Measurement of the branching fraction of the decay $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η$

Abstract: A high precision measurement of the branching fraction of the decay $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η$ is performed using $(10 087 \pm 44) \times 10^6$ $J/ψ$ events recorded by the {BESIII} detector at the {BEPCII} storage ring. The branching fractions of the two decays $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to γγ)$ and $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to π^+ π^- π^0)$ are measured individually to be… ▽ More A high precision measurement of the branching fraction of the decay $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η$ is performed using $(10 087 \pm 44) \times 10^6$ $J/ψ$ events recorded by the {BESIII} detector at the {BEPCII} storage ring. The branching fractions of the two decays $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to γγ)$ and $J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to π^+ π^- π^0)$ are measured individually to be $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to γγ)) = (1.480 \pm 0.001 \pm 0.024)\times\,10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η(η\to π^+ π^- π^0)) = (1.557 \pm 0.003 \pm 0.038)\times\,10^{-3}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Both results are compatible within their uncorrelated systematic uncertainties. The combined result is $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to p \bar{p} η)=(1.495 \pm 0.001 \pm 0.023)\times\,10^{-3}$ where the first uncertainty is the combined statistical uncertainty and the second one the combined systematic uncertainty of both analyses, incorporating correlations between them. In addition, the $p \bar{p}$ threshold region is investigated for a potential threshold enhancement, and no evidence for one is observed. △ Less

Abstract: Using $(27.12\pm 0.14)\times10^8$ $ψ(3686)$ decays and data samples of $e^+e^-$ collisions with $\sqrt{s}$ from 4.130 to 4.780~GeV collected with the BESIII detector, we report the first observation of the electromagnetic Dalitz transition $h_c\to e^+e^-η_c$ with a statistical significance of $5.4σ$. Abstract: Analyzing $e^+e^-$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $7.33~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226~GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the branching fraction of the semileptonic decay $D^+_{s}\to K^0 e^+ν_e$ to be $(2.98\pm0.23\pm0.12)\times10^{-3}$. The $D_s^+\to K^0$ hadronic form factor is determined from the differential decay rate of $D^+_s\to K^0 e^+ν_e$ to be $f^{K^0}_+(0)=0.636\pm0.049\pm0.013$. For both measurements, the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. Observation of $η_{c}$(1S, 2S) and $χ_{cJ}$ decays to 2$(π^{+}π^{-})η$ via $ψ$(3686) radiative transitions

Abstract: Based on $2.7 \times 10^9~ψ(3686)$ decays collected with the BESIII detector, the radiative decay $ψ(3686)\to\gamma2(π^{+}π^{-})η$ is investigated to measure properties of S- and P-wave charmonium states. The branching fraction of the decay $η_{c}(1S) \to 2(π^{+}π^{-})η$, which is found to have a strong dependence on the interference pattern between $η_c(1S)$ and non-$η_c(1S)$ processes, is measur… ▽ More Based on $2.7 \times 10^9~ψ(3686)$ decays collected with the BESIII detector, the radiative decay $ψ(3686)\to\gamma2(π^{+}π^{-})η$ is investigated to measure properties of S- and P-wave charmonium states. The branching fraction of the decay $η_{c}(1S) \to 2(π^{+}π^{-})η$, which is found to have a strong dependence on the interference pattern between $η_c(1S)$ and non-$η_c(1S)$ processes, is measured in both destructive and constructive interference scenarios for the first time. The mass and width of the $η_{c}(1S)$ are measured to be $M=(2984.14 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.38)$ MeV/$c^{2}$ and $Γ=(28.82 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.82)$ MeV, respectively. Clear signals for the decays of the $χ_{cJ}(J=0,1,2)$ and the $η_{c}(2S)$ to $2(π^{+}π^{-})η$ are also observed for the first time, and the corresponding branching fractions are measured. The ratio of the branching fractions between the $η_{c}(2S)$ and $η_{c}(1S)$ decays is significantly lower than the theoretical prediction, which might suggest different dynamics in their decays. △ Less

Strong and weak $CP$ tests in sequential decays of polarized $Σ^0$ hyperons

Abstract: Based on $(2712.4\pm 14.3)\times10^{6}$ $ψ(3686)$ events, we investigate four hadronic decay modes of the $P$-wave charmonium spin-singlet state $h_c(^1P_1) \to h^+ h^- π^0/η$ ($h=π$ or $K$) via the process $ψ(3686) \to π^{0}h_c$ at BESIII. The $h_c \to π^+ π^- π^0$ decay is observed with a significance of 9.6$σ$ after taking into account systematic uncertainties. Scrutinize What We Ignore: Reining Task Representation Shift In Context-Based Offline Meta Reinforcement Learning

Previous context-based approaches predominantly rely on the intuition that maximizing the mutual information between the task and the task representation ($I(Z;M)$) can lead to performance impro… ▽ More Offline meta reinforcement learning (OMRL) has emerged as a promising approach for interaction avoidance and strong generalization performance by leveraging pre-collected data and meta-learning techniques. Previous context-based approaches predominantly rely on the intuition that maximizing the mutual information between the task and the task representation ($I(Z;M)$) can lead to performance improvements. Despite achieving attractive results, the theoretical justification of performance improvement for such intuition has been lacking. Motivated by the return discrepancy scheme in the model-based RL field, we find that maximizing $I(Z;M)$ can be interpreted as consistently raising the lower bound of the expected return for a given policy conditioning on the optimal task representation. However, this optimization process ignores the task representation shift between two consecutive updates, which may lead to performance improvement collapse. To address this problem, we turn to use the framework of performance difference bound to consider the impacts of task representation shift explicitly. We demonstrate that by reining the task representation shift, it is possible to achieve monotonic performance improvements, thereby showcasing the advantage against previous approaches. To make it practical, we design an easy yet highly effective algorithm RETRO (\underline{RE}ining \underline{T}ask \underline{R}epresentation shift in context-based \underline{O}ffline meta reinforcement learning) with only adding one line of code compared to the backbone. Empirical results validate its state-of-the-art (SOTA) asymptotic performance, training stability and training-time consumption on MuJoCo and MetaWorld benchmarks. △ Less

The measurements are consistent with the previous results with improved precision by a factor of 2. The results are valuable for gaining a deeper understanding of $η-η^\prime$ mixing, and its manifestation within quantum chromodynamics. No significant signal is found for the decay $h_c\rightarrowγπ^{0}$, and an upper limit is placed on its branching fraction of $\mathscr{B}(h_c\rightarrowγπ^{0})<5.0\times10^{-5}$, at the 90\% confidence level. △ Less

PEVA-Net: Prompt-Enhanced View Aggregation Network for Zero/Few-Shot Multi-View 3D Shape Recognition

The key challenge for both tasks is to generate a discriminative descriptor of the 3D shape represented by… ▽ More Large vision-language models have impressively promote the performance of 2D visual recognition under zero/few-shot scenarios. In this paper, we focus on exploiting the large vision-language model, i.e., CLIP, to address zero/few-shot 3D shape recognition based on multi-view representations. The key challenge for both tasks is to generate a discriminative descriptor of the 3D shape represented by multiple view images under the scenarios of either without explicit training (zero-shot 3D shape recognition) or training with a limited number of data (few-shot 3D shape recognition). We analyze that both tasks are relevant and can be considered simultaneously. Specifically, leveraging the descriptor which is effective for zero-shot inference to guide the tuning of the aggregated descriptor under the few-shot training can significantly improve the few-shot learning efficacy. Hence, we propose Prompt-Enhanced View Aggregation Network (PEVA-Net) to simultaneously address zero/few-shot 3D shape recognition. Under the zero-shot scenario, we propose to leverage the prompts built up from candidate categories to enhance the aggregation process of multiple view-associated visual features. The resulting aggregated feature serves for effective zero-shot recognition of the 3D shapes. Under the few-shot scenario, we first exploit a transformer encoder to aggregate the view-associated visual features into a global descriptor. Abstract: Using data samples with an integrated luminosity of $4.5~\text{fb}^{-1}$ collected by the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.66 to 4.95 GeV, we study the processes of $e^+e^-\toωX(3872)$ and $e^+e^-\toγX(3872)$. With the $e^+e^-\toωX(3872)$ process, the branching fraction ratio $R\equiv\frac{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\toγJ/ψ)}{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\toπ^+π^- J/ψ)}$ is measured to be $0.38\pm0.20_\text{stat.}\pm0.01_\text{syst.}$ ($R< 0.83$ at 90\% confidence level). In addition, we measure the ratio of the average cross section of $e^+e^-\toωX(3872)$ to $e^+e^-\toωχ_{c1}(ωχ_{c2})$ to be $σ_{ωX(3872)}/σ_{ωχ_{c1}}~(σ_{ωX(3872)}/σ_{ωχ_{c2}})=5.2\pm1.0_\text{stat.}\pm1.9_\text{syst.}~ (5.5\pm1.1_\text{stat.}\pm2.4_\text{syst.})$. Finally, we search for the process of $e^+e^-\toγX(3872)$, and no obvious signal is observed. Abstract: We report the first amplitude analysis of the decays $D^{0} \to π^{+} π^{-} η$ and $D^{+} \rightarrow π^{+}π^{0}η$ using a data sample taken with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.9 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$. The contribution from the process $D^{0(+)} \to a_{0}(980)^{+} π^{-(0)}$ is significantly larger than the $D^{0(+)} \to a_{0}(980)^{-(0)} π^{+}$ contribution. The ratios $\mathcal{B}(D^{0} \rightarrow a_{0}(980)^{+}π^{-})/\mathcal{B}(D^{0} \rightarrow a_{0}(980)^{-}π^{+})$ and $\mathcal{B}(D^{+} \rightarrow a_{0}(980)^{+}π^{0})/\mathcal{B}(D^{+} \rightarrow a_{0}(980)^{0}π^{+})$ are measured to be $7.5^{+2.5}_{-0.8\,\mathrm{stat.}}\pm1.7_{\mathrm{syst.}}$ and $2.6\pm0.6_{\mathrm{stat.}}\pm0.3_{\mathrm{syst.}}$, respectively. The decay branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\toπ^+φ, φ\to e^{+}e^{-} )=(1.17^{+0.23}_{-0.21}\pm0.03)\times 10^{-5}$, and $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+\toρ^+φ, φ\to e^{+}e^{-} )=(2.44^{+0.67}_{-0.62}\pm 0.16)\times 10^{-5}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. No significant signal for the three four-body decays of $D_{s}^{+}\to π^{+}π^{0}e^{+}e^{-},\ D_{s}^{+}\to K^{+}π^{0}e^{+}e^{-}$, and $D_{s}^{+}\to K_{S}^{0}π^{+}e^{+}e^{-}$ is observed. For $D_{s}^{+}\to π^{+}π^{0}e^{+}e^{-}$, the $φ$ mass region is vetoed to minimize the long-distance effects. The 90$\%$ confidence level upper limits set on the branching fractions of these decays are in the range of $(7.0-8.1)\times 10^{-5}$. △ Less

Abstract: Impurities exist inevitably in two-dimensional materials as they spontaneously adsorb onto the surface during fabrication, usually exerting detrimental effects on electronic transport. Here, we focus on a special type of impurities that preferentially adsorb onto the hollow regions of graphene nanoribbons (GNRs), and study how they affect the quantum transport in GNRs. Contrary to previous knowledge that random adatoms should localize electrons, the so-called Anderson localization, noteworthy quantized conductance peaks (QCPs) are observed at specific electron energies. These QCPs are remarkably robust against variations in system size, GNR edge, and adatom properties, and they can reappear at identical energies following an arithmetic sequence of device width. Further investigation of wavefunction reveals a unique transport mode at each QCP energy which transmits through disordered GNRs reflectionlessly, while all the others become fully Anderson localized, indicating the survival of quantum ballistic transport in the localized regime. Our findings highlight the potential utility of hollow adatoms as a powerful tool to manipulate the conductivity of GNRs, and deepen the understanding of the interplay between impurities and graphene. △ Less

Abstract: By analyzing $e^+e^-$ annihilation data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 $\rm fb^{-1}$ collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the \text{BESIII} detector, the first observation of the semileptonic decays $D^0\rightarrow K_S^0π^-π^0 e^+ ν_e$ and $D^+\rightarrow K_S^0π^+π^- e^+ ν_e$ is reported. With a dominant hadronic contribution from $K_1(1270)$, the branching fra… ▽ More By analyzing $e^+e^-$ annihilation data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 $\rm fb^{-1}$ collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the \text{BESIII} detector, the first observation of the semileptonic decays $D^0\rightarrow K_S^0π^-π^0 e^+ ν_e$ and $D^+\rightarrow K_S^0π^+π^- e^+ ν_e$ is reported. With a dominant hadronic contribution from $K_1(1270)$, the branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(D^0\rightarrow {K}_1(1270)^-(\to K^0_Sπ^-π^0)e^+ν_e)=(1.69^{+0.53}_{-0.46}\pm0.15)\times10^{-4}$ and $\mathcal{B}(D^+\to \bar{K}_1(1270)^0(\to K^0_Sπ^+π^-)e^+ν_e)=(1.47^{+0.45}_{-0.40}\pm0.20)\times10^{-4}$ with statistical significance of 5.4$σ$ and 5.6$σ$, respectively. When combined with measurements of the $K_1(1270)\to K^+π^-π$ decays, the absolute branching fractions are determined to be $\mathcal{B}(D^0\to K_1(1270)^-e^+ν_e)=(1.05^{+0.33}_{-0.28}\pm0.12\pm0.12)\times10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(D^+\to \bar{K}_1(1270)^0e^+ν_e)=(1.29^{+0.40}_{-0.35}\pm0.18\pm0.15)\times10^{-3}$. The pre-training process of InternLM2 is meticulously detailed, highlighting the preparation of diverse data types including text, code, and long-context data. InternLM2 efficiently captures long-term dependencies, initially trained on 4k tokens before advancing to 32k tokens in pre-training and fine-tuning stages, exhibiting remarkable performance on the 200k ``Needle-in-a-Haystack" test. InternLM2 is further aligned using Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) and a novel Conditional Online Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (COOL RLHF) strategy that addresses conflicting human preferences and reward hacking. Abstract: We report a first study of the semileptonic decay $D^0\rightarrow K^-π^0μ^{+}ν_μ$ by analyzing an $e^+e^-$ annihilation data sample of $7.9~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector. The absolute branching fraction of $D^0\to K^-π^0μ^{+}ν_μ$ is measured for the first time to be $(0.729 \pm 0.014_{\rm stat} \pm 0.011_{\rm syst})\%$. Based on an a… ▽ More We report a first study of the semileptonic decay $D^0\rightarrow K^-π^0μ^{+}ν_μ$ by analyzing an $e^+e^-$ annihilation data sample of $7.9~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector. The absolute branching fraction of $D^0\to K^-π^0μ^{+}ν_μ$ is measured for the first time to be $(0.729 \pm 0.014_{\rm stat} \pm 0.011_{\rm syst})\%$. Based on an amplitude analysis, the $S\text{-}{\rm wave}$ contribution is determined to be $(5.76 \pm 0.35_{\rm stat} \pm 0.29_{\rm syst})\%$ of the total decay rate in addition to the dominated $K^{*}(892)^-$ component. The branching fraction of $D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ$ is given to be $(2.062 \pm 0.039_{\rm stat} \pm 0.032_{\rm syst})\%$, which improves the precision of the world average by a factor of 5. Combining with the world average of ${\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-e^+ν_e)$, the ratio of the branching fractions obtained is $\frac{{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-μ^+ν_μ)}{{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^{*}(892)^-e^+ν_e)} = 0.96\pm0.08$, in agreement with lepton flavor universality. Furthermore, assuming single-pole dominance parameterization, the most precise hadronic form factor ratios for $D^0\to K^{*}(892)^{-} μ^+ν_μ$ are extracted to be $r_{V}=V(0)/A_1(0)=1.37 \pm 0.09_{\rm stat} \pm 0.03_{\rm syst}$ and $r_{2}=A_2(0)/A_1(0)=0.76 \pm 0.06_{\rm stat} \pm 0.02_{\rm syst}$. △ Less

Pre-trained Model-based Actionable Warning Identification: A Feasibility Study

However, these approaches still face the problem of restricted performance due to the direct reliance on a limited number of labeled warnings to develo… ▽ More Actionable Warning Identification (AWI) plays a pivotal role in improving the usability of static code analyzers. Currently, Machine Learning (ML)-based AWI approaches, which mainly learn an AWI classifier from labeled warnings, are notably common. However, these approaches still face the problem of restricted performance due to the direct reliance on a limited number of labeled warnings to develop a classifier. Very recently, Pre-Trained Models (PTMs), which have been trained through billions of text/code tokens and demonstrated substantial success applications on various code-related tasks, could potentially circumvent the above problem. Nevertheless, the performance of PTMs on AWI has not been systematically investigated, leaving a gap in understanding their pros and cons. In this paper, we are the first to explore the feasibility of applying various PTMs for AWI. By conducting the extensive evaluation on 10K+ SpotBugs warnings from 10 large-scale and open-source projects, we observe that all studied PTMs are consistently 9.85%~21.12% better than the state-of-the-art ML-based AWI approaches. Besides, we investigate the impact of three primary aspects (i.e., data preprocessing, model training, and model prediction) in the typical PTM-based AWI workflow. Further, we identify the reasons for current PTMs' underperformance on AWI. Based on our findings, we provide several practical guidelines to enhance PTM-based AWI in future work. △ Less

Searching for Exotic Spin-Dependent Interactions with Diamond-Based Vector Magnetometer

Abstract: We propose a new method to search for exotic spin-spin interactions between electrons and nucleons using a diamond-based vector magnetometer. The vector magnetometer can be constructed from ensembles of nitrogen-vacancy centers along different axes in a diamond. The $^{14}\mathrm{N} $ nuclear spins of nitrogen-vacancy centers in the same diamond can be polarized through the dynamic nuclear polariz… ▽ More We propose a new method to search for exotic spin-spin interactions between electrons and nucleons using a diamond-based vector magnetometer. The vector magnetometer can be constructed from ensembles of nitrogen-vacancy centers along different axes in a diamond. The $^{14}\mathrm{N} $ nuclear spins of nitrogen-vacancy centers in the same diamond can be polarized through the dynamic nuclear polarization method to serve as spin sources. With the vector magnetometer, the sought-after exotic interactions can be distinguished from the magnetic dipole-dipole interaction. For the axion-mediated interaction $ V_{PP} $, new upper bounds of the coupling $ |g_{P}^{e} g_{P}^{N}| $ are expected within the force range from 10 nm to 100 $ μ$m. For the $ Z' $-mediated interaction $ V_{AA} $, new upper bounds of the coupling $ |g_{A}^{e} g_{A}^{N}| $ are expected within the force range from 10 nm to 1 cm. The new upper bounds for $ V_{PP} $ and $ V_{AA} $ are both expected to be more than 5 orders of magnitude more stringent than existing constraints at the force range of 1 $ μ$m with the total measurement time of one day. △ Less

The values or bias present in these agents can influence output in hidden ways. They may also affect how people perceive the ideas produced with these AI agents and lead to implications for the design of AI-based tools. We explored the effects of AI agents with different values on the ideation process and user perception of idea quality, ownership, agent competence, and values present in the output. Our study tasked 180 participants with brainstorming practical solutions to a set of problems with AI agents of different values. Results show no significant difference in self-evaluation of idea quality and perception of the agent based on value alignment; however, ideas generated reflected the AI's values and feeling of ownership is affected. This highlights an intricate interplay between AI values and human ideation, suggesting careful design considerations for future AI-supported brainstorming tools. △ Less

To Store or Not to Store: a graph theoretical approach for Dataset Versioning

One central variant we study is MinSum Retrieval (MSR) where the goal is to minimize the total retrieval costs, while kee** the storage costs bounded. This problem (along with its variants) was introduced by Bhattacherjee et al. [VLDB'15]. While such problems are frequently encountered in collaborative tools (e.g., version control systems and data analysis pipelines), to the best of our knowledge, no existing research studies the theoretical aspects of these problems. We establish that the currently best-known heuristic, LMG, can perform arbitrarily badly in a simple worst case. Moreover, we show that it is hard to get $o(n)$-approximation for MSR on general graphs even if we relax the storage constraints by an $O(\log n)$ factor. Similar hardness results are shown for other variants. Meanwhile, we propose poly-time approximation schemes for tree-like graphs, motivated by the fact that the graphs arising in practice from typical edit operations are often not arbitrary. As version graphs typically have low treewidth, we further develop new algorithms for bounded treewidth graphs. Furthermore, we propose two new heuristics and evaluate them empirically. First, we extend LMG by considering more potential ``moves'', to propose a new heuristic LMG-All. LMG-All consistently outperforms LMG while having comparable run time on a wide variety of datasets, i.e., version graphs. Secondly, we apply our tree algorithms on the minimum-storage arborescence of an instance, yielding algorithms that are qualitatively better than all previous heuristics for MSR, as well as for another variant BoundedMin Retrieval (BMR). △ Less

Experimental roadmap for optimal state transfer and entanglement generation in power-law systems

Such systems are capable of spreading entanglement superballistically and achieving an asymptotic speed-up over locally interacting systems. Recently, protocols developed by Eldredge et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 119, 170503 (2017)] and Tran et al. [Phys. Rev. X 11, 031016 (2021)] for the task of transferring a quantum state between distant particles quickly were shown to be optimal and saturate theoretical bounds. However, the implementation of these protocols in physical systems with long-range interactions remains to be fully realized. In this work, we provide an experimental roadmap towards realizing fast state-transfer protocols in three classes of atomic and molecular systems with dipolar interactions: polar molecules composed of alkali-metal dimers, neutral atoms in excited Rydberg states, and atoms with strong magnetic moments (e.g. dysprosium). As a guide to near-term experimental implementation, we numerically evaluate the tradeoffs between the two protocols for small system sizes and develop methods to address potential crosstalk errors that may arise during the execution of the protocols. △ Less

ClickSAM: Fine-tuning Segment Anything Model using click prompts for ultrasound image segmentation

However, its current model is trained on a diverse dataset not tailored to medical images, particularly ultrasound images. Ultrasound images tend to have a lot of noise, making it difficult to segment out important structures. In this project, we developed ClickSAM, which fine-tunes the Segment Anything Model using click prompts for ultrasound images. ClickSAM has two stages of training: the first stage is trained on single-click prompts centered in the ground-truth contours, and the second stage focuses on improving the model performance through additional positive and negative click prompts. By comparing the first stage predictions to the ground-truth masks, true positive, false positive, and false negative segments are calculated. Positive clicks are generated using the true positive and false negative segments, and negative clicks are generated using the false positive segments. The Centroidal Voronoi Tessellation algorithm is then employed to collect positive and negative click prompts in each segment that are used to enhance the model performance during the second stage of training. With click-train methods, ClickSAM exhibits superior performance compared to other existing models for ultrasound image segmentation. △ Less
