The Physics of the B Factories
Abstract: This work is on the Physics of the B Factories. Part A of this book contains a brief description of the SLAC and KEK B Factories as well as their detectors, BaBar and Belle, and data taking related issues. Part B discusses tools and methods used by the experiments in order to obtain results. The results themselves can be found in Part C. Please note that version 3 on the archive is the auxiliary… ▽ More

CMS Workflow Execution using Intelligent Job Scheduling and Data Access Strategies
Abstract: Complex scientific workflows can process large amounts of data using thousands of tasks. The turnaround times of these workflows are often affected by various latencies such as the resource discovery, scheduling and data access latencies for the individual workflow processes or actors. Minimizing these latencies will improve the overall execution time of a workflow and thus lead to a more efficien… ▽ More

Expected Performance of the ATLAS Experiment - Detector, Trigger and Physics
Abstract: A detailed study is presented of the expected performance of the ATLAS detector. The reconstruction of tracks, leptons, photons, missing energy and jets is investigated, together with the performance of b-tagging and the trigger. The physics potential for a variety of interesting physics processes, within the Standard Model and beyond, is examined. The study comprises a series of notes based on… ▽ More

Quarkonium and Charm Hadrons : New Results on Spectroscopy in BaBar
Abstract: We report on recent results in spectroscopy from BaBar. This includes the discovery of a new $Λ_c$ baryon, detailed studies of the $D^*_{sJ}(2317)^+$, $D_{sJ}(2460)^+$, X(3872) and Y(4260) particles and the first measurement of hadronic non-$B\bar{B}$ decays of the $Υ(4S)$ meson.

KANGA(ROO): Handling the micro-DST of the BaBar Experiment with ROOT
Abstract: A system based on ROOT for handling the micro-DST of the BaBar experiment is described. The purpose of the Kanga system is to have micro-DST data available in a format well suited for data distribution within a world-wide collaboration with many small sites. The design requirements, implementation and experience in practice after three years of data taking by the BaBar experiment are presented.

GaAs Microstrip Testbeam Results
Abstract: A gallium arsenide detector was tested with a beam of 70GeV pions at the {\sf SPS} at CERN. The detector utilises a novel biasing scheme which has been shown to behave as expected. The detector has a pitch of 50$μ$m and therefore an expected resolution of 14.5$μ$m. The measured resolution was approximately 14$μ$m. By using a non-linear charge division algorithm this can be increased to… ▽ More
