In this paper we consider trajectory tracking problem for robotic systems affected by unknown external perturbations. Considering possible solutions, we restrict our attention to composite adaptation, which, particularly, ensures parametric error convergence being desirable to enhance overall stability and robustness of a closed-loop system. At the same time, existing composite approaches cannot simultaneously relax stringent persistence of excitation requirement and guarantee convergence of parametric error to zero for a perturbed scenario. So, a new composite adaptation scheme is proposed, which successfully overcomes mentioned problems of known counterparts and has several salient features. First, it includes a novel adaptive disturbance rejection control law for a general n-DoF dynamical model in the Euler-Lagrange form, which, without achievement of the parameter estimation goal, ensures global stability via application of a high-gain external torque observer augmented with some adaptation law. Secondly, such law is extended with a composite summand derived via the recently proposed Instrumental Variables based Dynamic Regressor Extension and Mixing procedure, which relaxes excitation conditions and ensures asymptotic parameter estimation and reference tracking in the presence of external torque under some non-restrictive assumptions. An illustrative example shows the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed approach in comparison with existing solutions.

In the adaptive control theory, the dynamic regressor extension and mixing (DREM) procedure has become widespread as it allows one to describe a variety of adaptive control problems in unified terms of the parameter estimation problem of a regression equation with a scalar regressor. However, when the system/parameterization is affected by perturbations, the estimation laws, which are designed on the basis of such equation, asymptotically provides only biased estimates. In this paper, based on the bias-eliminated least-squares (BELS) approach, a modification of the DREM procedure is proposed that allows one to annihilate perturbations asymptotically and, consequently, asymptotically obtain unbiased estimates. The theoretical results are supported with mathematical modelling and can be used to design adaptive observers and control systems.

Existing online continuous-time parameter estimation laws provide exact (asymptotic/exponential or finite/fixed time) identification of dynamical linear/nonlinear systems parameters only if the external perturbations are equaled to zero or independent with the regressor of the system. However, in real systems the disturbances are almost always non-vanishing and dependent with the regressor. In the presence of perturbations with such properties the above-mentioned identification approaches ensure only boundedness of a parameter estimation error. The main goal of this study is to close this gap and develop a novel online continuous-time parameter estimator, which guarantees exact asymptotic identification of unknown parameters of linear systems in the presence of unknown but bounded perturbations and has relaxed convergence conditions. To achieve the aforementioned goal, it is proposed to augment the deeply investigated Dynamic Regressor Extension and Mixing (DREM) procedure with the novel Instrumental Variables (IV) based extension scheme with averaging. Such an approach allows one to obtain a set of scalar regression equations with asymptotically vanishing perturbation if the initial disturbance that affects the plant is bounded and independent not with the system regressor, but with the instrumental variable. It is rigorously proved that a gradient estimation law designed on the basis of such scalar regressions ensures online unbiased asymptotic identification of the parameters of the perturbed linear systems if some weak independence and excitation assumptions are met. Theoretical results are illustrated and supported with adequate numerical simulations.

The paper presents an advanced version of an adaptive market-making agent capable of performing experiential learning, exploiting a "try and fail" approach relying on a swarm of subordinate agents executed in a virtual environment to determine optimal strategies. The problem is treated as a "Narrow AGI" problem with the scope of goals and environments bound to financial markets, specifically crypto-markets. Such an agent is called an "adaptive multi-strategy agent" as it executes multiple strategies virtually and selects only a few for real execution. The presented version of the agent is extended to solve portfolio optimization and re-balancing across multiple assets so the problem of active portfolio management is being addressed. Also, an attempt is made to apply an experiential learning approach executed in the virtual environment of multi-agent simulation and backtesting based on historical market data, so the agent can learn map**s between specific market conditions and optimal strategies corresponding to these conditions. Additionally, the agent is equipped with the capacity to predict price movements based on social media data, which increases its financial performance.

The estimation law of unknown parameters vector $θ$ is proposed for one class of nonlinearly parametrized regression equations $y\left( t \right) = Ω\left( t \right)Θ\left( θ\right)$. We restrict our attention to parametrizations that are widely obtained in practical scenarios when polynomials in $θ$ are used to form $Θ\left( θ\right)$. For them we introduce a new 'linearizability' assumption that a map** from overparametrized vector of parameters $Θ\left( θ\right)$ to original one $θ$ exists in terms of standard algebraic functions. Under such assumption and weak requirement of the regressor finite excitation, on the basis of dynamic regressor extension and mixing technique we propose a procedure to reduce the nonlinear regression equation to the linear parameterization without application of singularity causing operations and the need to identify the overparametrized parameters vector. As a result, an estimation law with exponential convergence rate is derived, which, unlike known solutions, (i) does not require a strict P-monotonicity condition to be met and a priori information about $θ$ to be known, (ii) ensures elementwise monotonicity for the parameter error vector. The effectiveness of our approach is illustrated with both academic example and 2-DOF robot manipulator control problem.

Unlike existing adaptive solutions, the system state-space matrices A, B are not restricted to be represented in the observer canonical form to implement the observer. The original system description is used instead, and, consequently, the original state vector is obtained. The class of systems for which the method is applicable is identified via three assumptions related to: (i) the boundedness of a control signal and all system trajectories, (ii) the identifiability of the physical parameters of A and B from the numerator and denominator polynomials of a system input/output transfer function and (iii) the complete observability of system states. A novel method of exponentially stable adaptive control to compensate for matched parametric uncertainty under a mild condition of semi-persistent excitation (s-PE) of a regressor with piecewise-constant rank and nullspace is proposed. It is based on the generalized dynamic regressor extension and mixing procedure developed earlier by the authors, does not require high adaptive gain or data stacks and ensures: 1) exponential convergence of the tracking error to zero and the parameter one to a bounded set when the regressor is s-PE, 2) adjustable parameters transients of first-order type (each scalar parameter is adjusted using a separate first-order scalar differential equation), 3) alertness to change of the uncertainty parameters values, and 4) boundedness of all signals when the regressor is not s-PE. The main salient feature of the proposed approach is that the exponential stability is guaranteed when the controller parameters estimates converge to the values that are indistinguishable from the true ones. The results of numerical experiments fully support the theoretical analysis and demonstrate the advantages of the proposed method.

Such an approach is based on the direct self-tuning regulators design framework and the exponentially stable adaptive control technique developed earlier by the authors. Unlike the known solutions, a procedure is proposed to obtain a non-overparametrized regression equation (RE) with respect to the unknown controller parameters from an initial RE of the LQ-based reference tracking control system. Crypto-currency market uncertainty drives the need to find adaptive solutions to maximise gain or at least to avoid loss throughout the periods of trading activity. Given the high dimensionality and complexity of the state-action space in this domain, it can be treated as a "Narrow AGI" problem with the scope of goals and environments bound to financial markets. Adaptive Multi-Strategy Agent approach for market-making introduces a new solution to maximise positive "alpha" in long-term handling limit order book (LOB) positions by using multiple sub-agents implementing different strategies with a dynamic selection of these agents based on changing market conditions. AMSA provides no specific strategy of its own while being responsible for segmenting the periods of market-making activity into smaller execution sub-periods, performing internal backtesting on historical data on each of the sub-periods, doing sub- agent performance evaluation and re-selection of them at the end of each sub- period, and collecting returns and losses incrementally. With this approach, the return becomes a function of hyper-parameters such as market data granularity (refresh rate), the execution sub-period duration, number of active sub-agents, and their individual strategies. Sub-agent selection for the next trading sub-period is made based on return/loss and alpha values obtained during internal backtesting as well as real trading. Experiments with the AMSA have been performed under different market conditions relying on historical data and proved a high probability of positive alpha throughout the periods of trading activity in the case of properly selected hyper-parameters.

Compared to the known methods, to make the computational burden lower, only one model to identify all switching states of the regression is used in the developed procedure with the following two-fold contribution. First of all, we propose a new truly online estimation algorithm based on a well-known DREM approach to detect switching time and preserve time alertness with adjustable detection delay. Secondly, despite the fact that a switching signal function is unknown, the adaptive law is derived that provides global exponential convergence of the regression parameters to their true values in case the regressor is finitely exciting somewhere inside the time interval between two consecutive parameters switches. The robustness of the proposed identification procedure to the influence of external disturbances is analytically proved. In such case, a new law to adjust the controller parameters, which ensures the exponential stability of the classical dynamic model of the tracking error under the condition that its states are not included in such a law, is proposed in this study. The scope of this research is a problem of the direct model reference adaptive control of linear time-invariant multi-input multi-output (MIMO) plants without any a priori knowledge about system matrices. To handle it, a new method is proposed, which includes three main stages. Firstly, using the well-known DREM procedure, the plant parametrization is made to obtain the linear regressions, in which the plant matrices and state initial conditions are the unknown parameters. Secondly, such regressions are substituted into the known equations for the controller parameters calculation. Thirdly, the controller parameters are identified using the novel adjustment law with exponential rate of convergence. To the best of the authors knowledge, such a method is the first one to provide the following features simultaneously: 1) it is applicable for the generic completely unknown MIMO systems (e.g. without any information about state or control allocation matrices, the sign of the latter, etc.); 2) it guarantees the exponential convergence of both the parameter and tracking errors under the mild requirement of the regressor finite excitation; 3) it ensures monotonicity of the transient curves of the control law parameters matrices. The results of the conducted experiments with the model of a rubber and ailerons control of a small passenger aircraft corroborate all the theoretical results.

We consider a class of systems with time-varying parameters, which are written as linear regressions with bounded disturbances. The task is to estimate such parameters under the condition that the regressor is finitely exciting (FE). Considering such a problem statement, a new robust method is proposed to identify the time-varying parameters with bounded error, which could be reduced to the limit by the adjustment of such method parameters. For this purpose, the function of the system unknown parameters, which depends on time, is expanded into a Taylor series in order to turn the considered problem into the identification of the regression with piecewise-constant parameters. This results in the increase of the dimensionality of the problem to be solved. Then, the I-DREM procedure with exponential forgetting, resetting, and normalization of the regressor, which has been proposed earlier by the authors, is applied to the obtained regression. This allows one, in contrast to the known solutions, to get the dimensionality of the problem back to the initial one and provide the required exponential convergence of the parameter error to a bounded set with adjustable bound under the condition that the regressor is FE. In addition, this method guarantees that the parameter error is bounded beyond the regressor excitation interval. The above properties are proved analytically and shown via numerical simulations.

A problem of identification of piecewise-constant unknown parameters of a linear regression equation (LRE) is considered. Such parameters change their values over the interval of the regressor finite (rather than persistent) excitation. To solve it, the previously proposed I-DREM procedure and the integral-based filtering method with the exponential forgetting and resetting are improved: the integral of the filter equations is taken over the finite time intervals, which belong to the finite excitation time range. This allows one to obtain an exponentially bounded identification error over the excitation interval, and, when the LRE parameters are constant outside such interval, to provide exponential convergence of the identification error to zero. In addition, the applied method of the regressor excitation normalization makes it possible to obtain the same rate of convergence of the parameter error for the regressors of various amplitudes. The stability and all the above-mentioned properties are proved for the derived identification method. The results of numerical experiments (including the case of the noise-contaminated regressor and output measurements) fully support the obtained theoretical results.

The method of excitation normalization of the regressor, which is used in the estimation loop to solve the plant identification problem, is proposed. It is based on the dynamic regressor extension and mixing procedure. Its application allows to obtain the same upper bound of the parameter identification error for the scalar regressors with different excitation level, using a constant value of the adaptation rate for all of them. This fact is a significant advantage from the practical point of view. Comparison of the developed method with the known one of the regressor amplitude normalization is conducted. It is shown that the classical approach does not have the above-stated property. To validate the theoretical conclusions made, the results of the comparative mathematical modeling of three loops are presented: 1) the classical gradient one, 2) the one with the normalization of the regressor amplitude, 3) the proposed one with the normalization of the regressor excitation.

The known dynamic regressor extension and mixing method (DREM) is combined with the proposed filter of a new type, which uses the integration operation with forgetting, and the recursive least-squares method to develop the new I-DREM model reference adaptive control (MRAC) system. It does not require a priori knowledge of the sign or the elements values of the control input matrix of the plant. It also provides the exponential convergence of the adaptation process (with the automatically adjustable adaptation rate) without the regressor persistent excitation. Such control system allows to solve three actual problems of the adaptive control: 1) to provide the exponential convergence of the controller parameter error under the condition of the regressor initial excitation, 2) to make such convergence monotonic, 3) to calculate the adaptation rate online according to the current regressor value. Some numerical experiments are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper proposes a new method to provide the exponential convergence of both the parameter and tracking errors of the composite adaptive control system without the persistent excitation (PE) requirement. Instead, the derived composite adaptive law ensures the above-mentioned properties under the strictly weaker finite excitation (FE) condition. Unlike known solutions, in addition to the PE requirement relaxation, it provides better transient response under jump change of the plant uncertainty parameters. To derive such an adaptive law, a novel scheme of uncertainty filtration with resetting is proposed, which provides the required properties of the control system. A rigorous proof of all mentioned properties of the developed adaptive law is presented. Such law is compared with the known composite ones, which also relax the PE requirement, using the wing-rock problem to conduct numerical experiments. The obtained results fully support the theoretical analysis and demonstrate the advantages of the proposed method.

The scope of this research is a problem of parameters identification of a linear time-invariant (LTI) plant, which 1) input signal is not frequency-rich, 2) is subjected to initial conditions and external disturbances. The memory regressor extension (MRE) scheme, in which a specially derived differential equation is used as a filter, is applied to solve the above-stated problem. Such a filter allows us to obtain a limited regressor value, for which a condition of the initial excitation (IE) is met. Using the MRE scheme, the recursive least-squares (RLS) method with the forgetting factor is used to derive an adaptation law. The following properties have been proved for the proposed approach. If the IE condition is met, then: 1) the parameter error of identification is a limited value and converges to zero exponentially (if there are no external disturbances) or to a bounded set (in the case of them) with an adjustable rate, 2) the parameters adaptation rate is a finite value. The above-mentioned properties are mathematically proved and demonstrated via simulation experiments.

Abstract:
Performing a fully non-perturbative analysis using the tools of numerical general relativity, we demonstrate that a period of slow contraction is a `supersmoothing' cosmological phase that homogenizes, isotropizes and flattens the universe both classically and quantum mechanically and can do so far more robustly and rapidly than had been realized in earlier studies.

The paper contains the description of the dynamics of non-equilibrium processes of spin $s=1$ magnets in an external variable field. We have obtained nonlinear dynamic equations with sources and calculated low-frequency asymptotics of two-time Green's functions for ferro- and quadrupole magnetic states with $SO(3)$ and $SU(3)$ exchange symmetry of the Hamiltonian. It has been shown that for ferro- and quadrupole magnetic states singularities of Green's functions in wave vectors $1/k$, $1/k^2$ and frequencies $1/ω, 1/ω^2$ have well-known character. We set the exact form of the magnetic anisotropy of these Green's functions. For states with $SO(3)$ symmetry of the exchange Hamiltonian, we have found Green's functions with quadrupole degrees of freedom and compared them with Green's functions of magnets having exchange $SU(3)$ symmetry.

When captured by a flat nematic-isotropic interface, colloidal particles can be dragged by it. As a result spatially periodic structures may appear, with the period depending on a particle mass, size, and interface velocity~\cite{west.jl:2002}. If liquid crystal is sandwiched between two substrates, the interface takes a wedge-like shape, accommodating the interface-substrate contact angle and minimizing the director distortions on its nematic side. Correspondingly, particles move along complex trajectories: they are first captured by the interface and then `glide' towards its vertex point. Our experiments quantify this scenario, and numerical minimization of the Landau-de Gennes free energy allow for a qualitative description of the interfacial structure and the drag force.

We investigated the physical properties of low concentration ferroelectric nematic colloids, using calorimetry, optical methods, infra-red spectroscopy and capacitance studies. The resulting colloids normally remain homogeneous, but the nematic orientational coupling is significantly amplified. In particular cases, the nematic orientation coupling increases by 10% for particle concentrations of 0.2%. A manifestation of the increased orientational order is that the clearing temperature of a nematic colloid increases up to 40 Celsius degrees compared to the pure LC host. A theoretical model is proposed in which the ferroelectric particles induce local dipoles whose effective interaction is proportional to the square of the orientational order parameter.
