Polaron-assisted dielectric relaxation processes in donor-doped BaTiO3-based ceramics
Abstract: Perovskite structure materials based on the Ba1-xGdxTiO3 system, where x = 0.001, 0.002, 0.003, 0.004 and 0.005, were prepared via the Pechini chemical synthesis route. The dielectric properties have been analyzed over a wide temperature and frequency range, revealing a significant contribution of the conduction mechanisms in the dielectric response of the studied ceramics. In fact, by using the D… ▽ More

The odd Hummer principle
Abstract: The Hummer Principle was born from the mind of Bob Hummer in 1946, which consists of performing card shuffles with an even number of cards while leaving some properties of the deck intact. In this document, we will present a generalization of this principle for an odd number of cards, along with ideas for applying and adapting magic tricks that use the Hummer Principle to a more general setting. FPGA design of a cdma2000 turbo decoder
Abstract: This paper presents the FPGA hardware design of a turbo decoder for the cdma2000 standard. The work includes a study and mathematical analysis of the turbo decoding process, based on the MAX-Log-MAP algorithm. Results of decoding for a packet size of two hundred fifty bits are presented, as well as an analysis of area versus performance, and the key variables for hardware design in turbo decoding.

A New Look at the Classical Entropy of Written English
Abstract: A simple method for finding the entropy and redundancy of a reasonable long sample of English text by direct computer processing and from first principles according to Shannon theory is presented. As an example, results on the entropy of the English language have been obtained based on a total of 20.3 million characters of written English, considering symbols from one to five hundred characters… ▽ More

On the Entropy of Written Spanish
Abstract: This paper reports on results on the entropy of the Spanish language. They are based on an analysis of natural language for n-word symbols (n = 1 to 18), trigrams, digrams, and characters. The results obtained in this work are based on the analysis of twelve different literary works in Spanish, as well as a 279917 word news file provided by the Spanish press agency EFE. Entropy values are calcul… ▽ More

Turbo Interleaving inside the cdma2000 and W-CDMA Mobile Communication Systems: A Tutorial
Abstract: In this paper a discussion of the detailed operation of the interleavers used by the turbo codes defined on the telecommunications standards cdma2000 (3GPP2 C.S0024-B V2.0) and W-CDMA (3GPP TS 25.212 V7.4.0) is presented. Differences in the approach used by each turbo interleaver as well as dispersion analysis and frequency analysis are also discussed. Two examples are presented to illustrate th… ▽ More

A software for learning Information Theory basics with emphasis on Entropy of Spanish
Abstract: In this paper, a tutorial software to learn Information Theory basics in a practical way is reported. The software, called IT-tutor-UV, makes use of a modern existing Spanish corpus for the modeling of the source. Both the source and the channel coding are also included in this educational tool as part of the learning experience. Entropy values of the Spanish language obtained with the IT-tutor-… ▽ More

A Non-Perturbative Chiral Approach for Meson-Meson Interactions
Abstract: A non-perturbative method which combines constraints from chiral symmetry breaking and coupled channel unitarity is used to describe meson-meson interactions up to \sqrt{s}\lesssim 1.2 GeV, extending in this way the range of applicability of the information contained in Chiral Perturbation Theory (χPT), since this perturbative series is typically restricted to \sqrt{s}\lesssim 500 MeV. The appro… ▽ More

Recent progress on the chiral unitary approach to meson meson and meson baryon interactions
Abstract: We report on recent progress on the chiral unitary approach, analogous to the effective range expansion in Quantum Mechanics, which is shown to have a much larger convergence radius than ordinary chiral perturbation theory, allowing one to reproduce data for meson meson interaction up to 1.2 GeV. Applications to physical processes so far unsuited for a standard chiral perturbative approach are p… ▽ More

KK bar scattering amplitude to one loop in chiral perturbation theory, its unitarization and pion form factors
Abstract: We have calculated the KK bar --> KK bar scattering amplitude to next to leading order in Chiral Perturbation Theory. Then, making use of a unitarization procedure with one or several coupled channels (ππ, KK bar in our case) we have calculated the ππ--> ππ, ππ--> KK bar and KK bar --> KK bar S and P waves in good agreement with the experiment up to \sqrt{s}= 1.2 GeV. The ππscattering lengths wi… ▽ More

Study of the resummation of chiral logarithms in the exponentiated expression for the pion form factor
Abstract: From the properties of analyticity and unitarity it has been recently obtained an exponentiated expression for the pion form factor. In this work I show the validity of this expression comparing its order p^6 term with the one exactly calculated in ChPT.

Effective Field Theory Description of the Pion Form Factor
Abstract: Using our present knowledge on effective hadronic theories, short-distance QCD information, the $1/N_C$ expansion, analyticity and unitarity, we derive an expression for the pion form factor, in terms of $m_π, m_K, M_ρ$ and $f_π$. This parameter-free prediction provides a surprisingly good description of the experimental data up to energies of the order of 1 GeV.

Kaon Polarizabilities in Chiral Perturbation Theory
Abstract: We study the kaon polarizabilities in the framework of Chiral Perturbation Theory to order $p^4$. For the neutral kaon we find that them vanish and they have the first non-zero contribution to order $p^6$. We also emphasize the theoretical potential of an eventual measuremnet of the kaon polarizabilities, in particular of the neutral kaon ones.
