We present the conceptual design of the modular detector and readout system for the Cosmic Microwave Background Stage 4 (CMB-S4) ground-based survey experiment. CMB-S4 will map the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and the millimeter-wave sky to unprecedented sensitivity, using 500,000 superconducting detectors observing from Chile and Antarctica to map over 60 percent of the sky. The fundamental building block of the detector and readout system is a detector module package operated at 100 mK, which is connected to a readout and amplification chain that carries signals out to room temperature. It uses arrays of feedhorn-coupled orthomode transducers (OMT) that collect optical power from the sky onto dc-voltage-biased transition-edge sensor (TES) bolometers. The resulting current signal in the TESs is then amplified by a two-stage cryogenic Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) system with a time-division multiplexer to reduce wire count, and matching room-temperature electronics to condition and transmit signals to the data acquisition system. Sensitivity and systematics requirements are being developed for the detector and readout system over a wide range of observing bands (20 to 300 GHz) and optical powers to accomplish CMB-S4's science goals. While the design incorporates the successes of previous generations of CMB instruments, CMB-S4 requires an order of magnitude more detectors than any prior experiment. This requires fabrication of complex superconducting circuits on over 10 square meters of silicon, as well as significant amounts of precision wiring, assembly and cryogenic testing.

Abstract:
Analytic expressions are derived for the Wiener filter (WF), also known as the linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) estimator, for an intensity-modulation/direct-detection (IM/DD) short-haul fiber-optic communication system. The link is purely dispersive and the nonlinear square-law detector (SLD) operates at the thermal noise limit. The achievable rates of geometrically shaped PAM constellati…

The link is purely dispersive and the nonlinear square-law detector (SLD) operates at the thermal noise limit. The achievable rates of geometrically shaped PAM constellations are substantially increased by taking the SLD into account as compared to a WF that ignores the SLD.

We prove central limit theorems (CLT) for empirical processes of extreme values cluster functionals as in Drees and Rootzén (2010). We use coupling properties enlightened for Dedecker \& Prieur's $τ-$dependence coefficients in order to improve the conditions of dependence and continue to obtain these CLT. The assumptions are precisely set for particular processes and cluster functionals of interest. The number of excesses provides a complete example of a cluster functional for a simple non-mixing model (AR(1)-process) for which ours results are definitely needed. We also give the expression explicit the covariance structure of limit Gaussian process.
Also we include in this paper some results of Drees (2011) for the extremal index and some simulations for this index to demonstrate the accuracy of this technique.

Dependent Lindeberg CLT - Finite Dimensional for Empirical Processes of Cluster Functionals
Authors:

Abstract:
Drees and Rootzén [2010] have proven central limit theorems (CLT) for empirical processes of extreme values cluster functionals built from $β$-mixing processes. The problem with this family of $β$-mixing processes is that it is quite restrictive, as has been shown by Andrews [1984]. We expand this result to a more general dependent processes family, known as weakly dependent processes in the sense…

The problem with this family of $β$-mixing processes is that it is quite restrictive, as has been shown by Andrews [1984]. We expand this result to a more general dependent processes family, known as weakly dependent processes in the sense of Doukhan and Louhichi [1999], but in finite-dimensional convergence (fidis). We show an example where the application of the CLT-fidis is sufficient in several cases, including a small simulation of the extremogram introduced by Davis and Mikosch [2009] to confirm the efficacy of our result.

High degrees of intensity correlation between two independent lasers were observed after propagation through a rubidium vapor cell in which they generate Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT). As the optical field intensities are increased, the correlation changes sign (becoming anti-correlation). The experiment was performed in a room temperature rubidium cell, using two diode lasers tuned to the $^{85}$Rb $D_2$ line ($λ= 780$nm). The cross-correlation spectral function for the pump and probe fields is numerically obtained by modeling the temporal dynamics of both field phases as diffusing processes. We explored the dependence of the atomic response on the atom-field Rabi frequencies, optical detuning and Doppler width. The results show that resonant phase-noise to amplitude-noise conversion is at the origin of the observed signal and the change in sign for the correlation coefficient can be explained as a consequence of the competition between EIT and Raman resonance processes.

We show the propagation of entangled states of high-dimensional quantum systems. The qudits states were generated using the transverse correlation of the twin photons produced by spontaneous parametric down-conversion. Their free-space distribution was performed at the laboratory scale and the propagated states maintained a high-fidelity with their original form. The use of entangled qudits allow an increase in the quantity of information that can be transmitted and may also guarantee more privacy for communicating parties. Therefore, studies about propagating entangled states of qudits are important for the effort of building quantum communication networks.

Apertures with D-slits in the arms of the twin fotons define the qudit space. By manipulating the pump beam correctly the twin photons will pass only by symmetrically opposite slits, generating entangled states between these differents paths. Experimental results for qudits with D=4 and D=8 are shown. We demonstrate that the generated states are entangled states.
