Using the~$B^+\rightarrow χ_{c1}(3872)K^+$decay, the $χ_{c1}(3872)\rightarrow ψ(2S)γ$ process is observed for the first time and the ratio of its partial width to that of the $χ_{c1}(3872)\rightarrow J/ψγ$ decay is measured to be $$ \frac{Γ_{χ_{c1}(3872)\rightarrow ψ(2S)γ}}
{Γ_{χ_{c1}(3872)\rightarrow J/ψγ}} = 1.67 \pm 0.21 \pm 0.12 \pm0.04 , $$ where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third is due to the uncertainties on the branching fractions of the $ψ(2S)$ and $J/ψ$ mesons. The measured ratio makes the interpretation of the $χ_{c1}(3872)$ state as a~pure $D^0\bar{D}^{*0}+\bar{D}^0D^{*0}$ molecule questionable and strongly indicates a sizeable compact charmonium or tetraquark component within the $χ_{c1}(3872)$ state.

The ESO public survey VISTA Variables in the Vía Láctea (VVV) surveyed the inner Galactic bulge and the adjacent southern Galactic disk from $2009-2015$. Upon its conclusion, the complementary VVV eXtended (VVVX) survey has expanded both the temporal as well as spatial coverage of the original VVV area, widening it from $562$ to $1700$ sq. deg., as well as providing additional epochs in $JHK_{\rm s}$ filters from $2016-2023$. With the completion of VVVX observations during the first semester of 2023, we present here the observing strategy, a description of data quality and access, and the legacy of VVVX. VVVX took $\sim 2000$ hours, covering about 4% of the sky in the bulge and southern disk. VVVX covered most of the gaps left between the VVV and the VISTA Hemisphere Survey (VHS) areas and extended the VVV time baseline in the obscured regions affected by high extinction and hence hidden from optical observations. VVVX provides a deep $JHK_{\rm s}$ catalogue of $\gtrsim 1.5\times10^9$ point sources, as well as a $K_{\rm s}$ band catalogue of $\sim 10^7$ variable sources. Within the existing VVV area, we produced a $5D$ map of the surveyed region by combining positions, distances, and proper motions of well-understood distance indicators such as red clump stars, RR Lyrae, and Cepheid variables. In March 2023 we successfully finished the VVVX survey observations that started in 2016, an accomplishment for ESO Paranal Observatory upon 4200 hours of observations for VVV+VVVX. The VVV+VVVX catalogues complement those from the Gaia mission at low Galactic latitudes and provide spectroscopic targets for the forthcoming ESO high-multiplex spectrographs MOONS and 4MOST.

In the context of the ultrasonic determination of mechanical properties, it is common to use oblique incident waves to characterize fluid-immersed anisotropic samples. The lateral displacement of the ultrasonic field owing to leaky guided wave phenomena poses a challenge for data inversion because beam spreading is rarely well represented by plane-wave models. In this study, a finite beam model based on the angular spectrum method was developed to estimate the influence of the transducer shape and position on the transmitted signals. Additionally, anisotropic solids were considered so that the beam skewing effect was contemplated. A small-emitter large-receiver configuration was chosen, and the ideal shape and position of the receiving transducer were obtained through a meta-heuristic optimization approach with the goal of achieving a measurement system that sufficiently resembles plane-wave propagation. A polyvinylidene fluoride receiver was fabricated based on the findings and tested in three cases: a single-crystal silicon wafer, a lightly anisotropic stainless-steel plate, and a highly anisotropic composite plate. Good agreement was found between the measurements and the plane-wave model.

The value ${r_τ^{\rm Run\,2}=1.076\pm0.013\pm0.006}$ is obtained, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This value is averaged with the corresponding value from Run 1 to obtain ${r_τ^{\rm Run\,1,2} = 1.078\pm0.012\pm0.007}$. Multiplying by the world-average value of the $Λ^0_b$ lifetime yields $τ_{Ξ^-_b}^{\rm Run~1,2} = 1.578\pm0.018\pm0.010\pm0.011$ ps, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the limited knowledge of the $Λ^0_b$ lifetime. This measurement improves the precision of the current world average of the $Ξ^-_b$ lifetime by about a factor of two, and is in good agreement with the most recent theoretical predictions.

The recently released suite of AI weather models can produce multi-day, medium-range forecasts within seconds, with a skill on par with state-of-the-art operational forecasts. Traditional AI model evaluation predominantly targets global scores on single levels. Specific prediction tasks, such as severe convective environments, require much more precision on a local scale and with the correct vertical gradients between levels. With a focus on the convective season of global hotspots in 2020, we assess the skill of three top-performing AI models (Pangu-Weather, GraphCast, FourCastNet) for Convective Available Potential Energy (CAPE) and Deep Layer Shear (DLS) at lead-times of up to 10 days against the ERA-5 reanalysis and the IFS operational numerical weather prediction model. Looking at the example of a US tornado outbreak on April 12 and 13, 2020, all models predict elevated CAPE and DLS values multiple days in advance. The spatial structures in the AI models are smoothed in comparison to IFS and ERA-5. The models show differing biases in the prediction of CAPE values, with GraphCast capturing the value distribution the most accurately and FourCastNet showing a consistent underestimation. In seasonal analyses around the globe, we generally see the highest performance by GraphCast and Pangu-Weather, which match or even exceed the performance of IFS. CAPE derived from vertically coarse pressure levels of neural weather models lacks the precision of the vertically fine resolution of numerical models. The promising results here indicate that a direct prediction of CAPE in AI models is likely to be skillful. This would open unprecedented opportunities for fast and inexpensive predictions of severe weather phenomena. By advancing the assessment of AI models towards process-based evaluations we lay the foundation for hazard-driven applications of AI-based weather forecasts.

The VISTA Variables in the Via Láctea Extended Survey (VVVX) enables exploration of previously uncharted territories within the inner Milky Way (MW), particularly those obscured by stellar crowding and intense extinction. Our objective is to identify and investigate new star clusters to elucidate their intrinsic characteristics. Specifically, we are focused on uncovering new candidate Globular Clusters (GCs) situated at low Galactic latitudes, with the ultimate goal of completing the census of the MW GC system. Leveraging a combination of Near-InfraRed (NIR) data from the VVVX survey and Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS), along with optical photometry and precise proper motions (PMs) from the Gaia Data Release 3 (DR3), we are conducting a systematic characterisation of new GCs. As a result, we report the discovery and characterisation of four new Galactic clusters named FSR 1700, FSR 1415, CWNU 4193, and Teutsch 67, all located within the MW disk. We estimate a wide range of reddening, with values ranging from 0.44 to 0.73 mag for E(J-Ks). The heliocentric distances span from 10.3 to 13.2 kpc. Additionally, we determine their metallicities and ages, finding a range of -0.85 to -0.75 dex for [Fe/H] and ages approximately close to 11 Gyr, respectively. FSR 1415 is an exception, it is an old open cluster with age = 3 Gyr and [Fe/H] = -0.10. Furthermore, we fitted the radial density profiles to derive their structural parameters like tidal radius, core radius, and concentration parameters. In conclusion, based on their positions, kinematics, metallicities, and ages, and comparing our findings with existing literature, we categorise FSR 1700, Teutsch 67 and CWNU 4193 as genuine GC candidates, while FSR 1415 is an old open cluster exhibiting characteristics of a post core-collapse cluster.

In this work we perform the photometric analysis of the globular cluster system (GCS) of the giant elliptical NGC4696, which is the brightest member of Centaurus, a rich and dynamically young galaxy cluster. We obtained deep Magellan 6.5 m/MegaCam (g', r', i') photometry, with which we identified a sample of 3818 stellar clusters around NGC4696 that were analyzed in the context of possible interactions and its assembly history. After carefully modeling and subtracting the galaxy light, we used selection criteria based on the shape, colors, and magnitudes to identify GC candidates. We find a number of features that indicate a disturbed GCS that points toward a complex evolution with other neighboring members of Centaurus. Formally, two subpopulations could be found at (g'-i')_0 = 0.763 $\pm$ 0.004 and (g'-i')_0=1.012 $\pm$ 0.004. Moreover, the color distribution does not show the presence of a significant blue tilt, but it presents a trend with the radius, where at small galactocentric distances a unimodal distribution is preferable to a bimodal one, suggesting the presence of an intermediate GC population. Besides the color distribution, the metallicity distribution also shows a bimodal trend, with peaks at [Fe/H]=-1.363 $\pm$ 0.010 and [Fe/H]=-0.488 $\pm$ 0.012. The radial density profiles show different slopes for the blue and red populations and the azimuthal distributions are well fitted by an asymmetrical sinusoidal function, with peaks projecting toward two nearby galaxies, NGC4696B and NGC4709, indicating past interactions among these three galaxies. Finally, we derived a GC specific frequency of S_N=6.8 $\pm$ 0.9, in good agreement with the values obtained for other giant ellipticals and with previously estimated S_N of NGC4696. All these results point toward a complex GCS, strongly influenced by the interaction history of NGC4696 with the other galaxies of the Centaurus cluster.

A study of resonant structures in $B^{+}\rightarrow{D^{\ast+}D^{-}K^{+}}$ and $B^{+}\rightarrow{D^{\ast-}D^{+}K^{+}}$ decays is performed, using proton-proton collision data at centre-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s}=7, 8$, and $13$ TeV recorded by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb$^{-1}$. A simultaneous amplitude fit is performed to the two channels with contributions from resonances decaying to $D^{\ast-}D^{+}$ and $D^{\ast+}D^{-}$ states linked by $C$ parity. This procedure allows the $C$-parities of resonances in the $D^{\ast\pm}D^{\mp}$ mass spectra to be determined. Four charmonium(-like) states are observed decaying into $D^{\ast\pm}D^{\mp}$: $η_c(3945)$, $h_c(4000)$, $χ_{c1}(4010)$ and $h_c(4300)$, with quantum numbers $J^{PC}$ equal to $0^{-+}$, $1^{+-}$, $1^{++}$ and $1^{+-}$, respectively. At least three of these states have not been observed previously. In addition, the existence of the $T_{\bar{c}\bar{s}0}^{*}(2870)^{0}$ and $T_{\bar{c}\bar{s}1}^{*}(2900)^{0}$ resonances in the $D^-K^+$ mass spectrum, already observed in the $B^+ \to D^+ D^- K^+$ decay, is confirmed in a different production channel.

A search for radiative decay of $B^0_s$ mesons to orbitally excited $K^+K^-$ states is performed using proton proton collisions recorded by the \mbox{LHCb}\xspace experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9~fb$^{-1}$. The dikaon spectrum in the mass range $m_{KK}<2400$~{\ensuremath{\,\text{Me\kern -0.1em V\!/}c^2}\xspace} is dominated by the $φ(1020)$ resonance that accounts for almost 70$\%$ of the decay rate. Considering the possible contributions of $f_2{(1270)}$, $f'_2{(1525)}$ and $f_2{(2010)}$ meson states, the overall tensor contribution to the amplitude is measured to be \begin{equation}
{\cal F}_{\{f_2\}}=16.8\pm 0.5\mathrm{~(stat.)}\pm0.7\mathrm{~(syst.)}\%,\nonumber \end{equation}
mostly dominated by the $f'_2(1525)$ state. Several statistically equivalent solutions are obtained for the detailed resonant structure depending on whether the smaller amplitudes interfere destructively or constructively with the dominant amplitude. The preferred solution that corresponds to the lowest values of the fit fractions along with constructive interference leads to the relative branching ratio measurement \begin{equation}
\frac{{\cal B}(B^0_s\to f'_2γ)}{{\cal B}(B^0_s\toφγ)}= 19.4^{+0.9}_{-0.8}\mathrm{~(stat.)}{}^{+1.4}_{-0.5}\mathrm{~(syst.)}\pm0.5\mathrm{~(\cal{B})}\%\nonumber, \end{equation} where the last uncertainty is due to the ratio of measured branching fractions to the $K^+K^-$ final state. This result represents the first observation of the radiative $B^0_s\to f'_2(1525)γ$ decay, which is the second radiative transition observed in the $B^0_s$ sector.

A comprehensive study of the local and nonlocal amplitudes contributing to the decay $B^0\rightarrow K^{*0}(\to K^+π^-) μ^+μ^-$ is performed by analysing the phase-space distribution of the decay products. The analysis is based on \proton\proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.4fb$^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment. This measurement employs for the first time a model of both one-particle and two-particle nonlocal amplitudes, and utilises the complete dimuon mass spectrum without any veto regions around the narrow charmonium resonances. In this way it is possible to explicitly isolate the local and nonlocal contributions and capture the interference between them. The results show that interference with nonlocal contributions, although larger than predicted, only has a minor impact on the Wilson Coefficients determined from the fit to the data. For the local contributions, the Wilson Coefficient $C_9$, responsible for vector dimuon currents, exhibits a $2.1σ$ deviation from the Standard Model expectation. The Wilson Coefficients $C_{10}$, $C_{9}'$ and $C_{10}'$ are all in better agreement than $C_{9}$ with the Standard Model and the global significance is at the level of $1.5σ$. The model used also accounts for nonlocal contributions from $B^{0}\to K^{*0}\left[τ^+τ^-\to μ^+μ^-\right]$ rescattering, resulting in the first direct measurement of the $b sττ$ vector effective-coupling $C_{9τ}$.

No significant excess is observed, and an upper limit on the branching fraction is determined to be ${\cal B}( B^0_s\toφμ^\pmτ^\mp) < 1.0\times 10^{-5}$ at 90% confidence level.

The products of the relative branching fractions and fragmentation fractions for each signal mode, relative to the $B^- \to Λ_c^+ \overline{p} π^-$ mode, are measured, with $Ξ_{b}^- \toΛ_{c}^+ K^- π^-$, $Ξ_{b}^- \toΛ_{c}^+ K^- K^-$ and $Ω_{b}^- \toΛ_{c}^+ K^- K^-$ decays being observed at over $5\,σ$ significance. The $Ξ_{b}^- \toΛ_{c}^+ K^- π^-$ mode is also used to measure the $Ξ_{b}^-$ production asymmetry, which is found to be consistent with zero. In addition, the $B^- \to Λ_{c}^+ \overline{p} K^-$ decay is observed for the first time, and its branching fraction is measured relative to that of the $B^- \to Λ_{c}^+ \overline{p} π^-$ mode.

Extensions of the Standard Model featuring excited fermions present an interesting framework that motivates the search for exotic particles at the LHC. Additionally, these extensions offer potential explanations for the muon's anomalous magnetic moment and other precision observables, shedding light on the energy scale and key parameters of the new theory. Our analysis focuses on the one-loop radiative correction originating from excited lepton doublet and triplet states using the effective Lagrangian approach. The bounds derived from the $(g-2)_μ$ anomaly can be complemented with the ones arising from other observables like the electroweak precision observable $Δρ$ and the signals from direct LHC searches to constraint the effective theory. Our results suggest that the $(g-2)_μ$ anomaly can be addressed within a very narrow region of the effective theory scale. Consequently, this imposes indirect constraints on the parameter space of excited fermions.

The decay $D^0 \rightarrow K^- π^+ π^0$ is used as a control channel to validate the measurement procedure. The gradient of the time-dependent $CP$ asymmetry, $ΔY$, in $D^0 \rightarrow π^+ π^- π^0$ decays is measured to be \begin{equation*}

The optimization of chemical processes is challenging due to the nonlinearities arising from process physics and discrete design decisions. In particular, optimal synthesis and design of chemical processes can be posed as a Generalized Disjunctive Programming (GDP) superstructure problem. Various solution methods are available to address these problems, such as reformulating them as Mixed-Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) problems; nevertheless, algorithms explicitly designed to solve the GDP problem and potentially leverage its structure remain scarce. This paper presents the Logic-based Discrete-Steepest Descent Algorithm (LD-SDA) as a solution method for GDP problems involving ordered Boolean variables. The LD-SDA reformulates these ordered Boolean variables into integer decisions called external variables. The LD-SDA solves the reformulated GDP problem using a two-level decomposition approach where the upper-level subproblem determines external variable configurations. Subsequently, the remaining continuous and discrete variables are solved as a subproblem only involving those constraints relevant to the given external variable arrangement, effectively taking advantage of the structure of the GDP problem. The advantages of LD-SDA are illustrated through a batch processing case study, a reactor superstructure, a distillation column, and a catalytic distillation column, and its open-source implementation is available online. The results show convergence efficiency and solution quality improvements compared to conventional GDP and MINLP solvers.

The ratio of branching fractions of the $B^{+}\to D^{*-}D^{+}_{s}π^{+}$ and $B^{0}\to D^{*-}D^{+}_{s}$ decays is measured to be $0.173\pm 0.006\pm 0.010$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Using partially reconstructed $D^{*+}_{s}\to D^{+}_{s}γ$ and $D^{+}_{s}π^{0}$ decays, the ratio of branching fractions between the $B^{+}\to D^{*-}D^{*+}_{s}π^{+}$ and $B^{+}\to D^{*-}D^{+}_{s}π^{+}$ decays is determined as $1.31\pm 0.07\pm 0.14$. An amplitude analysis of the $B^{+}\to D^{*-}D^{+}_{s}π^{+}$ decay is performed for the first time, revealing dominant contributions from known excited charm resonances decaying to the $D^{*-}π^{+}$ final state. No significant evidence of exotic contributions in the $D^{+}_{s}π^{+}$ or $D^{*-}D^{+}_{s}$ channels is found. The fit fraction of the scalar state $T_{c\bar{s} 0}^{\ast}(2900)^{++}$ observed in the $B^{+}\to D^{-}D^{+}_{s}π^{+}$ decay is determined to be less than 2.3% at a 90% confidence level.

An AMC-backed twin arrow antenna, operative in the 24.05-24.25 GHz frequency band, has been designed for imaging systems supporting ETA. Artificial Magnetic Conductor (AMC) is combined with the antenna with the aim of reducing the backward radiation to the wearing person while improving its radiation properties and bandwidth, all this without increasing the initial area of the antenna. Prototypes of the AMC-antenna have been fabricated and measured. In order to test its performance for the application, imaging have been conducted by means of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) techniques by placing the antenna in the arm of a user to take advantage of natural body movement. Electromagnetic images have been obtained and the target has been identified, demonstrating the suitability of the AMC-antenna for the ETA system.

Moreover, these models predict LSP neutralino abundance that is compatible with the Planck dark matter bounds. Split-metric decompositions are an important tool in the theory of phylogenetics, particularly because of the link between the tight span and the class of totally decomposable spaces, a generalization of metric trees whose decomposition does not have a ``prime'' component. We use this connection to study the Vietoris-Rips complexes of totally decomposable spaces. In particular, we characterize the homotopy type of the Vietoris-Rips complex of circular decomposable spaces whose metric is monotone. We extend this result to compute the homology of certain non-monotone circular decomposable spaces. We also use the block decomposition of the tight span of a totally decomposable metric to induce a decomposition of the VR complex of a totally decomposable metric.

A method is presented to reconstruct charged particles with lifetimes between 10 ps and 10 ns, which considers a combination of their decay products and the partial tracks created by the initial charged particle. Using the $Ξ^-$ baryon as a benchmark, the method is demonstrated with simulated events and proton-proton collision data at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb${}^{-1}$ collected with the LHCb detector in 2018. Significant improvements in the angular resolution and the signal purity are obtained. The method is implemented as part of the LHCb Run 3 event trigger in a set of requirements to select detached hyperons. This is the first demonstration of the applicability of this approach at the LHC, and the first to show its scaling with instantaneous luminosity.

The resonant structure of the radiative decay $Λ_b^0\to pK^-γ$ in the region of proton-kaon invariant-mass up to 2.5 GeV$/c^2$ is studied using proton-proton collision data recorded at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV collected with the LHCb detector, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb$^{-1}$. Results are given in terms of fit and interference fractions between the different components contributing to this final state. Only $Λ$ resonances decaying to $pK^-$ are found to be relevant, where the largest contributions stem from the $Λ(1520)$, $Λ(1600)$, $Λ(1800)$, and $Λ(1890)$ states.

The $Λ^0_b \to D^+ D^- Λ$ decay is observed for the first time using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of $13 \mathrm{TeV}$, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $5.3 \mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. Using the $B^0 \to D^+ D^- K_{\mathrm{S}}^0$ decay as a reference channel, the product of the relative production cross-section and decay branching fractions is measured to be $$ {\cal R}=\frac{σ_{Λ^0_b}}{σ_{B^0}} \times \frac{{\cal B}(Λ^0_b \to D^+ D^- Λ)}{{\cal B}(B^0 \to D^+ D^- K_{\mathrm{S}}^0)}=0.179 \pm 0.022 \pm 0.014 $$ where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The known branching fraction of the reference channel, ${\cal B}(B^0 \to D^+ D^- K_{\mathrm{S}}^0)$, and the cross-section ratio, $σ_{Λ^0_b} / σ_{B^0}$, previously measured by $\mathrm{LHCb}$ are used to derive the branching fraction of the $Λ^0_b \to D^+ D^- Λ$ decay $$ {\cal B}(Λ^0_b \to D^+ D^- Λ)=(1.24 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.10 \pm 0.28 \pm 0.11) \times 10^{-4}, $$ where the third and fourth contributions are due to uncertainties of ${\cal B}(B^0 \to D^+ D^- K_{\mathrm{S}}^0)$ and $σ_{Λ^0_b} / σ_{B^0}$, respectively. Inspection of the $D^+ Λ$ and $D^+ D^-$ invariant-mass distributions suggests a rich presence of intermediate resonances in the decay. The $Λ^0_b \to D^{*+} D^- Λ$ decay is also observed for the first time as a partially reconstructed component in the $D^+ D^- Λ$ invariant mass spectrum.

In this study, we search for Globular Clusters (GCs) in the inner halo of the Circinus galaxy using a combination of observational data. Our dataset includes observations from the VISTA Variables in the Vía Láctea Extended Survey (VVVX), optical data from Gaia Release 3 (DR3), and observations from the Dark Energy Camera (DECam). These multiple data sources provide a comprehensive basis for our analysis. Our search was concentrated within a 50 kpc radius from the centre, leading to the identification of 93 sources that met our established criteria. To ensure the reliability of our findings, we conducted multiple examinations for sample contamination. These examinations incorporated tests based on Gaia Astrometric Excess Noise (AEN), the Blue Photometer (BP)/Red Photometer (RP) Excess Factor (BRexcess), as well as comparisons with stellar population models.
This analysis confidently classified 41 sources as genuine GCs, as they successfully passed both the 3$σ$ Gaia AEN and BRexcess tests. We used the ISHAPE program to determine the structural parameters (half-light radii) of the GC candidates, with a peak effective radius of 4$\pm$ 0.5 pc. The catalogue mainly consists of bright GCs. Relationships between colour, size, and distance were found in the GC candidates, alongside confirmation of bi-modality in colour distributions.

We study slender, helical elastic rods subject to distributed forces and moments. Focussing on the case when the helix axis remains straight, we employ the method of multiple scales to systematically derive an 'effective-column' theory from the Kirchhoff rod equations: the helical filament is described as a naturally-straight rod (aligned with the helix axis) for which the extensional and torsional deformations are coupled. Importantly, our analysis is asymptotically exact in the limit of a 'highly-coiled' filament (i.e., when the helical wavelength is much smaller than the characteristic lengthscale over which the filament bends due to external loading) and is able to account for large, unsteady displacements. In the small-deformation limit, we exactly recover the coupled wave equations used to describe the free vibrations of helical coil springs, thereby justifying previous effective-column approximations in which linearised stiffness coefficients are assumed to apply locally and dynamically. We then illustrate our theory with two loading scenarios: (I) a heavy helical rod deforming under its own weight; and (II) the dynamics of axial rotation (twirling) in viscous fluid, which may be considered as a simple model for a bacteria flagellar filament. More broadly, our analysis provides a framework to develop reduced models of helical rods in a wide variety of physical and biological settings, and yields analytical insight into their elastic instabilities. In particular, our analysis indicates that tensile instabilities are a generic phenomenon when helical rods are subject to a combination of distributed forces and moments.

The ratio of branching fractions between $B^{0} \rightarrow J/ψπ^{0}$ and $B^{+} \rightarrow J/ψK^{*+}$ decays is measured with proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb$^{-1}$. The measured value is $\frac{\mathcal{B}_{B^{0} \rightarrow J/ψπ^{0}}}{\mathcal{B}_{B^{+} \rightarrow J/ψK^{*+}}} = (1.153 \pm 0.053 \pm 0.048 ) \times 10^{-2}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The branching fraction for $B^{0} \rightarrow J/ψπ^{0}$ decays is determined using the branching fraction of the normalisation channel, resulting in $\mathcal{B}_{B^{0} \rightarrow J/ψπ^{0}} = (1.670 \pm 0.077 \pm 0.069 \pm 0.095) \times 10^{-5}$, where the last uncertainty corresponds to that of the external input. This result is consistent with the current world average value and competitive with the most precise single measurement to date.

The sulfur dimer (S$_2$) is an important molecular constituent in cometary atmospheres and volcanic plumes on Jupiter's moon Io. It is also expected to play an important role in the photochemistry of exoplanets. The UV spectrum of S$_2$ contains transitions between vibronic levels above and below the dissociation limit, giving rise to a distinctive spectral signature. By using spectroscopic information from the literature, and the spectral simulation program PGOPHER, a UV line list of S$_2$ is provided. This line list includes the primary $B\,^{3}Σ^{-}_{u}-X\,^{3}Σ^{-}_{g}$ ($v'$=0-27, $v''$=0-10) electronic transition, where vibrational bands with $v'$$\geq$10 are predissociated. Intensities have been calculated from existing experimental and theoretical oscillator strengths, and semi-empirical strengths for the predissociated bands of S$_2$ have been derived from comparisons with experimental cross-sections. The S$_2$ line list also includes the $B''\,^{3}Π_{u}-X\,^{3}Σ^{-}_{g}$ ($v'$=0-19, $v''$=0-10) vibronic bands due to the strong interaction with the $B$ state. In summary, we present the new HITRAN-formatted S$_2$ line list and its validation against existing laboratory spectra. The extensive line list covers the spectral range 21700$-$41300~cm$^{-1}$ ($\sim$242$-$461~nm) and can be used for modeling both absorption and emission.

The conservation of hydrological resources involves continuously monitoring their contamination. A multi-agent system composed of autonomous surface vehicles is proposed in this paper to efficiently monitor the water quality. To achieve a safe control of the fleet, the fleet policy should be able to act based on measurements and to the the fleet state. It is proposed to use Local Gaussian Processes and Deep Reinforcement Learning to jointly obtain effective monitoring policies. Local Gaussian processes, unlike classical global Gaussian processes, can accurately model the information in a dissimilar spatial correlation which captures more accurately the water quality information. A Deep convolutional policy is proposed, that bases the decisions on the observation on the mean and variance of this model, by means of an information gain reward. Using a Double Deep Q-Learning algorithm, agents are trained to minimize the estimation error in a safe manner thanks to a Consensus-based heuristic. Simulation results indicate an improvement of up to 24% in terms of the mean absolute error with the proposed models. Also, training results with 1-3 agents indicate that our proposed approach returns 20% and 24% smaller average estimation errors for, respectively, monitoring water quality variables and monitoring algae blooms, as compared to state-of-the-art approaches

While extensive guidance exists for ensuring the reproducibility of one's own study, there is little discussion regarding the reproduction and replication of external studies within one's own research. To initiate this discussion, drawing lessons from our experience reproducing an operational product for predicting tropical cyclogenesis, we present a two-dimensional framework to offer guidance on reproduction and replication. Our framework, representing model fitting on one axis and its use in inference on the other, builds upon three key aspects: the dataset, the metrics, and the model itself. By assessing the trajectories of our studies on this 2D plane, we can better inform the claims made using our research. Additionally, we use this framework to contextualize the utility of benchmark datasets in the atmospheric sciences. Our two-dimensional framework provides a tool for researchers, especially early career researchers, to incorporate prior work in their own research and to inform the claims they can make in this context.

Observatories need to measure and evaluate the scientific output and overall impact of their facilities. An observatory bibliography consists of the papers published using that observatory's data, typically gathered by searching the major journals for relevant keywords. Recently, the volume of literature and methods by which the publications pool is evaluated has increased. Efficient and standardized procedures are necessary to assign meaningful metadata; enable user-friendly retrieval; and provide the opportunity to derive reports, statistics, and visualizations to impart a deeper understanding of the research output. In 2021, a group of observatory bibliographers from around the world convened online to continue the discussions presented in Lagerstrom (2015). We worked to extract general guidelines from our experiences, techniques, and lessons learnt. The paper explores the development, application, and current status of telescope bibliographies and future trends. This paper briefly describes the methodologies employed in constructing databases, along with the various bibliometric techniques used to analyze and interpret them. We explain reasons for non-standardization and why it is essential for each observatory to identify metadata and metrics that are meaningful for them; caution the (over-)use of comparisons among facilities that are, ultimately, not comparable through bibliometrics; and highlight the benefits of telescope bibliographies, both for researchers within the astronomical community and for stakeholders beyond the specific observatories. There is tremendous diversity in the ways bibliographers track publications and maintain databases, due to parameters such as resources, type of observatory, historical practices, and reporting requirements to funders and outside agencies. However, there are also common sets of Best Practices.

Context. The Galactic centre is hazardous for stellar clusters because of the strong tidal force. Supposedly, many clusters were destroyed and contributed stars to the crowded stellar field of the bulge and the nuclear stellar cluster. However, it is hard to develop a realistic model to predict the long-term evolution of the complex inner Galaxy, and observing surviving clusters in the central region would provide crucial insights into destruction processes. Aims. Among hitherto-known Galactic globular clusters, VVV CL002 is the closest to the centre, 0.4 kpc, but has a very high transverse velocity, 400 km s$^{-1}$. The nature of this cluster and its impact on Galactic astronomy need to be addressed with spectroscopic follow-up. Methods. Here we report the first measurements of its radial velocity and chemical abundance based on near-infrared high-resolution spectroscopy. Results. We found that this cluster has a counterrotating orbit constrained within 1.0\,kpc of the centre, as close as 0.2 kpc at the perigalacticon, confirming that the cluster is not a passerby from the halo but a genuine survivor enduring the harsh conditions of the Galactic mill's tidal forces. In addition, its metallicity and $α$ abundance ([$α$/Fe] $\simeq +0.4$ and [Fe/H]$=-0.54$) are similar to some globular clusters in the bulge. Recent studies suggest that stars with such $α$-enhanced stars were more common at 3 - 6 kpc from the centre around 10 Gyrs ago. Conclusions. We infer that VVV CL002 was formed outside but is currently falling down to the centre, exhibiting a real-time event that must have occurred to many clusters a long time ago.

The ratio of production cross-sections of $ψ(2S)$ over $J/ψ$ mesons as a function of charged-particle multiplicity in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV is measured with a data sample collected by the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 658 pb$^{-1}$. The ratio is measured for both prompt and non-prompt $ψ(2S)$ and $J/ψ$ mesons. When there is an overlap between the rapidity ranges over which multiplicity and charmonia production are measured, a multiplicity-dependent modification of the ratio is observed for prompt mesons. No significant multiplicity dependence is found when the ranges do not overlap. For non-prompt production, the $ψ(2S)-to-J/ψ$ production ratio is roughly independent of multiplicity irrespective of the rapidity range over which the multiplicity is measured.
The results are compared to predictions of the co-mover model and agree well except in the low multiplicity region. The ratio of production cross-sections of $ψ(2S)$ over $J/ψ$ mesons are cross-checked with other measurements in di-lepton channels and found to be compatible.

A study of $B_c^+ \rightarrow χ_c π^+$ decays is reported using proton-proton collision data, collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9fb$^{-1}$. The decay $B_c^+ \rightarrow χ_{c2} π^+$ is observed for the first time, with a significance exceeding seven standard deviations. The relative branching fraction with respect to the $B_c^+ \rightarrow J/ψπ^+$ decay is measured to be $$ \frac{\mathcal{B}_{B_c^+ \rightarrow χ_{c2} π^+}}
{\mathcal{B}_{B_c^+ \rightarrow J/ψπ^+}} =
0.37 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.02 \pm 0.01 , $$ where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the knowledge of the $χ_c \rightarrow J/ψγ$ branching fraction. No significant $B_c^+ \rightarrow χ_{c1} π^+$ signal is observed and an upper limit for the relative branching fraction for the $B_c^+ \rightarrow χ_{c1} π^+$ and $B_c^+ \rightarrow χ_{c2} π^+$ decays of $$ \frac{\mathcal{B}_{B_c^+ \rightarrow χ_{c1} π^+}}
{\mathcal{B}_{B_c^+ \rightarrow χ_{c2} π^+}} < 0.49 $$ is set at the 90\% confidence level.

The analysis uses proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb$^{-1}$. No evidence for an excess of signal events over background is observed and an upper limit is set on the branching fraction ratio ${\cal B}(B_c^+\toπ^+μ^+μ^-)/{\cal B}(B_c^+\to J/ψπ^+) < 2.1\times 10^{-4}$ at $90\%$ confidence level. Additionally, an updated measurement of the ratio of the $B_c^+\toψ(2S)π^+$ and $B_c^+\to J/ψπ^+$ branching fractions is reported. The ratio ${\cal B}(B_c^+\toψ(2S)π^+)/{\cal B}(B_c^+\to J/ψπ^+)$ is measured to be $0.254\pm 0.018 \pm 0.003 \pm 0.005$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third is due to the uncertainties on the branching fractions of the leptonic $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ decays. This measurement is the most precise to date and is consistent with previous LHCb results.

The projected separation of the system is a = 1236.73 au (~13.8"), and although along the line-of-sight towards the Scorpius-Centaurus (Sco-Cen) stellar association, VVV J1438-6158 AB is likely to be a field star, from a kinematic 6D probabilistic analysis. We estimated the physical, and dynamical parameters of both components via interpolations with theoretical models and evolutionary tracks, which allowed us to retrieve a mass of 0.62+/-0.18 MSun for the WD, and a mass of 98.5+/-6.2 MJup (~0.094+/-0.006 MSun) for the UCD. The radii of the two components were also estimated at 0.01309+/-0.0003 RSun and 1.22+/-0.05 RJup, respectively. VVV J1438-6158 AB stands out as a benchmark system for comprehending the evolution of WDs and low-mass companions given its status as one of the most widely separated WD+UCD systems known to date, which likely indicates that both components may have evolved independently of each other, and also being characterised by a large mass-ratio (q = 0.15+/-0.04), which likely indicates a formation pathway similar to that of stellar binary systems.

An amplitude analysis of the $B^{0}\to K^{*0}μ^+μ^-$ decay is presented using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $4.7$ fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collision data collected with the LHCb experiment. For the first time, the coefficients associated to short-distance physics effects, sensitive to processes beyond the Standard Model, are extracted directly from the data through a $q^2$-unbinned amplitude analysis, where $q^2$ is the $μ^+μ^-$ invariant mass squared. Long-distance contributions, which originate from non-factorisable QCD processes, are systematically investigated and the most accurate assessment to date of their impact on the physical observables is obtained. The pattern of measured corrections to the short-distance couplings is found to be consistent with previous analyses of $b$- to $s$-quark transitions, with the largest discrepancy from the Standard Model predictions found to be at the level of 1.8 standard deviations. The global significance of the observed differences in the decay is 1.4 standard deviations.

An amplitude analysis of the $B^0 \to K^{*0} μ^+μ^-$ decay is presented. The analysis is based on data collected by the LHCb experiment from proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7,\,8$ and $13$ TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $4.7$ fb$^{-1}$. For the first time, Wilson coefficients and non-local hadronic contributions are accessed directly from the unbinned data, where the latter are parameterised as a function of $q^2$ with a polynomial expansion. Wilson coefficients and non-local hadronic parameters are determined under two alternative hypotheses: the first relies on experimental information alone, while the second one includes information from theoretical predictions for the non-local contributions. Both models obtain similar results for the parameters of interest. The overall level of compatibility with the Standard Model is evaluated to be between 1.8 and 1.9 standard deviations when looking at the $\mathcal{C}_9$ Wilson coefficient alone, and between 1.3 and 1.4 standard deviations when considering the full set of $\mathcal{C}_9, \, \mathcal{C}_{10}, \, \mathcal{C}_9^\prime$ and $\mathcal{C}_{10}^\prime$ Wilson coefficients. The ranges reflect the theoretical assumptions made in the analysis.

Simulations of quantum chemistry and quantum materials are believed to be among the most important potential applications of quantum information processors, but realizing practical quantum advantage for such problems is challenging. Here, we introduce a simulation framework for strongly correlated quantum systems that can be represented by model spin Hamiltonians. Our approach leverages reconfigurable qubit architectures to programmably simulate real-time dynamics and introduces an algorithm for extracting chemically relevant spectral properties via classical co-processing of quantum measurement results. We develop a digital-analog simulation toolbox for efficient Hamiltonian time evolution utilizing digital Floquet engineering and hardware-optimized multi-qubit operations to accurately realize complex spin-spin interactions, and as an example present an implementation proposal based on Rydberg atom arrays. Then, we show how detailed spectral information can be extracted from these dynamics through snapshot measurements and single-ancilla control, enabling the evaluation of excitation energies and finite-temperature susceptibilities from a single-dataset. To illustrate the approach, we show how this method can be used to compute key properties of a polynuclear transition-metal catalyst and 2D magnetic materials.
