The article considers lattices of the two-dimensional Toda type, which can be interpreted as dressing chains for spatially two-dimensional generalizations of equations of the class of nonlinear Schrödinger equations. The well-known example of this kind of generalization is the Davey-Stewartson equation. It turns out that the finite-field reductions of these lattices, obtained by imposing cutoff boundary conditions of an appropriate type, are Darboux integrable, i.e., they have complete sets of characteristic integrals. An algorithm for constructing complete sets of characteristic integrals of finite field systems using Lax pairs and Miura-type transformations is discussed.

The classification algorithm is based on the well-known fact that the characteristic algebras of Darboux integrable systems have a finite dimension. In this paper, we used the characteristic algebra in the direction $x$, whose structure for a given class of models is determined by some polynomial $P(λ)$, whose degree does not exceed three for known examples. The article assumes that $P(λ)=λ^2$, in this case the classification problem is reduced to finding eight unknown functions of one variable. In the paper, a rather narrow class of candidates for integrability is obtained, among which there is a new example of an integrable chain.

The connection between the Laplace method and soliton equations of hyperbolic type remains less studied. The article shows that the Laplace cascade also has important applications in the theory of hyperbolic equations of the soliton type. Laplace's method provides a simple way to construct such fundamental objects related to integrability theory as the recursion operator, the Lax pair and Dubrovin-type equations, allowing one to find algebro-geometric solutions. As an application of this approach, previously unknown recursion operators and Lax pairs are found for two nonlinear integrable equations of the sine-Gordon type.

The article discusses a new method for constructing algebro-geometric solutions of nonlinear integrable lattices, based on the concept of a generalized invariant manifold (GIM). In contrast to the finite-gap integration method, instead of the eigenfunctions of the Lax operators, we use a joint solution of the linearized equation and GIM. This makes it possible to derive Dubrovin type equations not only in the time variable $t$, but also in the spatial discrete variable $n$. We illustrate the efficiency of the method using the Ruijsenaars-Toda lattice as an example, for which we have derived a real and bounded particular solution in the form of a kink, a periodic solution expressed in terms of Jacobi elliptic functions and a solution expressed through Weierstrass $\wp$-function.

In the article we discuss the notion of the generalized invariant manifold introduced in our previous study. In the literature the method of the differential constraints is well known as a tool for constructing particular solutions for the nonlinear partial differential equations. Its essence is in adding to the nonlinear PDE, a much simpler, as a rule ordinary, differential equation, compatible with the given one. Then any solution of the ODE is a particular solution of the PDE as well. However the main problem is to find this compatible ODE. Our generalization is that we look for an ordinary differential equation that is compatible not with the nonlinear partial differential equation itself, but with its linearization. Such a generalized invariant manifold is effectively sought. Moreover, it allows one to construct such important attributes of integrability theory as Lax pairs and recursion operators for integrable nonlinear equations. In this paper, we show that they provide a way to construct particular solutions to the equation as well.

The purpose of this article is to develop an algebraic approach to the problem of integrable classification of differential-difference equations with one continuous and two discrete variables. As a classification criterion, we put forward the following hypothesis. Any integrable equation of the type under consideration admits an infinite sequence of finite-field Darboux-integrable reductions. The property of Darboux integrability of a finite-field system is formalized as finite-dimensionality condition of its characteristic Lie-Rinehart algebras. That allows one to derive effective integrability conditions in the form of differential equations on the right hand side of the equation under study. To test the hypothesis, we use known integrable equations from the class under consideration. In this article, we show that all known examples do have this property.

In the article differential-difference (semi-discrete) lattices of hyperbolic type are investigated from the integrability viewpoint. More precisely we concentrate on a method for constructing generalized symmetries. This kind integrable lattices admit two hierarchies of generalized symmetries corresponding to the discrete and continuous independent variables $n$ and $x$. Symmetries corresponding to the direction of $n$ are constructed in a more or less standard way while when constructing symmetries of the other form we meet a problem of solving a functional equation. We have shown that to handle with this equation one can effectively use the concept of characteristic Lie-Rinehart algebras of semi-discrete models. Based on this observation, we have proposed a classification method for integrable semi-discrete lattices. One of the interesting results of this work is a new example of an integrable equation, which is a semi-discrete analogue of the Tzizeica equation. Such examples were not previously known.

Earlier it has been observed that this kind objects provide an effective tool for evaluating the recursion operators and Lax pairs. In this article we show with an example of the Volterra chain that the generalized invariant manifold can be used for constructing exact particular solutions as well. To this end we first find an invariant manifold depending on two constant parameters. Then we assume that ordinary difference equation defining the generalized invariant manifold has a solution polynomially depending on one of the spectral parameters and derive ordinary difference and differential equations, for the roots of the polynomials. A class of discrete exponential systems connected with the Cartan matrices has been suggested earlier in \cite{GHY} which coincide with the corresponding Drinfeld-Sokolov systems in the continuum limit. It was conjectured that the systems in this class are all integrable and the conjecture has been approved by numerous examples. In the present article we study those systems from this class which are related to the algebras $A^{(1)}_{N-1}$. We found the Lax pair for arbitrary $N$, briefly discussed the possibility of using the method of formal diagonalization of Lax operators for describing a series of local conservation laws and illustrated the technique using the example of $N=3$. Higher symmetries of the system $A^{(1)}_{N-1}$ are presented in both characteristic directions. Found recursion operator for $N=3$. In the article a classification method for nonlinear integrable equations with three independent variables is discussed based on the notion of the integrable reductions. We call the equation integrable if it admits a large class of reductions being Darboux integrable systems of hyperbolic type equations with two independent variables. The most natural and convenient object to be studied within the frame of this scheme is the class of two dimensional lattices generalizing the well-known Toda lattice. In the present article we deal with the quasilinear lattices of the form $u_{n,xy}=α(u_{n+1} ,u_n,u_{n-1} )u_{n,x}u_{n,y} + β(u_{n+1},u_n,u_{n-1})u_{n,x}+γ(u_{n+1} ,u_n,u_{n-1} )u_{n,y}+δ(u_{n+1} ,u_n,u_{n-1})$. We specify the coefficients of the lattice assuming that there exist cutting off conditions which reduce the lattice to a Darboux integrable hyperbolic type system of the arbitrarily high order. Under some extra assumption of nondegeneracy we described the class of the lattices integrable in the sense indicated above. There are new examples in the obtained list of chains.

We suggest a direct algorithm for searching the Lax pairs for nonlinear integrable equations. It is effective for both continuous and discrete models. The first operator of the Lax pair corresponding to a given nonlinear equation is found immediately, coinciding with the linearization of the considered nonlinear equation. The second one is obtained as an invariant manifold to the linearized equation. A surprisingly simple relation between the second operator of the Lax pair and the recursion operator is discussed: the recursion operator can immediately be found from the Lax pair. Examples considered in the article are convincing evidence that the found Lax pairs differ from the classical ones. The examples also show that the suggested objects are true Lax pairs which allow the construction of infinite series of conservation laws and hierarchies of higher symmetries. In the case of the hyperbolic type partial differential equation our algorithm is slightly modified; in order to construct the Lax pairs from the invariant manifolds we use the cutting off conditions for the corresponding infinite Laplace sequence. The efficiency of the method is illustrated by application to some equations given in the Svinolupov-Sokolov classification list for which the Lax pairs and the recursion operators have not been found earlier.

We study the generalized symmetry structure of three known discrete nonautonomous equations. One of them is the semidiscrete dressing chain of Shabat. Two others are completely discrete equations defined on the square lattice. The first one is a discrete analogue of the dressing chain introduced by Levi and Yamilov. The second one is a nonautonomous generalization of the potential discrete KdV equation or, in other words, the H1 equation of the well-known Adler-Bobenko-Suris list. We demonstrate that these equations have generalized symmetries in both directions if and only if their coefficients, depending on the discrete variables, are periodic. The order of the simplest generalized symmetry in at least one direction depends on the period and may be arbitrarily high. We substantiate this picture by some theorems in the case of small periods. In case of an arbitrarily large period, we show that it is possible to construct two hierarchies of generalized symmetries and conservation laws. The same picture should take place in case of any nonautonomous equation of the Adler-Bobenko-Suris list.

Integrable initial boundary value problems
Authors:
I. T. Habibullin
Abstract:
The problem of searching boundary value problems for soliton equations consistent with the integrability property is discussed. A method of describing integrals of motion for the integrable initial boundary value problems for the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation is suggested via Green identity.

Abstract:
The initial boundary value problem on a half-line for the KdV equation with the boundary conditions $u|_{x=0}=a\leq0$, $u_{xx}|_{x=0}=3a^2$ is integrated by means of the inverse scattering method. In order to find the time evolution of the scattering matrix it turned out to be sufficient to solve the Riemann problem on a hyperelliptic curve of genus two, where the conjugation matrices are effect…

Abstract:
Integrable boundary conditions in 1+1 and 2+1 dimensions are discussed from the higher symmetries point of view. Boundary conditions consistent with the discrete Landau-Lifshitz model and infinite 2D Toda lattice are represented.

Symmetry approach in boundary value problems
Authors:
I. T. Habibullin
Abstract:
The problem of construction of the boundary conditions for nonlinear equations is considered compatible with their higher symmetries. Boundary conditions for the sine-Gordon, Jiber-Shabat and KdV equations are discussed. New examples are found for the Jiber-Shabat equation.

The problem of construction of the boundary conditions for the Toda lattice compatible with its higher symmetries is considered. It is demonstrated that this problem is reduced to finding of the differential constraints consistent with the ZS-AKNS hierarchy. A method of their construction is offered based on the Bäcklund transformations. It is shown that the generalized Toda lattices corresponding to the non-exceptional Lie algebras of finite growth can be obtained by imposing one of the four simplest integrable boundary conditions on the both ends of the lattice. This fact allows, in particular, to solve the problem of reduction of the series $A$ Toda lattices into the series $D$ ones. Deformations of the found boundary conditions are presented which leads to the Painlevé type equations.
