The Planar Turán Number of $Θ_6$-graphs
Abstract: There are two particular $Θ_6$-graphs - the 6-cycle graphs with a diagonal. We find the planar Turán number of each of them, i.e. the maximum number of edges in a planar graph $G$ of $n$ vertices not containing the given $Θ_6$ as a subgraph and we find infinitely many extremal constructions showing the sharpness of these results - apart from a small additive constant error in one of the cases.

Generalized planar Turán numbers related to short cycles
Abstract: Given two graphs $H$ and $F$, the generalized planar Turán number $\mathrm{ex}_\mathcal{P}(n,H,F)$ is the maximum number of copies of $H$ that an $n$-vertex $F$-free planar graph can have. We investigate this function when $H$ and $F$ are short cycles. Namely, for large $n$, we find the exact value of $\mathrm{ex}_\mathcal{P}(n, C_l,C_3)$, where $C_l$ is a cycle of length $l$, for $4\leq l\leq 6$,… ▽ More

Jones' conjecture for Halin graphs and a bit more
Abstract: We prove Jones' famous conjecture for Halin graphs and a somewhat more general class of graphs too. A based planar graph is a planar one that has a face adjacent to every other face. We confirm Jones' conjecture for based planar graphs. Namely, if a based planar graph does not contain $k+1$ vertex-disjoint cycles, then it suffices to delete $2k$ vertices to make it acyclic.

Wiener Index of Quadrangulation Graphs
Abstract: The Wiener index of a graph $G$, denoted $W(G)$, is the sum of the distances between all pairs of vertices in $G$. É. Czabarka, et al. conjectured that for an $n$-vertex, $n\geq 4$, simple quadrangulation graph $G$, \begin{equation*}W(G)\leq \begin{cases} \frac{1}{12}n^3+\frac{7}{6}n-2, &\text{ $n\equiv 0~(mod \ 2)$,}\\ \frac{1}{12}n^3+\frac{11}{12}n-1, &\text{ $n\equiv 1~(mod \ 2)$}. \end{cases… ▽ More

The Maximum Wiener Index of Maximal Planar Graphs
Abstract: The Wiener index of a connected graph is the sum of the distances between all pairs of vertices in the graph. It was conjectured that the Wiener index of an $n$-vertex maximal planar graph is at most $\lfloor\frac{1}{18}(n^3+3n^2)\rfloor$. We prove this conjecture and for every $n$, $n \geq 10$, determine the unique $n$-vertex maximal planar graph for which this maximum is attained.

On L(2,1)-labelings of some products of oriented cycles
Abstract: We refine two results of Jiang, Shao and Vesel on the $L(2,1)$-labeling number $λ$ of the Cartesian and the strong product of two oriented cycles. For the Cartesian product, we compute the exact value of $λ(\overrightarrow{C_m} \square \overrightarrow{C_n})$ for $m$, $n \geq 40$; in the case of strong product, we either compute the exact value or establish a gap of size one for… ▽ More

Minimal colorings for properly colored subgraphs in complete graphs
Abstract: Let $pr(K_{n}, G)$ be the maximum number of colors in an edge-coloring of $K_{n}$ with no properly colored copy of $G$. In this paper, we show that $pr(K_{n}, G)-ex(n, \mathcal{G'})=o(n^{2}), $ where $\mathcal{G'}=\{G-M: M \text{ is a matching of }G\}$. Furthermore, we determine the value of $pr(K_{n}, P_{l})$ for $l\ge 27$ and $n\ge 2l^{3}$ and the exact value of $pr(K_{n}, G)$, where $G$ is… ▽ More

Connected Hypergraphs without long Berge paths
Abstract: We generalize a result of Balister, Gy{ő}ri, Lehel and Schelp for hypergraphs. We determine the unique extremal structure of an $n$-vertex, $r$-uniform, connected, hypergraph with the maximum number of hyperedges, without a $k$-Berge-path, where $n \geq N_{k,r}$, $k\geq 2r+13>17$.

The Maximum Number of Paths of Length Three in a Planar Graph
Abstract: Let $f(n,H)$ denote the maximum number of copies of $H$ possible in an $n$-vertex planar graph. The function $f(n,H)$ has been determined when $H$ is a cycle of length $3$ or $4$ by Hakimi and Schmeichel and when $H$ is a complete bipartite graph with smaller part of size 1 or 2 by Alon and Caro. We determine $f(n,H)$ exactly in the case when $H$ is a path of length 3.

The Maximum Number of Pentagons in a Planar Graph
Abstract: In 1979, Hakimi and Schmeichel considered the problem of maximizing the number of cycles of a given length in an $n$-vertex planar graph. They precisely determined the maximum number of triangles and $4$-cycles and presented a conjecture for the maximum number of pentagons. In this work, we confirm their conjecture. Even more, we characterize the $n$-vertex, planar graphs with the maximum number o… ▽ More
