation between Omega_0 and V_sun. We find that the angular velocity of the Sun, Omega_sun, which is defined as Omega_sun = Omega_0 + V_sun/R_0, can be well constrained with the best estimate of Omega_sun = 31.09 +/- 0.78 km/s/kpc. This corresponds to Theta_0 = 238 +/- 14 km/s if one adopts the above value of R_0 and recent determination of V_sun ~ 12 km/s.

We have carried out survey observations toward the Galactic plane at l~38 deg in the 12CO and 13CO J=1-0 lines using the Nobeyama Radio Observatory 45-m telescope. A wide area (0.8 x 0.8 deg) was mapped with high spatial resolution (17"). The line of sight samples the gas in both the Sagittarius arm and the inter-arm regions. The present observations reveal how the structure and physical conditions vary across a spiral arm. We classify the molecular gas in the line of sight into two distinct components based on its appearance: the bright and compact B component and the fainter and diffuse (i.e., more extended) D component. The B component is predominantly seen at the spiral arm velocities, while the D component dominates at the inter-arm velocities and is also found at the spiral arm velocities. We introduce the brightness distribution function and the brightness distribution index (BDI, which indicates the dominance of the B component) in order to quantify the map's appearance. The radial velocities of BDI peaks coincide with those of high 12CO J=3-2/12CO J=1-0 intensity ratio (i.e., warm gas) and H II regions, and tend to be offset from the line brightness peaks at lower velocities (i.e., presumably downstream side of the arm). Our observations reveal that the gas structure at small scales changes across a spiral arm: bright and spatially confined structures develop in a spiral arm, leading to star formation at downstream side, while extended emission dominates in the inter-arm region.

The molecular gas in these clumps has a similar gas kinetic temperature of 11--15 K and a line width of 1--2 km/s. However, they have different star formation activities such as the concentration of T-Tauri type stars and the association of H2O maser sources. We found that these star formation activities are related to the geometry of the HII region. The clump associated with the T-Tauri type star cluster has a high star formation efficiency of 36--62%. This clump is located near the boundary of the HII region and molecular cloud. Therefore, we suggest that the star formation efficiency increases because of the triggered star formation.

This distance places G48.61+0.02 in the Sagittarius-Carina arm and near the active star forming region and the supernova remnant W51. We also obtained the three dimensional motion of G48.61+0.02, and found that it has a large peculiar motion of 40+/-5 km/s. This peculiar motion would be originated with the multiple supernovae explosions in W51, or the streaming motion across the Sagittarius-Carina arm.

Using the 12CO(J = 1-0) data of Dame et al. As a result, a linear correlation between 12CO(J = 1-0) and 12CO(J = 2-1) and a curve correlation between 12CO(J = 2-1) and 13CO(J = 2-1), as produced by most of the data, are found. We investigate these correlations with simple radiative transfer equations to ascertain a number of restrictions on the physical quantities of molecular gas on a galactic scale.

We have performed the astrometry of H2O masers in the Galactic star-forming region Onsala 2 North (ON2N) with the VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry. We obtained the trigonometric parallax of 0.261+/-0.009 mas, corresponding to the heliocentric distance of 3.83+/-0.13 kpc. ON2N is expected to be on the solar circle, because its radial velocity with respect to the Local Standard of Rest (LSR) is nearly zero. Using present parallax and proper motions of the masers, the Galactocentric distance of the Sun and the Galactic rotation velocity at the Sun are found to be R_0 = 7.80+/-0.26 kpc and Theta_0 = 213+/-5 km/s, respectively. The ratio of Galactic constants, namely the angular rotation velocity of the LSR can be determined more precisely, and is found to be Omega_0=Theta_0/R_0 = 27.3+/-0.8 km/s/kpc, which is consistent with the recent estimations but different from 25.9 km/s/kpc derived from the recommended values of Theta_0 and R_0 by the International Astronomical Union (1985).

Due to its very high sensitivity, our CO(J=3-2) map can depict not only spiral arm structures but also spur-like substructures extended in inter-arm regions. This spur-like substructures in CO(J=3-2) emission are well coincident with the distribution of massive star forming regions traced by Halpha luminosity and Spitzer/IRAC 8 um emission. We have identified 54 CO(J=3-2) clumps as Giant Molecular-cloud Associations (GMAs) employing the CLUMPFIND algorithm, and have obtained their sizes, velocity dispersions, virial masses, and CO luminosity masses. We found that the virial parameter alpha, which is defined as the ratio of the virial mass to the CO luminosity mass, is almost unity for GMAs in spiral arms, whereas there exist some GMAs whose alpha are 3 -- 10 in the inter-arm region. We found that GMAs with higher $α$ tend not to be associated with massive star forming regions, while other virialized GMAs are. Since alpha mainly depends on velocity dispersion of the GMA, we suppose the onset of star formation in these unvirialized GMAs with higher alpha are suppressed by an increase in internal velocity dispersions of Giant Molecular Clouds within these GMAs due to shear motion.

It is an open question why the temperature of molecular gas in the Galactic center region is higher than that of dust. To address this problem, we made simultaneous observations in the NH_3 (J,K) = (1,1), (2,2), and (3,3) lines of the central molecular zone (CMZ) using the Kagoshima 6 m telescope. The ortho-to-para ratio of NH_3 molecules in the CMZ is 1.5--3.5 at most observed area. This ratio is higher than the statistical equilibrium value, and suggests that the formation temperature of NH_3 is 11--20 K. This temperature is similar to the dust temperature estimated from the submillimeter and infrared continuum. This result suggests that the NH_3 molecules in the CMZ were produced on dust grains with the currently observed temperature (11--20 K), and they were released into the gas phase by supernova shocks or collisions of dust particles. The discrepancy between warm molecular gas and cold dust can be explained by the transient heating of the interstellar media in the CMZ approximately 10^5 years ago when the NH_3 molecules were released from the dust.

We present aperture synthesis high-resolution (~ 7" x 3") observations in CO(J=1-0) line, HCN(J=1-0) line, and 95 GHz continuum emission toward the central (~ 1.5 kpc) region of the nearby barred spiral galaxy M 83 with the Nobeyama Millimeter Array. Our high-resolution CO(J=1-0) mosaic map depicts the presence of molecular ridges along the leading sides of the stellar bar and nuclear twin peak structure. On the other hand, we found the distribution of the HCN(J=1-0) line emission which traces dense molecular gas (nH2 > a few x 10^4 cm^-3) shows nuclear single peak structure and coincides well with that of the 95 GHz continuum emission which traces massive starburst. The peaks of the HCN(J=1-0) line and the 95 GHz continuum emission are not spatially coincident with the optical starburst regions traced by the HST V-band image. This suggests the existence of deeply buried ongoing starburst due to strong extinction (A_v ~ 5 mag) near the peaks of the HCN(J=1-0) line and the 95 GHz continuum emission. We found that the HCN(J=1-0)/CO(J=1-0) intensity ratio R_HCN/CO correlates well with extinction-corrected SFE in the central region of M 83 at a resolution of 7.5" (~ 160 pc). This suggests that SFE is controlled by dense gas fraction traced by R_HCN/CO even on a Giant Molecular cloud Association (GMA) scale. Moreover, the correlation between R_HCN/CO and the SFE in the central region of M 83 seems to be almost coincident with that of the Gao & Solomon (2004a) sample. This suggests that the correlation between R_HCN/CO and the SFE on a GMA (~ 160 pc) scale found in M 83 is the origin of the global correlation on a few kpc scale shown by Gao & Solomon (2004a).

We present the results of the multi-frequency observations of radio outburst of the microquasar Cyg X-3 in February and March 2006 with the Nobeyama 45-m telescope, the Nobeyama Millimeter Array, and the Yamaguchi 32-m telescope. Since the prediction of a flare by RATAN-600, the source has been monitored from Jan 27 (UT) with these radio telescopes. At the eighteenth day after the quench of the activity, successive flares exceeding 1 Jy were observed successfully. The time scale of the variability in the active phase is presumably shorter in higher frequency bands.
We also present the result of a follow-up VLBI observation at 8.4 GHz with the Japanese VLBI Network (JVN) 2.6 days after the first rise. The VLBI image exhibits a single core with a size of <8 mas (80 AU). The observed image was almost stable, although the core showed rapid variation in flux density. No jet structure was seen at a sensitivity of $T_b = 7.5\times 10^5$ K.

We present a map of the major part of the central molecular zone (CMZ) of simultaneous observations in the NH3 (J,K) = (1,1) and (2,2) lines using the Kagoshima 6-m telescope. The mapped area is -1.000 < l < 1.625 deg, -0.375 < b < +0.250 deg. The kinetic temperatures derived from the (2,2) to (1,1) intensity ratios are 20--80 K or exceed 80 K. The gases corresponding to temperature of 20--80 K and > 80 K contain 75% and 25% of the total NH3 flux, respectively. These temperatures indicate that the dense molecular gas in the CMZ is dominated by gas that is warmer than the majority of the dust present there. A comparison with the CO survey by Sawada et al. (2001) shows that the NH3 emitting region is surrounded by a high pressure region on the l-v plane. Although NH3 emission traces dense gas, it is not extended into a high pressure region. Therefore, the high pressure region is less dense and has to be hotter. This indicates that the molecular cloud complex in the Galactic center region has a ``core'' of dense and warm clouds which are traced by the NH3 emission, and an ``envelope'' of less dense and hotter gas clouds. Besides heating by ambipolar diffusion, the hot plasma gas emitting the X-ray emission may heat the hot ``envelope''.

Abstract:

We have upgraded the 60-cm radio survey telescope located in Nobeyama, Japan. We developed a new waveguide-type sideband-separating SIS mixer for the telescope, which enables the simultaneous detection of distinct molecular emission lines both in the upper and lower sidebands. Over the RF frequency range of 205-240 GHz, the single-sideband receiver noise temperatures of the new mixer are 40-100 K for the 4.0-8.0 GHz IF frequency band. The image rejection ratios are greater than 10 dB over the same range. For the dual IF signals obtained by the receiver, we have developed two sets of acousto-optical spectrometers and a telescope control system. Using the new telescope system, we successfully detected the 12CO (J=2-1) and 13CO (J=2-1) emission lines simultaneously toward Orion KL in 2005 March. Using the waveguide-type sideband-separating SIS mixer for the 200 GHz band, we have initiated the first simultaneous 12CO (J=2-1) and 13CO (J=2-1) survey of the galactic plane as well as large-scale map** observations of nearby molecular clouds.

Abstract:
We obtained the first view in H$^{13}$CO$^+$ $J=1-0$ and a high resolution map in thermal SiO lines of G0.11$-$0.11, which is a molecular cloud situated between the Galactic Center radio arc and Sgr A. From a comparison with previous line observations, we found that the H$^{13}$CO$^+$ $J=1-0$ line is optically thin, whereas the thermal SiO lines are optically thick. The line intensity in H…

The line intensity in H$^{13}$CO$^+$ $J=1-0$ shows that the cloud has a large column density, up to $N(\mathrm{H}_2)=(6-7)\times10^{23} \mathrm{cm^{-2}}$, which corresponds to about 640--740 mag in $A_{\mathrm{V}}$ or 10--12 mag in $A_{25μ\mathrm{m}}$. The estimated column density is the largest known of any even in the Galactic center region. We conclude from the intensity ratio of SiO $J=1-0$ to CS $J=1-0$ that emitting gas is highly inhomogeneous for SiO abundance on a scale smaller than the beam width $\sim$35\arcsec.

Abstract:
Cosmic-ray background fluxes were modeled based on existing measurements and theories and are presented here. Cosmic-ray background fluxes were modeled based on existing measurements and theories and are presented here. The model, originally developed for the Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST) Balloon Experiment, covers the entire solid angle (${\rm 4πsr}$), the sensitive energy range of the instrument (${\rm \sim 10 MeV to 100 GeV}$) and abundant components (proton, alpha, $e^{-}$, $e^{+}$, $μ^{-}$, $μ^{+}$ and gamma). It is expressed in analytic functions in which modulations due to the solar activity and the Earth geomagnetism are parameterized. Although the model is intended to be used primarily for the GLAST Balloon Experiment, model functions in low-Earth orbit are also presented and can be used for other high energy astrophysical missions. The model has been validated via comparison with the data of the GLAST Balloon Experiment.

We present a method to derive positions of molecular clouds along the lines of sight from a quantitative comparison between 2.6 mm CO emission lines and 18 cm OH absorption lines, and apply it to the central kiloparsecs of the Milky Way. With some simple but justifiable assumptions, we derive a face-on distribution of the CO brightness and corresponding radial velocity in the Galactic centre without any help of kinematical models. The derived face-on distribution of the gas is elongated and inclined so that the Galactic-eastern (positive longitude) side is closer to us. The gas distribution is dominated by a barlike central condensation, whose apparent size is 500x200 pc. A ridge feature is seen to stretch from one end of the central condensation, though its elongated morphology might be artificial. The velocity field shows clear signs of noncircular motion in the central condensation. The `expanding molecular ring' feature corresponds to the peripheral region surrounding the central condensation with the Galactic-eastern end being closer to us. These characteristics agree with a picture in which the kinematics of the gas in the central kiloparsec of the Galaxy is under a strong influence of a barred potential. The face-on distribution of the in situ pressure of the molecular gas is derived from the CO multiline analysis. The derived pressure is found to be highest in the central 100 pc. In this region, the gas is accumulating and is forming stars.

We present the results of the CO map** observations of the barred spiral galaxy NGC3504 with the Nobeyama 45-m telescope. The distribution of the molecular gas shows offset ridges which correspond to the distribution of HII regions along the bar. The velocity perpendicular to the bar decreases abruptly at the ridge. The velocity change implies that the molecular gas changes the direction of its motion to parallel to the bar at the ridge. Since the position angle of the major axis of the bar and the line of nodes are almost the same in NGC 3504, an upper limit to the pattern speed of the bar can be derived directly from the radial velocity. The resultant upper limit is 41 km/s/kpc which is much smaller than that derived with an assumption that the corotation radius is located at the end of the bar (77 km/s/kpc). The corotaion radius derived from our upper limit is more than two times larger than the length of the semi-major axis of the bar in NGC 3504.
