We investigated the viability of using Large Language Models (LLMs) for triggering and personalizing content for Just-in-Time Adaptive Interventions (JITAIs) in digital health. JITAIs are being explored as a key mechanism for sustainable behavior change, adapting interventions to an individual's current context and needs. However, traditional rule-based and machine learning models for JITAI implementation face scalability and flexibility limitations, such as lack of personalization, difficulty in managing multi-parametric systems, and issues with data sparsity. To investigate JITAI implementation via LLMs, we tested the contemporary overall performance-leading model 'GPT-4' with examples grounded in the use case of fostering heart-healthy physical activity in outpatient cardiac rehabilitation. Three personas and five sets of context information per persona were used as a basis of triggering and personalizing JITAIs. Subsequently, we generated a total of 450 proposed JITAI decisions and message content, divided equally into JITAIs generated by 10 iterations with GPT-4, a baseline provided by 10 laypersons (LayPs), and a gold standard set by 10 healthcare professionals (HCPs). Ratings from 27 LayPs and 11 HCPs indicated that JITAIs generated by GPT-4 were superior to those by HCPs and LayPs over all assessed scales: i.e., appropriateness, engagement, effectiveness, and professionality. This study indicates that LLMs have significant potential for implementing JITAIs as a building block of personalized or "precision" health, offering scalability, effective personalization based on opportunistically sampled information, and good acceptability.

Solvable matrix product and projected entangled pair states evolved by dual and ternary-unitary quantum circuits have analytically accessible correlation functions. Here, we investigate the influence of disorder. Specifically, we compute the average behavior of a physically motivated two-point equal-time correlation function with respect to random disordered solvable tensor network states arising from the Haar measure on the unitary group. By employing the Weingarten calculus, we provide an exact analytical expression for the average of the $k$th moment of the correlation function. The complexity of the expression scales with $k!$ and is independent of the complexity of the underlying tensor network state. Our result implies that the correlation function vanishes on average, while its covariance is nonzero.

Eye lens dosimetry has been an important field of research in the last decade. Dose measurements with a prototype of an active personal eye lens dosemeter based on the Dosepix detector are presented. The personal dose equivalent at $3\,$mm depth of soft tissue, $H_\text{p}(3)$, was measured in the center front of a water-filled cylinder phantom with a height and diameter of $20\,$cm. The energy dependence of the normalized response is investigated for mean photon energies between $12.4\,$keV and $248\,$keV for continuous reference radiation fields (N-series) according to ISO 4037. The response normalized to N-60 ($\overline{E}=47.9\,\text{keV}$) at $0^\circ$ angle of irradiation stays within the approval limits of IEC 61526 for angles of incidence between $-75^\circ$ and $+75^\circ$. Performance in pulsed photon fields was tested for varying dose rates from $0.1\,\frac{\text{Sv}}{\text{h}}$ up to $1000\,\frac{\text{Sv}}{\text{h}}$ and pulse durations from $1\,\text{ms}$ up to $10\,\text{s}$. The dose measurement works well within the approval limits (acc. to IEC 61526) up to $1\,\frac{\text{Sv}}{\text{h}}$. No significant influence of the pulse duration on the measured dose is found. Reproducibility measurements yield a coefficient of variation which does not exceed $1\,\%$ for two tested eye lens dosemeter prototypes.

The complexity of quantum many-body systems is manifested in the vast diversity of their correlations, making it challenging to distinguish the generic from the atypical features. This can be addressed by analyzing correlations through ensembles of random states, chosen to faithfully embody the relevant physical properties. Here, we focus on spins with local interactions, whose correlations are extremely well captured by tensor network states. Adopting an operational perspective, we define ensembles of random tensor network states in one and two spatial dimensions that admit a sequential generation. As such, they directly correspond to outputs of quantum circuits with a sequential architecture and random gates. In one spatial dimension, the ensemble explores the entire family of matrix product states, while in two spatial dimensions, it corresponds to random isometric tensor network states. We extract the scaling behavior of the average correlations between two subsystems as a function of their distance. Using elementary concentration results, we then deduce the typical case for measures of correlation such as the von Neumann mutual information and a measure arising from the Hilbert-Schmidt norm. We find for all considered cases that the typical behavior is an exponential decay (for both one and two spatial dimensions). We observe the consistent emergence of a correlation length that depends only on the underlying spatial dimension and not the considered measure. Remarkably, increasing the bond dimension leads to a higher correlation length in one spatial dimension but has the opposite effect in two spatial dimensions.

First investigations regarding dosimetric properties of the hybrid, pixelated, photon-counting Dosepix detector in the direct beam of a pulsed photon field (RQR8) for the personal dose equivalent $H\mathrm{_p(10)}$ are presented. The influence quantities such as pulse duration and dose rate were varied, and their responses were compared to the legal limits provided in PTB-A 23.2. The variation of pulse duration at a nearly constant dose rate of about 3.7$\,$Sv/h shows a flat response around 1.0 from 3.6$\,$s down to 2$\,$ms. A response close to 1.0 is achieved for dose rates from 0.07$\,$Sv/h to 35$\,$Sv/h for both pixel sizes. Above this dose rate, the large pixels (220$\,μ$m edge length) are below the lower limit. The small pixels (55$\,μ$m edge length) stay within limits up to 704$\,$Sv/h. The count rate linearity is compared to previous results, confirming the saturating count rate for high dose rates.

In this work we apply this method to rotating Bose-Einstein condensates with contact interaction which are known to support ground states with vortices. Due to the particle exchange with the environment transport phenomena through ultracold gases with vortices can be studied. We find that even strongly interacting rotating systems support stable PT-symmetric ground states, sustaining a current parallel and perpendicular to the vortex cores. The vortices move through the non-uniform particle density and leave or enter the condensate through its borders creating the required net current.

Bose-Einstein condensates with balanced gain and loss can support stationary states despite the exchange of particles with the environment. In the mean-field approximation this is described by the PT-symmetric Gross-Pitaevskii equation with real eigenvalues. In this work we study the role of stationary states in the appropriate many-particle description. It is shown that without particle interaction there exist two non-oscillating trajectories which can be interpreted as the many-particle equivalent of the stationary PT-symmetric mean-field states. Furthermore the system has a non-equilibrium steady state which acts as an attractor in the oscillating regime. This steady state is a pure condensate for strong gain and loss contributions if the interaction between the particles is sufficiently weak.

Most of the work done in the field of Bose-Einstein condensates with balanced gain and loss has been performed in the mean-field approximation using the PT-symmetric Gross-Pitaevskii equation. In this work we study the many-particle dynamics of a two-mode condensate with balanced gain and loss described by a master equation in Lindblad form whose purity periodically drops to small values but then is nearly completely restored. This effect cannot be covered by the mean-field approximation, in which a completely pure condensate is assumed. We present analytic solutions for the dynamics in the non-interacting limit and use the Bogoliubov backreaction method to discuss the influence of the on-site interaction. Our main result is that the strength of the purity revivals is almost exclusively determined by the strength of the gain and loss and is independent of the amount of particles in the system and the interaction strength. For larger particle numbers, however, strong revivals are shifted towards longer times, but by increasing the interaction strength these strong revivals again occur earlier.

The degeneracy complicates the question, whether or not a stationary current through such a system can be established, i.e.\ whether or not the $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric states are stable. It is shown that this is only the case for perturbations that do not couple to any of the degenerate states. The physical explanation for the inhibition of stable currents is discussed. However, introducing an on-site interaction restores the capability to support stable currents.

A Bose-Einstein condensate in a double-well potential features stationary solutions even for attractive contact interaction as long as the particle number and therefore the interaction strength do not exceed a certain limit. Introducing balanced gain and loss into such a system drastically changes the bifurcation scenario at which these states are created. Instead of two tangent bifurcations at which the symmetric and antisymmetric states emerge, one tangent bifurcation between two formerly independent branches arises [D. Haag et al., Phys. Rev. A 89, 023601 (2014)]. We study this transition in detail using a bicomplex formulation of the time-dependent variational principle and find that in fact there are three tangent bifurcations for very small gain-loss contributions which coalesce in a cusp bifurcation.

It is shown that the characteristic properties of PT-symmetric systems, such as the existence of stationary states and the phase shift of pulses between two lattice sites, are also found in the many-particle system. Visualizing the dynamics on a Bloch sphere allows us to compare the complete dynamics of the master equation with that of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation. We find that even for a relatively small number of particles the dynamics are in excellent agreement and the master equation with balanced gain and loss is indeed an appropriate many-particle description of a PT-symmetric Bose-Einstein condensate.

We show that the property of a similar non-dipolar condensate to possess real energy eigenvalues in certain parameter ranges is preserved despite the inclusion of this nonlinear interaction. Furthermore, we present states that break the PT symmetry and investigate the stability of the distinct stationary solutions. In our dynamical simulations we reveal a complex stabilization mechanism for PT-symmetric, as well as for PT-broken states which are, in principle, unstable with respect to small perturbations.

We consider the linear and nonlinear Schrödinger equation for a Bose-Einstein condensate in a harmonic trap with $\cal {PT}$-symmetric double-delta function loss and gain terms. We verify that the conditions for the applicability of a recent proposition by Mityagin and Siegl on singular perturbations of harmonic oscillator type self-adjoint operators are fulfilled. In both the linear and nonlinear case we calculate numerically the shifts of the unperturbed levels with quantum numbers $n$ of up to 89 in dependence on the strength of the non-Hermiticity and compare with rigorous estimates derived by those authors. We confirm that the predicted $1/n^{1/2}$ estimate provides a valid upper bound on the the shrink rate of the numerical eigenvalues. Moreover, we find that a more recent estimate of $\log(n)/n^{3/2}$ is in excellent agreement with the numerical results. With nonlinearity the shrink rates are found to be smaller than without nonlinearity, and the rigorous estimates, derived only for the linear case, are no longer applicable.

A Bose-Einstein condensate trapped in a double-well potential, where atoms are incoupled to one side and extracted from the other, can in the mean-field limit be described by the nonlinear Gross-Pitaevskii equation (GPE) with a $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetric external potential. If the strength of the in- and outcoupling is increased two $\mathcal{PT}$ broken states bifurcate from the $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetric ground state. At this bifurcation point a stability change of the ground state is expected. However, it is observed that this stability change does not occur exactly at the bifurcation but at a slightly different strength of the in-/outcoupling effect. We investigate a Bose-Einstein condensate in a $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetric double-$δ$ potential and calculate the stationary states. The ground state's stability is analysed by means of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations and it is shown that the difference in the strength of the in-/outcoupling between the bifurcation and the stability change can be completely explained by the norm-dependency of the nonlinear term in the Gross-Pitaevskii equation.

We study a Bose-Einstein condensate in a PT-symmetric double-well potential where particles are coherently injected in one well and removed from the other well. In mean-field approximation the condensate is described by the Gross-Pitaevskii equation thus falling into the category of nonlinear non-Hermitian quantum systems. After extending the concept of PT symmetry to such systems, we apply an analytic continuation to the Gross-Pitaevskii equation from complex to bicomplex numbers and show a thorough numerical investigation of the four-dimensional bicomplex eigenvalue spectrum. The continuation introduces additional symmetries to the system which are confirmed by the numerical calculations and furthermore allows us to analyze the bifurcation scenarios and exceptional points of the system. We present a linear matrix model and show the excellent agreement with our numerical results. The matrix model includes both exceptional points found in the double-well potential, namely an EP2 at the tangent bifurcation and an EP3 at the pitchfork bifurcation. When the two bifurcation points coincide the matrix model possesses four degenerate eigenvectors. Close to that point we observe the characteristic features of four interacting modes in both the matrix model and the numerical calculations, which provides clear evidence for the existence of an EP4.

The time-independent nonlinear Schrödinger equation is solved for two attractive delta-function shaped potential wells where an imaginary loss term is added in one well, and a gain term of the same size but with opposite sign in the other. We show that for vanishing nonlinearity the model captures all the features known from studies of PT symmetric optical wave guides, e.g., the coalescence of modes in an exceptional point at a critical value of the loss/gain parameter, and the breaking of PT symmetry beyond. With the nonlinearity present, the equation is a model for a Bose-Einstein condensate with loss and gain in a double well potential. We find that the nonlinear Hamiltonian picks as stationary eigenstates exactly such solutions which render the nonlinear Hamiltonian itself PT symmetric, but observe coalescence and bifurcation scenarios different from those known from linear PT symmetric Hamiltonians.
